Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is finally coming to a living room near you!

Following  the theatrical release of the concert film  in October 2023, the Eras Tour film was released on Disney+ on March 14, featuring even more bonus footage from the hit show.

Through the successful world tour , which officially kicked off in March 2023 , Swift takes fans on a musical journey, spanning 10 albums and three hours of music.

With flashy costumes and intricate sets, Swift creates a true spectacle as she performs some of her biggest hits from her illustrious career. Plus, she always has a few surprises up her sleeve, whether it be special guests or announcements about her upcoming albums .

As you relive the Eras Tour with the recent concert film, take a look back at some of the best moments from the show ahead.

It's a Cruel Summer with You

Following a dramatic interlude that references Taylor Swift's first 10 albums, the singer emerges from under the stage to perform her Lover song "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince." She then segues into her hit track " Cruel Summer ," which leads the audience to erupt in applause.

She's 'The Man'

Swift then addresses the lively crowd, joking that they're making her feel so powerful as she shows off and kisses her biceps. As she slips on a blazer, she transitions into her next song by letting the crowd know that they're making her feel like " The Man ."

This Is Our Place, We Make the Rules

During the show, Swift brings the Lover House to life as she performs the titular song from her seventh studio album with her full band and backup singers.

Swift ends her Lover set by singing her ballad "The Archer," transforming the stage into a starry spectacle.

It's Fearless

Swift then goes back to her Fearless days as she dons her best gold dress on stage. At one point during the set, she throws up a heart for the audience before doing her signature twirl with her studded guitar.

Standing Ovation

One of the highlights of Swift's Evermore era has to be her performance of "Champagne Problems" at her moss-covered piano, which always earns a huge standing ovation from the crowd — with one of her longest being eight minutes during her Los Angeles show.

Tribute to Majorie

During her Evermore set, Swift brings the audience to tears as she performs "Marjorie" penned about her late grandmother Marjorie Finlay , who was an opera singer. For the special performance, Swifties pay tribute to Marjorie by turning on their camera flashlights, creating a beautiful array of lights across the stadium.

Fun Times with Haim

Jeff Kravitz/TAS23/Getty

For select dates when Haim served as her opening act , Swift brought out the sibling trio to perform "No Body, No Crime" from her Evermore album. While performing in Santa Clara, California (above), Haim even donned their outfits from the " Bejeweled " music video, in which they played Swift's evil stepsisters.

Entering Her Reputation Era

Don Arnold/TAS24/Getty

Nothing quite tops the introduction to Swift's Reputation era as images of snakes and Swift's clanking heels appear on the screen before her hit song "Ready For It?" blares through the speakers. Of course, the transition from "Don't Blame Me" to "Look What You Made Me Do" is a true highlight of the show.

The Old Taylor Can't Come to a Phone Right Now

Paying homage to the " Look What You Made Me Do " music video, Swift's backup dancers dress up as "old Taylors" as she performs the hit song on stage. It's a true "eras" moment to see Swift (in all her snake queen glory) with her old selves on one stage.

1, 2, 3, Let's Go!

From clapping during "You Belong with Me" to singing Kendrick Lamar's verse in "Bad Blood," fans have created many interactive chants for the Eras Tour. However, none of them quite top the "1, 2, 3, let's go b----" chant before "Delicate," which even Swift participates in during each show.

Her Princess Moment

Though the Eras Tour's Speak Now set is short, it's definitely sweet as Swift has her princess moment in a gorgeous gown for "Enchanted."

Long Live the Memories We Made

During a few special performances, Swift extended her Speak Now set by singing her hit " Long Live " with her band.

A Perfect Night to Dress Up Like Hipsters

For her Red set, Swift dresses up like a hipster for her performance of "22." In a heartwarming moment, she ends the song by giving her hat to a special fan in the audience.

We Remember It 'All Too Well'

Swift perfectly sets the scene as she sings the 10-minute version of her song "All Too Well" on stage. As she reminisces about fall and winter, the seasons come to life with leaf and snow confetti.

Trouble, Trouble

Swift doesn't hold back with the special effects as she sings her hit "I Knew You Were Trouble" and bursts of smoke appear around her on stage.

Duets with Phoebe Bridgers

During a few select performances, Swift was joined by her opening act Phoebe Bridgers to perform their song "Nothing New" from Red (Taylor's Version) .

The Folklore Cabin

Buda Mendes/TAS23/Getty

Following her Red set, Swift transitions to her Folklore era where she brings the woodsy cabin to life on stage and soulfully sings tracks such as "Cardigan" and "The Last Great American Dynasty."

Lost in the Memory

At one point during her Folklore set, Swift puts her cape dress to good use as she twirls around on stage, getting up close with the audience.

The Rain Came Pouring Down

During her concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts (above), Swift found a way to "shake off" the rain as she danced the night away in her green two-piece.

Burning It Down

Hours after bringing the Lover House to life, Swift burns it to the ground as she performs her hit "Bad Blood" during her 1989 set. During her show at Arrowhead Stadium (above), Swift perfectly matched the fire hue with her orange outfit and boots.

And the Surprise Song Is . . .

Swift's acoustic set has become one of the most anticipated moments of the Eras Tour as Swifties (in the stadium and watching at home) eagerly wait to hear which songs the singer will perform at the show. Surprise songs have ranged from early hits like "Tim McGraw" to a recent introduction of mashups like "New Year's Day/Peace."

Sweet Moments with Sabrina Carpenter

During one special show in Sydney, Australia (above), Swift was joined by her opening act Sabrina Carpenter who joined her in a special performance of "White Horse" at the flower-covered piano.

Speak Now (Taylor's Version)

Swift has also used her acoustic set as an opportunity to make some very special announcements, starting with the announcement of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) during her Nashville show on May 5, 2023 (above).

Friendly Reunions

John Shearer/TAS23/Gett

Months later as Swift debuted the music video for " I Can See You " from Speak Now (Taylor's Version) , she enlisted some surprise guests . The singer was joined on stage by Presley Cash, Joey King and her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner , who all played pivotal roles in her Speak Now era.

1989 (Taylor's Version)

Kevin Winter/TAS23/Getty

As Swift performed one of her final shows for the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour on Aug. 9, 2023 (above), she shocked the crowd by announcing 1989 (Taylor's Version) on stage. For the special moment, she debuted several new blue concert looks in honor of the album.

Special Guest Ice Spice

Kevin Mazur/TAS23/Getty

Swift turned MetLife Stadium into a party in May 2023 as she was joined by Ice Spice (above) for a special performance of " Karma ."

Making the Whole Place Shimmer

Swift proves that a diamond's gotta shine as she performs "Bejeweled" on the stage, complete with delightful choreography from her backup dancers.

Dressing for Revenge

Swift's sultry performance of "Vigilante S---" is another highly talked about moment from the show (and has quickly gone viral on social media as many try to replicate her intricate chair choreography).

Confetti Falls to the Ground

It wouldn't be a Taylor Swift show without confetti! As Swift closes the tour with "Karma," the stage is covered with rainbow confetti representing Swift's first 10 albums.

A Look Inside Taylor Swift's Magical Eras Tour

The Eras Tour is unique in that most artists don’t have a span of 10 albums that range from country to pop to indie, with each one's era defined so specifically and differently aesthetically . The set list is fixed except for two surprise songs that she performs after her 1989 set. She plays through each era (album) one by one in the following order: Lover, Fearless, Evermore, Reputation, Speak Now, Red, Folklore, 1989, and Midnights . She doesn't include a fixed song from her debut album, Taylor Swift , but she has included songs from it such as “Tim McGraw” during the surprise songs set.

At 33, Swift has made the Eras tour her victory lap, no matter where her career goes next. Playing at a cool three hours and 15 minutes , the concert boasts a 44-song set, including two surprise songs and no breaks for Swift. It’s easy to see why getting a ticket to one of her shows is a hot commodity. Here, a look at some of the most magical moments photographed on her tour so far.

Meet me at midnight.

Swift sparkled during her Midnights set in Tampa, Florida and so did the album on the charts. Released in October 2022, it was her most successful first week sales ever at a staggering 1.578 million albums sold .

Country girl at heart.

Although her style has veered towards pop in recent years, you can’t take a guitar away from a country girl. Each night of her show, seen here in Tampa, Florida, Swift performs a surprise song on the guitar and another on the piano.

Aaron Dessner of the band The National was a driving force in the birth of Swift’s Folklore and Evermore eras. In the height of COVID-19 after being forced to cancel her Lover Fest Tour , she went back to basics with just a guitar and got lost in the woods to make an album that went on to win Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2021. The two performed together in Tampa, Florida.

In her reputation era.

Swift took us to church in Tampa, Florida with her song “Don’t Blame Me” from her album Reputation . It wasn’t a mainstream single but is a fan favorite.

We're enchanted to meet you.

Throughout the night seen in Tampa, Florida, Swift performed classics that molded her career. Watching her in a sparkling dress alone on the stage singing “Enchanted” during the Speak Now segment is simply magical.

When the world was in lockdown, Swift got lost in new territory and didn’t want to be found. With simple guitar strings and her light demeanor, she created some of the best songs in her catalog on Evermore . Swift performed favorites from the album in Tampa, Florida.

An ode to grandma.

Fans were surprised and thrilled that she performed “Marjorie” off of her album Evermore . Seen in Tampa, Florida, Swift wrote the deeply personal song about her grandma Marjorie, who was an opera singer. Swift found an old record of Marjorie singing and if you listen closely at the end of the track, you can hear them singing together.

Swift opened the three-hour set with her Lover era seen in Tampa, Florida. Swift is performing four new albums live for the first time during this tour: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , and Midnights . Taylor Swift Kicks Off Her Eras Tour in Fully Bejeweled Fashion

Taylor Swift Kicks Off Her Eras Tour in Fully Bejeweled Fashion

Taylor Swift kicked off her much-anticipated The Eras Tour on Friday night in Glendale, Arizona (renamed “Swift City” on Friday and Saturday for the occasion). You’ll recall that the singer broke records with the tour, selling 2.4 million tickets in a single day, so it’s safe to say that Swifties were eager to see what the singer had in store. Over the course of her three-hour-long set list—which included 44 songs—the star certainly didn’t disappoint with outfits. She sported custom designs from labels such as Versace, Roberto Cavalli, and Oscar de la Renta. Her performance attire paid homage to all of her past eras—from rocking “Bejeweled”-worthy bodysuits, to edgy snake looks that nodded to her  Reputation  days.

Diehard fans of Swift could easily catch how her new costumes nod to her past. Styled by Joseph Cassell Falconer, they served as modern updates to signature Swift looks. Her gold, fringed mini dress by Roberto Cavalli, for instance, referenced a similar Cavalli dress that Swift wore during her  Fearless  tour back in 2011. “We chose a beautiful champagne color, which is very Taylor,” Roberto Cavalli designer Fausto Puglisi tells  Vogue . The designer also created the embroidered Rhombus top and mini skirt for her  1989  set, as well as the embroidered snake catsuit Swift wears to perform songs from her album Reputation. “It’s more of a badass, rock and roll look,” says Puglisi.

Swift famously adopted the slithery imagery during her  Reputation era, when her haters flooded her social media with snake emojis. She reclaimed the term and symbol as a power move. “I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name-calling to bully you on social media, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to beat you,” Swift said on stage during her opening night. (Fans have even been creating  their own snake looks to wear to the show.)

Each outfit was aligned with the message and vibe of the era Swift referenced, showcasing the different audio and visual aesthetics she’s embraced over her nearly two-decade-long career. Swift opened with her songs from the  Lover  album, and channeled the album’s visual pastel vibes with a glitzy Versace bodysuit. (All of the looks were also complete with shimmery Christian Louboutin boots.) While performing  Midnight’s “Lavender Haze,” she chose a faux fur lavender coat by Oscar de la Renta, complete with a beaded bodysuit. During her more ethereal  Folklore  section, Swift leaned on gauzy prairie gowns by Alberta Ferretti and Etro.

In Alberta Ferretti

In Alberta Ferretti

The most dramatic, of course, was the full-on princess gowns by Nicole + Felicia that Swift wears to perform “Enchanted” in—an enchanted design indeed. With each look more dazzling the next, there was an intentional choice from Swift to use her stage fashion to speak to the music she performs. The same sentiment came from the designers themselves, most of whom did custom creations. “I always want to create couture for the music,” says Puglisi. “We took an artisanal approach to craftsmanship—when you create for a concert in a stadium with so many people, everything must be eye-catching.” In other words, best believe she’s still bejeweled.

Taylor Swift kicked off her Eras Tour in Glendale, Ariz. last night, delivering a 44-song set that lasted more than three hours. Somehow, the only time Swift paused throughout the night was to make a quick outfit change, disappearing into thin air only to return in a brand-new (and often bejeweled) look.

Instead of journeying through her 10 albums chronologically, Swift opted to mix up her musical eras, starting with 2019’s “Lover” before transitioning into 2020’s “Evermore.” “Reputation” was up next, followed by a short stint in “Speak Now,” during which she only performed “Enchanted.” Songs from “Red,” “Folklore” and “1989” came after, and then Swift performed a short acoustic set consisting of “Mirrorball” and “Tim McGraw” from her first, self-titled album — a tradition she said she’ll change up for every show, without repeating a song. Swift ended the night with her most recent release, “Midnights,” bringing fans back to the present.

Each era was accompanied by jaw-dropping sets, stunning choreography and, of course, custom outfits to represent each specific moment in Swift’s life and career. See all of the looks from the first night of the Eras Tour below.

The Eras Tour: The Intricate World-Building Behind Taylor Swift’s Most Ambitious Sets Ever

By Katherine McLaughlin

Taylor Swift performs onstage during Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

There’s a joke circling the internet following the opening weekend of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour: look at any random collection of photos taken throughout the night—some even snapped mere minutes apart—and you’d never know they all came from the same show. What starts in a hazy pink, cotton candy dreamscape ends in a sultry, sparkling twilight—with plenty of undulating stops in the middle, from ethereal fairytale woods to the energetic skyscrapers of the concrete jungle. “[The stage] changed for almost every song, which is crazy to think about considering most artists have the same stage for their entire set list,” Maya Minocha, a fan who was at the opening weekend in Glendale, Arizona, tells  AD.

Following the COVID-19-induced cancellation of Swift’s sixth headline tour, Lover Fest, in 2020, The Eras Tour is her triumphant return to live music. Three new albums and two rerecorded records later, the three-hour 44-song show recaps every era of her 17-year career in her most ambitious performance to date. “The sets absolutely made this possible,” Ginnie Low, who also attended the shows and runs the TikTok account The Thrifty Swiftie , says. “I didn’t move from my tiny little seat area the whole concert, but was transported to 10 different worlds.” Ariel Miranda , another concert-goer agrees. “It was such an immersive experience,” she says. With a distinct focus on world building,  AD takes a look at the incredible set design that helps bring her music to life throughout the 52-date sold-out tour.

The Lover Era

Swift opened the show with tracks off of her seventh studio album,  Lover. “It was as if she picked up right from where she left off,” Miranda says. Having characterized the album with yellow, pink, and blue pastels, Swift—outfitted in a shimmering leotard—belted songs like “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” and “Cruel Summer” while dancers wielding billowing tapestries performed beneath a rosy glow.

At one point in the  Lover set, a familiar dollhouse-like home appeared behind Swift, which many fans recognize from the “Lover” music video. “The screen began flashing images that eventually would piece together to become the Lover House, which was a huge Easter egg,” Miranda adds. In the video, Swift and costar Christian Owens move through various colored rooms  within a house in a snow globe. When the music video first dropped, fans theorized that each room represented one of her existing albums, and with the release of three new albums, many believe the home is now complete .

Other notable scenes from the Lover section of the show include a full-scale office cosplay moment during “The Man,” where Swift sings about the sexism she’s faced throughout her career.

The Fearless Era

Projects and stage lights provide a golden glow during the Fearless era.

Next up in the night, Swift performed three songs from her second album,  Fearless, for which she won album of the year in 2010 at the Grammys (the youngest artist to ever win the accolade). Though she was certainly popular in country circles following her self-titled debut album, it was this second record that established her mainstream success. And not only did the singer bring back some classic circa 2009  dance moves , she also brought back a dazzling gold motif that she employed when promoting the album over a decade ago.

Outfitted in soft curls and sequins, Swift was often portrayed as the girl next door and an American sweetheart during this period. Though she did, at times, lean into this persona, fans remember her determination to be bold, strong, and, yes, fearless. The sparkles and shine acted as visual representation of this.

For fans, perhaps the most exciting Easter egg was a nod to the bedazzled guitar that she toured with during her  Fearless era. In an Instagram story, Swift revealed that it was her parents who artfully stuck the shimmering crystals onto her acoustic guitar just days before The Eras Tour kicked off.

The Evermore Era

“The most striking moment was as she transitioned from Fearless to Evermore ,” Low opines. “The woods grew out of the stage.” A sister album to her 2020  Folklore,  Swift’s ninth album, Evermore, was positioned as a deeper exploration of the “folklorian woods,” a fictional, cottagecore-inspired place used to direct her first foray into indie folk music. Throughout this portion of the night, massive oak-like trees took center stage while Swift crooned behind a moss-covered piano.

Swift uses a moss-covered piano for songs during this set.

“I loved the Evermore era setup, particularly during her performance of ‘Willow,’” Miranda says. “It really made you feel like someone literally just picked you up and dropped you straight into this particular Taylor Swift album.” Sonically, Evermore was understood as a more gothic album compared to  Folkore. The bare trees and snow covered woods represent that, and they also show Swift’s desire to strip back layers and portray innately raw, natural storytelling.

The Reputation Era

Spawned from Swift’s 2016 public feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West,  Reputation represented the singer’s reflection on fame and public perception and an opportunity to rewrite the “good girl” narrative she’d carried around for years. Though the album is often billed as defensive and reactive, it remains one of her most misunderstood collections: It’s also full of love songs and sweet moments. The dark stadium and blood red risers certainly support the most common perception of the album; however, it’s hard to miss the lit candles just below her. After all, it’s no coincidence burning is just as frequently used to describe rage and anger as it is passion and love.

During “Look What You Made Me Do,” Swift’s backup dancers perform in doll boxes dressed in outfits inspired by previous looks she’s worn. The moment was a direct nod to the song’s  music video , in which Swift reenacts various moments throughout her time in the public eye in an eruptive, Easter egg-filled video.

The Speak Now Era

Swift sings “Enchanted” during the Speak Now set.

Swift sings “Enchanted” during the Speak Now set.

Though Swift only performed one song from her third album,  Speak Now —much to the disappointment of some fans—she made sure to make it count. The color purple defined the album’s aesthetic, and, though the shade is often associated with royalty, it can also symbolize ambition, power, and independence. Following her historic win at the Grammys for  Fearless,   Speak Now was a pivotal moment in her career. Could she keep up the pace or was she another teen star who lost momentum as they reached young adulthood? Not only did Swift deliver, she proved she could do it on her own: Speak Now was the first album she wrote entirely solo.

The Red Era

Taylor Swift wears an outfit nearly identical to one she wore in the “22” music video.

The original  Red tour, which took place between 2013 and 2014, was her biggest at the time. It included a seven-piece band, fifteen dancers, multiple costume changes, as well as jumbotrons and multilevel stages. Though The Eras set certainly honored some of these larger-than-life moments from the first  Red tour, it also showed considerable restraint.

Swift wears a sparkling red coat during an acoustic set.

During one particularly emotional moment, Swift sang the 10-minute version of her critically acclaimed “All Too Well” with just her acoustic guitar. However, this doesn’t mean it wasn’t exciting. “Even some of her slower songs like “All Too Well,” where it was just her and a guitar, had insane stage effects that you wouldn’t expect, like snow confetti falling across the stadium and the stage rising when she started singing a high note,” Minocha explains.

The Folklore Era

Taylor Swift on an aframe during the Folklore set.

“I was so obsessed with the  Folklore set because it seemed like Taylor was living her best life in a little remote forest cabin even though some 60,000 people were watching her,” Minocha says of the A-frame cabin Swift brought on stage. (A version of this home was first seen in her  2021 Grammy’s performance .)

Swift wearing an Alberta Ferretti dress during the Folklore set.

Swift wears an Alberta Ferretti dress during the Folklore set.

Thematically,  Folklore explored a fictional woodland world Swift dreamed up during quarantine, and while a cabin certainly captures that aura, the choice of an A-frame specifically is notable. Because they were relatively cheap and easy to build, the style of home grew in popularity in the United States following World War II as vacation properties—an appropriate connection given the album is centered around an escapist fantasy.

A-frames also represented a unique moment for architects who, with little financial consequences at stake, were able to test out their more speculative creative ideations. In many ways, with lockdowns, limited promotion, and no obvious answer for how or if the music would be performed live, this is what Swift’s  Folklore era represented too: the opportunity to explore,  uninhibited . “I love that album and she really created this whole world for it,” Low adds, “Building the folklore cabin and bringing us all into that world with her was just so cool.”

The 1989 Era

The 1989 set of Swifts Eras Tour.

“Another thing that I loved about the stage design in general was how there were basically three different parts of it that all connected together: the main stage, the diamond stage, and the catwalk that led to the end of the stage,” Miranda says. “She really utilized each and every one of these sections of the stage at different times during the night.”

Though examples are abundant, a particularly creative use came during Swift’s  1989 set, a record which won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2016. While performing “Blank Space” on the central diamond, the raised portion displayed a Shelby Cobra, which Swift and backup dancers “hit” with light-up golf clubs in a live reenactment of an iconic scene from the song’s music video.

The Midnights Era

During the final set of the show Swift performed songs from her newest album Midnights.

During the final set of the show, Swift performs songs from her newest album, Midnights.

The non-stop show ended with cuts from Swift’s most recent album,  Midnights,  with the stage cast in dark light, representative of both the title of the album and the end of the concert. Standing firmly in the present,  Midnights still has its roots in the past, since the album tells “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Swift explained in a  Instagram post . It’s easy to follow the way the previous two-plus hours of sonic reflection—aided through the incredible set design—brought her to where she is now. As Minocha summarizes, “I’ve been to almost all of Taylor’s past tours and the stage and production has always been above and beyond, but because this one explores all the eras of her career, everything is just next level.”

taylor swift

Taylor Swift is taking fans on a trip through each of her albums on The Eras Tour, which launched with back-to-back shows on March 17 and 18 in Glendale, Ariz., and her costumes are part of the journey.

As the superstar took the stage at State Farm Arena on the first night, her attention to detail was ever present, as each of her outfits harkened back to a previous tour or live appearance from her 17-year career in the spotlight.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour First Show: Here's the Full Setlist

Kicking off with 2019’s Lover , Swift opened the show using a light pink acoustic guitar reminiscent of the instrument she strummed while performing at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, where she delivered a medley of the title track and “You Need to Calm Down.” To run through early hits such as “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me” from 2008’s Fearless , she brought back her classic style from her sophomore era, donning a gold fringed dress and trading her pink guitar for a sparkly silver edition — the only thing missing was a nod to her famous mane of teenage curls.

When it came time to revisit Reputation , Tay resurrected the popular snake motif from the era (long live Karyn!), channeling her aesthetic from “Look What You Made Me Do” in a dark, asymmetrical body suit covered in glittering red serpents. And while only one song from 2010’s Speak Now was featured on the opening night’s setlist (an extended edition of deep cut “Enchanted”), the singer changed into a fairytale-like ball gown fit for a princess.

13 Best Moments From Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Kickoff

During the part of the setlist dedicated to 2012’s Red , Swift showed off a new version of the T-shirt she wore in the music video for “22” — this time emblazoned with her famously cryptic phrase “Not a lot going on at the moment.” And perhaps the most major set change during the show occurred as she welcomed the audience into the Folklorian woods of her surprise 2020 album by recreating a version of the moss-covered cabin she called home to perform a medley of “Cardigan,” “August” and Evermore lead single “Willow” at the 2021 Grammys with collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner.

The final fashion reference on the tour came when Swift went back to 1989 by changing into a crop top and short skirt, just like the many she wore back in the day with her squad.

She has an incredible eye for capturing moments that are candid and beautifully composed. Every image she captured was stunning, whether it was a posed family portrait or candid shots of our granddaughter playing. She has a natural knack for connecting with kids, which made the entire photo shoot a breeze. She took the time to get to know us, listened to our ideas, and made sure we felt comfortable throughout the shoot. It felt more like spending time with a friend than working with a photographer.”

Taylor Swift's eras: What she was trying to say with each album's style

Taylor Swift in 22, Reputation and Willow

When Taylor Swift drops new music, fans know to look out for everything around the songs. The outfits, the fonts, the music videos and more also tell a story — the story of that album’s aesthetic. So with every album, comes an era.

Swifties know that their monarch tends to embed "clues" everywhere, from song lyrics to liner notes. Nothing, it seems, is an accident. Her aesthetic choices only help to emphasize just how deliberate she is in her framing of an album as a "story," or a moment.

For example, Swift surprised fans with her slinky, fierce attitude on "Reputation" in 2017, conveyed through lyrics and imagery ( specifically, snake imagery ). The subsequent album "Lover," out in 2019, explored a more romantic side of Swift, in which butterflies, rainbows and happiness reigned supreme.

While Swift doesn't often address her personal life , she said she embeds references into the lyrics. So "Reputation," the 2017 album written following her public feud with Kim Kardashian and then-husband Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West), would have a different vibe than "Lover," thought to be an ode to her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

Swift's aesthetic shifts are stark enough than fans can identify themselves in tandem with her various looks — or even to have parties where everyone comes dressed as their favorite Taylor Swift era.

Think of each album as having a personality. If you hear someone say, “I’m in my ‘Reputation’ era right now,” for example ... run — they're probably secretly plotting revenge on you and your entire bloodline.

Ahead of the impending release of “ Midnights ” on Oct. 21, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to explore and remember all of Taylor Swift’s most memorable eras and what each aesthetic contributed to its corresponding album(s).

'Midnights' (2022)

Taylor Swift Midnights

Swift's 10th studio album, "Midnights," is shaping up to be another example of a vibe shift for Swift.

From what we've seen so far, it appears as though "Midnights" will be a blast to the past, with a Stevie Nicks-esque energy — and track names like "Bejeweled" and "Lavender Haze" certainly emphasize that charming '70s vibe.

There's ample evidence of a retro-inspired aesthetic. In social media content to promoting the album , Swift is often wearing mod patterns before a backdrop with color-blocked wallpaper and velvet furniture reminiscent of the '70s.

Lyrically, the songs are poised to explore one of her favorite themes: late nights , whether sleepless from anxiety or from adventure. She said the new track "Anti-Hero" would be about her insecurities .

Plus, there will be  three special edition covers for the vinyl albums . Target will also release an exclusive lavender edition of the vinyl album. From the vinyl covers, fans can see that there's definitely a retro element to the aesthetic of this album.

One of the three vinyls for "Midnights."

'folklore' and 'evermore' (2020)

Taylor Swift Folklore

"Folklore" and "evermore" were released five months apart in 2020, both surprise drops. Some fans theorized a third album, "woodvale," was on the way — but Swift said the album artwork containing the word "woodvale" was a "mistake" while on " Jimmy Kimmel Live !"

Written during the lockdown phase of the pandemic, the albums have a similar aesthetic. Both "folklore" and "evermore" exude a woodsy kind of vibe — one that might make you wish you were a fairy living in a little mushroom house.

During this era, we saw Swift wearing an abundance of cozy sweaters, long, stylish coats, lots of velvet ... and basically anything that screamed " cottagecore ."

Fans often try to re-create this era by styling their hair in Swift's iconic braid displayed on the cover of "evermore" or wearing a flannel (bonus points if you're gallivanting through the woods).

'Lover' (2019)

Taylor Swift Lover

If you've been to any department store in the last three years or so, you've probably heard the song "ME!", featuring Brendon Urie and Swift's first single off the album "Lover."

Although this song didn't quite accurately represent the romantic nature of the album, the visuals definitely aligned. "Lover" was a time of bright colors and dreamy visuals.

On the cover of the album, Swift is sporting blue ombré-d hair in front of a swirling background of colorful clouds. You can also really see Swift's desire to color the world of "Lover" in the music video for the titular track on the album.

For visual proof of this larger-than-life rainbow aesthetic, fans can look to her "Lover" performance on "Saturday Night Live" in 2019 , or her performance at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards .

'Reputation' (2017)

Taylor Swift Reputation

With the release of “Reputation” in 2017, Swift shifted her vibe from “America’s musical sweetheart” to “don’t f--- with me” — and all it took was a wardrobe change.

Throughout her “Reputation” era, Swift ensured a very consistent aesthetic: black ‘fits, snakes galore, lots of knee-high black boots and dark lips to match.

The catalyst of Swift's "Reputation" era seems to be the gossip and rumors trailing her the year prior.

In the summer of 2016, Swift was in the spotlight alongside Ye (formerly Kanye West) and then-wife Kim Kardashian over Ye's song lyrics about Swift and whether she had given her consent. In a now-deleted tweet, West claimed he "had a hour long convo" with Swift and that she gave him her "blessings."

Swift denied that via her rep. “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” the rep said at the time. “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that b---- famous.’”

Taylor Swift Reputation Tour

This story continued to escalate with tweets and leaked audio tapes , leading to Swift finally issuing a statement with her famous line, "I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative," featured at the end of the "Look What You Made Me Do" music video.

The video for "Look What You Made Me Do," the album's first single, encapsulates Swift's fierce presentation of herself. The video features Swift in various settings: a zombie, an heiress-like figure clad in diamonds in a bathtub, a biker chick, her sitting on a throne as a snake served her tea ( the symbolism !!!), etc.

In a knowing and meta moment, Swift stands atop a mountain of past iterations of herself — the “old Taylor” who is “dead,” as the song’s lyrics declare. (More on those old Taylors below.)

Oh, and speaking of snakes, remember when Kim Kardashian famously (but perhaps indirectly) called Swift a "snake" on Twitter and then Swift used 35-foot inflatable snakes as set pieces on her Reputation tour? Yeah, us too.

'1989' (2014)

Taylor Swift 1989

As the song "Style" goes, Swift certainly had that "red lip, classic thing," going on during her "1989" era. During this time, Swift transformed into the global pop star she is today — and had the look to prove it.

While all of Swift's previous albums focused on a country sound (with "Red" dipping into both pop and country), she made the full transition to pop with "1989" — which New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica called a "thriving" era for her.

The aesthetic of “1989” celebrated youth and the freedom that comes with growing up — but also a sadness, too.

She seems to long for what’s already passed her by, a craving for nostalgia made evident from the polaroid-inspired cover art Swift chose for her 2014 album, as well as the accompanying polaroid photo series.

Taylor Swift 1989 tour

One of the biggest changes for Swift to come out of her "1989" era was the bob haircut she sported for much of this album's span. She also donned red lipstick and nails, white sunglasses and polka dots — and lots of sequins.

And who could forget some of the unforgettable music videos that were released for "1989"?

“Blank Space,” one of the singles off “1989,” is Swift playing into the public's perception of her — that she’s a love-crazed woman with a Rolodex of love interests — and the music video is a dramatization of that. Swift plays a rich woman who turns mad and ruins her boyfriend's life until the next guy comes along.

In "1989," Swift seemed to be coming into her power and having fun while doing so.

'Red' (2012)

Taylor Swift Red Taylor's Version

As the album name suggests, Swift certainly incorporated the color red into a lot of promotional assets for this album — but that wasn't the only sartorial trend to come out of this era.

For example, around the time of "Red's" release, Swift started consistently wearing her trademark bangs hairstyle.

Another attention-grabbing look from her "Red" era was an outfit from her "22" music video, where she's wearing a shirt that says "not a lot going on at the moment" with a black hat and shorts.

At the time in 2013, the phrase wasn't as significant as it is now — but in 2020, Swift used this phrase not once, but twice in Instagram posts to hint at a pattern of her dropping surprise albums. Swift certainly knows how to keep the fans on their toes.

Taylor Swift Jingle Ball 2012

'Speak Now' (2010)

Taylor Swift Speak Now

"Speak Now" walked so "folklore" and "evermore" could run. When you think of "Speak Now," think romantic — flowing dresses and flowing hair. During the era of "Speak Now," Swift embraced lush aesthetics and added an air of fantasy to the promotion of this album.

One of the songs on the album that perfectly depicts this fairy tale energy is "Enchanted," which coincidentally is the most streamed song on the 2010 album, coming in at over 300 million streams according to Spotify .

'Fearless' (2008)

Taylor Swift Fearless

"Fearless" marked the time when Swift really started making an international name for herself as a country-pop singer/songwriter.

"Fearless," Swift's second album, is chock-full of hits: "Love Story," "You Belong with Me," "Fifteen," "White Horse," among others.

Throughout the “Fearless” era, Swift seemed to start exploring her style — and embracing her individuality — more. This was the era of Swift's legendary big, blond curls.

'Taylor Swift' (2006)

Taylor Swift album

“Taylor Swift,” her debut album released in 2006, was the start of what was to become a very long and successful career.

This album solidified Swift as an up-and-coming country singer. As a girl from a small town in Pennsylvania, Swift really embraced the “just a girl with her guitar” vibe as she began navigating her place in the music industry.

I Decided To Listen To Every Taylor Swift Album After Finally Watching The Eras Tour - And I Think I Have A New Favorite Era

I have a confession: I fell out of love with Taylor Swift for a while.

I know, I know, it seemed that when everyone in the world was starting to fall even more in love with her, the music she made and her life didn’t hit as hard as my early-twenties self. While I heard plenty about Taylor Swift, from her mega Eras Tour to her friendships with Blake Lively or her years-long one with Selena Gomez, I hadn’t properly listened to her music in a long time.

Then, of course, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) began streaming on Disney+ , and while I hadn’t gotten the chance to see it in theaters, I decided to check it out on my big TV at home and see what I had been missing.

Of course, there were plenty of songs I recognized, all from my earlier days of liking Taylor Swift, but when she got to many of her songs from Folklore, Evermore, and more, I didn’t know them that well. So after I watched the movie, I decided to listen to every Taylor Swift album again—and I’m surprised at which one has become my favorite -- evermore . But before we get to how that came to be, let's rewind a bit...

Initially, My Favorite Album/Era Of Hers Was 1989

I grew up as a pop girl. My father works in the wedding industry, and at every wedding he performs, pop is the leading music he plays. I grew up constantly listening to the latest pop music.

That usually meant that most Taylor Swift stuff—at least her earlier albums—wasn’t often played in my house. But you want to know what it was? 1989.

Her album, which really cemented her transition to pop, is one that I have distinct memories of and have always loved listening to. Whether blasting “Blank Space” in the car or dancing to “Shake It Off” at school dances, it was my Swift album of choice for a long time.

Red Was Always A Close Second, And Reputation Was In Third

While Red was more country than pop, that was undoubtedly my second favorite era of hers. I loved “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and I used to sing “All Too Well” at the top of my lungs for a very long time. I sang it even more than the 10-minute version (which is one of her best music videos ), but that’s beside the point.

My third favorite era was Reputation. When it first came out, Swift got some backlash for suddenly switching up her vibe and releasing music like “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Ready For It,” but I was eating it up. I adored this new version of her, and I was looking forward to the potential of more albums like this.

But, ashamedly, I fell off a bit afterward and continued to do so until now.

Her Earlier Albums Were Fun To Me, But Not My Favorite Era

You’re probably wondering when I’m going to mention Fearless, Speak Now, or even the O.G. Swift album, Taylor Swift. That’s because I am not the biggest fan.

Again, I grew up with pop blasting in my household, so country was never really a thing. Swift’s earlier albums are certainly a lot more country than anything else.

While there were plenty of great songs from those albums that I did listen to, like “Love Story,” “Our Song,” “You Belong With Me,” and plenty more, they never hit quite as hard as some of her others, which is what leads me to this now.

I Had Never Listened To Evermore – And I Regret Not Doing So

Evermore came out in 2020, a few months after Folklore and a year after Lover. I had listened to Lover and liked the vibe it brought, but it wasn’t an album I replayed repeatedly.

Then, of course, 2020 happened.

Life was turned upside down for a while, and I was more preoccupied with trying to graduate and find a job for a long time. Listening to the new T-Swift albums was not my number one priority.

But I decided to listen to her new albums for a long time after watching The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). I liked the vibes both gave during the concert, so I thought maybe I would like the albums.

And I genuinely mean this from the bottom of my heart – I wish I had listened to Evermore sooner.

In the next section, I’ll go into detail about what I feel regarding Folklore and Midnights, but this section is for Evermore. I had never felt so seen during an album, so heard. I started listening to it and was instantly transported to another part of the world.

The songs on Evermore are so expertly written that I was shocked at how great they were. I mean, obviously, Taylor Swift is a talented writer when it comes to her lyrics, but I don’t think I was quite expecting the amount of lyrical genius in some of her songs on this album.

There are plenty of songs I could point out, but the one I have to highlight is “Champagne Problems.” I saw the performance of it in the concert film, but listening to it is on another level; hearing about a woman saying no to a proposal because she doesn’t feel ready, she’s not emotionally there to take that next step – it hits so hard, especially as a mid-twenties adult.

Folklore And Midnights Are A Great Representation Of Taylor Now, But Evermore Has Become My Absolute Favorite

I’ll openly say I liked Folklore and Midnights in my rewatching. Both have very different vibes but are written lyrically well and have some great hits. I was still dancing like crazy listening to “Karma” two years after her album came out – and thinking even more about how she changed the lyrics to represent her current relationship with Travis Kelce .

But there’s just something about Evermore that hits the hardest, and I think I know what it is— Evermore feels like an album that describes a young woman’s twenties. Swift wrote this album when she was barely in her thirties, and it feels like I’m opening someone’s journal and reading their most profound problems, insecurities about life, and so much more.

At the end of the day, despite how magical and whimsical some of the songs felt, they all hit very close to home, as I’m sure they do for many others. It’s an album that was composed during a tough time in our lives that still hits nearly four years later. No matter what, we all have these insecurities, strange feelings, and so much more – and it’s nice to hear someone as big as Taylor Swift speak about them candidly.

I have to say that I am excited for her next album, The Tortured Poet’s Department. While I know all the Swifties are waiting for RepTV , I’m excited for another Era of Swift and what she’s going to bring. And this time, I will not skip any of the albums because I’m a fan, and it’s nice to be back in it after all these years.

Taylor Swift Sings Along to ‘Karma’ During Ice Spice’s Set at Coachella With Travis Kelce: Watch

The 'All Too Well' singer supported her pal and was seen jamming out to her own song when Ice Spice performed her remix of Taylor Swift's song.

Taylor Swift   showed love to her friend  Ice Spice   during her set at Coachella on Saturday, April 13. The popstar, 34, was spotted down in the crowd, singing and dancing along to her own song “Karma,” while she cozied up to her boyfriend   Travis Kelce , 34, during the rapper’s set. Taylor looked like she was having a blast as she cheered on Ice Spice, 24.

While Ice Spice played her remix of the  Midnights  track, fans filmed Taylor singing and dancing along with Travis down in the crowd. The “Shake It Off” singer had her hands raised in the air and sang along, while the Kansas City Chiefs player also had his arms up, showing off some of his dance moves. Taylor screamed shortly after the chorus ended.

In the crowd, Taylor rocked a black leather jacket and her signature blonde locks were blowing in the wind. Later in the night, the singer was also seen supporting her beau’s podcast  New Heights  by wearing one of its green hats, via  Women’s Wear Daily. Travis rocked a white plaid shirt, white t-shirt, and a matching Happy Gilmore  baseball cap. He also sported a pair of shades and had a bunch of bracelets on.

Taylor debuted her “Karma” remix with Ice Spice as part of the deluxe Till Dawn edition of her album Midnights back in May 2023. She shouted her out as she announced the collab. “I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch,” she wrote. Just after releasing the debut, Taylor welcomed the rapper onstage at her “Eras Tour” concert in East Rutherford, NJ.

Besides the remix with Ice Spice, the song also has some significance in Taylor’s romance with Travis. The singer shouted out her beau by changing a lyric during her concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2023. “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” she sang, while the tight end attended her show.

Morgan Wallen Defends Taylor Swift Against Crowd After He Jokes About Attendance Records

Morgan wallen defended taylor swift after his comments about the "karma" singer's popularity sparked booing from the crowd at his recent concert in indianapolis..

Taylor Swift   is rarely standing alone in a crowded room.

Which is why  Morgan Wallen  joked that though his April 4 and 5 concerts at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium set attendance records , he knew his reign would be short-lived.

"They told me right before I walked on stage that this is the single most attended concert in the history of this building," Morgan announced during his first Indianapolis show, as seen in footage shared to social media . "And that we're the first people to do it two nights in a row, so thank you for making it possible for me to say that. Thank you for listening and loving this music."

He then added of Taylor, who is set to play the stadium for three nights in a row in November for her Eras Tour , "I'm gonna say that 'til Taylor Swift comes to town in the fall."

And though the crowd began to first laugh and cheer at his words, booing soon began—which the 30-year-old quickly shut down.

"We ain't gotta boo. We ain't gotta boo," he interjected, before adding, "I appreciate that. I know you all got my back though."

But joking aside, anyone who has attended a stop on the Eras Tour can attest to how the crowd went wild. In fact, in addition to setting records in almost every state and country it's been too, the Eras Tour already earned Taylor a top nod at the end of 2023.

“22 & Good 4 U” — a multi-city series of dance parties with a “Taylor Swift vs. Olivia Rodrigo” theme — is behind this Swift-focused 18-and-over dance night at DC9 , a concert venue that, as far as we can tell, is one of the few in D.C. that hasn’t previously hosted a Swiftie event. 8 to 11 p.m. $15-$20 .

Taylor Swift Album Drop Party at Bark Social

Does your four-legged friend love “1989” as much as you do, or is it more of a “Fearless” Chihuahua? Dress your dog up for its favorite Era at Bark Social’s Alexandria and North Bethesda dog park/beer garden hybrids, which will be playing Taylor Swift tunes, awarding prizes for the best Taylor-inspired human and dog costumes, and serving $5 Swiftie cocktails. No dog is required for entry, though dogs must be registered with Bark Social, including their current vaccine records. Bethesda from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Alexandria from 5 to 10 p.m. Free for humans. Dogs require a day pass or monthly membership. (If your dog isn’t already a member, you can get a free day pass online.)

Taylor Swift Bingo at the Coupe

Cap City Trivia organizes the pub quiz at the Coupe on Thursdays, but the group, with co-host NuNu Paris , is making a special Friday appearance at the Columbia Heights bar for Swiftie Bingo. Take a bingo card filled with song titles from all Eras, and stamp a square when that song plays over the sound system (while singing along, of course). 6 to 8 p.m. Free; reservations suggested .

Taylor Swift Dance Party at Wunder Garten

Wunder Garten regularly hosts events for Swifties — there was a “Forever Winter Taylor Swift Party” at the NoMa beer garden during its après-ski pop-up in February — so you should know exactly what to expect: singalongs and “Taylor-themed cocktails.” 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Free .

Taylor Swift Listening Party at Franklin Hall

The Shaw beer hall features Taylor Swift tunes and a menu of themed drinks. 9 p.m. to midnight. Free .

Taylor Swift cocktails at Last Call

Union Market’s no-frills neighborhood bar isn’t hosting a listening party, but is celebrating the new album with a menu of $8 cocktails, such as the Alchemy — a green-tea gin gimlet — inspired by tracks on “The Tortured Poets Department.” Friday through Sunday. $8 per cocktail .

Saturday, April 20

‘Tortured Poets Department’ Album Release Event at the Takoma Park Maryland Library

The release of “Tortured Poets Department” occurs during National Poetry Month, which has not escaped the notice of the Takoma Park Maryland Library . This party, designed for ages 7 and older, includes poetry writing sessions and trivia, with prizes and refreshments. 1 to 3 p.m. Free .

Taylor Swift Karaoke at Quincy Hall

Ballston’s Quincy Hall marked the release of “ 1989 (Taylor’s Version) ” with a Halloween karaoke contest — a gambit so popular that the venue is resurrecting it for an album of new material. Get there early to sign up for classic hits or new material, sip on themed cocktails, and sing along with whoever’s on the mic. Specials include $3 pizza slices and $3 jello shots from 9 p.m. until close. 9:30 p.m. Free .

Monday, April 22

Taylor Swift Party at the Pug

The Pug seems an unlikely place for a Taylor Swift party — the soundtrack at the divey H Street bar is primarily punk and go-go — and yet it’s been hosting release parties for Swifties since “Midnights” dropped in October 2022, thanks to owner Tony Tomelden and his intrepid regulars. These very crowded, very fun events turn the crowd into a communal choir, singing at the top of their lungs. Don’t expect fancy themed cocktails, though. It’s a beer-and-a-shot place at heart, no matter what’s playing on the turntable. 8 p.m. Free .

Thursday, April 25

Taylor Swift Trivia at Honor Brewing

Honor’s Sterling taproom and production facility hosts a monthly themed trivia night, and this month is all about Taylor Swift. Prizes are awarded for the top three teams. Arrive early for happy hour, which includes $10 flights, $5 wines and $1 off pints. 7 p.m. Free .

Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Blackpink's Lisa: Celebrities spotted at Coachella 2024

  • The annual Coachella music festival, held in Indio, California, is underway.
  • Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and even Blackpink's Lisa were spotted in the audience.
  • Here are the celebrities who have attended the music festival so far.

Insider Today

It's Coachella season, and some of the world's most famous faces are out to have fun.

The annual festival takes place in Indio, California. Its first weekend just ended, and its second is just coming: April 19 to 21.

The festival makes big money — according to Billboard, ticket sales come to more than $115 million a year — is a major cultural touchstone.

However, the festival's trendy reputation has diminished in recent years, fueled by complaints of less buzzy lineups, high prices, and an influx of influencers. The Los Angeles Times reported last week that this year's Coachella is the first in more than a decade not to sell out.

Onstage this year, the biggest names were Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat, among others.

But many of the celebrity sightings were offstage. The likes of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez , Taylor Swift, and even Blackpink's Lisa have been spotted among the audience.

Here are the celebrities who have been seen enjoying Coachella 2024 so far.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

The power couple was spotted holding hands at Coachella this weekend. Swift wore a green "New Heights" cap in a nod to Kelce's podcast with his brother, "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce."

Kelce, an NFL star , was also filmed whispering into Swift's ear while standing in the crowd.

The Amazon CEO made a surprise appearance at Coachella with his fiancée Lauren Sánchez. According to Page Six , the pair were photographed with Kris Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble, while waiting for Lana Del Rey's performance to begin last Friday.

The couple was filmed walking around the festival grounds with their arms wrapped around each other.

They were also spotted enjoying Tyler, the Creator 's set on Saturday.

Tyler also brought Rocky onstage for a surprise appearance during the songs "Potato Salad" and "Who Dat Boy."

Shakira and Blackpink's Lisa

Shakira, who joined Bizarrap's set for a surprise performance on Friday, shared some photos from Coachella on her Instagram — including a snap with Blackpink's Lisa.

In the photo, the K-Pop star could be seen holding the "Waka Waka" singer's latest album, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran," which was released in March.

Blackpink is the biggest K-pop girl group in the world and entered Spotify's Billions club last month after their song "How You Like That" received a billion streams on the platform.

Barry Keoghan

The "Saltburn" star was spotted filming Sabrina Carpenter 's debut Coachella performance on Friday.

This comes weeks after Keoghan was seen cheering Carpenter on when she opened for Taylor Swift's Eras tour in Singapore.

Taylor swift didn’t need lucrative side hustles to become a billionaire.

Taylor Swift officially landed on Forbes’ billionaires list on Tuesday, April 2. But what distinguishes the 34-year-old singer-songwriter from other wealthy artists is how she accumulated her billion-dollar fortune.

The Miss Americana star ranked No. 2,545 on Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List . According to Forbes , there are more billionaires than ever before (141 more than last year and 26 more than the 2021 record), with their collective worth reaching $14.2 trillion. Swift’s inclusion comes after Forbes declared the singer a billionaire in October 2023 and reported her net worth at $1.1 billion.

In a rare feat, Swift is the first musician to reach the milestone solely from songwriting and performing. Her fortune doesn’t largely derive from profitable side hustles (think: beauty brands, fashion lines, alcohol investments, etc.), which have been typical avenues for entertainers to become billionaires in recent years. This puts her in a unique category with artists like Bruce Springsteen, who earned $1 billion from on the road touring.

More than $500 million of Swift’s fortune is from music royalties and touring. She made an estimated $190 million after taxes from the first leg of the Eras tour and another $35 million from the first two weeks of screenings of the corresponding concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which became the highest-grossing concert movie in history.

Meanwhile, another $500 million of her earnings came from the increasing value of her music catalog. Her masters (Swift’s first six albums) were infamously purchased in 2019 by Scooter Braun and eventually sold to Shamrock Capital for $300 million in 2020.

“This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept,” Swift penned on Tumblr in 2019 when she learned that Braun had bought her masters. “Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.”

At the time, Swift also parted ways with her long-time home, Big Machine Label Group, to join Universal Music Group’s Republic Records, a deal that would give the superstar complete ownership over songwriting and the recordings, ultimately boosting her earnings in the long run.

"I'm ecstatic to announce that my musical home will be Republic Records and Universal Music Group," Swift wrote on Instagram about the news. "Over the years, [UMG chief] Sir Lucian Grainge and [Republic chief] Monte Lipman have been such incredible partners. It's so thrilling to me that they, and the UMG team, will be my label family moving forward. It's also incredibly exciting to know that I'll own all of my master recordings that I make from now on."

Since switching labels, Swift has released four new albums, Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights, and re-recorded Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version ). Swift’s the sole writer on over one-fourth of her top 50 Billboard chart hits, although she frequently shares writing credits with collaborators like Jack Antonoff and Max Martin, who also get a portion of a record sale.

On April 19, the pop star will release her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, which will also add to her massive earnings. Swift announced the new record during her Album of the Year win acceptance speech at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February.

While becoming a billionaire, the singer made a huge monetary impact on the NFL. Swift created a brand value equivalent of $331.5 million for the Chiefs and the league, according to data from Apex Marketing Group . That number comes from print, digital, radio, TV, highlights, and social media mentioning Swift from her first game on Sept. 24 to Jan. 22.

One of Swift’s many accomplishments from last year also includes being named Time Magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year. In her interview with journalist Sam Lansky, Swift told the magazine that “this is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been.”
