Joining Chris and Rich in THE BLACK CROWES ' most recent touring lineup were returning bassist Sven Pipien , who played with the band live from 1997 up until the band's hiatus in 2015, along with Brian Griffin on drums, Joel Robinow on keyboards and Isaiah Mitchell on guitar.

In celebration of the culmination of their 2021-22 reunion tour, THE BLACK CROWES released "The Black Crowes: Shake Your Money Maker Live" , an ode to the band reuniting and following an epic two-year anniversary tour with over 100 dates worldwide.

A deluxe reissue of "The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion" arrived on December 1, 2023. The set included previously unreleased studio recordings, rare B-sides and a live performance from 1993 at Houston's Sam Houston Coliseum.

THE BLACK CROWES ' debut album, 1990's "Shake Your Money Maker" , was re-released in multi-formats sets in February 2021 through UMe / American Recordings . The album, fueled by singles "Jealous Again" , "Twice As Hard" , "She Talks To Angels" and a cover of fellow Georgian Otis Redding 's "Hard To Handle" , has sold over five million copies.

The Black Crowes Bring Rock & Soul To Seattle On ‘Happiness Bastards Tour’ [Review/Photos]

black crowes, happiness bastards, black crowes seattle, black crowes 4/15/24, black crowes tour, mccaw hall

“Monday night’s the new Saturday night!” Chris Robinson shouted out to the packed house at McCaw Hall , a downtown Seattle theatre typically used for for dance and performing arts. The weekday show was the ninth stop on The Black Crowes ‘ world tour in support of Happiness Bastards’ , the band’s first album in 15 years.

The drum set was perched above a pile of vintage guitar amps as a cardboard cutout of Chuck Berry looked out from behind. The rest of the band members had their nooks in an old-timey sideshow gallery. They started the night off with the ’70s glam rock reminiscent “Bedside Manners” and “Rats and Clowns”, the first two tracks on the new record. The rock and roll carnival continued as the previously estranged brothers indulged the crowd with a few of the band’s classics.

They paid homage to the roots of rock and roll with Bo Diddley ’s dirty, low-riding groove, “Road Runner”, and called out other artists from the rhythm and blues cradle of Georgia, one of those of course being Otis Redding . Everyone in the crowd sang along to the Redding classic “Hard to Handle” and continued to do so to another of the band’s staples, “She Talks to Angels”.

Chris Robinson’s gritty soulful voice is as powerful as ever—as are the rock and roll frontman moves he shook in front of the center-stage mirror as he and the band treated the crowd to two more heavy hitters, “Remedy” and “Jealous Again”, before closing the evening out with the beloved 2009 “Good Morning Captain”. The 90-minute show was a solid mix of new material and greatest hits—a true American rock and roll show from a true American rock and roll band!

The Black Crowes (formed in 1989) is an American blues and Southern rock band that draws huge comparisons with the Rolling Stones and the Faces, hailing from Marietta, Georgia, U.S.

Originally formed under the moniker Mr. Crowe’s Garden in 1984, the earliest incarnation took influence from local act R.E.M, 1960’s psychedelia, and classic rock. Though the band had undergone many changes over its history, brother Chris and Rich Robinson have remained at the core on The Black Crowes sound. In 1989 following a successful demo the band signed with Def American, who issued The Black Crowes' debut album “Shake Your Money Maker” in 1990. The multi-platinum selling release was recorded with the band’s first lineup of vocalist Chris Robinson, guitarist Rich Robinson, bassist Johnny Colt, guitarist Jeff Cease, and drummer Steve Gorman. Though the album proved relatively popular as a whole, it was their Top 30 cover of the Otis Redding song “Hard to Handle”, followed by the singles “She Talks to Angels”, “Jealous Again” that really catapulted the band to mainstream consciousness. In support of the release the Black Crowes opened for ZZ Top and took part on the Monsters of Rock tour in the Soviet Union alongside Mötley Crüe and Queensrÿche.

The band’s sophomore album “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion” arrived in 1992 marking the departure of guitarist Jeff Cease and the arrival of Marc Ford. The album topped the Billboard 200 upon release, aided by the singles “Remedy”, “Sting Me”, “Thorn in my Pride”, and “Hotel Illness”. To fill out The Black Crowes' sound they invited the keyboardist Eddie Harsch to join their ranks, and whom made his debut on the album “Amorica” in 1994. The album earned strong reviews from a number of reputable sources including Rolling Stone magazine and was supported by a national tour, including an opening slot for the Grateful Dead in 1995.

In 1996 The Black Crowes released the full-length “Three Snakes and One Charm”, which the band supported with a summer run on the 1997 Further Festival with Ratdog and Bruce Hornsby. Following the release guitarist Marc Ford was sacked from the group, bassist Johnny Colt left of his own accord, and the Crowes lineup dissolved itself. After a small hiatus, a reformed Black Crowes appeared in 1999 consisting of the Robinson brothers, bassist Sven Pipien, and guitarist Audley Freed. The new lineup released the studio album “By Your Side” in January 1999, the same year the band were joined by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page for a pair of shows in New York and Los Angeles.

The full-length “Lions” followed in 2001 issued by Richard Branson's V2 label. Charting at No. 20 on the Bilboard 200, The Black Crowes toured alongside Oasis and Spacehog before embarking on their own headlining tour. With tensions running high within the group, the Black Crowes took a hiatus in January 2002, which saw Rich Robinson release a solo album entitled “Paper” in 2004. The group returned however in 2005 to play a show at San Francisco’s Fillmore, which found its way onto the live release “Freak ’N’ Roll… Into the Fog” in 2006. The compilation of previously unreleased albums entitled “The Lost Crowes” was issued in 2006, after which guitarist Luther Dickinson join the band’s ranks. The new guitarist directed the group in a more southern rock style, which was apparent on the 2008 album “Warpaint”. In 2009 The Black Crowes released their eighth studio album “Before the Frost/Until the Freeze”, followed by 2010’s “Croweology”, and the 2013 live album “Wiser for the Time”.

Live reviews

There are few bands left today that still exude an air of pure rock and roll, and nobody captures that essence better than The Black Crowes. Over the last three decades I have witnessed the Robinson brothers and company strut their stuff on stage, and every time am left with a satisfied feeling that I just witnessed a real, honest to goodness ROCK and ROLL concert at its highest form (and also with some undoubtedly sore feet from all the dancing!)

Lead singer Chris Robinson is one of the best rock and roll frontmen of all time. His wiry frame provides authenticity when emulating Mick Jagger's patented dance moves, but there is no shortage of originality in Robinson's performance. The Crowes vary their setlist every night, and be prepared to see plenty of improvisation both musically and lyrically. This makes it difficult to sing along a lot of times, but ensures a unique concert experience every single time. With incense burning and scarves dangling, the stage is set for a rock and roll love fest. The soulful backup singers provide the backdrop and the Hammond organ ever present stage-left brings a fullness to the atmosphere both literally and figuratively.

The Black Crowes have a big catalog to draw from, and you will surely hear some of their "hits" like "Hard To Handle" or "Remedy" during one of their shows, but you will also be treated to a couple extended jams, and often a choice cover song; the Rolling Stones' "Torn and Frayed" and The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" are go-to's for the band. The more danceable moments are complimented excellently by the more tender, quieter moments you will find at their shows. With the lights dimmed and lighters flickering the sultry sounds of harmonica and slide guitar will melt your body into a state of rock and roll bliss; an incredible rock and roll contact high. At these moments I find myself closing my eyes and letting the music move me...What a trip!

These days The Crowes tend to play smaller venues then they did at the height of their popularity in the early 1990's, but maintain a fiercely loyal fan base and are known to frequent some really excellent rock and roll institutions. For example, in New England they almost always make stops at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, the House of Blues in Boston, or the State Theatre in Portland, Maine. These venues add intimacy and ambiance to an already transcendent rock and roll experience. I recall a particularly raucous reunion performance in May 2005 at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom where the entire hardwood dance floor was bouncing up and down from everyone moving and grooving.

The Black Crowes are the living embodiment of rock and roll. To see them live is to become one with that rock and roll spirit and forget all the mundaneness of the "outside" world. It is clear when you see them that they are the torchbearer of the essence of rock and roll, handed directly to them from The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, and The Band. As nostalgic as that may seem, there is nothing stale about their performance, and young and old alike will be dancing along. Do yourself a big favor and go see The Black Crowes in concert if you have never, and if you have before, go see them again. Let's help keep that rock and roll torch burning strong, and all be warmed by it's awesome glow. Don't forget your lighter!

What. a. gig!

Intimate (brilliant) venue: Omeara

Chris and Rich Robinson the brothers from the black crowes.

One guitar (well, about seven different acoustic guitars) and a harmonica.

It really was a privilege to be there.

Who knows how many shows they will do together in the future, but playing “the big songs” some beautiful ballads and the odd cover - worth seeing while you can

See the Black Crowes Play ‘Twice as Hard’ to Open ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ Tour

By Joseph Hudak

Joseph Hudak

The Black Crowes announced their Shake Your Money Maker 30th anniversary tour in November 2019. On Tuesday night, nearly two years later, the trek finally got underway at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater.

While the big news around the tour is the reunion of perpetually squabbling siblings Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson , it’s billed as a celebration of the Black Crowes’ 1990 debut Shake Your Money Maker , plus “all the hits.” The band played the album in full and in sequence, opening the show with a blistering “Twice as Hard.”

As a Wurlitzer jukebox wheeled onstage blared Elmore James’ 1961 recording of “Shake Your Money Maker,” the band’s revamped lineup took their places: Crowes alumnus Sven Pipien on bass joined new faces Isaiah Mitchell on lead guitar, Brian Griffin on drums, and Joel Robinow on keys, along with two harmony singers. Chris Robinson, in an all-white suit, hid beneath a Crowes logo umbrella until guitarist Rich Robinson, juxtaposed in all black, struck the first chords of “Twice as Hard” and the lights came up.

At 54, the frontman doesn’t seem to have missed a figurative or literal step during the tour’s pandemic delay. He offered a Mummers strut with the parasol, twirled his mic stand, and indulged in more than a few Jagger-like chicken moves, bobbing his head with a hand resting lightly on his hip. His voice was soulful and bell-clear. Rich, meanwhile, was all business, simultaneously frowning and powering the band forward with his rhythm playing, leaving Mitchell — a wonder throughout the night — to deliver slide-guitar leads and solos. (There were a few glimpses of brotherly love between the Robinsons; Rich broke into a wide smile at one of his brother’s onstage gags.)

The Black Crowes followed their Shake Your Money Maker set with 10 more songs from throughout their career, including “No Speak No Slave” off 1992’s Southern Harmony and Musical Companion ; “Wiser Time” from 1995’s Amorica ; and “Soul Singing” from 2001’s Lions . They returned to The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion for the encore: a typically soulful and hyper-charged take on “Remedy.”

The Nashville tour kickoff is the first gig for the Robinsons since they staged the acoustic mini-tour Brothers of a Feather in March 2020, a club run that was filmed for an accompanying concert film . The Black Crowes return to Ascend Amphitheater on Wednesday night for a second show, before heading to the Northeast for stops this weekend in New Hampshire and Connecticut.

Aerosmith, The Black Crowes announce new tour dates. Get tickets to Indianapolis concert

T he long-anticipated Aerosmith "Peace Out: Farewell Tour" is back after a postponement due to a vocal injury to Steven Tyler, the lead singer.

Aerosmith announced new tour dates on April 10, and the "Peace Out" tour, featuring The Black Crowes, will rock the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Jan. 16, 2025, towards the end of tour dates. The tour begins on Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and concludes on Feb. 26, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.

The tour, which kicked off in September 2023, was postponed due to a vocal injury experienced by lead singer. The band posted on Instagram on Sept. 29, 2023, telling fans shows wouldn't continue until 2024.

"To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential," according to the caption.

Indianapolis concerts: Maroon 5 and Maren Morris will return to the Indy area this summer. How to get tickets

The band posted again on April 10 revealing new tour dates.  "All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows – you’ll receive more info via email. THE BLACK CROWES

the black crowes tour

The Black Crowes are leaving the bullshit in the past. 15 years after their last album of original music, the Robinson Brothers present Happiness Bastards - their 10th studio album. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it's arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll. In a time where the art form is buried beneath the corporate sheen of its successors, The Black Crowes are biting back with the angst of words left unsaid penned on paper and electrified by guitar strings, revealing stripped, bare-boned rock & roll. No gloss, no glitter, just rhythm and blues at it's very best - gritty, loud, and in your face.

Since The Black Crowes reunited in 2019, they've made a triumphant return to form with over 150 shows spanning 20 countries worldwide, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shake Your Money Maker , the album that put them on the map. Upon their return from the road, they knew they needed something new to show for their lost time. The Robinson Brothers and longtime bassist Sven Pipien headed to the studio with producer Jay Joyce in early 2023 and the experiences of years past transcribed themself through the music as the band found their way back to their roots. And it's finally here - Happiness Bastards is out March 15, 2024.

Aerosmith Announce ‘Peace Out’ Farewell Tour With Support From The Black Crowes

Aerosmith have just revealed an extensive North American farewell tour that will take the classic hard rock act through the rest of the year and into 2024. They teased it last week.  The Black Crowes will support them on the tour. General on-sale begins May 5. Longtime Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer , who's recently been absent from the band , won't be playing.

The announcement comes months after Aerosmith canceled the  final dates  of their multi-year " Deuces Are Wild " concert residency in Las Vegas due to Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler 's health. In a statement at the time, the performer was said to feel " unwell ."

Now, the band's getting back on the road…for the last time. See a video trailer below.

In a joint statement, Aerosmith shared, "It's not goodbye, it's PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives."

They added regarding Kramer, "While Joey remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey's unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed."

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry  first mentioned the upcoming tour to Boston Globe in an interview ahead of his April mini-tour with The Joe Perry Project .

"After really not doing much for eight months. … [My wife] Billie and I were just keeping our heads low," the guitarist said. "Now, it's like, 'OK, this is what I do.'"
