Unfortunately Elvis just seemed content to run through the same old songs and here, for the first time, we have the highlights from those 12 Spring concerts. Everybody's opinion of this will differ depending on your expectations.

Beware, this is definitely not "Elvis' Live Greatest Hits" although the track list still looks the same. However it does show that Elvis was still sounding happy on stage and in fairly good form, despite the fact that his lifeblood was slipping away.

This 1977 material is what EPE & Ernst J have been trying to keep away from the public eye but, despite the damning reviews elsewhere, this is still a crucial period of Elvis' life that deserves to be released to the true Elvis fans who will understand the importance of these final few months. This is what the FTD series is all about and Ernst & Roger Semon have to be congratulated for releasing this material at last.

What we get is 23 songs mixed together to feel like a single concert and Ernst has chosen the best of what was available.

The photos on the sleeve certainly aren't the ones I would have selected and do give a bad impression of a tired, over-weight and over-worked Elvis, however the Ann Arbor review printed on the sleeve says the opposite. "At 42, Presley still cuts a stunning figure on stage,….".

We have heard several of these concerts bootlegged from soundboard recordings and along with the common technical problems, Elvis often seemed to be firing on only 3 cylinders. However when the mood grabbed him he could still put on a fine performance.

These versions don't stand up to the 1969-1972 shows of course but listen to this CD and you know that you would have loved to have been there for every unpredictable minute. Compared to the extremely sad FTD release of Tucson '76 this is a great improvement.

Kicking off with Elvis fooling with 'That's all right' Ernst sets the relaxed tone of these Spring shows. "God all-mighty, it's warped," says Elvis as he strums his guitar. It's his second tour of 1977 and he IS having fun. From March 26th in Norman, Oklahoma, this was the very first show that Felton recorded.

'Are you Lonesome Tonight' follows with less messing around than in the tragic 'Elvis In Concert' version but his voice quavers and it is obvious that he is still warming up. "If you don't mind I'd like to do Blue Christmas, I know it's a strange time of year but .." says Elvis as he strums his guitar. This is rare and delicious material and you only wish that you'd been there.

'Trying to get to you' is ok but Elvis kicks on with a very fine unrehearsed 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy' - Very dirty and bluesy. A real gem, which emphasizes the importance of this release. Elvis really gets into it and laughs with the enjoyment of it all.. "Yeah, Lord, Lord" .

'Fever' is a very good 1977 recording, obviously not up to his 74 versions, but crank up the sound and you can really hear the audience swinging along.

After this Elvis only sounds vaguely interested in performing 'Heartbreak Hotel' which is ok but after 1000 live performances of this and his other 50's hits, how inspired could he be? We would have all loved to hear these classics live but Elvis must have been tired of performing them.

'It's Now or Never ', 'Teddy Bear/Don't be cruel' etc get similar treatment. 'If You Love Me' (always a lightweight song) is the undubbed 'Master' that was featured on 'Moody Blue' and sounds just fine here.

Elvis' spontaneous nature is nicely demonstrated when he starts 'Blue Hawaii'. Elvis laughs and says "Watch the musicians panic.. well do something Tony, right or wrong it don't matter'. Sadly piano player Tony Brown doesn't know the song. If only Glen D. Hardin had been there that night.

However a funky 'Little Sister' saves everything with Elvis grooving along to James Burton's cutting guitar work. The CD continues to improve with Elvis singing, the very relevant to 1977, 'Help Me'.

'Help Me' was only performed once on these Spring Tours, Felton was extremely lucky that the tape was running (despite a little recorded static)…. "Lord let me see where I fit into your master plan. I never thought I needed help before" A touching highlight.

Elvis announces, "Let's do something else, something fast" before launching into a fun 'Blue Suede Shoes ' that, along with the 'Jailhouse Rock' from Austin, TX, he really does seem to enjoy.

Ernst seems to have saved the best 8 songs for last or maybe Elvis has just warmed up (woken up?).

"Let's do Polk Salad or something dirty like that" says Elvis kicking the band into a very rare for 1977 'Polk Salad Annie'.

This 'Polk Salad' isn't a (truck) patch on the TTWII versions but it still rocks with Elvis in fine form. Crank up the volume and you'd wish you were there. The 'call & response' from the Sweet Inspirations works too. This puts the 'In Concert' shows to shame. CBS was in the wrong place at the wrong time. - Even better of course would have been the December 1976 shows, which would have left us with a final TV show to be proud of.

'Big Boss Man' was a great song that Elvis kept in his shows and he seemed to enjoy himself at every concert with this one. At Duluth he kicked on with an extra chorus that obviously surprised the band - a nice touch. "That's all" he laughs.

'Fairytale' was always an interesting choice of song for Elvis (he listened to The Pointer Sisters!) and this version is fun and again an improvement on the 'In Concert' version. Elvis is in strong voice - "Sing the song baby"- and it has some nice work by the Sweet Inspirations again.

'Mystery Train/Tiger Man' has been a very rare bootlegged favourite (from Saginaw, the final show of the tour) - Elvis was never going to sing it again and it must have surprised the band too. Great to have it in such good quality and to hear Elvis having fun.

Finally three all-time classic songs take us out. Both 'Unchained Melody' and 'Little Darlin'' are the undubbed masters from Ann Arbor that were featured on Moody Blue but sound even better here. He says.. "If you don't mind I'd like to play the piano and do a song called Unchained Melody. I hope I can remember the chords" Ahh Elvis, we don't mind at all!!! Just beautiful, fragile - the magic of Elvis in 1977. A classic.

Hard to believe that Elvis followed this with the silly, funny fluff of 'Little Darlin' , but he did.

"I'd like to do a song that Frank Sinatra recorded called My Way " says Elvis and we know that the end is indeed near. The same brilliant version that was released on 'Platinum' but in context here which makes it sound even better. A fabulous end to another excellent FTD CD that, despite what others have said, captures Elvis sounding fine in 1977.

The real joy of this CD is that it isn't taken from soundboard recordings but Felton Jarvis' multitrack tapes and so gives us a beautiful clear mix and in great stereo. A fantastic leap in quality compared to the 'It's Midnight' soundboard. Definitely worth experiencing on headphones to get that full 'concert' feel.

23 songs are packed into 60 minutes which is definitely value for money however with 15 minutes spare on the CD I felt that some classic 'bonus' performances could have been added using their soundboard versions.

For instance the CD could have been rounded off with 'Hurt', a 1977 'You Gave Me A Mountain' (Alexandria?), the beautiful 'And I Love You So' (Kalamazoo?) and finishing with the essential 'Can't Help Falling in Love' from Alexandria - "Wise men know when it's time to go" . Just a thought!

Verdict: Of course Elvis' energy was running low by 1977, but this is a great improvement over the low-points of the previous year. This was a crucial period of Elvis' life that deserves to be released to true Elvis fans who will understand the importance of these final few months. Definitely a worthy addition to your collection - as long as you are buying it for the right reasons.

Elvis Presley Concerts Professionally Recorded Multi Track Stereo

CD

The sound quality is very good. It's among the best sounding Elvis live recordings, strictly from an audio point of view. Of course by the time, Elvis wasn't half the performer he used to be, so from a performance point of view, it's inferior to older recordings. But for the most part, the performances here are decent, although there is a 'been there, done that' feel to a lot of them.

Probably the most interesting recordings here are the undubbed versions of two of the songs that ended up on Elvis' last album ( Moody Blue ). The songs are Unchained Melody and Little Darlin' .

The one that sounds the most different is Unchained Melody , which apparently had quite a bit of overdubbing done on it. Here it is Elvis at the piano accompanied only by a guitarist.

While this isn't Elvis at his best, it should be of interest to Elvis' most devoted fans.

Spring Awakening

tour cd spring

It is Germany, 1891, a world where the grown-ups hold all the cards. The beautiful young Wendla explores the mysteries of her body and wonders aloud where babies come from... until Mama tells her to shut it and put on a proper dress. Elsewhere, the brilliant and fearless young Melchior interrupts a mind-numbing Latin drill to defend his buddy, Moritz – a boy so traumatized by puberty that he can't concentrate on anything... not that the Headmaster cares. He strikes them both and tells them to turn in their lesson. One afternoon, in a private place in the woods, Melchior and Wendla meet by accident and soon find within themselves a desire unlike anything they've ever felt. As they fumble their way into one another's arms, Moritz flounders and soon fails out of school. When even his one adult friend, Melchior's mother, ignores his plea for help, he is left so distraught that he can't hear the promise of life offered by his outcast friend, Ilse. Naturally, the Headmasters waste no time in pinning the "crime" of Moritz's suicide on Melchior to expel him. And soon, Mama learns that her little Wendla is pregnant. Now the young lovers must struggle against all odds to build a world together for their child.

This celebration of rebellion provides the perfect opportunity to feature performers of all types, as well as the creative flexibility with the use of costumes, set pieces and lighting. Featuring a pop rock score, this is an ideal show for talented vocalists with strong acting abilities. Join this group of late nineteenth century German students on their passage as the navigate teenage self-discovery and coming of age anxiety in a powerful celebration of youth and rebellion in the daring, remarkable Spring Awakening.

Questions & Answers

Using performance recording for rehearsals.

We are seriously looking at "Spring Awakening" for our spring 2020 musical. However, we do not have an accompanist for every rehearsal, and in the past have relied on RehearseScore to fill in those rehearsals. Is it possible to rent the Performance Recording for those purposes? We will have a live pit orchestra for the dress rehearsals/performances.

Shellac Announce First New Album in a Decade

Ahead of her Indy tour stop this year, Taylor Swift releases her eleventh studio album

tour cd spring

Are you ready for it?

Ahead of her concert later this year in Indy, Taylor Swift released her highly-anticipated eleventh studio album "The Tortured Poets Department" on Friday.

Still no word on "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" though (sorry, Swifties).

Here's what we know about her new album.

When does 'The Tortured Poets Department' release?

Swift's newest album, "The Tortured Poets Department" dropped at midnight on April 19. Then at 2 a.m. she released a deluxe version of the album, "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology."

How manys songs are in 'The Tortured Poets Department'?

The original album consists of 16 songs, with four additional bonus tracks that were advertised as only available on certain vinyls or CDs. Each vinyl or CD variant includes a different one of the bonus tracks.

Making bonus tracks only available on physical copies and releasing them on streaming later is becoming a more common practice.

Swift did this with her previous album "Midnights" where the bonus track "You're Losing Me" was only available on a few CDs sold at live shows. Olivia Rodrigo recently released a deluxe version of her sophomore album "Guts," which includes all four of the bonus tracks that were originally only available on certain vinyl pressings, plus one new song.

Swift moved much quicker than that for this album.

By releasing the deluxe version of the album on streaming at 2 a.m., only two hours after the original dropped, 15 extra tracks, including the bonus tracks only on vinyl and cd, became available to stream.

So now all bonus tracks for this album are available on streaming, but not all the deluxe songs have physical copies (that we know of, yet).

When did Taylor Swift announce 'The Tortured Poets Department'?

At the Grammy Awards on Feb. 4, while accepting the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for her previous album "Midnights," Swift announced her next project, another album titled "The Tortured Poets Department."

She has been teasing fans with track titles, lyrics, videos , Apple Music playlists , and even a pop-up art installation in Los Angeles with Spotify leading up to the release.

Will 'The Tortured Poets Department' be in the Eras Tour?

It is still unsure whether or not the remaining shows on her current tour, the Eras Tour, will be updated to include songs from her newest album.

She begins the European leg of her tour on May 9 in Paris, France, making it the first concert date after the release of "The Tortured Poets Department." Fans will have to wait and see if the album gets a more permanent spot in the show's setlist beyond being played during the surprise song segment.

When is Taylor Swift coming to Indy?

Taylor Swift announced in August she is bringing her "Eras Tour" to Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium for three nights, Nov. 1, 2 and 3.

Taylor Swift Indianapolis: ‘Stay Stay Stay’ at one of these hotels within a mile of the Eras Tour concert

How to get Taylor Swift tickets for Indianapolis?

You may still have a chance to see the Eras Tour in November.

Ticket sales through Ticketmaster are officially over, however, several marked-up tickets are still available for the Indianapolis shows on re-selling sites like StubHub and SeatGeek .

If you're still hoping to get tickets, they may be costly. Most tickets are priced are anywhere from $1,500 to almost $3,000 each, and the cheapest tickets are for seats near the top of the bowl.

Taylor Swift reveals double album in '2 a.m. surprise'. Here are the best fan reactions

The day all Swifties have been waiting for has finally arrived. Taylor Swift's 15th album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," dropped at 11 p.m. CST Thursday night.

Swift, chairman of the "Tortured Poets Department," did not disappoint.

People are also reading: When does 'Tortured Poets Department' come out? What we know about Taylor Swift's new album

'It's a 2 a.m. surprise'

The Eras Tour singer barely gave fans time to process TTPD before releasing an additional 15 songs under "TTPD: The Anthology."

"It's a 2 a.m. surprise," Swift wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. The double album's new tracks went live at 1 a.m. CST early Friday morning.

The secret double album's new tracks include:

  • "The Black Dog"
  • "imgonnagetyouback"
  • "The Albatross"
  • "Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus"
  • "How Did It End?"
  • "So High School"
  • "I Hate It Here"
  • "thanK you aiMee"
  • "I Look in People's Windows"
  • "The Prophecy"
  • "Cassandra"
  • "The Bolter"
  • "The Manuscript"

The Eras Tour singer joined Threads at midnight, which shares parent company Meta with Facebook and Instagram.

As part of the week leading up to the announcement, Swift worked behind the scenes with Threads to create a countdown when users pulled down on her Instagram page. The interface connected them to pre-follow the singer. At the stroke of 12 a.m., a new pull-down countdown revealed two hours.

TTPD's track titles are brutal. Fans speculated the album was about Swift’s six-year relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn and their breakup. Both stars kept the relationship out of the public eye. The back of the first version of the album reads, “I love you, it’s ruining me,” serving as a dagger-to-the-chest harbinger.

Swifties react to 'Tortured Poets Department'

Swift's double album reveal had fans reacting in all caps − the social media version of screaming.

"YOU ARE LITERALLY A GENIUS AND MY WORST NIGHTMARE AT THE SAME TIME I LOVE YOU," one user wrote on X .

"TAYLOR WE STILL HAVEN’T RECOVERED FROM THE FIRST ONE," another said .

Swifties are already busy making connections between some "TTPD" lyrics and lyrics in previous albums.

Gunna Covers XXL Magazine’s Spring 2024 Issue

Since  Gunna 's release from jail in late 2022, after being arrested as part of the Young Thug YSL RICO case earlier that year, the Atlanta rapper has become one of hip-hop's most polarizing figures. Some rap fans have accused Gunna of being a snitch in regards to Young Thug, who was also taken into custody and is currently on trial , while others continue to praise Gunna's artistry. The division hasn't affected his star power, which has only continued to soar in the wake of it all with hit songs like "F*kumean," and a critically acclaimed album, A Gift & A Curse . Gunna opens up about the highs and the lows of life post-incarceration in a candid interview for  XXL  magazine's Spring 2024 issue.

The 30-year-old rhymer has undergone both a physical and mental transformation as a free man. "I work out six days a week," Gunna tells XXL . "I eat better. I eat clean. And that's something I’m disciplining myself to do every day." He also reveals that complaints or worries are far from his mind. He's got more important matters like his upcoming fifth album, One of Wun , to focus on. Gunna opens up about what to expect from the forthcoming project.

While he's in a better space these days, everyone wants to know if Gunna is aware of the chatter around his name and snitching accusations. Gunna addresses if he sees what the people are saying about him. He also has a response for artists like  Lil Durk , 21 Savage and Lil Baby , among others, who have either commented about him being a snitch or alluded to it in songs or on social media posts. One thing he's firm on: Gunna believes people are being misled.

In addition to his cover story interview, Gunna welcomes XXL into his rehearsals for The Bittersweet Tour. He performs parts of his songs "Back At It" and the fitting track "Bittersweet." Go behind the scenes of his cover shoot, which you can view below.

The Winter 2023 issue of  XXL  magazine featuring Gunna on the cover is on newsstands now. The issue also includes conversations with Metro Boomin , comedian Druski , Danny Brown , Teezo Touchdown , 42 Dugg , Jim Jones and Maino a.k.a. Lobby Boyz, That Mexican OT , 41 , BabyDrill , Rapsody , actress La La Anthony, BigXthaPlug , Rob49 , Reuben Vincent , singer Tyla and producer Tate Kobang . There's also a look at how social networking has a chokehold on rappers' feelings, the ways in which kid rappers are thriving thanks to social media and thoughts from music executives throughout the industry on how hip-hop in 2024 is experiencing more wins than losses compared to last year.

Miles Russell is 15. He sets Korn Ferry Tour record as the youngest player to make the cut

  • Copy Link copied

LONGWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Miles Russell became the youngest player to make the cut in the 35-year history of the Korn Ferry Tour when the 15-year-old posted a 5-under 66 Friday in the Lecom Suncoast Classic.

Russell opened with a 68 and left little doubt he would be sticking around all four days. He made a pair of eagles on the front nine, one of them on the 282-yard, par-4 fourth hole, and then began the back nine with two straight birdies.

He goes into the weekend six shots out of the lead.

Russell is a high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who has been taking online classes since the eighth grade.

The left-hander already is piling up some impressive credentials. He was the American Junior Golf Association player of the year in 2023, which included his seven-shot win in the Junior PGA Championship and becoming the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.

Last month he nearly qualified for a PGA Tour event, losing out in a playoff in a Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open. The Korn Ferry Tour is the PGA Tour’s top developmental circuit.

Guan Tianlang of China remains the youngest to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He was 14 when he made the cut in the 2013 Masters, playing as the Asia-Pacific Amateur champion.

In a way, SPRING TOURS '77 makes up for another 1977 live record, ELVIS IN CONCERT, which was taped a few months later for a CBS TV special, which was nearly a disaster.
