Recorrer el lago de Como en barco es sin duda una de las cosas que hacer para descubrir las maravillas y los paisajes del lago en poco tiempo, con experiencias que pueden durar desde una hora a todo el día.

Los meses ideales de Como son la primavera, junio y julio. Agosto es un mes concurrido aunque menos en la semana final. De todas formas, la zona es bella todo el año, con las hojas marrones del otoño en los árboles o los picos nevados en invierno.

Walking tour of the historical centre of Como: from Porta Torre in Villa Olmo

The perfect itinerary for those unwilling to miss the most important sites in the old city centre of Como.

Como is a gorgeous Lombard city located on the Lake that gives it unmatched natural scenery, making it an international tourist attraction.

The beauty and fame of this Lakeside Town is also given by the presence of numerous villages along the banks of the Lake, pleasant places and only known worldwide. The city centre, located right on the Lakeside, is rich in monuments, churches, squares, in a mix of art, culture and history that make it really interesting as well as beautiful to look at.

Walking through the numerous streets, lined with shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars, you can get glimpses of the city really picturesque and, enhance to fully appreciate every aspect.

Among the most significant sites, there are some that are absolutely essential if you go to Como.

The following is proposed a route to be made on foot or from Porta Torre goes up to Villa Olmo, not forgetting the most important places in the Lakeside Town.

PORTA TORRE

The historical core of the city still has the look of the original Roman Fort, with well preserved medieval walls and large watchtowers, as the port Tower, Tower Gattoni and San Vitale.

Porta Torre, also called Torre di Porta Vittoria, is an imposing fortress, 40 meters high and built in 1192 to defend the entrance to the city.

It is one of the most interesting examples, in Italy, of military architecture of Romanesque tradition. The square Tower from the inside — the one facing the city, presents four storey, arcaded coupled that fit four Interior floors were destroyed.

Starting from Porta Torre you enter the historical centre of the city being able to grasp right away its beauty. Walking through the streets and the different shops is the first square.

PIAZZA SAN FEDELE

This square owes its name to the Basilica San Fedele, an important place of Catholic worship dedicated to the homonymous saint. The church is located in the place where before there was a paleochristian church dating back to the seventh century dedicated to Santa Eufemia, while the current one dates back to 1120. The façade of the basilica is in neo-Romanesque style, while the interior has a Latin cross plan divided into three naves of four bays each and high galleries.

At the center of the square there are often stalls selling products of various kinds.

Proceeding through the center you then reach the main square, Piazza Duomo.

PIAZZA DUOMO

Piazza Duomo is the most important square in the city of Como thanks to the presence of the Cathedral, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

The Cathedral is 87 meters long and 75 meters high and has a Latin cross plan with three naves and a transept surmounted by an imposing dome. The facade is aligned with the Broletto and the civic tower.

In the square there are numerous very nice restaurants and bars.

Behind the Duomo there is the renowned Como Social Theater, dating back to 1813, which has hosted world famous artists and offers high quality shows.

PIAZZA CAVOUR E PIAZZA VOLTA

Proceeding in the direction of the lake we arrive at the third large square that directly overlooks the lake, Piazza Cavour.

This is home to numerous events and initiatives.

At a distance of 150 meters is Piazza Volta, full of restaurants and bars, and some of these liven up even in the evening, making the square a popular destination for Como youth.

VOLTA TEMPLE AND WAR MEMORIAL

Walking towards the lake, take the pedestrian path that joins the lake until you get to Villa Olmo.

It ‘a pleasant and relaxing walk that allows you to have a frontal view of the city of Como and a moment of detachment from life and the city movement.

Along the promenade you come across the Temple Voltiano, a small scientific museum inaugurated in 1928 on the project of architect Federico Frigerio on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta.

In front of the Temple there is a bar that in summer livens up the Como nightlife and a large lawn, always well cared for.

A little further on stands the War Memorial.

It is an imposing 30 meter high tower with large open windows. Above the base stands a monolith of granite Alzo weighing 40 tons engraved with the names of the 650 fallen soldier of Como in the First World War.

The monument, created by Giuseppe Terragni, is inspired by a sketch painted in 1914 by the futurist Antonio Sant’Elia, with whom he imagined a hydroelectric plant.

Proceeding along the path along the lake, you pass a series of sumptuous villas until you reach the most famous and well known: Villa Olmo.

The imposing villa in neoclassical style is the final stage of this itinerary in the center of the city of Como.

In my opinion, the best Pizza in Lecco. (Update 2023: They’ve just opened a second Soqquadro restaurant in Malgrate, but with much higher prices for the lake view location).
• Corte Fiorina – A small selection of lovely pasta, fish, and meat dishes. Try the homemade lake fish Ravioli or the Risotto with asparagus and local taleggio cheese.
• Crotto del Capraio (Civate) – As authentic as you can get. A charming, family-owned cottage located on a perfect spot on the foot of a beautiful hiking path in Civate, serving traditional local dishes. Treat yourself to a hearty meal after a beautiful hike.
• Herba Monstrum – For Burgers and Beer (with amazing Vegan Burger variations) in a hip backyard.
• Filet Bistrot –For Lunch, Aperitivo or simply a glass of wine any time of the day in a tiny alley
• La Capri – The second-oldest Pizzeria in Lecco with a nice location close to the lake. Always a good choice.
• Baba Du Lac (Abbadia Lariana) – A somewhat hidden, but beautiful sea view terrace in Abbadia Lariana.

• Pizzeria Napule – Yummy, Neapolitan-style pizza with thin dough but a fluffy crust. Loved by locals for their untouristy prices.
• Al Borgo Antico City – Tucked in a backyard that you may miss if you don’t know it, this is a real hidden gem in Lake Como. The smell of the fresh pizza makes your mouth water already when walking into the courtyard.

• Gelateria Toldo – Creamy homemade ice cream variations with lots of vegan options. Your waffle is held under the chocolate fountain before you can start feasting. My favorite is Gianduia Lampone (nougat raspberry).

• Monte Barro – A beautiful and not too difficult hike starting from a parking lot in Malgrate . From the top, you have a stunning view across several lakes.
• Sentiero del Viandante – Half up the hills, there is a beautiful path all the way along the east coast from Abbadia Lariana up until Colico. You can pick a part, e.g. 12 km from Abbadia to Lierna. Here you can experience the beauty of the pristine Lake Como while walking through mountain villages, and catch scenic views. Perfect lunch spots are Osteria Sali e Tabacchi and La Zia Berta Agriturismo (at the latter you have to reserve ahead of time).
• Piani d’Erna – Up here you’re rewarded with a beautiful view on Lecco and the lake. If you feel lazy, you can also reach the plateau under the summit of the mountain Resegone by cable car. Or you can hike up and get down by cable car.
• Sasso di Preguda – In only 1.5 hours you can hike up from Malgrate to Chiesetta di Sant’Isidoro, where you’re rewarded with a fantastic view of Lago di Lecco. If you’re in the mood for more, you can continue up to Mount Moregallo. Park here and follow the signs to “Preguda”. Afterwards, stop at the eco farm Agriturismo Cascina Don Guanella for lunch or visit their organic shop.
• Rifugio Ristorante Martina – It’s rather a 30-minute walk instead of a hike, but you can get a beautiful view on both sides of the lake without much effort. You can drive quite far up and park your car here .
• Mount Resegone with beer tasting – Hiking fans looking for more unusual things to do in Lake Como may like the idea of combining a craft beer tasting with a guided hike to Resegone from where you can watch the spectacular sunset.

• Punta Grumo in Lierna – Definitely my favorite beach on Lake Como. A clean beach with some gravel or grass to lay down on. During the summer months, the highlight on this beach is a local guy selling homemade ice cream and refreshing Granita from his carriage.
• Abbadia Lariana – A nice pebbly beach with a lawn for sunbathing where the sun stays until late in the evening.
• Onno – A pretty beach between Lecco and Bellagio. Be aware, that here the sun leaves around 3 or 4 p.m.
• Pradello – Right next to Lido di Orse you can find this small free beach – a real hidden gem in Lake Como mostly visited by locals. You can ride a bike or rollerblade along the lakeside path from Lecco do reach it, or even walk (it’s around 2km).
• Lido di Orso – A catered beach on Lake Como if you prefer renting sunbeds on which you can sip some drinks. But you have to pay to enter.

• Risotto del Pesce Persico – a risotto with local perch
• Pizzoccheri alla Valtellina – A rich, tasty dish with buckwheat Tagliatelle with lots of cheese (of course), potatoes, and cabbage
• Polenta Taragna – A blend of Polenta (yellow corn) made with buckwheat and cheese, traditionally prepared in a copper pan
• Gnocchi Chiavennaschi – A creamy, cheesy Gnocchi dish made with local cheese (of course!)
• Sciatt – Crispy cheeseballs (buckwheat fritters with a cheese filling) which are a popular starter
• Piadine – Originally from the Emiglia Romana region, you can find these delicious, filled flatbread all around Lake Como as well.

Great post! So much great information. Any restaurant recommendations in Varenna or Gravedona?

Thanks Lauren! A very authentic restaurant with an amazing view near Varenna is Crotto die Biosio. But you need a car to get there. I haven’t been to Gravedona yet, so I’m afraid I can’t give any recommendations for this area.

Would love any tips about dining with kids in the area (6 & 4) and anything specific you’d recommend (or recommend to avoid!). We’re staying in Nesso with a car and really appreciate your guide!!!

While I’m not super familiar with the area around Nesso, I can recommend Trattoria Baita Belvedere (near Bellagio) – the views from up there are incredible! In Como, which is also not far from Nesso, you should check out Il Pomodorino for awesome Pizza in a cute backyard :) Enjoy your time in Nesso!

Amazing post thanks! We’ll be going next month but are bringing our little dog with us, anything you can recommend to do that’s a fun activity but allows dogs? We’re staying close to Dervio by the way, very happy we chose the non-touristy side of Lake Como :-)

Hey Margot, sounds like a great plan. I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time with your little dog around Lake Como! There are many outdoor activities that you can do with your dog. I often see dogs over there, e.g. bring it on hikes (even lighter ones such as the Sentiero del Viandante, or up to Monte Croce di Muggio which is not far from Dervio). Orrido di Bellano is also not far and can easily be visited with a dog. And you can also bring your dog to the beach (I’ve seen dogs at Punta Grumo in Lierna, but there are also some around Dervio). By the way: On boats (traghettos) only small dogs are allowed. I don’t know the exact requirements, but you could check if your dog is ok to come in Varenna at the dock. Enjoy your trip!

I think all up I had about twenty minutes to wade out into the water and fall under her spell. Thanks for your guide and tips, Jill. We went to Varenna in the early 2000’s on the advice of a well known American travel writer, Rick Steves, and stayed at the hotel at the ferry there called Hotel Olivedo for a few days. Laura was the owner and host. It is an institution! She’s since retired, but we ate there about 2 years ago and it’s still lovely. As is the beautiful Pescallo one gets to by walking over the small hill down a cobblestone road from Bellagio. Just gorgeous. I’ve always wanted to stay there. My sister now has her own house in Lezzeno but my wife and I are visiting in September and we might spend a few days on our own at tge end of the trip in the area, possibly Pescallo, or maybe even Lecco as you suggest? Grazie mille.

3. Modalità di trattamento

Detti soggetti tratteranno i dati nella loro qualità di autonomi titolari del trattamento. I Suoi dati non saranno diffusi.

In the summer and during holidays there may be considerable traffic and therefore there may be queues at the ticket offices. The ticket offices of the main towns are located near the docks. If you embark from a port without a ticket office service on land, you can buy your ticket on board without any additional cost. Disabled people can always buy the ticket on board without extra charge.

Pay attention! During the embarking, pay always attention to the onboard and ashore staff. At the dock it is possible to find more than a motorship: pay attention to the information given by the staff, not to miss any connection or board on the wrong motorship. Our staff is at your disposal for any doubt you might have. Due to bad weather or strong wave motion, routes may be suspended: to have any update, it is possible to ask the ticket offices or the freephone 800-551801(valid only in Italy).

De Comboio e Barco

Existem comboios diretos entre a estação de comboios Milano Cadorna e a estação Como Lago (por norma de 30 em 30 minutos), sendo que a viagem demora sensivelmente uma hora.

Uma vez na cidade de Como, pode apanhar um barco lento para visitar Bellagio e Varenna, dois dos vilarejos mais bonitos do Lago de Como.

Para regressar a Milão, pode apanhar o comboio da estação Varenna Esino para a estação Milano Centrale. Por norma, sai um comboio direto uma vez por hora, sendo que a viagem demora aproximadamente 1h 20min.

Contudo, a enorme procura nos meses de verão traduz-se em preços elevados nos alojamentos e demais serviços turísticos, que, mesmo fora da época alta, já não são propriamente conhecidos por serem muito económicos. Mas vá a contar com chuva e muito frio e tenha em atenção que as famosas Villas do Lago de Como só se encontram abertas a visitas entre março e novembro e que algumas das infraestruturas turísticas (como sejam hotéis, lojas e restaurantes) também encerram durante a época baixa.

Contudo, se o dinheiro não for um problema, nada bate ficar a dormir em Bellagio, uma das localidades mais famosas e apaixonantes do Lago de Como. Os preços são consideravelmente mais elevados, mas o charme de Bellagio vale cada euro investido.

Mas antes, queremos alertar que o nosso roteiro de 2 dia para visitar o Lago de Como foi desenhado partindo do pressuposto de que irá alugar carro. Roteiro para visitar o Lago de Como: Dia 1

Posto isto, os locais que consideramos de visita obrigatória e as experiências a não perder na cidade de Como são as seguintes:

• Atravessar a Porta Torre , a principal torre medieval da cidade, e deambular pelas estreitas ruelas empedradas do centro histórico de Como.
• Visitar a Catedral de Santa Maria Assunta , o ex-libris da cidade, uma das catedrais góticas mais bonitas do norte da Itália.
• Basilica di San Fedele , uma igreja de estilo românico construída no século XII.

Comece a sua visita na Piazza Castello , a principal praça de Nesso, de onde poderá desfrutar de uma linda vista aérea sobre o Desfiladeiro de Nesso e o Lago de Como. De seguida desça as ruelas empedradas até à Ponte Românica della Civera , o melhor local para admirar o desfiladeiro e a sua fotogénica cascata com quase 200 metros de altura. Parece um cenário recortado de um livro de fantasias!

Para além da sua beleza arquitetónica, Bellagio fica idilicamente localizado na ponta da península onde se encontram os três braços dispostos em Y do Lago de Como ( Punta Spartivento ), o que se traduz em deslumbrantes vistas panorâmicas.

Para além do incontornável passeio pela marginal que ladeia o Lago de Como até ao Punta Spartivento, os outros locais e experiências a não perder em Bellagio são as seguintes:

• Piazza della Chiesa , o epicentro de Bellagio, onde se encontra a monumental Basilica di San Giacomo .
• Passear pelas ruelas empedradas do centro histórico de Bellagio, não deixando de passar pela Via Giuseppe Garibaldi , a sua principal artéria, e a fotogénica rua Salita Serbelloni .
• Visitar a Villa Melzi , outra das villas imperdíveis do Lago de Como, rodeada de magníficos jardins com vista para o lago.
• Degustar um risotto de perca frita, uma das especialidades de Bellagio, de preferência acompanhado por um bom vinho branco da Lombardia.

Roteiro para visitar o Lago de Como: Dia 2

Comece o segundo dia do seu roteiro para visitar o Lago de Como apanhando o ferry entre Bellagio de Varenna (transporta carros), a maneira mais rápida e cénica de chegar a outro dos povoados de visita obrigatória numa viagem ao Lago de Como.

Caso não pretenda apanhar o ferry, pode chegar a Varenna percorrendo a estrada que percorre a margem leste do lago. Se assim for, sugerimos que faça uma breve paragem na cidade de Lecco , que fica localizada no extremo do braço oriental do Lago de Como, com uma imponente montanha a fazer o papel de guarda-costas. Para além de desfrutar do seu maravilhoso enquadramento paisagístico, dê um saltinho à animada Piazza XX Settembre e visite a histórica Basilica di San Nicolò .

• Piazza San Giorgio , a principal praça de Varenna, onde irá encontrar vários aprazíveis cafés e restaurantes com vistas panorâmicas sobre o lago e a magnífica Igreja de San Giorgio , construída em estilo românico e gótico.
• Visitar o Jardim Botânico da Villa Monastero , o ex-libris de Varenna, que se estende ao longo de 2 km ao longo das margens do lago. Tenha em atenção que só se encontra aberto entre março e novembro, ou seja, se visitar o Lago de Como durante a época baixa, terá de o retirar do seu roteiro.
• Subir ao altaneiro Castello di Vezio , uma fortaleza medieval, de onde poderá desfrutar de vistas de cortar a respiração sobre o Lago de Como. Vale cada gotinha de suor!
• Percorrer a Passeggiata degli Innamorati (Caminhada dos Enamorados), um dos passeios mais românticos ao longo do Lago de Como. Pelo caminho, irá passar pela fotogénica baía Riva Grande , na qual encontra vários cafés e gelatarias, perfeitos para repor energias.

Uma vez em Menaggio recomendamos as seguintes visitas e atividades:

• Piazza Garibaldi , o coração de Menaggio, pejada de irresistíveis cafés, restaurantes e gelatarias com lindas vistas sobre o lago.
• Percorrer a Via Calvi , a principal artéria comercial de Menaggio, ao longo da qual irá encontrar pequenas boutiques e lojas de artesãos, que vendem produtos locais.
• Visitar a Igreja de Santa Marta , com sua importante fachada neogótica, e a Igreja de Santo Stefano , que serve de pano de fundo para a animada Via Calvi.
• Passear ao longo do Viale Benedetto Castelli , uma das mais belas marginais do Lago de Como, que @ vai brindar com vistas deslumbrantes. Se visitar o Lago de Como no verão, sugerimos que dê também um saltinho ao Lido di Menaggio , uma das praias mais populares do Lago de Como.

Uma das mais famosas é a Villa Carlota , uma vila de arquitetura neoclássica cercada por jardins botânicos que contém uma impressionante coleção de plantas exóticas e esculturas e vistas, sobre o lago e montanhas, de fazer o queixo cair.

The tour departs from the Como S.Agostino Docks, that you can easily reach by car, train, bus. We can also pick you up from other locations on the lake where there is an accessible docking pier.

There are several parking lots near the Como Docks where you can park your car: "Como Parcheggio Centro Lago" and "Autosilo Valduce" are the closest.

No, unfortunately, we can't carry luggage and the lake's navigation rules do not allow us to operate as a taxi service just to transport you to hotels or restaurants. We can only conduct tours.

Unfortunately, we can't. While the lake may appear small on maps, it is quite long to tour with a speedboat. As we depart from Como, touring the northern branch of the lake or the Lecco branch is not feasible due to speed boat fuel limits. However, we can assure you that the Como branch of the lake is spectacular to tour, encompasses all the most interesting attractions, and will surely amaze you.

Swimming is possible during some tours, depending on the weather conditions and the locations we visit. Please let us know if you're interested. Be aware that we do not provide towels for drying.

Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather and the possible wind. You may also want to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. You can also wear swimsuit, if you'd like.

A journey through a passion for the territory.

The company, based in Lecco , was founded by the passion of three entrepreneurs for their country of residence , with the common desire to enhance it and make it known to all.

Initially the company takes the name of “InformaLecco“, a portal that deals with tourism, with insights on routes, events that the Lecco’s territory offers, and of commercial scope, with a channel of visibility for the various activities in the sector .

In carrying out its initiatives, the Company places the needs of citizens, tourists and businesses at the centre of attention, offering increasingly complete and personalized services every day and showcases on which they can promote. Subsequently, in 2017, the company became “ Lake Como Tourism ”, expanding its range of interest, no longer dealing only with the province of Lecco but the entire territory of Lake Como , managing to reach a wider target.

In 2017 we decided to expand our services and started to organise tour packages and experiences in the Lake Como area. We realise high-level and private tours so that tourists can enjoy these experiences in maximum comfort.

Our first website was created in 2011. Over time it has evolved but has never lost sight of its mission: inform tourists and locals about what to do, see and visit on Lake Como, also giving space to commercial activities, the services they offer and events.
