PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VISIT TRENTINO

Now, I know the title of this article is a big claim – and perhaps Sicily has since taken my top spot – but Trentino as a region truly did blow me away. I fell in love with  Venice  multiple times many years ago, adored visiting  Cinque Terre  in the quieter winter months and have blissfully got lost in the likes of Rome, Florence, Tuscany and more recently,  Emilia Romagna .

But Trentino was something different entirely. Unlike cities like Milan or Rome, where you battle through crowds no matter what time of year, Trentino provides all the magic, passion and charm of Italy but with space to breathe, relax and rejuvenate. I returned from my visit to Trento, the perfectly sized capital of the region and the  lakes of Valsugana  feeling refreshed and utterly obsessed.

Let me tell you why Trentino is a region you need on your radar!

Trento

Trento is the perfect sized city break

The capital city of the region, Trento is a perfectly sized city break. It won’t exhaust you like a weekend in Rome, as there aren’t so many things to do in Trento . Yet, it still provides ample opportunity to experience the best of Italy; culture, art, food, more food and that relaxed vibe that makes Italy so unique.

The cobbled streets of the city were spotless, a far cry from some of the filthier areas of the larger Italian cities, while the impressive Buonconsiglio Castle, galleries and outside frescos provide enough culture without being overwhelming. Over a weekend I could walk the streets with no rush to be anywhere, turning down little alleyways, grabbing drinks in the main square under the impressive cathedral and just enjoy being in a city where the locals seemed as excited to be there as I did.

Watersport's are a huge part of Valsugana

Watersport lovers are spoilt

With intense winds throughout the year thanks to the mountain ranges and the numerous lakes throughout Trentino, it is a haven for water sports lovers. That said, the wind is not everywhere throughout the region and seems to be where you want it to be magically; fear not, it won’t affect lazy days sun lounging.

From stand up paddle boarding on  Lake Levico with Oz SUP  to water skiing with a world champion, the lazy to the adventurous can get their kick on the waters here. Kayaking, windsurfing, jet-skis; they all are easily accessible at one of the many lakes, especially in the Valusgana region.

Mountains full of hidden gems

Trentino is billed as the ‘sunny side of the Alps’ thanks to its great weather and the imposing ranges in the region. While the Dolomites are of course the most famous and majestic, the pre-alp mountains are less challenging to explore and also impressive.

Trentino makes full use of the spectacle of its mountains by hosting incredible concerts in the open-air spaces where classical musicians turn sunrises into breathtaking magic through their performances.

With a whole plethora of  events in Trentino  hosted in these mountains throughout the year, don’t be surprised to stumble upon some hidden gems as you venture to higher grounds.

Lakes that will blow your mind

Lake Garda might be the most famous of the Trentino regions lakes, and Garda is actually split between three different regions, with the northern tip, the best for watersports, being the part that is in Trentino.

Nearly 300 lakes make up Trentino, so you can easily find your perfect place to kick back and relax. From perfectly still reflections of towering mountains to wave-ridden waters for the adventurous, the lakes are the ideal place to escape to for a long weekend.

I was amazed to find out that numerous lakes had been awarded the blue flag award for beach and water quality, something I had assumed was just reserved for beautiful beaches. Once you see the clear cleanliness of the lakes and the families relaxing on the beachside shores though, you’ll quickly see why this region deserves these accolades. I stayed in the  Valsugana region  for my lake-side escape and it was the perfect getaway.

Valsugana

Monasteries in the mountains

A pretty unique reason to visit Trentino is the St Romedius Shrine. The fantastic hike up here, through overhanging cliffs that get higher and higher, will bring you to a dense forest, as you climb the final stairs the Shrine appears amongst the trees, its imposing design suddenly revealing itself.

The unique design of this Shrine is because it’s various parts come from different stages of history and are combined, with some of the relics dating back to the 12th century! It’s a beautiful area to continue hiking around, and with plenty of trees cover to keep you fresh.

Beautiful alpine reflections at Lake Tovel

Glacier lakes reflecting like mirrors

While the lakes of Valsugana are spectacular and fantastic for watersports, and the part of Lake Garda that belongs to Trentino the same, Lake Tovel is another reason to visit Trentino.

Located in the mountains, Lake Tovel is a bit of a detour, but if we’re being honest, that’s what makes road trips in Italy so rewarding. And it’s certainly more than worth it, as when you arrive at the water’s edge, you’ll feel like you have crossed to Canada.

If it’s flat and without wind, this near mirror-like lake – reflecting the alpine trees and with various shades of green and blue – is more than just a peaceful escape. Walk around it, or sleep in a lodge; however you visit, you’ll fall in love with the natural setting!

visit trentino card

Wine tasting with a special story

At  Cantina Romanese , you can enjoy a very special wine tasting, just a short drive from Lake Levico. In fact, some of their wines are actually aged in the lake, stored at the bottom for temperature control, and then scuba divers bring it back up when it is ready for consumption. Pretty amazing eh?

The vineyard and home are lovely, and the tasting will be fantastic, especially with Trento Doc, the local sparkling wine on the menu.

Secondly, it’s a family business continued by Andrea and Giorgio to honour the grapes and work of their father. One of their wines is named Gabriella, in honour of their mother, and the label of the wine is embossed with an image of her. Their grandfather sadly lost his sight before Gabriella was born, and so could never see what his daughter looked like – this bottle allows anyone with sight limitations to trace Gabriella and ‘see’ her through the design of the bottle — highly recommended!

Star gazing in Trentino

Star gazing in the mountains

The region of Trentino is celebrated for its stargazing, especially in the remote mountains where minimal light pollution exists.

There are also a few dedicated observatories across the region, like the snazzy silver Terrazza Delle Stelle which I visited. Inside, a huge telescope will help you not see just the stars and planets, but learn about them, although you’ll need to make arrangements to visit in advance with an official guide.

Castle in Trentino

Castle Hopping

There are plenty of castles across the Trentino region, especially in Valsgana and Val di Non. Some of the stand out ones for me include Castle Thun, which sits impressively with mountains in the background, and Castle Valer, surrounded by apple trees and still family-owned. In fact, when you book a visit, you might even have the count of the castle show you around personally.

Other worthy castles to mention are Castel Pergine, with its decadent restaurant, lovely internal gardens and the opportunity to stay the night, and Castel Ivano, where you can enjoy a wine tasting from the cellar of wine produced here.

Outside art with a twist in Salle Artee

Outside art with a twist in Salle Artee

An outside art exhibition which is at one with nature, the Salle Artee is another excellent reason to visit Trentino.

This beautiful space and gardens, decorated with carefully crafted artwork, from wood, metals and using trees and nature itself are split into two sections, and you can cycle here if you fancy it, and get between the two locations that way. E-bikes are preferred, given the mountain route!

Trento

Food and drink with a local twist

The food in Trentino, as in the whole country, is a good enough reason alone to visit this region. Italian traditional dishes are served up alongside local delicacies, many influenced by nearby Austria. Canederli are a type of bread dumpling, but more similar to gnocchi, which you shouldn’t miss and it goes without saying, GET ALL THE GELATO!

The region also has a vast range of craft beers and wines, with Ferrari being the most famous sparkling of them all but I took quite a fancy to the white wine of Müller which is a must try.

Buonconsiglio Castle

Art and architecture

No trip to Italy would be complete without indulging in your cultural side, and Trentino is no exception.

As well as the great galleries in Trento which have both modern, rotating collections and more traditional pieces, the streets of the city are littered with Frescos that make it feel like an outside museum.

Castles such as  Buonconsiglio Castle  in Trento which doubles up as an impressive art museum through to the ruins of Castello Arco, perched on a cliff, provide more refined architecture while the colourful facades of buildings, statues and fountains complete the Italian city architecture list.

Trento

Museums and attractions that aren’t boring

The  MUSE museum  in Trento takes you on a journey through the region and with interactive displays and a tropical rainforest this is a museum I could actually get excited about. I’m not a huge museum fan, but I spent hours here learning about DNA tests, extinct species, playing with displays that were likely for kids but helped me understand eco-systems in the mountains and marvel at the rainforest room which must feel like a sauna escape when the snow falls.

Of course, the galleries and castles I mentioned earlier fall into this list, but outside-attractions such as  L’Orrido di Ponte Alto , a recently reopened gorge and one of the oldest hydraulica powers in the world will mesmerise you from the ancient bridge before standing behind the sheer power of water as it tumbles down. Amazingly, this is also another of Trentino’s many captivating outside music performance spaces.

Admire the apples of Val di Non

Val di Non literally translates to the Valley of Nothing, but that’s a lie, as it is completely packed with apples! When we first arrived, I thought I was staring at vineyards, but the terraced hills are actually apples.

The Melinda Apple experience near Castle Thun deserves a look in, with the all-encompassing 360 video room showing an incredible overview of the underground caves inside the Dolomites. Now, these caves house apple storage all year round, using natures temperature cooling system. It was quite cool to see inside, although it’s only on exceptional occasions you can actually visit inside the cave storage system.

Boutique hotels with beautiful views

On my three visits to Trentino, I’ve never been disappointed with my accommodation. Clean, well-kept rooms with the environment in mind seem to be the norm here, but it’s the epic views that will have you hooked.

Hotel Viridis  is a fantastic place to stay in Val di Non, with most of the rooms and the restaurant overlooking mountains, river and green apple trees.

In Trento itself, the  Heart of Trento B&B  offers fantastic boutique rooms, with a roof terrace and hot tub, and an all-glass top floor lounge to admire the city from.

The incredible views at Hotel Vidris

Other notable places to stay are  Hotel Villa Degli Orti , which is in Borgo Valsugana, one of Italy’s most beautiful towns , a family-run small guesthouse with delightful rooms and a lovely view from the front, and  Hotel Margherita Rumo , high in the mountains and with a more Austrian style vibe, complete with a beautiful spa and a fantastic restaurant for Italian/Austrian style dishes.

For something really special, book a night in  Castel Pergine , and stay in an actual castle – what an awesome reason to visit Trentino. I hope you love it as much as I did!

Fresh mountain air hiking and cycling

One of the most exceptional things about Trentino for me was even in Trento the fresh mountain air was obvious. If you have lived in large cities, you’ll know the one, where you can smell something but you don’t know what it is, and then you realise it’s just what nature should smell like.

I think this is why the region is such a popular hiking and cycling escape for so many Dutch visitors who, I can only imagine haven’t been sharing it’s charm as they don’t want the secret out! Countless paths criss-cross the region for mountain bikers and extreme hikers through to gentle slopes and leisurely walks for those who want to take their Trentino weekend at a slower pace.

Wine tasting at the Azienda Agricola Fratelli Pisoni

Hiking and Wine Tasting between Lasino and Pergolese

A shady and pleasant hike through a forested area will take you from Lasino, up past a little historic church, and with great views over the valleys, before coming back down to be rewarded with more Trento Doc.

On the other side, you’ll find Azienda Agricola Fratelli Pisoni, where wine tastings can be enjoyed in the leafy garden, and nearby an agritourism if you fancy staying the night.

Trentino Guest Card

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that if you book more than two nights accommodation in Trentino with a partner hotel, the Trentino Guest Card is included in the price. Providing regional transport on the buses and trains, access to many attractions and discounts to a selection of businesses it can help to reduce the cost of your Trentino escape.

Seriously, I’m obsessed with this region and I know I have only just scratched the surface of it but if you want to know more about planning your trip, check out my articles on  Trento as a weekend getaway  or learn more about the  lakes of Valsugana . Trust me, Trentino is well worth a window on your busy travel schedule!

Hi Dan, loved you article. I’ve been in Trentino probably 16-17 times in my life. To me there is no other place to visit and to be. Of course it is The Land of my Heritage, Val di Non in particular, the place where most of my cousins live. I’ve noted my website where I have posted photos of Val di Non and several other areas. I am taking that site down in the next few months and I eventually will include those photos on my Facebook page Val di Non – Trentino.

Bob Leonardi

Hi Bob. It’s a fantastic region isn’t it, what a great place to have historic family roots with!

Great article. Last year I visited Florence and I was surprised about the city architecture and the nice people. Keep up the good work!

Imagine. The pleasure of enjoying nature at a slow pace. The beauty of reconnecting with the true sense of time, among woods, lakes, and valleys. Imagine finding well-being and balance, through a serene walk in the mountains, a swim in a pristine alpine lake or just relaxing in front of a sparkling glass of Trentodoc. This is Trentino: a mix of nature, culture, and traditions, in the heart of the Italian Alps, between the blue of Lake Garda and the grandeur of the Dolomites, a UNESCO heritage site.

Hello there Dan!

Expectation you’re acceptable during this insane time.

Simply needed to state the amount we appreciated this post on Trentino-not some place we’re excessively acquainted with. As sharp climbers we’re continually searching for an incredible end of the week escape out of London and this would be great. Nature, mansions and a cascade I see, every enormous tick in our book :)

Hi Dan! Hope you’re good during this crazy time. Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed this post on Trentino- not somewhere we’re overly familiar with. As keen hikers we’re always looking for a great weekend getaway out of London and this would be perfect. Nature, castles and a waterfall I see, all big ticks in our book :) Of course we’re currently weathering the pandemic in Sydney, but hey, it’s always good to have plans, especially when it comes to travel! We’ll definitely be keeping this one up our sleeve for when we return to the UK. So big thanks! Dan & Beck

Thanks so much Beck and Dan – It’s an awesome place to visit, you get the best of Italy but away from the crowds! Sydney certainly doesn’t sound the worst place to be, as things are slowly opening there a bit quicker than else where from what I’ve seen. Stay safe!

Hi Dan Was jus scrolling through your website. Got to explore many places! Once this COVID 19 gets over

Indeed, hopefully we get some normal soon!

It’s back by popular demand — Delta and American Express unveiled the next iteration of the limited-edition Boeing 747 Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card on the heels of the overwhelming response from Card Members when first launched in 2022 .

The new limited-edition cards are cloud-white in color and made from two Delta Boeing 747 aircraft 1 that were retired after more than 27 years of service and feature each plane’s history, including their first and last flights, tail number and number of miles flown.

The new limited-edition Delta SkyMiles Reserve Cards are cloud-white in color and made from two Delta Boeing 747 aircrafts that were retired after more than 27 years of service and feature each plane’s history, including their first and last flights, tail number and number of miles flown.

The card is available exclusively for new and existing Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business Card Members from April 25 through June 5, 2024, while supplies last. The new design comes after recent enhancements made to the Delta SkyMiles American Express Cards to improve the travel experience and deliver everyday value to Members, both in the air and on the ground.

“At Delta, innovation and experience are at the core of everything we do,” said Prashant Sharma, V.P. of Loyalty at Delta Air Lines. “Each card carries the legacy of countless journeys and embodies the spirit of exploration that drives our customers and all of us at Delta. When combined with the recently upgraded benefits, these cards provide a nod to our storied past and symbolize the elevated experiences our customers can expect in their future travels.”

In 2022, Delta and American Express launched the first iteration of the limited-edition Boeing Delta 747 Card design, one of the most iconic airplanes in aviation history. The new design is made with 33% metal from a retired Delta Boeing 747 plane and has a white glossy finish, which is inspired by clouds.

“We’re bringing back one of our most popular Card designs ever with a new look honoring the ‘Queen of the Skies,’” said Jon Gantman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cobrand Product Management at American Express. “Given the strong response from customers with our first Card design, we wanted to find another exciting opportunity for aviation enthusiasts and Card Members to have a piece of aviation history in their wallets.”

The Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business American Express Cards offer premium travel benefits for Delta loyalists, including an enhanced Companion Certificate each year after renewal 2 , an MQD Headstart that helps you get closer to Status, miles accelerators, access to exclusive reservations through Global Dining Access by Resy 3 , and more.

REAL ID deadline approaches. What it is, what you need to know in New York

visit trentino card

The clock is ticking: There's just about a year in which to get an enhanced or REAL ID, for which you will need to board a flight within the U.S., or enter certain federal buildings including military bases, unless you have a passport or another federally-accepted form of identification.

The deadline was extended previously, in part due to COVID, from May 3, 2023 to May 7, 2025 .

Why REAL ID?

It's the law. These requirements are the result of the REAL ID Act, which was passed by Congress in 2005 at the 9/11 Commission's suggestion that the federal government "set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses," according to the Department of Homeland Security .

The act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, will be prohibited after the deadline from accepting driver's licenses and ID cards that do not meet federal standards.

In New York, one can currently get an enhanced ID, a REAL ID, or a standard driver's license, but the standard license is not compliant with REAL ID laws.

"The good news is that you do not have to wait to get a REAL ID or enhanced ID," said Mark J.F. Schroeder, commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, in a news release . "You can get one now at your local DMV office. We urge all New Yorkers who want to travel within the US to act now ... We don’t want any customers caught by surprise when they go to travel after the deadline."

Enhanced vs. REAL IDs

Enhanced documents are federal REAL ID compliant, and feature an image of the U.S. flag on them. REAL IDs issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles have an image of a star on them.

Enhanced licenses include a radio frequency identification chip that allows authorities to see someone's biographic and biometric data at a border inspection booth from as far away as 30 feet. Those licenses also have a machine-readable zone or barcode that authorities can read electronically if the RFID chip system is not available.

The other main difference is enhanced IDs can be used to cross by land or sea the U.S border from Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries. This license can be used in lieu of a passport as an identity and citizenship document only in these instances; REAL IDs cannot. (Air travel to those nations will still require a passport .)

Enhanced IDs (either an enhanced driver's license or an enhanced non-driver ID card) also cost $30 more , in addition to the regular transaction fees.

REAL or enhanced IDs are not mandatory, and they are not necessary to be licensed to drive or vote.

What you need to secure a REAL ID

Getting either an enhanced or a REAL ID has more stringent requirements than getting a standard driver's license. One will need to prove both U.S. citizenship as well as New York state residency. Needed documents:

  • One proof of identity — this can be a current New York license, permit or non-driver ID card;
  • One proof of legal presence — a U.S. birth certificate, either an original or certified copy only, no hospital certificates;
  • Two proofs of New York state residency — this must show a full address, not a Post Office box. Acceptable are a New York license, permit or non-driver ID card; New York certificate of title; New York professional license; bank statement issued within the past year; utility bill from within the U.S. issued within the past year with name and address; credit card statement on letterhead, issued within the past year; or a property or school tax bill or receipt for the current year.
  • Proof of Social Security number (if one has been issued to you) — either a Social Security card or a current W2, paystub, 1099 or 1098 tax form showing the full number; and
  • Current driver's license if one is applying to exchange one issued by another state.

Additionally, if your name has changed since your birth certificate was issued, proof of the name change must be submitted, such as a marriage certificate (not church-issued), a court-issued name change decree, or a divorce decree that states the previous name.

What's not accepted ? Commemorative Social Security cards (usually metal, needs to be original document); Medicare cards; Social Security stubs; hospital-issued birth certificates (must be from municipality where born); church-issued marriage certificate; medical bills; and college admission letters are not valid for ID verification purposes.

Story continues after gallery.

Which ID is right for me?

The Department of Motor Vehicles has a comparison chart of the features of a standard (current), enhanced and REAL ID card. The following questions will also help in making a determination:

  • Do you want to use your license (ID) to board a domestic flight?
  • Do you want to use your ID to enter a federal building or military base?
  • Do you want to use your ID to cross into the U.S., whether by land or sea, from Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean?

Don't need or want a REAL ID?

Regardless of whether you get a standard, enhanced, or REAL ID driver's license, you will need proof of citizenship, residency and name, coming up with a value of at least "six points" in some combination to satisfy Department of Motor Vehicles requirements . The DMV has an online document guide and will walk you through what is needed .

Wide Range of NFL Draft Grades for Packers In National Report Cards

In a look at 13 national draft grades, the Green Bay Packers received some sort of a B in 12. Here is what the experts are saying.

  • Author: Bill Huber

In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – In final 2024 NFL Draft report cards, the national pundits largely liked the Green Bay Packers’ 11-man draft class.

In this review of 13 report cards, the Packers received some version of a B in 12. However, there was a strong deviation. In one set of draft grades, the Packers ranked 10th. In two others, they were next-to-last.

Click on the links for the full breakdowns.

Sports Illustrated: B-plus

Matt Verderame handed out 10 A’s, so the Packers ranked above-average .

His team breakdown included his upbeat thoughts on first-round pick Jordan Morgan.

“Morgan was beloved by a few teams with coaches from the Kyle Shanahan tree thanks to his movement ability, which should really shine in the Packers’ outside zone system. With some proper coaching—and Green Bay has an excellent offensive line staff—Morgan could end up being one of the best tackles in this draft class.”

Pro Football Focus: B-plus

The B-plus sounds good until you realize PFF handed out 13 A’s.

There are breakdowns of all picks to dig into. The last was seventh-round cornerback Kalen King: “King was once pegged as a potential first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. He struggled in 2023, earning a 60.3 PFF grade that ranked 308th among FBS cornerbacks. However, he recorded an 89.0 PFF grade in 2022, good for sixth at his position. He’s shown he’s fully capable in pass coverage and is a solid value pick here for Green Bay.”

CBS Sports: B-plus

Chris Trapasso called general manager Brian Gutekunst his “spirit animal.” Trapasso liked the last five picks – Jacob Monk and Kitan Oladapo got As – to lift the overall grade . Nine teams received an A, so the Packers were tied for 10th-best.

“Morgan was picked a tick early, while Cooper needs to improve in coverage but has freaky athleticism ranging to the football. Lloyd is the perfect add to Matt LaFleur's zone-blocking scheme because he's thick with elite burst and wiggle. (Evan) Williams is one of the most active safeties in the class, and Oladapo is a true specimen at the same position. Matchup with tight end type.”

USA Today: B-plus

Nate Davis ranked the Packers’ draft class 10th overall . He called the roster “increasingly bulletproof.”

“First-round OT Jordan Morgan (Arizona), second-round LB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M), second-round S Javon Bullard (Georgia) and third-round RB MarShawn Lloyd (USC) should all be cheaper, more effective upgrades for David Bakhtiari, De’Vondre Campbell, Darnell Savage and AJ Dillon.”

Washington Post: B-plus

Mark Maske liked how the Packers added to their talented young roster .

“They landed a pair of potential defensive contributors in Round 2 in linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and safety Javon Bullard. And they chose a third-round running back, MarShawn Lloyd, who could split carries with free agent newcomer Josh Jacobs after they released Aaron Jones. Adding Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt in the final round also was justified. Another team with a bigger need at QB probably should have done that sooner.”

Mel Kiper liked the top of the draft . With four A’s and five B-plus grades, the Packers were in a tie for 10th.

“If only every prediction in my mock drafts was as easy as Green Bay's this year. For months I've said the Packers needed to plug their void at left tackle in Round 1. …Jordan Morgan (25) was a stalwart on the blind side for Arizona who rarely missed an assignment. He blew up edge defenders in the run game and made them look silly in pass sets. He'll be a plug-and-play starter.”

Cooper and Bullard were the top players at their positions in Kiper’s rankings.

“I was all-in on the Packers after their first three picks, but the rest of this haul leaves me underwhelmed, especially on Day 3. Cooper and Bullard save it from a C+.”

Chad Reuter gave the Packers a B on Thursday , a B on Friday and a B-minus on Saturday.

“Monk and Glover should provide depth on the offensive line, while Williams’ reliable tackling should make him a good special teams player. Trading a pick to move up for a second safety didn’t seem like the best value, though -- especially when you consider Green Bay took another safety just one round later.”

He did like the last picks, Pratt and King.

Fox Sports: B

The Packers “stock(ed) up” on safeties for new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, Carmen Vitali said.

“They got Xavier McKinney in a splash free agency signing but still drafted three more players at the position. Javon Bullard out of Georgia at No. 58 overall is excellent value. The other big splash was USC running back MarShawn Lloyd, who will go up against his college quarterback twice a year now. Throw in a couple of additional offensive linemen for depth/competition and you have a perfectly solid Green Bay draft.”

Bleacher Report: B

While there are some questions about Morgan, the second-round picks were hits and Lloyd will bring an “explosive” element to the backfield.

“ Gutekunst did a fine job of finding value on Day 3 , especially with the selection of Oregon State safety Kitan Oladapo. He was the 35th-ranked overall prospect on the B/R board. Michael Pratt is an interesting developmental quarterback who will provide some insurance behind Jordan Love. After watching numerous starting QBs go down in 2023, it was a sensible flier.

“Did Gutekunst get the most value with each of his selections? Probably not, but he did manage to address most of Green Bay's most notable needs.”

Charles McDonald said the Packers came out of the draft looking “pretty good.”

His favorite pick was Morgan. “He needs to add some strength for the NFL, but he’s a classic, pure pass-blocking left tackle that will always have a place in the league.” His least favorite was Cooper. In an interesting breakdown, his critique had nothing to do with Cooper or the pick itself. “His speed will give him a chance to be a playmaker from the jump.”

Associated Press: B

Rob Maadi said “OT Jordan Morgan (25) fills a need though they may have passed up more talented linemen,” but the Packers had an “outstanding Day 2.”

Pro Football Network: B-minus

While B-minus seems solid , only the Falcons received a worse grade.

“With a strong, ascending roster, the Packers had a larger margin for error in the 2024 NFL Draft,” Cam Mellor wrote. “But that doesn’t change the fact that a few of their picks were reaches on the value board or somewhat redundant with the personnel they’d already acquired.” Some “buy-low steals” late in the draft helped.

For extensive individual grades , Bullard and Pratt received A’s and King was an A-minus. Glover got a B-plus.

“The Packers managed to turn seventh-round pick Rasheed Walker into a quality NFL starter at left tackle,” Ian Cummings wrote. “They’ve proven their mettle with drafting and developing, so seeing them take a traits-rich tackle like Travis Glover is notable. Glover has all of the measurements at 6’6”, 317 pounds, with near-35” arms, and as a late call-up at the Senior Bowl, he put his impressive take-on strength, competitive edge, and finisher mentality on display.”

The Ringer: C

Finally, some deviation. Only one team had a worse draft than the Packers , according to Danny Kelly.

The Packers “hit for contact” but there might not have been any home runs. “The team grabbed a versatile lineman in Jordan Morgan in the first round, giving the team flexibility at both tackle and guard. They nabbed an explosive, rangy linebacker in Edgerrin Cooper in the second round and then picked a versatile safety/nickelback in Javon Bullard in the third ... I’m a fan of USC running back MarShawn Lloyd, who will play behind Josh Jacobs but could compete for snaps with A.J. Dillon in year one.”

Yes, draft grades are a moronic exercise. And you might call me a moron for, A, writing this and, B, for some of the grades of the #Packers ' 11 draft picks. ⬇️ https://t.co/eq4yb4cDC4 — Bill Huber (@BillHuberNFL) April 28, 2024

To redeem Delta gift cards, SkyMiles members can activate them on the airline’s website or by calling 1-800-225-1366. Gift cards never expire, but they’re only valid for Delta flights or Delta Vacations packages and can’t be used for ancillary expenses like baggage and upgrade fees.  Delta and Starbucks launched a unique partnership in late 2022, allowing SkyMiles members who link their accounts here first to earn 1 mile per dollar spent at the popular coffee chain. Travelers will also earn double Starbucks Stars when flying Delta on the same day, making those airport coffee runs more rewarding than ever.   The airline has a number of other partnerships where members can take advantage of earning even more miles. Delta SkyMiles members can earn miles on car rentals on Turo , reservations with Airbnb , and more.  Earlier this month, Delta launched a new, limited-time promotion with Hilton . Members who register for the deal by Monday, May 6, can earn 1,000 SkyMiles per Hilton hotel stay. However, travel must be completed by July 7 to earn up to a maximum of 3,000 miles.

Hong Kong transgender activist gets ID card reflecting gender change after yearslong legal battle

Activist Henry Tse, who won an appeal to change the gender on his ID card, poses with a mock ID card outside the immigration tower after receiving the new document in Hong Kong, Monday, April. 29, 2024.

HONG KONG — A  Hong Kong  transgender activist on Monday received a new ID card reflecting his gender change, after a yearslong legal battle to change the document, and he vowed to continue working for equality for the LGBTQ community.

Henry Tse won his appeal over the government’s refusal to change the gender on his ID card in February 2023. Previously,  Tse was not able to make the change  because he did not undergo full gender-affirmation surgery.

Last year, the city’s top court said the government’s policy was unconstitutional in a  landmark ruling , arguing it imposed an unacceptably harsh burden. The judgment prompted an easing of rules earlier this month.

Tse’s victory is seen as an important step forward for the city’s LGBTQ community, many of whose transgender members consider the operation unnecessary and risky.

After obtaining his new ID card, Tse told reporters that life has not been easy since he lodged a judicial review in 2017. In addition to the legal challenges, he has also faced obstacles from the government and attacks from others.

“What is normal for many people has finally become normal for us,” Tse said.

Public sentiment in Hong Kong has become increasingly welcoming to the LGBTQ community, but many still face challenges in daily life.

Tse said bank staff told him he did not match his ID card and asked him to resubmit documents. He also could not change the gender on his travel permit to mainland  China , which caused him a delay when crossing the border. Immigration officials searched their computer for 15 minutes, he said, before finally letting him enter.

In April, the Hong Kong government revised its policy to allow people who have not completed full gender-affirmation surgery to change their genders on ID cards as long as they fulfill certain conditions. The conditions include the removal of breasts for transgender men, the removal of the penis and testes for transgender women, and having undergone continuous hormonal treatment for at least two years before applying.

Applicants also have to continue their hormonal treatment and submit blood test reports for random checks upon the government’s request.

Tse, after receiving his new ID card, said he would start changing his other documents, including his passport and bank details. The activist, who was previously active in sports, said he might sign up for a gym membership too.

“It’s a return to normal life,” he said.
