Wine Tasting in Bologna: 10 Places You Have to Try

wine tour from bologna

Flying into Bologna Airport ? Get ready for a fabulous holiday! Located in Northern Italy, Bologna is the chief city and capital of Emilia-Romagna, one of the country’s richest regions in terms of gastronomic and wine-making traditions. As the center of an Italian wine-making region, Bologna boasts numerous wine-related events, including Italian wine tasting, wine tours, vineyard visits, and more.

You can’t miss a glass of Pignoletto when visiting the city. It’s the most representative wine of the Bologna hills with a delicate aroma, straw-yellow color, and a bitter end note. It goes well with fish dishes or light white meats. You should also try Barbera, a historical wine produced in the region in the hills of Bologna.

A visit to the Bolognese taverns around the city is one of the best things to do at night in Bologna and an ideal way to taste some international and local wines. Alternatively, you can always join a wine walking tour and participate in a wine tasting in Bologna to delve deeper into its history and tradition. But before choosing a wine bar to try or taking a wine and food tour, leave your unneeded belongings at a Bounce luggage storage facility to explore your destination hands-free. Plan to find your next favorite wine, whether from a rooftop bar or a lovely wine tasting excursion.

  • 565marleer 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wonderful Tour, wonderful Guide Isadora was a wonderful tour guide. She shared lots of history about Bologna as well as funny facts. We visited many different sites. We also learned about Italian cuisine and we certainly understand why Bologna is such a food capital. Isadora gave us great suggestions for things to do in the afternoon as well as restaurants for dinner.... and the best Gelato places in town. So our tour with her just kept giving. • Destination648183 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent Experience We did both the private walking tour and the food tour with Isadora and both were excellent! Isadora was extremely knowledgeable as well as very patient (our group contained our two young children, who were adjusting to the time difference). We learned a lot about the beautiful city and even though it rained off and on both days we were there, Isadora was able to adjust our tour in response to the rain and we still had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend both tours! Isadora also provided great dinner recommendations for us, which was above and beyond and really made our trip. Read more Written April 4, 2024

  • Adventure04966926899 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Immersive Experience Isadora took us on a brilliant immersive tour of private balsamic vinegar and parmigiano reggiano factory tours. Truly a stand out experience from a month in Italy. Exceeded expectations. Never forget what I learned and these products have so much more meaning now. She was prompt, knowledgable and spoke excellent English as we are from USA. Highly recommend Isadora. Read more Written February 11, 2024

Our day with her was perfect and we visited a prosciutto factory in addition to balsamic and parmigiano reggiano tours! She made each delicious tour so informative and fun! Both were phenomenal. We were a group of 7 people and Isadora went out of her way to accommodate our larger group for transportation. She is super friendly and knowledgeable. The venues we visited did not disappoint! Had such a great time we recommended her and the tour to other friends visiting later and they were equally pleased. I would recommend Isadora and her tours to anyone visiting the area. Read more Written February 11, 2024
  • michaelcB2553CY 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best Tour of our Trip This tour was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Italy. Isadora was very flexible and had so much knowledge of the region. We added a tour of a Prosciutto factory in with the Parmigiano cheese and Balsamic Vinegar, which made it a full-day tour. Lots of food at every stop, all of it amazing. The small Balsamic producer she brought us to was incredible! It's so clear that Isadora has a great relationship with all of the producers she brought us to. Price was very reasonable, since it was a fixed price for up to three people, and that was the size of our group. Would highly recommend this tour over larger group tours. • paulp649 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic tour, well worth it Our guide, Isadora, was extremely knowledgeable, her command of English was excellent and she was as engaging and friendly as could be. She is a wonderful tour guide. Our tour started at the Parmesan factory and was topped off with a delicious tasting (and purchase) of the 1, 2 & 3 year aged cheese. We then went to a Balsamic house and sampled “real” balsamic. It was amazing. What a great learning experience talking to the owner and sampling her balsamic flavors. Take home the 30 year balsamic, packaged perfectly to carry on a plane - we were glad we did, there’s nothing like it in the states. We had a fantastic lunch at a restaurant that Isadora knew in a small town. The food and wine were incredible. We finished our day with a tour of the Ferrari museum, I customized this with Isadora prior to our trip and she took care of the tickets and guided us through the museum. Those cars are spectacular. I highly recommend this tour and tour guide you will be very happy the choice. Read more Written December 22, 2023

  • P4353XPlisaw 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles AMAZING My family booked a tour of Bologna with Isadora in March 23. We like to get a guided tour by locals, on the first day we get into a new city to get a better sense of the city and how things work, plus get the sights in. Isadora was wonderful. Her English is amazing. She showed us all the sights to see. More importantly, she loves wine and food, as do we. She gave us the all the tips on where to eat and drink. We were able to experience a locals only kind of day because of her tips. She was also very open to providing restaurant suggestions months before we got there and was helpful in giving us some tip on balsamic tastings outside of Bologna. I'd highly recommend booking with Isadora, you won't regret it. We didn't. Read more Written December 21, 2023

  • miketM5790MK 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Just the Best Isadora was just fabulous. She's friendly, funny, and has a keen grasp of the history of Bologna. She learned from us that we loved libraries, so she took us into the Public Library and gained access to the ancient Roman ruins that lie beneath the library. One of the best walking tours we've ever had. when we finished, we felt we had a solid understanding of how Bologna became the city it is today. Read more Written March 22, 2023
  • 6Aimee1 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Beautiful Bologna I booked a 2 hour walking tour of the historical center of Bologna on Viator. Christina, our tour guide, was excellent. The group was small and collegial which also made for a fun experience. We focused on the main educational, religious and gastronomic elements of the city. Fascinating! Christina's knowledge of the customs especially as it relates to the food culture was really interesting. Highly recommend. Read more Written November 28, 2022
