Yes Launches US Tour With Intimate Club Show: Set List and Videos

Yes kicked off their  Classic Tales of Yes U.S. tour  on Tuesday with an intimate fan club show in Lititz, Pennsylvania, that featured several live debuts and songs that hadn't been performed in years.

You can see videos from the performance and the full set list below.

The progressive rock legends launched their latest stateside run at Mickey's Black Box, a 600-person venue located on the campus of Rock Lititz, a sprawling rehearsal and production facility where artists can workshop their stage designs, film music videos and more.

Yes Played Several Deep Cuts and Live Debuts on Tour Kickoff

After opening their set with the title track from 1977's  Going for the One , Yes unearthed "It Will Be a Good Day (The River)," off 1999's  The Ladder , for the first time since 2000. They also performed 1977's "Turn of the Century" for the first time since 2014, and several other tracks — including "Machine Messiah," "Time and a Word" and "South Side of the Sky" — for the first time since 2018.

The intimate performance also featured two live debuts — "All Connected" and "Cut From the Stars" — off Yes' most recent album,  Mirror to the Sky , released in May.

More time-honored tracks included a cover of Simon & Garfunkel 's "America," as well as the hits "I've Seen All Good People" and the show-closing "Roundabout."

The Classic Tales of Yes tour will begin in earnest on Thursday at the Wind Creek Event Center in nearby Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The voyage will conclude on Nov. 4 in Riverside, California. Each show will also feature an on-site presentation and gallery by artist and designer Roger Dean, whose work has appeared on several Yes album covers.

YES Keyboard Legend RICK WAKEMAN Announces March/April 2023 U.S. Tour

Keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman CBE is pleased to announce that he will return to the USA in March and April 2023 with his latest tour "An Evening With Rick Wakeman: His Music And Stories" , starting Wednesday, March 15 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

"It's always so enjoyable playing in America," Wakeman comments. "At every show, I see old friends and hopefully, make new ones."

Wakeman 's set will consist of music taken from across the wide breadth of his 50-year-plus career, stripped back to its roots in arrangements for grand piano. It will include work from his early days as a session player arranging and performing keyboards on hits like David Bowie 's "Life On Mars" , through his groundbreaking stint with progressive rock band YES and his own multi-platinum solo albums, plus quirky covers of other acts like THE BEATLES .

And this glorious display of keyboard virtuosity will be punctuated by hilarious anecdotes and reminiscences of his life. Renowned as much for his irreverent sense of humor as his musical talent, as he himself says, all of Wakeman 's stories contain an element of truth; it's up to the audience to decide how much!

In a departure from his previous solo tours, as well as playing a grand piano, Wakeman will also be bringing along a few electronic keyboards to add variety and texture to his set.

"I'm looking forward to ringing the changes with the addition of keyboards, which is a bit of a departure from my traditional 'piano shows', but will give me the opportunity to vary the setlist."

Rick Wakeman 2023 U.S. tour:

March 15 - Phoenixville, PA @ Colonial Theatre March 17 Fort Lauderdale, FL Amaturo Theater @ Broward County March 16-23 - '70s Rock & Romance Cruise (Miami, Puerto Plata, San Juan, St. Croix) March 25 - Clearwater, FL Capital Theatre @ Ruth Eckerd Hall March 27 - Atlanta, GA @ Variety Playhouse March 30 - Bethlehem, PA @ Wind Creek Events Center March 31 - Atlantic City, NJ @ Sound Waves Theater @ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino April 01 - Montclair, NJ @ Wellmont Theater April 03 - Red Bank, NJ @ The Vogel @ Count Basie Theatre April 04 - Ridgefield, CT @ Ridgefield Playhouse April 05 - Huntington, NY @ The Paramount April 06 - New York, NY @ City Winery April 09 - Derry, NH @ Tupelo Music Hall Professional musician, keyboard player, songwriter, broadcaster and raconteur, Wakeman 's career started as a much-in-demand session player, who performed on recordings by David Bowie , Elton John , Lou Reed , Al Stewart and hundreds more artists. His big break came in 1971 when he joined YES , who went on to become the most successful prog rock band in the world, but Wakeman has also always gone his own way outside the framework of that group.

In the seventies, he achieved chart-topping success with solo albums such as "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" , "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII" and "The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table" , which cumulatively sold over 10 million copies in North America alone.

He has written several film scores, amongst them two for director Ken Russell ( "Lisztomania" and "Crimes Of Passion" ) and two "Harry Palmer" movies starring Michael Caine ( "Bullet To Beijing" and "Midnight In St. Petersburg" ),and in the U.K., has built up an impressive reputation as a witty guest and host on shows like "Grumpy Old Men" , "Countdown" , "Watchdog" and the comedy cabaret show "Live At Jongleurs" . His wickedly irreverent acceptance speech when YES was inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017 nearly brought the house down.

That same year, he made British chart history when his "Piano Portraits" record became the first solo piano instrumental album to enter the U.K.'s Top 10 on release — a feat he then repeated with last year's "Piano Odyssey" . Both records feature tunes that have a special connection with Rick 's personal musical journey and his subsequent tours, in which he performs a selection of tracks accompanied by hilarious memories and anecdotes have been instant sellouts in the U.K.

Now the achievements of his incredible career have been officially recognized with a CBE in recognition of his services to music, so come and celebrate with him on his forthcoming tour.

My first Yes concert experience was on 25 Sept. 1977 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The stage was designed by Roger Dean and had beautiful orange fabrics draped all around. This time out Yes consisted of Chris Squire on bass (the only member to be in every Yes role-call), Steve Howe on guitar, Alan White on drums, Jon Anderson on vocals, and Rick Wakeman returning on keyboards.

The opening act for this show was Donovan and I believe it was his first performance in San Diego. While the house lights were still up Firebird Suite began to play and the lights began to slowly fade. What a great memory being greeted by the majestic organ introduction to Parallels, a a marvelous start to the evening as well. The material from the recent Going For The One album was equally as strong as their older material and has since survived the test of time compared to some of their other works.

This particular evening had a brilliant mix of old and new. The songs continued with I've Seen All Good People, and Close To The Edge. Wonderous Stories and Turn Of The Century both feature Jon Anderson's angelic alto voice. Jons' microphone gear that night looked like a space helmet collar and had 2 mics for stereo tracking that sounded amazing.

After Going For The One and Awaken the band left the stage. They returned for an encore and played Starship Trooper and Roundabout. What an evening. Rick Wakeman looked like a gladiator in an arena of keyboards and Steve Howe had several guitars to choose from. The quality musicianship of these players has awed me for over 40 years now.

In 1984 Yes toured the 90125 album with Chris Squire on bass, Jon Anderson on vocals, Tony Kaye returning on keyboards, Alan White on drums and Trevor Rabin on guitar. The stage was round and had slanted grating that made it difficult for Echo and the Bunnymen so set up their equipment so the opening act was replaced by 2 Bugs Bunny cartoons. The show started with a new instrumental named Cinema from the 90125 album. Leave It had Alan White playing a small electric drum set for the first half of the song, when the lights dimmed and he reappeared behind the full acoustic drumkit in a blast of light for the end of the song the whole Forum was floored.

This show found Yes playing mainly the newer material. We were treated to a few of the classics: I've Seen All Good People, And You and I, and Long Distance Runaround were mixed in to the main set and once again the encore was Starship Trooper and Roundabout.

In 1991 Yes had a Reunion tour. To some it may have felt the band was larger than the audience. Guitars: Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin. Drums: Alan White and Bill Bruford. Keyboards: Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman. Bass: Chris Squire. Vocals: Jon Anderson. I was able to see both legs of this tour. The first leg was indoor arenas and the stage was round and rotated clockwise for the first half of the show and counterclockwise for the second half.

The second leg of the tour was in outdoor amphitheaters. In addition to the classics we were treated to a drum duet, two guitar solos, and two keyboard solos. The main sets were only about 20 songs and the encore was Roundabout, but when you consider that some of the songs are 30 minutes long or so it made for quite a full evening of some of the best musical talent you will ever see in one place.

Yes were on their usual nervy, edgy form - they're an unusual band because although everything has complex arrangements, they are still winging it for most of the gig.

Set One - Don't Kill The Whale, Drama album, Siberian Khatru, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Time And A Word

Steve Howe played pretty erratically - as he always risks with his love of staccato, spur of the moment embellishments - for most of the first half, but oddly enough nailed Owner Of A Lonely Heart, a record he wasn't on, and from that point cleaned up his act and started to hit the beat. Jon Davison and Alan White were impeccable as they fought to keep the beat on track, while Geoff Downes seemed to be in a hurry to get to the end of some of the songs - especially Siberian Khatru, which was quite a mess between the rushed keyboards and the stuttering guitar. However, it was a pleasure to hear the Drama album finally sung by a great singer rather than the rather demo-quality performance on the original album, and the rhythms were so much more powerful live.

Set Two - Fragile album, Starship Trooper

The second half cleared up all doubts with a fiery, muscular performance of Fragile, an album the band have been playing regularly for a couple of years. The combination of nostalgia, power and a wealth of melodies was breathtaking and moving. Geoff Downes was so strong that he completely eclipsed the more hesitant performance shown on the Like It Is DVD.

Billy Sherwood, bless him, won the crowd's love with his devotion to channelling his mighty mentor, the late Chris Squire, whose memory is still being celebrated with a slideshow and playback of "Onward" before the band came on. Yes have now wisely added a slide in tribute to their other unmanifest member, Peter Banks, after performing one of the original band's early songs, Time And A Word, which was recorded by five entirely different people from the current line-up.

This completely replaced and refreshed Yes look set to reach the band's 50th anniversary, and Steve Howe is wearing the leader's hat lightly and happily after waiting so long to inherit it.

The Yes concert was excellent. They played two albums in their entirety, Close to the Edge (in reverse order) & Roundabout. Two songs from the new album and then two encores, "All Good People" and (somewhat of a surprise) "Owner of a Lonely Heart". Amazing that guys their age can play very difficult music for almost 3 hours and not miss a note. I guess that is what 40 years of practice will do for you. This may not have been the 'classic' line up that so many fans wanted to see, but I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Geoff is not the keyboard wizard that Rick is (who is?), but he was very sharp and did a masterful job. Steve is still Steve, I'm sure he will be playing those licks when he is in his 90's. I hope he gets paid by the note, he will make a fortune. Chris too was in great form and you could tell he was enjoying playing this material to a very appreciative crowd. Jon Davison handles the vocals very well. He isn't trying to imitate Jon Anderson, but stays true to the original spirit of the lyrics. His voice did justice to the music and he is great in his role as the new lead singer for this band. Alan is still (IMHO) one of the best rock drummers around, not flashy, but gets the job done. Some of the songs have never been preformed live until this tour, so it was pretty neat to experience some things that have never been heard outside of a recording studio before. Who knows, maybe down the road there will be another Union tour. If there is, count me in!

First: RIP Mike Porcaro and Chris Squire. Second: Rose Music Center is a great venue. Everything about the place is wonderful. I can't wait to go to more concerts there. Third: Toto stole the night. I had truly wished by some miracle that Simon Phillips would have been on this tour, but so be it. Lukather crushed it. Vocals were out of this world too. I also wanted more of their hits, but it was good to see Steve and Luke jam out Hydra live. Also, Phillips would have KILLED that set... Shannon Forrest... he's OK. Just OK. Sorry, you had big shoes to fill. Last: This was my third Yes concert in my life. Sadly, it's time for the boys to hang it up. Steve Howe unfortunately just didn't seem to be with it. Alan was taking it easy, but hey, I get it, these guys have been doing this for decades. Yet, they butchered some of their best tunes AND at slow tempos to boot. I'm sure diehard fans won't agree. That's fine. I didn't even finish the set this time. I just had to go. It was painful to watch. I won't be seeing them anymore. Last point: Jon Davison is a decent emulator, but it was just too much. Billy Sherwood is a great bassist by the way. Kudos. Venue review: the sound mix was awesome for both bands. Sorry Yes... I'll always love the recordings. I wish you well in retirement.

The entire concert last night was incredible. Toto put on a great show by playing a number of their old songs and also by playing a couple of songs from their new album. One of the new songs they basically dedicated it to Mike Porcaro and Chris Squire since both bands lost their bass players this year.

Yes started their part of the concert with a tribute to Chris Squire and having his infamous Rickenbacker bass on stage while showing pictures of Chris through his time with Yes. The band then came out and opened up with Don't Kill the Whale. They played songs from throughout the years, including Going for the One, Time and a Word, and Owner of a Lonely Heart. They ended their set with Roundabout and played Starship Trooper for their encore. The entire night was just beyond belief with these two bands rocking the stage.

The concert was awesome and it brought back lots of old memories! They had a new lead singer who is just as good if not better than the original! Definitely a concert worth seeing. They played the Close To The Edge album and then the entire Fragile album along with a few new songs from a new album that's going to be released that sounded really good!!

The concert was excellent. The band line-up performed excellently, with Geoff stepping in brilliantly for Chris Squire, and Jon Davison has an excellent voice as well, keeps up the quality of Yes' amazing music.

I wish I could go back and time and re-live the concert!! This is a definite must-see!! I can't wait till next time!!

Great band with great songs and a great history - it was great to see them purely for that reason. However, when I saw them at Oxford this year they seemed really under-rehearsed. I don't know if they had sound issues on stage but the drummer was in his own tempo for a lot of it. Even my Dad noticed and he's not musical!

They're getting old... but they weren't bad at all. I just hope this is their last tour. Starship Trooper was a good way to go out, and tbh Anderson Rabin and Wakeman is more yes than they are at this point member-wise... anyway, good concert, and I'd catch them if I were you just cuz I think this is it for them.

Great show, worthy tribute to Chris Squire. Billy Sherwood ably filled the bass and vocal duties, at the express wish of Chris himself before he passed. Nice mix of tunes, featuring some fairly deep cuts to include "Don't Kill the Whale" which I hadn't heard them play live before.

One of the biggest bands in rock history, YES, is heading out on another U.S. tour, and it's stopping in Denver . Their 2022 U.S. tour sold out, you better get your tickets, while you can.

The band has been making music for over 50 years, and was on the forefront of creating what's known as "progressive rock." They'll be bringing their distinctive sound to the Mile High city for a night of classic hits, and songs from their latest release.

Steve Howe and Geoff Downes along with the newer members of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee band YES are going out on their " Classic Tales Of Yes"  tour, beginning in September of 2023 and ending in November of 2023.

They're not only bringing the iconic songs of YES , they're also bringing the artist behind all of their album covers, Roger Dean. Dean will make a special presentation before each show, and there'll be a gallery of his art in the foyer/lobby of each venue.

It will be amazing to see him in person, see his art, and then also see YES. This is going to be a big night, indeed.

CONCERT REVIEW: Classic Tales As Told By YES on Tour (October 26th, 2023)

yes u.s. tour 2023

At this point in their career, the drama of Yes precedes them (starting well before “Drama” came out, actually), threatening to overshadow the very music they perform. Happily, a few songs into their show at Denver’s Paramount Theater last week, and all politics and comparisons had fallen by the wayside, triumphantly overshadowed by the fact that this is simply some of the best progressive rock music ever made, and it was being performed damn well. Call them Yes , call them by more derogatory names, but regardless of your personal take on their lineup, there was a ton of music from Yes ’ legacy to be enjoyed on this evening. Frankly it’s a shame that anyone is too tied up in opinionated knots to not be able to just enjoy it. For the rest of us, this was a fantastic evening.

Everyone in the theater was grateful that the show happened at all. Reportedly Steve Howe had injured his hand earlier in the week and the two previous shows had been cancelled at the last minute. While Yes management didn’t go out of their way to assure Denver that the concert was indeed happening, no news was good news in this case and so the band and fans alike showed up, trusting that the other would be there. Fortunately Howe showed virtually no signs of pain during his playing, although two songs were cut from the setlist, perhaps due to the potential strain on his hand: “Going For The One” (which requires pedal steel playing) and a short instrumental guitar solo excerpt from “America.” [Apparently those omissions have now reappeared for the subsequent concert two nights later.]

Roger Dean , the famed artist who created so many of Yes ’ iconic album covers, was essentially the opening band. He offered a presentation of his history and portfolio to start the evening, which some audience members obviously could have done without, while others were fascinated. There were some interesting stories, a few humorous jabs at Avatar, and most of all it was just nice to visit with Dean for a little bit. But by the end of the talk, the audience was more than ready for Yes to appear.

The setlist was spectacularly diverse and unexpected, a nice change from some past tours where albums were played front to back in their entirety. Opening with “Machine Messiah” is always a welcome choice. It’s been played a surprising amount over the past many years but that’s to make up for its neglect over the previous several decades. Plus, it just makes sense, given that 2/5 of the current band actually played on that studio album, which is about as high a ratio as you’ll get tonight, save for one new song (cue the haters). We follow up with a song where a different 2/5 of the band created the original track, the very surprising “It Will Be A Good Day.” For Yes fans in the know, 1999’s “The Ladder” was an impressive outing, which included Billy Sherwood in the band, so featuring virtually any song from it is a treat. “Your Move/I’ve Seen All Good People” is a friendly bone tossed to the casual fans who will otherwise find very little familiar in the setlist on this tour, and it’s a solid performance of the song, from Howe ’s opening lute to his electric soloing later on.

Jumping back to the 60s, the band chooses to play the title track from “Time And A Word” which should have been a massive anthem at the time of its release. Although no one on stage tonight was part of that original studio album (aside from Howe unfortunately appearing on the album cover for the version in the States), the rendition offered here is triumphant, from singer Jon Davison ’s pitch-perfect delivery to Billy Sherwood ’s harmony vocals which Chris Squire used to sing and Howe ’s soloing where Peter Banks used to be. For those not in the know, Sherwood has completely perfected Squire ’s approach to the bass, both in covering the classic pieces and even in writing new songs with a Squire mindset. In the case of this song, Sherwood ’s playing of Squire ’s bass lines lifts up this simple folk song and makes it a prog anthem. A fitting tip of the cap to the band’s origins.

The highlights of the show turn out to be reached through the next two songs. “South Side of the Sky” is a hidden gem off the “Fragile” album, but offers a vibe which Yes was not able to capture live in concert for many years. Here the band delivers the song’s intense driving energy successfully, thanks largely to drummer Jay Schellen who seems particularly on fire tonight. The middle slow section is deftly played by Geoff Downes , covering Rick Wakeman ’s original lines, as Davison , Sherwood and Howe sing the beautiful interweaving vocal lines. Its glory is surpassed by the next choice, one of Yes ’ most evocative pieces “Turn Of The Century”. Co-written by Yes ’ beloved late drummer, Alan White , tonight’s performance is made even more special by the fact that his wife Gigi is in the audience, which Davison announces as he dedicates the song to her and her son. Howe is completely on point during the whole piece, from his uniquely stylistic acoustic guitar opening section, following Davison ’s angelic vocal runs in perfect unison, to his majestic electric guitar playing in the middle as the vocals rise higher and higher, and back to acoustic to finish the piece with breathtaking poignancy. The masterpiece leaves the audience gasping, including Gigi who has tears of joy in her eyes, viscerally moved.

As the tour’s title implies, there is an offering made from the divisive “Tales Of Topographic Oceans” album, but it is unlike what the band have played before. Instead of playing one of the four 20 minute pieces from the double album, they instead have created a 20 minute medley of all four pieces. Howe came up with the idea and the edit, which is most interesting considering that he has taken Jon Anderson to task any time Anderson has even hinted at rearranging a Yes classic. But tonight the chopping block is on full display and what results is a kind of “Greatest Hits of Topographic” , jumping from one chorus to another. For those of us who love “Topographic “, this is a double edged sword. One one side, the medley is packed with choice material, going from one strength to another. On the other side, it is jarring to suddenly have a beloved piece abruptly stopped and go into another one. The jury is still out as to whether the ends justify the means on this one, but is was gratifying to at least hear some parts of “The Remembering” which have hardly ever been played live before.

The band leaves the stage after a surprisingly short set, returning with the traditional encores of “Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper” , the crowd finally coming to their feet. They’re good versions of the songs but nothing remarkable given their extensive histories. On “Trooper”, for example, there’s no Wakeman keyboard solo during “Würm” to build up the tension before Howe ’s climactic guitar solo, so that solo hardly feels as though it enters with maximum impact. Downes performance throughout the night has certainly been solid, but it doesn’t go beyond that to the next level that other Yes keyboardists have reached.

With that, let’s talk for a moment about the band’s current incarnation. Tonight’s concert certainly proves that they can play Yes songs satisfyingly and convincingly. How wonderful that we can still enjoy this music by some of its creators. It’s okay if there’s not as much fire as 50 years ago, that can’t realistically be expected. The younger generation of 3/5 of the band do keep things fresh and sparkly – Schellen captures White ’s approach and has the energy to deliver, Sherwood is the epitome of Squire ’s protege, and Davison sings the pieces very well.

But let’s be honest, there’s nothing like the tone in Anderson ’s voice and, perhaps more importantly, the spirit behind his voice which is what Yes was founded upon. There’s a thousand good reasons for the current lineup to stay intact, not least being that they are making good new music such as featured on the new release “Mirror To The Sky” . But the reality is that they only played ONE song off that album ( “Cut From The Stars”, played well but otherwise unremarkable), and this tour wasn’t called the “Mirror To The Sky” tour, it was called “Classic Tales of Yes”.

If you’re primarily going to play Classic Yes , all the good reasons in the world don’t seem to overcome the obvious option: play with classic Yes members. Anderson is hard to work with? Fine, don’t write new albums with him, tour in a separate bus, but get on stage with him. Plenty of other bands do this. Maybe Wakeman , too, if he’ll do it. You want to respect all that Davison and Downes have given the band the past 14 years? Fine, have a section of the concert with the current 5-piece playing, and play a bunch of those fine NEW SONGS they’ve written. Then bring out the old guard and play the classics. (And more snarkily I would add – if you argue that Anderson will ask for a larger percentage of money, fine give it to him. You’re going to bring in more than enough additional people to the shows to counterbalance that. The Paramount wasn’t exactly filled for this concert, attendance is clearly on the decline.)

Okay, that’s my brief rant, and my suggestions. Love live Yes , in all its many colors, textures and high vibrations!

Frozen Four: History and team records

2024 women's NCAA Tournament Final Four dates, game times, TV, location, teams and more

The stars will be out on Friday night in the women's Final Four.

Iowa's Caitlin Clark , South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso, UConn's Paige Bueckers and NC State's Aziaha James will all take the court in Cleveland with a trip to the national championship game on the line, and each has their own calling card as they enter the championship rounds.

Clark's story is well-documented at this point , but endlessly impressive nonetheless: She put together a Her-culean effort in Iowa's win over LSU in the Elite Eight, with a 41-point game (and a bit of revenge). Cardoso has been a force in the paint for the Gamecocks, and she'll look to take her game to the next level at the conclusion of the women's tournament.

J ames has exploded in the tournament , capping off brilliant performance after brilliant performance with a 7-for-9 night from 3-point land in the Wolfpack's win over Texas in the Elite Eight. Last, and certainly not least, Bueckers wants to cap off this UConn run with that elusive championship – but she plans to run it back with the Huskies next season should things go south between now and then.

Women's Final Four bracket

Here's how the women's Final Four bracket shapes up entering the final weekend of the tourney:

  • (1) South Carolina vs. (3) North Carolina State
  • (1) Iowa vs. (3) UConn

Who is in the women's Final Four?

In one matchup, the South Carolina Gamecocks take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a battle of Carolina supremacy. South Carolina, led by 6-foot-7 senior Kamilla Cardoso, looks to keep its undefeated season rolling against the Wolfpack. Aziaha James has been on a tear in the tournament, last exploding for seven 3-pointers in NC State's win over the Longhorns.

In the other showdown, Caitlin Clark looks to keep her historic 2023-24 season alive when she and the Hawkeyes face off against Paige Bueckers and UConn in the semifinal. Here’s what’s open (and closed) on Good Friday 2024

Good Friday closings vary depending on where you live.

Good Friday is a conundrum for many people. Easter is such a major holiday in the Christian faith that it seems like it would also be a government holiday. It’s not, though. But that doesn’t mean everything will be open.

Markets, governments and businesses usually agree on days off, but they have differing policies when it comes to Good Friday. Confused? Don’t worry. Here’s what you can expect.

Are banks open on Good Friday?

Yes—and no. Good Friday is not a federal holiday, so banks in most states will be open. Twelve states, however, recognize Good Friday as a state holiday, so branches in Connecticut, Texas, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina and North Dakota could be closed.

Will there be any mail delivery on Good Friday?

Yes. Since this isn’t a federal holiday, the U.S. Postal Service will operate as it does on any other day. UPS and FedEx will conduct business as usual, also—and their drop off locations will have normal hours.

Is the stock market open on Good Friday?

Here’s where things get a little confusing. The stock market observes Good Friday as a holiday, so the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will both be closed.

Are government offices open on Good Friday?

As with banks, it really comes down to where you live. Since 12 states recognize the day as an official holiday, you won’t be able to access DMV offices, courts or city halls in Connecticut, Texas, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina and North Dakota.

Which retail and grocery stores are closed on Good Friday?

Almost none. No major retailer shuts down for Good Friday—and several hold Easter or Spring sales hoping to lure in last-minute shoppers who are assisting the Easter Bunny this Sunday.

2024 Valero Texas Open odds, picks: Proven model reveals projected leaderboard, surprising PGA golf predictions

Hero Image

The 2024 Valero Texas Open will feature a star-studded field when play tees off on Thursday, April 4, from TPC San Antonio. According to the latest 2024 Valero Texas Open odds, Rory McIlroy is the 15-2 favorite. He's followed by Ludvig Aberg (12-1), Hideki Matsuyama (18-1), Max Homa (18-1) and Jordan Spieth (18-1) on the PGA odds board.

We simulated the 2024 Valero Texas Open 10,000 times, and there are some MAJOR surprises. Join SportsLine here to see the model's shocking projected leaderboard .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact,  the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000!

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend!  Anyone who has followed it has seen MASSIVE returns! Join SportsLine now to see the model's shocking Valero Texas Open picks from 10,000 simulations !

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Valero Texas Open 2024: Ludvig Aberg, a rising star and one of the top favorites, struggles this week and doesn't even crack the top five. Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood, a 30-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

Also, the model is targeting THREE other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer   who will make surprising runs at the title !   Anyone who backs these golfers could hit it BIG. You ABSOLUTELY need to see who they are before locking in any picks!

So who wins the Valero Texas Open 2024, and which HUGE longshots make a serious run at the title? ...  Join SportsLine right now to see who you can bank on to win, and see which longshots make a run at the title, all from the model that's nailed 10 majors, including last year's Masters and Open Championship !

Wisconsin voters to decide on GOP-backed ballot measures that would affect how elections are run

A voter casts an early ballot at a polling station

Wisconsin voters will head to the polls Tuesday to decide on two low-profile yet controversial constitutional amendments backed by Republicans that would change how elections are run in the pivotal battleground state.

One measure would ban the use of private funds in election administration — which conservatives often refer to derisively as "Zuckerbucks" — while another seeks to clarify the role of an election worker.

Opponents contend that the measures are the result of unfounded conspiracy theories following Joe Biden's 2020 election win and that passing either or both of them would create obstacles to smoothly administering elections this fall, as Wisconsin is set to host key races for president and the U.S. Senate.

After the 2020 election, Donald Trump's allies falsely claimed that the millions of dollars Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg donated to groups helping election administration offices was a front by Zuckerberg to help Biden win the election. In reality, the money from a group he funded was used to help hire more election workers in heavily populated areas and to buy protective gear to prevent people from getting Covid.

Critics of the ballot measure that would ban using private funds in election administration argue that those claims are the reason Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin placed the measure on the ballot Tuesday.

Wisconsin is among a handful of states where lawmakers refer proposed constitutional amendments to the ballot so voters can decide. In other states, voters can try to directly place such measures on ballots via signature-gathering processes.

Supporters say the measures would effectively ban "dark money" from elections.

A second question on the Wisconsin ballot Tuesday will ask voters to decide whether “only election officials designated by law may perform tasks in the conduct of primaries, elections, and referendums.” Opponents say that Wisconsin laws already clearly outline who qualifies as an “election official” and that the amendment would needlessly narrow the number of people who qualify accordingly, while supporters argue the law would help clarify and streamline election administration.

“Both of these are measures were passed by the Republican majority in the Legislature and vetoed by the governor. So this is what they do now. This is their end run,” said Jay Heck, the executive director of Common Cause Wisconsin, the state’s branch of the national nonpartisan government watchdog group. “They put it on the ballot in the form of an innocuous question.”

Heck called the measures “the product of election denial efforts” that, if passed, would hamper efforts by officials across the state to run elections smoothly.

Republicans in the Legislature referred the measures directly to voters after Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, vetoed their attempts to pass laws seeking the same outcomes.

In recent weeks, Republican lawmakers, both from Wisconsin and elsewhere, have been pushing voters to pass them.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., whose office  was involved in an attempt to deliver fake elector materials  to Vice President Mike Pence on Jan. 6, 2021, urged Wisconsinites to vote “yes” on both questions, saying in a video released last week that doing so would “ban Zuckerbucks.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, an ally of Trump who has pushed false claims of widespread fraud during the 2020 election, also urged voters to support the proposals in a video he released last week.

“Secure elections require proper election administration. That’s why I’m encouraging everyone in Wisconsin to vote ‘yes’ on constitutional amendments 1 and 2,” Jordan, standing alongside Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., said in the video .

The Wisconsin GOP formally supports both proposals, while the state Democratic Party urges voters to oppose both.

“Seizing on Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, Republican politicians in Madison are pushing a vaguely worded, bad-faith constitutional amendment to meddle in election administration and leave local governments with fewer resources to keep polling places open. Rather than work to make sure our clerks have the resources they need to run elections, Republicans are pushing a nonsense amendment to satisfy Donald Trump,” state Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler said in a statement.

During the 2020 election, which occurred during the heart of the Covid pandemic, a group called the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a nonpartisan organization funded largely by grants from Zuckerberg and his wife, made $10 million available to Wisconsin officials to help recruit poll workers and buy protective equipment to shield people from getting sick.

Many Republicans across the U.S. have falsely claimed that the money helped boost Democratic turnout in 2020, subsequently resulting in Biden’s flipping the state from Trump, who won it in 2016.

Efforts by conservatives are also underway in Arizona to put a measure on the ballot this year that would make major changes to the state’s vote-by-mail system and in Nevada to amend the state constitution to include voter ID requirements to cast ballots.

If the measures in Wisconsin pass Tuesday, the state would join the more than two dozen others that have, fueled by the Zuckerberg conspiracy theory, taken similar actions since 2020.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures , at least 27 states have moved to “prohibit, limit or regulate the use of private or philanthropic funding to run elections” since the 2020 election. Eleven passed such laws in 2021, 13 did so in 2022, and three passed them in 2023.

Wisconsin was among five states where Democratic governors vetoed such measures. In Wisconsin’s case, that led the GOP-controlled Legislature to refer identical measures directly to voters.

“These measures being placed before voters are part of a growing trend by the opposition to manipulate and undermine the people’s tool of direct democracy and purposefully confuse voters on a measure’s intent,” said Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, the executive director of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, which works with progressive organizations to help advance citizen-led ballot measures.

“We can expect these types of misleading ballot measures led by conservative lawmakers to escalate as we head further into 2024,” she added.
