• The history of Mobile Scout revealed!

Mobile Scout was indeed a company that built travel trailers years ago. I will give you an update as I know the history. In the late 70s William Dozer Thornton who owned the company sold it to an investor group. It was bankrupted by the new owners in the early 80s. W. D. Thornton received the right to the name in the bankruptcy in exchange for the money that they still owed him. In 1992 several of us that were involved in the RV industry started a new venture, SunnyBrook RV, Inc, with Tom Thornton being one of the partners. W.D. Thornton was Tom’s father and Tom owned several RV dealerships in Texas at the time. When we started producing units Tom wanted his units built with the Mobile Scout name on them instead of SunnyBrook. Then several other Texas dealers also expressed interest in having their units built with the Mobile Scout Name. So we acquired the right to use the name and have been building units with the Mobile Scout name on them ever since. In December of 2010 SunnyBrook was acquired by Winnebago Industries. So ... where do I find out information on my 1962 Mobile Scout? I want to find a blueprint of the inside or at least pictures. Help?

Adding some info. Please reply to this post if you have any information at all. I'd really like to get my baby back into ORIGINAL shape.

I recently purchased a 1968 Mobile Scout '24 tandem axle trailer. It looks more like an Airstream. It's very cool and i'm looking forward to restoring it! I cannot find any information on this trailer at all.

W. F. Thornton son of W. D. Thornton designed and built 30 of the Travel Lux aluminum trailers. The Co. was sold in 1972. The new owner did not continue to build this trailer. If you have one you have a one of a kind.

i have a 1968 mobile svout was cleaning it...under the covers i removed for cleaning was ...seemed to be original covering..dining seat... has a herd of wild running horses....original decor theme???? where can i find more extensive pics of original 1968 M S decor/theme...how do i show pic of it here?

Brought a '70 15 foot home yesterday. Dont know how to send a picture.

We have a 1973 Mobile Scout Rally Mate.  There are wires that have been cut hanging out of the front of the camper.  Are these wires for battery use??  Our camper uses electricity, but I was hoping these wires could be used for battery use, so we could backwoods camp.  Any info would be greatly appreciated!  :)

We just bought a 1974 Mobile Scout, needs some work, but is missing all the light covers (inside).  Do you have any pictures of light covers or where we can buy replacements.  Thanks.

Description

1973 Mobile Scout, Rally Mate. This little camper has a body length of 15′ and is about 18′ bumper to tongue. I bought this camper out of Alabama in June of 2016. Alabama doesn’t issue titles for these little campers so I had to go thru the process of getting a “bonded title” here in Texas. Not that much trouble after the sheriff’s dept ran all the background.

It has been converted to all electric and updated in many ways. New electric panel and new cpvc plumbing pipe. It has a new on demand water heater, full bath with shower, new china toilet and sink. Not a wet bath that the toilet is in the shower as so many small ones have. The kitchen has new refrigerator, Formica, new microwave, new Summit smooth glass top cook top. The cushions are new 5″ foam with red and white vinyl covers. The floors are black and white 12″ squares. A/C is new, the cabinets have been modified and all the hardware stripped and repainted. The kitchen booth makes a bed and the couch flips out to make another bed. Really only sleeps two comfortably. We live in south Texas so a heater didn’t seem to be an issue but a small space heater heats the thing up very well. Has new tires and early Pontiac hub caps. Comes with 4 manual leveling jacks. The truck in the pictures is NOT for sale.

Some of the decor will convey, the red flatware, red towels, pillows and some other small decor items. Can clarify with my wife.

All the current remodeling work was done by my wife and me.

We are selling because I am retired now and I just bought a larger 26′ 1974 Airstream Argosy. We plan to re-do that and spend more time away.
