Krishnapuram Palace

Alleppey Lighthouse

Edathua Church

This famous church is known for celebrating huge feasts during the month of May. The church is also popular for its Christian and non-Christian pilgrims. The Vicar of this Palli was Father Thoman Olakkapady.  Currently, the church is located close to the Mahatma Gandhi University’s St. Aloysius College which is built and managed by the church. Since the church is located close to the below sea level area, therefore travelers can enjoy agricultural lands and rice farms that are seen separated through the rivers.  The environs here are enchanting, with mud levees being used for separating runs which are nothing less than a highway or street that one would find in New York.  A massive shrine at Edathua is located close by. Pathiramanal, which means “Sands of the Night”, is a small lake island located on the backwaters of Alappuzha in Lake Vembanad. It is a bird watcher’s paradise since it is supposed to hold approximately 91 local species of birds and 50 species of migratory birds. The location of the island is extremely scenic, making it a lovely space to observe birds and the water. Ambalapuzha Temple is one of the most rewarding places to visit in Alleppey. The temple is the oldest Krishna temples in Kerala and among the oldest in India too. Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race

Held in the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru, this boat race is unlike any other boat racing activity you may have seen before. The Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race, also known as Vallam Kali, is an annual competition that takes place every August on a part of Lake Vembanad. It is one of the cultural highlights of the state, so plan your visit accordingly if it is your desire to see and experience this boat race.  Unlike other boat racing events which have teams of 5 to 10 rowing furiously in silent concentration, this boat race has teams of at least 100 people, usually fishermen, who row together as they sing at the top of their voice. Vijaya Beach Park

Andhakaranazhi Beach

Referred to as the Venice of the East, Alappuzha has always enjoyed an important place in the maritime history of Kerala. In the olden days, kettuvallam or boat with thatched roof that covers over wooden hulls was used to carry tons of rice and spices.  Of late, houseboats come equipped with all the comforts of a good hotel room including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for angling. Bhagawathy Temple - Chettikulangara

At a distance of 43 Kms from Alappuzha, Bhagavathi Temple in Chettikulangara is a 1200 years old temple believed to have been established by Lord Parashurama. This temple is the second highest revenue earner in Kerala, next to Sabarimala . It is situated near Mavelikara. The presiding deity is Jagadambika of Chettikulangara, the Goddess of Oodanadu. This temple is now under the control of the Travancore Devasthanam Board. This temple was believed to have been consecrated by Padmapadacharyar (a leading disciple of Adi Shankara) in the year of 823 AD. The one day annual festival is celebrated in a grand manner with rituals like Kuthiyottam and Kettukazcha. At a distance of 23 Kms from Alappuzha Railway Station, Arthunkal Church, also known as St. Andrew's Forane Church is one of the oldest churches in Kerala. The highlights of the concluding day of the festival include a special ritual in which the devotees crawl on their knees all the way from the nearby beach to the church. At a distance of 4 Kms from Alappuzha Railway Station, Mullakkal Raja Rajeswari Temple is very famous shrine in Alappuzha dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is believed that Goddess Raja Rajeshwari appeared at this site to take care of a Jasmine flower (Mullakkal means 'Jasmine Flower' in Malayalam). The temple celebrates two annual festivals - the Navratri festival (October/November) and the Thaipooyakavadi festival (November/December). The last two days are the most auspicious days. 5. Kuttanad

Yet, it is the most fertile land in Kerala, and rice is ploughed here year-round. Palace history dates back to 1729–1758 CE. Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma built it after defeating the Odanad ruler in Odanad–Travancore War of 1746. This palace is the finest example of Kerala Architectural style. Today, this palace is maintained by the Archaeological Department of India. The art and crafts inside this palace are the Anchal Post box, Durbar Hall, Gajendra Moksham, Palace pond, Murals, wall paintings, Kayamkulam Vaal (Double Edged Sword), Buddha’s statue, and many antiquities of Travancore Kingdom. Krishnapuram Palace almost resembles the Padmanabhapuram Palace in Trivandrum. It is the best place for history buffs, designers, and architects.

7. Mullakkal Rajeshwari Temple

The devotees of Lord Krishna and other tourists must visit this temple during Chambakulam Moolam Water Festival in June and Aaraattu Festival between March to April. You must taste the mouthwatering Ambalappuzha temple offering the ‘Ambalapuzha Payasam,’ or a semi-liquid milk-based sweet served in the temple daily.
