The Sustainable Century Awards recognize the Port of Seattle’s customers and partners for a “demonstrated commitment to exceptional sustainability and equity leadership in operations and/or involvement with the Port and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.”

“The Port of Seattle is known for setting ambitious environmental goals for all Port operations and collaborating closely with nearby communities on aviation noise. We know that, while we are a national leader in many of these respects, we still have work to do to reduce our impacts and be the best neighbor possible,” said Port of Seattle Commission President Hamdi Mohamed. “The Commission prioritizes working with our Port partners to innovate and take on programs that move the Port and our region forward on climate action and noise abatement strategies. We’re excited to recognize the work our partners are doing to amplify our Century Agenda goals and Fly Quiet program.”

Driving fuel savings and updating older aircraft with more modern, fuel-efficient fleet additions are two vital levers that can produce an immediate impact on fuel usage and its associated carbon emissions. Delta continues to invest in and modernize its fleet with state-of-the-art, next generation aircraft. Across its domestic and global network, Delta took delivery of 43 new aircraft in 2023 that were on average 28% more fuel-efficient per seat mile than aircraft retired since 2019.

Delta plane catches fire in Seattle in dramatic new video

A new video has captured the moment the front of a Delta plane burst into flames after landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport last week. 

The Airbus A321neo had just arrived Monday from Cancun, Mexico when the 189 passengers onboard were ordered to evacuate on emergency slides due to a fire in the plane’s nose area, according to KOMO News. 

"I think people responded to that with panic, there was a little bit of jostling in the aisles to get to the exit," passenger Ashwin Menon told the station. "But overall it was a pretty smooth evacuation process." 

Officials say an electrical cord that the plane plugged into after landing generated sparks which caused the fire, KOMO News reports.

The plane’s doors then open up and passengers are seen streaming out of the aircraft, with some walking onto its wings in order to reach a staircase down to the tarmac. 

US AIRLINES SUE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, PUSH BACK ON FEE DISCLOSURE RULE  

First responders are later seen gathering around the front of the plane. 

"During deplaning on the evening of May 6, the crew of Flight 604 from Cancun to Seattle witnessed smoke in the aircraft nose area after plugging into ground electrical power," a Delta spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement. "Out of an abundance of caution, slides were deployed and passengers still on board deplaned via the rear of the aircraft."

"Passengers were fully evacuated, and those deplaned to the ramp returned to the terminal via the ramp stairs," the spokesperson added. Congress passed its air travel overhaul. Here’s what that means for WA

Congress passed a $105 billion bill Wednesday reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration, a must-pass piece of legislation that funds the agency overseeing air travel in the United States.

Within the 1,000-plus-page bill are several updates to rules governing air travel and aviation that will have direct impacts on aerospace companies like Boeing and the millions of passengers who travel through U.S. airports each day.

Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., said the bill delivers “big wins” for Americans. Cantwell, chair of the Senate commerce committee, was one of the lead negotiators on the bill, along with U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Everett, ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. They were joined by Republican counterparts Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, R-Mo.

Here’s what’s changing, and not changing, under the FAA reauthorization bill:

Refunds: Passengers are entitled to a refund if their flight is canceled or delayed — three hours for a domestic flight or six for an international flight — and they choose not to rebook or accept travel credits. Under the reauthorization bill, airlines will automatically issue the refunds. This codifies Department of Transportation regulation on refunds announced last month. Families who sit together on a flight won’t be charged fees to do so.

Boeing 767 freighters extension at Everett plant: The bill includes a provision that would grant Boeing five additional years to continue building 767 freighters at its Everett plant. Boeing had been expected to phase out the plane in 2027 because it doesn’t comply with international emissions rules. Boeing can build the cargo carriers until 2033 under the provision, which was first reported by The Air Current.

Air traffic controller shortage: The FAA is required to improve its staffing standards and set targets for hiring to address a shortage of air traffic controllers. The FAA had 13,865 controllers in 2023 and wants to hire approximately 3,000 more. In Washington state, air traffic control centers are approximately 88 controllers short — towers are about 75% staffed, according to Cantwell’s office.

Updated recording devices: All commercial planes will be required to have recording devices in the cockpit that can store 25 hours of audio instead of current devices that only record for two hours. Lawmakers repeatedly cited the Alaska Airlines flight in January where a panel blew out as the flight climbed out of Portland as one reason for the updated recording device. In that instance, the cockpit recording in the moments after the blowout was overwritten.

Accessibility: The reauthorization requires the FAA to look into whether it’s economically and financially feasible to have seating arrangements on planes that accommodate passengers with wheelchairs in the main cabin. It also includes a provision that the FAA improve its evacuation standards — the current standards require that all passengers be able to evacuate within 90 seconds, but lawmakers argue that testing doesn’t take into account full flights or passengers with disabilities. The Muscular Dystrophy Association called the bill the most significant improvement in air travel for people living with disabilities in nearly 40 years.

“The FAA reauthorization is an important step to creating an equitable, safe, and dignified travel experience for people with neuromuscular and related disabilities,” MDA President and CEO Donald S. Wood said in a news release. 

Research, workforce development and education programs: The reauthorization bill continues the operations of the FAA’s Centers of Excellence program, which provides training and research through partnerships with schools including the University of Washington and Washington State University. The bill increases funding to $60 million per year for grants to recruit and grow the aviation workforce; $12 million will be dedicated to an aviation education program to recruit and keep members of underrepresented communities within the aviation industry.

Reagan National Airport slots: One of the most hotly debated issues over months of negotiations had nothing to do with safety oversight or consumer protections. Instead, lawmakers fought over whether to add additional long-haul flights at the primarily short-haul Reagan National Airport outside Washington, D.C. Lawmakers who opposed the change said their colleagues were sacrificing safety to add direct flights to their home states. Alaska Airlines already operates a flight to Reagan from Seattle, so it’s unlikely any of those slots would go to another Seattle flight.

Eva is one of the top airlines in Asia... but often are over priced. Finally found a reasonable rate.

My original flight was rescheduled & EVA did a good job rescheduling my flight & connecting flight.

The plane from SNA wouldn’t start after 5 tries. The team gave me an option of flying direct from LAX and giving me a Lyft ride there! Perfect!

Had a broken tray in business class. Crew just shrugged it off.

Everything was great except for the seat. The backrest would not stay in the upright position.

public website still broken for years randomly blocking browsers with privacy options active after loading a page maybe once. check-in on laptop was almost impossible but eventually randomly worked. had to print pass at airport since couldn't get back in to load digital pass on mobile firefox or chrome. red eye flight so smooth onboarding, plenty of room to spread out, easy offboarding. onboard wifi instructions mention vpn can cause problems connecting but fails to also mention private dns. no printed or built in menu list, seems weird to require personal device to point at qr code link for menu which does not even allow direct ordering. people with health condition risk related dietary restrictions trying to avoid for example cholesterol and sugar are left guessing what they can order either way without nutritional info highlights (cranberry juice was minute maid cocktail with as much suger as typical can of soda). tap to pay wasn't working and always seems sketchy to manually enter card info. good movie variety, so limited tv was okay.

Bag drop off was slow and annoying. Only 2 agents at the entire delta desk, and no one directing traffic for what line to be in, many confused people slowed down the process. Boarding was fine. Seats in Delta comfort plus were fine. Snacks were great! Definitely a bonus. The entertainment system was awful — old, slow, not responsive, and completely unable to play games due to some kind of error. But on the other hand, thank you to Delta for the free WiFi. That made it better.

Flight diverted in SD. Later take off in Seattle by 1.3hrs

Crew was not friendly when I went to request a seat change.

There were choices for the snacks. Good choices and tasty lunch and breakfast as well.

The flight crew was amazing. I’m very tall and they moved me to an exit row unsolicited!!! Amazing service.

No lounge access with “United First” ticket. False alarm about late flight, jeopardizing connection. Wrong meal. Loose power socket would not hold plug, could not charge device. In-flight access to text messaging did not work. Toilet seat on plane would not stay up.

We ended up with seats in the very back. So they did not recline. Have no idea why, we reserved and checked in very early. The isles were very narrow and the seats had very little leg room. But they did give us water, and a snack.

Check in etc was very good. As for on the plane, it was like flying in a freezer. It was so cold, i have flown for years and never been so cold on a plane. Staff on board said its always cold when flying which is a load of rubbish. They wouldnt put any heating on and now i have the flu because of this .

I’ve had a couple flights this week on United that were delayed by an hour or more

Surprisingly easy! I was hesitant to try this, but the cost swayed me. I actually felt like I had less stress than all the taxiing and possible delays that occur with short regional flights where you spend less time in the air than getting to and from the plane..

This flight was delayed multiple times and eventually canceled around 2-3ish. Original take off time was around 10:30am. By 3, there were no other options out of Houston, so stuck in Houston for from 3pm - 11am the next day.

Should have video screens Plane audio was poor and without wired connection hard to understand crew. Should serve more than just cups of water and pretzels on six hour flight. Did not see crew rest of flight. Fix charging sockets to retain charging blocks.

I paid $380 for my one-way ticket from California to Minnesota. The fair did not include online check-in. I received instructions from their app to check in at a kiosk. At the kiosk, the boarding pass would not print until an actual person came to verify that I had a personal item and not a carry-on item, On the plane, the person next to me was drunk and allowed to continue to order alcohol. United is garbage I’d rather fly spirit.

The plane was dirty and the in seat air wasn't blowing as planes usually do.

Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept.

Flight attendant was incredible. Very efficient, friendly and pleasant. Patricia was one of the best I have ever seen. Please give her a big raise!

LIT to DFW - 3 hours late; the entire plane had been boarded before they told us there was a delay due to a weather-related ground stop in Dallas. DFW to MAY - 2+ hours late due to A/C needing to be repaired after everyone had boarded, then when we finally reach the runway, the First Officer timed out and we had to taxi all the way back to the gate and wait for a new one. I arrived in New Orleans 5+ hours later than I should have. Return flights were completely cancelled; rebooked through the app to fly through CLT instead of DFW. MSY to CLT had no issues, but CLT to LIT was delayed 1.25 hrs because flight attendants had not arrived to the airport yet. At least they didn’t make us all sit on the plane to wait for them. I should have driven.

Tray table was filthy when I sat down. I needed to have someone come clean it because there was food and stains on it WiFi didn’t work after paying for in-flight WiFi. Food was terrible and was not filling at all Chicken was rubbery Flight attendant had an attitude, interrupted me and wasn’t able to answer basic questions about the food selection such as “does the chicken have red sauce in it”. If your flight attendants are not going to know what is in the meals so we can make an educated decision based on dietary restrictions, they shouldn’t be on the plane. My 1.5 year old niece was sleeping and dropped her binkie. I went on the ground under the chairs looking for it. It was at that time that she came up to me as I’m CLEARLY on all 4s with a flashlight and said “I need to get by”. I said one moment please I’m getting something from under the seat (while my head was literally under the seat). Her reply was “no you need to move now” and proceeded to almost push me out of the way. I looked up and all I saw was her toes under my eyes. When I looked in front of me, her private parts were inches away from my face. I then made a comment “you couldn’t waited 2 seconds?” and her response was, “no I need to use the bathroom”. I understand that and would never want to be the reason someone couldn’t get to the bathroom but I was under the seat. She could’ve gone around the other way instead of harassing me, basically placing her private parts on my head and borderline pushing me out of the way. You don’t pay that much for this deplorable experience. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had on American. I will be absolutely thinking twice and thrice about flying American Airlines again. I would rather pay more to fly delta because at least I know their WiFi will work and their flight attendants won’t have a shitty attitude for no reason, nor will they act the way this woman did. Unacceptable.

Liked - nothing. Disliked - delayed 35+ min sitting on the plane. Caused me to miss my connection in Charlotte. American Airlines is the worst US Air Carrier company with atrocious customer service.

Worst situation ever! I booked my tickets for this trip on Alaska Airlines. I guess AA is a partner and we flew nonstop from Eugene to PHX on an AA jet. I had to pay for luggage from PHX to EUG. And this was an Alaska Airlines reservation paid for with Alaska airlines credit card! Got to the PHX airport and was not able to check bags because of some weird issue with the AA software. My reservation had to be the-entered by the agent. I will never pick another American Airlines flight on the Alaska Airlines website. While on vacation, I tried to upgrade our seats for the trip home. The request just buffered and never went through. I tried four times and was charged four times on my credit card. The card was charged but the seats were never changed. What a wreck!

Left from gate 30 minutes before flight. Never been late to a flight ever. It says 15 minutes before explicitly on the ticket.

I like the boarding process, it was fast. The seat doesn’t have a TV for a long flight and food wasn’t served, just snacks.

Use planes with TVs on flights over 4 hours. The free entertainment was a cheap in between solution for a very long flight that you don't even bother providing meals or decent snacks.

Even though we left CMI late, we mostly made up the time.

Delayed almost 4 hours for a 45 minute flight with no explanation.

Seriously need to improve the time schedule and the plans

Great TV, easy boarding, wonderful ground crew and flight crew.

Pretty good service and US Migratory officers providing services in Canada was awesome, because the arrival was quick and smooth

Rude Customer Service at checkin, 90 minute limit in flight check in is too strict. I was in line for 30 minutes because of slow/insufficient workers. Somewhere I got to the the counter of course the employee warned me about the 90 minutes. People were cutting the lines. No one did anything.

Rouge needs to offer seats with better pitch in economy. Many sick people on a full flight.

Overall, I would have to say my experience with Air Canada was mediocre their DC tens. Need to be updated not comfortable at all. Only one out of my four flights was decent. The staffing was very nice. Going through customs in Montreal was quick and easy. Air Canada has room for improvement with their facilities.

It took 66 hours to get from Seattle to Tel Aviv. As a minor, I was left for more than 12 hours in Toronto and Frankfurt without hotel and food vouchers. It took 5 layovers. It was insane and not okay

Flew SEA-CA, then CA-NRT. First flight was short but very uncomfortable, dirty, and had very small overhead storage space. The seats and fans were not cleaned and had visible dirt on them. Second flight was perfect.

Everything was great. I really like how they had their safety film set up showing you the beauty of the country.

My experience was pretty frustrating because the first leg of my flight on United (though booked through Air Canada) was delayed causing me to miss my connecting flight on Air Canada. This could have been an easy solve as there was a direct flight later that morning via Air Canada that they easily could have put me on which would have only gotten me to my destination 2 1/2 hours later but because United and Air Canada don’t seem to have good communication they gave me the run around both telling me to talk with the other which I did three times to no avail. I ended up taking the delayed flight and getting on a new connecting flight which ended up getting me to my destination 6 hours later and I missed the event I was planning to go to this evening.
