It was a great experience. This tour really made the trip for us. AJ was our tour guide and he was extremely personable, experienced and insightful in ice cave and Iceland in general, being a local himself. He had lot of fun stories and facts, and kept us engaged right from the get go in the jeep ride. The ice cave was spectacular, we would never have learnt or experienced Iceland in this eyeopening manner if not for the tour. It was important because it was not only aesthetic, but also bore great responsibility on us to take care of the planet seeing how global warming is affecting nature. AJ gave us an extremely humorous and knowledgeable geology session after the ice cave. He has great photography skills on his Nokia too. Anyone would be lucky to have AJ as the tour guide. It would have been better if the time spent in the ice cave was longer as it was shorter than expected!

So glad I booked this Self-Drive Tour with Guide to Iceland. They quickly helped me with last-minute changes prior to our trip and we didn't have any issues with our bookings during the trip, we just had to show up and enjoy ourselves. It made the whole process so much less stressful and I will definitely be booking with them in the future. Also, this tour hit a lot, if not all of the primary tourist destinations. There is a good bit of driving, but honestly, Iceland is so beautiful my husband and I didn't mind at all. Thank you, Guide To Iceland!

After working a few days in Reykjavik, I took the opportunity for this 14hour trip to at least get a flavor of Iceland. It was a wonderful day, the weather gods were with us and it was just perfect. Daniel was giving lots of backgrounds and stories, and even the music in the bus was in harmony with the tour ;) I had my camera with me and the stops were short to take lot of time for beautiful pictures and that is why for sure I will come back to this beautiful place on earth, and I will bring some quiet time with me. Thank you for this amazing day ☺️

Sharon

Our tour guide is wonderful. I really appreciate his work.

Visiting Jokulsarlon

Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon is a stunning attraction that is always a favourite of visitors and locals. The lagoon is made up of a mixture of fresh water and sea water and iconic for the giant icebergs that dominate the landscape. Standing at up to 30-metres tall, the icebergs are cast in contrasting milky whites and fantastic electric icy blues.

Breiðamerkurjökull glacier crawls forward with intimidating force and weight, collecting in its margins glacial deposits of black sand and gravel which make striking patterns on the ice and subsequent icebergs. As the glacier retreats, it continuously creates icebergs of over 1000-years old ice that are often patterned by ash from historical eruptions. No two iceberg are the same, and you could spend hours finding fascinating shapes with no end to photographic opportunities. However silly this sounds, please do not try to stand on the icebergs as it is extremely dangerous.

The lake started taking form around 1935 when the glacier began to recede due to warming temperatures and is now the deepest in Iceland at 248 m (814 ft). Over the last 15-years, the lake is said to have doubled in size, and it is predicted that as the glacier continues to recede, it will leave a dramatic fjord behind. Sadly, warming global temperatures and the shrinking of glaciers are especially visible and Iceland, providing only further impetus to catch these icy wonders while we can.

Jökulsárlón is conveniently located on the Highway 1 road between Skaftafell nature reserve and the picturesque town of Höfn. If you are driving the ring-road around Iceland, this is a stop you do not want to miss and a destination you will want to include if you are planning a visit to the South Coast. Many tour operators offer guided trips to the lagoon if you are not driving yourself, most often combined with other exciting attractions such as the waterfalls of South Iceland . If departing from Reykjavík in the winter, do consider how much you time you have, because although a fantastic destination for the northern lights, you may not want to drive all the way back to the capital in icy conditions in the dark.

You can enjoy this wonder of Iceland from the shore or if you would like to get up close and personal with these ancient icy giants you can take a zodiac boat or amphibious boat tour guided by an expert. Around the corner is the legendary Diamond Beach where the icebergs sometimes wash up, glistening in the light in stark contrast to the black sandy beach they upon which they rest.

The golden hours of sunset and sunrise are exceptional times to witness this ethereal lake, especially if you are passionate about photography. Whatever time you visit, you can spend hours mesmerised by the luminous ice, and you could return several times and always be guaranteed a unique scene.

Jökulsárlón is appropriate for any age and budget and is a guaranteed unforgettable experience leaving you in no doubt of why it is called the Crown Jewel of Iceland.

Jökulsárlón has been used as a Hollywood location for such movies as James Bond films A View to Kill and Die Another Day as well as Lara Croft Tomb Raider and has featured in popular US television show, The Amazing Race. It is easy to understand why as the serene procession of ice is hypnotising and the plentiful wildlife of seals and birds only adds to the wonder.

Before this tour, please meet at the café at Jökulsárlón 20 minutes before your departure, where you can exchange your vouchers for amphibian boat tickets. From here, you will proceed to board the amphibious vessel on land and wait for it to drive into the lagoon.

When immersed in the lagoon, with huge icebergs surrounding you from all angles, you will experience a different kind of beauty; this stunning environment is simply breathtaking.

You will spend 35-40 minutes exploring the glacier lagoon. Your English-speaking guide on board will tell you all about the area’s history and future. You will have an opportunity to taste the glacier ice; considering it is thought to be a thousand years old, this is quite a special experience.

As you cruise through the lagoon, you’ll probably see many seals. These adorable creatures call Jökulsárlón home, and they can often be seen playing in the water or sunbathing on the icebergs.

The glacier lagoon is considered by many to be the most beautiful sight in Iceland, and an amphibious boat is one of the best ways to view it in all its glory.

Chattanooga Ducks

This was our second trip on the Ducks. It is both entertaining and educational. I have never done anything in Chattanooga that I enjoyed more. A must for out of town guests. We plan to take some more friends in a few weeks! Captain Barry is fantastic!

We were aboard the General Bradley with our captain, a native Chattanoogan who has a vast knowledge of the local history, the city, the river, and the craft. Very informative. He let the kids drive while on the water. Gave some info about local eateries and places to visit. I highly recommend this tour.

While we were not quite sure what to expect, we had a blast both on land and in the water on our tour. Our guide and driver was knowledgeable and entertaining, which made the whole experience a pleasure. Highly recommend!

This is a GREAT historical tour wrapped up with some humor and just plain fun. If you are an adventurous young person, you just may be able to be "captain for a day". This is a great way to round out your sightseeing in Chattanooga, with a cruise on the Tennessee River on a DUCK.

We were a very small tour, but had so much fun. Our guide was super informative and we learned all about the history of the area and the Tennessee River. The tour was on time and definitely worth the money. We would do it again.

Taking a tour on a duck is always a good time and Chattanooga Ducks is no exception! The tour guide was super friendly and had tons of interesting information and history about the history as we toured around. He also had a wealth of information about all the things to do and see in the city during our trip!

"This is a great way to see the highlights of the city as well as getting to know a little history of Ketchikan. The driver and guide were entertaining and friendly. Given the fact that our boat/car was one of the newer ones in the fleet made us very relaxed and assured. Definitely worthwhile."

"My family thoroughly enjoyed our tour today! We hopped on a few minutes after we got off our ship and took the tour before we did anything else. Glad we did it this way as it takes you on a great little tour around Ketchikan and made it easy to know where you may want to walk back to afterwards. Our Captain Peggy and Narrator Rudy were both excellent and kept the information and jokes coming for the duration of the tour! An entertaining way to spend your time in Ketchikan."

"Our duck tour was fabulous! Capt. Andrea and Jacob were like Abbott & Costello.. I never saw my Mom laugh so much and it was exactly what she needed after some difficult times.. It was scenic, relaxing, informative and our Capt. and guide were amazing! I will be sure to send anyone and everyone I know on this particular tour! Hopefully they will get Jacob and Capt. Andrea as well.. Thank you so very much! Kurt Gaydos, Long Island, NY"

"This tour is so much fun and full of information. Our Captain Peggy and guide Nick make an incredible working pair. They keep it full of fun facts and stories. The tour lasts 1.5 hours showing you the town of Ketchikan and then shifting to the water. I would do this tour again, given the chance."
