How to Make the Most Out of Your Campus Visit

Planning a campus visit is essential during your college decision process as you determine what college or university is the best fit for you. There is a lot to take into consideration during your visit: academics, campus culture, and student life—just to name a few. Visiting different campuses allows you to experience first-hand the differences that will factor into your final decision.  Before you plan your visit to Auburn University, check out the list below to make the most of your time on campus.

Schedule a Campus Tour

The best way to learn about Auburn University’s rich tradition, campus life, and academic excellence is to schedule an official campus tour . Led by a current student (our “Student Recruiters”), the 75-minute walking tour provides a great overview of what Auburn has to offer and helps you get more familiar with the layout of our campus. Don’t be surprised if current students say “ War Eagle !” as you pass. It’s what we do as members of the “Auburn Family” to greet each other on campus— and around the world!

Visit Your College

An important part of a campus visit is exploring your academic area of interest. Across all our 12 colleges, there are opportunities to schedule department tours or meetings with a professional staff member. It is important to schedule these meetings or tours before you arrive on campus due to limited availability. During this time with your specific college, you can ask any questions you have about your scholarly interests, explore the different classroom settings, and learn more about the opportunities available in your major.

Auburn Campus Tours

Throughout the calendar year, not just during regularly scheduled semesters, Auburn’s Office of University Recruitment provides free guided tours for those aiming to get to know the campus a little more. And, while Auburn campus tours are geared toward prospective students, future Tigers, and visiting family members, they’re entirely free to the general public. Each tour provides a look into the past, as well as a glimpse into the future. There’s no better place to start and finish your Auburn University visit than right here at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center , the only on-campus lodging option.

Guided Auburn Campus Tours

Most Auburn campus tours last approximately 75 minutes. This guided walking experience focuses solely on the university’s absorbing history, many long-lasting traditions, and insights into student life. The Office of Recruitment provides three daily Auburn campus tours, Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Highlights on the tour include legendary Samford Hall , Ralph Brown Draughon Library , the Student Center , and nearly a dozen more architectural masterpieces. You’ll be urged to pick up a copy of the latest version of The Auburn Plainsman , the university’s award-winning student newspaper. For those who wish to explore the campus without the aid of a student worker, don’t forget to print out the self-guided tour brochure . Similarly to most student-led Auburn tours, the self-guided audio-based expedition includes stops at Samford, the library, and various picturesque residence halls.

Campus Highlights

Not every one of the ground’s highlights is covered during the guided (or self-guided) Auburn University campus tour. Thus, we typically recommend visiting these five distinct sights during your stay: the Donald E. Davis Arboretum , Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art , Lovelace Hall of Honor , Auburn Arena , and Jordan-Hare Stadium . Most folks also stroll into Toomer’s Drugs for a world-famous lemonade before or after an on-campus Auburn visit. And don’t forget to shop along College Street to purchase some burnt orange and navy blue attire. Remember: during busy seasons, most Auburn campus tours fill up quickly! So, book now.

Auburn Campus Tours - the Good, the Funny, and the Unexpected

Student Recruiters show future Auburn students around campus during a tour Feb. 18, 2019, in Auburn, Ala.

With campus tours running around the clock at Auburn, it's not uncommon to pass by a cheery student recruiter and yell a passionate, "War Eagle!" Many Auburn students admit to this and more, making campus tours much more interesting than they may seem to be from the outside.

Jack Self, junior in business analytics, talks about why he became a student recruiter.

“I just wanted to give back to Auburn. I had loved it all throughout my freshman year, so to be able to show people that I love it was something that I really wanted to do,” said Self.

However, some tours do not go exactly as planned. Auburn students passing by, young tourists and residents of Auburn all keep the jobs of student recruiters interesting.

“There was one time I was at Langdon talking about why you shouldn’t step on the seal, and there was some random person that just walked over the seal and yelled, ‘Roll Tide’ and kept walking,” Self said.

Non-Auburn fans do not know how to react when touring Auburn’s campus.

“One time I was on a tour and this guy came in in all Georgia stuff and after every single thing I said, he compared Auburn to UGA,” said Campbell Morgan, a senior in apparel merchandising.

Sometimes, the situation arises from an overly-curious parent. “There was one mom who asked me basically every single tree we passed by what kind of tree it was,” said Self.

Other times, getting pictures for Instagram is much more important than the tour itself.

“There was one girl like my second week of going on tours, she took pictures in front of every single building, of her just trying to look as good as she could, even in front of like the Haley Center and the buildings that were under construction,”  said Self.

According to Juan Contreras, a junior in biomedical sciences, his favorite campus tour moment featured a hungry tourist and a nearby McDonalds.

“I had a golf cart tour one time, and they were insisting on going to McDonalds,” said Contreras.

When asked if the constant "War Eagles" around campus during tours are planned, Self explained that it's mostly by chance.

“No, they’re never planned. The majority of the time, it’s people that I know, but the best ones are always just like random people that will say "War Eagle" to us, especially when it’s professors that walk by, too," said Self.

There is much more to Auburn campus tours than one can see. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes, and student recruiters serve the school by giving their time and energy to invest in future Auburn students. Student recruiters live out the, “I believe in Auburn and love it,” mentioned in the Creed. Next time a campus tour comes by, help out Auburn's student recruiters by yelling out a "War Eagle!" to welcome in the new additions to the Auburn family.

Auburn to open applications for summer, fall 2023 on Aug. 1

Article body.

After receiving another record number of applicants for this fall, Auburn University will open its application season for next year’s summer and fall semesters on Aug. 1.

Applications can be submitted at that time  online  or through the Common App system—a powerful, online college application platform that serves more than 3 million applicants, teachers, counselors and advisors throughout the nation and world.

The application season comes amid another year of record applicants for the upcoming fall semester. For this fall, Auburn received more than 50,000 freshman and transfer applications—a record increase of more than 67% compared to the previous two fall semesters—with more than 31,153 applying through the Common App.

“It is exciting to see how many students are demonstrating a strong interest in joining the Auburn Family,” said Joffery Gaymon, Auburn’s vice president for enrollment. “As we focus on efforts of greater access to underserved areas, we are working hard to build connections and further grow our applicant numbers.”

For summer and fall 2023 semesters, Auburn is continuing to extend some modifications to its existing admissions procedures in light of standardized testing sites remaining limited amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. Students who were able to take a standardized test can use their scores for the admissions process as in years past. Applicants with at least a 3.6 grade-point average who were unable to test will be reviewed holistically through Auburn’s test-optional pathway.

Any valedictorian or salutatorian from an accredited Alabama high school with 50 or more graduates will also qualify for admission. Auburn selects its freshman class through an evaluation that includes a holistic review of the student’s academic performance. First-year students accepted for admission by   mid-January   receive automatic consideration. A scholarship application is not required.

To apply to Auburn for any of the 2023 semesters, go  here . Information about in-person and virtual campus tours—including academic department visits and tours of housing and Auburn’s Recreation and Wellness Center—can be found  here.

Small Town, Big Experience.

There’s something very special about this place..

You’ll sense it when you stand under the oaks at Toomer’s Corner. You’ll feel it when you’re greeted by your future classmates on the red brick sidewalks that snake through campus. You’ll know it when you hear “War Eagle” shouted across Samford Lawn.

Your campus visit to Auburn will feel both familiar and exciting: like coming home again for the first time.

Scheduling a Campus Visit

What to expect from your campus tour..

We start with a 30-minute information session, where you’ll learn about:

  • Academic offerings at Auburn
  • The admissions process
  • Scholarships
  • The Auburn community

Next, a 75-minute walking tour, led by a Student Recruiter, will focus on Auburn’s history, tradition, and student life. Don’t be surprised if current students say “hey” or “War Eagle!” as you pass. It’s in our DNA to be welcoming to all who visit campus.

  • Do not make flight reservations until after your campus tour registration is confirmed
  • Self-Guided Tour Brochures will be available for walkups with no reservation
