Faulty crib replaced within 24hrs

The original crib I had was faulty (tilted to one side when our baby rolled on to their side) but having emailed Bababing, they called me and arranged for a replacement to be sent on next day delivery! Second crib came with additional poppers on the fabric base which has stopped the tilt.

Very disappointed first time customer

Very disappointed! First time buyer from this company. Emailed twice now to ask for shop with return and no acknowledgement or response! Unable to locate my order online otherwise I would have no need to make contact. Overall bad experience especially when purchase was quick and easy. Unhappy Customer.

Mixed experience but good sized bag

Purchased the Mani changing bag in November 2022, started using it in February 2023. By June the fabric around the top of the bag had begun to wear through, and two months later the stitching holding the back straps has come undone. Contacted the company in June, and although we had some communication issues, the team were lovely at resolving the problems I had. Good sized bag, getting the change mat back in can be a little bit of a faff, lots of space for all the stuff you need for bubba.

Reply from Bababing Ltd

Hi Erin. Thanks for your comments. I replied to your email on the 23rd June explaining that I was happy to offer a replacement for you when the next stock arrives or whether you would prefer me to dispatch a different colour for you. I am yet to receive a reply to my email. If you would like to discuss please call our team on 01535 606871. Kind Regards, Richard

Very poor and slow service

Very poor and slow service. Didn’t process order until being prompted 7 days later. Using Royal Mail as courier and with slow dispatch will probably mean this won’t arrive in time for Christmas.

Date of experience : December 09, 2022

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that your order arrived late. We work hard to deliver the best service that we possible can and on this occasion we couldn't avoid disruption as a result of the Royal Mail strikes at this time. I apologise for any inconvenience. Regards, Rick @ Bababing

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service. Ordered my granddaughter's items at 7pm Wednesday evening. I had a 'thankyou for your order' call at 9am Thursday from Richard. All items delivered by 2pm Friday. All present and correct and very impressed with the quality of everything. Thank you Bababing.

Thank you so much for your kind review Janet! Anything you need do not hesitate to get in touch. Many Thanks, Richard

I purchased a Bababing changing bag…

I purchased a Bababing changing bag last year ready for the arrival of my little one this March. The bag is lovely in design however I do not find it practical or functional, the changing mat takes up so much space in the bag leaving not much space for anything else. Everything seems so crammed in and you have to sometimes empty the bag to get to anything in the bottom, I have had to purchase another bag and now around £40 out of pocket from a bag I purchased in which I now do not use.

Can’t fault the customer service

Really pleased with the customer service of this company. Had a slight issue with our Next to Me crib and after an email, I was sent a new mattress and baseboard to help with the issue. There was no charge for any of this and Richard was very responsive and helpful when emailing. The items were sent out quickly meaning the issue was resolved in no time. Overall really happy with the crib and the customer service I received.

Awful customer service and awful product

Brought a baby bouncer which has barely been used. Emailed and asked (brought in January and warranty is only 6 months, now i can see why) was asked to send video and photos which i did, no reply. Would never buy again, awful customer service and a terrible product.

Date of experience : September 04, 2022

Hi Emily. Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your experience with Bababing. I can see that my colleague had replied to your query as we do with all queries - we are always working hard to deliver the best service that we can and we would not knowingly ignore a customer concern. The bouncer is one of our best selling products and we are proud to have received many happy customer reviews and testimonials. Many Thanks Rick @ Bababing

Bababing changing bag- poor design and difficult to use

I purchased a Bababing changing bag whilst pregnant. Having now used the bag for two months I am really disappointed. The bag itself is so stiff at the top and the zip is so tough you cannot close it with one hand. Getting in and out whilst out with baby is extremely difficult. The bag carries a lot of things but most of these end up right at the bottom and you end up having to empty the whole bag to get to what you need. The straps that come with the bag to attach it to the pram are useless. They are awkward to attach as you have to almost tie a knot for it to attach on to the handle. The clips are also very tricky to open whilst holding the bag and trying to get everything in place. The attachment to keep the two handle together at the top of the bag broke on the first use. Bababing did however send a replacement for this. I would not purchase this bag again and had I not had it for a significant period of time before using it I would have returned it!

Great Customer Service

So i place an order for a pram bundle and it stated that it would be dispatched in June, i thought this would be ok as we are due in July. After the order i contacted them to see when in June and they said it would be the very end. This was a bit too tight in case the baby comes early. In the same response though Richard offered a great solution that really went above and beyond what i expected. After further emails he offered another solution that really put our minds at ease. I would say this is the best customer service i have received in a long time. I have not tested their products yet but i would definitely recommend based on the service they offered me thanks Steven Update: Hi Richard I've emailed you a few times but no reply. Our due date is one week away and not had our delivery but I see the items are in stock and are offering next day delivery. Any chance our items can be dispatched ASAP?

I purchased a next to me crib for my 5…

**UPDATE 20 August 2023** I am most dissatisfied to hear today on Facebook that 2 other parents have similar issues with the safety and performance of this product. We were communicating our experiences with each other and suddenly the post has been taken down and I cannot message the company. So the company think it’s ethical to prevent people sharing their honest feedback to protect the companies reputation. I corresponded with the most senior person on 15th august and today 20th august yet to receive a resolution I purchased a next to me crib for my 5 week old in June 2023. The next to me crib is not like your traditional crib ie prior to the breathable netting there is fabric. When my daughter was placed in this crib she immediately rolled to the right hand side where the drop down part of the crib is. I let her in this crib under supervision and her nose and mouth was squished against fabric the whole time as the crib was causing her to roll into this position. Therefore creating a suffocating hazard for baby. I submitted a request on their web form asking who I can contact regarding this complaint and received no response. After posting negative reviews on google and Amazon I did receive a response from somebody. This was on the 29th June. Since responding to the team member Richard on 29th June I have had no further communication nor resolution from the company. They tried to explain that the crib is missing a piece of equipment which is causing the issue. So my question: What quality control checks are the company doing that they think it’s ok to supply products that can cause a suffocation hazard?! It is now August 2023. After asking publicly on social media when I will be hearing back from the company I received a response telling me that (conveniently) they hadn’t received communication from me. I sent evidence to them showing I replied via email and surprise surprise the company are ghosting me again.

Date of experience : June 29, 2023

Hi Amber. Thank you for getting in touch. I received your email enquiry on Thursday 29th June at 8:20AM. I responded to your query at 9:27AM that same morning requesting a proof of purchase and asking if you can forward a copy of your initial email - as we have not received it. To date I have not received a response to this email. (I am happy to provide evidence of this via our web/ IT team). It is certainly not convenient for us to avoid communicating with customers - quite the opposite. I have worked in customer service for many years and it is much more convenient to receive a query, solve it to the satisfaction of the customer and the company, avoid negative reviews and unhappy customers and create a positive customer service experience. With regard to quality control checks - all our our products are tested and approved to UK and EU requirements. We supply into many key retailers such as John Lewis, Boots and Amazon. My suggestion on email was that we have a support board and an alternative mattress for the crib which some customers prefer and offered to send these out to you once you had confirmed proof of purchase. The support board and the alternative mattress are not key components missing from the crib - they are additional and alternative features in addition to basic crib package. Clearly, I haven't received your emails and we have a breakdown in communication here. I would advise that you contact us by phone on 01535 606871 so that we can resolve this for you. If I do not hear from you this morning I will give you a call. Kind Regards, Richard

Faulty Product, Material Dye Transfer, Customer Service Non-Existent

Customer service is non-existent. The Raffi travel system we purchased hasn’t even lasted 18 months (despite being well maintained). The pram hood railing snapped and we’ve had difficulty dismantling it every.single.time. The worst fault is the dye from the pram seat lining transferring; subsequently ruining 5 items of my child’s clothing. After contact BabaBing’s info email address, Jamie Robinson responded and his attitude was very snidey and abrasive, alluding to the legitimacy of these faults solely on the (alleged basis) that “this has never happened before”. I was asked to provide videos & photos of the dye transferring (to which I did; showing the transfer on a white paper towel, along with providing photos of the broken hood rail). As a result of providing this, I was told a replacement seat will be sent out to me. 5 days later with no updates, I emailed again asking when to expect the replacement to which the Technical Director (Nick Robinson) responded. Nick requested for the seat to be returned BEFORE a replacement was sent out, as they wanted to evaluate & inspect why this material was staining. I reminded Nick how BabaBing can do their R&R on their own time not mine as it was deemed reasonable I go days without a pram for my 16 month daughter (which she uses twice a day to sleep in). I suggested a temporary replacement was provided before I had the seat collected however, BabaBing don’t provide a service like this - I am to go without, resulting in major disruption to my child’s routine. Because no reasonable alternative is being provided, I am left with no other option but to follow up with Trading Standards due to the delay / refusal of a replacement of a item that is truly unfit for purpose and unsatisfactory, despite providing suitable evidence of this. Absolutely appalled!

Nick at Bababing has poor customer service

You know those companies that create (what appears) to be compelling consumer products from the outside but are let down by customer service antithesists behind the product who have no interest in behaving with a morality code of any reasonably-thinking human gauge. Nick, from Bababing, behaved absolutely terribly when I ordered a baby bag for our impending birth. Firstly, it arrived late. This was before the strikes so there's no blame that can be passed on there. When it did arrive, it arrived by being "delivered" outside against a wall (with no notification to me) and when I learned of this, just one day before our planned trip to hospital, the bag had disappeared. I informed Nick of this and he first tried to say I had only one choice available which was a resend. As I was due to go into hospital, we no longer needed the bag afterwards so I declined and insisted on a refund. We went out that day to buy a bag elsewhere for our stay in hospital. Nick, then accepted that I had consumer rights and said I'd have to wait 6 weeks for a refund whilst he deals with Royal Mail. I disagreed with this, because my refund isn't based on any resolution with their third party deliverers, I should receive mine immediately and he then take it up with Royal Mail with why they think delivering a bag outside a wall is considered safely delivered. I then took this up with PayPal to push for a refund and after some debate with Nick making his case that he too thinks that when a courier delivers items outside and leaves an expensive item unattended, that it's considered fair game and a fair delivery (absolutely bizarre human logic) PayPal shockingly (with their terrible automated review system) agreed with Bababing and declined the dispute. I then followed up with PayPal with a Police Report and evidenced that this item had been stolen/lost and finally got my Buyer Protection status with PayPal activated and received a full refund, 2 months later. Nick at Bababing could have saved all this hassle by being a fair human-being but instead, he decided to go down the route of being an absolute sausage. Terrible customer service and a complete discredit to an emerging consumer brand.

Best travel system for babies 2023: Car seat, carrycot and pushchair in one

  • Catherine Hufton
  • Kat de Naoum

bababing raffi travel system reviews

Getting out and about with your little one needn’t be a faff, with our pick of the best travel systems that offer the perfect solution

Finding the best travel system for your baby can feel a little daunting. After all, there’s plenty to consider when making your choice – they need to be able to transport your little one safely; they need to be comfortable to manoeuvre, while remaining relatively portable; and they need to be compatible with carrycots, car seats, and toddler seats to accommodate your baby from birth well into their toddler years. With an array of models vying for your attention, there’s a lot to think about with, potentially, a significant cost.

As is the case when you buy almost anything, what you pick will often come down to your own circumstances and lifestyle. If you travel frequently and use public transport often, then a travel system that’s lightweight and folds down with minimal effort will likely be a priority. If you’re more of an off-road adventurer with a dog or two to walk, then sturdy suspension and durable wheels will top your list of requirements. If size or road conditions aren’t a concern, then you might be free to prioritise style over more practical elements.

Whatever your needs, we’ve put together a brief buying guide with some FAQs and rated some of the top travel systems on the market to help you make the best choice for you and your family.

Best travel system: At a glance

  • Best luxury travel system: Bugaboo Fox 5 | £1,115
  • Best overall complete travel system:  Mamas & Papas Ocarro | £1,509
  • Best travel system for city living: Nuna Triv 4 Piece | £1,050
  • Best affordable travel system: KinderKraft XMoov 3-in-1 Travel System | £279

How to choose the best travel system for you

What is a travel system.

It’s a do-it-all pushchair with a modular design that allows you to slot in a carrycot, car seat or toddler seat as needed. The majority of models are presented in a variety of different packages, or bundles as they’re commonly known, ranging from the barebones with just the frame or stroller, right through to deluxe versions comprising everything from the carrycot, car seat, and accessories such as footmuffs, canopy, nappy bag, and even cup holder bundled as standard.

Do I need a travel system?

Not necessarily. You could instead choose to buy a separate pushchair with a carrycot, a stroller , a third-party car seat – or any combination of products that works for you. The appeal of a travel system is integration and the convenience that it brings.

Everything in a travel system is designed to work together, so it potentially means less overlap. For instance, you can just click the car seat onto the travel system chassis and push your baby around town, which saves you transferring your child from a car seat to a pushchair or cot.

What key features should I look for?

Size and weight are crucial, meaning it’s a good idea to go to a store or showroom to have a good play around with the models you’re considering. Will it fit in your boot and/or hallway? Can you carry it upstairs, if you live in a flat? Make sure you’re happy with the folding mechanism, too, since some are more tricky to operate than others.

Note that babies need to lie flat in a pram until they’re six months old, so you’ll need to ensure you’re happy with the size and comfort level of the carrycot. Don’t forget to check details such as whether it’s suitable for occasional overnight sleeping, too.

The size of the wheels is also important: big sturdy wheels are great if you walk a lot on rougher terrain, while slimmer wheels are better suited to city life. It’s worth noting the smaller details, too, such as built-in sunshades, buggy boards for older children, the size of the shopping basket and the stroller seat. Will the travel system accommodate your baby as they grow into a toddler, or will you need to spend more money further down the line? Can it accommodate two (or more) kids, if and when you have more?

How much should I spend?

It’s tempting to assume that the more expensive a travel system is, the better it will perform; but this isn’t necessarily the case. There are a variety of models on offer, at all kinds of price points (starting at around £300 and soaring to well over £1,000), so the best place to start will be to prioritise your main needs and work from there.

At the other end of the spectrum, while the high price of some of these travel systems may appear extortionate at first, factor in the cost of buying all the parts that feature in the bundle separately, and you may well find that an all-in-one travel system actually offers good value for money.

How we test travel systems

To test the best travel systems on the market, our reviewers spend several days putting each pram through its paces. As well as assessing how easy each travel system is to assemble, we also evaluate how it performs in everyday life, covering the school run, trips to the supermarket, as well as on public transport. We also consider extra details such as how easy it is to load and how well it fits into the boot of the car, and the amount of space it takes up in the hallway.

This real-life testing means we can highlight any areas that could prove problematic, or where a product truly shines. In addition, such testing allows us to more accurately categorise each travel system according to people’s different needs, such as storing in a small space, carrying up a flight of stairs, or navigating a muddy sports field. Finally, we include details such as the age range for which each travel system is suitable, the type of wheels it has, and its dimensions.

1. bugaboo fox 5: best luxury travel system.

bababing raffi travel system reviews

For those who wish to personalise their pram, they can choose from 12 different colourways and add-on many of the luxury Bugaboo accessories, such as the baby bag and cup holder. We recently tested the Bugaboo Fox 3, which similarly feels weightless to push and manoeuvre; but the Fox 5 is even more comfortable to use.

This is a great travel system to use right from your front door, taking you from the school run to out and about on all terrains. It’s a little big for folding down frequently as a result of its large wheels, and you may find lugging it in and out of the car a little annoying. Likewise, if you need to pull it up stairs and fold it down in a hallway, there are more lightweight travel systems that may be better. But if comfort and style are your main needs, and you have the space for it in your car and your home, this is one of the best travel systems we’ve tested.

bababing raffi travel system reviews

This bundle is also available with a carrycot and cushioned mattress that can be used from birth, a foot muff, changing bag, cup holder, baby blanket, Cybex Aton 5 Car Seat and the base fixing to fit it in the car. Overall, we found this pram super-easy to assemble and fold down, which will be music to the ears of any sleep-deprived new parent.

3. Cybex Priam Travel System: Best high-end travel system

bababing raffi travel system reviews

Suitable from birth, when it’s used with the carrycot included in this bundle, right up to when your child is four years old (or 22kg), this stroller can handle any on- and off-road terrain thanks to its rubber wheels and impressive all-wheel suspension that make for a super comfy, and quiet, ride.

Extra features include an SPF50+ canopy, a backrest pocket to store your smaller valuables, and a shopping basket that folds down when not needed. Almost everything you require comes in this bundle, except for the extension pack that replaces the front wheels with a pair of skis for when you head to Meribel.

Key specs – Age range : Suitable for 0 years to 22kg in weight; Wheels : All-terrain wheels; Folded dimensions : 83.5 x 51.5 x 31.5cm; Unfolded dimensions : 92-83 x 60 x 98.5-108cm; Weight : 12.6kg

4. Nuna Triv 4 Piece: Best travel system for city living

bababing raffi travel system reviews

The main pram in this travel system has an easy-to-fold design and a large storage basket underneath, while the spacious flip-fold seat features an adjustable leg rest that can easily accommodate a toddler up to the age of around three.

The additional carrycot can be attached for newborns and this bundle includes a Pipa Next i-Size car seat. The stroller also includes lots of thoughtful details such as a wallet slip at the back of the seat, attractive leather detailing and a peekaboo panel along the back of the canopy.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 22kg max; Wheels: Front swivel wheels; Folded dimensions: 32 x 52 x 65cm (LWH); Unfolded dimensions: 77-87 x 106-110cm (LH); Weight: 8.8kg (without canopy, armbar and insert)

5. Ickle Bubba Eclipse All-In-One: Best affordable travel system bundle

bababing raffi travel system reviews

The car seat comes with the Isofix car seat fitting system base that makes carrying the baby in and out of the car a breeze: this eliminates the need to faff around with a seat belt as the baby is already securely strapped into its 5-point car seat harness. Just clip the car seat into the Isofix’s two metal clip fixing points to lock it into place, and unclip to release. Other perks include a full winter footmuff, a smart baby bag that fits neatly on the back handle, an extendable UPF 50+ hood, puncture-proof, high-grip tyres and a wallet slip across the back of the buggy seat.

While the pram is lightweight and incredibly easy to push or lift up onto high pavements, that’s not to say it’s by any means a small buggy. In fact, it’s rather on the larger side, partly due to its bigger wheels which make it great for active families who love the great outdoors. It also, unfortunately, doesn’t fold down completely flat, which may be slightly cumbersome if you have limited storage space.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to approximately 4 years old; Wheels: Lockable front 360-degree swivel wheels; Folded dimensions: 58 x 80 x 37cm (WLH); Unfolded dimensions: 58 x 116 x 106cm (WLH); Weight: 8.6kg (chassis with wheels)

6. micralite getgo: best for affordable style and great design.

bababing raffi travel system reviews

If you enjoy long walks and trips into the countryside, the multi-terrain, puncture-proof tyres and dynamic four-wheel suspension will come in handy too. The carrycot is lined with a super soft antibacterial bamboo fabric and is fitted with an integrated pull-out sun visor. There’s also a built-in storage pocket for your purse and keys.

Once your baby has outgrown the carrycot, you can switch it out for the seat unit, which has adjustable calf support and a lie-flat design. We also love the extra details such as the extendable hood with UPF50 protection, zip-out airflow panel and pull-out sunshade.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 22kg; Wheels: Four-wheel suspension; Folded dimensions: 76 x 59 x 38cm (LWH); Unfolded dimensions: 72 x 59 x 89-105cm (LWH); Weight: 10.8kg

7. KinderKraft XMoov 3-in-1: Best affordable travel system

bababing raffi travel system reviews

A nappy bag with removable changing mat, a rain cover, cup holder, footmuff, extendable canopy and a height-adjustable handle are just some of the XMoov’s features, and the reclinable car seat has adjustable shoulder straps with protectors for the baby’s optimal safety and comfort.

For strolling, the all-terrain pumped wheels have a shock-absorbing mechanism allowing it to glide effortlessly on all kinds of roads, making it the perfect option whether you live in a busy city or in the country. The front wheels swivel and can be locked in position for solely going straight, while back wheel brakes have a simultaneous double clamp.

Key specs – Age range : Suitable for 0 years to 22kg in weight; Wheels : Pumped, all-terrain, locking, swivel, self-aligning; Folded dimensions : 92-116 x 110 x 60cm; Unfolded dimensions : 75 x 42 x 62cm ; Weight : 11.8-14kg

8. iCandy Peach 7: The most comfortable travel system

bababing raffi travel system reviews

While this pram is super-stylish, it’s also loaded with ultra-practical details such as the zipped pocket on the back of the seat, and the integrated stand-on board – which is invaluable if you have an older child. One of the other major pros about this pram is the comfort and security it offers your little one and the fact that it just makes a day-to-day routine feel much easier.

We really liked that the main bundle comes with everything you need to get started, including a carrycot, seat unit, chassis, removable ‘Pip-Zip’ bag, car seat adaptors and elevator adaptors. But you can also add on lots of personalised extras, such as the matching baby bag, footmuff and liner and cup holder, to really make it your own.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 25kg; Wheels: Puncture-proof, ultra-smooth rolling PU tyres; Folded Dimensions: No wheels (cm) L70 x W54 x D28; Weight: 12.9kg

9. BabaBing Raffi: Best iCandy alternative

bababing raffi travel system reviews

The travel bundle also comes with everything you need to navigate all four seasons, such as an adjustable forward- and rear-facing seat unit, a UPF50+ canopy, a spacious carry cot with a Kose Cool breathable lining, 2-in-1 rain cover and an Ubersnugg Footmuff. That’s a lot of kit for a very reasonable price.

This is a great travel system that’s super stylish, pleasurable to push and with plenty of storage space to boot. It’s definitely worthy of serious consideration and is a much more affordable option to some of the very expensive options in this list.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 15kg; Wheels: Full suspension off-road tyres; Folded Dimensions: 70cm x 60cm x 29cm; Weight: 12.5kg

10. thule urban glide 2 complete bundle: best running buggy.

bababing raffi travel system reviews

There’s a twist hand brake for quickly stopping safely and it offers superior control even on hilly terrain. You can fold this buggy with just one hand while holding the baby in the other, and it weighs a touch over 11kg, so you can easily lift it in and out of the car’s boot and even up stairs.

The sun canopy can be adjusted to multiple positions and offers side ventilation and a peekaboo window that closes with a magnet. The complete travel bundle comes with a bassinet that can make the stroller suitable from birth onwards, and you’ll also get the Cabriofix i-Size car seat along with the base and adaptors.

Key specs – Age range : Suitable for 0 to 4 years, or 22kg; Wheels : Swivel front wheel, 16-inch rear wheels; Folded Dimensions : 87 x 69 x 34cm; Weight : 11.4kg

12. iCandy Core: The best travel system for second babies

bababing raffi travel system reviews

This premium travel system from iCandy is a great option if you have other children and regularly interchange between urban and rural environments. It can be used from birth, starting with the fleece-lined carrycot that can be used for permanent overnight sleeping. When your baby grows into a toddler, simply switch over to the adjustable clamshell seat, which can also be used with the compatible car seat (if you purchase the full travel system bundle).

One of our favourite design features with this travel system is the built-in buggy board; it’s a lifesaver if you have older children. It will also save you money in the long run, as you won’t have to buy an additional buggy board or a double buggy, depending on the age of your other children.

Other details to note are the front-wheel swivel lock, bag hooks, an on/off brake indicator (which is flip-flop friendly), and ergonomic adjustable handlebar. Plus, the one-handed fold with the chassis still attached. The basket is also a good size at 48 litres, providing plenty of room for shopping and the baby bag. Finally, it comes with interchangeable wheels: the lighter wheels make it more of a compact city stroller, while the second set is more substantial and ideal for more rural areas. All in all, this is a smart and stylish travel system that will take you from birth to toddlerhood with ease and comfort.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 25kg; Wheels: Interchangeable and removable (1 x rural wheel set and 1 x urban wheel set); Folded dimensions: L69 x W61 x H24; Unfolded dimensions: L68 x W61 x H105; Weight: 12.6kg

Rose Gold Marble Belgravia Travel System

Whether you're off for a walk in the woods or popping into town, the best baby travel system makes getting around with your little one easy peasy. Attach the best car seat to the pushchair frame, and you can move your baby from car to pushchair and back again, without disruption.

In general, a travel system consists of a pushchair that is compatible with a Group 0+ car seat, suitable from birth to the age of 12 months. You can easily attach or detach it from the frame, and it will either clip on top of the pushchair seat component or attach directly to the chassis with the seat component removed.

Travel systems for babies often also come with a carrycot attachment, so you can use the pushchair as a lie-flat pram. It's vital when choosing a pushchair for your baby that they can lie flat in it until they're six months old to support the healthy development of their spine and lungs.

The best baby travel systems 2024

1. joie finiti with calmi, best overall baby travel system.

joiebaby.com

Description

Award: Won Gold in the Mother&Baby Awards 2023

The Joie Finiti with Calmi bundle is suitable from birth up to 22kg, and includes a pushchair, carrycot and car seat with a base. Our tester loved that it was quick and easy to fold and unfold, and the harness on both items was also really easy to use. The Calmi isn't just a carry cot, it can be used in a car and has the security of a car seat, so there's no need to wake your sleeping baby when they're under six months, moving them from cot to car.

With an extendable UPF50+ canopy, the Joie Finiti pushchair has three backrest positions which allows for a lie-flat position, it can also be folded up with just one hand, which is very useful when you're a busy parent with your hands full.

Our mum tester said: "From the minute the Joie Finiti travel system and Calmi arrived, I was impressed, arriving in just one box each. Quick and easy to build with informative manuals, the included accessories (a cup holder, rain cover and detachable pram organiser) were a nice surprise to have included as standard. The pram is quick and easy to unfold/fold with no need to double over due to the quick release on the seat.

It folds flat with the seat attachment making it quick and easy to put up/pack away if in a rush or in bad weather. The harness is really easy to use on both items and the four various modes this system caters for meant that we could choose the best combination for us for that moment in time. The clever storage pockets built into the Calmi carrycot on both the outside and the inside meant that I was never without a blanket/comforter and could easily and quickly find the items rather than having to rummage in a changing bag."

  • Lightweight to push
  • Ample under-seat storage
  • Durable suspension
  • One hand fold
  • Canopy doesn't completely cover the seat when fully reclined

2. Mamas and Papas Ocarro

Best baby travel system for on the go.

www.very.co.uk

If the grandparents-to-be are chipping in, or if you've saved hard for a top-of-the-range travel system, we think every penny is well spent on this Mamas and Papas Ocarro travel system. We love the puncture-proof off-road tyres – perfect for rural adventures in style. The reversible, lie-flat pushchair seat ensures maximum comfort during snoozes on the move.

Mother&Baby tester review: "I must admit I do love this pram! I love the fact that you can put it up and down using just one hand which did make my life easier (especially when caught in the rain)! I like the fact the hood comes down quite far but there's a zip to let some air in and a flap to check on your baby as you're pushing (my previous pushchair didn't have this) which does put your mind at ease, especially the first time you put your baby forward facing! Also, the fact that you can fold the pushchair down with the stroller seat on, and it folds down just as neat as it would without the seat is an added bonus as it saves time when out and about in the car! All in all these little features do make a huge difference!"

3. Ickle Bubba Stomp V4

Best for a bundle.

icklebubba.com

If you've got a little more to spend on a travel system, you'll want to know you're getting more bang for your buck. The Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 ticks that box, and is sturdy and felt safe, according to our reviewer. It's achingly cool and stylish, yet the highly functional design is also great for parents with differing heights, with a fully adjustable handle. With this travel system you'll get the carrycot, seat unit, i-Size car seat and Isofix base, raincover, footmuff and changing bag all included in the price.

Mother&Baby tester review: "This pushchair was a pleasure to use! It was sturdy and felt safe. It steered well and collapsed relatively easily. It reclined nicely and the sunshade was large enough to provide good cover for my daughter. This was a great feature. I have a dog, and it pushed surprisingly well on grass and pebbles whilst walking her. The handle positioning was easy to adjust and great for my husband who is tall."

4. Nuna TRIV Next

Best baby travel system for assemble.

www.johnlewis.com

The Nuna TRIV Next was awarded Gold for Best Travel System  at the Mother&Baby Awards 2024.

Another travel system that really looks and handles well, the Nuna TRIV Next was a hit with our tester, who found it easy to assemble, and was impressed at how simple it was to change the positions. The all-season seat keeps your baby warm in winter and converts to breathable mesh in summer, while the rain cover provides extra protection no matter the weather. This travel system is also compact when folded, and will stay standing by itself which is a huge bonus to many.

Our mum tester said: "The assembly process of the pushchair was so easy, I was able to assemble the pushchair alone at 40+2 weeks pregnant. I also tried out a few of the different seat positions, and changing to the collapsible carrycot the first time I set it up and I was really impressed with how simple that was to do. It all felt very good quality, especially the stylish colour scheme of black, really set off by the brown leatherette handle and front bar."

This product has a long lifespan, lasting from birth to four years, and comes with a carrycot, seat unit, car seat (with adapters), changing bag, foot muff, insect netting and rain covers.

Our mum tester said: "This is a great travel system for towns and cities. It was really easy to put together with clear instructions and it’s easy and quick to interchange the different components. Award: Won Silver in the Mother&Baby Awards 2023

The Venicci Tinum SE Stylish Black 3in1 travel system won a silver award at the 2023 M&B Awards, and with good reason. One reviewer said she loved the one-hand fold, and how it was compact too. It has a lightweight frame, easy-to-fold mechanism and modern design, as well as having a pram, car seat and carrycot included, it comes complete with all the accessories needed to make going out and about with your little one as easy as possible. These include a footmuff, changing bag with mat, rain cover and mosquito net.

It is so easy to fold and unfold the pushchair with one hand and there is no need to remove the seat which is so handy for me. The fold is nice and compact too which is great and it stands freely. 7. Kinderkraft EVERYDAY Travel System

Best baby travel system for easy use.

Award: Won Gold in the Mother&Baby Awards 2022

Kinderkraft EVERYDAY is a multifunctional 2-in-1 baby stroller with a large carrycot (with a handle) and a soft mattress; it has bamboo viscose fibres in the cover for good ventilation and antibacterial properties. Our reviewer loved that it has good suspension and is easy to use on different terrains. Together with the Kiddy Evoluna car seat, this makes a comprehensive travel system and the car seat lies flat, both inside and outside the car. *At the time of writing, the travel system which won our award was no longer available, but we have linked through to the 2-in-1 pushchair.

Mother&Baby tester review: "This is a great pram to use as the bassinet sits higher up than others. This means it is easier to see the baby and also lift them in and out. It has good suspension and is relatively easy to use on different terrains. The sunshade is excellent and clips on to the hood and base of the bassinet meaning good shade cover. There is a useful cupholder and also storage pocket within the bassinet for keys/phones etc."

  • Spacious basket
  • Good suspension for different terrains

8. Silver Cross Reef pushchair

Best baby travel system for newborns.

The Silver Cross Reef pushchair is an multi-terrain travel system, which is suitable from newborn to 22kg. Our reviewer thought the system was well designed and sturdy, and loved the one-hand fold, but one downside is its weight. This might be an issue for those who have had a c-section, or struggle moving heavier objects out of a car boot. However, the car seat is very sturdy and comfortable and was a hit with the tester's baby.

Mother&Baby tester review: "If you find that you are comfortable with the weight then you would be hard-pressed to find a better travel system out there. It is very well designed, intuitive to use, safe, sturdy, secure, user-friendly and very good to look at."

  • Feels safe and sturdy
  • Looks and feels luxurious

9. Bugaboo Fox 5

Best baby travel system for style.

www.bugaboo.com

If you're looking for something that uses sustainable products, then the Bugaboo Fox 5 could be the right travel system for you. Our tester loved its lightweight design, and it seamlessly transitions between a comfortable carrycot for infants and a reversible seat for older children. The Bugaboo Fox 5 features a robust chassis, all-terrain wheels, and adjustable suspension for a smooth ride. Its modular design and high-quality materials make it a top choice for modern, active parents.

Dad tester Ashley said: "It is impeccably well-designed, managing to be both totally functional and stylish. The fact that sustainable products have been used to manufacture it is a huge plus point in this modern age. The suspension system makes the ride silky smooth and coupled with the lightness and quality steering makes it very easy to push and manoeuvre."

10. Cosatto Giggle 3in1 Travel System and Accessories Bundle

Best baby travel system for vibrant design.

Rrp: £ 599.95

One thing about Cosatto products is you can never call them boring. Their fun designs are perfectly eye-catching for parents and kiddies too, and this travel system, the Cosatto Giggle 3in1 Travel System & Accessories Bundle, is no different. The bundle includes the chassis, convertible pram to seat unit, car seat (with adaptors) and raincover. Our tester thought it was brilliant for the price, but would have liked a larger basket and felt the rails scratched too easily.

Mother&Baby tester review: "I am very pleased with my pram. It looks amazing and it is easy to drive. I have tried it so far on the pavement but went off-road too. My little one loves to observe cute foxes inside. There is only a couple of downsides: rails are a little too easy to scratch and the basket could be bigger. However I highly recommend this pram, you can't get a better design at this price. Love it!"

  • Three wheels for easy manoeuvrability
  • Lightweight chassis
  • UPF100+ protection sunshade hood
  • Storage basket could be bigger

11. Joie Versatrax Travel System

Best baby travel system for excellent storage.

It comprises of a carrycot, infant carrier and stroller, and was easy to push according to our tester. Along with the travel system, you'll get a raincover, bumper bar, cupholder and adapters.

Mother&Baby tester review: "My son found this buggy really comfortable and had no problems falling and staying asleep in it. I found it really easy to push and liked the colour and materials used, it felt really stylish. I particularly liked the large basket that was easy to access and the fact that the buggy was really easy to push and was a smooth ride for my son."

12. Maxi-Cosi Zelia Luxe 2

Best stream-lined baby travel system.

The Maxi-Cosi Zelia Luxe 2 pushchair is the perfect 2-in-1 pushchair for cool, relaxed city living. This travel system can fit into a small flat without compromising your baby's comfort, and is suitable for newborn to 3.5 years. The Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2 pushchair is the second version of the Maxi-Cosi Zelia stroller, which won bronze in the Mother&Baby Awards in 2019.

Our testers thought it was better suited as a second pushchair, as it wasn't as robust as some of the market, and more suited to a city environment.

Mother&Baby Tester review: "I really loved the Zelia Travel System. It was lovely to steer and push and easy to slot into place. I especially like that it is suitable for all ages. I like that I have the option to use it if I were to have another child with the Pebble Plus car seat. This is a bonus as it's so much easier to have it all as one rather than separate car seats and buggies."

  • Good value for money
  • Comfy and cosy
  • Fairly compact fold
  • Rain cover included
  • Could be sturdier

13. Ickle Bubba Eclipse

Best all-in-one baby travel system.

Another travel system with a one-hand fold, loved by our reviewers, is the Ickle Bubba Eclipse. This travel system won the silver M&B award last year and with good reason. Our reviewers found it to be appealing to look at with easy-clean fabrics and a very spacious basket. They also said they would definitely recommend it because it is reasonably priced and features everything you might need. A brilliant addition is the Bubba Board, a built-in board, which can hold another child weighing up to 20kg.

Mother&Baby tester review:  "The pram is very easy to fold up (with one hand) and unfold. The under pram basket is very spacious. But in addition to this, the change bag that comes with the pram is also huge and attaches neatly on the back. Easy to access both the change bag and basket on the go. The pram is very stable - even with a full change bag attached to the back, it did not tip when my toddler was stood up in the seat."

  • Easy to clean and use
  • Simple to fold
  • Spacious storage basket
  • Could do with a handlebar brake

14. BabaBing! Raffi

Best trending baby travel system.

The BabaBing! Raffi looks stylish and one reviewer thought that it was amazing quality for the price, however this travel system doesn't come with a car seat, which would be an extra cost. But it does come with a number of accessories, as well as the carrycot and seat unit, it also comes with a 2-in-1 raincover, a waterproof footmuff and car seat adapters.

One review said: "The Raffi Pushchair is perfect for my little one due this year, and such amazing quality for the price. Everything comes with it which makes life so much easier, its easy to use and has a nice sturdy frame but isn't too heavy. I really love it, and can't wait to use it."

  • Sturdy one-hand fold
  • Generous storage basket
  • Reasonably lightweight

15. Rose Gold Marble Belgravia Travel System

Best baby travel system for a compact fold.

mybabiie.com

Award: Won Bronze in the Mother&Baby Award2022

The Rose Gold Marble Belgravia Travel System was designed with celeb mum Dani Dyer as part of her Cherish range. It's design adapts as your family grows and includes a bassinet which can attach to the stroller frame for family strolls and fresh air, eventually progressing to the reversible seat.

Like the Ickle Bubba, it comes with a built-in buggy board for tots and detachable wheels for compact storage at home or on the go. It is also really well priced for such a versatile product, and folds down to a compact size, perfect when you have a lot to fit in your boot!

Mother&Baby tester review:  "This travel system is amazing. It's so easy to put up and fold with one hand, and switch between seat styles, which is everything you need In a travel system. The fact it all comes as a package and you don't need to worry about finding the correct accessories anywhere else, the box has it all. The shopping basket being large with zips is a godsend."

  • Compact fold
  • Easy to use and fold
  • Larger seat for prolonged use
  • Stunning style
  • Some parents didn't even consider it gender-neutral in design

What to look for in the best travel system

Convenience is the main benefit, as you can transfer your baby to and from a pushchair without removing them from their car seat. This is less disruptive for your child and saves time and stress. A travel system is often more expensive and sometimes bulkier than a standard pushchair, so it's only worthwhile if a car is your main form of transport.

It's important to keep in mind that different travel systems are compatible with different car seats, although there is some crossover. The most important thing about buying the best travel system is to make sure it will fit in your car.

Here are some things to look out for when considering your purchase.

Shopping basket

A big basket is essential! It should be large enough to hold everything you need when you're out with your baby, including the rain cover and your baby changing bag . The basket should be accessible, even when the carrycot is attached, or the pushchair seat is fully reclined.

Seat recline

The recommended sleeping position for babies is flat on their back, so a pushchair seat that reclines fully flat is a must for naps in the pushchair. It should be easy (and quiet!) to adjust with your baby in the seat.

A height-adjustable handlebar ensures the pushchair is comfortable for you, your partner or anyone else who might use it regularly. Check that it's easy to adjust and comfortable to hold.

Is the car seat included in the price, or do you have to buy it separately? Factor in the price of the base, too, and don't forget car-seat adaptors to attach it to the chassis.

Babies shouldn't sit in car seats for more than two hours at a time - we've looked at the research into how long a baby should stay in a car seat - including when it's attached to a pushchair chassis. Choose a travel system with a comfy lie-flat carrycot. Your baby will outgrow it by six months old, so check how bulky it is to store – some are cleverly designed to convert to an upright seat.

Baby travel system

Seat direction

A travel system with a reversible seat unit means you can choose which way your baby faces. A parent-facing seat encourages your baby's communication skills, but an inquisitive toddler might prefer to face where they're going. There are regulations and advice on how to keep your baby rear-facing for longer .

Accessories

Some travel systems come with coordinating accessories such as a footmuff or change bag. Think about which ones you actually need and whether they're included in the price.

Fold mechanism

A travel system will be in and out of your car boot. Choose one that's compact and easy to fold, leaving room for shopping or luggage.

The brake should be comfortably positioned and easy to operate without the risk of applying it by accident or scuffing your shoes. Check how reliable it feels and whether it's easy to release.

All-terrain wheels make for easy manoeuvrability on muddy walks. Smaller, solid wheels make light work of city pavements and shiny shop floors. If you're likely to switch between different types of terrain, go for lockable, swivel wheels.

Do I need a baby travel system?

A baby travel system can be convenient has they come with all the travel essentials you need for your baby. They are often good value, however if you buy an ISOFIX car seat to stay in your car, you wouldn't need a travel system that comes with a car seat.

What other things do I need to consider when buying a baby travel system?

Not all infant car seats can be attached to all pushchairs, and you may need to buy adaptors. If you'd prefer an i-Size car seat, which sits your baby in the safer rear-facing position until they are at least 15 months old, you'll need to choose a pushchair frame that's compatible. If you want to keep your child rear-facing in the car beyond 15 months, you'll need an extended rear-facing car seat. However, these are designed to stay in your car, so a travel system isn't an option.

The car seat will either clip on top of the pushchair's seat component or attach directly to the chassis with the seat component removed. Adapters are sometimes required to fix the car seat onto the pushchair or chassis. Check if these are included. If they aren't, find out what the additional cost will be.

bababing raffi travel system reviews

What about the pushchair?

A travel system often has a seat component that enables it to be used as a 'normal' pushchair. Many mums use the car seat clipped into the frame when their baby is very young, using the larger seat component as their little one grows. If you intend to keep your newborn in the pushchair for long periods, you will need a travel system with a fully reclining seat component.

Newborns should only remain in car seats for a few hours at a time, as lying horizontally is better for their breathing and healthy spine development. Some travel systems also offer the option of a pram-style carrycot. While this can add expense, the carrycot can double as a Moses basket and portable travel cot.

Can you use a travel system for toddlers?

Only Group 0+ car seats will fit on the travel system. These will be outgrown at around 12-15 months. Most mums will continue to use the travel system with the seat component fitted after that.

For toddlers, a seat that reclines for naps is useful, but it doesn't have to be fully horizontal. Some pushchair seats are reversible, so your baby can face you, to begin with, but face outwards to get a better view of the world as they get older. For older children, you may want to look into the best car seat for 4-year-olds .

How easy is it to fold?

All travel systems fold up so that they can be stowed in a car boot. Try out the folding mechanism in the shop – your 'tricky' might be another person's 'easy'. Consider that you may sometimes need to hold your baby while you fold and unfold the chassis. You'll also have to lift the folded pushchair chassis in and out of the car boot, so consider its weight – anything over 10kg could be a struggle.

How big is your car boot?

Travel systems are more compact than ever, but some models are still pretty bulky to allow for all the extra functionality they offer. Before you buy one, check it fits in your car boot. You can always remove the carrycot or seat unit from the chassis and store it on your back seat. Although, this will limit space in your car for other passengers.

Can I use a second hand travel system?

While it can be perfectly fine to use a second hand travel system, it is not advised to use a second hand car seat unless you are absolutely sure that it has never been in an accident.

It would be advisable to only use second hand if it's from a very close relative or friend.

What is the difference between a 2in1 and 3in1 travel system?

A 3in1 travel system includes a car seat, carry cot and a pushchair all on the same frame, where as a 2in1 would only include the car seat and pushchair.

The bonus to both is that they are interchangeable with a car seat, which can be handy when you're out of the house and don't want to disturb your baby if they fall asleep.

The Parent Test

The Bababing Raffi was reviewed by Charlie and Emma, parents to Ayla, who is now five months old. They live in Surrey with their French Bulldog Peanut and regularly go for long walks, so an off-road pram is necessary! They tried the car seat and pram out in their BMW1 1 Series Cabriolet and an Audi RS4. They put the Bababing Raffi Travel System to the test, and here's what they thought:

First Impressions

The Raffi is straightforward to assemble out of the box and includes many great accessories, like the rain cover and changing bag. The bag is especially good with lots of space! We have tested a few prams, and this is easily the sturdiest we've had so far; everything is chunky & strong and well-built. There's much tougher wheel quality than we were expecting too. Overall it's very well put together and solid. We love the blue with brown leather-style handle combination. It certainly feels very safe. The car seat is a 0/0+ size group and seems well tested to ensure babies' safety. Adding it to the pram chassis and putting it back into the car was really easy with the quick hand-release system.

Manoeuvrability

It is on the larger side for a pram which does, of course, impact the weight. However, the manoeuvring is still easy, and the whole unit moves smoothly. It's heavy on and off buses/trains but otherwise very easy and can be operated with one hand if needed. Size is fine for our biggest car, but in our smaller cars, it doesn't fit. We use it both around towns but also a lot of off-road when walking the dog, and it copes with all of this brilliantly. You can lock the front wheels like most prams for use on uneven ground, and it has good clearance from the ground thanks to the large wheels. This makes steering smooth and going over grassy areas easy. Baby always looks pretty comfortable inside, no matter where we go!

Folding, Unfolding, Storage & Lifting

As mentioned above, it is heavier than others we've tested but very easy to use. Everything fits together really well. Folding is quick and easy with a simple one-handed fold, but it would be easier if lighter. You do have to store the accessories, which does take up space in the house, but this is the same for any travel system. The adjustable seat unit on the Bababing Raffi can recline in 3 positions, and the carrycot can do the same, which can help if your baby has reflux. It fits in larger cars well, but smaller cars may struggle to fit it in alongside shopping. For quite a big pram, it does fold down surprisingly flat, in our estate car, we easily have enough space for 1-2 large cases with it in the boot.

Travel System Component Change

All components fit together with ease, and swapping bits is super simple. The little levers on the sides are easy to detach and swap over. Everything seems well made, so Ayla seems very safe and secure. The adjustable seat unit is easy to use, too, with an easy one-handed adjustment. Adding the car seat to the chassis was also a breeze, but we found it easier to leave the car seat in the car and put Ayla straight into the carrycot/ child seat. The Bababing Hera ISOFIX i-Size base is fixed, so you cannot swivel to face you like many bases on the market, meaning getting her in and out of a low car was tricky. We regularly use the bassinet option as a travel cot when staying over at relatives and this did the job brilliantly.

Comfort & Ease of Use

Very comfortable for babies and parents, the handles are thick and sturdy, made from a luxury leatherette finish, making it feel high quality - the large wheel diameter made for a very smooth, comfortable roll with good suspension for all terrains. The seat and bassinet are made from recycled fabrics which are mud-friendly and easily wipable. They come with a good-sized canopy with added sun visor and ventilation system to allow good airflow and sun protection. The Bababing Raffi pushchair also comes with the 2-in-1 rain covers included. The rain cover fits the carrycot and the forward and rear-facing seat unit's sun canopy. Unlike many prams on the market, the bumper bar is also included. It's made of the same brown leatherette finish as the handlebar, so it's nice and soft. The car seat is 4.5kg which, once your baby is strapped in, makes it quite heavy, so being able to attach it to the Bababing Raffi pushchair chassis with the car seat adaptors meant that we didn't have to carry a sleeping Ayla around in her seat. Mostly, it stayed in the car, though. Baby regularly slept in the pram and did so very peacefully. She indeed found this pram the most comfortable out of our other prams; this is not a massive surprise, given how well-made the whole thing is, with plenty of attention to detail and high-quality parts.

car seat

The Raffi chassis has a centralised brake pedal which is easy to engage and disengage, whatever your footwear, even barefoot! It always felt firm and reliable. The 5-point safety restraint of the child seat kept our baby secure on everything from smooth pavement to rough terrain. This, combined with the incredibly sturdy frame, meant our baby was always safe and comfortable, which meant we could relax knowing she was all good! The whole pram felt balanced; we never feared it would tip over. The sunshade gave great coverage, so there was no need to use additional sun shades or universal attachments like we've had to with other prams. The ISOFIX Hera i-Size base allows easy click-in and click-out installation of the car seat. It has indicators to ensure you install it correctly and the baby is safe. The car seat offers a 3-point Y-harness with padded shoulders for a comfortable, snug fit and a removable newborn insert included (for use until they are 60cm) , making it suitable from birth. You can secure the car seat into the ISOFIX base or use a 3-point seatbelt to give you two options for safe installation. It also offers side-impact protection and hugs Ayla's head well. Being an i-Size, the car seat is height restrictive, rather than weight, so it is rear facing from 40-78cm (birth to approx 15m) . It does not go forward facing, so you know your child will be safer in a crash.

dog

There is a large storage basket on the Bababing Raffi pushchair, which is very handy. It's large enough for our French bulldog to curl up and sleep in (which he does!) while we go to the local park, and it still has space to accommodate a changing bag and all your baby accessories at the same time. We've even managed to fit in some shopping as well! It's very easily accessible via a large opening and made with very sturdy material. The travel system also came with a changing bag which was very useful, alongside a changing mat. The bag has lots of space to fit everything needed for days out with Ayla.

The price of the Bababing Raffi, if bought separately, would be around £1227.46, but you can get it as a package deal at £790 for the travel system, which is a great offer. You can also get the pram and carrycot as a bundle for just £652.50, so the extra for the car seat, base, rain cover, changing bag, car seat adaptors and other accessories are worth it. It's high quality and very easy to use, so worth the price. Not only that, we think it looks fantastic and actually looks as though it should cost more.

Final Thoughts

The Bababing Raffi travel system is high quality, sturdy & easy to use. It was not cheap but its also not too expensive. It has a reasonable package price and translates to a better user experience than cheaper options. We've tested a few prams, and this is easily the sturdiest we've used so far; it's solid! The colour options are great and give it a really premium look, more in-line with much more expensive makes/models. We would definitely recommend the Bababing Raffi Travel System if you have a medium-large car.

In the market for a new pram, a stroller or a travel system? If you’re overwhelmed with the different styles (and the different names), fear not as the IndyBest team is on hand, as per usual to assist you with your decision-making.

Prams and pushchairs are a tricky one; they’re an essential bit of baby kit but we won’t lie to you, the price tags can be a bit daunting. So it makes sense to really think about various factors when selecting a pram.

If you’re planning to have more than one child, future-proofing your pram just makes good financial sense. If you have two children close together or are having twins, you can find prams that convert from one seat to two. Or if you have a child who will walk sometimes, look for a pram with an on-board buggy board that they can ride on when their little legs get tired.

Another factor to bear in mind is where you’ll be using your pram. If you live in a rural area, where you head off the beaten track, bigger tyres and decent suspension is what you’re after. If you live in an urban area and planning to be on and off public transport a fair amount, smaller swivel wheels that are nippy at manoeuvring and a more compact pram will be a lifesaver.

You should also consider the fold – some prams need seat units removing before folding, others simply glide shut with a push of a button. If you’re going to need to fold your pram often – to put in the boot of a car, say – then go for the latter.

Related stories

As you search online, you’ll also need to become familiar with the different names. For example, a travel system is normally a kit with a bassinet for newborns and a seat unit for when they get older, plus, they can take an infant car seat (normally with adaptors). Alternatively, a pushchair or stroller tends to be something more lightweight – but they don’t always lie flat, so sometimes they’re not suitable from birth.

How we tested the best prams

We’ve tested countless prams to whittle it down to the very best. We recruited babies and children of all different ages to ride in them. We walked and went running for miles over all different terrains, from country paths to city streets in the rain, wind and sunshine, to find the standout prams. We looked at how easy they are to use – both pushing and folding – how comfortable they seem and any nice little extras that made us think, “Oooh, clever”.

iCandy lime travel system

iCandy lime travel system indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Pram overall
  • Folded dimensions : ‎68cm x 51cm x 30cm
  • Weight : ‎10.2 kg
  • Age suitability : Suitable from birth with the carrycot
  • Folds with seat still attached
  • Car seat attachment available
  • Not the most compact

There are many great features we were impressed with on the iCandy lime. There’s the “totalfold” function, which essentially means the pram folds compactly with the seat unit still attached. Then, once folded, there’s a carry strap to help you lug it about. It’s a long way from being the most compact pram we tried, but on the other hand it’s a much more robust pram than some others. It’s also a great option if you have an older child and a baby, as this travel system comes with a built-in buggy board.

The lime comes with a fleece-lined bassinet included, which sounds absolutely dreamy – who wouldn’t want to sleep in a fleecey nest? Plus, it’s suitable for overnight sleeping, which is great if you don’t have a travel cot or moses basket. There are attachments both for car seats and to raise the seat up further, so it’s about the right height for your child to reach a dining table – great for not having to faff about with high chairs at restaurants. And as for the drive, the push is easy and the chair nips along nicely. This is a great option for city dwellers who want a bit more luxury from their ride.

Micralite getgo travel system

Micralite GetGo travel system indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Budget pram
  • Folded dimensions : 76cm x 59cm x 38cm
  • Weight : 10.8kg
  • Age suitability : From birth up to 22kg
  • Small touches for a more premium appeal
  • Roomy basket
  • Handy pocket for your phone

Marketed as a highly practical pushchair, we can’t say we can argue with that. We were impressed by this pushchair because it had so many of the nice touches of more expensive, bigger prams, yet it had most of the benefits of a smaller stroller too. We liked the smart black colourway with tan leatherette trim on the handle and bar, and the cream fabric insert. The hood is extendable, has UPF50 and also has a pull-out mesh sunshade that tucks away into the top, which gives more coverage than any other hood we tried. There is also a nice roomy basket, with some pockets to store smaller items.

And best of all? A cup holder and a zippy pocket in the back of the seat that’s smartphone sized. Yes, the designers of this pram clearly knew what parents of small children need. It folds really easily with the seat unit attached, which lies totally flat so it’s suitable from birth (you can buy a bassinet that fits onto the chassis if you want). We thought this was a fantastic pushchair, which ticked pretty much all of our boxes.

Babystyle oyster3 stroller

  • Best : For city and town living
  • Folded dimensions : 71 x 57 x 37cm
  • Weight : Not specified
  • Saves space
  • Relatively lightweight
  • Harness clips are tricky to get the hand of

While this pram has a moderate footprint – it’s not up there with a big iCandy, but nor is it a nippy libelle (£199.95, Naturalbabyshower.co.uk ) – it also has several clever functions that make it a really smart choice if you’re short on space. It folds with the seat unit in place, whether it’s world or parent facing, and has a really smooth folding mechanism. We don’t have time to stand about coaxing prams to fold, and this would be a brilliant bonus for people who need to take their pram on public transport often. Once it’s folded, it has a sturdy carry handle, and it is freestanding.

The Oyster3 is also surprisingly lightweight compared to some of its competitors, so it would be one of the easiest out of the more comprehensive prams to lug up stairs if need be. The wheels are large and foam filled, which gives a smooth ride, but we didn’t find it quite as smooth to push, or as quick to speed away as other prams.

The five-point harness clips are magnetic, which helps when securing our little one in place. However, the separate clips are a bit like pieces of a puzzle, and we’re not often in the mood for puzzles when our toddler is planking while being put into their pram. There is a moderate size extendable sun canopy with UV protection, and while the seat unit is lying flat you can also buy a bassinet for it – we’ve found “bundles” of the stroller and bassinet for really great prices.

Nuna MIXX next

Nuna MIXX next indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Easy fold pram
  • Folded dimensions : 42cm x 65cm x 52.5cm
  • Weight : 11.09kg
  • Age suitability : From birth
  • Premium appeal
  • Plenty of under-seat storage
  • Handy phone pocket
  • Easy one-hand fold
  • Folds compact
  • Chunky wheels

More papped than Britney , this stroller is a celebrity favourite, including the Kardashians and Jessica Biel. And it seems like those celebs know a good pram when they see one. The MIXX next is suitable from birth as it smoothly reclines completely flat, or you can buy a bassinet that attaches to the pram, which is sold separately (£150, Mamasandpapas.com ). It’s also possible to have the seat parent or world facing.

This pram feels really premium – the fabrics are hardwearing and luxurious on the hood and seat, and the handlebar and arm bar are made of a lovely leatherette material that is very tactile and nice and easy to grip. We were wowed by the sizable under-seat storage basket, which has a zip-up compartment too, so VIP passengers – Rusty the cuddly toy fox, for example – don’t get dropped. There’s also a little phone pocket in the back of the seat that’s pure genius.

There is a summer seat, which has a mesh back to help keep passengers cool, and in colder weather you can add a seat pad (which is included) that feels really cosy. Our tall parent testers loved this pram as the handle baseline is quite high up (which might not be great for petite parents), and extends further upwards too. And let’s talk about the fold – the seat unit stays attached to the chassis, and you simply pull up two latches on the handle and it collapses without any pushing or shoving. Definitely an easy one-hand fold here. It folds small enough to fit into a compact car boot, but the wheels are quite chunky so it’s not one that you can slip under your arm and jump on a bus.

Stokke xplory X stroller

Stokke Xplory X stroller indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Premium stroller
  • Folded dimensions : 101cm x 131cm x 56cm
  • Weight : 13.4kg
  • Supremely cosy seat
  • The car seat (sold separately) won’t need adaptors
  • Seat isn’t suitable from birth
  • Pricey (particularly with the bassinet sold seperatlet)

“It doesn’t look like a pram, are you sure it’s a pram?” asked our family when this turned up. It’s definitely a pram – a pram like no other. The xplory X has an iconic Stokke look to it, and the clever design that goes along with their products. The seat unit was the snuggest seat of all we tested, and our little one looked so cosy in their nest. Your child can be parent or world facing, and the seat has a cute little foot rest that slips on the bottom.

However, the seat unit is only suitable from six months, and the bassinet is sold separately (£179, Bellababy.co.uk ) – the price combined brought us out in a cold sweat, if we’re honest. That said, it does glide nicely with the flexibility of locking the front wheel if you are covering rough terrain.

The basket underneath totally closes, meaning none of your shopping gets wet, although it’s not generous in size. For those precious naps while out and about, the seat unit reclines well, and allows an almost horizontal angle. And if you buy into the Stokke range, the Stokke car seat clips onto the chassis without the need for adaptors – why can’t all prams do this? We felt pretty trendy pushing this pram down the street, and it’s definitely a front runner for parents who are style conscious.

Silver Cross clic

Silver Cross clic indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Compact pushchair
  • Folded dimensions : 54cm x 45cm 22cm
  • Weight : 6.5kg
  • Age suitability : From birth to 22kg
  • Smooth glide
  • Storage has quite high sides

This jazzy little number has an eye-catching metallic pattern in the sun canopy, and comes in lilac, aqua or the standard black. The seat unit is quilted in a geometric pattern to match, and looks really comfortable. The shoulder straps also have pads for extra luxury travel.

The clic claims to be a one-hand recline, which is true, but you have to fiddle with a clasp to get it back upright again. However, the clic lies completely flat, so newborns and pram nappers will be just fine in it. The storage has quite high sides, so it’s not the easiest to lob your shopping into when in a rush at the self checkout. The push on it is great though, it glides smoothly and doesn’t feel cumbersome, taking on all the speedy corners we threw at it.

iCandy orange pram

iCandy orange pram indybest.jpeg

  • Best : For growing families
  • Folded dimensions : 70cm x 60cm x 28.5cm
  • Weight : ‎17.8kg
  • Age suitability : Suitable from birth with a carrycot up to 25kg
  • Smooth ride
  • Luxurious seat
  • Smooth seat recline
  • Can’t use the buggy board in twin or double mode

We couldn’t find a better pram for a growing family than the iCandy orange. It has the footprint of a single pram, but can convert to twin or double mode, and it has an integrated buggy board too. It’s worth noting though that you wouldn’t be able to use the buggy board if in twin or double mode, unless your child was a contortionist.

As a single pram, it does have quite a big footprint, but for that it’s very stable and gives a smooth ride. And the basket is epic. It folds down well though, and you can fold it with the seat unit and bumper bar attached. The seat unit is quilted and feels really luxurious. And once our little darling is rocked to sleep thanks to the decent suspension, the seat reclines really smoothly using a handle at the top of the seat.

Mamas and Papas airo pushchair

Mamas and Papas airo pushchair indybest.jpeg

  • Best : For easy carrying
  • Folded dimensions : 25 x 45 x 55cm
  • Weight : 7.6kg
  • Age suitability : From birth to toddler
  • Smooth recline
  • Compact fold
  • Extendable hood
  • One-hand fold could be simpler

Suitable from birth, this compact pushchair lies totally flat and is a comfortable ride too. The recline on it is super smooth, so no jerky manoeuvres to wake up our sleeping beauty. It’s also possible to buy a newborn pack (sold separately), which includes a bassinet (£149, Mamasandpapas.com ).

The one-hand fold has several stages to it, so it wasn’t the simplest – not ideal when you have a tantruming toddler stood next to you. But it does have a useful padded carry handle. You can also wear it like a backpack, but we weren’t convinced by this feature as you have quite a large pram for a tail – perhaps useful if you need to be hands free at an airport or something, but not a feature we’d like to use often. The fold is compact, and it fits neatly into our compact-car boot with loads of room for other toddler paraphernalia. The extendable hood is great and the storage basket is a decent enough size to fit your shopping underneath.

Bababing raffi travel system

Bababing raffi travel system indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Value for money
  • Folded dimensions : 70cm x 60cm x 29cm
  • Weight : 12.5kg
  • Age suitability : From birth to 6 months with the carrycot/ car seat, from 6 months up to 15Kg with the seat
  • The bassinet is robust
  • Don’t need to remove the seat to fold

The Raffi is a great little travel system. The seat unit is well padded – even on the sides – and it reclines back into a horizontal position easily. You can also have the seat unit either parent or world facing. We liked that the bassinet – is nice and robust, with its own sunshade that locks into position – is included in the price on this travel system.

When thinking about fitting this in the car boot, we’ve got to be honest, the chassis isn’t the most petite. But the seat unit can stay attached to the chassis when you fold it, which is music to our ears. However, it is heavy, so it might not be one for lugging about too much. The basket space is ample, and the sides come up nice and high to stop anything getting turfed out on the road. We were really impressed with this little (ok, big) number and think it is great value for money.

Ergobaby metro+ stroller

Ergobaby metro+ stroller indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Compact for newborns
  • Folded dimensions : Not specified
  • Weight : 7.8 kg
  • Nice padding
  • Compact once folded
  • The recline is a little fiddy

If you’re looking for something very lightweight without the hassle of a bassinet then this is a great option. The stroller has a hidden, built in newborn nest and flaps that you fold out from the foot rest, which folds all the way up at the bottom. We thought this was a brilliant feature for such a compact pram. The seat unit is nicely padded and feels quite bouncy, and the straps are padded too. The seat uses a strap and clasp recline, which isn’t our favourite as it’s a bit more fiddly. But when reclined, the back of the seat is mesh which helps prevent our snoozer from overheating.

All mechanisms on the pram were great – it’s easy to fold with one hand, and folds compactly. It doesn’t take up much room in the boot so it’s great for even very small cars. And the pram really moves nicely – a gentle push and we’re away, nipping around pedestrians with ease. The spring suspension provides a smooth ride for our passengers too. You can also buy a carry bag for it, which is great if you’re putting it in an aeroplane hold or lugging it some distance.

Cybex libelle pushchair

Cybex libelle pushchair indybest.jpeg

  • Best : For smallest fold
  • Folded dimensions : 20cm x 32cm x 48 cm
  • Weight : 6kg
  • Age suitability : From 6 months to 22kg
  • Lightweight
  • Super compact
  • Not as comfy and plush as larger models

When this pram arrived we were slightly disbelieving that a pram could fit in such a small box – but fit it did. This pushchair is a brilliant option if you’re after a lightweight, very compact pram for around town and going away. Indeed, it can fit in overhead compartments on planes, and under train seats. For all this zippy, compact fun, this pram isn’t the plushest of rides. Although the fabric feels nice and durable, the seat isn’t super padded and the straps are fairly basic. Our tester looked happy enough in there, but we’re not convinced it’s as comfy as some other (larger, heavier) prams.

The hood isn’t extravagantly large, but fares ok on the coverage front. Pushing the pram is easy, and it zoomed around the shops and over curbs. Because the seat doesn’t lie flat, it’s not suitable for newborns, but it does have a nice recline on it, which is very adjustable as it’s a cord you pull at the back. For such a tiny pram, the basket underneath is also a good size.

Egg 2 stroller

_Egg 2 stroller indybest.jpeg

  • Best : For style
  • Folded dimensions : 67 x 29 x 59cm
  • Weight : 9.7kg
  • Age suitability : Six months and above
  • Smooth to recline and operate
  • The seat is plush
  • Sensitive foot break

Sleek and stylish, this pram has definitely been designed for style – but yet, it isn’t just style and no substance. The sleek grey chassis can accommodate a seat unit or a bassinet, and it feels really smooth to operate. The recline function when in seat mode is operated from the top, which means you don’t have to stop and fiddle around at the sides when you’re in a rush. And the recline is smooth – it didn’t wake our slumbering baby.

Speaking of the seat unit, it’s plush and padded. In fact, we were quite jealous of how comfortable our mini tester looked in it. And it looks good too – all smooth curves and glossy metal. Another thing we liked was the foot break, which was nicely sensitive and springy – much smoother than others we battled with.

It’s a big thumbs up for the basket underneath, which is really nice and roomy. It has a good space between it and the seat or bassinet above, meaning we didn’t have to get on our hands and knees to load and unload items. Another smart thing we thought was clever was the elasticated insect net, which is stored under the footrest. And, if you have twins or children close in age, the egg2 can be adapted to a tandem configuration – but you have to buy the tandem adaptor set.

Out n About nipper double

Out n About nipper double indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Double pram
  • Folded dimensions : 71cm x 36cm x 79cm (wheels off)
  • Weight : ‎12.8kg
  • Age suitability : Newborn to around four years old
  • Tackles obstacles with ease
  • Durable fabrics
  • Surprisingly compact once folded
  • Function over comfort
  • Recline could be easter to master
  • No under seat basket

This three-wheeler pushchair is great if you’re pushing more than two kids around. It’s brilliant at handling off-road obstacles, pavement bumps and curbs – we didn’t even have to pull it onto its back wheels to get it up the curb. And the suspension is great – our passengers didn’t blink an eye at potholes or bumpy tracks. We loved the generous sun canopy with lift-up flap, and that there are lots of built-in pockets in the hood.

The nipper isn’t the most plush of prams though, and the fabrics feel made for durability rather than comfort. We found the recline function a bit tricky to master as it’s a case of pulling a strap through a clasp. And crucially there’s no under seat basket, which seems madness for parents with two or more kids. We also found the foot brake a bit sticky. However, despite this we were overall really impressed with this double, and that’s why it’s got the top billing. It’s narrow enough to fit through pretty much all doors and you can fold it with the seat units attached. Plus once it’s folded it’s actually pretty compact, so would probably fit in most car boots.

Chicco cheerio stroller

Chicco cheerio stroller indybest.jpeg

  • Best : For easy folding
  • A breeze to fold
  • Fairly lightweight
  • Small turning circle

Definitely the easiest to fold pram of the many, many prams we tried over the course of our testing. Simply press two buttons in the handle and the cheerio folds itself down to a very compact size – brilliant if you’re holding a baby in one arm. You can then pick it up and carry it using the padded bumper bar – and away we went to get on with our day. We found it lightweight enough to sling into our boot and it’d be easy to get it into overhead lockers on aeroplanes (as long as no one else is hogging all the space).

Let’s talk about the ride. The seat has adequate padding, and the straps are padded too. The glide on it is great, and it has a really small turning circle. The footprint on the pram isn’t huge, so it feels a little less robust than an all-out big travel system, but if you’re buying this you probably aren’t looking for the Land Rover of the pram world, let’s be honest. Nice little additions were the included rain cover and carry bag, which make this pram a really smart buy in the compact market.

The black colourway is currently unavailable but this gorgeous ‘blossom’ neutral tone would be perfect for summer...

Thule urban glide 2 running buggy

Thule urban glide 2 running buggy indybest.jpeg

  • Best : Running pram
  • Weight : ‎11.4g
  • Tackles tough terrain with ease
  • Secret storage

Almost good to go out of the box, this pram is ready for a life on the road. It seriously moves – one gentle push and it’s off, and it’s really easy to push one handed even over rough terrain. We loved that you have the option of locking the front wheel for running, or unlocking it when negotiating the streets and shops – it offers the best of both worlds.

Another great touch is the secret pocket behind the hood for phones, keys and masks (but you do need slim fingers to retrieve anything in there). The under-seat basket is waterproof and zips up so you can keep things clean and dry if you’re off for a muddy run across the fields. There’s also a generous sun canopy, which has a magnetic window so you can silently check on your baby as they snooze. There is also a hand brake, making it easy to slow when running.

One thing that was tricky is that the pram is large – it didn’t fit in our compact-car boot without taking the wheels off. This was a muddy job after some runs, so definitely worth factoring in. Even so, we fell hard for this pram, both as a running buggy and for general use. The price is quite punchy compared to some other running prams but we think the difference in quality of the fabric, build and mechanisms is noticeable on the Thule.

Bugaboo dragonfly carrycot and seat pushchair

  • Best : Folding options
  • Folded dimensions : 36cm x 52cm x 90 cm
  • Weight : 10.4 kg
  • Age suitability : Suitable from birth to 4 years with bassinet
  • Folds down with seat or bassinet attached
  • Robust yet smooth movement
  • Compatible with a number of car seats
  • Rain cover not included as standard

The biggest selling point of the Bugaboo Dragonfly is its foldability with varying attachments. If you buy the option with both the seat and bassinet, both of these are able to be folded down fully and the frame can then continue to be wheeled around in its folded state. The folding mechanism takes a few practice goes to get a feel for, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be folding down in the blink of an eye.

This is very convenient for city living, and it’s also not too heavy compared to other models of this size if you need to carry it up stairs on occasion. When in its unfolded state the pushchair has quite substantial storage space under the seat and feels sturdy and robust. In motion it feels smooth and has an extendable handle that should be comfortable whatever your height.

Available extras include a snazzy changing backpack, which comes in very handy, and a cup holder attachment which may become essential for your morning coffee. This model is also compatible with a number of different brands of car seat, which can be lifted from your vehicle and straight into the pushchair frame without having to wake the baby. Features like this make this pram one of the most adaptable on our list.

How to choose between a pram, stroller or travel system

The main and most important difference between prams and pushchairs is that the former is designed for younger infants and babies, and they’re generally suitable to use from birth. On the other hand, strollers are designed for older infants and toddlers. This is down to the positioning of the seat or carrycot – so, while prams feature a flat position, strollers are more upright, which suits infants who are capable of sitting up independently. Last but not least, if you’re looking to go further afield, travel systems may be a good choice, as they’re able to have a car seat attached to the frame.

  • If the pram has a cover, it can protect infants from sunlight.
  • They won’t be practical once the little one can sit up independently.
  • While they can fold down when you need them to, they won’t be as compact as a stroller, making them trickier to store away.
  • They’re generally designed to collapse down to a compact size for easy storage.
  • While they aren’t able to recline completely, they should recline enough for toddlers to sleep.
  • They can be used until your toddler can walk for long periods.

The verdict: Prams

The iCandy lime was a standout playing on testing. We loved how robust yet manoeuvrable it is, and it’s packed with design features that really make a difference to parents’ lives. If you’re after something smaller in size and budget, we really loved the Silver Cross clic .

  1. Bababing Ltd Reviews

The Raffi travel system we purchased hasn't even lasted 18 months (despite being well maintained). The pram hood railing snapped and we've had difficulty dismantling it every.single.time. The worst fault is the dye from the pram seat lining transferring; subsequently ruining 5 items of my child's clothing.

The Raffi is closer to the heavier end of the pushchair scales, weighing in at 12.5kg. However, this doesn't seem to really impact how it pushes.
