About Billy Talent: Billy Talent are one of Canada’s most successful bands. They have sold nearly one million albums in Canada alone and nearly 3 million albums internationally. They have won 7 Juno Awards and have been nominated 23 times, including three nods for their most recent studio album Afraid of Heights (Group of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Ian D’Sa for Producer of the Year). They have also been nominated for 32 MMVA Awards – taking home the prize 10 times. In 2018 the group was honoured with the Legends of Live Special Achievement Award, presented by Canadian Music Week. Most recently, Billy Talent have launched the Billy Talent Charitable Trust to give more back to the organizations that the band supports.

About PUP: PUP is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 2010. Each of PUP’s three albums (their self-titled debut in 2013, 2016’s The Dream Is Over, and 2019’s Morbid Stuff), has been a meticulously curated work that has taken its respective toll on the band. “We’ve all individually and collectively lost our minds in the undertaking that is our creative process,” says guitarist Steve Sladkowski. “I’m not trying to make it sound like it’s some Herculean thing, but the way in which we work is such that it involves a lot of stress.” And their hard work has paid off, landing them on Best of the Year lists from outlets like Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. For This Place Sucks Ass, however, they say it was relieving to let loose and put something into the world that values pleasure over perfection.

NOBRO , who cut their teeth on the road with bands like FIDLAR and PUP, are joining for both legs of the cross Canada tour.

The upcoming tour will come on the heels of the release of Billy Talent’s forthcoming album  CRISIS OF FAITH .  The ten track LP was produced entirely by the band’s guitarist and main songwriter, Juno-nominated producer Ian D’Sa, in the band’s Toronto studio and was mixed by the legendary Chris Lord-Alge.   The album is set for release on  January 21, 2022 .   It has been heralded by the #1 hit singles “Reckless Paradise” and “I Beg to Differ (This Will Get Better),” along with the anthemic prog-inspired “Forgiveness I + II.”  Billy Talent’s just-released single, “End of Me,” featuring Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, is the band’s fastest ever entry into the Rock Top 10, arriving there just 10 days after the song’s release.

In addition to being available digitally, on CD and on Vinyl LP, a special limited-edition Deluxe Vinyl Package of the new album is available for pre-order.   A multi-channel Dolby Atmos mix of the album will also be available digitally.    Pre-order/Pre-Save  CRISIS OF FAITH   here .

Earlier today, the band dropped a music video for “End of Me (feat. Rivers Cuomo” that was created by UK video artist, Liam Lynch, who played all of the characters in the video.

On Rise Against’s new album Nowhere Generation, released June 4th via Loma Vista Recordings, the multi-Gold and Platinum band draw a line in the sand with its blazing and aggressive punk rock and lyrics that shine a spotlight on the social and economical deck that has been stacked against our younger generations’ pursuit of The American Dream. The album debuted at the top of multiple Billboard charts with its first week sales (#1 on Rock, #3 on Top Current Albums, #3 on Vinyl, and the Top 40 of the Top 200) and the title track lead single earned the Chicago-based band their first #1 spot at Rock radio in the U.S. Nowhere Generation has earned praise and acclaim via Revolver, Consequence, LoudWire, Brooklyn Vegan,  Grammy.com , Kerrang!, American Songwriter, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, and more.

About Billy Talent

Billy Talent is a Canadian punk rock band from Mississauga, Ontario. They formed in 1993 with Benjamin Kowalewicz as the lead vocalist, Ian D'Sa on guitar, bassist Jon Gallant and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk. There have been no lineup changes, although Aaron is currently taking a hiatus from the band due to an MS relapse, Jordan Hastings from Alexisonfire, Cunter and Say Yes is currently filling in for him. In the 24 years since their inception, Billy Talent sold well over one million albums in Canada alone and nearly 3 million albums internationally. The band existed for almost a decade before mainstream success. The members met and played in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School under the name Pezz and remained underground in Toronto's indie music scene until 2001. The band renamed itself Billy Talent after running into legal trouble with the old name. It was then that Kowalewicz's connection with an employee of Warner Music Canada's A&R department landed the band a record deal and launched them into mainstream success. Since then, Billy Talent has made three multi-platinum records in Canada, and continues to expand their success overseas, this included touring for 20 months supporting their second album. They released their third album, entitled Billy Talent III, on July 14, 2009, and their fourth album, entitled Dead Silence, on September 4, 2012. Dead Silence was followed up by a full UK tour over the course of October and November 2012. To commemorate the longevity since the release of their first studio album, the band has released a greatest hits album entitled Hits on November 4, 2014. The band regrouped and began to prepare material for its fifth studio album. Just prior to entering the studio, drummer Aaron Solowoniuk made the difficult decision to sit out the recording sessions while he continued his longstanding battle with multiple sclerosis. Fellow Canadian Jordan Hastings was quickly recruited to play as Solowoniuk's studio stand-in, and in early 2016 the group completed work on Afraid of Heights, which was released that July.

Billy Talent (formed in 1993) is a Canadian punk rock, post-hardcore, and alternative rock four-piece, hailing from Streetsville, Ontario, Canada.

Formed of high school friends Ben Kowalewicz (vocalist), Ian D’Sa (guitarist), Jon Gallant (bassist), and Aaron Solowoniuk (drummer), Billy Talent had previously performed under the moniker Pezz. Featuring a punk-revivalist sound the band made their debut recording “Demoluca” in D’Sa’s basement in 1994. After a subsequent demo “Dudebox” the band started to gain more exposure in and around Toronto aided by their debut full-length “Watoosh”. The independently-released album, produced by Brad Nelson, introduced the band’s new new pop punk delivery with Kowalewicz singing in melody with D’Sa. After pressure from American punk band Pezz, the band became Billy Talent and began wiggling their way towards a recording contract. After a useful connection with Jen Hirst, who was later hired by Warner Music Canada, led to meeting their producer Gavin Brown, the band singed a co-agreement with Atlantic Records and Warner Music Canada in 2002.

Billy Talent’s major-label debut “Billy Talent” was released in the Autumn of 2003 and earned positive reviews from the musical press. Noted for its singles “Try Honesty”, “The Ex”, “River Below” and “Nothing to Lose”, the album peaked at No 6 on the Canadian Albums chart and went on to be certified 3x platinum. The release also led to receiving two Juno Awards for Best Album of the Year, and Best Band of the Year, and was promoted with an extensive tour of Canada, the U.S., and parts of Europe.

Recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia, “Billy Talent II” was issued in June 2006 and topped the album chart in Canada. Having developed from the un-focused, profanity-rich thrust of their debut, “Billy Talent II” represents a more mature band who continue to develop their sound. Once again Billy Talent supported the album with a 18-month worldwide tour including small shows in the likes of Finland and Belgium, as well as arena shows alongside Rise Against, Anti-Flag, and Moneen.

The album “Billy Talent III” appeared in 2009 following appearances at Coachella festival, the UK’s Download and Reading & Leeds Festivals, and Australia’s Soundwave Festival. The band’s third full-length, like its predecessor, topped the Canadian Albums Chart, spawning the singles “Turn Your Back”, “Rusted from the Rain”, and “Devil on My Shoulder”. Ahead of their fourth album Billy Talent released the singles “Viking Death March” and “Surprise Surprise”. The album, “Dead Silence”, arrived in September 2012 and earned much stronger reviews than its predecessor for its ambitious change of style.

Live reviews

Deceptively nobody in Canadian punk rock band Billy Talent is actually named Billy yet they do have an untapped amount of talent when it comes to a live performance. Forming two decades ago, the group have graced countless venues with their raucous tours and have honed their skills as musicians as an outfit for many years. A consistency as a group has meant that recordings, albums and accompanying tours have always been a collective effort so every member is fully behind it.

With four studio albums to pick from whilst performing and a Greatest Hits collection, the setlist has great fluidity and structure. It caters for the devoted fans who would have discovered the group back in the day when they first started out as well as those who will have come aboard later on as their commerciality grew across the UK and the US. There is great unity through the venue and a unity with this hard working and attentive band. They finish on a double hit of scuzzy anthems 'Surprise Surprise' and 'Red Flag' and even though they have been on stage for a twelve track set, the fans still show audible distain that the show has had to come to an end.

I had never been to a Billy Talent concert before. I was totally shocked- had no idea how lively it'd be! He came out screaming asking "How are you?!" in a classic rock move and then immediately the pyrotechnics started, sending sparks and lights everywhere, flashing and sending up smoke. I swear to god it was like there was a dragon on stage.

The audience was jumping up and down, screaming along and throwing rocker hands (I have NO idea what the term is- the pointer and pinkie up? Sorry, first rock concert!) He kept shouting questions at the audience and we'd scream back. The place smelled of sweat and was hot as heck after, but I don't think there was a single person there who hadn't been dancing and having a blast.

His guitar work was excellent, as were the drums and vocals and bass. (The bassist haircut was really funky and cool! Might get my boyfriend to try it!) Compared to other concerts I've been to the pyrotechnics were top notch and would have made the concert with it even if Billy Talent sucked, which is nowhere near the case.

I give the concert a 10/10, I'm definitely gonna go to the next one.

Billy Talent is a rock band hailing from Canada. In true rock style, they are a force on stage. The band is lively, energetic , and displays a very raw, real talent for music. Skilled musicians, the band open with a flash of fireworks to signal their arrival and immediately enter into a complicated ensemble before breaking out the first tune. The band’s presence on stage is perfectly suited to their music: the power behind their songs is magnified on stage as the band members thrash about, screaming greetings to the audience and stirring up a mosh pit of wild applause. They dance on stage, rock out, jump up and down with their instruments and constantly motivate the crowd. The venue was packed with rockers and the atmosphere was incredible. ‘Try Honesty’, ‘Ex’ and ‘River Below’ were all met with cheers and wild applause and were three of the highlights of the night. ‘Nothing to Lose’ opened the night and ‘Fallen Leaves’ ended the night, in spectacular style. The whole audience left sweaty as hell and absolutely pumped.

Billy Talent are a hugely underrated band in the UK and should fill arenas.

That said nothing beats seeing one of your favourite bands in an intimate venue like the O2 Bristol.

Better still the band are touring on the back of the sensational new album that is Afraid Of Heights and a big chunk of their setlist came from this record. But they have a very strong back catalogue with songs like Fallen Leaves and Red Flag which should be in every self respecting hard rock fan's top 100 songs of all time.

The band performed with great energy and are really engaging getting full commitment from every member of the audience.

I left drained, sweaty and completely satisfied.

Great band, great show.

It was sold out. Full. They sounded great, they were fine. However, it is really disappointing that a band with 5 full albums with a sold out, plays for less than 90 minutes (counting with the encore). Sold out means you have too many fans that couldn't even make it to the show. The least you could do (Billy Talent) is rocking with a huge set list. Yes, the sound was great, yes they were moving the audience. But came on. 30€ for each of us there should pay for much more. And you (BT), had the audience screaming since minute 0 until the very end. It seemeded to me that you were just completing the mission, and that is not what a true band should do. 0 extra miles. Cheers.

Afraid of Heights tour, Ottawa, 3/3/17: Absolutely amazing show that exceeded my high expectations. Opened by The Dirty Nil and Monster Trucks who, like Billy Talent, are both brilliant, passionate Canadian rock groups. BT is incredibly talented, consistently high-energy, and so fun to see live. They played some songs off the new album and many older ones too. Ben spoke to the crowd often and made it personal to the city. He talked about diversity and said that all fans are welcomed equally with open arms. Being in the front row of GA was an added bonus. Recommend 11/10, would go again in a heartbeat!

I'm Angela Irvine from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada! I've seen several of their concerts! Loved them all , specially Benjamin! The place they play in here insn't too small or too large, just right! They had one show set up with tables with candles and could buy alcoholic beverages, it was sweet! Of course there was a spot out front for dancing! If I were younger, I'd be up front! They all do a fabulous job! One of the last best rock stars around!

The Billy Talent concert was one of the best concerts I've been to in my life. The opening acts were good, (Monster Truck and the Dirty Nil) and Billy Talent was amazing. They played a lot of music off of older albums, while incorporating some of their new material off of the album "Afraid of Heights." As somebody that has been a Billy Talent fan for about 12 years, I can say that seeing them live was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I love this band! I love everything about them especially Benjamin Kowalewicz, the lead singer! I have only felt true feelings for Kurt Cobain of Nirvana previously. Now Benjamin! He's a great performer and love his voice! They will be performing here in Edmonton, AB, Canada this Friday, the 20th of July! I'm going and pray to meet Benjamin! For those whom read this, please send out your wishes for me to meet him!❤

The night was amazing. Started strong and only got better. The encore couldn't of been more perfect, with them playing Fallen Leaves and finishing up with Red Flag, which whilst not my favourite song, was my first introduction to the band and a good crowd pleaser, and at the end of such a great night, I couldn't have been more engrossed in it regardless

Billy Horschel earns 2-shot win in Dominican Republic

  • Associated Press

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic -- Billy Horschel went to the Dominican Republic for the first time in search of momentum and came away with a PGA Tour victory he sorely needed Sunday.

Horschel ran off four straight birdies on the front nine to get in the mix, began to pull away with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and closed with a 9-under 63 for a 2-shot victory in the Corales Puntacana Championship.

"This game of golf is so fickle," Horschel said. "You can put a lot into it and not get everything you want out of it. I knew ... I had the ability, I had the talent. I had to continue to believe the good stuff was going to come to the forefront."

Horschel, who started the final round 3 shots behind, all but sealed it with an 18-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole.

Wesley Bryan , trying to go wire-to-wire, was bogey-free with four birdies and still only 1 shot behind late in the round. But right after Horschel made his final birdie, Bryan missed a par putt from just outside 2 feet and fell 3 behind.

Bryan birdied the 18th for a 68 and was runner-up, which will get him into the AT&T Byron Nelson in two weeks. He was playing on a sponsor exemption. Kevin Tway shot 69 and finished third.

Horschel finished at 23-under 265 and earned $720,000.

He won for the eighth time on the PGA Tour and the first time in nearly two years. This gets him into the PGA Championship next month, and he likely will be in the next $20 million signature event at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Those are the tournaments Horschel, a former FedEx Cup champion, was used to playing. The opposite-field events are seen as a chance for younger players to get their first win. In the case of Horschel, it was crucial to get some confidence back.

He delivered one of his best closing rounds when he needed it -- the four straight birdies starting on the par-3 second hole, a 31 on the front nine, the eagle on No. 12 to seize control, and no bogeys over the last 30 holes of the tournament.

It was nearly a year ago at the Memorial that Horschel, the defending champion at Muirfield Village, shot 84 and was near tears talking about how low his confidence had fallen. He missed the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time since 2012.

He had shown signs this year with a pair of top 10s, and now has a victory for validation. Along with getting into the PGA Championship at Valhalla, he is assured of starting next year at Kapalua in The Sentry.

From Broderick Turner : In a game that became testy in the fourth quarter, the health of Kawhi Leonard was paramount for the Clippers .

Leonard was listed as questionable with right knee inflammation for Game 3, and though he started Friday night, he rarely looked sharp during the Clippers’ 101-90 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

Leonard, who was in and out of the game, departed for the final time with 4:09 left and the Clippers down by 15 points.

He played 25 minutes and produced nine points, nine rebounds and four turnovers in a game the Clippers once trailed by 21 points in the fourth quarter.

“It (the inflammation) was pretty good the first game,” Leonard said. “Like I said, it didn’t respond the way we wanted it to. Tonight it was either play limited minutes or not play. And I wanted to be on the floor to help the team. And, that’s what the results are. Frustrating that it happened to me this late in the season. But, yeah, we’re going to keep going. We’re going to get it right.”

Paul George, who was in foul trouble all game, had just seven points, going three for 11 from the field, one for six from three-point range.

The game grew tense in the fourth quarter when Russell Westbrook, who missed all seven of his shots and all four of his three-pointers to finish with one point, got into it with Luka Doncic, the two of them pushing each other. Westbrook and P.J. Washington then shoved each other. Eventually, Westbrook and Washington, who got into a trash-talking situation with Terance Mann, were given technical fouls and ejected .

From Bill Plaschke : The chant began in the final minutes of another lost season, the blame thundering down from furious Laker fans in four sharp syllables.

“Fi-re Dar-vin … Fi-re Dar-vin … Fi-re Dar-vin.”

The Lakers are on the precipice of a second consecutive playoff disaster, and it’s becoming clear who could take the fall.

In the wake of Thursday’s 112-105 loss to the splendidly coached Denver Nuggets at Crypto.com Arena, the smoking wreckage has seemingly trapped one man.

Darvin Ham , just one season after being the toast of the town, is in danger of being toast.

From Jack Harris : The boos rained down before Shohei Ohtani ’s name even was announced.

They only got louder as he trotted around the bases.

Back in December, Blue Jays fans thought they were about to win Ohtani’s free-agent sweepstakes — teased by online reports that the two-way star was flying to Toronto and likely to sign with the Canadian club.

Instead, the social media rumors ultimately were debunked. The internet sleuths tracking his supposed private jet turned out to be wrong. And a day after his infamous fake flight to Toronto, he announced he was signing with the Dodgers on a record-breaking $700-million deal .

Five months later, the frustration in Toronto still hasn’t dissipated.

In Ohtani’s first trip back to Rogers Centre, he was welcomed Friday by boos. Then, with his first swing, he responded with a towering home run to spark the Dodgers to a 12-2 win.

‘He’s gonna be a Blue Jay.’ Inside the day Shohei Ohtani did not fly to Toronto

MLB standings

Bailey Ober took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, Carlos Santana homered and the Minnesota Twins extended their winning streak to five games, beating the Angels 5-3 on Friday night.

Santana drove in two runs, while Byron Buxton, Ryan Jeffers and Willi Castro each had an RBI to help the Twins win the opener of a three-game series and a six-game trip.

Ober (2-1) was charged with two runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts to continue his recent domination after he gave up eight runs on nine hits over 1 1/3 innings of his season debut against Kansas City. In his four starts since, Ober has a 1.47 ERA over 24 1/3 innings, while allowing a combined 11 hits.

Patrick Sandoval (1-4) gave up four runs (three earned) over 5 2/3 innings for the Angels, who lost for the seventh time in their last eight games. Nolan Schanuel drove in a pair of runs for Los Angeles and Zach Neto had an RBI.

Round-by-round picks for Day 2

From Gary Klein : The Rams started Day 2 of the NFL draft Friday by addressing their defensive line, selecting Florida State tackle Braden Fiske with the seventh pick of the second round, the 39th pick overall. The Rams, who had the 52nd pick, traded with Carolina to make the selection.

The Rams sought a player who could help them make up for the loss of the recently retired Aaron Donald. Fiske, who played at Western Michigan before transferring to Florida State for his final season, joins a front that includes second-year pros Kobie Turner, edge rushers Byron Young and Michael Hoecht and nose tackle Bobby Brown III.

Top pick Jared Verse thrilled Rams also picked his Florida State linemate

From Jeff Miller : The Chargers started Day 2 of the NFL draft Friday by getting receiving help, selecting Georgia’s Ladd McConkney with the second pick of the second round, the 34th selection overall. The Chargers made a deal with New England to swap their fifth pick for the Patriots’ second pick of the round to make the selection.

After trading Keenan Allen and releasing Mike Williams in March because of salary-cap issues, the Chargers had a significant need at wide receiver. Somewhat undersized, McConkey is known for his quickness off the line of scrimmage and open-field speed. He ran a 4.39-second 40 at the combine. His potential was enough that the Chargers traded with New England to move up three spots in the second round to draft him.

USC BASKETBALL

From Thuc Nhi Nguyen : She coached USC to its first Elite Eight since 1994 , won the program’s first conference tournament title in a decade and drew the largest crowd for women’s basketball in Galen Center history. It was just the beginning for Lindsay Gottlieb .

The third-year coach and USC agreed to a contract extension through the 2029-30 season, the university announced Friday, as the Trojans try to continue their success with Gottlieb, national freshman of the year JuJu Watkins and the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class set to join.

“We set out to restore USC to the highest echelon of women’s basketball,” Gottlieb said in a statement, “and the magic we experienced this season was a byproduct of the vision, belief and efforts of so many — our administration, fans, players past and present, and our entire coaching staff. But this is just the beginning. We have much more to accomplish. I’m thrilled to be here for a long time.”

From Kevin Baxter : Zach Hyman, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid were three of the most dangerous scorers during the NHL regular season, combining for 127 goals and 315 points for the Edmonton Oilers. Stopping one of them is a challenge, stopping all three is pretty much impossible.

The Kings certainly haven’t found a way to do it, with Hyman, Draisaitl and McDavid combining for five goals and three assists Friday in a 6-1 Oilers win that gave Edmonton a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven first-round playoff series the trio have dominated.

The loss was just the fifth in the Kings’ last 19 games at Crypto.com Arena, but it might prove to be the most costly since it swung the momentum of the series back to Edmonton and neutralized home-ice advantage should the series go seven games.

The way Hyman, Draisaitl and McDavid have been playing, that seems unlikely.

The trio has combined for 10 goals and 13 assists in the series. Three of the goals came in the first period Friday, burying the Kings in a hole they could never climb out of.
