How far is the Chunky Monkey Beach Club from the Costa Maya cruise port?

The Chunky Monkey Beach Club and Restaurant is within a 15 minute drive from the Costa Maya cruise port. That means as soon as your cruise ship docks; you can take a taxi or take a short walk to our Beach Club! On the way, you can enjoy the crystal blue Caribbean Sea and walk on the beaches.

If you have bought one of our shore excursions, we provide transportation from the Costa Maya cruise port to the destination of your excursion and then to our private beach club after. Once you get to the Chunky Monkey Beach Club, you can enjoy a delicious lunch made of local food with amazing drinks from our bar. You can purchase our beach club day pass, where you can do some water sports over a duration of 5 hours by going on a snorkeling excursion or getting a massage, eating a yummy lunch, getting some fun drinks, and relaxing on the beaches of Costa Maya!

Can you get a full refund for your shore excursions?

Here at Chunky Monkey, we genuinely care about our customers and want them to have a spectacular time. That’s why we offer a full refund for anyone who chooses to cancel their trip more than 24 hours before it’s scheduled to happen since we will need time to process it. You can cancel by calling, and we will be glad to help you. If you cancel after those 24 hours, we will not be providing a full refund.

We also offer a no port, no pay policy, so if your cruise ship doesn’t arrive at the Costa Maya cruise port in time, you will receive a free refund, or we can reschedule your tours for another day. The same goes for excursions that rely on good weather. If there happens to be a lot of rain or thunderstorms, we will issue a full refund or schedule the excursions for another time that suits you. Time wise you should be ok. Tour start and estimated length is key.

Never heard of Leon Tours but check Native Choice for similar tour. These guys are excellent.

I haven't gone yet.  Just starting my research.  Travelling with one other "planner", 3 who just want to know where and when to show up and 2 who are maintaining complete radio silence so I have no ideas from them!  LOL

Fernab der Zivilisation liegen die Maya Ruinen Kohunlich . Von der gut ausgebauten Landstraße führt eine Schotterpiste für ca. 10 Kilometer ins Inland. Allein die Anreise ist atemberaubend. Während zu Beginn der Straße der typische Trockenwald das Bild prägt, wechselt die Vegetation plötzlich zu tropischem Regenwald mit meterhohen verwunschenen Palmen. Das Grün scheint die Straße zu verschlucken, so wie es über hunderte von Jahren die eindrucksvollen Gebäude der Maya unter sich begraben hat.

In dem weitläufigen Gelände Kohunlich zeigen die Strukturen eine architektonische Nähe zu Guatemala und sind damit älter als die meisten Maya Stätten im Norden der Yucatan Halbinsel. Am beeindruckendsten ist sicherlich der Palast der Masken , der ganz am Ende des Komplexes liegt. Diese Masken zeigen menschliche Gesichter, jede mit Elementen des wichtigen Maya Sonnengottes .

Die Maya Ruinen  Kohunlich sind ca. 2 Stunden von der Costa Maya entfernt. Ein Landausflug ab Costa Maya dauert daher etwa 7 Stunden.

Der Kreuzfahrthafen Costa Maya wurde zwei Mal von einem Hurrikan getroffen, so dass Teile des Hafens neu erbaut wurden. Das Hafengelände hat eine schöne Pool-Landschaft, viele Restaurants und Bars . Insgesamt ist der Costa Maya Hafen etwas teurer als Cozumel. Die Strände im nahegelegenen Mahahual sind wunderschön und an der Uferpromenade reiht sich ein Beach Club an den nächsten. Alles ist auf die Bedürfnisse der Urlauber abgestimmt.

Landausflüge Costa Maya: Transport

Costa Maya hat kein öffentliches Transportsystem. Das liegt an dem Taximonopol, welches den Taxifahrern besondere Rechte bei der Personenbeförderung einräumt. Bei Ankunft eines Kreuzfahrtschiffes warten die Taxis am einzigen Ausgang in einer Schlange.

Aufgrund des fehlenden öffentlichen Transportes bleiben den Costa Maya Tages-Gästen folgende Fortbewegungs-Möglichkeiten:

Auch wenn Costa Maya relativ nah an Mahahual liegt, sind die Distanzen zu Fuß bei der Hitze relativ beschwerlich. Die Uferpromenade von Mahahual ist lang, daher sollte man seine Kräfte für das Auf- und Abspazieren aufheben.

Direkt nach der Ankunft auf Costa Maya warten zahlreiche Taxifahrer. Taxis sind aus den oben genannten Gründen teuer und es empfiehlt sich immer, den Preis vorher zu vereinbaren. Taxifahrer sind es gewohnt, den Preis pro Person zu nennen.

Die Costa Maya hat das ganze Jahr über sommerliche Temperaturen. Die beste Reisezeit ist zwischen November und April, denn im Sommer kann es sehr heiß werden. Touristische Hochsaison ist zu Weihnachten und Ostern, denn viele Gäste aus Europa und den USA nutzen die freien Tage für einen Urlaub. Das merkt man vor allem an höheren Flug- und Hotelpreisen. In den Monaten Dezember bis Februar sind es durchschnittlich 22-28 Grad. Dann ist es Winter bei uns. Wenn der Wind dreht und aus dem Norden weht, kann es nachts frisch werden. Daher solltest Du ein Jäckchen einpacken.

In den Monaten März und April ist die kurze Trockenzeit. Die Luftfeuchtigkeit ist noch nicht zu hoch und es ist sehr angenehm warm. Ab Mai steigen die Temperaturen auf 30 – 35 Grad. Dann kann es schwül werden. Es regnet hin und wieder, jedoch meist nicht mehr als eine Stunde. Diese Regengüsse sind sehr angenehm. Die Sommermonate eignen sich perfekt für einen Badeurlaub.

Für Mexiko brauchst Du kein Visum, aber der Reisepass sollte nach dem Ausreisedatum aus Deutschland noch 6 Monate gültig sein. Im Flugzeug wird die Touristenkarte FMM mit einer Gültigkeit von 180 Tagen ausgeteilt. Zusammen mit der Touristenkarte bekommt man ein Formular, auf dem angegeben werden muss, ob Lebensmittel oder pflanzliche bzw. tierische Produkte in Mexiko eingeführt werden. Auch mehr als 10.000 Dollar in bar müssen deklariert werden. Diese Formulare können in aller Ruhe im Flugzeug ausgefüllt werden. Daher ist es ratsam, einen Stift ins Handgepäck zu packen.

Die beiden Formulare müssen bei der Einreise abgegeben werden. Die Touristenkarte wird von dem Mitarbeiter an der Migration verlangt. Der untere Abschnitt wird abgestempelt. Dieser verbleibt als Kopie im Reisepass. Verliere ihn nicht, da sonst bei Ausreise eine Strafgebühr von 25 Euro anfällt.

Nach der Migration können die Koffer abgeholt werden. Vor Verlassen des Flughafens werden die Koffer noch geröntgt. Dabei wird der Abschnitt einbehalten, auf dem angegeben ist, was eingeführt wird. Gelegentliche Stichproben überprüfen, ob alle Angaben richtig sind.

Für Mexiko bestehen keine Impfvorschriften. Trotzdem empfiehlt sich vor Reiseantritt ein Blick in den Impfpass. Der Tetanus- und Polioschutz sollte vor Fernreisen  überprüft werden, bei Aufenthalten in entlegeneren Gebieten auch die Aktualität der Typhus- und Hepatitisimpfung. Malaria ist an der Ostküste Mexikos nicht verbreitet, allerdings treten selten Fälle von Dengue oder Zika auf. Daher gehört ein Mückenschutz und lange leichte Kleidung für den Abend mit ins Reisegepäck. Mückenschutz kann aber auch vor Ort überall gekauft werden.

Leitungswasser solltest Du in Mexiko nicht trinken, das ist nur zum Duschen und Waschen geeignet. Abgefülltes Wasser in Flaschen oder aus einem Kanister (Container mit 20 Liter Wasser) ist zum Trinken geeignet. Einwürfel werden aus Trinkwasser hergestellt. Medikamente können in Apotheken ohne Rezept gekauft werden und sind günstiger als in Deutschland.

Die offizielle Landeswährung ist der mexikanische Pesos. Vor allem in den Touristengebieten in Cancun, rund um Playa del Carmen und auch auf Cozumel gibt es überall Wechselstuben, die Euros und Dollar in Pesos eintauschen. Auch der Dollar ist als Zahlungsmittel weit verbreitet. In den großen Supermärkten bekommt man einen sehr guten Wechselkurs, wenn man mit Dollar bezahlt. Der Kurs ist oft besser als bei den Wechselstuben. In den touristischen Souvenirläden wird schlechter umgetauscht. Dort zahlt man besser mit Pesos. Vielerorts werden auch Euros akzeptiert. Jedoch nur Scheine, da Münzen in den Banken nicht gewechselt werden können.

Grundsätzlich ist es nicht nötig, in Deutschland Dollar einzutauschen. Viele Reisebüros empfehlen das zwar, man zahlt aber doppelte Wechselgebühr. Denn man muss zunächst in Dollar umtauschen und die Kosten für den Umtausch tragen. Und dann muss der Dollar in Mexiko in Pesos umgetauscht werden. Dabei kann man fast überall genauso einfach Euros in Pesos wechseln. Auch kann ganz einfach mit den gängigen Kreditkarten an den Geldautomaten Pesos abgehoben werden. Aus Sicherheitsgründen empfehlen sich die Geldautomaten in den großen Supermärkten oder in Banken.

Zeitverschiebung

Die Zeitverschiebung zwischen Deutschland und der Riviera Maya beträgt im Winter 6, im Sommer 7 Stunden. An der mexikanischen Riviera Maya gibt es keine Zeitumstellungen, das heißt es gibt keine Sommer- bzw. Winterzeit. Jedoch sollte man bei der Flugbuchung berücksichtigen, dass durch die Zeitverschiebung der Rückflug manchmal erst einen Tag nach dem Abflugtag in Deutschland ankommt.
