Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras

Roatán, about 65 kilometers (40 miles) off the coast of Honduras, is the Central American country’s largest island, and it sits atop an ancient, exposed coral reef. If that’s not intriguing enough for you, consider this: It is also positioned near the second-largest barrier reef in the entire world, the Mesoamerican Reef. The unique—and fragile—ecosystem is a draw for those who are interested in Honduran flora and fauna (butterflies, hummingbirds and monkeys are among the creatures you might see here) as well as those interested in beaches that invite maximum relaxation. Mahogany Bay, an eight-hectare (20-acre) section of Roatán’s port, has about 275 meters (900 feet) of white-sand beach, which can be reached by chairlift. In the Mahogany Bay cruise center, visitors will find unique restaurants and stores, including some selling local art made of salvaged materials. Other opportunities to shop include the Stone Castle Cameo Factory, where you can purchase cameos crafted from Honduran conch shells. Roatan, Honduras

Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, is noted for its pristine coral reefs, beautiful beaches, lush tropical foliage, and friendly people. Christopher Columbus discovered the islands in 1502 while on his fourth voyage and over the years it has been controlled by both the British and Spanish, as well as pirates and traders. The first permanent population of Roatan originated from the Cayman Islands, arriving in the 1830s shortly after the end of slavery in British colonies. Today, the population is about 30,000. The main town and capital of the municipality is Coxen Hole. Roatan is a long, narrow island measuring 37 miles in length, located about 30 miles from the northern Honduran mainland. The island has a mountainous backbone that provides for some excellent hiking opportunities, panoramas and lush scenery. Surrounded by warm Caribbean waters, this hilly island (frequented by diving enthusiasts) is picturesque, unspoiled and can take claim to being one of the region's fastest developing destinations.

En la cumbre, prevista para el viernes, se abordará la crisis diplomática entre México y Ecuador y se discutirá el "uso indebido de la fuerza violentando el principio de inviolabilidad de las sedes diplomáticas y el secuestro del exvicepresidente Jorge Glas".

La propuesta de Castro es organizar un grupo con siete de estos Estados para "definir acciones" que lleven a que Ecuador “rectifique por los hechos ocurridos en violación flagrante”.

El encuentro buscará una estrategia que también permita "promover el diálogo para normalizar las relaciones con México", luego de que el Gobierno mexicano anunciara la ruptura de relaciones diplomáticas con Ecuador y advirtiera que presentará una denuncia ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ).
