“Smooth Booking Experience”

I booked a flight to Miami with crystal travel around 2 weeks back. Now that my travel is complete, I want to share my overall experience. 1. Website is easy to navigate, providing smooth booking experience 2. They called me after booking to confirm if I have received the tickets. I was impressed 3. They sent me a travel reminder a day before my journey 4. What they committed is what I got during travel I highly recommend them. Hoping for a similar experience in future as well.

“GO AWAY!”

I search airway ticket from Momondo and they are the cheapest one, I jump right in and enter passenger name, dob(ONLY!) no passport info asked(here may be the hints), and then next page, it asked me enter credit card info to pay. Okay, everything good. Then the payment page jump from their page to worldpay(which is fine) and there, I have to enter some repeat info. Okay then. Right after I paid, the next page told me my tickets are on waiting list and asked me to call their phone. Okay, I spent 2 hours calling, lots of waiting, and one of their million staff call back saying my flight price changed, and ask me a higher price one, I refuse and ask for refund, he said it takes 5 days for it. I might update the story later for this. Hope my momey will come back!

No matter how well planned your trip may be, unexpected problems can inconvenience your travel plans. There are a few scenarios where having travel insurance would be important.

  • You are involved in a traffic accident  after trying to avoid a tire in the road while on your way to the airport, causing you to miss your flight.
  • You family’s beach  vacation is interrupted  when an incoming hurricane causes mandatory evacuations along the coast.

IDENTITY THEFT RESOLUTION

The Identity Theft Resolution Services become available on your scheduled departure date for your trip. Services end 180 days (six months) from the date of your scheduled departure date for your trip. Provides service and security for an entire year, including phone calls to credit agencies, police report filing and legal paperwork. Only available for incidents involving U.S. bank accounts. Not available for thefts involving non-U.S. bank accounts.

Before someone pipes up, yes we are to blame as we wanted seats without paying over the odds. But at the time Crystal Travel had the seats on the perfect days at a good prices, others were cheaper but as we had used them once before we trusted they would be OK.

After booking with Crystal Travel we contacted our airline direct who issued us the e-ticket. So we didn't think there could be a problem. We had our tickets and were looking forward to our trip. How silly do we feel now.

We were to fly to Bangkok tomorrow on a 2 week holiday, late last night we had a call from Crystal Travel saying that the Airline (Qatar) had cancelled our seats but they could book us onto another better airline (aeroflot) we didn't want to fly with Aeroflot and there would be an extra charge for this anyway. As it was late at night we couldn't contact the airline in the UK. So we called the US where we were told that Crystal Travel had requested a refund for our seats. It seems that as they were our agents they could do this without our consent and now the flight had no seats for us.

As you can imagine we were/are devastated and many heated phones calls through the night and all today proceed the news. It seems Crystal Travel have done this many many times over the years and this time have left at least a dozen in the same situation with Qatar airlines just today. Qatar although very helpful said our contract was with the agent not them there was nothing they could do for us and at this late stage there were next to no seats left.

We were forced to pay almost double for new tickets this time direct with the airline . We are lucky we were able to do this I'm sure others may not have been able to.

We have been told by Crystal Travel that they would refund us and we have been in contact with our card issuer who said we are covered BUT THAT ISN'T THE POINT.

We have just paid more for flights than I have ever paid in my life just so we don't lose our dream holiday.

There is something to be said for booking with one of the big name travel agents. You may pay a little more but you will be able to sleep at night. Crystal Travel are liars, cheats and some of the rudest people we have ever had to deal with. Don't be fooled by their UK number and address to are based overseas.

We have taken legal advice and have been told we have a case for breach of contract and will be taking it further.

Crystal Travel also seem to fix reviews as you always see amazing reviews just after really bad ones. DON'T BE FOOLED like us.

Has anyone else here had a problem recently with Crystal Travel especially in the last few days?

You have a contract with the agency and not with the airline . That is one consequence of booking with an agency. You have another set of T&C's on top of the one of the airline .

The credit will only side with you, if you should have not received a ticket. But if you have received a ticket, then decided to cancel, the T&C's you marked during the booking process as read, understood and agreed to will count.

Sadly so many people do not read the T&Cs they are agreeing to OR do even the briefest research into the company they are paying their money to

Extremely unhappy with Crystal Travel. I honestly would give zero stars if that was possible. What a JOKE of a company. Their customer service is complete garbage. I would advise everyone to save their time, money, and energy. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THEM.

To anyone out there reading this, please do not make the same, stupid mistake that I made. Find another company because Crystal Travel is horrible and their customer service is non existent.

Why do you think you can get a refund after any amount of time?

Did you read their terms , especially the part where there might be no refunds.

If your reason is a valid one I( think you should try to make a claim on your travel insurance. Also as per there web site this is why they tell you need to have travel insurance to cover things like this where this company will not refund you.

Aura, I don’t know much about this agent but it there is nothing you say in your post that gives me the impression you are entitled to a refund or a free change.

Did you buy very expensive fully flexible tickets? If you didn’t an instead picked the cheapest fare type then the tickets will likely be no refunds, no changes. Doesn’t matter if you phone within 24 hours or 24 minutes.

So sounds like they have awful customer support just like all the other online cheap ticket floggers, maybe slightly better since you did get through once. So they could have politely told you that you are not entitled to either a refund or a change with the ticket you bought. Then hung up.

Airlines must cough up cancellation cash and can no longer hide fees under new federal rule

A federal rule announced Wednesday will require airlines to quickly give cash refunds — without lengthy arguments — to passengers whose flights have been canceled or seriously delayed, the Biden administration said.

“Passengers deserve to get their money back when an airline owes them — without headaches or haggling,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

The rule from the Transportation Department says passengers who decline other reimbursement like travel credits are to get cash refunds.

It applies when a flight is canceled or has a “significant change,” the administration said.

A “significant change” includes when departure or arrival times are three or more hours different from the scheduled times for domestic flights or six hours for international flights, and when the airport is changed or connections are added, it said.

Passengers are also to get refunds when their baggage is 12 hours late in delivery for domestic flights.

The new rule comes after promises to hold airlines accountable after major disruptions that made travel hell for passengers, including the 2022 Southwest Airlines meltdown , which resulted in almost 17,000 significantly delayed or canceled flights and a missing baggage nightmare.

The Transportation Department said that the new rule means refunds are automatic and that "airlines must automatically issue refunds without passengers having to explicitly request them or jump through hoops."

Also announced Wednesday was a rule requiring airlines to more clearly disclose so-called junk fees upfront, such as surprise baggage or other fees, the department said.

It said that rule is expected to save fliers around $500 million a year.

The surprise fees are used so tickets look cheaper than they really are, and then fliers get the unwelcome surprise of fees on checked bags, carry-on bags or reservation changes — or even discounts that are advertised but apply to only part of the ticket price, officials said.

Airlines will also have to tell fliers clearly that their seats are guaranteed and that they don't have to pay extra to ensure they have seats for flights, according to the Transportation Department.

Airlines for America, an industry trade group, said that its member airlines “offer transparency and vast choice to consumers from first search to touchdown” and that they do offer cash refunds.

The 11 largest U.S. airlines returned $10.9 billion in cash refunds last year, an increase over $7.5 billion in 2019 but slightly down from $11.2 billion in 2022, the group said.

“U.S. airlines are providing more options and better services while ticket prices, including ancillary revenues, are at historic lows,” Airlines for America said.

Left out of the federal changes announced Wednesday are those involving "family seating fees," but the Transportation Department said in a statement that "DOT is planning to propose a separate rule that bans airlines from charging these junk fees."

Travelers have complained to the Transportation D epartment that children weren’t seated next to accompanying adults, including in some cases young children, department officials said last year.

Fees on bags specifically have made up an increasing amount of airline revenues, the Transportation Department said Wednesday in announcing the new rules.

A Transportation Department analysis found that airline revenue from baggage fees increased 30% from 2018 to 2022, while operating revenue — which is from the flights themselves — increased by only half that amount, the department said.
