Deacon Blue

Deacon Blue are a Scottish pop rock band formed in Glasgow during 1985. They will be making their first ever appearance at Wychwood Festival by closing the festival on Sunday 5th June 2022. The line-up of the band consists of vocalists Ricky Ross & Lorraine McIntosh, keyboard player James Prime and drummer Dougie Vipond. The band released their debut album, Raintown in 1987. Their second album, When the World Knows Your Name (1989), topped the UK Albums Chart for two weeks, and included Real Gone Kid which became their first top ten single in the UK Singles Chart.

The band split in 1994 but five years later they held a reunion gig which led on to a new album, Walking Back Home . Since then they have continued to perform and record new music. Deacon Blue

All The Old 45s: Deacon Blue announce unplugged and amplified Greatest Hits UK & Ireland 2023  tour.

Thirty-five years since their debut single, Dignity, and millions of record sales since, Deacon Blue are digging out all their old 45s - the Top 10s, the favourites, the sing-a-long rarities - and touring the UK & Ireland in September / October 2023. The band have always thrived onstage, but they’ve never played gigs quite like this: they’ll perform two sets, with no support. The first half will be an intimate acoustic show, and then they’ll go electric for a raucous trip across their hits.

Vocalist and songwriter Ricky Ross is raring to go on this celebration of Deacon Blue’s brilliant and loyal fans, roaring the Caledonian gospel from the South Coast to the Uplands.    “ We ’ve decided to play a Greatest Hits show with a difference,”   he says.  “Yes, we intend to play all (or nearly all) the old 45s, but we also want the first half of the evening to be an intimate acoustic performance, the band gathered round the piano with acoustic guitars and whatever Dougie decides to hit. We ’ll play some album tracks and reinterpret a few favourites from the back catalogue. We ’ll take a short break then come back and make a lot of noise. We hope you can be part of that noise.”

Deacon Blue UK Tour 2023

September 15, 2023.

deacon blue uk tour 2022

All The Old 45s: Deacon Blue announce unplugged and amplified Greatest Hits UK & Ireland 2023 tour, with a date at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena.

Thirty-five years since their debut single, Dignity, and millions of record sales since, Deacon Blue are digging out all their old 45s – the Top 10s, the favourites, the sing-a-long rarities – and touring the UK & Ireland in September / October 2023. The band have always thrived onstage, but they’ve never played gigs quite like this: they’ll perform two sets, with no support. The first half will be an intimate acoustic show, and then they’ll go electric for a raucous trip across their hits.

Kicking off in the birthplace of pop (as Ross’s recent memoir attests, everything comes back to The Beatles), the tour will launch in Liverpool – which has long held a special place in the band’s collective heart – before travelling the length of the land. Ross, co-vocalist Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond (drums), Jim Prime (keyboards), Gregor Philp (guitar) and Lewis Gordon (bass) will breathe new life into well-loved songs like Dignity, Loaded, Wages Day, Real Gone Kid, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, Your Swaying Arms, Twist & Shout, Your Town, The Hipsters and City Of Love. And so many more.

No under 14s are permitted in the standing zones. All under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are priced from £46.01-£57.31 per person.

The dates will culminate in a homecoming show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, a stone’s throw away from the Finnieston Crane, which defined their debut album, ‘Raintown’. It’s a suitably celebratory space for the final fling on a special tour of Deacon Blue’s greatest hits – and the rest – as they reel in the years and the ships and the songs, in the hurricane days and summers and suns, amplified and unplugged, surrounded by friends in cities of love.

Deacon Blue will return to Aberdeen in 2023

Legendary rockers Deacon Blue are heading back to Aberdeen next year as part of their new tour.

The Scottish band will take to the stage at P&J Live in 2023 for the "All the Old 45s - The Very Best Of" tour with fans being treated to some of the band's biggest hits from their extensive back catalogue.

And the show is set for a unique twist with the band performing two sets, with no support. The first half will be an intimate acoustic show, and then they’ll go electric for a "raucous trip" across their hits.

Riding on the Tide of Love in 2021 was the band's last album release and have two number one albums and 12 UK top 40 singles to their name.

Deacon Blue performed at P&J Live earlier this year and will return to the Granite City on Friday, October 13 with other gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh in the same month.

Formed in 1985, the band split in 1994 but reunited with the current line-up consisting of Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Gregor Philp, Jim Prime, and Lewis Gordon.

Louise Stewart, interim managing director at P&J Live, said: “Deacon Blue have a legion of Scottish fans who always get right behind the band when they’re in Aberdeen.

"The atmosphere is always electric when they’re playing to a home crowd, with everyone coming together to belt out hit after hit. We’re looking forward to hearing the set they’ve pulled together for 2023 on what will be a brilliant evening.”

‘Trentham Live is excited to unveil the last of the headline acts for their 2024 music extravaganza. This year’s 4-day musical event is the largest yet, with Busted, Jess Glynne, and Manic Street Preachers already confirmed. Mark your calendars from Thursday, August 15th to Sunday, August 18th, 2024, for four incredible performances in a singular setting!’

On Thursday, August 15th, Deacon Blue will headline at Trentham Live 2024, kicking off an exhilarating weekend against the beautiful backdrop of Trentham Estate.

Deacon Blue, formed in 1985 and known for their iconic debut album Raintown, released ‘All The Old 45s’ – The Very Best of Deacon Blue last year, along with a career-spanning anthology box set titled ‘You Can Have It All – The Complete Albums Collection,’ thirty-six years after their debut album.

The band is eager for their upcoming Summer performances, especially at The Trentham Estate in August. They anticipate showcasing their popular hits like Dignity, Loaded, Wages Day, Real Gone Kid, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, Your Swaying Arms, Twist & Shout, Your Town, The Hipsters, City Of Love, and more. Frontman Ricky Ross is excited to celebrate Deacon Blue’s impressive musical history with dedicated fans. He expressed enthusiasm for playing All The Old 45s at the picturesque Trentham stage.

Deacon Blue first shared their gospel of hope, work, dignity, and Scottish towns drenched in rain a lifetime ago. Their words still shield us today. Amidst changing times, their songs remain essential: in our cities, hearts, homes, especially in turbulent days.

Deacon Blue comprises Ricky Ross, co-vocalist Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond on drums, Jim Prime on keyboards, Gregor Philp on guitar, and Lewis Gordon on bass.

After the success of their arena tour last year, Deacon Blue eagerly anticipate showcasing numerous chart-topping hits for an unforgettable evening of music and entertainment amid the beautiful Trentham Estate surroundings.

Trentham Live has solidified its place as a prominent summer event in the UK festival lineup, attracting music fans from across regions and offering an unforgettable weekend for music enthusiasts of every age. “We’re thrilled to unveil our last headliners for Trentham Live 2024 and eagerly anticipate Deacon Blue’s performance on our stage!” announced Kerrie Pope, Head of Events. “We’ve dedicated efforts to curate a fantastic music lineup while ensuring affordability for all attendees, with Deacon Blue tickets starting at just £45.”

The event has become a beloved staple for families on the event calendar, increasingly selected as their inaugural live music outing with young children, accompanied by a variety of excellent food vendors.

Tickets for Trentham Live 2024 – Deacon Blue show are available on General Sale from Monday 11 th March @ 10.00am from – www.trentham.co.uk / trentham-live and www.ticketmaster.co.uk

Tickets will be on pre-sale for Trentham members starting from 10:00 am on Friday, March 8th.

Trentham Gardens, beautifully restored and centrally located within the estate, ranked as the fifth most visited paid attraction in the 2021 Visit England survey.

“Trentham holds a rich historical legacy and stands as a renowned local landmark. It serves as a vital sanctuary for the community, fostering reflection and inspiration.”

Trentham captivates visitors from various places, joyfully embracing families spanning generations – grandparents, parents, children, loved ones, and friends gather to discover the scenery, observe wildlife, draw inspiration from the gardens, and partake in a variety of activities and events available.

Since 2003, the 725-acre estate once owned by the Dukes of Sutherland for more than four centuries has undergone a significant rejuvenation project.

Trentham Gardens, renowned for its Italianate Gardens designed by Charles Barry in the 1830s and meticulously restored by leading landscape designers, offers the UK’s inaugural ‘barefoot’ walk. Visitors can enjoy a delightful children’s play area, maze, and a scenic stroll around the mile-long lake fashioned by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century. Additionally, Trentham houses the Trentham Garden Centre and an extended Shopping Village—a diverse collection of shops and dining options, complemented by a 119-bedroom Premier Inn Hotel.

Trentham is a haven for conservation and biodiversity, highlighted by the Monkey Forest where guests can stroll among 140 free-roaming Barbary macaques within their natural woodland habitat. The area features vast woodlands officially recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), offering grazing spaces for rare breed herds and wild black fallow deer. Additionally, Trentham has recently reintroduced Eurasian Beavers and endangered water voles to enhance its environmental diversity.
