Jungle Cruise at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom: Everything You Need to Know

There are few rides as iconic to Disney World as the Jungle Cruise. 

The riverboat adventure has been delighting guests since Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida first opened up its gates back in the 1970s!

Since then, the ride has only improved– and despite having one of the longest wait times in the Magic Kingdom, guests of the park continue to visit this ride on every trip. That’s thanks both to nostalgia, and the fact that no two rides are ever the same. 

Now, with the release of a major motion picture inspired by the ride, new and regular visitors will be flocking to visit! 

Before heading out to Magic Kingdom and hopping aboard, here’s everything you need to know.

Jungle Cruise is one of the original Magic Kingdom attractions, running since its opening in Disney World in 1971. 

The real OG Jungle Cruise opened at Disneyland in the 1950s, and versions of the ride exist in all Disney theme parks worldwide. 

The ride was originally inspired by a series of 1950s movies, including ‘The African Queen’ and the ‘True Life Adventures series.

Bill Evans was tasked with creating a jungle within the park on a budget. To achieve this, he used a mix of tropical plants and plants that appeared to be tropical (but were actually local) . 

He even used the trick of planting orange trees upside down, making the roots look like vines!

Marc David later made significant contributions to the design in later versions, including many of the scenes, present today. 

The ride’s early renditions were more of an experience at first, like visiting a zoo or a botanic garden. However, over time the ride has developed into a funny, lighthearted attraction, and as a result, has increased in popularity. 

A comedic script was added, the scenes became more humorous, and the guides were encouraged to have fun with the guests. You’ll now find them cracking jokes with guests, showing their personalities, and ad-libbing along the way!

Audio effects have been improved and modernized, the animatronics updated, new scenes added, and the jungle has grown and expanded throughout the years. 

In 2010, the jungle became a self-sustaining ecosystem, after 45 years of careful care and growth. The ride has also removed elements that were offensive to native cultures.

The Jungle Cruise story was expanded in 2015 with the opening of the Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant, Jungle Skipper Canteen. 

This introduced Dr. Albert Falls as the founder of Jungle Cruise in 1911. He then handed it over to his granddaughter Alberta Falls in the 1930s, where the story of the ride takes place. 

The ride is full of audio-animatronic characters– mostly jungle animals– such as ones found on an African safari. There are waterfalls, a temple to pass inside, and many other scenes along the way! 

All of the scenes can be experienced from within your boat, making you feel as if you’re an explorer from the thirties. 

The ride is suitable for all ages and very accessible to those with disabilities. It’s a smooth, slow ride, but there’s never a dull moment thanks to the story unfolding around you and your skipper’s commentary.

‘Jungle Cruise’ is the latest in a long line of movies inspired by rides at Disney theme parks, the most notable being Pirates of the Caribbean. The 2021 film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt and followed the general theme of the ride. 

The Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland. 

You can find it by going to the hub and taking the first left to Adventureland. After passing shops, restaurants, and the Swiss Family Treehouse, you’ll see the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. 

From there, look to your left and you should see the entrance to Jungle Cruise! 

Queue  

The queue has four areas that can be opened up, depending on the size of the line. The average wait time for the ride is about an hour, one of the longest at the park. 

It can get pretty hot waiting in the queue on a summer’s day, so beware if you have anyone in your party that may struggle with this. Don’t forget your water bottle, sunscreen, and hat!

As you wait in line to enter the line, it’ll feel like you’re in a colonial outpost. You’ll pass artifacts, photos, and tools from the theme and period of the ride to get you in the right headspace. 

Your boat will pull up with your guide at the helm when it’s your turn. There are 15 boats in rotation, each with its memorable name (like Wamba Wanda ). 

Jungle Cruise FastPass+

FastPass+ was discontinued and replaced with Disney Genie in 2021. 

However, due to public outcry, it was announced in 2022 that FastPass would be coming back to the parks. At this point, it doesn’t appear to have been reinstated just yet.

Currently, you can use the Disney Genie service to get you through the queues faster with Lightning Lane entrances. However, Genie+ can no longer be pre-purchased– though you can still purchase through the app when you visit the park.

The ride has a long wooden bench on each side of the boat, so guests face each other and sit side by side. 

The bench doesn’t have a back, so if you lean back you’ll find yourself against the slightly curved side of the boat. 

Plexiglass dividers are placed between sections of the bench, allowing four or five people to fit within a section. If you have small children, you may be able to squeeze a couple more in. 

Once you step onto the boat, the skipper will welcome you and you’ll set sail down the river. 

You’ll encounter giant butterflies, Inspiration Falls, a beach shop called “Boats, Baits, and Bites”, an African rock python, and a Gorilla-raided camp– all before you head down the Nile River. 

In this new area, you’ll find African Elephants along with many other animals. You’ll pass a zebra watching a lion eat a member of its pack, and a group of lost safari goers hanging from a long pole, avoiding a black Rhino. 

After passing gaters, waterfalls, and a plane crash, the boat is threatened by angry hippos. Thankfully, the skipper will frighten them off. After seeing chimps raid a ship, it’s off to the next area! 

There, you’ll find yourself sailing into a temple damaged by an earthquake. Exotic animals like peacocks and a Bengal Tiger await! The ride will end just as you narrowly avoid being sprayed by a group of Indian Elephants. 

While the ride is quite cruisy, the fun of Jungle Cruise lies with the skipper. There is a script, but most skippers will bring their own flare to the show– keeping guests laughing and the energy high. 

The ride duration is about nine minutes long. 

Jungle Skipper Canteen

After experiencing the ride, consider continuing the adventure by stopping at Jungle Skipper Canteen. 

Here you can have a meal inspired by African, Latin, or Asian cuisine. Try Skipper Dan’s Dan Dan Noodles, “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork, or Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight. 

There’s an extensive kids’ menu with menu items such as Junior Skip’s Macaroni & Cheese, or Chef Tandaji’s Crispy Chicken. 

You’ll also find an extensive allergy-free menu here (as is the case throughout much of the Magic Kingdom), with allergy-free choices on apps, kids’ meals, entrees, and desserts. 

Feeling a little parched? Choose from the selection of fun tropical cocktails, as well as their large selection of beer and wine!

Two of the boats, Bomokandi Bertha and Wamba Wanda, have wheelchair-accessible lifts. Most wheelchairs, including motorized and some ECVs, can be accommodated by these boats. 

Guests in wheelchairs can choose to board the boat without their chair if able, leaving the chair at the dock. Alternatively, they can wait until one of the accessible boats arrives.

There are days when a sign language interpreter and Disney’s Handheld Devices are available. 

These feature Assistive Listening, which will amplify the sound through either headphones or an induction loop. Handheld Captioning is also available on these devices, displaying on-screen text.

Disney’s Handheld Devices are available for a fully-refundable $25 daily deposit at Guest Relations. Devices are on a first-come, first-served basis, and they recommend that you bring your own headphones or an induction loop for use.

All guests should take care as they step down onto the boat from the dock, as it can bob and lean slightly while boarding. The skipper or ride assistant can offer a hand if needed.

There are periods of darkness, and it’s possible to get damp from the mist near the waterfalls. 

There is an instance of gunfire sound effects, but guests can request that it’s not played if this will trouble someone at the party. 

Guests must remain seated at all times, including small children. The boat will bob some, and sea sickness is possible, but it is generally a pretty smooth ride. 

There is no age or height restriction. Babies and toddlers can ride on their parent’s laps or in strollers. 

Children under the age of 7 will need to be accompanied by someone at least 14 years of age.  

Jungle Cruise closes during inclement weather, as most of the attraction takes place outdoors. 

How long is the Jungle Cruise ride at Magic Kingdom?

The entire ride lasts for just over nine minutes. 

How long does the Jungle Cruise line take?

The average wait time is about one hour. It’s a good idea to get to this ride as soon as the gates open to avoid a long queue. 

During very hot days, the line can get uncomfortable and is best avoided if you are sensitive to this. 

What do you do on the Jungle Cruise?

Guests ride along on a river boat with a skipper at the helm and explore various locations. You’ll see plenty of animals up to no good, and people in plenty of trouble! 

The whole experience is fun and comical and suitable for the whole family. 

Is Jungle Cruise a good ride at Disney?

This ride is a classic, and it’s only been made better over the years. It’s great for children and toddlers, as there are no age or height restrictions. 

It’s a slow and steady ride, so its movement is not frightening. However, some young or sensitive children could be startled in the dark temple with snakes present, or by the gunshot sound effect. 

When is the best time to ride Jungle Cruise?

Surprisingly, Jungle Cruise is a great ride at night! You can still see everything, and it looks even more realistic. Some riders report that the skippers tend to have more fun during sundown.

Christmas is another fun time to ride Jungle Cruise– or “ Jingle Cruise” , as it’s called– as it gets a makeover for the season and a snowman attraction is added. 

The script even gets a rewrite, so it’s quite a different experience if you’ve already seen the original version!

Who is Jungle Cruise for?

Jungle Cruise is a blast for children but is also enjoyed by the young-at-heart. Some adults may find themselves rolling their eyes at their skipper’s cheesy lines, but it’s all part of the charm. 

The Jungle Cruise is a delightful ride for the ages of 1 to 100. 

Disney has created a fully immersive experience where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. 

They have taken careful measures to create a living jungle, keep the ride up-to-date, make it appealing to all– and have even hired slapstick skippers to keep you laughing! 

Whether it’s your first or hundredth time on Jungle Cruise, it’s always worth a visit.

How to Ride Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise has a Standby Line and Lightning Lane. There is no  Single Rider Line .

The Standby Line for Jungle Cruise is typically the lowest first thing in the morning and at the end of the evening. The middle of the day will see the longest lines with sustained wait times of over 60 minutes.

Jungle Cruise is not available during Early Theme Park Entry or Extended Evening Hours . So, if this ride is a priority for you, planning accordingly is a must.

D o I need to use Genie+ at Jungle Cruise?

Jungle Cruise is available with Genie+  and we highly recommend using it at this attraction.

Aside from Peter Pan’s Flight , the Jungle Cruise is the second most booked ride on Genie+ at the Magic Kingdom. It’s a highly-popular ride that many park guests make a must-do during their park day. Unless you hop on this ride first thing, you should plan to reserve a Genie+ time for later in the day.

Rider Switch/Child Swap

Jungle Cruise is for all ages and heights. Therefore, Rider Switch , the system that allows guests with small children to take turns riding bigger rides, while another person/people wait with the little one, is not offered for Jungle Cruise.

What to Expect When You Ride

The Jungle Cruise queue is completely outdoors, with most of the line covered from the sun. While the ride doesn’t have an interactive queue like many other attractions, there are plenty of sights and sounds to enjoy.

You will find the queue decorated with prior passenger cruise logs and journals to read over. Also as you get closer to the loading station you can watch the tour boats pulling into and leaving the loading dock.

The music in the queue is also fun, including listening to what the announcer has to say.

Ride Vehicles

The ride vehicles for Jungle Cruise are small river boats. There is seating around the entire interior of the boat for guests to sit. Each boat can accompany approximately 30 guests.

There is a small 6 inch gap you must step over and down into the boat. Most guests are able to board with little to no help. There is a pole to grab on to help stabilize your boarding process in addition to Cast Members who will assist guests as needed.

You will ride in the tour boat with other groups, but your party will always be seated together next to — or at least near to one another.

There are no safety restraints, seat belts or life vests. You simply sit down and ride around inside the boat.

Accessibility Information

Guests may remain in their wheelchair/ECV while on the Jungle Cruise. A select number of boats are wheelchair accessible and have space for a single wheelchair. This includes manual, power, or ECV.

The majority of wheelchair sizes have no problem fitting on the boats. There is a separate wheelchair accessible entrance where your party can wait to board their boat.

You’ll want to speak with a Cast Member at the attraction entrance (at the top of the path that leads to the attraction) for details and directions.

Sign language interpretation and assistive listening are also offered on the Jungle Cruise ride on certain days. To obtain a schedule listing exact days and times, visit Guest Relations in the park.

Motion Sickness

Jungle Cruise’s boats are slow-moving and don’t have any fast turns, so motion sickness seems very unlikely. That said, you are riding in a boat on the water. Feel free to check out our guide on motion sickness  that’s filled with additional information and tips.

On The Ride

Ride spoilers ahead!

Prepare to sail away on an adventure of a lifetime as your cruise boat arrives into the loading dock. After some brief safety guidelines and a clear to go, your Skipper starts the tour sailing your cruise boat away from the dock and into the jungle.

Your first cruise stop in the jungle will be the Amazon rainforest where it rains 365 days a year. Here you will see beautiful butterflies with an impressive wingspan and the rushing waters of Inspiration Falls.

Next the tour will embark to the depths of Africa on the Congo River. You will pass by your Skippers pet python snake and a camp being broken down by Gorillas.

Cruising over to Egypt your Skipper will take you to the infamous Nile River which spans about 4,000 miles. Capture photos of the African bull elephants among the boulders. Long neck cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and lions are seen resting amongst one another. A rhinoceros is seen trying to make his point, chasing a group of explorers up a pole.

Watch out for danger as you enter crocodile country. Sail past the impressive Schweitzer falls which is named after the famous Dr. Albert Falls.

You will enter a hippo pool which will require some expert navigation from your Skipper as you see another tour cruise boat that did not fare so well going through them. A family of chimpanzees is seen taking over another tour cruise boat.

Next up is what everyone came to see, the 8th wonder of the world — the backside of water!

Prepare for dark encounters as your cruise boat enters the Mekong River in the heart of Cambodia. Your Skipper will take you through an Asian jungle shrine where you will pass a 500 pound tiger, several cobra snakes, giant spiders, shiny gold artifacts, and Buddha statues.

As you exit the tunnel you will find yourself in the middle of an Indian elephant bathing pool. Feel free to take as many pictures as you like. Beware — these elephants have been known to spray the boat, so watch out!

There’s no visit to the jungle complete without a stop to see Trader Sam’s gift shop.

As your tour boat approaches the dock again wait on your Skipper to give the word to gather all your belongings and disembark.

Trust us when we say to fully experience this ride, you need to try it yourself because the Skippers add a whole new level to each attraction scene. Their puns and jokes are the point of the cruise.

Is Jungle Cruise Kid-Friendly?

Overall, Jungle Cruise is very kid-friendly, as all ages and heights are permitted to board and ride.

However, keep in mind some of the animals on the cruise are very realistic and may scare little ones. There is also a short scene in which the boat rides through a very dark, almost pitch-black cave with several animatronic snakes and tigers that could be scary for children.

Anyone riding with kids may want to tell them the animals aren’t real prior to riding.

Kids are also required to remain seated completely during the entire tour. There is no exchanging of kids from one parent to another while the ride is in motion. Due to the nature of this ride being open and on the water, the Skippers are very strict about this.

Strollers are not permitted on the Jungle Cruise boats. They can be left in the designated area near the attraction entrance or with a non-rider.

Jungle Cruise was one of the original attractions ready in 1971 on Magic Kingdom’s opening day. It was also an opening day attraction at Disneyland Park in California back in 1955.

Ironically, before becoming known for its laughs and silly jokes, the attraction as a whole was initially more of a serious tone with only a few jokes inserted here and there.

The original script for Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise was written by Winston Hibler and inspired by Disney’s True-Life Adventure African Lion film. This gave the ride its more serious and educational tone, but that all changed in the ’60s when Imagineer Marc Davis took over and turned the ride into what many know and love today.

During the holidays, Jungle Cruise receives a holiday overlay and becomes the “Jingle Cruise.” The ride format stays basically the same with the addition of fun holiday-themed jokes and pretty seasonal decorations.

Believe it or not, but the holiday Jingle Cruise actually hasn’t been around that long — only since 2013!

In January 2021, Disney announced that some much-needed changes were coming to the Jungle Cruise on both coasts. Those updates are now complete.

Some of the enhancements included incorporating an animatronic skipper, new characters (like Alberta Falls), adding new jokes (don’t worry, many of the classics remain), and freshening up the story by adding chimpanzees, new explorers being chased up the pole, and making the Skippers more of a focus.

Here was the concept art for these updates that were previously shared by Disney:

Most importantly, the outdated depictions and problematic scenes have been removed .

As Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Portfolio Executive Chris Beatty told D23, “This is not a re-envisioning of the entire attraction. It’s the Jungle Cruise you know and love, with the skippers still leading the way, and at the same time, we’re addressing the negative depictions of ‘natives.'”

This also means the removal of Trader Sam from the final scene of the ride. But he isn’t totally gone; Trader Sam is still part of the attraction in a unique way.

The final scene features a Lost & Found Gift Shop with a sign indicating that it is managed by Trader Sam (in place of the Trader Sam animatronic). As stated by Disney, “But, while he’s out lost and finding some new inventory, it’s the animals that get the last laugh!”

Other Fun Details

• Rumor has it that when you enter the hippo pool, you’ll see the back half of a plane on the right, and, apparently, the front half was used in the Casablanca scene in the now-permanently closed Great Movie Ride.
• The Jungle Cruise is not based on a movie, but it did inspire one. The new live-action Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt was released on July 30, 2021 giving nod to this classic attraction.
• Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen is a nearby Table Service restaurant themed after the Jungle Cruise. It has a unique menu, serves alcohol, and is just as fun as the attraction. Reservations are recommended.

Jungle Cruise is an outdoor group boat ride through some of the world’s best-known simulated tropical waterways. You’ll pass through forest and jungle populated entirely by animatronic animals.

Jungle Cruise was the park’s signature ride when it opened at Disneyland. With the advent of modern, highly themed, real zoo environments such as Animal Kingdom, the Magic Kingdom’s version would surely have faded into obscurity were it not for one thing: The skippers tell jokes. OK, jokes is a stretch—the skippers do the cheesiest, most groan-inducing stand-up you’ve ever heard. If you dig that sort of thing, it’s glorious.

The best Jungle Cruise experience we’ve ever had began with all the passengers agreeing beforehand to laugh enthusiastically at whatever jokes we heard. It took about two puns for the skipper to catch on and play along. The ride ended with us chanting the skipper’s name during thunderous applause, to which the skipper said, “Is this what unconditional love feels like? Take that, Mom and Dad!”

Sail along the Amazon, the Congo, the Mekong and the Nile in this fun-filled journey through the world’s wildest jungles!

Your adventure starts as you pass through a seemingly deserted jungle outpost-apparently the long forgotten starting point for many excursions. It is here that you board your tour boat, complete with a knowledgable, courageous (and very funny) guide.

As you leisurely make your way through the dense jungle, you’ll see lots of animals, natives, and a few hapless adventurers. Your trek eventually takes you to an abandoned, mysterious temple, where tigers, cobras, and long lost treasures await.

Once you leave the temple, you’ll encounter some “friendly” natives, and pretty soon you’ll return to the jungle outpost and civilization!

Magical Moments

• The jokes! They’re corny all right, and if you have an enthusiastic tour guide they can make the ride extra magical. If you’re not shy you can participate too (or just sit back and enjoy while other guests are singled out for fun).
• The temple portion of the journey is vastly different experience from the rest of the ride. Jokes and friendly jungle animals give way to exotic ruins, mysterious creatures and dark passageways. Be sure to keep a look out for the tiger’s eyes.
• Tour the Jungle Cruise at night for a totally different experience. The jungle is much more mysterious, and you’ll truly feel like you’re taking a journey to a far off place. Of course, the temple becomes that much spookier when it’s dark outside (even more so if you have a light drizzle going!).

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

• In the Cambodian Temple, there is a spider to the right of the treasure with three yellow circles on its back.
• When you exit the temple, look on the left wall. There you will see a “chip” in the wall that’s actually a profile of Mickey!
• When entering the temple, you may sometimes see three gold platters on the right side under the snakes forming a Hidden Mickey.
• On the animal cage in the queue area, look for a tag bearing the name of Wathel Rogers. He was a key designer of the mechanisms that bring the Jungle Cruise animals to life.
• As you approach the Jungle Cruise, check out the planter boxes that contain the large trees. You’ll see that they’re tagged “Evans Exotic Plant Exporters”, a tribute to landscape designer Bill Evans.
• The queuing area is filled with visual jokes and puns. Look for the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd., Employee of the Month board near the boarding area. One of the names is E. L. O’Fevre. (Say the name a few times fast to discover one thing you don’t want to find on your cruise!)

Did You Know...?

• Walt Disney had originally wanted real animals in the Jungle Cruise attraction, but quickly realized that they might often be asleep or hiding away where guests wouldn’t be able to see them.
• The lush jungle foliage was designed by landscape architect Bill Evans, who carefully selected a variety of plants that would be hardy enough to withstand the Florida climate (most importantly its relatively cool winters), while maintaining the look and feel of a tropical equatorial jungle.
• Rumor has it that Disney is filming a Jungle Cruise film in the tradition of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion and The Tower of Terror movies.
• There are 16 boats in all, each named for an Imagineer that worked on the original attraction:Amazon Annie Bomokandi Bertha Congo Connie Ganges Gertie Irrawaddy Irma Kwango Kate Mongala Millie Nile Nelly Orinoco Ida Rutshuru Ruby Sankuru Sadie Senegal Sal Ucyali Lolly Volta Val Wamba Wanda Zambesi Zelda
• Here are some of the jokes you might hear on your journey:”Here in the rain forest it sometimes rains 365 days per year…some years it even rains every day.””And look at all the elephants out here today! If you want to take pictures go ahead—all the elephants have their trunks on.””Over there is Schweitzer Falls, named after the famous Dr. Albert [pause] Falls.””There’s old Trader Sam, head salesman of the area. Business has been shrinking lately, so this week only, Sam’s offering a two-for-one special: two of his, for one of yours!”Groan…!

Touring Tips

• This is a FastPass+ attraction. If the wait time is more than 20 minutes (which is common since the line move slowly to load the boats), you’ll want to take advantage of FastPass+. The Pirates of the Caribbean and the Swiss Family Treehouse are great places to pass the time while you’re waiting for your FastPass time to arrive, they usually have shorter lines.
• The jokes may be corny, but your guide is really fun to listen to!
• The boats can be awkward to enter. If you have trouble a Cast Member will be glad to assist you. Be sure to listen to their instructions as you board, they are there not only to help you but to ensure that everyone gets a seat.
• It doesn’t matter which side of the boat you sit on, there are wonderful views on either side.
• The queue area is full of funny props and corny puns too, be sure to look around while you’re waiting (and even as you’re exiting).

Jungle Cruise Ride at Magic Kingdom (Everything You Need to Know)

Jungle Cruise is a classic attraction at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World. This fun-loving cruise sets off through the Amazon Jungle, where you’ll behold the magic of audio-animatronic animals.

Below, we’ll ride through the attraction and share our adventures. In addition, we’ll provide details for experiencing Magic Kingdom’s version of Jungle Cruise and a few tips for the best time to ride. Keep your eyes peeled because you might spot some new characters along the way!

Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom

Jungle Cruise was an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom and an original Disneyland attraction inspired by Walt Disney.

Initially, Walt Disney wanted to add live animals to the attraction. Unfortunately, adding live animals wasn’t possible at that time. However, that dream eventually came to fruition several decades later on the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom .

Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise sits toward the back of Adventureland. It’s on the left side of the land, immediately past Swiss Family Treehouse . Jungle Cruise has a standby entrance and an individual Lightning Lane queue. This attraction often has long lines that build fairly early in the day. So it’s not the worst use of a Lightning Lane.

As the sign indicates, you’ll board a jungle boat to travel exotic rivers of the world, guided by a witty and experienced Skipper.

The queue for Jungle Cruise is relatively long and consists of two waiting areas, so it’s difficult to gauge the wait from the outside.

Here is the other portion of the queue you cannot see from the start of the line. When I took photos for this update, the wait time was 60 minutes. Many guests were walking away when they saw the posted wait. So I decided to try it and see. Surprisingly, this portion of the queue was empty, and I waited less than 10 minutes.

What I didn’t mention was that I got in line for Jungle Cruise around the time the Festival of Fantasy Parade had passed through Frontierland. Adventureland is partially blocked off when the parade begins, so fewer guests can enter the land. This causes waits at all of the Adventureland attractions to drop significantly. So, the best time to get in line for Jungle Cruise is immediately during or after the parade.

Jungle Cruise has several fun elements in the queue, like these life preservers with the boat’s name printed on them. Each boat has a fun name, like Bomokandi Bertha, Kwango Kate, Amazon Annie, Ucyali Lolly, Congo Connie, Garland Gertie, Molopo Marie, and more.

Each boat has a decent capacity, which helps the line to move continuously. Cast members load up to 20 guests per boat.

Your adventure starts on the Amazon River in South America. However, you’ll soon find yourself sailing down the Nile River and through a temple that comes out on the Mekong River in Asia!

As Disney puts it, “It’s a 10-minute, 10,000-mile journey that you won’t soon forget.”

As you set sail, you’ll notice that things have gone awry, including your Skipper’s jokes. Each boat comes equipped with a Jungle Skipper escort whose sole purpose is to share terrible jokes throughout the journey.

Seriously, don’t fall for that whole “in denial” or “in da Nile River joke.”

A group of gorillas has taken over a campsite. Did I mention you visit the Congo too?

An angry matriarch elephant is waiting to stampede.

You’ll see more audio-animatronic animals, including wildebeests and giraffes.

Here’s something you would never see on the safari at Animal Kingdom–a lion feeding her cubs. But you might see something like this on an authentic safari in Africa. Wouldn’t that be something?

Make sure to stay in the boat because you don’t want to end up at the bottom of a totem pole or, in this case, even on the pole.

After leaving this area, you’ll see waterfalls ahead.

Watch out for the crocodiles.

Soon you’ve reached one of the seven wonders of the world–the backside of water! It’s a big deal on the Jungle Cruise.

When Jungle Cruise was last refurbished, this plane from the Casablanca scene in the former Great Movie Ride was added. You can expect a few jokes to crash land in this area.

Your skipper might also mention that a few hungry hippos are looking for dinner below you.

This shipwrecked boat is an example of what can happen.

It’s been taken over by primates.

At this point, you’ll enter a dark temple.

Unfortunately, it’s so dark I didn’t get any photos. But you’ll see a few snakes and tigers before you exit.

A fun surprise awaits when you exit the temple. A parade of elephants is bathing nearby.

Per the Skipper, they are all wearing trunks.

You can’t help but smile as they enjoy their bath. All the while wondering…

Is that one going to pop its trunk and douse you with water? Possibly, but don’t worry, it’s just a splash. They are only animatronics, so no elephant snot is involved.

Finally, we’ve reached the end, where a new scene replaced the former Trader Sam.

Trader Sam’s gift shop and photo opp is available. Those animals will do anything to make an extra buck or two! About this time, you’ll reach the dock, and you’re Skipper will ever-so-politely ask you to–Get Out!

As if we had not already discussed enough fun facts about the Jungle Cruise, one more thing comes to mind. Each year, between mid-November and the first of January, the Jungle Cruise transitions to the Jingle Cruise for Christmas.

This holiday overlay provides a festive touch. Cast members decorate the attraction for the holidays, and the jokes get even worse! So, of course, you’ll want to plan to experience this unique version during your visit.

Additionally, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt star in the 2021 movie T he Jungle Cruise, which was based on the Jungle Cruise attraction and the Society of Explorers.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Jungle Cruise is an endearing attraction that offers plenty of nostalgia. While the jokes are pretty bad, that’s part of the fun.

W ant to know more about the best rides at Magic Kingdom for adults? Though we love bringing the family along, a Disney trip is every bit as much fun when it’s adults only! Don’t tell the kids, but these are some for our favorite attractions to ride when we leave them with Grandma and Grandpa!

If you’ve never taken an adults only trip to Disney, you’ve been missing out. While there’s no doubt that Walt Disney World is a magical place for children, it’s just as much fun for the grownups.

I love all the Disney parks but the Magic Kingdom just happens to be the perfect place for a romantic getaway with that someone special! I mean, it’s all about the fairy tale, right?

It’s also a really great destination for a girl’s trip!

Not only is it a completely different experience when you leave the kids behind, it’s a whole lot easier too. You don’t have to think about the height requirements for rides , pushing strollers though busy crowds or mid-day meltdowns.

The only difference is that you may not want to ride all the of the same rides. For example, I probably won’t be riding Dumbo if I don’t have anyone with me who’s under the age of 10. I’m just sayin’

However, one of the best things about Magic Kingdom is that there ARE so many awesome rides for adults. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a roller coaster fanatic or prefer more relaxing rides where you can just sit back and enjoy the experience.

The Best Rides At Magic Kingdom For Adults

Space mountain.

Location: Tomorrowland

Space Mountain is the perfect Disney coaster for those who love thrill rides. With an outer space theme, this classic ride has been a favorite since 1975, and with good reason.

Housed in a giant dome and complete with space-themed music, this ride through outer space is full of exciting twists, turns, and sudden drops from start to finish. To add to the excitement, all of this happens in the dark, so you never know exactly what’s coming next!

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Roller Coaster

Location: Fantasyland

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is perfect for those who aren’t hard-core thrill seekers but still want a fun roller coaster experience. This family-friendly roller coaster is based on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie, featuring all your favorite characters, songs, and scenes from the movie.

Even the line is entertaining, with fun interactive experiences as you wait. Create fun patterns with gemstones (or see who can come up with the seven dwarfs names the fastest!).

The cars on this indoor-outdoor roller coaster simulates the experience of being in a mine cart, complete with tipping and swaying from side to side as it races along the track.

This is one of the top rides in the park so you can expect a pretty long wait. I recommend getting to the park early and hitting this one first thing.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Location: Frontierland

An abandoned mine shaft is the setting for the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad . It’s easy to see why this classic roller coaster has been Magic Kingdom favorite for more than 40 years.

Like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, this coaster runs both indoors and outdoors. You’ll take a wild and twisty ride through a Wild West ghost town as you explore a cursed mine shaft and zoom through the surrounding canyons.

It’s also another great place for a photo opp. If you have the Disney PhotoPass, look for a Disney photographer near the exit.

Splash Mountain

When you need cool off from the Florida heat, you’ll want to head to Splash Mountain . This fun log flume ride takes riders through a southern bayou with a host of animal characters including Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox…for now.

However, Disney has announced that they’ll soon be re-theming this attraction with an all new Princess And The Frog theme. This is pretty exciting if you love the Disney princesses as much as we do!

This water ride starts out calm and serene, slowly building to a thrilling steep drop near the end. Be warned that you will probably get wet on this ride no matter where you sit. However, if you choose a seat in the back, your chances of getting completely soaked are slightly less. I’m not making any promises though, so it never hurts to bring along a disposable poncho !

Haunted Mansion

Location: Liberty Square

No theme park would be complete with a spooky haunted house. Disney’s Haunted Mansion is one of the best – and most famous – in the world. Located in Liberty Square, a Ghost Host guides you through this creepy haunted estate complete with a seance room, a ghostly graveyard, and other scary surprises.

Those who are brave enough to enter will travel through this dark ride in special cars known as ‘Doom Buggies,’. Be warned though…phantom hitchhikers have been known to tag along on the tour.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Location: Adventureland

Pirates of the Caribbean is undoubtedly one of the most popular rides in the Magic Kingdom. The lines can be a little long but we think this ride is worth the wait.

Riders enter a Spanish fort to board their boats, then set sail for a 17th century Caribbean adventure. There are plenty of pirate adventures along the way and if you keep your eyes peeled, you may even see Captain Jack Sparrow himself!

We never visit Disney without hitting up this attraction! It’s definitely one of our favorites, with or without the kids.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

If you have a competitive streak, you’ll love Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin . This attraction, part ride and part video game, is based on the popular Toy Story character.

This ride takes you on a cool space voyage, where you’ll board a star cruiser to help Buzz save the universe. Riders use joysticks to spin their cruiser 360 degrees, taking aim at an enemy robot army.

The fun of this ride is competing against each other to get the high score. I have yet to win against my hubby but I’m determined to take him down one of these days!

It’s A Small World

A classic Disney Ride and definitely one of the most famous, It’s a Small World is a must for Magic Kingdom visitors.

This musical boat tour takes you through all seven continents, with adorable dolls representing children from around the world. Just be warned, the ride’s iconic signature song will be stuck in your head long after the ride is over.

It’s a Small World is an experience that both young children and adults can enjoy. It’s always a fun one for me, whether I’m with the kids or not.

Jungle Cruise

Climb on board Disney’s Jungle Cruise attraction for low key riverboat tour through the lush forests and waterfalls of the Amazon and the African Congo.

What makes this ride so much fun is the Disney cast member that serves as your skipper and tour guide. As they point out sights along the way, their commentary is peppered with some of the corniest jokes you’ve ever heard.

But the jokes are so bad, they’re good, and I dare you not to crack a smile. It’s seriously the best part of the ride!

While the silliness is my favorite part, you’ll also spot all kinds of animatronic jungle animals on the tour. Look for hippos, monkeys, elephants and more!

Tomorrowland PeopleMover

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is an elevated tram ride that gives visitors a relaxing ten-minute tour of Tomorrowland. This narrated tour takes riders behind the scenes of several popular rides, including Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

Whether you’re a first time Magic Kingdom visitor or a regular, you should give the Tomorrowland People Mover a try if you’ve never experienced it. It’s a great way to rest your feet and chill while getting a unique view of some of the park’s attractions from a different perspective.

TRON Lightcycle Run (Coming Soon)

Currently under construction, this exciting roller coaster is based on the popular sci-fi films. Riders hop aboard individual lightcycles (similar to motorcycles) and reach speeds of close to 60 miles per hour.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the lightcycles at a Disney event awhile back. I have a feeling that riding one of these along a roller coaster track is going to be pretty dang cool!

It’ll be the fastest of any Disney coaster and I for one can’t wait to ride it! No word yet on when it’ll be ready but rumor has it they’re doing test runs now. I’ll be sure to keep you updated!

Tips And Tricks

While these rides are perfect for adults, they are also some of the most popular in the park. They usually have long lines but if you download the Disney app, you can check wait times to determine the best time to ride. I haven’t tried the Disney Genie+ yet but that’s another option.

My favorite Disney property of all time is Animal Kingdom Lodge , though we were so on-the-go for that trip that I never had time to take pictures for a post. It’s not cheap but it’s definitely worth the splurge if you can swing it!

Walt Disney World truly is a magical place for visitors of all ages and these rides are a great way to experience the magic for yourself. So next time, drop the kids off with the grandparents and have your own grown up Disney adventure instead.

Disney World is only a few hours away from white sandy beaches, fresh sea breezes, and crashing waves. But you don’t have to leave Disney World to find good seafood.

Columbia Harbour House

Even though it’s not New England, you can still find delicious seafood throughout the Florida parks. In each park and in Disney Springs, you can grab tasty fish, shrimp, lobster, and more. You might think that the best seafood would come from the table-service locations that offer it, but trust us when we say that one counter-service (aka fast food) restaurant in Magic Kingdom is definitely worth the visit!

Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom embodies the spirit of the New England coast. If you’re looking for some delicious seafood without paying a table-service bill, look no further than this counter-service restaurant.

You’ll find delicious offerings here that won’t break the budget! The lobster rolls are fantastic, and you’ll feel stuffed after enjoying one of their platters. The platter is a delicious combination of fish, shrimp, chicken, fries, and hush puppies. Seriously, we can’t talk about the hush puppies enough. How did Disney make them so good?

You’ll also find other items on the menu like salmon, shrimp skewers, New England shrimp boil, and chicken strips (for less adventurous eaters). For a quick bite to eat, the Columbia Harbour House is a great choice, if you’re looking for some good seafood.

Of course, we can’t forget about the Boston Cream Pie that is offered here, too!

As delicious as Columbia Harbour House is, there are other great seafood restaurants all over Disney World. We’ve composed a short list of some of our favorites, so you can find some tasty fish or shrimp at any of the parks or Disney Springs!

Other Great Seafood Locations in Disney World

Skipper Canteen

Also in Magic Kingdom, but over in Adventureland, Skipper Canteen is a great table-service option whether you’re looking for seafood or not. Your meal is served by skippers who have the same sense of humor as the ones taking you on boat tours around the world at the Jungle Cruise.

Here you can get the Sustainable Fish entrée that they promise is “Not Piranha.” It’s served over bok choy, lotus root, bell peppers, and shiitake mushrooms in a light ginger-lemon grass broth. The other options at Skipper Canteen are not seafood, but we’ve enjoyed the sustainable fish meal in the past!

Nomad Lounge

Nomad Lounge is in Animal Kingdom right next to Tiffins — the more expensive but delicious, table-service restaurant you’ll need advance dining reservations for. However, to eat at Nomad Lounge, you do not need advance dining reservations. You can simply walk up to see if there is seating available or join the waitlist.

You’ll find a delicious tuna poke bowl at this lounge! It comes with steamed rice, red cabbage kimchi, edamame, and a sesame-chili glaze. You can also ask if they’ll let you pick appetizers off the Tiffins menu at Nomad Lounge which would also give you more seafood options like lobster mac & cheese and charred octopus.

Yak & Yeti

Yak & Yeti is a table-service restaurant in Animal Kingdom that requires advance dining reservations. However, they are totally worth it. We have enjoyed our trips to this Asian-inspired restaurant, and frankly, the Bang Bang Calamari, Firecracker Shrimp, and Ahi Tuna Nachos are our favorite items on the menu.

A walk-up waitlist may be available at the table-service restaurant, however, Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes is a counter-service variation of the table-service restaurant. Here you can find some delicious Sweet-and-Sour Tempura Shrimp! You get a pile of shrimp that is really tasty.

Yorkshire County Shop

If you’re looking for an English staple, you cannot go wrong with the fish and chips at the Yorkshire County Shop at the England Pavilion in EPCOT . You can also get fish and chips at the Rose & Crown Dining Room , which is a table service location, but honestly, we’re convinced the fish and chips at the Yorkshire County Shop counter-service stand are better.

The fish is perfectly flaky, and you get a very large helping of it and the fries. One order of these would fill you if you’re really hungry or would make a great snack to share! It’s a must-get for us when we’re stopping by.

Rosie’s All-American Café

Not all seafood has to come straight from the ocean to be good, and the Plant-based Lobster Roll at Rosie’s All-American Café in Disney’s Hollywood Studios proves that. Whether you stick to a plant-based diet or not, we recommend trying this veggie-forward “lobster” roll sandwich.

This “lobster” roll doesn’t taste quite like lobster, but it is still delicious! It’s made with heart of palm, and marinated for 48 hours. On top is celery, sweet apples, and creamy dressing, served with homemade potato chips on the side. The dressing is vegan mayo, dill, lemon juice, and Nori seaweed. It’s a tasty salad on a fresh roll, and we really enjoy it!

The Boathouse

As you might expect from a restaurant named The Boathouse , you’ll find tons of fresh seafood here! From a raw bar to market fresh fish to lobster, you’ll find a wide variety of seafood here that most seafood lovers will enjoy. You will need a dining reservation to enjoy The Boathouse, but it’s certainly worth it.

There are lots of places all around Disney World that serve seafood. Many of the hotels also have their own restaurants with seafood options. These are some of our favorites, but it’s certainly not all of them.
