Purchased mines in 2021 brand new My daughter fell in love with it because she saw the 3rd row. She rode the 3rd row twice in 2 years. She said it’s too small and not comfortable. She loves the reclining back seats. I have found a few black pieces on the inside of the truck on the floor but don’t know where they detached from. The rear view camera is small and has worked my nerves. 98% of the time it’s upside down. Other than that I’ve enjoyed it

The other notable cuts are the absence of all-wheel drive and the optional V-6 engine that were paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The price of the 2020 Dodge Journey starts at $25,170 and goes up to $30,090 depending on the trim and options.

With the absence of the V-6 and all-wheel drive for 2020, the rental-fleet-inspired SE Value version is our pick from the Journey lineup. With minimal options to choose from and minimal value added from the Popular Equipment Group at this level, we'd skip everything and stick with the bare-bones Journey.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Journey SE and Crossroad trims come with an underpowered four-cylinder engine that's best avoided—except you can't, since the V-6 is no longer offered. The 172-hp engine is woefully underpowered and the four-speed automatic transmission that's reluctant to downshift further dulls its real-world performance.

There are not many three-row crossovers that are entertaining to drive, so their ride and handling are graded on a curve. Even so, the Journey's ponderous handling and unresponsive transmission leave it far from getting a good rating from us. It wallows in corners with lots of body roll and imprecise steering. The benefit of this softness, however, is a comfortable ride on the freeway.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The four-cylinder engine has the worst EPA ratings among competitors with similar powertrains, with 19 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway. By comparison, the 2019 Honda CR-V is rated at 26 city and 32 mpg on the highway, while the 2019 Toyota C-HR is rated at 27/31.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Journey's interior is far from upscale, but its simple controls are user-friendly. Getting anyone to fit in the third row—even children—requires those in the second row to compromise their legroom. Cheap-feeling bits such as a plasticky shifter and hollow-sounding interior door-trim panels are especially egregious on the priciest version. Several luxury features including a power-adjustable passenger seat, cooled seats, and heated rear seats are notable in their absence from the options list.

Practicality is one of the few areas where the Journey shines: its interior is easily configurable and it has tons of cubby storage for odds and ends, even if its total cargo capacity isn't as large as some competitors. You can fold down the 50/50-split third row and the 60/40-split second row to expand the available cargo space, although the Journey offers the least amount of total cargo space of the vehicles in this class. In addition to the expected compartments in and around the console, there's also a generously sized bin under the front-passenger seat cushion, as well as two large underfloor compartments in the second row.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Although every model features an easy-to-use touchscreen, the system has fewer features than many other Dodge products. Likewise, the larger screen is responsive, but we wish Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability were offered here. The arrival of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was definitely the biggest news from the FCA. However, it threw a shadow over the discontinuation of other SUVs from the lineup. You won’t find Journey at dealerships in 2021 and the company is not bringing it back next year. Well, the comeback is really questionable, especially having in mind how many Dodge vehicles we saw discontinued. The focus is on Ram and Jeep. Unfortunately, the 2023 Dodge Journey is probably not going to happen.

Why? The SUV was recently dropped because of slow sales. Plus, FCA is planning to increase the production of the most popular vehicles. By discontinuing the Journey, the company will save some manpower and capacities for Jeep Grand Cherokee , Durango , and Ram 1500. On the other hand, the spot is not going to be vacant. You can always cut one row from Durango or Grand Cherokee and get a mid-size SUV with extra space.

The 2023 Dodge Journey is unlikely to happen and the company is turning to new projects. Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are already announced, and more electric and hybrid vehicles will be produced in the foreseeable future. Journey without a comeback, like many other Dodge vehicles, such as Dakota, Barracuda, and another recent cut – Grand Caravan MPV.

2024 dodge journey preview: what to expect.

For a long time, the Journey moniker was associated with a  mid-size three-row SUV, which was in production for more than a decade. That’s not the case anymore, as this SUV was discontinued in 2020 . These are different times and the current Journey is neither a three-row SUV nor offered in North America. Instead, the company decided to use the familiar moniker for a completely different model, in a different market. That model has been around for a couple of years and the 2024 Dodge Journey will actually represent the third production year. So far, the model has been sold in Mexico but it looks like the company plans to expand its offer to the whole of Latin America. On the other hand, there are no reports about the new Journey coming to North America.

In any case, the overall design won’t change, no matter the market. This will remain an SUV that’s heavily based on the Chinese model caller Trumpchi GS5. More precisely, this is pretty much a re-badged version of that SUV, with the same design characteristics and minor differences at the front.

As mentioned, the 2024 Dodge Journey might come to other markets but we still don’t expect to see it before the last quarter of the year.

2024 Dodge Journey Design

With all the things being said in the previous paragraphs, we could say that we know what to expect from the next year’s 2024 Dodge Journey. We are about to see a familiar design, which doesn’t have anything in common with the previous generation. Instead, this is just a re-badged version of the aforementioned Trumpchi GS5.

The tight connection between the two models reflects in all aspects, starting from the mechanics. Things are pretty much identical in this aspect, and that also refers to the chassis and suspension setup. That’s definitely a strong point of this SUV, considering that a multi-link rear suspension is part of the standard equipment and the main reason why this SUV offers a balanced ride, with good portions of both athleticism and comfort.

In terms of aesthetics, things are also very similar. The overall shape and styling are the same, while the key difference is at the front, where the 2024 Dodge Journey is about to continue with a little bit different front fascia. Also, we won’t exclude the possibility to see a couple of minor updates for the next year, such as new color options, for example.

The similarities or, better say “samelarities” are on the inside as well. With the exception of Dodge’s badge on the steering wheel, it’s really hard to find more notably distinctive details. Still, that shouldn’t be taken as a drawback. Simply, Chinese cars are not what they used to be. There are way competitive these days, with designs that can make every competitor run for its money.

So, what you can find on the inside is solid build quality, with very nice materials and a lot of attention to detail. Moreover, the dashboard looks very modern and attractive, with aesthetics that work great in a combination with modern tech features. speaking of the tech features, a 7-inch infotainment screen is part of the standard equipment, while a massive 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is available in more expensive variants.

Unlike the previous three-row model, this is a compact crossover, with significantly less space and just two rows of seats. Still, both rows are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are also quite supportive, while the driving position is good.

2024 Dodge Journey Engines

We expect that the 2024 Dodge Journey will continue with a single powertrain option on offer. That would be a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of around 169 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. These numbers won’t blow your mind but there is actually plenty enough power for decent driving dynamics. Moreover, the engine feels pretty smooth and works great in a combination with a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin.

Fuel Economy

This is quite an efficient powertrain that, in a combination with the vehicle’s compact size and lightweight, offers pretty good fuel efficiency. Thanks to selectable drive modes and a start/stop system, you can achieve a pretty impressive 33 miles per gallon.
