The full Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is finally coming to streaming — with 4 bonus surprise songs

"Cardigan" and four songs from the acoustic set will be included in the "Taylor's Version" cut of the movie, which is heading to Disney+.

eras tour tv

It's Swiftmas in February!

Just days after announcing her 11th studio album , The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has unveiled the long-awaited streaming plans for her blockbuster Eras Tour concert film .

Disney+ announced Wednesday that it will be the exclusive streaming home of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , a cut of the film that will present the concert in its entirety for the first time. The new version of the movie, which also includes the song "Cardigan" and four additional acoustic songs, will make its streaming debut March 15. Swift shared the news on social media shortly after Disney's announcement.

The Eras Tour film, directed by Sam Wrench, grossed more than $260 million at the global box office, making it the top selling concert film of all time.

Buda Mendes/TAS23/Getty Images

In making the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+."

The film debuted in theaters Oct. 13, and noticeably excluded five songs from the Eras Tour set list as it was performed in Los Angeles in August, when the film was shot: "No Body No Crime," "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer," "Cardigan" and "Long Live." When it later headed to VOD rentals on Swift's birthday on Dec. 13, a new version of the film featured the performances of "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer" and "Long Live" tacked on at the end, but not the other two songs.

Given that this new Taylor's Version of the film is being touted as being shown "in its entirety for the first time," it stands to reason that all the missing tracks will finally take their rightful place in the film, in addition to four additional acoustic songs. But since "No Body No Crime" is not explicitly mentioned and "Cardigan" is, it would appear "NBNC"will likely be the only song to not make the cut, presumably since it was a performance with Haim unique to only a small handful of Eras Tour dates, and the concert film is more inclusive of the tour as a whole.

As for the four new acoustic performances in the film, on each of the three nights the concert was filmed in L.A., Swift performed two different surprise songs during the acoustic set, meaning there were six different possibilities for the film in that section of the show. In the original theatrical and and VOD rental versions, only "You're On Your Own, Kid" and "Our Song" made the cut. That means that the remaining acoustic performances of "I Can See You," "Maroon," "You Are in Love," and "Death by a Thousand Cuts" will likely be in the film somewhere.

Taylor Swift is one of the biggest names in the music industry. Her 2022 album Midnights marked the tenth entry into her impressive discography and kickstarted the beginning of her Eras tour in March 2023. While on tour across the United States and Mexico, the 12-time Grammy winner pleasantly surprised fans on August 31 with an announcement of the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie. Tickets went on sale (and immediately sold out) that same day.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is clearly the hottest event of this fall season. Here is everything you need to know about it movie before heading to the theater.

What to know about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (concert movie)

The Eras tour takes audiences on a captivating musical journey spanning all of Taylor Swift’s unique "eras", paying homage to each of her albums. These albums are 2006's Taylor Swift, Fearless in 2008, 2010's Speak Now, Red in 2012, 1989 in 2014, 2017's Reputation, Lover in 2019, 2020's Folkmore and Evermore, and Midnights in 2022. You can expect to witness her perform some of the most celebrated songs within her catalogue including "Love Story", "Blank Space", and "Anti-Hero."

The movie offers audiences the opportunity to experience the wildly anticipated concert they might not have had the chance to see in person. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie filmed the initial trio of performances at SoFi Stadium in early August. As shown in the concert movie, this huge Los Angeles venue drew an astounding crowd of nearly half a million fans.

As the official concert movie for her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift wants fans to have an authentic concert experience when watching the movie in theaters. When she initially announced it on X, Taylor suggested  that fans should dress up in their best Eras attire, wear friendship bracelets and participate in singing and dancing, just like they would at a live show: "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon.  Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at http:// taylor.lnk.to/TSTheErasTourF ilm … . Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged. 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

Where can I watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

If you are in the united states:.

AMC theaters have entered into an exclusive agreement with Swift, allowing only their locations in the United States to screen The Eras Tour movie starting October 13. Canadian theaters will screen the movie as well.

Within minutes of theater tickets for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour being released, the AMC app crashed with fans attempting to buy advance tickets for the movie. This marks the second instance this year where Swifties caused a major website to malfunction, with the first being during the sale for the actual Eras Tour itself. AMC is currently promoting exciting additions for your cinematic experience including Eras Tour-themed popcorn buckets for $14.99+tax and drink cups for $11.99+tax. Exclusive cardigans have, unfortunately, still not been announced.

If you are outside of the United States:

On Tuesday 26th September, 2023, tickets for the official Eras tour concert movie were announced in over 100 countries around the world. Taylor Swift made the announcement on Instagram, sharing that the film will be in theaters in those countries from October 13, 2023.

"The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide…….. 🌎 Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theaters WORLDWIDE on Oct 13! Tickets available now at www.TSTheErasTourFilm.com or on your local theaters website!"

Tickets were available immediately after the Instagram post went live. AMC have struck a deal with sub-distribution partners for more than 7,500 movie theatres in order to show the film in theaters around the world. Across Europe, the concert movie will be playing at Odeon theaters. Odeon also announced a special pricing for the event:

"In a nod to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and her favourite number, 13, tickets in the UK and Ireland will be priced at £19.89 / €19.89 for adults and £13.13 / €13.13 for children."

Will The Eras Tour be on Netflix?

Despite the concert movie's cinematic release on October 13, there has been no announcement about where to stream Taylor Swift: The Era Tour online. Until further notice, the movie is available exclusively in theaters. However, given the record-breaking demand for tickets, it is very likely fans will be able to watch The Eras Tour on streaming services after its theatrical run ends.

You can choose to get notified by JustWatch when a streaming release date is announced by heading to Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour and hitting the notification bell.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

While an Eras Tour concert typically lasts over three hours on average, the official length of the concert movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes. This makes it much longer than previous Taylor Swift concert movies, such as Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is 2 hours and 5 mins.

Who is the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?

Grammy-nominated Sam Wrench is the director of the upcoming concert movie. He earned the coveted nomination for directing Billie Eilish Live At The O2 in 2023. Wrench is best known for his ability in capturing the electrifying essence of a live music event, having also worked on  Lizzo: Live in Concert and BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage - LA . He boasts an impressive resume filled with projects from some of the biggest names in the industry including Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

What records did Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour break?

Taylor Swift just keeps adding to her impressive list of record-breaking achievements. The Eras Tour movie shattered the record for the most money made from advance ticket sales in a single day at AMC Theaters, raking in a whopping $26 million. This surpasses the previous record-holder, 2021's  Spider-Man: No Way Home , by $10 million. Fans achieved this record-breaking feat in just three hours, beating  Avengers: Endgame 's record for the most tickets sold within the first 24 hours.

The Eras Tour movie is expected to have an incredible opening weekend, with a projected range of $100-125 million. The top five movies for the year's opening weekends include Barbie , The Super Mario Bros. Movie , Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . These range between between $162 million to $106 million, which means the upcoming concert movie has the potential to have one of the best opening weekends of 2023.

Furthermore, the sudden announcement of the movie's release date caused other titles to change their release dates. The Exorcist: Believer , originally slated for the same day, will now premiere a week earlier. Producer Jason Blum playfully tweeted, "Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”

What are the other Taylor Swift concert movies?

For those who simply cannot calm down before the release of the movie, there have been a number of projects featuring exclusive access to Swift’s concerts that are available to watch right now. These include The 1989 World Tour Live, which was released on Apple Music in 2015, and 2018’s Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is available to stream on Netflix. There were also DVD releases of Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless in 2010 and Speak Now World Tour – Live the following year.

Swifties alike must ultimately tolerate this Cruel wait with their Gorgeous Style they know Belongs to them. On the Bejeweled side, there are only a few weeks left before they are united by the greatest Love Story on the big screen: Taylor Swift with her Swifties. They are undeniably Ready For It.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be released in theaters on October 13, 2023.

  • Trivia Taylor Swift had the idea for a concert movie in 2022, but no major film distributors showed any interest. Feedback on social media indicated a lot of interest from fans who had never seen her live. Swift decided to distribute the film through her own company at her own expense. The film was a massive box office success worldwide, and her gamble paid off relatively quickly.
  • Goofs Taylor's hair position changes between shots throughout the whole film. Over shoulder in one shot, behind shoulder in the next jump-cut shot, for example. But like any concert film cut together from multiple performances, this is inevitable.
  • Crazy credits Credits feature video clips of fans from before the shows & outtakes of things that went wrong on stage throughout the tour, all set to "Long Live (Taylor's Version)".
  • Alternate versions The Extended Version includes three songs from the tour not shown in theaters: "Long Live", "The Archer", and "Wildest Dreams."

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Is a 3-Hour Career-Spanning Victory Lap

By Waiss Aramesh

Waiss Aramesh

How do we measure the impact of a musician in 2023? Streams can be bought. Awards can be finessed. Is it when demand for show tickets leads to a congressional hearing about Ticketmaster’s policies? Or when flight attendants shout out a fanbase making a pilgrimage to see a tour opener? Or when TikToks of merch inspirations and setlist predictions rack up millions of views? Nearly a decade ago, a headline ran declaring ‘ Taylor Swift Is The Music Industry’ and those with even the slightest pulse on pop culture can tell she’s only grown more omnipresent since. It all led to a warm evening in Glendale, Arizona where months after delivering her most commercially-successful album to date, Midnights , Swift debuted a discography-spanning setlist that lasted over three hours and kicked off an aptly-named stadium run. The Eras Tour has arrived.

After night had fallen and GAYLE and Paramore revved the crowd up with a mix of recent chart-toppers (GAYLE’s “abcdefu”) and cultural anthems (Paramore’s “Misery Business”), it was time for the main event. At 7:57pm, a timer appeared on a massive screen prompting screams from all corners of State Farm Stadium. Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” played as fans braced themselves for the arrival of Swift. When the timer hit 0:00, the house we’d seen in the “Lover” music video assembled on the screen, indicating that this evening was first and foremost about reviving the feelings each era evoked.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

It’s easy to compare one of Swift’s stadium shows to something you’d see on Broadway — never has that been more true than for The Eras Tour . The setlist is cut up into acts, grouped together by eras for each of Swift’s ten studio albums. For each era/act, Swift went full-send into that album’s look, feel, costume, color blocking, and more.

Many eras got a few songs. At one moment, it seemed like Swift’s soft spot for Folklore would mean we’d hear the entire album. On the opposite end, Speak Now ’s part of the show was short but impactful. Swift played only one song from her third studio album, “Enchanted,” while wearing a stunning floor-length ballroom gown designed by Nicole + Derr. Hopping from act to act, Swift made it extremely clear when she’s taking the audience out of one era and into another. This isn’t a hastily put together setlist with a vague thread of connective tissue — Swift is taking her audience on a nostalgic extravaganza.

How St. Vincent Unlocked Her Realest Album Yet

Is taylor swift teasing 'tortured poets department' additions to the eras tour, the old taylor swift is dead — this time for real.

For “The Man,” Swift completed her Versace look with a blazer and made sure everyone could see the red bottoms when she kicked her feet up on a conference room table as she delivered the masterfully written and scathing assessment of gender inequality in pop culture. Swift closed out the Lover era act with “You Need to Calm Down” and “The Archer,” the latter getting a beautifully stripped down rendition so Swift’s vocals echoed across the stadium: “Because all of my enemies started out friends / Help me hold onto you.”

At one point, as Swift ran through hits from her Fearless era, she flashed a smile and announced to the crowd that she was taking us back to high school with her. The nostalgia seeped into the show, resulting in some of the loudest crowd participation yet, especially from those old enough to have grown up with Swift and were in high school at the same time she was. The singer ran through “Fearless,” “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story,” reminding us of a time when we discovered the pop phenomenon unbeknownst to the level of celebrity she’d achieve.

Something about Swift — she’s online. If the fact that she decided to end last night with the TikTok-friendly “Karma” doesn’t make that obvious enough, her joke about disliking Evermore hammers home the point.

Later on in the act reserved for her ninth studio album, in line with how theatrical the event was, Swift set up a beautiful dinner setting only to deliver a heart-wrenching rendition of “Tolerate It.” She also performed “Tis the Damn Season,” “Willow,” “Marjorie,” and “Champagne Problems,” giving fans a sizable taste of the Evermore live experience they weren’t able to receive when the project came out in 2020.

For the acts dedicated to Reputation and Red , fans were treated to a masterclass in visuals and hitmaking, two key elements that has assured Swift prolonged success for as long as she’s had it. The powerful, striking, snake motifs were an awesome callback for fans who attended the Reputation tour.

For Red , Swift went through “22,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble. She closed out the act with a beautiful performance of the 10-minute “Taylor’s Version” of “All Too Well.” In the evening’s most ethereal moment, small white confetti made to look like snow blanketed the State Farm Stadium as she neared the end of her magnum opus, singing “Because in this city’s barren cold/I still remember the first fall of snow/And how it glistened how it fell/I remember it all too well.” Not only is Swift a savant for world-building, but she’s perfected the ability to translate those worlds into the live experience.

Swift wasn’t shy about making sure people got the full Folklore live experience. A makeshift cabin, not unlike the one made during Swift’s 2021 Grammys performance, sat on the stage with Swift perched on it during “Invisible String.” The star also discussed how she finally got comfortable crafting narratives for purely fictional characters, rather than ripping them from the headlines about her life.

1989’s era act turned the party up and restored the energy, with Swift donning a Roberto Cavalli top and skirt and going through “Style,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.”

To cap off the evening, Swift returned to Midnights , performing album highlights “Lavender Haze,” “Mastermind,” and more. It was hard to ignore the immense gratitude the singer continued to exude throughout the evening, with the “thank yous” coming more and more often the closer she got to the end.

Eventually, the singer asked the crowd if they had time for one more and launched into her finale, “Karma,” a track with a passionate chorus that’s begging to be scream-sung in a room of over 70,000 who’ve been waiting for this exact moment for years. Maybe it’s fitting that an artist who’s had more than her fair share of ups and downs, and at times has been the most polarizing musician alive, ends her stadium tour opener with a song about how she can finally protect her peace. Karma’s a relaxing thought, indeed.

The Eras Tour Hits Different on TV — What the Taylor Swift Concert Loses (and Gains) on Disney+

Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour  makes its streaming debut on Disney+ Thursday, and, at first, it won’t quite measure up to the stadium experience.

In May 2023, my five closest friends and I attended Swift’s show at MetLife Stadium — and it wasn’t just a concert. For a group of single twenty-something women, it was, in many ways, our wedding, our bachelorette party and maybe even our own funeral! What I mean is, it was a ritualistic occasion — a holy sacrament.

We took several high-speed and low-speed trains to get there — “there” being a New Jersey football arena that had metamorphosed into a mecca of girlhood. Despite MetLife Stadium being packed with thousands and thousands of individual fans, we all vaguely resembled the same person and our particulars washed away, for better or for worse. That night, we were Swifties.

When Swift finally emerged from the dramatic water-colored fans and took the stage, our brain chemistries were altered — whether by the sheer force of the vibration in the stands or the simple coming of Mother remains unclear.

Despite our position in $140 seats in the fourth-to-last row, we could feel her power and her control over the crowd. She commanded the massive stage and surrounding stadium, even while playing the notably low-key acoustic surprise songs (which were, that night, the glorious “False God” and the dubious “Holy Ground”).

But on Thursday, Disney+ subscribers will face the same hard truth as I did when I rented the concert movie on Prime Video in December: Swift’s magic was not what I thought. I felt duped! Where in concert she was huge, on TV she is small. Where on tour she spoke to hundreds of thousands, on screen she’s just talking to little old me. In all honesty, though it pains me as a Swiftie to admit, I found myself cringing at the pop icon’s just average ability to move about the stage.

In case you haven’t heard of the totally made-up art of hand-dancing, it’s the most common form of artistic expression among rhythmically averse young girls — it sometimes even follows us into young adulthood at school dances, weddings and holiday soirées. It’s the flip of the hair in “Shake It Off,” it’s the hand-on-the-wheel motion in “You Belong With Me,” it’s the tossing of the car keys in “All Too Well” and the finger phone in “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”

Even when Swift’s actions aren’t obviously interpretative, her upper limbs are always grooving, like in “Illicit Affairs,” when she flips her flowy, chiffon sleeves in the wind like her hands are ribbon-dancing machines. And before I knew it, I was singing along and slamming my own hands onto my coffee table, demanding some man of my yesteryear to quit calling me kid, stop calling me baby. And my red palms and stretched vocal cords were proof: I was captivated.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie screenshot

Swift’s moves are comprised of the kind of gestures that, for most girls, aren’t typically performed outside of the gaze of our mascara-stained mirrors. And this is no flaw — nor an accident. Swift’s stratospheric power is fueled by these pantomimes of girlhood because they express a certain girlish, interior grandiosity that, under Swift’s direction, can miraculously birth football-stadium sovereignty and on-screen intimacy.

In person, these performances work because Swift feels otherworldly when surrounded by a swarm of ritualistic fans egging each other on and gassing each other up. On TV, with no one else is around, the knee-jerk response to the Eras Tour is embarrassment. She’s a little too much like us and we can’t help but think, Girl, stop playing with your hair! Quit crying over that boy! Get over it, already! But Swift’s relentless hand-dancing and straightforward lyrics ultimately invite us into a more intimate mode of introspection — something that can’t be done amid the pomp and circumstance of an in-person concert. On screen, her performances conjure images of real heartbreak and real vulnerability, and for a few hours, we get to feel cathartically small — we don’t need to arm ourselves with lipstick, glitter and cupcake-shaped dresses to prove our interior lives are worth something.

It becomes validating to watch the biggest pop star of all time prance around an enormous stage, in front of a gigantic crowd, to the beat of the loudest rhythms using the most rudimentary expressions of adolescence to actually entertain . She’s actually doing the thing we all pretended to do after school when no one was home, singing into a hairbrush or the handle of a Swiffer WetJet, lamenting about all the ways we’ve been wronged by boys and our various arch nemeses — and it’s celebrated. It’s not pathetic, or secret, or embarrassing.

Totally agree. She’s overrated!

You’re so off point here. Who.even published this nonsense.

My SO and I watched this on a Tuesday night in a theater. It will never live up to the electric atmosphere of a live venue when more people than the population of my hometown are collectively psyched, but in a crowd of twenty-five in a theater meant for maybe ten times that, the four friends just marking out as if they were at the stadium were the highlight of the evening, and I mean that in the best way.

We never got to see her in concert, but had great fun seeing this in the theater where everyone was up on their feet, singing and dancing along.

Now my daughter is having a bunch of friends over this weekend to watch it on a 60 inch TV. I’m sure it won’t be quite the same, but I have no doubt that there will be singing and dancing in the living room.

Agreed. I was grateful for the chance to see this in the theater and it honestly was the last push I needed to unapologetically embrace how much I enjoy her music and how she performs it live.

You are not a Swiftie. A Swiftie would never write anything like this. I attend the Eras Tour twice and I rented the movie in December. Watching the movie should take one back to their experience and relive every awesome moment!!!

You mean the author is not a Swiftie because Swifties only say positive things and would not dare to be critical of a single thing TS does? OK, got it. Just wanted to be sure.

Anything–be it a concert, a ball game, a play or even an epic movie–will lose considerable impact at home. Fun test: Next time someone tells you they didn’t like “Oppenheimer,” ask them where they saw it. I can guarantee that at least 90% of the time the answer will be Peacock or the Blu-Ray.

BTW, hand-dancing goes at least as far back as the Nicholas Brothers, and is a staple in other cultures (e.g., the Hula). Swift isn’t doing anything new here.

I guess I’m that 10%, I honestly did not enjoy Oppenheimer when I watched it in the theater. Well, I did like the first half.

So you’re straddling the line. :-)

We gave Oppenheimer an hour of our time but just couldn’t watch it anymore. I doubt we would’ve liked it any better in a theater.

I would say I’m 95% out of the door with this website and this may have pushed me a little further…

Why? Is it because someone has a different opinion than your own? People can have differing honest opinions about all issues. Those differing opinions shouldn’t be triggering anyone. Things don’t get better if people don’t talk. Things don’t get better if people can’t have honest discussions without being offended.

The world was a much better place before anti-bullying campaigns were taken to an extreme, and I say that as a person who was bullied all through my grade school/ high school years. It was horrible experience after horrible experience that went on for 12 years. The one thing it did do is give me a thicker skin so that I didn’t get triggered by comments from people with whom I disagree. It also helped me deal with difficult people and learn how to deescalate situations involving volatile people.

People growing up in a bubble where they don’t have to deal with difficult situations and differing opinions leads to nothing but intolerant adults who can’t deal with anyone who doesn’t have the same belief system as their own.

I have never understood the popularity of Swift. Anyone can be popular. Popularity and pure talent aren’t the same thing. Some people thing she is talented, I don’t have a problem with that.

At the concert, you can only see her through the screens, anyway, and you can only hear screaming fans. They could have a double lip-syncing. No one would know. At home, it does feel small and unimportant, though. I felt the in-cinema experience a happy medium. Other people sang and cheered, but did not overpower her. It was big and enveloping, and, yet, I could see her.

OMG watching that concert on TV was JUST LIKE BEING THERE

– said no one ever. It’s why we pay gobs of money for a live show and a couple bucks to stream. For the unduplicatable live experience.

Taylor Swift is the best dancer on the planet! – said no one ever

She’s a highly successful songwriter and singer who knows how BRILLIANTLY market herself. (those are compliments).

Perhaps on just not in the demo that would find an article like this on TVline interesting. Fair enough. :)

Dude stop, you’re killing me…. Every time I’m about to say really?!?, here you come with said no one ever. LMAO I needed this laugh thank you.

I find this to be so off. I went to this in the theater and I rented it when it came out, I didn’t find it cringy or embarrassing and not a single person I’ve spoken to (or experienced it with) have felt that either – several of whom went to the concert as well. Yes, the experience is different live and in person, but no one has expressed the opinion that watching it on a screen is ‘cringy’. In fact, If you were near the very last row in $140 seats, you likely watched a good portion of this concert on a screen as well.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone describe themselves as a ‘swiftie’ in one breath and in the next say that watching her perform on a screen made them want to tell her to ‘stop playing with your hair, quit crying over that boy’. What an inanely reductive way to look at something that brings a concert that, you were so lucky to have attended but, so many of us fell victim to the ticketmaster debacle and were unable to.

The first half of this article feels braggy in the fact that you were lucky enough to go – which is your right, you were lucky enough to go and I would have bragged about it too – and then condescending that “I went to this live and I just can’t enjoy it as much on a screen”. Check your priveledge here.

The statements of “girlhood practiced collectively is so big but at home alone is so small” is the silliest thing I’ve read, and so limiting and – again – so reductive in this. Girlhood is something that is practiced in all spheres, big and small.

This is a hard disagree on this one. It was not meant for a small screen and the viewers know this. To go on so harshly it seems like you were going a bit too far with your criticisms and making personal jabs. Audio will not be the same, the music will not hit the same way. I am a 25-year experienced musician who was trained classically, and you cannot compare the two. Acoustics are accounted for in each venue, multiple tests are run, and I doubt they were considering when mixing the audio how it could adapt to each individual make and model of television screens that would be used to stream this concert at the highest quality.

This is the most stupid review I’ve ever read…

She’s the biggest pop star of this generation for sure. Of all time? No way.

And of course seeing a show live is 1 million times better than seeing it on TV.

She sings for 3 hours and you are complaining she is only hand dancing? You have seen her music video, you would have know she never pretends to be a good dancer. Did you even see the video for Shake it off where she made fun of herself for her lack of dancing abilities? Being uncool is kinda her thing?! The whole performance is designed for stadium size of audience, so watching it on TV screen up close is always going to be a very different experience. You were lucky enough to see her life in concert and then rented a similar TV version on Prime and now complaining those who had missed out watching on Disney+? Your privilege is showing.

I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT SO MUCH. I WENT TO SEE THE CONCERT MOVIE IN SAULT STE MARIE ONTARIO CANADA AND OMG IT WAS SO AMAZING!!!😃😃😃😃😃😃LOVE YOU TAYLOR SWIFT!!!I WAS DANCING AND SCREAMING AT THE CONCERT MOVIE!!!😃😃😃

“The Biggest Pop Star of All Time?” I know MJ is dead, but you don’t have to lie.

I agree with the other comments you can’t possibly be a Swiftie. I say that because anybody can see the talent here and why just about everyone agree she’s the greatest performer of all time and the most talented! This movie got us to see her brilliant work..all of it. And yes it’s up close what’s wrong with that? We know we’re watching TV. Not everyone could get to the concert, but we can see and feel even through the TV the vibrations, the energy!! . I believe your article was too critical, trying to find something wrong with someone who has nothing but great intentions to connect with her audience. And we all think she does a phenomenal job on TV or in concert!!

Just about everyone agrees? No, they don’t. The title belongs to Michael Jackson. Very few heterosexual men and black people listen to Taylor Swift. There will never be another MJ, and that’s a hard core fact not an opinion.

Did you write TVLine’s infamous Galentine’s Day article?

Well, lucky yo, that you live in the States and got to see her. For the rest of us, who couldn’t and won’t be able to have the amazingly experience you described, heaving the opposite to watch her, do a party inviting people over for the experience, being able to see on repeat some of the songs, it’s all we got.

Please don’t talk down about us as a viewers and about the only chance to experience it.

And I do live in a first world country, think about the second or third ones… You are saying this from a very entitled position. And we don’t need that.

Yes….it is smaller in your own living room. This isn’t ground breaking information. The commentary on cringing at her moving around the stage is beyond bizarre. Most of us don’t feel this way AT ALL. We don’t watch Taylor and expect some kind of peak Britney spears vma performance. Also referring to holy ground as dubious….such a bizarre article overall.

Taylor’s great but her fans are truly scary sometimes. This is a 95% positive review that just happens to have a tiny bit of objectivity to it, and the pitchforks are out.

It goes without saying that the experience of watching it on even the best billionaire home theater can’t match that of being in the stadium… but that’s an unfair comparison. For those that weren’t able to see it in person, this is still an incredible show. Also, anyone commenting on dance can feel free to dance and sing for 3 and a half hours, with the same energy level in the first and last songs. We’ll wait.

This was a fantastic show. It’s not the same as in person – expecting that is silly. If you went to the show this is at best a great souvenir. But 99.999999% of the population didn’t go to the show.

This is less review and more, “I am very immature and even more vacuous. That is, my head is a vacuum — there’s nothing there.”

As someone who will most likely never see Taylor Swift at an actual concert, I waited patiently for the Era’s tour to come around to streaming (and yay it did). And its good, I can see what all the swiftie hype is about! It would be sooo much better to see her live, but I will take the streaming tour. Along with my hair brush, and one of my dogs to dance with, I will watch it as many times as I can. Yep she pretty much represents all of us “girls” and its awesome to see.

3 granddaughters, and 3 adult daughters and I loved it. Even my hubby liked it. Imma 57 and was a swiftie since her first song Tim Mcgraw. She is real and genuine. It was a very good show. We danced, we cried, we lived the crowd shots. The diversity in her dancers were great. She was fantastic. We weren’t expecting j lo or Beyonce dancing. She represented a lot of us who sway and move our arms around. She has a great voice, great music, self written lyrics. She is beautiful and talented and an inspiration to millions of people of all ages. As a concert goer of the 70, 80 and 90’s I didn’t expect it to be the same as an in person concert experience, as there is nothing like it. It was non the less awesome for us

Taylor Swift shares big video hint the ‘Eras Tour' may be changing

“taylor swift, you have some explaining to do” wrote one fan., by amy eley | today • published april 25, 2024 • updated on april 25, 2024 at 9:10 pm.

Taylor Swift is taking fans behind the scenes of her “Eras Tour” with a series of clips, and Swifties now suspect there’s a hint as to changes coming to the world-renowned show.

Days after releasing her newest album,  “The Tortured Poets Department,”  Swift posted another YouTube Short video with her hit single “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone,” playing over videos of her and her dancers rehearsing for the tour. But there’s one moment in the montage that has fans doing what they do best: speculating.

Fans will recognize many of the scenes being practiced, such as Swift's iconic entrance from the ground, her performance of "Lavender Haze" in a coat surrounded by clouds, playing "Champagne Problems" seated at a moss-covered piano and more. But one clip, in which Swift stands in the middle of a stage with her dancers lined up behind her wearing top hats and holding canes, did not appear in the original "Eras Tour."

“Since when do background dancers have a top hat and canes?!” one fan with the username armaisacat.1989  captioned a TikTok  of the scene, adding “Taylor Swift you have some explaining to do!!”

The “Eras Tour” is a three-hour, 15-minute concert in which Swift performs songs from all of her albums since her 2006 self-titled debut record. Many — including the TODAY.com staff — have speculated whether or not the pop star would integrate “Tortured Poets Department” as another era in the show.

All will be (hopefully) be revealed when the tour begins again in Paris on May 9.

Musicians Are in Their Eras Era

From Taylor Swift to Madonna to Missy Elliott, stars are increasingly blurring the lines between past and present.

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.

There was a time, not so long ago, when the term “era” brought to mind strictly academic concepts: a scale to measure the Earth’s geological time; a system for classifying sweeping events of human history; a theoretical timeline of our known universe.

a woman wearing a beaded headdress and bra

If this trend has a progenitor, it’s Taylor Swift : The musician’s career-spanning Eras Tour is reportedly the highest-grossing tour of all time. “Branding it as the Eras Tour and doing a greatest-hits run pulled in so many people, because you go to a show and it’s so clear how many fans came from the country years, and how some didn’t become Swifties until Reputation ,” says Elana Fishman, Page Six style editor and bona fide Swiftie. And Swift didn’t just revisit those eras musically; she also paid homage to the aesthetics of each album cycle, whether through a Reputation -era snake slithering across a Roberto Cavalli catsuit or a sequined matching set that called back to her 1989 persona.

a group of dancers on a stage

Of course, Swift didn’t invent the idea of tying fashion to different album cycles—that would be Madge, the Queen of Pop herself. Madonna committed to changing everything—from hairstyle to makeup to wardrobe—for each new record cycle, as if creating characters, in a way that few have achieved before or since. “Other artists have also had eras, but they may have had the same hair color throughout all of them. It doesn’t really count,” says creative director and stylist Shannon Stokes, who’s worked with Beyoncé , Rihanna , and SZA . “To me, those are great, and those can still be considered eras, but as a true textbook, you always have to go to Madonna.”

a woman in a headdress performing on a stage

For Stokes, creating and revisiting these visually disparate eras isn’t just useful in distinguishing album cycles, it also creates a fuller picture of the artists themselves. Fans feel more connected to a multifaceted musician. “When you’re doing everything properly, people get to see who you are in all different [areas] of your life: your sexual sides, your fun sides, your vulnerable sides, your introspective sides,” he explains. “It creates a stronger bond, because that fan base feels like they know you more, seeing all sides of your personality.”

a woman in a blue bikini sitting on a lawn chair

It’s notable that there are very few male artists playing with visual identity in quite the same way. While there are some, like Harry Styles or Lil Nas X, dabbling in tying fashion to album cycles, Paul McCartney isn’t exactly hauling out a Sgt. Pepper jacket on his tours. Maybe female stars feel more pressure to constantly reinvent themselves. Or maybe they’re embarking on a high-stakes version of what we all do when embarking on a makeover. Whether it’s a post-breakup closet cleanse or a big-ticket luxury purchase to celebrate a milestone, our clothes reflect who we are at different moments in time—and revisiting those pieces can be liberating, not to mention a fun way of remembering our former selves.

a woman wearing a silver hat, bodysuit and fringed boots on a stage

“We, as regular people, have had eras too,” Stokes says. “It’s an evolution, but you still can differentiate the time periods when you were living a certain way and therefore dressing a certain way and doing certain things.” While she may not have invented the wheel, Swift has discovered how to put her own spin on it, keeping fans engaged in the process. She’s taught followers to hunt for clues about upcoming album cycles in her clothes, fueling speculation that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) would be her next re-release with a pair of Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier boots—or announcing her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department , with a white Schiaparelli gown at the Grammys.

a woman wearing a sheer bodysuit performs in front of a projected target

“A few months before the album rollout really starts, she’ll solidify what her aesthetic is going to be for that era,” Fishman says. “It keeps people hooked, because they’re decoding these clues and zooming in on Getty Images of her paparazzi walks and saying, ‘Is that a snake on her ring, or is it just a vine twisting?’ It becomes a real game.”

And while reinvention may still be all the rage among younger artists, one thing is for sure: There’s no longer a reason to fear history repeating itself. This article appears in the May 2024 issue of ELLE.

Hayley Williams is ready to hit the road with longtime pal, Taylor Swift ! The Paramore  frontwoman gushed over Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department , while offering a tease of the band's upcoming Eras Tour run.

The 35-year-old musician took to her Instagram Story on Monday, after enjoying an electric Record Store Day over the weekend, to share a handful of her current favorite albums. Unsurprisingly, Swift's TTPD made the list.

"Had me from the storytelling alone, my friend," Williams wrote. "Every one of us knows this kind of grief! It's so impressive to me how specific and colorful Taylor's words get without ever losing the universal thread. I'm so ready to be tour-mates."

Also receiving honorable mentions from Williams were Beyoncé 's  Cowboy Carter , Brittany Howard's What Now , Rufus Wainwright's Want One , Bee Gees' Main Course , Tierra Whack's World Wide Whack , Radiohead's The Bends , The Smile's Wall of Eyes , Blonde Redhead's Sit Down for Dinner  and Idles' Tangk .

Paramore is set to open for Swift on her Eras Tour when it resumes on May 9 in Paris, France. The band will continue to tour with her through her remaining international tour dates, which includes a whopping eight shows at London's Wembley Stadium .

The dates come less than a year after Paramore's headlining This Is Why tour was derailed due to a lung infection for Williams. At the time, Williams shared with fans that she would be using her downtime to "dive head first into creating some better routines" and getting back into "the creative process."

"For me, when we get into this mode it always feels nice to disappear in a way," she admitted in a post on Discord . "Maybe this time I will be able to find balance between the disappearing and yet not completely shutting out the world. But probably not."

It was last summer that Swift, 34, announced that Williams' band would be joining her on the Eras Tour around the same time she dropped  Speak Now (Taylor's Version) . On the rerecorded full-length, Williams is featured on the from-the-vault track, "Castles Crumbling."

"Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour," Swift shared in July 2023. "And I get to travel the world doing shows with Paramore!! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???"

In  a recent interview  with  Jimmy Fallon on  The Tonight Show , Williams spilled details on how she and Swift first became friends back in 2008.

"Me and Taylor met because both of us -- Paramore and Taylor -- were nominated for Best New Artist the same year at the GRAMMYS," she said.

Though the late Amy Winehouse took the trophy that night, Williams and Swift ended up at the same after-party.

"We were at some GRAMMY party -- it was actually Timbaland's GRAMMY party. [It was] huge. I was very nervous," Williams recalled. "But a woman came up to me and she said, 'I'm Taylor Swift's mom and, you know, Taylor doesn't have a lot of friends her age that do music. And I would love to, like, you know, introduce you guys or get your number or whatever.'"

"So Andrea, the legend that she is, she connected us," Williams added, referencing Taylor's mom, Andrea Swift.

Swift's 11th studio album,  The Tortured Poets D epartment , and its lead single, " Fortnight " featuring  Post Malone , were released on Friday to much fanfare.

In terms of traditional album sales,  Billboard  reports that Swift's  TTPD  sold 1.4 million copies --  including CD, vinyl, cassette and digital download versions -- in its first day alone. This surpasses her own biggest sales week, when  1989 (Taylor's Version)  sold 1.359 million copies. All signs indicate that  TTPD  will be making a massive, record-shattering debut when tracking for its first week concludes on Thursday, April 25.

The 31-track collection --  which turned out to be a surprise double album  -- features a hefty helping of  heartbreak songs  following her splits from  Joe Alwyn  and  Matty Healy , as well as a few  sweet love songs  amid her current relationship with  Travis Kelce .

"She has put her heart and soul into the music, just like with everything she does," a source told ET about the album, "and can't wait for her fans to listen to it and to share it with them."

Is Taylor Swift Adding Tortured Poets Songs to the Eras Tour Set List in 2024?

W ith the new album The Tortured Poets Department now out, Taylor Swift fans are wondering if the pop star will be adding a few of its songs to the Eras Tour setlist for the rest of the 2024 concerts. Here's everything you need to know.

Are Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets songs being added to The Eras Tour?

Based on a YouTube short with a few clips of Swift's rehearsals, fans have picked up clues suggesting that she will be adding new songs from The Tortured Poets Department to her 2024 Eras Tour setlist.

On May 9, Taylor Swift will take the stage once again to begin the European leg of her Eras Tour. Her usual concerts last just over three hours with her performing around 45 songs on average. But with The Tortured Poets Department, she has 31 more songs to choose from.

Swift recently added the above video showing moments from her rehearsals. But breaking down the video, fans believe that she teased the addition of a few tracks from The Tortured Poets Department into her upcoming concerts.

TikTok user ‘ Nikkiking23 ' posted the following video presenting a few pieces of evidence suggesting the addition of The Tortured Poets Department songs to Taylor Swift's Paris concert and beyond:

While this isn't confirmed yet, Swift could surprise fans across her European, American, and Canadian tours.

However, since the concerts are already big shows, she could choose to condense a few old songs or even remove them to incorporate the new songs. If this happens, it would be interesting to see how fans react to a change to her setlist.

Will Taylor Swift sing ‘Fortnight' during The Eras Tour 2024 shows?

Fans believe that Taylor Swift hinted at singing Fortnight from The Tortured Poets Department album during The Eras Tour 2024 shows.

Swift hasn’t confirmed whether she will sing The Tortured Poets Department songs during her upcoming shows. However, it's likely for "Fortnight" to be one of the songs she picks, if she chooses to sing new ones.

Fortnight is the lead song of The Tortured Poets Department. Considering that the European tour starts in a fortnight and Swift's above video heavily teases the song “Fortnight,” it's likely that Swift will at least perform this new song in Paris on May 9, and perhaps beyond.
