A GUIDE TO SEA FISHING IN EXMOUTH?

Exmouth as a fishing spot.

Exmouth is a splendid fishing sanctuary sprawled along the south coast of Devon. With unrivalled access to both the Bristol Channel and the English Channel, Exmouth is an ideal spot for any angler seeking a fishing adventure . The Exe estuary entices fish species such as bass, flounder, mullet, wrasse and various flatfish aplenty. Casting out to open sea offers up conger eels, huss, pollack and bullhuss. Plus, when visiting Exmouth, take advantage of further possibilities like Sharkwatch boats that grant you exceptional prospects of porbeagle shark sightings off the Westcountry coastline.

It’s worth noting that Exmouth has various piers with public access for launching boats or casting rigs straight into the water unimpeded. Take care to appreciate the tides’ ebb and flow regularly; knowing this information beforehand will save you considerable stress on your trip! Make sure to bring gear suitable for beach-casting when targeting larger species in deeper waters.

A top tip would be to investigate when low tide approaches ; several lugworms can often be discovered on sandy beaches surrounding much of Exmouth’s coast that helps account for popular bait options used in local tourist shops. Be sure not to overdo things too quickly: As two anglers found out recently they reeled in an impressive 10ft shark after a five-hour fishing trip along with 30 mins wrestling time in their kayak!. Keep things realistic by trying different techniques until you find a winning combination and ensure you’re adhering to all rules before setting out on any adventure.

Whether it’s rain or shine, there’s no bad time to go fishing in Exmouth – just make sure you bring a towel for the inevitable soaking.

The best time to go sea fishing in Exmouth

Exmouth is a dream destination for sea fishing enthusiasts . The optimal time to indulge in this activity is when the water temperature hits 16-20 degrees Celsius, from late April through September . It’s essential to check weather updates and tidal patterns before heading out to maximize your catch.

To make the most of your Exmouth sea fishing, you must choose the right equipment, including rods, reels, rigs and baits . You can also opt for chartered boats with local guides , who have a knack for finding the best spots for different types of fish.

While Exmouth offers an abundance of species such as Cod, Pollock and Plaice all year round , locals fondly recall Midnight May Day celebrations where humongous bass weigh-ins take place.

A group of anglers once invited me to join them on their annual fishing trip in Exmouth. We set sail at dawn but caught nothing for several hours. Just as we were about to pack up and go home empty-handed, we hit upon a sizeable school of Bass following feeding Sprats – it was thrilling!

Pack your tackle box and leave your troubles behind, because Exmouth’s sea fishing scene is sure to blow your bait away!

Required equipment for sea fishing in Exmouth

When heading out for sea fishing in Exmouth, it’s essential to have the right equipment. Here are some necessary items to include:

  • Quality fishing rod and reel
  • Bait (live or artificial)
  • Tackle box with hooks, weights, and other accessories
  • Sunblock and protective clothing (hat, sunglasses, etc.)
  • Lifejacket or buoyancy aid for safety

In addition to these required items, it’s vital that you acquire local information on weather forecasts and tidal patterns. It will help you plan your trip accordingly.

If you’re new to sea fishing in Exmouth and require guidance, consider hiring an experienced local guide who knows the area well.

Once a client of mine went fishing without obtaining a detailed weather forecast. Despite having the correct equipment, he ended up in dangerous conditions with high tides and strong wind currents. Fortunately, he had his life jacket on and was eventually rescued by a passing boat. This story shows how important it is always to be cautious while planning a trip for sea fishing in Exmouth.

Exmouth is home to a variety of fish species, but let’s be real, we’re just here for the ones that make good Instagram pictures.

Popular fish species found in Exmouth

Did you know Exmouth is one of the best places for sea fishing? The coastal town provides a great selection of fish species for anglers to catch. Here are some of the popular ones found in Exmouth:

  • Bass – Known for its mild flavour and succulent flesh, it’s perfect for grilling or frying.
  • Mackerel – A strong-tasting fish that is a good source of vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids .

It’s worth noting that Exmouth also offers other seafood like crab, lobster and prawns . If you’re feeling lucky, there’s a chance you might hook one of these too.

Exmouth’s fishing industry has been around since the eighteenth century, with over 40 boats setting out each week. With hundreds of fishing spots and different techniques available to try, you’re bound to have an unforgettable experience.

Whether you’re trying to snag a bass or a bream, these fishing techniques will have you hook, line, and sinker in no time.

Fishing techniques for each fish species

If you’re an angler looking for the best fishing techniques to catch different species of fish in Exmouth, then this guide is for you. Below are some effective techniques you can use:

Best Fishing Techniques for Different Fish Species in Exmouth

Alongside these popular techniques, it’s important to consider factors such as weather conditions and location when planning your sea fishing trip in Exmouth. Keep in mind that certain fish species may be found at different times of year or during different tidal periods.

For instance, winter months tend to see cod and whiting feeding closer to shore while summer months can see shoals of bream and bass present around shallow reefs and rocky outcrops.

Exmouth has been a popular spot for sea anglers since the 19th century. The town is situated along the Jurassic Coastline which is home to various species of marine life including those mentioned above. With its picturesque scenery combined with an abundance of fish breeds, it’s no wonder anglers continue flocking to this coastline to test their fishing skills each year.

Overall, taking into account current weather patterns, seasonal trends and these recommended fishing techniques should lead any angler on their way towards catching their desired catch in Exmouth. Hook, line, and sinker – these Exmouth fishing tips are guaranteed to reel in the big ones.

Fishing tips and tricks for Exmouth

If you’re planning a sea fishing trip to Exmouth, there are a few tips and tricks you should keep in mind to make the most of your experience:

  • Check weather and tide charts to pick the best times.
  • Choose an appropriate rig and bait for your target fish.
  • Respect local fishing regulations and seasons.
  • Consider hiring a guide or joining a club for insider knowledge.
  • Practice good casting techniques and be patient.

Lastly, pack essentials like sunscreen, water and warm clothing.

Additionally, Exmouth boasts an impressive range of fish species including bass, bream, mackerel and pollock . However, keep in mind that certain species such as bass have strict size limits for conservation purposes. Always double-check regulations before keeping any catch.

One unique aspect of sea fishing in Exmouth is the opportunity to try your hand at wreck fishing . The coast is home to several shipwrecks which host their own populations of fish.

In terms of history, Exmouth has a long-standing tradition of fishing dating back centuries. Fishing was once the town’s primary industry with hundreds of boats operating from the harbour each day. Whilst commercial fishing has declined over time due to factors such as competition from foreign vessels and increasing regulation on certain species, recreational fishing remains popular among locals and tourists alike.

Keep on fishing in Exmouth, because there’s always a bigger fish in the sea, or so they say.

Exe Fishing, Exmouth, Devon

If you go out on the waters on a mackerel or reef fishing trip with Exe Fishing, what you’ll notice is the incredible ambience, how quiet and peaceful it is out at sea; a far cry from the hustle and bustle back on the seafront in Exmouth . So, bear it in mind, maybe book ahead for when you’re on your large group holidays in Devon . It’s for all ages and all abilities, so something the whole family can do together; if you don’t all want to fish, that’s fine, spectators are welcome too.

It’s a lovely thing to do, go out on a traditional wooden fishing boat and catch your supper. Rods and tackle are included in the price and the crew are so helpful. They’ll show you how to cast your line and reel in your catch, you can keep it all, and they’ll even gut it and prepare it ready for you to cook when you’re back on dry land. You might well get the chance to steer the boat if you ask nicely, and always in your sights will be the spectacular scenery; this is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the trips take in the calm waters of the River Exe as it meets the sea.

The boat, the Southern Angler sets sail from the seafront at Exmouth and from the marina. What you need to know is that mackerel fishing trips are 2 hours long and reef fishing 3 hours; also, there’s no cover on the boat and it tends to be a bit chiller out at sea so take a fleece or something. There are loos and refreshments onboard and dogs are allowed as long as you keep them under control on leads.

If there’s a big group of you, you might want to arrange a private charter for up to 40 people (25 fishing), a great idea for birthdays and other momentous occasions, or just because.

Fishing Trips and Charters

Welcome to tiger charters, tiger charters will be operating trips and charters in summer 2022, keep an eye on our website and facebook page for more information soon., please feel free to send an email to [email protected] to register your interest and we will come back to you when schedules are available..

We operate out of EXMOUTH, on the East Devon coast.  It's an easy place to get to, just 8 miles from junction 30 of the M5, making it accessible from places like Taunton, Bristol, Birmingham, even St Austell in Cornwall is only 90 minutes away. It's a popular tourist destination too, and we welcome tourists, day visitors and locals alike on our fishing trips.  Exmouth has 2 miles of sandy beaches, so its an excellent location for family holidays. It does, however, give us a sand bar to navigate around so prompt departure times are a necessity.  We ask our customers to be on time PLEASE.

We fish in Lyme Bay which stretches from Start Point near Dartmouth in the west to the Isle of Portland in the east.  It's a big area so we don't claim to fish all of the bay, just the spots that are accessible from Exmouth to give you some decent time for fishing.  Lyme Bay was used by marine traffic during World War 1 so there are many wrecks lying on the sea bed, unfortunate victims of war, and now home to our local sea life.

Our boat TIGER operates regularly between April and November - weather permitting.  We are fully insured, and coded by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency ( MCA ), who ensure that we carry all the safety equipment necessary for your safety at sea.

TIGER is a 10.5 meter (35 foot) Offshore 105 powered by an FPT 480hp engine.  She carries up to 10 passengers, so no overcrowding, and there is seating for everyone on deck.  In the wheelhouse you can find GPS, sonar, radar, radios, and the skipper, Paul.  TIGER also has a toilet, and carries hot water and even a microwave for extra comfort on longer journeys. We carry tea and coffee as standard, and sometimes soups. Please feel free to bring your own beverages and food.  Don't forget, with the microwave you can warm up pasties, pies, noodles, or any number of foods, so come prepared!

You can book onboard in two ways.  Either as an individual(s) on our TRIPS which are scheduled throughout the season.  Or you can book the whole boat as a CHARTER.  We carry 10 people max on either trip or charter.

TIGER regularly operates our core TRIPS -  6 hour Inshore Fishing and 8 hour Offshore Fishing.  During the (hopefully) warmer weather we will also be running some 10 hour trips.

Got a group?  With seating for all, TIGER is also suitable for CHARTERS.

If you fancy something a bit different, like a bit of fishing then lunch in Brixham, then simply phone us and we'll give you a quote.

Please note, though, that we cannot guarantee you catching fish at any time - that's why its called fishing and not catching!

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The Alexander Garden

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

Ostankino Television Tower

  • Television and radio tower in Moscow

There is even a restaurant at the top where you can enjoy rotating views of the city while you dine on traditional Russian cuisine or European cuisine!

The tower is somewhat of an architectural surprise in a city that is not known for skyscrapers! To see the city from a new perspective, make sure to add this stop to your Moscow itinerary!

Izmaylovo District

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .
