San Francisco Fishing Charter is excited to announce a very special addition to our fleet. Our new 56 foot charter boat takes fishing comfortably to a whole new level. Built in by Westport Shipyards in 1980 and completely refitted in 2022, she is annually inspected by the U. S. Coast Guard, and is certified to carry up to 49 passengers (non-fishing trips only). Her safety equipment and standards exceed all of the U.S.C.G requirements as well as being outfitted with the very latest navigation and fish finding electronics available. With a cruising speed of 16 knots, a spacious deck and a clean, heated cabin (with restroom), she is the ideal vessel for your custom San Francisco charter boat experience.

Our fishing charters are geared towards a fun, comfortable experience for anglers of all skills and ages. Our charters carry a maximum of 14 passengers, guaranteeing each guest the simple luxury of elbow room, inside and out, and the personal attention of the crew. Best Fishing Charter We’ve Ever Booked!

My family (wife, and three teenage children) visited San Francisco from Texas for Spring Break and high point of trip was our Charter with Brian and Jose, brothers, who own and operate SF fishing Charter. I always try to charter a fishing trip on all coastal vacations and this one was the best in terms of the guides and the boat that we’ve been on. My 11 year old was able to hook and bring in a large slot sturgeon and we also caught about 8 striped bass. There isn’t much I can say more positively about this operation that the other reviewers on trip advisor and YELP have already said, so I will simply add to the others and HIGHLY recommend these guys if you are looking for a SF Bay Fishing Trip!

San Francisco Bay Sport Fishing Charters For an Intimate, Hands- On, Instructional Fishing Experience

Captain Sean Treacy has fished many of the world’s oceans including the Atlantic Ocean, Irish Sea, Pacific Ocean, Sea of Cortez, Bearing Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of Alaska, and Hawaiian Islands.  Sean came to San Francisco and has been fishing the San Francisco Bay since 1998. Sean is very experienced  and knows how to catch fish, and is a great guide and captain.  He specializes in hands- on fishing charters with instruction for novice anglers and children, with heavy tackle and light tackle. Whatever is your choice - whether it is fishing at anchor for sturgeon or sharks, fishing the central bay rock piles for bass, or drifting the sandy flats for halibut, Captain Sean does it all aboard the 37’ by 13’ Andrea- K. There are several species of Shark to be caught in San Francisco Bay:  Leopard Sharks , Sevengill Sharks , and Soupfin Sharks , as well as Sand Sharks .  These Sharks can grow up to 10 feet.

And there are the prehistoric Great White Sturgeon affectionately known as Dinos .  Keeper- sized (legal to keep) Sturgeon measure from 40" to 60". You will have the experience of a lifetime with Captain Sean. Just bring your fishing license, camera and lunch - and don’t forget it's San Francisco, so dress in layers!!

2024 Fishing Seasons Set

ROCKFISH:  The 2024 rockfishing season is now open through the end of the year.  During the month of April, rockfishing is restricted to outside of the 50 fathom boundary (deeper than 300 feet) catching slope rockfish, shelf rockfish and lingcod.  Thankfully the deeper water does crank out some extremely huge rockfish...it just takes a little more muscle and a little heavier sinkers and gear.  Check out our recent fish reports to see pictures of some of the bomber fish being caught onboard the Queen of Hearts.  As of May 1, rockfishing moves in along the coast inside the 20 fathom boundary for five months (from shore to 120 feet).  The coastline fishery is open May, June, July, August, September and November, and the deep water fishery is open April, October and December.   Pending any emergency actions, the seasons will be the same in 2025 and 2026.

DUNGENESS CRAB:  The commercial crab season is now closed.  If you have your own boat or crab along the coast or piers, recreational anglers can continue to harvest dungeness crab through the end of June in our area, but anglers are restricted to using hoop nets or snares (crab pots are not permitted). SALMON:  It is now official...no salmon fishing anywhere in California for 2024.  As long as all goes as planned, salmon fishing will open next year on Saturday, April 5, 2025 with a 24" minimum two fish limit off our coastline.

Welcome to Half Moon Bay Sportfishing and Tackle , located on the coast about 20 miles south of San Francisco, the only stop you have to make for the fishing adventure of a lifetime! We have the supplies you need for a fantastic day on the water onboard the charterboats that book through our shop as well as all the basic gear, bait, and tackle you need for a great trip on your own boat or from the shore. You can also purchase day and annual fishing licenses as well as commercial fishing and hunting licenses at our shop. Our staff has unsurpased knowledge of gear and techniques for salmon, rockfishing, surf fishing, Dungeness crab and other various species of ocean dwellers that live in our part of the ocean.

We've always had a complete array of the best bait that's available for sale in our shop that is constantly rotated to be as fresh as possible. But now we've gone one step further...Half Moon Bay Sportfishing is one of the first bait and tackle shops in California to own its own frozen bait vending machine available outside our front door 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Even when the shop is closed or we're crazy busy getting our charterboat customers out first thing in the morning, you can purchase your frozen bait from the machine using either cash or credit cards and get on out to the water quickly and easily.

Half Moon Bay Sportfishing and Tackle is proud to be the booking agent for the vessel Queen of Hearts, which has taken more people fishing out of Half Moon Bay than any other boat, hands down, since 1990.  The Queen of Hearts is Coast Guard licensed and inspected, insured, well maintained, and has an impeccable safety record.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning in March 2020 when the stay at home orders were established, we discontinued  booking any other vessels other than the Queen of Hearts through our shop.

Don Giberson.  The Reel Screamer II  is a gorgeous, immaculate 35’ Carolina Classic sportfishing yacht catering to the needs of up to six passengers.  Everything needed to fish onboard the Reel Screamer is included with the price of the fare, including fishing rods, reels, terminal tackle and bait.  The only extra required is a fishing license which can be purchased at our shop the morning of the trip.  Join Capt.
