Super informative free walking tour.

Super informative free walking tour (tip-based)!! It was my first free walking tour and I was positively surprised by how knowledgeable the guide Laura was. She's an architect by training and was able to give lots of cool information about the buildings and their history. 10/10 would recommend!

I did the grand tour with Laura. It’s a very informative walking tour, and time just flied. I really enjoyed it!

Jarod is an amazing tour-guide through Copenhagen. Since I'm travelling by myself it has been very nice to meet someone, who actually lives and also enjoys living here. Getting to know places through resident's eyes is so much more interesting and special. Would 100% recommend!

Loved the walking tour with our guide Laura ! Absolutely enlightening with all her personal stories and tips about living in Copenhaguen. We laughed a lot and deeply enjoyed the tour ☺️.

Rikki was great and knowledgeable. I wish it was a little more based on our needs and wants for a private tour. There was a bit of a preset schedule we were following that our tour guide did not want to go off of. Regardless, I’d still recommend Rikki. We all enjoyed.

The Little Mermaid Statue

The Little Mermaid Statue

The icon of Copenhagen If you're planning to visit Copenhagen, one of the most popular attractions you won't want to miss is the statue of the Little Mermaid. This iconic sculpture is located on the Langelinie pier. It is the symbol of the city and is a magnet for millions of tourists every year. You can visit the statue on your own, but it's worth considering a walking tour of Copenhagen to learn more about its history and culture. Many city tours include the Little Mermaid as one of their stops, allowing you not only to see the statue up close, but also to gain a deeper understanding of its significance to the people of Copenhagen. The Little Mermaid is a 1913 sculpture by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. The statue depicts the mermaid sitting on a rock by the water's edge, looking out over the harbour. Although it looks like a simple sculpture, it's actually quite complex and detailed, with intricate details on the mermaid's scales and flowing hair. One of the reasons why the Little Mermaid is so popular is because of its emotional connection to the people of Copenhagen. The story of the Little Mermaid is one of sacrifice and love, and it resonates with many people around the world. In fact, the statue has become a symbol of the city's resilience and strength, especially in times of turmoil and strife. A walking tour of Copenhagen is a great way to learn more about the city's history and culture.  Many tours include stops at famous[...]

Life in Denmark by an expat

Life in Denmark by an expat

Denmark, a small country located in Northern Europe, is known for its high standard of living, rich culture, and friendly people. The Danish society is characterized by a number of unique features that set it apart from other countries, especially when it comes to social life. In this article, we will explore some of the peculiarities of social life in Denmark. One of the most striking features of social life in Denmark is the concept of "hygge". Hygge, which is pronounced "hoo-ga", is a Danish word that roughly translates to "coziness" or "contentment". It is a cultural phenomenon that emphasizes the importance of creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, often through the use of candles, soft lighting, warm blankets, and good company. The idea of hygge is deeply ingrained in Danish culture, and it is often cited as one of the reasons why Denmark consistently ranks as one of the happiest countries in the world. Another aspect of social life in Denmark is the concept of "Janteloven". Janteloven, which translates to "the law of Jante", is a set of social norms that discourage individualism and promote humility. The law of Jante is based on the idea that no individual should consider themselves superior to others, and that everyone should be treated equally. This can manifest itself in many ways, such as a reluctance to show off wealth or achievements, or a tendency to downplay one's own accomplishments in order to avoid standing out from the crowd. Social gatherings in Denmark are also unique in their own way. For example, it is[...]

Discover the hidden gem of Copenhagen: Christiania

Discover the hidden gem of Copenhagen: Christiania

Walk around Copenhagen When most people think of Copenhagen, the first thing that comes to mind is the stunning architecture of the Old Town, the beautiful parks and the bustling waterfront. However, there is much more to this city than meets the eye. A hidden gem that is often overlooked by tourists is Christiania, a unique neighborhood in the heart of Copenhagen. Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania, is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighborhood founded in 1971. It was created by a group of squatters who took over an abandoned military base in the center of the city and created their own community, free from the rules and regulations of mainstream society. Today, Christiania is home to around 1,000 people who live in a tight-knit community that values sustainability, creativity and freedom. The neighborhood is known for its vibrant street art, eco-friendly lifestyle and relaxed atmosphere. Visitors who take a tour of Christiania can expect to see a side of Stockholm far removed from the polished image of the city's royal palaces and high-end boutiques. One of the best ways to explore Christiania is to take a free walking tour of the neighborhood. These tours are led by knowledgeable local guides who provide insight into the history, culture and social dynamics of the community. Visitors can learn about Christiania's origins, its struggles with the authorities, and its current status as a haven for artists and activists. During the tour, visitors can also see some of Christiania's most famous landmarks, such as Pusher Street, a narrow alley lined with stalls selling cannabis, and the Green[...]

Walking Tour: Exploring Central Copenhagen

Walking Tour: Exploring Central Copenhagen

Take a Walk Around Copenhagen Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a beautiful city that combines modernity with history. With its cobbled streets, colourful houses and charming canals. The city has a unique atmosphere that makes it one of the most popular destinations in Scandinavia. Exploring the centre of Copenhagen on foot is a great way to experience its charm and beauty. On this walking tour we will take you to some of the most popular places in the city and give you an insight into its history and culture. Our journey begins at the Rådhuspladsen, the main square in Copenhagen, also known as the City Hall Square. Here you will find the City Hall, a beautiful building completed in 1905. The building is an excellent example of the National Romantic style that was popular in Denmark at the beginning of the 20th century. The square is also home to several cafes and restaurants, making it a great place to start the day with a coffee. From the City Hall Square we head to Strøget, one of the longest pedestrianised streets in Europe. You will pass several historic buildings, including Our Lady's Church and the Stork Fountain, built in 1894, as you walk along Strøget.  Strøget is a great place to shop, people-watch and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the city. We continue our journey to Nyhavn, one of Copenhagen's most picturesque neighbourhoods. Nyhavn is famous for its colourful 17th century houses and charming canals. The area was once home to sailors and merchants, and its history is still evident in the many bars[...]

The easiest thing to do in Copenhagen? Be happy!

It's no wonder Copenhagen is so often voted the best place to live - there's a special, happy vibe about this compact city of old buildings, winding narrow streets, medieval character & new, modern architecture. Its relaxed lifestyle is demonstrated by laid-back locals enjoying the buzz of shopping on King's Road, unwinding in vibrant cafes in Nyhavn, watching talented performers on Strogret or chilling-out by beautiful canals, the colourful harbour or in wonderful green spaces like Faelledparken, the largest park in Denmark.

Aside from sipping Carlsberg in trendy Norrebro bars, soaking up the nightlife in Vesterbro & tasting local food in fantastic restaurants we recommend joining famously happy local guides for freetour.com free walking tours, including Christiania - a society independent of Danish government established by hippies in 1971 with galleries, music venues & pusher street hash market. An insight to alternative lifestyle & ways of thinking.

There's plenty of history to discover in Copenhagen too, over 1,000 years worth in fact, from Vikings, invasions, battles and Nazi occupation to many interesting sights such as the Tivoli Gardens, the little mermaid, Kronberg castle, Rosenborg castle, palaces & ruins. Copenhagen is a cosmopolitan capital of stylish sophistication where fashionable & cool merge seamlessly with ancient character, culture & historical tradition.

I'm seeing several companies offering free walking tours of the walled City, can anyone recommend one? We are looking for a short version as we have difficulties walking long distances. I'm thinking that we can just see how much we can walk and then leave when we no longer want to walk (we will tip anyways).

You don't say how much time you have in Cartagena but if your time allows do the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus, for something like 65,000 Col pesos it's will give you a good sense of the layout of the Historic Center, the Fort and Bocagrande.

Hope this helps.

We always use the GuruWalk app - plenty of options, timings stated, all with reviews so you can pick a small/large group. We’ve probably done half a dozen in the last 6 months and all have been worth it.
