Reykjavík’s diverse bar scene offers plenty of options, ranging from luxurious cocktail bars to charming microbreweries and everything in between. Plan your route with this happy hour guide or have a local show you around town with the Reykjavík Beer and booze tour .

The best happy hours in downtown Reykjavík

Starting your night out on the town at one of the many happy hours in Reykjavík can be a great way to drink cheaper, meeting some locals or getting to know other tourists.

Most happy hours start around 4 PM and last until 6 or 7 PM but many bars offer the chance to start earlier in the day.

The longest happy hours in the city

Local favourites

Vínstúkan is Reykjavík’s beloved wine bar with a carefully curated selection of (natural) wines. Pair your wine with their delicious tapas-like dishes, perfect for intimate dates or cosy gatherings. During their unique happy hour, sharing a bottle of wine earns you two complimentary dishes. Experience the perfect blend of fine wine, culinary delights, and cherished moments at Vínstúkan Happy hour: 5 PM to 7 PM Location: Laugavegur 27

Kaffibarinn has stood as a cornerstone of Icelandic nightlife since its opening in 1993. Despite its modest size, the bar has a unique charm that draws crowds, especially during weekends. However, a visit during the daytime offers a nice ambiance, ideal for enjoying a coffee or beer. Happy hour: 5 PM to 7 PM Location: Bergstaðastræti 1

Röntgen welcomes you with a warm, candlelit ambiance and lovely background music. As the weekend approaches, the atmosphere seamlessly shifts from cosy to lively, with the dance floor opening up around midnight. Happy hour: 4 PM to 7 PM Location: Hverfisgata 12

Must know´s before enjoying Reykjavík´s nightlife

Before diving into the vibrant nightlife of Reykjavík, there are some essential points to keep in mind. Firstly, the legal drinking age in Iceland is 20 years old and it’s standard practice for bars to have doormen checking IDs, especially on weekends. Additionally, if you’re planning a night out during the winter months, it’s crucial to check the weather forecast and dress accordingly, ensuring you have sturdy footwear for navigating the icy streets.

While tipping isn’t customary in Iceland, and drinks can be on the pricey side, it’s ultimately about enjoying yourself responsibly. So, embrace the unique experience, stay safe, and have a fantastic night out in Reykjavík.

People partying in Reykjavík Iceland

Does Reykjavík have a good nightlife?

When thinking of Iceland, partying might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but the world’s most peaceful nation boasts a vibrant nightlife scene waiting to be explored.

Locals in Reykjavík typically kick off their evenings at home before venturing out quite late, usually around 1 or 2 AM. They continue to revel into the early morning hours, with many bars remaining open until 5 AM. Especially during the summertime, witnessing the transition from the dimly lit interiors of bars to the bright summer night can be an enchanting experience, adding to the allure of Reykjavík’s nightlife

What are bars like in Iceland?

Icelandic bars aren’t typically large venues, but they often offer a range of additional services such as food, happy hours, talented DJs to keep the dance floor buzzing and even open up for brunch the next day.

Expect a delightful mix of aesthetically pleasing interiors and welcoming atmospheres. Whether you prefer a fancy cocktail bar, a cosy wine bar or a traditional brown café, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Is there a dress code for nightlife in Iceland?

While many bars in Iceland don’t enforce a strict dress code, some of the more upscale venues may expect their guests to dress nicely, opting for attire like blazers, suits, or elegant dresses.

It’s common for Icelanders to dress up when heading out for the night, showcasing their knack for stylish outfits that also keep them warm during winter bar-hopping adventures. So, while there’s no formal requirement, blending style with practicality is key to fitting in with the locals during Reykjavík´s nightlife scene.

The Best Happy Hour Spots on Hilton Head Island

On Hilton Head Island, beachside happy hour is a way of life.

happy hour travel

The best part of being at a beach town is that you don't have to wait to finish a busy work day, fight traffic, and rush to get the best happy hour deal. On Hilton Head Island, every hour of the day is meant for riding a bike in the warm sun and walking up to the nearest beach bar for a cold drink. And if you choose to dress up for an evening out, there are upscale wine bars and cozy golf resorts too. Outdoor seating is nothing out of the ordinary — neither is bringing the family, including the dog, along for the fun. Here are the best places to enjoy happy hour on Hilton Head Island.

Pool Bar Jim's

Pool Bar Jim's is a typical beach bar where you can walk up barefoot in a bathing suit. Located on the popular public Coligny Beach, the best way to access the bar is by riding a bike to it or walking from the beach. Specializing in tropical frozen fresh fruit drinks, the bar serves excellent frozen daiquiris, fish tacos, and burgers.

Tiki Hut at Beach House

For good music and fun atmosphere, head over to Tiki Hut . Known as the best entertainment venue on the island, there is a live band playing every afternoon starting at 1 p.m. Families gather to listen to acoustic, country, classic rock, and funk, and occasionally get up to dance. Libations include on-the-rocks, frozen, on-top, and from-the-bottle beer and cocktails.

Fishcamp on Broad Creek

The drinks are stiff and the seafood serious at the casual Fishcamp overlooking scenic Broad Creek. Sit outdoors by the firepit and watch the sunset over the historic waterfront. Happy hour is between 4 and 6 p.m., when you can get $2 off the bar menu and $1 off drinks. This is one of the rare places on the island to taste southern favorites like deviled eggs with fried oysters, gator bites, and fried frog legs.

Hudson's Dockside and Boathouse

Located at what used to be a fish processing factory, Hudson's is one of the oldest family-run restaurants on the island. Grab a seat at the deck bar overlooking the docks and catch a perfect sunset on Skull Creek. Happy hour is from 4 to 6 p.m. and specials include sustainably caught local seafood appetizers such as barbecue shrimp, crab beignets, and oysters on the half-shell.

Coast Oyster Roast

Oyster roast is one of Lowcountry's traditions that you have to experience at least once. You can spend an entire Saturday afternoon shucking fresh-caught oysters roasted on-site over an open fire while listening to live music and sipping on a cucumber Bloody Mary. Sit at the outdoor deck or oceanfront bar at Coast overlooking a stunning beach at The Sea Pines Beach Club Resort. Oyster roasts are held every other Saturday and admission is free.

Skull Creek Boathouse

Located next to a multi-deck boat house on Skull Creek , this landmark waterfront restaurant features an extensive cocktail and food menu. Seating at the outdoors Marker 13 Buoy Bar is first-come, first-served and happy hour specials include $2 off sushi and $1 off drinks. The Sunday brunch menu offers fresh tuna rolls, chicken and waffles, Tito's vodka oyster shooters and $4 mimosas. And if you stay on for dinner, try the Carolina catfish, fried green tomatoes, and rainbow rice bowl — all of which were featured on the Food Network show Beach Eats .

Black Marlin Bayside Grill and Hurricane Bar

Located on the south end of Hilton Head Island at Palmetto Bay Marina, this hole-in-the-wall is a popular local spot. The Hurricane Bar is known for frozen daiquiris, seasonal live music, oyster roasts, and hurricane parties. Happy hour specials from 4 to 7 p.m. include $2 off appetizers, liquor, house wines, and frozen drinks, and $1 off beer. Pair them with local peel-and-eat shrimp, sushi nachos, fried flounder sandwiches, and chilled seafood rolls.

The elegant, upscale restaurant offers over 1,000 bottles of wines from all over the world and was voted Best Wine Selection by the readers of Hilton Head Monthly Magazine . Reserve a seat next to the outdoor fireplace and kick back with a glass from the wine menu, or purchase a bottle from the well-stocked wine shop for a small corkage fee. There's live music every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Links, an American Grill

Links offers a Spectator award-winning wine list and stunning views of the legendary Harbour Town Golf Links. Sunday mornings are perfect for a round of golf, followed by brunch with bottomless mimosas for $12. In the afternoons, there's crispy fritto misto and Lowcountry-style jumbo lump crab cake on the bar menu from 3 to 5 p.m.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

20 Happy Hour Ideas to Boost Your Business

group of people toasting with drinks during happy hour after work

Happy hour is an incredible driver for restaurants and bars. The most recent pre-pandemic reporting from Nielson in 2018 found that 60.5% of the weekly sales from average restaurants and bars could be attributed to happy hour events, just a few hours each week. Thanks to meal specials, games, live entertainment, and other promotions, happy hour ideas stood out as a primary revenue driver for most food-focused businesses.

However, post-work food and drink specials aren’t for the benefit of restaurants and bars alone. An array of hospitality businesses can drive business by incorporating happy hour into their sales strategy.

Supercharge your venue's success with these digital marketing strategies

Find happy hour ideas that fit your business

Whether you work in restaurants, hotels, venue sales, or events, incorporating happy hour ideas into your calendar can help drive business and attract new customers. Harness the sense of urgency happy hour events create to promote your venue and bring new patrons through the door. If you’re looking for unique, memorable, and entertaining happy hour events that people actually want to attend, you’ve come to the right place.

Happy hour ideas that attract professionals

Is your hotel or restaurant in a bustling downtown area or retail district? Capitalize on your location to attract office workers, commuters, and shoppers running errands during after-work hours with happy hour specials like—

  • Wine and whiskey tastings

Host tastings during happy hour to create enticing discount opportunities for consumers. Offer tasters further discounts on additional glasses or bottles—during happy hour only. Create a loyalty program to encourage repeat tastings, rotating offerings with the season and guest requests.

  • Gigantic game night

Darts, billiards, and arcade games are staple happy hour activities. Appeal to the professionals in your market by offering something different—something bigger—by hosting jumbo-sized game competitions to drive business during happy hour. Include giant Jenga, inflatable lawn bowling, life-size Connect Four, and other super-sized favorites.

  • Trivia night

BartenderPlanet reports that most adults in the U.S. spend about 2.5 hours at happy events, with 38% of American adults stating they think the event should last three hours. Appeal to consumers seeking an extended after-work event with trivia nights.

Hosting trivia nights is a fantastic way to encourage team-building, promote socialization, and build a base of loyal, repeat customers. Find an engaging host who knows how to work a crowd and experiment with unique, niche themes to discover what gets people in the door.

  • Yappy Hour

So many professionals rush home after work to care for their four-legged friends. Many are too tuckered to consider going out again after feeding, walking, and playing with their beloved pets. But what if they could bring your furry friend along? Host “Yappy Hour,” a dog-friendly happy hour, once a month or a few times a year. Watch as animal-loving interest in your establishment grows.

Health and wellness happy hour ideas

Consumers’ desire to reduce their alcohol intake has created an interesting hurdle for bars, restaurants, hotels, and other venues relying on happy hour to attract much-needed revenue. In 2023, 38% of Americans reported wanting to drink less alcohol, and the trend continues. Although happy hour traditionally revolves around low-priced drinks and affordable, high-calorie appetizers, consider offering customers healthier happy hour options.

  • Active Hour

Create happy hour events that appeal to the more active members of your community. Gather groups to go on a pub walk, enjoy an evening of spirited salsa dancing, or a community cycling trip that ends with a few brews. Include healthy snacks, like a hummus place, pita chips, or freshly pulled chicken. Provide high-carb beers to help participants refuel after more intense activity.

Consider offering discounts to groups training to compete in a local marathon or similar competition. This can attract new patrons to your establishment while giving your venue a unique opportunity to show off its sponsorship potential.

  • Eco-conscious drink specials

One of the hottest health food trends to watch in 2024 is eco-conscious drinking, which has become more important to consumers. Eco-conscious drinks favor environmental conservation, sustainable water sourcing, and the use of often-discarded fruit byproducts. Serve sustainably farmed oysters with eco-friendly cocktails to impress guests while supporting local ecosystems.

  • Highlight socially and environmentally responsible menu items

Sustainability is no longer a desire for most travelers; it’s a necessity. As travel and tourism's environmental and local impacts become more well-known, travelers have explicitly started seeking eco-friendly destinations, products, and brands.

Organize happy hour events that promote your green hotel or plant-based menu. Build themed tapas, such as dishes with more protein or less meat. Highlight responsibly and ethically sourced delectable dishes with high-quality, local ingredients.

Optimize your green budget with these sustainable tactics

  • Functional food and drink specials

How many modern professionals run from event to event after work? Appeal to even the busiest bees with “power-up” happy hour promotions, like espresso martini discounts, high-protein appetizer specials, or a low-cost but refreshing yoga class in the park. Market your event to those who need a post-work energy boost before attending another event.

Community-building happy hour ideas

Do you want to introduce your venue to more members of the community? Are you trying to create a stronger community at work? Are you looking for a way to build stronger bonds or gain more trust within your team? If so, consider mixing team-building fundamentals with a little bit of fun with these engaging, low-pressure happy hour ideas:

  • Multi-departmental meet & greet

At large venues, it’s too easy for employees to work together without getting to know one another. Host an after-work interdepartmental meet and greet. Offer an impressive spread of delicious snacks, provide alcohol if appropriate, and plan a few low-key icebreakers to ease the tension .

  • Co-op local coworking spaces

Open your happy hour events up to more attendees by tapping into the availability of coworking space near you. Look for hip, connected coworking spaces that can accommodate businesses of all sizes. Spaces like Bond Collective , which have locations in several states, enable companies from various industries to open their events up to more attendees.

  • Team game night

Gather members of your office for an evening of friendly competition. Play engaging games like Pictionary and charades, or compete in team-building challenges , like a puzzle race or scavenger hunt. Encourage employees to form small teams to complete a local or business-based scavenger hunt. Advertise an enticing prize for the winner, such as tickets to a major attraction, dinner for two, or extra vacation days.

  • Dinner out

There are few better ways to show your staff appreciation, without making them feel obligated to attend an hours-long event, than by providing them with a free meal. Treat your employees to a fantastic dinner out. Choose a space with an open floor plan that promotes peer-to-peer connection and can accommodate all attendees.

  • Holiday happy hours

The holidays provide dozens of reasons to eat, drink, and be merry throughout the year. Host a series of holiday-themed happy hour events to drive more business all year long, with events for—

  • Valentine’s Day
  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • Halloween
  • 4 th of July
  • Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza

Take it further and create fun marketing campaigns for unorthodox holidays. Celebrate National Donut Day, International Fondue Day, and other festive events. Create packages for happy hour-style corporate holiday parties or offer catering packages to supercharge holiday sales.

Attract foodies with these happy hour ideas

Incorporate food-focused events into your venue’s happy hour schedule to appeal to various clientele. Whether you offer made-to-order meals or pre-wrapped bakery items, you can use happy hour events to promote your establishment’s most incredible eats.

  • Build-your-own (BYO) food bar specials

Use happy hour to show off a few of your best dishes at a discount. Be it tacos, burgers, or breakfast, highlight your specialties with a build-your-own food bar. Treat happy hour guests to sundaes, omelets, loaded fries, or whatever dishes you do best. Patrons are more likely to be pleased with their food because they choose the ingredients.

  • Feature local fare

Encourage vendors to sell merchandise and promote their products during happy hour events at your venue. Feature local farms, wineries, chefs, and other culinary creators to appeal to broad audiences. Host a local cheese monger or farm-to-table restaurant, and use cross-promotional marketing campaigns to spread the word.

  • Seasonal samplers

Whether you manage a partial-service chain hotel, a large full-service vacation resort, or a rustic event venue, your menu probably shifts with the seasons. As the weather changes, tease your exciting new dishes with seasonal samplers during happy hour. Drum up excitement by advertising the opportunity to “be the first to try” the latest scrumptious samples.

  • Chef’s Special happy hour

On occasion, host specialty happy hours featuring cocktails and dishes designed by your head chef. In addition to providing an exclusive opportunity to taste limited menu items, chef events appeal to customers by allowing them to meet the star of the show up close. However, don’t overextend your chefs, as their schedules are likely full already. Instead, provide financial and promotional incentives to network with high-profile customers once or twice a quarter.

A man and a woman at happy hour laughing and viewing images on their phones

Teach a new skill at happy hour

Incorporate fun and engaging activities into your happy hour ideas. Ask your guests what they wish they knew how to do, and organize classes or workshops that appeal to current and prospective customers, like:

  • Cooking classes

Do you have excess kitchen, patio, or dining space? Look for unique opportunities to turn unused space into exciting happy hour event locations. Organize an affordable cooking class hosted by the chef or promote BYO cooking events. Invite patrons to build their own skewers and watch them grilled or learn how to whip up homemade versions of your best appetizers at home.

  • “Mix & Mingle” mixology workshops

Host an after-work mixology with members of your office or organization, or organize a “Mix & Mingle” networking event for the public. Invite folks to join a short workshop with a cocktail expert, learn some moves, and enjoy a few low-cost, high-end drinks while they pick up new party tricks.

  • Paint Night

Invite patrons to purchase a ticket to Paint Night, which includes a couple of glasses of wine or craft beers. Offer additional beverages available at happy hour prices while the event lasts. Encourage members of your community to come out, try a local drink, and have fun learning to paint a stunning scene.

Put these happy hour ideas to good use

Whether you operate an inn, restaurant, or large wedding venue, you have a list of happy hour events you can use to attract new customers. Start scheduling happy hour events with your team to shake things up in the months ahead.

'Conan O'Brien Must Go' is side-splitting evidence of life beyond late night TV

Eric Deggans

Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway. Conaco/Max hide caption

Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway.

To be honest, when I first heard Conan O'Brien was ending his TV talk show in 2021, I assumed news that he might turn to variety shows and online programs to continue his career was some combination of face-saving and wishful thinking.

But after watching the four episodes of his new Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , it's now obvious — even to a thickheaded critic like me — that leaving late night TV really was liberating for O'Brien. He's leveraged his unique sensibility into several different podcasts, a deal with Sirius XM , specials featuring other stand-up comics and now this travel series for Max — which resembles jokey specials he did for cable channel TBS back in the day.

And as the late night TV genre crumbles under sagging viewership and the decline of traditional media, O'Brien's renaissance also provides an example for the future — where fertile comedy minds and talented performers can spread their work over a much larger canvas.

Is Conan O'Brien the best 'Hot Ones' guest ever? Discuss.

Pop Culture Happy Hour

Is conan o'brien the best 'hot ones' guest ever discuss., learning a lesson from 'hot ones'.

O'Brien already made a splash recently with his brilliantly maniacal appearance on the interview-while-eating-hot-wings show Hot Ones , slobbering over hot sauces while claiming, as he was checked over by a fake doctor, that "I'm fine! I'm perfectly f*****g fine!"

This is the place where O'Brien shines — he's called it "this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid" — and it's on full, freakish, super silly display in every episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go .

The conceit of the show is pretty simple. O'Brien heads overseas to visit average folks in Norway, Argentina, Thailand and Ireland who had once Zoomed in to speak with him on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan . Sometimes the visits seem like a surprise — he catches one aspiring Norwegian rapper in shorts and Crocs after popping up on his doorstep — and others seem a bit more planned, including his visit to a radio show with about four listeners in Buenos Aires.

Each episode begins with a solemn monologue which sounds like it is delivered by the film world's most eccentric voice, German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (he's not credited in the show and when asked, a publicist at Max shared a quote from O'Brien: "I can neither confirm nor deny the voice in question.")

The torturous accent by "Herzog" makes every line sound absurdly hilarious, describing O'Brien as "the defiler ... with dull, tiny eyes ... the eyes of a crudely painted doll ... he scavenges in distant lands, uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition and the occasional selfie."

Now that's smart. And oh so stupid.

A funhouse mirror version of a travel show

O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway

Fans of O'Brien's Conan Without Borders specials on TBS already know what his style is when he tackles a travel show — throwing himself into outrageous reactions and situations while working his quirky brand of improvised conversations with hapless bystanders.

In the Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , that includes O'Brien offering screechy vocals onstage during a performance of a Norwegian emo/rap band. Or asking provocative questions of a couple therapist/sex expert. Or getting beat up in a "fight" with a 10-year-old boy in a bar.

It's all an excuse for O'Brien to unleash his energetic wit, taste for silly absurdity and skill at drawing laughs from sympathetic — if often befuddled — strangers. Whether you enjoy this special will depend on how you feel about O'Brien's style, which can feel a bit like the world's best class clown doing everything possible to make you crack a smile.

(Rent a family in Norway so they can say goodbye when he gets on a SeaCraft? Check. Get local artists to paint a mural of O'Brien, a soccer star and The Pope on the side of a building in Argentina? Double check.)

'Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend' Is A Joke Name For A Podcast — Sort Of

'Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend' Is A Joke Name For A Podcast — Sort Of

But what amazes in a larger sense is how O'Brien has turned his sensibility into a comedy brand to fuel work on many different platforms. And, at age 60, with more than 30 years as a comedy star, he's been released from the shackles of any genre to shine wherever he chooses — whether it's an episode of Hot Ones or a streaming service which sometimes looks like a collision between True Detective and 90 Day Fiancé .

Leaving late night TV as late night left him

I'm old enough that I started covering TV not long after O'Brien made his first move from the shadows of life as a comedy writer – he worked on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons — to succeed David Letterman in 1993 as host of NBC's show Late Night (now hosted by Seth Meyers). Back then, NBC gave O'Brien years to figure out the show, honing his smartly serious comedy in a way that would inspire then-teenage fans like Seth Rogen and Bill Hader .

O'Brien left NBC after a disastrous deal where the network tried to make him host of its venerated late night program The Tonight Show and also keep its former host Jay Leno at the network. He moved to a late night show on TBS in 2010, but even then, there was a sense that his creativity was a bit hemmed in by the format.

After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night

After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night

By the time he left his TBS show Conan for good, it seemed O'Brien was already caught in a trend which would hobble other late night shows — as young viewers consumed his content online and ratings on cable dropped.

Now, with a podcast and digital media company worth many millions and growing status as a TV comedy legend still willing to do almost anything for a laugh, O'Brien is proving there is a successful life beyond late night.

Particularly, if you have the talent to play the fool while leaving little doubt you're also the smartest person in the room.

The Top 14 Bellevue Happy Hours (Casual, Bars, High-End)

I remember back when I was just a kid in the 90’s how small Downtown Bellevue was. Fast forward a couple of decades and Downtown Bellevue rivals Downtown Seattle in high rises, shopping, traffic, and of course restaurants and bars.

Downtown Bellevue boasts numerous high-end restaurants, casual eateries, and bars. With each restaurant or bar comes happy hours. I’ll walk you through each happy hour with my recommendations and things you need to know.

The Top 14 Bellevue Happy Hours:

Cocktails at a bar

  • John Howie Steak
  • Daniel’s Broiler
  • Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi
  • STK Steakhouse
  • Civility & Unrest
  • Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar
  • Wild Ginger
  • Duke’s Seafood & Chowder
  • Earl’s Kitchen & Bar
  • Forum Social House
  • Maggiano’s Little Italy
  • Bake’s Place Bar & Bistro

1. John Howie Steak

View this post on Instagram A post shared by John Howie Steak (@johnhowiesteak)

Address: 11111 NE 8th St, STE 125, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: USDA Prime Beef Bacon Cheeseburger

Type: High-End

John Howie Steak is located at “The Shops at Bravern”, which is a building housing some of the biggest names in retail such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada. As soon as you park and walk out to the shops, you know you’re mingling with high society. Step into John Howie and you’re greeted by a host, but since you’re here for happy hour, decline that seat for dining and walk straight over to the large bar section.

You can take a look at their menu here, but if you’re into burgers and fries, no need to even look. You’ll want to order the USDA Prime Beef Bacon Cheeseburger and a side of Wagyu Beef Fat Truffle Fries. It’s a lot of food for some but for most, you won’t leave hungry after ordering that. If you’re planning on splitting that burger, know they have a $2 charge.

If you’re looking for more of a small appetizer and shared plates type of experience, I highly recommend the brussel sprouts, artichoke hearts, and wagyu beef flatbread. For you seafood lovers, the prawn cocktail is always fresh and it comes with a cocktail sauce that has some heat so be aware.

Happy Hour: John Howie Steak happy hour is every day from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Dress: Even though it’s a high-end restaurant, feel free to dress business casual.

Parking: If you’re driving, you’ll likely park in the Bravern garage. Be sure to take your parking ticket with you as John Howie Steak validates.

2. Daniel’s Broiler

Daniel's Broiler in Seattle

Address: 10500 NE 8th, 21st Floor, Bellevue WA, 98004

Best for: Filet Mignon Steak Strips

Daniel’s Broiler is located on the 21st floor of the Bank of America building in the Bellevue Place complex. Park in the Bellevue Place parking garage and ride that elevator up to the 21st floor and you’ll step right out into the open entrance area of the restaurant. A couple steps over to your right is the Prime 21 Lounge which offers a 90-degree view overlooking Bellevue and into Seattle.

As you walk through the lounge, you’ll notice a grand piano. They have live piano entertainment on Tuesday – Saturday starting at 7:00 PM. On a beautiful summer evening, you can even grab a seat outside! The lounge definitely goes for a modern-day speakeasy look and feel.

My favorite appetizer on their menu is their filet mignon steak strips. It’s perfectly cooked filet strips that have been marinated in a light, yet sweet teriyaki glaze, and finished off with sesame seeds and green onions. They’ll bring it to you in a little black grill pan that can be hot, so be careful. Depending on your appetite you’ll want to order a couple of these!

If you’re looking for a little texture contrast from the filet strips, I recommend the fried calamari. It comes with a spicy cocktail sauce and a savory lemon aioli sauce, both delicious.

Order a refreshing and smooth Hendrick’s gin martini and you’ve got the perfect compliment to your appetizers.

Happy Hour: One of the downsides to this happy hour is it’s only available Thursday – Saturday starting at 4:00 PM.

Dress: The recommended attire is business casual.

Parking: Daniel’s Broiler validates so bring your parking ticket if you parked in the Bellevue Place garage.

3. Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi (@ascendprimebellevue)

Address: 10400 NE 4th St, STE 3100, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The View

Hands down, Ascend Prime is going to win when it comes to views and atmosphere . But don’t let the aesthetics fool you, as the quality and taste of their food rivals any on this list. Ascend Prime is located on the 31st floor of the Lincoln Tower South building. Reach the 31st floor and immediately transport into the most scenic and chic atmosphere on our list.

Walk past the host desk and you’ll see a panoramic view of Downtown Bellevue, Lake Washington, Downtown Seattle, and Bellevue Park. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting during the summer days at sunset… well let’s just say you better get there early or have a reservation because you’re not getting a seat.

If you are able to take your eyes away from the views outside and turn around, you’ll see that Ascend has an open concept where you can see chefs preparing food, fresh seafood and steaks on display, and fireplaces set throughout the restaurant.

Their Asian-influenced menu boasts several traditional plates with a slightly modern twist. Start with the hamachi truffle hand roll. The sweet potato is a pleasant addition and the truffle aioli adds a savory element to the palette. If you’re okay with adding some heat to your plate, the Korean-style karaage is a must. This is a lightly battered crispy chicken dish and it comes with gochujang chili, which is a staple marinade in Korean cuisine.

If you’re in the mood for a drink presentation, order the Cloud Nine cocktail. It’s vodka, vanilla syrup, and Japanese soda along with some dry ice to keep the bubbles bubbly and your drink cloudy.

Happy Hour: Happy hour is every day from 3 PM – 6 PM and 9 PM to close.

Dress: You can wear casual clothes but you will feel a bit underdressed if you do. If you’re visiting on a weekend evening, be prepared for a big crowd and folks dressed to the nines.

Parking: They’ll validate your parking if you park at either Lincoln Square parking garages so bring your ticket with you.

4. STK Steakhouse

View this post on Instagram A post shared by STK Steakhouse (@eatstk)

Address: 610 Bellevue Way NE #110, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Price

Located on the ground floor of the Lincoln Tower North building, if you enjoy a high-energy environment with a club-like feel, STK is for you. It’s happy hour. Some people want to lay low and have a relaxing and chill evening. For others, it’s the start of the weekend and they’re looking for a good time. On top of it being a high-energy environment, STK has some of the lowest happy hour prices on our list.

Regardless of where you park, you’ll enter STK from Bellevue Way. The lighting is a soft purple that reflects against their white and black colored seating and furnishing. Grab a seat and take a look at their 3/6/9 dollar happy hour menu .

There are fresh oysters on the half-shell for $3 dollars a piece if you’re in the mood. The $6 giant wagyu meatball always makes it to my table when I’m at STK’s happy hour. Then it’s a debate between the tuna tartare taco or the STK* Frites… so I usually just order both. If you want to stick to the happy hour menu, you can get a signature cocktail or select wine by the glass for $9.

Happy Hour: Happy hours are Monday – Friday starting at 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM.

Dress: If you want to fit in with this crowd, you’ll want to be on the fashionable side. If you’re anything like me, you won’t care about that because it’s all about the happy hour!

Parking: Park at Lincoln Tower North garage or even at Bellevue Square Mall garage near Macy’s. If you park at the mall, you’ll need to cross the street or take the third floor bridge across.

5. El Gaucho

View this post on Instagram A post shared by El Gaucho (@elgauchosteakhouse)

Address: 450 108th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: Tenderloin Diablo

El Gaucho is located next to the Skyline Tower and plaza. The parking garage can be a little tricky to find so follow your GPS to a point, and then look carefully for signage that will help you. El Gaucho has a theater-like setup on their restaurant floor. You’ll see semi-circle booths all around the outer tiers, and as you make your way inward, you have your standard tables with seating.

El Gaucho has the smallest happy hour food selection on our list, which some may dislike. However, there isn’t a single item on the menu that I wouldn’t recommend. With that being said, the best item on the menu is the tenderloin diablo. You better like spicy because if you don’t, go with the steak frites or the Gaucho burger.

El Gaucho uses seared tenderloin tips cooked in clarified butter, minced garlic, and El Gaucho Diablo Spice and Seasoning for their Tenderloin Diablo dish. Not only does the tenderloin melt in your mouth, the spice melts your mouth! Order their mixed salad if you need something to cool yourself down. The salad comes with mixed greens, roasted grapes, julienne pear, and candied pecans topped off with a light fuji apple vinaigrette.

The last time I was at El Gaucho for happy hour, my waiter recommended the Gaucho Manhattan. It’s a perfect balance of sweet, but not so sweet as to overpower the bourbon. They also have a nice selection of Pacific Northwest beers available if you’re in the mood.

If you think El Gaucho is a place you’ll come back to a few times, consider signing up for their rewards program called, the “ Revelers Club ”. It’s free to join, you earn points for each dollar you spend at their participating restaurants, and you’ll even earn bonus offers on your birthday.

Happy Hour: El Gaucho offers their happy hour on Tuesday – Friday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Dress: Although this is a high-end steakhouse, dress business casual and you’ll fit right in.

Parking: Parking is validated so bring your ticket.

6. Civility & Unrest

Bartender Making a Cocktail

Address: 10455 NE 5th Place, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Cocktail Selection

I think the most difficult thing about Civility & Unrest is actually finding the place! It’s between Lincoln Tower North and South down by the W Hotel entrance. You’ll go outside where the valet entrance is, under a set of stairs, and to the left of the big iPhone.

Self-described as a bar inspired by cocktail culture and underground speakeasies, you’ll first enter into the Civility section, which is a cozy room, dimly lit with a fully stocked whiskey bar that is clearly the centerpiece of the room. If you’re wanting a little more speakeasy atmosphere, head on back to the hidden Unrest section.

You’ll be ordering food from The Lakehouse, which is a separate restaurant. However, Civility & Unrest is all about the vast cocktail and liquor selection. Try something traditional like a gin martini with a twist of lemon or a bourbon manhattan with muddled orange. If you’re feeling a bit more modern and contemporary, the hot in Jalisco has a spicy bite. The storm season is one of my personal favorites as the chocolate persimmon adds a new flavor profile not expected in any cocktail drink.

Happy Hour: Daily from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Dress: Business casual is just fine but there might be a few spirited individuals looking to really dive into that speakeasy feel.

Parking: Either Lincoln Square Tower works great but the south tower is probably best.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ladybugs magazine (@ladybugs.6)

Address: 800 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Atmosphere

Joey Bellevue is located on the ground floor of the Bellevue Place complex right outside the Hyatt Regency. The glass windows that are floor-to-ceiling cover most of the restaurant, so you’ll have a good view of the hustle and bustle of Downtown Bellevue . Joey has a restaurant section and a separate large bar. Head on over to the bar and you’ll see booths, high top seating, and a large square-shaped bar with black marble countertops.

Joey is a great mix of chic style, warm wood decor, and classic black trim. There’s always going to be a game playing on the TVs and a wait staff ready to take care of your food and drink needs. The menu has an Asian influence when it comes to food options. The sushi cone, Korean fried cauliflower, Japanese gyoza, and Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps are great choices for the table while taking in a game.

For drinks, the happy hour heavily emphasizes their beer selection but don’t let that stop you from grabbing a glass of wine or your favorite cocktail.

Happy Hour: Daily from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM – close.

Dress: Casual but if you’re there on a Friday or Saturday evening, you’ll see plenty of people dressed in suits and dresses just getting their evening started.

Parking: Bellevue Place parking garage will be your best option. Just take the elevator up to the ground floor.

8. Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar (@seastarbellevue)

Address: 205 108th Ave NE, Suite 100, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Oysters

Chef John Howie is a well-known name in the Seattle dining scene. Along with his flagship steakhouse restaurant that bears his name, there’s John Howie’s Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar. Known for constantly changing their seasonal menu based on the availability of fresh and local seafood, you won’t be disappointed when visiting this high-end establishment.

A simple and tasteful happy hour menu includes both items from the land and the sea. The shrimp shumai is a great addition to any menu but the real gem are the oysters. They’ll be freshly shucked and mostly sourced from the Pacific Northwest. Served with lemon, cocktail sauce, and refreshing mignonette, be sure to ask your server what choices are available when you visit.

Happy Hour: Sunday – Friday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Dress: Casual to business casual.

Parking: Parking is available in Seastar’s underground parking garage.

9. Wild Ginger

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Wild Ginger (@wildgingereats)

Address: 508 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: Chinese and Southeast Asian Food

Type: Casual

Wild Ginger is located on the ground floor of the Lincoln Square South building. An elegant and tranquil environment is accompanied by our most simple and straightforward happy hour menu on our list.

The happy hour menu has cocktails that include ingredients such as lychee, turmeric, and yuzu sake and four food choices consisting of chicken potstickers, Vietnamese chicken wings, Vietnamese cabbage salad, and tofu pad thai. Each dish is flavorful and cocktail refreshing.

You’ll likely do what we did last time we went to Wild Ginger’s happy hour, which is go for the happy hour, and stay for dinner!

Happy Hour: Daily from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Dress: Casual

Parking: Lincoln Tower South will be your best choice but both Lincoln Tower North and Bellevue Square Mall are just fine. If parking at Bellevue Square Mall, you’ll need to cross the street at ground level, or take the skybridge across from the third floor.

10. Duke’s Seafood & Chowder

Duke’s Seafood & Chowder

Address: 500 Bellevue Way NE, Suite 212, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Seafood

With seven different locations in the greater Seattle area, Duke’s Seafood & Chowder makes our list as the best seafood happy hour spot. Located on the second floor of the Lincoln Square South building, you’ll enter a warm wood furnished environment with fresh seafood on ice as your host walks you to a table.

Duke’s doesn’t really have a separate happy hour menu but uses the discounted happy hour prices off of select items from their main menu. Start happy hour off with a classic 3 John’s Martini and keep those fresh Pacific Northwest oysters coming!

The Wildly Delicious Alaska Salmon Sliders come on freshly baked and toasted Essential Baking Co (local) rosemary bread. This is a must get item for salmon lovers!

Happy Hour: Daily from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM – close

Parking: Lincoln Tower South parking garage is best. Be sure to remember which level you parked on and bring your ticket for validation.

11. Earl’s Kitchen & Bar

Earl's Restaurant in Bellevue

Address: 700 Bellevue Way NE, Suite 130, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: Asian and Mexican Influenced Small Eats.

Earl’s Kitchen & Bar makes our list as a jack of all trades restaurant. That’s not to say they aren’t masters of their food and drink, but depending on the time of day or the day of the week, Earl’s can go from a family style restaurant, a business lunch meeting spot, to a weekend evening nightlife environment.

What I love about Earl’s is the variety and quantity of small plate items they have on their happy hour menu that is has Asian and Mexican influences. From spicy tuna sushi tacos, to their Earl’s classic burger and fries, and their crispy tofu zen bowl, Earl’s has everything to satisfy you and your group’s happy hour food needs.

If you happen to be out having drinks  and decide to stop into Earl’s to satisfy your hunger, a plate of poutine fries or truffle fries always hits the spot. Need a little protein to go along with that? Go with the 6 ounce steak frites.

Happy Hour: Daily from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM – close

Dress: Casual but beware the weekend evening crowd!

Parking: Lincoln Square North parking garage works best. You’ll enter Earl’s from Bellevue Way. Bellevue Square Mall parking works too but note you’ll have to cross the street or take the third floor skybridge across.

12. Forum Social House

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Forum Social House (@forumsocialhouse)

Address: 700 Bellevue Way NE, Suite 300, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: Fun Activities

Forum Social House is located in the Lincoln Tower North building on the third floor. What used to be a billiards and bar has been completely transformed into one of Bellevue’s premier nightclub destinations. But on the weekdays, it’s not uncommon to see families out for dinner, playing a round of mini golf, or taking a few swings at their TopGolf Swing Suite.

The happy hour menu consists of your standard bar foods but with a higher quality. Plenty of fried dishes including onion rings, “just fries”, and chicken and waffles. If you’re in the chicken wing mood, well Forum Social House has them on their happy hour menu. In fact, it’s quite the selection. Korean BBQ, Buffalo, Original BBQ, Spicy BBQ, Mango Habanero, Fire Saue, Garlic Parmesan, or “The Dry Jerk”.

Happy Hour: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. All Day Tuesdays.

Dress: Casual.

Parking: Park in the Lincoln Tower North parking garage and take the elevator to the main floor. They validate so bring your parking ticket and don’t forget which floor you parked on! Once you reach the main floor, you can either take another set of elevators up to the third floor, or walk around the corner and you’ll see escalators.

13. Maggiano’s Little Italy

Wine Pouring at a Winery

Address: 10455 NE 8th St, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: Flatbreads

Maggiano’s is located on the ground floor of the Lincoln Tower North building. Decorated in a classic dark red with bright yellow lights, Maggiano’s is your classic Italian restaurant. Don’t be surprised if you hear Frank Sinatra softly serenading you through the speakers throughout happy hour.

There are only two items on the food menu and it’s a margherita or Italian sausage flatbread. But when you do flatbread this well, it’s all you really need. Wash that down with a Peroni and it’s like you’ve been lifted away to the old country.

Like Wild Ginger, I’ve often come for Maggiano’s happy hour to grab a small pre-dinner snack and ended up staying for dinner! A fantastic atmosphere with delicious food. Perfect to take the family or a romantic dinner date.

Happy Hour: Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Parking: Park in the Lincoln Tower North parking garage and take the elevator to the main floor. They validate so bring your parking ticket and remember which level you parked on.

14. Bake’s Place Bar & Bistro

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bake’s Place Bar & Bistro (@bakesplace)

Address: 155 108th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

Best for: The Music

Bake’s Place is a Bellevue mainstay when it comes to music venues. One of the last eastside locations to host live music and in particular keep jazz at its forefront, Bake’s Place holds a special place in my heart. With many of Downtown Seattle’s live jazz performance spaces closing down for one reason or another, Bake’s Place continues in keeping this American music swinging along.

A simple and straightforward menu, Bake’s Place doesn’t make our list for their food or any sort of special drinks. It’s really all about the intimate space and live music. If you were hoping to catch some live music, head on over to Bake’s Place early for happy hour. Chat amongst friends or just take in the intimate performance space. There’s likely to be straight ahead jazz playing throughout the restaurant.

This is a small and privately owned restaurant, bar, and music venue so they have some strict rules in order to keep business moving. Make sure you check out their general information page here so you’re up-to-date.

If you’re lucky enough with your timing, you might be able to catch Greta Matassa performing!

Happy Hour: Tuesday – Friday from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Parking: Free parking with validation after 4:00 PM for Bake’s Place guests in the Columbia West parking garage. Bring your ticket and yourself up the elevator to the lobby level.
