5 Upcoming Hip Hop Concerts You Can’t Miss In 2022: From Tyler to Sampa

hip hop tours australia

Banging out to songs like “Corso” (Tyler, the Creator) and “Wiley Flow” (Stormzy) on your headphones late at night during lockdown was cool, but think about what it’s going to be like when all that pent-up energy is released in at a concert this year? Yeah, that’s right. Concerts are coming back in full-force, and you better believe hip hop is a major part of that as big-ticket internationals make their way down under for events like Splendour in the Grass and VIVID Sydney.

We know heads have been waiting to get down to some of their old and new favourites, from Tyler, the Creator and Stormzy to Jack Harlow and Maxo Kream. These are the hip hop concerts you’re going to need to snatch up remaining tickets for you if you really want to get loose for live music this year.

Tyler, The Creator

Is there any rapper as emblematic of hip hop’s changing trends as Tyler, the Creator? The mischief-maker who arrived on the scene as the headline act of Odd Future has shown a ridiculous level of growth as an artist over the years. Just listen to “Goblin” and a song like “Wasyaname” back-to-back and try deny Tyler his incredible evolution, both sonically and as a rapper. With his latest album Call Me If You Get Lost delivering more than a few bangers like “Corso” and “Lemonhead,” you’d have to be a fool to miss Tyler’s Splendour set or his sideshows.

Jack Harlow

Sample a song that’s pretty much peak nostalgia for gen z’s Instagram set? Genius. Jack Harlow has one of the biggest songs in the world right now with the Fergie-sampling “First Class”. But this Kentucky boy is much more than one-trick pony. Master of the glow-up, from low-key bangers like “Sundown,” with a beat that sounds like Neptunes circa 2000, and mega-hits like “What’s Poppin,” the Kentucky rapper will be looking to stamp his rising star on Australia when he heads down under for Splendour in the Grass and its numerous sideshows.

Sampa the Great

It’s not all about the international acts when it comes to hip hop tours in Australia for 2022. Sampa the Great has had a tremendous past few years, coated with plenty of critical acclaim. The award-winning artist’s most important show of the year will be for Sydneysiders, closing out May at the Sydney Opera House with a headline spot at VIVID Live, presenting special show “An Afro Future.”

Maxo Kream may have been a surprising inclusion on the Splendour in the Grass line-up, but the forward-thinking Houston rapper may just prove to be the MVP for hip hop fans thirsting for a head-nodding concert this year. While live music makes a crawl back to normalcy, Kream will be ripping up the stage with his latest album Weight of the World at Splendour and major headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

While Tyler and Jack Harlow have it locked for mid-year, the biggest hip hop concert of 2022 will undoubtedly be the long-awaited arrival of UK beast Stormzy. Bringing his Heavy is the Head tour, which was supposed to happen in 2020, down under, the Brit emcee will be performing shows across Australia and will undoubtedly be making up for lost time. Track like “Wiley Flow” and “Vossi Bop” are hype enough when you’re listening to them at 2 am in your bed, so imagine what it’s going to be like when an entire capacity crowd turns up when the beat drops and the heavy-impact of Stormzy’s grimey flow hits.

Ice cube, cypress hill and the game are teaming up for huge australian tour in 2023.

Ice Cube Australia

In a holy union of 90s Hip-Hop, legendary rap banners Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game have announced their joint tour of Australia.

They’ll be teaming up to bring four massive arena shows to Aussie cities in March 2023. Kicking off on Thursday 23rd at Rod Laver Arena, the iconic lineup will also hit Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and Brisbane Entertainment Centre in their five-day stint.

Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game 2023 Australian tour

  • March 23 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
  • March 25 – Adelaide Ent Centre, Adelaide
  • March 26 – QUDOS Bank Arena, Sydney
  • March 28 – Brisbane Ent Centre, Brisbane

Check out Melbourne’s most comprehensive gig guide  here .

Event-goers will see large scale, next level production from those among the greatest names in Hip-Hop. The acts have graced the world’s largest stages, from Coachella to Rock The Bells and Once Upon a Time in L.A, and are bringing that energy down under.

O’Shea Jackson Sr., AKA Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, and filmmaker. His lyrics on N.W.A’s 1988 album Straight Outta Compton were instrumental in gangsta rap’s widespread popularity, and his politically-driven solo albums AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator gained critical and commercial success. In addition to his perhaps equally iconic career in film, Ice Cube’s musical victories saw him inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A. in 2016.

This is Ice Cube’s first show in the country since making history in 2018 by being the first ever rap artist to headline at the Sydney Opera House, also aligning with the 30th anniversary of his 1993 album, Lethal Injection.

“I love performing in Australia. It’s been four long years since my last visit and I can’t wait to return for a couple of history-making shows in 2023,” says Mr Cube.

As their music captivated millions of listeners, Cypress Hill earned fans around the world thanks to their riveting stage show. The California rap group ushered in a genre-shifting sonic tapestry, performed thousands of shows at a time when rappers were having a hard time getting booked for live gigs, and helped pave the way for rappers to use Spanish in their rhymes.

Along the way, Cypress Hill earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sold more than 9million albums, and were nominated for three Grammy Awards. Another anniversary, 2023 will be 30 years since the crew released their album, Black Sunday, which features, ‘Hits from the Bong,’ and ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That.’

Completing the killer lineup is double-platinum artist The Game. Emerging in the early 2000s as one of the rawest voices on the West Coast scene, combining intense autobiographical narratives and a creatively referential approach to hip-hop that has justified his stage name.

The international hip-hop heavyweights will be joined by exciting homegrown Australian talent, still to be announced.

Tickets for ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game’s 2023 Australia tour go on sale at 2 pm on November 23. Secure your tickets heading here .

PARIS TEXAS

Australia february 2024.

hip hop tours australia

JUST ANNOUNCED Paris Texas will be joined by FRIDAY* in Sydney & Agung Mango in Melbourne!

Astral People, Laneway Presents & Handsome Tours are proud to present Paris Texas in Australia this February!

Since joining forces in the late 2010s, the members of Paris Texas , Louie Pastel and Felix, have crafted some of hip-hop’s most singularly confounding songs—and accompanied them with videos that are at once narratively clever and hallucinatory, a rush of nostalgia and invention at once.

After earning national acclaim with Boy Anonymous and Red Hand Akimbo, two brief but essential drops from 2021, Paris Texas began pushing even further—becoming more musically adventurous and radically honest, their work a natural extension of their drive to unsettle listeners and subvert expectations. Filtered through songs that are rough and serrated or pulsing and playful, this ethos—of commitment to whatever feels nakedly true in a given instant—makes Louie and Felix unmissable voices in music today, essential translators of the end times.

Australia concerts in 2024: here’s a list of shows and tours coming up

Artists touring Down Under in 2024 include Coldplay, Pearl Jam, Hozier, Laufey, aespa, IVE and more

Fresh out of a pandemic, Australia’s 2023 touring calendar was one of the busiest in recent memory, as artists of all stripes took centrestage everywhere from stadium shows to intimate local gigs. With a starry schedule that included the likes of Post Malone , Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Mötley Crüe , it’ll be tricky for 2024’s schedule to outdo its predecessor – and yet, thanks to the likes of Taylor Swift , Blink-182 and Pink , plus Coldplay, Pearl Jam and SZA, it’s poised to do just that.

From debut headline shows for breakout artists to bustling festival sideshow programs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy as a stellar batch of musicians make their way Down Under in 2024. Read on for NME’s roundup of all the biggest concerts and tours coming to Australia this year.

Here are the concerts and tours coming to Australia in 2024:

James Taylor: An Evening with James Taylor & His All-Star Band When: April 12 – April 28 Find tickets and more info here

If there was ever a festival made for James Taylor & His All-Star Band at this juncture of his 50-year career, it’s Day on the Green . The singer will perform at wineries in Queensland (Sirromet Wines in Mount Cotton), and New South Wales (Bimbadgen in the Hunter Valley, and Centennial Vineyards in Bowral) across April 2024. Taylor will be accompanied by Aussie pair Josh Pyke and Ella Hooper .

Taylor is also playing his own headline shows. After selling out dates in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, new shows have been added in those cities. A Live Nation pre-sale begins February 9 while general on-sale starts February 12.

Chase & Status When: April 19 – April 28 Find more info and ticket waitlists here

After a new mixtape, charting singles and landmark Boiler Room set, drum’n’bass lifers Chase & Status celebrated a huge 2023. • Depeche Mode

Aussie Depeche Mode fans are an incredibly patient bunch. The last time the British synth-pop titans toured the country was in 1994, meaning nearly three decades have passed since they last paid us a visit. But good things come to those who wait, and it seems there is a glimmer of hope for those hoping to catch the band Down Under.

In March 2023, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan told an Italian blog that the band were eyeing “as-yet-unannounced dates in Asia and Australia” as part of a touring run that would lead into 2024. The band have toured the world in support of their latest album, ‘Memento Mori’ , and a trip to Australia to cap off the jaunt seems more likely than ever.

PARTYNEXTDOOR Announces "Sorry I'm Outside" Tour For 2024

Billboard Presents The Stage at SXSW - Day 1

PND is bringing slow jams to a city near you.

PARTYNEXTDOOR is riding high right now. The singer's new album, P4 , has been well-received by fans, with many praising the production and catchy melodies. It's a comeback of sorts for PND, given how quiet he's been during the first half of the 2020s. Thankfully, he's seizing the moment. The OVO veteran gave fans exactly what they wanted on April 29 when he announced that he will be going on tour during the second half of the year. The tour, titled "Sorry I'm Outside," came with an appropriately moody trailer.

The trailer, which runs just under 50 seconds, matches the aesthetic of PND's new album. It's a montage of images and moments mashing up PND's recording sessions in Hollywood with life in Toronto. We even see the Hollywood sign get replaced, at one point, by the title for lead single " Real Woman ." The swirling editing then shows a crowd of people chanting the chorus of the DMX classic "Party Up (Up In Here)." It doesn't provide any dates, but PND confirmed that they would be revealed on April 30 via Instagram. As far as teasers go, this one was pretty effective.

PARTYNEXTDOOR Named The Tour After A New Song

PARTYNEXTDOOR is notorious for being a shy artist, but he has been pushing himself to perform more. His nonexistent touring schedule post-pandemic has increased gradually to include stops at Rolling Loud California, Souled Out in Australia and SXSS in Texas. His manager, Tyler Henry, talked about the pointed decision to increase the singer's number of performances during a March profile with Billboard. "We like to do a few each year to make sure we’re fresh and in front of people’s minds," he explained. "It keeps us sharp for when a moment like this album comes."

PARTYNEXTDOOR has said that P4 is his most focused album yet. "This is the hardest I’ve ever worked on an album. This is the proudest I’ve felt," he told the outlet. "I’m excited to grind even more for the next [one]. I’m in love with how hard you should work for it." It's safe to assume the hard work that went into the album will also make its way into the tour. Drake might even take a break from beefing with the hip-hop world to make a surprise appearance during the Toronto stop.
