Welcome to Journey Christian Church!

We’re on a journey—a spiritual journey. And you’re invited to journey with us.

Though we’re people who are on a journey, it’s obvious we haven’t yet arrived. But we are “in process”—we’re on the move. We’re going places!

Some of us are just beginning the journey of faith—just taking those first steps. Others have traveled this way for a long time. Our backgrounds and experiences differ, but we’re all the same in one respect. We all want and need more of God. That’s why we travel together.

For more than 80 years, Journey Christian Church (formerly Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle) has offered Good News to hurting people. Through the years we’ve offered   hope   in times of stress and difficulty,   peace   during conflicts and wars, and an   eternal   perspective when society focused on prosperity and material things.

We’ve come through several generations—Builders, Baby Boomers, Busters, Gen-X, and Millennials—and still we care about people. Today our church reaches out to those seeking answers about life, about God, about relationships. We want to help people build connections with God and each other. We want to help individuals become part of a vibrant community of faith.

Over the years, we’ve worked to meet the needs of each generation with the timeless truths of the gospel. We aim to keep on doing this no matter what changes the future may bring. Along the way four buildings have been filled to capacity, and we continue to stretch to meet the needs of an expanding congregation.

Whether you've been to Journey before or this is your first time, we want to make sure your weekend experience is

a unique and exciting encounter with God. Below, you will find helpful information about our services,

Contemporary Worship

Journey loves to worship. Part of our weekend service experience is taking part in modern worship with a full, live band. Journey's style is similar to many of today's favorite Christian artists and worshipers. Song selections come from artists such as: Hillsong United, Hillsong Young and Free, Bethel, Elevation, and others. Journey also uses stage lighting and video to help create an intimate worship setting.

Teaching from Scripture

We believe that God's word is living and active. Journey's goal is to share messages that are Christ-centered and faithful to interpret the scriptures as they were initially intended. Journey uses a variety of speakers to help communicate the Gospel and believes that the voice of The Church is comprised of both men and women whom God uses to reveal His message.

Journey Kids

Journey believes that everyone should have a loving relationship with Jesus Christ, and that includes children. Journey has a dedicated staff and group of volunteers that work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow in the knowledge of Jesus during our Sunday services.

Journey uses the " Orange " philosophy to meet kids where they are and invite them into their own journey with Jesus. The Orange concept is the partnering of the church with parents to raise children who know and love God. Our lessons are designed to support the values being taught at home.

In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul wrote this about Communion:

"Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 

1 Corinthians 11: 25-26 ESV

We believe in and observe the institution of Communion which was started by Jesus and practiced by the early church as a representation of Christ's death and resurrection. We view communion as a symbol of Jesus' body and blood. This act is a symbol of what he did to free us from sin and death.

During our services, you will have the opportunity to observe Communion every week.

Water Baptism

During our weekend service, we give people the opportunity to participate in water baptism through immersion. Jesus himself was baptized by John the Baptist,  Matthew 3 , although Jesus was without sin. We partake in baptism to represent the death of our old selves as we are born again through the power of Christ.

Nothing can ruin an event faster than feeling out of place; especially when it comes to the clothes we wear. Whether you prefer suits and ties, sweaters and sneakers, or skirts and heels, you're welcome here.

DISCOVER GRACE

Grace is one of those words that we use so much in Christian circles. Grace pays the cost to make us acceptable and redeemable. Grace is the inexhaustible supply of God’s goodness expressed through Him doing for us that which we cannot do for ourselves. We are justified as a gift by God’s grace. In the realm of grace, everyone is welcome, everyone is worthy and everyone is invited to the God life.

You can find parking around the church building.  Additional parking can be found near the snowball stand at the corner of Leila Place and Jefferson Hwy.

Journey Christian Church strives to call people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus and to live out the values and realities of the book of Acts.

Our Leadership

Lead Pastor Pastor Jerry and his wife, Wendy, have been sharing life and ministry together since 1991. They currently reside in Millerstown, PA, have four children, and have served at Journey Christian Church in Thompsontown since 2013.

Brooke Finkbiner

Ministry Coordinator Brooke Finkbiner has been serving as JCC’s Ministry Coordinator since the spring of 2023. Brooke and her husband, Adam, were married in 2020 and currently live in McAlisterville. Brooke enjoys playing piano, hiking, writing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Church Administrator Emma has been the CA at Journey for almost 6 years. She resides in McAlisterville with her husband, Nick, and their 3 daughters. In her spare time she enjoys exercising, eating chocolate, and spending time with her family.
