HELP! Please sign our petition to reinstate the live CCTV traffic camera feeds for the M11

As most of you will have already seen, back in December, National Highways, the government body who control and operate the CCTV cameras on the M11 (and the rest of England) restricted access to their feeds, freezing the images on that date and not allowing third parties like us to give you the access to the latest traffic images you previously enjoyed.

We've been working hard to get this access restored but have unfortunately met with nothing but bureaucratic red tape and a response of "no, because we said so" from National Highways.

Road users in Scotland and Wales don't have this problem; their government bodies put the needs of the public first and have created ways for third-party providers to build fast, helpful services, now used by thousands of UK motorists daily.

The more people that sign, the quicker this can be resolved, so please share!

We have been told by National Highways that the camera feeds for the M11 will be reinstated shortly.

If the images are not updating, please check back later.

Enter a custom name for this camera if required, then click the route you wish to save it to.

Are you sure you wish to remove this camera from ALL routes? If you only wish to remove this camera from a specific route please Cancel, go to the Route in question and remove it from there.

Live m11 traffic news and updates for m11 junctions, plus real time travel reports on delays, accidents, roadworks and snow..

live travel updates m11

The M11 motorway runs from northeast London to Huntingdon before merging with the A1(M) .  It is a vital road for motorists in Essex and Cambridgeshire, providing links to the M25, London and Stansted Airport.  It also serves several large towns such as Harlow, Bishops Stortford and Cambridge. The M11 is home to the UK's longest uninterrupted stretch of motorway between junctions with 15.2 miles between Junction 8 and Junction 9.

On this page we want to help you avoid any possible travel delays with the latest live M11 traffic updates, travel alerts and an incident map.  We have information and updates from the Highways Agency, official police accounts and other traffic news feeds on the latest accidents and roadwork delays. We also have useful list of motorway junctions to help plan your trip…

About the M11

The M11 does not follow convention when it comes to numbering its motorway junctions. There is no Junction 1 and the start of the M11 is actually at Junction 4. There is also only one service station at Junction 8, which serves both the M11 and the busy A120 dual carriageway.

The M11 was recently voted the 7th worst motorway in the country due to the high number of speed cameras, traffic jams and lack of lighting. Accidents and out-dated infrastucture were also on the list of annoyances for motorists on the M11.

History of M11

Construction on the M11 took place in stages, with the first stage being the stretch of road between junction 7 and junction 8. This was completed in 1975, before an extension down to Junction 4 was finished in 1977.  Northbound work on the M11 to Junction 14 finished in 1980 and the whole motorway was opened fully in February of that year.

Due to a tight budget, the motorway between Junctions 7 and 14 was unsurfaced concrete, however, this degraded quickly and in the late 1990’s the whole area was replaced with tarmac. The road resurfacing took until 2008 to complete.

There were plans to open a north-facing M11 junction at Junction 5 but this was abandoned in 1998 with many citing the location of the nearby Bank of England Printing works as reason for the junction’s dismissal, although officials have never confirmed this.

In January 2003, a snowstorm left thousands of motorists stranded for up to 20 hours between Junction 7 and Junction 9. The weather became so severe that many drivers left their vehicles parked on the motorway while 12 lorries jack-knifed, with one blocking the whole carriageway.

There has also been a plane crash on the M11 in June 2002 after the brakes failed on an Aero L-39 Albtratose , which was attemting to land at the Imperial War Museum's Duxford Aerodrome. The jet crashed through the barrier at the end of the runway, skidded across the northbound carriageway before coming to a rest on the southbound carriageway. No vehicles were involved in the accident although the trainee pilot was killed in the crash.

A11 North of Thetford. (About 20 miles) each side of the carriageway

All of Norfolk late 2019/2020/2021 closed for business due to Covid. 2022 National highways decide nearly 3 years with Norfolk and tourism closed to restrict all A11 traffic north of Thetford causing at least additional 60 minute journey times and putting off any tourism and commercial logistics at least another year(great thinking chaps) road works May to November in a holiday destination right after a pandemic and when the area is struggling to recover commercially as well. I take it this will be your last job in the area with this sort of planning and the death of tourism in Norfolk for 2023.

M11 Roadworks

The following roadworks have been reported by various highways agencies and official transport sources.Click on a roadworks item to view more details on the traffic map.

The M11 motorway is a major road in the south-east of England, stretching from the Northern edge of London down to Cambridge. It was first opened in 1975, and its construction was part of a larger improvement project of the A11 road.

The M11 has seen some upgrades since then, including an additional lane in Witham, Essex in 1988 and a further widening of the motorway in 2015.

The motorway is generally considered to be a safe route, with a low number of accidents and fatalities occurring each year. In 2019, there were 396 accidents, causing 430 casualties in total, including 12 fatalities. This has been considerably lower than other major roads in the same area, including the M25 and M4.

Overall, the statistics for the M11 suggest a record of safety and reliability.

London travel news LIVE: Delays hit Underground, Overground and DLR on Friday night

LIVE – Updated at 06:49

Delays have hit multiple Tube lines on the Underground during rush hour on Friday night.

The Victoria line is facing delays after a fire scare at Seven Sisters.

The London Fire Brigade was called to reports of smokes coming from the tracks at the north London Tube station but they did not find anything.

This left the line part suspended from King’s Cross St Pancras to Walthamstow Central on Friday afternoon but this stretch is now running again.

The Hammersmith and City line is also experiencing major delays due to a shortage of trains.

Meanwhile, disruption has hit the Central, Circle, Bakerloo and Metropolitan lines, along with the Overground and the DLR.

Follow live updates below.

Severe delays on Victoria Line

Good morning, and welcome to the Standard’s travel live blog.

It’s bad news this morning for those using the Victoria Line, which is experiencing severe delays due to the late finishing of engineering works.

TfL says there are also minor delays on the Central Line due to the ongoing train shortage, but there is a good service on the rest of the Underground network.

No Southeastern trains from Cannon Street or via Greenwich this weekend

No Southeastern trains will run from London Cannon Street or via Greenwich tomorrow or on Sunday, says National Rail, due to engineering works.

Traffic queuing for three miles after M25 crash

A lane of the M25 anticlockwise is closed in north London following a crash near Potters Bar.

Three miles of traffic is queuing following the collision, which involved a lorry and a car, says traffic monitoring system Inrix.

The traffic is tailing back between junction 25 for the A10 (Enfield) and junction 24 for A111 Stagg Hill (Potters Bar).

Minor delays on Victoria Line

Earlier severe delays on the Victoria Line, caused by late-finishing engineering works, have now been downgraded to minor delays.

The TfL says there are also minor delays on the Central and Bakerloo lines due to a shortage of trains, but a good service on all other lines.

Traffic eases on M25 near Potters Bar following crash

Traffic is moving normally again on the M25 anticlockwise near Potters Bar following this morning’s crash, says traffic monitoring system Inrix.

Minor delays on the Bakerloo line

There are minor delays on the Bakerloo line this morning, Transport for London has said.

A shortage of trains has led to the link experiencing some disruption.

TfL has not said when it expects to resolve the issue.

Weekend closures on the A21

Motorists heading into the south east have been warned about A21 closures into Kent this weekend.

There will be weekend closures in the Tonbridge area from 8pm to 6am with further disruption next week.

Details below.

Traffic had stopped on A2 due to police incident

Traffic has been released on the A2 eastbound in Kent between the A227 (Gravesend) and M2, National Highways has said.

“Delays remain in the area but should start to ease,” a statement added.

On Friday morning, the motoway had been brought to a halt due to a police incident. Long queues then formed.

Delays still being shown on the M25

Data from Inrix shows traffic to still be heavy on the M25 after an earlier crash.

The build up is shown between junctions 10 and 11 after the collision between the car and the lorry.

Central line now reporting minor delays

Minor delays due to train cancellations have now led to the Central line experiencing minor delays - Transport for London has said.

All other lines are now operating a good service.

M25 closed from J27 (M11) to J26 (A121)

The M25 has been closed and traffic is stationary from J27 (Epping / M11) to J26 (A121 / Waltham Abbey).

The incident in north, east London, occured after a crash involving a lorry.

Inrix data shows the traffic has stopped just after the Bell Common Tunnel.

Everything is at a standstill as of 1.10pm.

Disruption on the London Overground

The London Overground is disrupted between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside due to passengers causing a disturbance on a train.

National Rail has warned there could be disruption until 3pm.

Heavy traffic in East London

Heavy traffic is beginning to build in East London, data has shown.

Inrix graphics show that vehicles are moving slowly in East Ham, Beckton and Barking areas.

There has been no associated problem flagged.

M25 now reopen but delays expected

The M25 has now reopened after an earlier crash anticlockwise from J27 (Epping / M11) to J26 (A121/ Waltham Abbey)

This stretch still has congestion to J28 (A12 Brook Street Roundabout) with the opposite side back to J25 (Enfield).

Lanes three and four (of four) remain closed, with recovery under way, Inrix said on Friday around 3pm.

Severe delays on Hammersmith and City line

Severe delays due to train cancellations are currently being felt on the Hammersmith and City line, Transport for London has said.

The entire line from Hammersmith to Barking is marked as impacted.

TfL has not gvien any further detail about the waiting times expected.

Part suspension and severe delays on the Victoria line

Transport for London has said the Victoria line is not running from King’s Cross to Walthamstow Central due to a fire alert at Seven Sisters.

There are severe delays on the rest of the line, south to Brixton.

May wrote on Twitter: “Why is there always some sh*t going on with the Victoria line I just wanna go home.”

Victoria line no longer part suspended

The Victoria line is now running a full service but it is currently severely delayed.

More on the 'fire' at Seven Sisters

The London Fire Brigade said: “Crews responded to reports of smoke issuing from tracks at Seven Sisters Underground Station in Tottenham.

“Firefighters carried out a systematic search of the track and found no signs of fire or smoke.

“The Brigade was called at 3.35pm and the incident was over for firefighters at 4.17pm.”

Severe delays to Circle line

There are currently severe delays due to train cancellations.

Victoria line delays now minor

The delays to the Victoria line, which were severe, are now minor.

DLR part suspended

There is currently no service between Gallions Reach and Beckton while we fix a faulty train at Beckton - good service on the rest of the line.

Minor delays to Overground

There are currently minor delays between Stratford and Richmond due to a person getting ill on a train earlier at Hackney Wick.

Bakerloo line severely delayed

There are currently severe delays between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone while Network Rail fixes a signal failure at Harrow & Wealdstone - good service on the rest of the line.

Bakerloo line now part suspended

There is currently no service between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone while we fix a signal failure at Harrow & Wealdstone - good service on the rest of the line.

Overgound delays now severe

The U.S. issues new travel guidelines, warning that Iran will avenge the killings of senior commanders.

Several countries including the United States have issued new travel guidelines for Israel and the surrounding region, as the Israeli military said its forces were “highly alert” for a possible Iranian strike in retaliation for the killings of several commanders.

Iran has repeatedly vowed to strike back at Israel over the bombing of an Iranian Embassy complex in Damascus, Syria, this month that killed three generals and four other military officers. An American official said on Friday that Washington expects an attack by Iran against Israel that would be bigger than recent attacks in the long shadow war between the two countries, but not so big that it would draw the United States into war. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The U.S. State Department on Thursday barred its employees from traveling to large parts of Israel, the first time the U.S. government had restricted the movement of its employees in this way since the war in Gaza began more than six months ago.

On Thursday, Britain told its citizens that they “should consider leaving” Israel and the Palestinian territories “if it is safe to do so.” On Friday, India told its citizens “not to travel to Iran or Israel till further notice,” while France advised people not to travel to Israel, Iran or Lebanon and evacuated the families of French diplomats from Iran.

Asked about the U.S. travel warning , Matthew Miller, the State Department spokesman, said at a news briefing Thursday: “We have seen Iran making public threats against Israel in the past few days.” He declined to provide details about any specific information that prompted the warning.

The new guidelines bar U.S. government employees and their families from traveling to locations outside the Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beersheba metropolitan areas “out of an abundance of caution” until further notice. The State Department said U.S. personnel could move among those areas for personal travel.

The top American military commander for the Middle East, Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, traveled to Israel to coordinate a response to possible Iranian retaliation, U.S. officials said.

“Our enemies think that they will divide Israel and the United States,” the Israeli defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said in a statement on Friday after meeting with General Kurilla. “They are connecting us and are strengthening the relationship between us.”

If Iran attacks, he added, “we will know how to respond.”

On Thursday, the Israeli military’s chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said that the armed forces were “highly alert and prepared” for any action Iran might take, even as the timing and scale of any response remained unclear. Analysts say that Tehran, which has long used a network of proxy forces to project power across the Middle East, wants to avoid igniting a full-fledged war that could drag in the United States and threaten the survival of Iran’s regime.

“For years, and even more so during the war, Iran has been financing, directing and arming its proxies — in Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, Iraq and Yemen — to attack the state of Israel,” he said. “An attack from Iranian territory would be clear evidence of Iran’s intentions to escalate the Middle East and stop hiding behind the proxies.”

News and Analysis

Within moments of Israel and its allies shooting down a fusillade of Iranian missiles and drones, many began wondering what the exchange would mean for the war in Gaza. Military analysts were divided .

The disappearance and death of an Israeli teenager, whose body was found in the West Bank , spurred deadly rioting by Israeli settlers in Palestinian villages, ratcheting up tensions  even further in the occupied territory.

For months, Western governments have sent weapons to Israel while fending off accusations of abetting war crimes in Gaza. But as an outcry over the civilian death toll mounts, maintaining that balance is becoming increasingly difficult .

Mobilizing the American Left: As the death toll in Gaza climbed, the pro-Palestinian movement grew into a powerful, if disjointed, political force in the United States . Democrats are feeling the pressure.

Riding Rage Over Israel: Jackson Hinkle’s incendiary commentary  has generated over two million new followers on X since October — a surge that some researchers say is aided by inauthentic accounts by the online celebrity.

Psychedelics and Trauma: Thousands of festival-goers were using mind-altering substances when Hamas-led fighters attacked on Oct 7. Now, scientists are studying the effects of such drugs at a moment of trauma .

Turmoil at J Street: The war in Gaza has raised serious concerns within the Jewish political advocacy group about its ability to hold a middle position  without being pulled apart by forces on the right and the left.
