Set amongst riverine figs, African mango and Apple-ring albida trees, the thatched chalets enjoy commanding views of the sweeping flood plains and mighty Zambezi River. Frequented daily by majestic elephants, secretive kudu, buffalo, painted dogs and even lions – all of which often pass through the camp – the wildlife seemingly floats on shimmering heat waves, as they amble to the river to quench their thirsts.
As the only permanent luxury lodge, the facility offers unparalleled Mana Pools accommodation, game viewing and photographic opportunities, with Mana’s light and beauty unmatched anywhere on the African continent.
I loved every moment of being there. Going up and down the rooms and the eating area felt like a good a much needed exercise. Oh the showers were nice too. When there get them to explain what Matusadonha is 😉
Rauhallinen, kaunis lodge, jossa tilavat huoneet ja omat, isot terassit. Näkymä Sambesi-joelle. Lyhyt matka ajoille. Mukava nuotiopaikka, jossa upea tunnelma nauttia vaikka sundownerit. Hyvä ruoka.
Wonderful food and service

A haven for wildlife and walking safaris
Elephants really do stand on their back legs
The elephant bulls are mostly very relaxed
Not a normal visitors position for photographs
Mana Pools National Park
Mana Pools National Park is unique; it's a World Heritage Site. Great for walking and canoeing safaris to view the abundant wildlife, including a healthy elephant population.
After leaving Lake Kariba, the Zambezi River continues east through the huge rift valley, widening and slowing down as it meanders through the Lower Zambezi Valley. It’s flanked by Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park on its north bank, and Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park to the south. Over millennia, the wide and slow Zambezi has changed its course, with the river’s old meanders leaving small oxbow lakes, surrounded by lush vegetation and tall stands of ebony and mahogany trees. Within the national park, these oxbow lakes have created four large pools (‘mana’ being the Shona word for ‘four’, giving the park its name) and these, along with the permanent Zambezi River, provide an abundance of water and greenery which in turn attract a wealth of big game and result in some stunning scenery.

When to go to Mana Pools National Park
Our month by month guide: What it's like to visit Mana Pools in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe in January
January falls in the middle of Zimbabwe’s rainy season and is the wettest month of the year. Heavy rainfall occurs most days, flooding seasonal rivers and waterholes, with the occasional sunny spell. With the high levels of precipitation the wildlife in the national parks becomes widely dispersed, taking advantage of the abundance of food and water, and is easily hidden by the thick, green bush. While sightings of larger animals are possible, and many species drop their young at this time, game viewing is often sparse. However, many migratory species of bird arrive in Zimbabwe making it a peak month for birding. The rains create incredibly sticky mud in Mana Pools National Park, preventing access and causing camps to close for the season. The majority of the camps in other parks remain open, with low rates attracting a smattering of visitors.
- Peak of the rainy season: hot & humid with heavy rain most days
- Bush exceptionally thick and green, with poor game viewing
- Species such as impala drop their young
- All camps in Mana Pools closed
- Very few visitors, and low rates at open camps
A time to avoid if possible
Weather in January
Zimbabwe in February
February remains well within Zimbabwe’s rainy season. Although total rainfall drops, relatively short thunderstorms can still be expected most afternoons. On the plus side, there is a greater chance of some sunshine in-between. Much of the country remains waterlogged, closing access to Mana Pools and severely restricting walking safaris in other parks. While game drives and canoeing remain an option, the abundance of water disperses animals, and thick grass can make it difficult to spot larger species, but birding remains excellent. Conversely, this is a great time of year to view the landscape, and is excellent for photographers. Sporadic cloud cover and clear air can make for some spectacular sunsets too, particularly over Lake Kariba and the Zambezi River where the reflections off the water add to the beauty.
- Generally wet with frequent thunderstorms & hot humid days
- Poor wildlife viewing due to dispersed animals & thick bush
- Clear air, green landscapes & exceptional sunsets
- Very few visitors & low rates at camps that are open
This is not a great time to visit
Weather in February
Zimbabwe in March
March is the final month of Zimbabwe’s rainy season, when the rains start to trail off and sunny days become the norm. However, some days the clouds can still build, breaking into thunderstorms in the afternoon. Mana Pools remains closed throughout the month but the majority of camps in Hwange, Matusadona and Gonarezhou remain open. Here, the landscape is green and alive, with migrant species of birds taking advantage of the abundant insect life. Larger animals remain elusive though, and walking safaris remain restricted. By this time of year, the rains have normally trickled down to the Zambezi River and the flow of water over the Victoria Falls starts to increase, but without kicking up too much spray to obscure the views.
- Last month of the rainy season: hot, humid days with occasional storms
- Lush vegetation means good birding, but poor game viewing
- Views of the Victoria Falls improve
- Open camps have few visitors & low rates
Weather in March
Zimbabwe in April
April marks the end of Zimbabwe’s rainy season and the end of summer. Clear skies are the norm, with just the occasional shower. Temperatures start to drop, failing to reach 30ºC most days and dropping down to around 10ºC at night. As the rain fades the landscape starts to dry out. While the vegetation remains thick and green, the soil in Mana Pools dries enough for camps to open, and the only camps to remain closed are the most remote bushcamps in Hwange. Although viewing of larger animals remains tricky, the improved weather starts to draw back visitors, as do prices significantly below those in the peak season. The Zambezi River and flow of water over the Victoria Falls is at its highest, although large amounts of spray diminish views of the waterfall itself.
- Transitional period, with much lower rainfall & falling temperatures
- Wildlife is still dispersed & hard to see, but sightings improving
- Views of the Victoria Falls often obscured by spray
- Camps in Mana Pools open
- Visitors start to return & camps increase their rates
A good time to visit, with pros & cons
Weather in April
Zimbabwe in May
The first month in the dry season, May is also Zimbabwe’s first month of winter. If the rains are particularly late in a given year, you may catch the odd shower, but you can expect clear and sunny days the majority of the time. While it’s warm in the daytime, temperatures drop to single digits at night, so bring a warm jumper and gloves for early morning drives. With the rain having cleared the air, the sky is bright blue, and it’s the best time of year for photography. Even the most remote camps in Zimbabwe are now open. With the lack of rainfall, vegetation dies back significantly, and seasonal rivers return to sand. Not only does this open up the possibility of walking safaris, but wildlife viewing becomes much more reliable.
- Start of the dry season, with milder days and cold nights
- Game viewing significantly improves as vegetation dies back
- Vegetation starts to turn from green to brown
- Best time for photography with crystal clear air
- Visitors start to return; all camps open & rates increasing
A very good time to visit
Weather in May
Zimbabwe in June
During June you can virtually be guaranteed of dry and sunny days, although temperatures continue to drop, and can get close to freezing at night in Hwange National Park. Jumpers, jackets and gloves are strongly recommended for early mornings and evenings. The opportunities for wildlife viewing improve throughout the month as the landscape rapidly dries, and the animals start to gather on the banks of the Zambezi River and around Hwange’s waterholes. Water levels in the Zambezi River start to drop, reducing the amount of spray kicked up at the Victoria Falls and greatly improving visibility, but still allowing a full curtain of water to cascade over the edge.
- Middle of winter, with night-time temperatures close to freezing
- Game viewing significantly improves throughout the month
- Views of the Victoria Falls are at their best
- Noticeable increase in visitor numbers
- Camps considerably more expensive
Weather in June
Zimbabwe in July
July sits in the middle of Zimbabwe’s dry season. Although it’s warm at midday, temperatures are generally cold and in Hwange it’s been known to drop below freezing at night, with the lower-altitude Mana Pools feeling a bit warmer. With wildlife clustering around the few remaining waterholes, sparse vegetation, and some of the best views of the Victoria Falls, this is one of the most popular times to travel, with camps charging peak season rates to reflect this. That said, visitor numbers to the country in general remain low, and outside of the Victoria Falls it’s rare for any areas to feel crowded.
- Middle of the dry season with almost no chance of rain
- Clear sunny days, but very cold nights
- Wildlife viewing good; game drives and walking safaris unrestricted
- Views of the Victoria Falls at their best
- Camps charging peak season rates
Weather in July
Zimbabwe in August
While August is the end of winter and temperatures are starting to creep up, mornings and nights are still cold, and game drives in open vehicles can feel particularly chilly. Well into the dry season, the landscapes will have mostly transformed from green to brown and wildlife viewing in Zimbabwe’s national parks is approaching its best. Due to dust kicked up into the atmosphere and smoke from bush fires you may start to notice a haze on the horizon, but this doesn’t significantly impact photography. August is one of the most expensive months, and the pleasant weather and decent game viewing attracts lots of visitors. While the national parks rarely feel crowded, Victoria Falls accommodation can sell out a year in advance.
- Warm, sunny days but cold mornings & nights; almost no chance of rain
- Wildlife viewing nearly at its best
- Landscape turns brown, & an atmospheric haze develops
- All camps charging peak season rates
Fantastic: the very best time to visit
Weather in August
Zimbabwe in September
Temperatures in September rarely drop below 15ºC, but are yet to reach the oppressive highs of summer. It will normally have been five months since the last drop of rain, so antelope and elephants cluster around whatever water remains, with predators never too far away. The landscape is very brown, and the haze building on the horizon takes some of the colour out of the sky, so while animal subjects are plentiful, the background is not ideal for photography. The combination of incredible wildlife viewing, hot and sunny weather, and cheaper flights outside of the school holidays make this the most popular time of year to travel, and availability at the camps can become limited up to a year in advance.
- The best month for weather, with a pleasantly warm temperature range
- One of the best months for game viewing
- Victoria Falls starting to dry but still impressive on Zimbabwean side
- All camps are charging peak season rates
- Most popular time to travel, & space can be limited
Weather in September
Zimbabwe in October
October is the last month of the dry season with little chance of rain but building humidity. While the higher elevation of Hwange National Park limits temperatures to the 30s Celsius, they can easily top 40ºC in Mana Pools. With little vegetation or water, wildlife is drawn to the few remaining water sources and viewing is at its best; visitors who brave the heat can be rewarded with some exceptional sightings, although haze in the air diminishes photos. Maximum visibility and dense wildlife concentrations can also make for very rewarding walking safaris, although the heat can make them uncomfortable. Water levels in the Zambezi at the Victoria Falls drop significantly, and large stretches of the waterfall are a dry cliff-face – although it never dries completely. Camp rates remain at their peak, but visitor numbers drop as people avoid the heat.
- Last month of the dry season; very hot with building humidity
- Wildlife viewing at its very best
- Dust & smoke in the air diminish photographic opportunities
- Victoria Falls starting to look very dry
- Camp rates remain at their peak
Weather in October
Zimbabwe in November
November is a transitionary period, with high temperatures and humidity. While they can’t be predicted with any precision, the first rains normally arrive halfway through the month, in the form of thunderstorms lasting a few hours each day. Early November is a popular time to travel as the camps drop their rates, so if you’re lucky you can get peak-season game viewing at low-season rates. This is a gamble though as if the rains do arrive, animals are no longer limited to a few dangerous waterholes and will disperse into the bush. While all the camps in Mana Pools intend to remain open, the rains can make the airstrips unusable so you may find yourself moved to a different park, a risk that increases through the month.
- Typically the start of the rains in Zimbabwe
- Temperatures & humidity levels remain high
- Wildlife viewing rapidly diminishes as the rains arrive
- Camps remain open, but risk early closure in Mana Pools
- Much cheaper time to travel as camps drop their rates
Weather in November
Zimbabwe in December
By December the rainy season has begun in earnest; this is one of the wettest months in Zimbabwe, with heavy thunderstorms most afternoons and occasionally continuous rain for a couple of days. While temperatures start to cool down the high levels of humidity can make the heat feel more oppressive. With the rains comes an explosion of green growth, and the dust and smoke are washed out of the air. The resulting scenery – with the occasional bright blue skies – can be fantastic for photographers. Thick vegetation and plentiful water makes viewing of larger animals tricky, but with migratory species arriving the birding is at its best. All camps in Mana Pools and the remote Hwange camps close, with those remaining open charging their lowest rates.
- One of the wettest months in Zimbabwe
- High temperatures & levels of humidity
- Wildlife viewing poor, but birding good
- Lush green landscapes & clear air; great for landscape photography

Mana Pools lies at the heart of a the hugely important cross-border Lower Zambezi Conservation Area.
The scenery is magnificent, centred on the mighty Zambezi River and its extensive floodplains.
The meandering waters deposit rich nutrients, giving rise to luscious grasslands and impressive ebony forests.
Large numbers of herbivores include elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and hippos.
Predators include good numbers of lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and crocodiles
Perhaps most excitingly, Mana Pools is a very strong area for wild-dogs.
Vehicle safari is offered by all camps, often punctuated by picnics and sundowners.
Mana Pools is one of the very best locations for walking safari in all Africa.
Some of the guides have been here for decades and have personal relationships with individual elephants and other animals.
Another real highlight is canoe safari on the Zambezi, which can also get rather exciting at times.
A few camps are also able to offer more sedate motorboat safari.
A few camps are able to offer high quality night vehicle safari, which is pretty unusual these days.
Mana Pools contains a dozen good camps, all of which are pretty authentic.
Access is usually by light aircraft from Victoria Falls, Hwange or Harare.
The area is usually best for wildlife during the May-Oct dry season, but there are good reasons to visit during other months.
The main potential downsides are the high prices, the outdoorsy nature of most camps and the more challenging conditions during Oct-Apr.

Mana pools, zimbabwe, safari date, 18 oct – 26 oct 2024 fully booked (marlon du toit) 23 oct - 31 oct 2025 (marlon du toit), explore mana pools safari.
Would you believe that a place exists where you get to view wildlife in a completely new & unique manner, away from the standard safari vehicles that have become to norm in most African safari destinations? In Mana Pools, this dream has come to life, a world where you feel like you are connected to earth and nature like none other can offer. Mana strips away the barriers between people and wildlife and affords you the opportunity to view and photograph wildlife on foot, away from the vehicle, up close & personal.
Imagine sitting at the feet of a giant elephant as he feeds on a large Ana Tree, or photographing wild dogs on the move whilst lying flat down on your belly. It does not get any better than this. Because it’s always been the norm to approach wildlife on foot in Mana Pools, the resident animals have habituated to this experience and therefore tolerate the presence of humans much like they would that, of a game viewer.
The last 2 days in Mana will be spent further inland from the river, at Kanga Pan. This is an experience you simply never will forget. Kanga is unlike any other camp in Africa. The last remaining water in the region draws all wildlife right to your doorstep. The waterhole is so abundant with life & activity throughout the day, that there’s almost no need to venture out on game drive. Kanga is best explored with a drink in hand on the deck of the camp, allowing the wildlife and experiences to come to you.
This safari will showcase Mana Pools to you across 8 days. We are extremely familiar with the region and you’ll be in the very best hands from beginning to end. The forest is one of the most beautiful African landscapes you’ll ever encounter. It changes mood & colour by the hour, starting out rich and blue, before turning into a golden canvas after sunrise. You can photograph here well into the morning as the light holds its special colors through most of the day. An enchanted forest, some would say. It’s magnificent.
The on-foot encounters with lions, wild dogs, buffalo, elephants, and more are moments you’ll always remember. There’s just nothing else like this. To watch them from close proximity allows you the opportunity to get to know them intimately. You feel alive and every sense within your body is hard at work – listening, smelling, and feeling all around you. It’s incredible and hard to describe in mere words.
Come and join us in Mana Pools and enjoy an encounter with nature that’ll leave you feeling whole, inspired, and ready to come back for more. There’s nothing else like this in all of Africa!
Arrival day, from Harare to Mana Pools
The safari kicks off from Harare, Zimbabwe. Please connect with us to arrange any travel/accommodation prior to this point.
A morning flight to Mana Pools will end at Zambezi Expeditions Camp. The flight time is around 1hr 30 minutes. Once on the ground, we will be transferred by road to our camp for the next 5 nights. The drive to camp is approximately 40 minutes and will be through game-rich areas where you'll get your first taste of Mana before you even arrive at the camp itself.
These will be special full days on safari in Mana Pools, on the incredibly scenic floodplain. Mornings will begin early as we gather for coffee before the first light. You'll likely be awake long before the camp calls you due to all of the hippos honking in the Zambezi River, only a few meters away from your spacious tent. Each day will consist of two safari outings with a keen focus on first and last light. There's much to see in between and time will be well spent, but Mana truly shows off during sunrise and sunset, unlike any other park in Africa.
In Mana Pools, many of the wildlife encounters can be enjoyed on foot. Since the park's inception, animals have grown used to seeing people walking on foot. It's what makes this national park so special. Through expert, responsible guiding we will get you closer to wildlife than what you've ever been. There's a chance of sitting next to and walking with elephants, lions, wild dogs and even buffalo herds. It's something you will never forget and cherish for a lifetime. It's the kind of place and experience you'll wish to return to, before you've even left.
Travel day to Kanga Camp
On this day we will leave camp with our bags packed. We will head out for a full morning safari and after our leg stretch and coffee stop, will meet up with our bags as well as a vehicle that will transport us to our new camp - Kanga.
The drive to Kanga will showcase more of Mana's interior to you, give you a glimpse of what you've been missing as well as what you'll get to see over the next 2 days. Upon arrival at camp you'll settle in, have lunch and also enjoy the most amazing experience. The camp is built on Kanga Pan, one of the last remaining waterholes in the region. You'll likely be greeted by elephants drinking from below the lunch deck, an incredible sight and moment to remember.
Kanga Camp, Mana Pools
Enjoy one full day of safari at Kanga Camp, Mana Pools.
The best way to experience Kanga Camp & it's waterhole is to wait for wildlife to come for a drink. It's one of the last remaining waterholes in the region and it's very active during Sept & Oct each year. Animals are always around and range from elephants, buffalo, impala, kudu, baboons, zebra and a wealth of birdlife. There's always something to see and photograph at the Pan. What's so great about it. is that you truly get a birds-eye view of what it would be like to spend a day at an African waterhole, to see the ebb & flow of wildlife coming & going.
The camp is best experienced from the comfortable lodge deck, drink in hand and camera by your side. It's not uncommon for predators to arrive for a drink during the early evening or during dinner.
Departure Day - back to Harare
We'll leave camp packed & ready to depart. After a morning safari activity, we'll arrive at the airstrip & depart for Harare, signaling the end of the safari experience.
If you would like more information on this trip, please provide us your name and e-mail and we’ll gladly send you a brochure.

Little Vundu Camp is outstanding as it has the magic touch…
This time we stayed at 'Little Vundu' which is fantastic and how a bush safari should be, very few tents which makes it a very intimate stay. Everything about this camp we loved. The level of guiding is superb at Bushlife Safaris (on both our trips here), and we must say the best we have encountered on all our safaris, this was one of the many reasons for returning. The views are excellent with the Zambezi river running by the camp. The food delicious and presented superbly. The staff were outstanding with personal attention to what we wanted to see and do. The whole management team are excellent. Siraaj, was excellent guide and certainly knows how to make a superb G&T!

Vundu Camp is the best!
It was my second time to Vundu Camp with Bushlife Safaris and it was spectacular again! There’s always something new to see on safari, and the staff are wonderful and very knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the tents are great! We didn’t want to leave when it was time to go. I highly recommend going on Safari with Bushlife Safaris. They are the best!
The best service we’ve experienced by far!
It’s the little things in life that count, and the managers of this Safari camp go the extra mile…..from asking you whether you’d prefer to go on game drives, walks or boat trip and even making us fresh coffee and a pack up lunch on the day of our departure. The knowledge of the rangers is world class and we came away feeling enriched from our trip. The attention to detail in everything that they do made this trip a wow factor on our two month trip through Southern Africa. Thank you team Vundu!

One of Earth’s most beautiful and authentic safari destinations, Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park will leave you breathless.
The untamed wilderness of Mana Pools National Park
Drift. Splash. Listen. Canoe down the Zambezi with the rising sun. Spot hippos bobbing to the surface while ghostly elephants drift through the cathedral-like trees, and a bright red flurry of carmine bee-eaters dazzles on the riverbank upstream. As the sun sets and the evening campfires start, listen to the local lore. Tales of river gods, guarding the land, while in the distance a lion roars.

Safari in Zimbabwe’s great wilderness
Our camps in mana pools national park.
Mana Pools National Park is set in the heart of the Lower Zambezi Valley, where Africa’s fourth-largest river meanders along Zimbabwe’s northern border on its way to the Indian Ocean. Little Ruckmoechi and Ruckomechi camps lie in a private wilderness area at the western end of Mana Pools. Luxurious Chikwenya sits on the eastern boundary of the park, also overlooking the Zambezi River.
Why is the park called Mana Pools?
Mana means ‘four’ in one of Zimbabwe’s official languages, Shona. The park was named for the four large permanent pools left inland by the meanderings of the Zambezi River.
What animals are found at Mana Pools?
Impressive concentrations of elephant, buffalo, eland, kudu, impala, waterbuck, monkeys, zebra, warthogs and hippo, as well as predators such as lion, leopard, spotted hyena, wild dog and cheetah occur. Plus over 450 species of birds.
When is the best time to visit Mana Pools in Zimbabwe?
The drier months are best for wildlife viewing in Mana National Park. Animals are easier to spot as they congregate along the Zambezi’s banks, and the water sources on the floodplains. Our camps are closed during the summer season.
Where is Mana Pools located?
Mana Pools National Park is located in the Lower Zambezi Valley.
What should I pack for a safari in Mana Pools?
Morning and evening game drives can be cool, but the afternoons are usually warm, so it’s best to dress in layers. A hat is essential and bring closed shoes if you intend to go on walks.
What can you do at Mana Pools?
Abundant wildlife viewing. Most activities are centred around the Zambezi River. You can choose from canoeing or boat safaris, catch-and-release fishing, birdwatching, game drives and guided walking safaris.
Where to stay in Mana Pools National Park?
Wilderness has three luxury safari camps at Mana Pools. Little Ruckomechi and its larger sister camp Ruckomechi are set in a private wilderness area on the western boundary of the park. Luxurious Chikwenya is found on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools, also overlooking the Zambezi.
What is Mana Pool National Park in Zimbabwe known for?
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mana Pools National Park in northern Zimbabwe is one of the most remote safari parks in the country, known for its scenic beauty, exceptional wildlife, huge concentration of elephants, and exceptional canoeing and walking safaris.

A rugged UNESCO world heritage site
Situated in the northern region of Zimbabwe, on the southern banks of the Zambezi River, Mana Pools National Park will leave you breathless with its beauty. A paradise for walking and canoeing safaris, Mana Pools is a wildlife-rich, biodiverse wonderland that will delight at every turn.
You can expect to spot hippopotamus, crocodile, elephants and a wonderful array of aquatic birds within this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there’s a good chance of seeing lioness’ hunting around waterholes, where prey are seemingly easy pickings.
The landscapes are beautiful too, dotted with acacia trees, whose shade becomes vital to the parks’ more than 12,000-strong elephant population in the dry season, as well as a sprinkling of vibrant plant life. Far away from any human settlement, you’ll relish the feeling of remoteness here. Surrounded only by extreme wilderness, and if you visit in winter, you’ll find yourself exploring amongst the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa. An experience for which words can do no justice.

Places For Pleasant Recreation in Moscow Region
We suggest you a review of sanatoriums, hotels, lodges and guesthouses around the capital. Moscow region has a big variety of places for rest and these are the most noteworthy of them.
YAKOR GUESTHOUSE
Almost like an American motel, but situated at the Oka River
There are: equipment for winter sports, a massage salon, a beauty shop, a bath-sauna with a sweating room and a font, billiards, karaoke. Things to do: go to Tarusa, visit the House-Museum of Tsvetaeva’s family, the Musatovsky slope, memorable places connected with Paustovsky.
Yakor is arranged by principles of an American motel. Rooms are clean; there is a shower, TV, towels, and heat if it is necessary. In some rooms, you will also find a refrigerator. Almost full size wooden fishes act as key charms. In warm season, you can buy cheap fruits, vegetables and flowers in a nearby shop.
If you want to have some cultural adventures, you can go to Tarusa or visit a place where Marina Tsvetaeva wanted to be buried. In addition, there opens a wonderful view over Oka River with its fogs and plains.
Tarusa, Decembrists Street, 4 +7 48435 2 55 81 tarusa-yakor.ru
The price of a double room starts from 1250 rubles (€12.55).
NIKOLA-LENIVETS
«Beaubourg», «Lighthouse» and other land-art objects in the park: romanticism in a spirit of «The True Detective»
There are: a kitchen-dining room with three meals a day, sledges, ice-boats, skis and snow-scooters, a Russian bath, hootch and other gifts of local farmers. Things to do: walk around art objects.
It is ok to go to Nicola-Lenivets in any tome of the year. In winter, art objects look differently, than in summer. Houses in Koltsovo are very warm; you will find valenoki in each of them- to change your footwear in case of a bad weather. Directly near the porch of the house, guests can take sledges and iceboats and go riding to «Lighthouse». It is possible to order skis. The bathhouse costs 1500 rubles (€15.06) per hour.
Kaluga region, Kiyevskoye Highway, Nikola-Lenivets +7 499 504 43 33 www .nikola-lenivets.com
Prices start from 1300 rubles (€13.05) for a place in hostel; double rooms in Koltsovo cost about 1600 rubles (€16.06).
A health resort, turned from the XIX century estate into the President’s Office Health Resort with unexpectedly democratic prices
There are: a Russian bath and a modern Spa center with pearl bathtubs and other delicacies, medical services with a decent choice of experts and procedures, massage, a pool, a fitness club, a sports hall, a skating rink, a music hall where classic musicians perform from time to time. Things to do: go to the New Jerusalem Monastery, the Museum of Wooden Architecture or find a park grotto in Rozhdestveno that looks exactly like a hobbit dwelling.
The place has gone through some repairs recently and became very modern. It has fine communications, billiards, a big beautiful dining room, summer outdoor café and a beautiful view of local architecture. It is possible to order lunches previously in a day in the dining room. However, service is a little Soviet. To diversify food, you can go to one of four restaurants at the territory. Besides, it is possible to prepare a barbecue on coals. For entertainment, you can ride a bicycle through the paths or go to a swimming pool – an outdoor one during summer or indoor during cold season. The most important winter entertainments are tubing (there is a hill with an elevator), skis and skating. Pleasantly, that Snegiri’s territory is huge, so the place does not look crowded even in high season.
Moscow region, Istrinsky district, Rozhdestveno village, Southern Street, 20 +7 495 994 76 32 www.do-snegiri.ru
The price starts from 1500 rubles (€15.06) for a room.
BEKASOVO SPA HOTEL
The new cottage territory at the old rest house — it is ideal for team buildings, but will also be good for a romantic weekend
There are: a Spa center, a wellness-center, a skating rink, a pool, table tennis, a sensor room, a gym. Things to do: examine squirrels in the wood, participate in cultural actions and master classes on decoupage or barbecue; there are also special programs on holidays.
Rooms here are usual, with an easy Soviet fleur. The main surprise is food – a buffet with a great variety of Russian dishes: Russian salad, coulibiac, ‘Herring under a Fur Coat’. There is a nice pool and a good choice of different cosmetic procedures. The territory is really big, beautiful and worth having long walks – there is a wood and a lake.
Moscow region, Naro Fominsk +7 495 992 04 37 www.bekasovo.ru
The price of a double room starts from 2400 rubles (€24.10).
VERETYEVO ART ESTATE
