REVIEW + PHOTOS: Monsters of Rock Cruise 2019 (2020 On Sale Now!) | Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas

by Randy Cook • May 3, 2019

Unlike the 2018 cruise where my friend Mike and I booked just days before departure, for the 2019 Monsters of Rock Cruise (MoRC) my brother-in-law John and I booked the minute the alumni booking opened up. With John having heard my stories of how much fun I had, seeing my photos from last year’s cruise and another solid line up of bands initially announced, we knew we were in for one hell of a fun and rock filled week – we just had a very patient eight month wait for the adventure to arrive.

While I had held out hope that the two bands I discovered and thoroughly enjoyed from last year’s cruise would be added to the already kick-ass lineup, they were announced as playing on separate nights for the two pre-party events held at the Magic City Casino in Miami. Now when you’re going to a casino chiefly to listen to some music acts, should you be playing casino games as well? Well… why can’t you do both? Doing so will make for a great night out, that’s for sure! Rock with cards is a great combination – and if you’re too tired to hit the casino floor, there are plenty of online casinos to play on in bed. Both Beasto Blanco and The Iron Maidens totally blew me away on last year’s cruise and I was eager for more.

The drive to Miami was uneventful, thankfully and the hotel we strategically selected had a very convenient shuttle to the casino for the show. We were excited to put all those hours on Lennus ( www.lennus.com ) to good use at the casino. However, we were more excited about the show. Among those in the crowd, myself included, there was serious eager anticipation in the air for both The Iron Maidens this evening and the cruise the next day. As soon as these very talented ladies took the stage they ripped note for note into Iron Maiden’s classic “Aces High”. These magical musical tunes were like pouring fuel onto a fire as the crowd simply went wild and never let up their energy, nor did the band through a nine song set list which included several of my all-time favorite Iron Maiden songs. I wish The Iron Maidens would have been the headliner instead of the opening band as we would have been treated to a longer set but I was just thankful for having experienced them live for my fourth time.

After the band was finished we met up with my friend Ben who I met on last year’s cruise and kept in touch with. We hung out for a little bit until the Iron Maidens came down to the merchandise area for pictures and autographs with the fans. The whole time since arriving at the casino I had been keeping my eye out for any and all of the Beasto Blanco band members figuring they would be there as well having played the night before and a show scheduled the next night close by in south Florida. And when I wasn’t thinking about them or keeping an eye out for them at the casino, I was putting my new found gambling skills to the test by signing up to this mega888 agent to gain access to a variety of different casino games and win big money. At least I was making an effort to blend in with my surroundings. I mean, it is no surprise that people love the casino, on and offline, I was reading an article recently about why people love to go on the slot machines – https://www.gamezoom.net/artikel/Why_Slots_Are_Dominating_The_Gambling_Market-46634 , it was pretty interesting to read!

Ben, his sister, John, and I decided to forego the rest of the pre-party show and seek out nourishment. We took the shuttle back to the hotel and walked to a nearby restaurant. Wouldn’t you know that just as we were finishing our meal in walks the entire Beasto Blanco band and their entourage. It was certainly a metal and memorable moment but no way was I going to break one of the unspoken cardinal rules I had learned on prior rock cruises. You do not disturb an artist while they are eating. The whole cruise is based on and encourages fan interaction with the band members but they are people too, they too need to eat and it is just not polite.

The day of finally arrives and John and I make our way down to the cruise port. As we queued up in the line to board inside of the terminal, three of the many members of ‘Thee Rock N’ Roll Residency’ started an impromptu acoustical sing-along jam. I made mention to John that this was just the beginning of the rock and he and I sat down and started to review the band schedule for the days ahead. Just like last year there were timing conflicts of literally too much to do and not being able to be in two places at once with bands playing at near the same time where decisions would have to be made as to which band you wanted to see more than another. Several songs later and to even more applause than the jam got the ship opened for boarding and our adventure truly began.

The MoRC is all about enjoying and embracing the brotherhood/sisterhood all guests on-board share as live music fans and the cruise is one big immersive experience interacting with other guests, the band members and their entourage, for me the other photographers, and of course rocking out to a plethora of available shows. On a cruise like this you never know who you are going to be sitting next to in the dining areas or sharing an elevator with. Once again the encounters we had with the artists were just too numerous to list all of them out but one interaction stands out tall above the rest.

Just like on last year’s MoRC, Rick Allen, the drummer for the recently Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Def Leppard, has a display gallery on-board of his artwork. I do recall wandering in there a couple of times last year out of curiosity and certainly admiring his talent with an artist’s brush. Knowing that John is a rather accomplished painter in his own rights I made sure to mention that we needed to go visit the gallery. I think it was either our second or third trip in there when we were having another browse of the paintings and artwork when I look over and motion to John to look over and see who was just chilling in a chair just talking to people as if they were his family. “Dude it is Rick freaking Allen” says John and he strolls on over and strikes up a conversation asking how long Rick has been painting. Without a pause Rick stands up puts a hand on John’s shoulder and says “Ever since I was a child.” That was the beginning of a very spirited, passionate and fascinating conversation about painting techniques, brush strokes, and the common bond between those sharing common interests. As much as I wanted to ask if I could snap a photo of John and Rick together I did not want to ruin the genuineness of the moment that Rick took as much time as he did to converse with us as if he had known us since his first time painting.

Once again this year I made several new acquaintances from the pool of other media approved photographers and rekindled friendships from several others who I had met aboard last year. I thought it was the coolest thing ever to have a couple of the staff photographers not only remember me but also by name!

John and I both want to give a big shout out to the crew behind the scenes and all of the venue security people who do their utmost to accommodate the crowd’s desire to get into the venues as soon as possible. It is the people you do not see who make this whole thing happen and we are grateful for what was once again the funnest week ever!

This year’s cruise was on the same class of ship and had the exact same deck plan layout as last year’s MoRC so it did not take much time to acclimate myself to the routes I remembered as being the fastest in between the different venues aboard. As John and I roamed the ship before any of the festivities started the one big difference I noticed this year was a massive stage on the pool deck that literally dwarfed the one I remembered from the year before. After a quick lunch we settled in for our first show in the ship’s two level theater as Lies, Deceit & Treachery kicked off the first of what turned out to total FIFTY shows that I saw over the five days and nights aboard. After the mandatory safety drill we were finally underway with old school cold blooded Kix rocking the pool deck stage as we left Miami in the distance.

Departing Miami – Kix rocking the pool deck as I took this

The night just continually kicked ass from there as the mighty Queensrÿche took to the theater stage, then it was off to see sets by Vixen, Mach 22, Danger Danger, Faster Pussycat (and their already MoRC historically infamous poolside bash), Killer Dwarfs, Eclipse, and Jetboy. Surely the tone was set for what would be an epic four more days as once again like last year I had already discovered some killer bands and music that I had not been familiar with prior to the cruise. This day I was most blown away by Eclipse – hailing out of Sweden, they had a huge and faithful following who showed up in strong support at the midnight hour when the band took the stage. Wow did this band freaking ROCK!

Vocalist Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse

Breakfast conversation for day two was enthusiastic between John and I at just how killer the first day had been then turned to excitement at the schedule ahead for the day. This was a day at sea and also our first opportunity to attend the band meet and greet photo opportunities. The night before we had that ‘cannot be in two places at once decision’ and opted to skip the first of the band photo sessions. As the people watcher I am, as much as I enjoy my opportunity to shake hands with the band members and throw the horns as we take the photo, I also enjoy the moments where I see the real hardcore fans of any given band really appreciating and embracing the moment of getting to meet some of their musical idols. Ben had mentioned to me after the act that when he got the chance to meet Udo (Dirkschneider, of the band U.D.O.) which for him, it was like meeting one of The Beatles as Udo is such a legend in heavy metal history.

Brian Howe kicked off the music for us this day, intermixing Bad Company songs with some funny stories of his life’s adventures along his musical career. XYZ totally rocked the pool deck stage, and Pink Cream 69 nearly brought the ship to a tilt tearing up the theater stage. A second Vixen show in two days, and then it was time for my first ever Skid Row show. I caught the second Mach 22 show (these guys were really kick ass, one of my new band discoveries from the day before) and then was on my way to the pool deck for Lies, Deceit & Treachery once again. I squeezed in most of the Faster Pussycat set between the musical highlights of day two for me, Tom Keifer Band, and U.D.O.

U.D.O. absolutely shredding

For our third day aboard once again breakfast talk resumed with the same enthusiasm as the day before. Killer shows once again had been seen and more were ahead on the schedule. In fact this day we visited Ocho Rios, Jamaica, but the schedule ahead was so jam packed with band photos and shows that we opted to remain on-board and not even step foot in this tropical paradise.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Tora Tora hit the stage for us first, followed by a blistering set by Femme Fatale. Extreme took the pool stage as we departed paradise and rocked the boat to near tipping point. Tesla absolutely rocked the house in the theater and had everyone on their feet cheering them on as they are the unofficial ‘house band’ aboard, being veterans of multiple headliner stints on-board MoRC over the years. Next up was guitar virtuoso Richie Kotzen who can simply make magic with is axe. We then were off to see and hear the BulletBoys outside on the pool desk stage and then shows by Kix, Y&T, and Saxon. For as many kick-ass bands as I had seen this day the musical highlight for me was Matalichi, a metal mariachi band. They played after the midnight hour out on the pool stage and man what a treat seeing this band was. As a lifelong born and bred metalhead it was pure joy to hear some of my favorite metal songs played in such a style and delivered with such comedic intent that the result was probably the funnest hour long set I experienced on this year’s cruise.

Our fourth day began as the prior two had. It was another day of having a tropical getaway at our fingertips yet again the daily schedule was packed full enough there was just no time to take in all the shows and everything this experience has to offer AND get in some beach time on the Isle of Labadee. U.D.O. was my first show of the day and that led to my first ever experience with Rose Tattoo. This time as we departed land Tesla took to the pool stage and picked up right where they left off in the theater the day before. It was during this set where I got my signature photo for this cruise with guitarist Franks Hannon looking like his hair was on fire with it blowing in the breeze and a stage light behind him.

Frank Hannon of Tesla on fire

The Tom Keifer Band, Y&T, Saxon, Metalichi, The Quiorboys, Richie Kotzen, and Tora Tora rounded out who all I saw the rest of the evening, with each of those bands being their second and final performance aboard so I did my best to savor every note and moment.

Our last day at breakfast was met with a hint of sadness in that it was almost over but yet there was still a full day of some serious rock ahead and I did not want it to end. The day was filled with non-stop rock as after Michael Grant and The Assassins took to the pool stage once again crisscrossing the boat back and forth to the various venues I spent the day rocking out to shows by Extreme, Eclipse, The Quiorboys, Black ‘N Blue, BulletBoys, Femme Fatal, Brian Howe, and the next thing I know we are taking photo positions for what would be the final show I would see – Queensrÿche took the stage to an overflow crowd and we all embraced the awesomeness that we all had just experienced after five days of non-stop rock and roll and the comradery between friends, new and old.

Queensrÿche

Just like last year I can say that the entire trip was a blast. Counting the pre-party I got to see fifty one sets over a six day period – how kick ass is that. John did not keep track of who all he saw but I know his show count was not far behind mine. Once again I discovered bands that rocked that I had not been familiar with prior and once again new friendships were made for both John and I. As I write this we are anxiously awaiting the initial information on bands and alumni booking dates so we can get our reservation in for next year’s Monsters of Rock Cruise. \m/

I’d like to go for the inaugural “Dunk Mark Torien Competition” by Lies, Deceit, and Treachery!

Pat Travers is a name I haven’t heard in a while. Glad to see he’s still at it.

Awesome to see Rose Tattoo as part of the lineup. Great, way underrated AC/DC style band.

Would love to go to this, but can only dream about. Eclipse is the sleeper act to check out, IMO. They are really good. Just saw Saxon the other night supporting Priest. They surprised me, good show. The whole lineup is cool.

About the festival headliner - Queensrÿche

Queensrÿche performing at the Sauna Open Air Metal Festival on June 11, 2011, in Tampere, Finland. Left to right: bassist Eddie Jackson, lead vocalist Geoff Tate, drummer Scott Rockenfield and guitarist Michael Wilton. Queensrÿche /ˈkwiːnzraɪk/ is an American heavy metal band. It formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington out of the local band the Mob. The band has released 15 studio albums, one EP, several DVDs, and continues to tour and record. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Geoff Tate, guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield. Queensrÿche has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including over 6 million albums in the United States. The band received worldwide acclaim after the release of their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which is often considered one of the greatest heavy metal concept albums of all time. Their follow-up release, Empire, released in 1990, was also very successful and included the hit single "Silent Lucidity". The band has received three Grammy Award nominations for songs from both albums. In 1998, drummer Rockenfield received an individual Grammy nomination. In 1997, guitarist and primary songwriter DeGarmo left the band for personal reasons. Over the years, his replacements have been Kelly Gray, Mike Stone, and Parker Lundgren. Following a highly publicized backstage altercation before a show in São Paulo, Brazil, in April 2012, Tate was fired from the band and replaced with then-Crimson Glory singer Todd La Torre. In response to his dismissal, Tate and his wife Susan (who served as the band's manager from 2005–2012) filed a lawsuit in a Washington court, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. The ruling in the preliminary injunction was that both parties were allowed to use the name Queensrÿche until a court ruling or a settlement decides who gets to use the name. A settlement was reached on April 17, 2014, in which founding members Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson were awarded the rights to the band trademark, continuing to play with the lineup that additionally includes singer La Torre and guitarist Lundgren. During the time both parties could use the name Queensrÿche, Tate created his own lineup featuring former guitarist Gray and musicians from bands including Blue Öyster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Dio, AC/DC and Quiet Riot. This version of Queensrÿche with Geoff Tate released the album Frequency Unknown on 23 April 2013, while Queensrÿche (with La Torre replacing Tate) released their eponymous album on 24 and 25 June 2013 (European and American release date, respectively). Both bands toured in 2013 and 2014.

2019 MONSTERS OF ROCK CRUISE: 2/23/19 – 3/1/19

monsters of rock cruise 2019

Cherry Officially Popped!

I am no longer a “MORC Virgin”. WillToRock set sail on it’s (Iron) Maiden voyage with thousands of music loving Monsters on the 9 th Annual “Monsters Of Rock Cruise”.

monsters of rock cruise 2019

I had no idea what to expect. But whatever my level of excitement was…the reality was exceeded.

From the Amazing “Mariner Of The Seas” Ship, setting foot in Ocho Rios, Jamaica (“Do you want a taxi and a gram, mon?”) and Labadee, Haiti, to the incredible people I got to meet and spend time with…and of course…THE BANDS.

monsters of rock cruise 2019

I will say this up front, I’ve listed as many show recaps and points of interest as I could remember (I’m old and my brain doesn’t cooperate like it used to), but if you’re looking for highly critical show reviews on the cruise, you can stop here. There were no bad performances.  There were glitches here and there and some people may have had an off night or moment, but being on this cruise isn’t about delivering a pristine, career defining show.  It’s about being part of a huge music family who have traveled from near and far to be immersed in the music we all love as well as spend time with people who share an affinity for this genre.

There was a bit of initial disappointment in finding out that The Wildhearts, D-A-D and Gus G. weren’t able to make the trip due to visa issues, personal situations and illness. But that wasn’t enough to dampen the palpable excitement of getting on the Ship and ROCKING Out To Sea…

monsters of rock cruise 2019

I missed some of the shows as I was shooting some of the Meet & Greets or I was off the Boat in Jamaica or Haiti, Or I actually had to sit down and shovel food into my pie hole. But I captured a lot and without further ado I give you the WillToRock coverage of the 2019 MONSTERS OF ROCK CRUISE:

The 2018  Monsters of Rock Cruise was yet another fantastic vacation in the slew of well-organized On the Blue concert cruises. I have been lucky enough to be able to seek my personal respite, reprieve, hiatus – whatever you want to call taking a breath of life as it should be once in awhile – on seven of the eight  MORC cruises. It’s never been the same vacation twice, yet it’s always the same merry mix of living it up and chilling it down.

This year’s atmosphere was particularly steep in one heartening aspect, one that I’ll happily admit seems to come with aged wisdom: a permeating, profound sense of gratitude for life, music, good friends, and good times in a one-big-happy-family kind of love. The musicians emanated it over and over with both words and energy, and the appreciation flowed.

I will  attempt to share the entertaining delight of this comfortably floating concert festival…

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Weather-wise, it was mostly sunny and pleasant. However, this year was also rather windy in a lovely sort of way; I personally enjoy the rocking (no pun intended) atmosphere. In fact, I sit here at my desk the day after disembarking and still feel like I’m rocking – an odd sensation yet a pleasing reminder.

Royal Caribbean/Navigator of the Seas -wise, there was an impressively nice and helpful staff, from the porters to food and bar to crew and everyone in between. Food and drink-wise, it was typical and somewhat neutral cruise fare (give me a salad bar and I can eat anywhere, although I did indulge in nacho cheese covered chips and Johnny Rockets). Our level seven balcony room was awesome – I got my coffee delivered for sunrise patio sipping every morning, and followed it up with ocean-breezy yoga to kick off the day.

2018 MORC Cabin

Time-wise, I loved the extra fifth night this year – it seemed to provide for a little more downtime in between shows. The four-nighters of the past always left me wishing for a little bit more. Also, by the time I woke up on Day Six, home was sounding pretty good. I also loved the Sunday-Friday cruise schedule, with the weekend to do some serious recuperating before going back to the grind.

Music Venues

Pool Stage – The biggest difference this year was the pool stage; unlike previous main stages, it was a more intimate set-up. It worked well for band Q&As and lesser-attended shows, though there were plenty of roomy upper-decks for watching when it got crowded. It ended up working out quite well as it would have been too windy for the big shows, and I can understand the need to be prepared for rain. But how I cherish those seaside pool stage shows of years past ;o).

Studio B – My favorite venue by far. I heard someone in the elevator say that Studio B was meant to be the “pool stage” of past years and it was the perfect description. A big stage with a big general admission area – there really wasn’t a bad spot in the place. The sound was great. A bartender told us it was an ice skating rink on “regular” cruises.

2018 MORC Pool Stage

Metropolis Theatre – Generally like past theaters…roomy, easily accessible, easy to see from everywhere, great sound. Of course mainly a sit-down theatre, though there was room to stand and jam out when the feeling stuck. I mean, how can you SIT during a Kix show? But even I like to sit sometimes, rare though it may be.

Star Lounge – This bar became known as the place where you could hear but not see. There has been a setting like this on every cruise, more lounge-y bar than concert venue due to the floor-level stage that blocks the band to everyone who isn’t standing up front. But it was a decent place to go in and find a seat and socialize and listen. Most of the bands that played here also played a second show in Studio B.

Boleros – Another cruise standard: a small, intimate stage in a main hall bar area. It’s always a cheery bonus to stop and see whoever is playing these shows as you wander around the ship. This year’s star Boleros stage presence was Heavy Mellow , which plays hard rock and metal standards on spanish guitars.

Two Poets Pub and Viking Crown – I didn’t end up at either of these venues, although I saw it flowing at the gills for Heavy Mellow , and when Eddie Trunk hosted his live show on SiriusXM every afternoon. Viking Crown featured Brian & Izzy’s Late Night Karaoke, Cooking for Rockstars, Dave Rude’s Guitar Clinic, photo experiences, a cocktail contest, an auction, and, apparently, edible tattoos on Valentine’s Day.

My Favorites

2018 MOREC Jimmy D'Anda

People always ask. It’s hard to say when there were so many enjoyable shows, but best-in-show to me was Lies, Deceit & Treachery , with  L.A. Guns  coming in at a close second, and Madam X  in the top mix somewhere. LD&T is made up of the original Bullet Boys band, including my favorite-drummer-to-watch Jimmy D’Anda , and singer Andrew Freeman , whose vocals I lovelovelove singing Ronnie James Dio songs in Last in Line .  Only on the MOR Cruise can you see a kickass concert at 11 a.m.

Saturday – Pre-Show

MORC hosted pre-shows on Friday and Saturday night before Sunday’s departure. I only made the Saturday night show; once again, I simply couldn’t add a party night on the front-end of the trip. We arrived at Magic City Casino right as Y&T started and it was a gorgeous Florida winter evening in a spacious outdoor venue. The sound was fantastic yet oh-so-loud. Yes, I know, if it’s too loud you’re too old, and yes, I suppose I’m old but I have enough hearing problems so I never went anywhere without my high-end ear plugs strung about my neck (side note: I’m still open to finding the absolute best concert ear plugs if anyone has any suggestions).

As usual, Y&T put on a first-class show. And I think I love Queensryche  now more than ever…I love to hear them play nowadays, the songs sound so good and the energy is so complete. And I’d like to thank that guy, whoever he is, that left the Rage for Order cassette in my car back in 1986 because that’s how I got into this band.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Sunday – Sail Away Day

I often wonder what average cruise patrons and port employees think when the several thousand long-haired, tattooed, skull-wearing, cleavage-bearing, black-clad assortment of young and old rockers congregate at the port, all happy to be amongst Their People. I imagine they wish they were going to have as much fun as we were about to.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Here’s a video of  Lynch Mob in Studio B. I wondered who would be singing given the recent depressing departure of Oni Logan   from the band. Like I said in my review of last year’s Lynch Mob show , these guys had just got their band chemistry to a really good place. They ended up bringing back old vocalist Robert Mason , who now sings for   Warrant .  According to Blabbermouth.com , Robert will be doing a few shows with Lynch Mob, but they’re not trying to steal him away from Warrant. George Lynch and Sean McNabb were great, and were very visible, friendly faces around the ship. My favorite drummer boy Jimmy D’Anda was replaced by Scot Coogan , presumably because Jimmy has reunited with his Bullet Boys bandmates in Lies, Deceit & Treachery .

MORC 2018 Kickin Valentina

Monday – CoCoCay, Bahamas

The day started out with an always-enjoyable John Corabi jam on the pool stage, and from there we tendered over to the scenic port of CoCoCay, Bahamas.  The ship was originally scheduled to stop in Falmouth, Jamaica, but due to some sad civil unrest in that country it was moved. We sat in the island sunshine with frothy cocktails, had lunch, and checked out a bit of acoustic Budderside .

Headed back and watched Raven (who I did not know), then on to Madam X , Rhino Bucket , Winger , Tesla , Junkyard , Lita Ford , and Doro . What a day – and then Queensryche , Y&T , Faster Pussycat , the Iron Maidens (female tribute band), and Rough Cutt all played late shows that even a triple-shot of espresso couldn’t fully support.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Tuesday – Day At Sea

A rather mellow morning followed by Firehouse , then my number one show pick Lies, Deceit & Treachery, Tesla , Heavy Mellow , Lillian Axe , Jared James Nichols , Thunder , Izzy Presley’s ACK (Ace Frehley tribute band), L.A. Guns , Kix , and Monster Jam 2.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

This video is of the first song by Lies, Deceit & Treachery which set the tone for the whole kickass show. We spoke with Jimmy D’Anda for a few minutes in the cafeteria later and he was so appreciative and thankful of our praise, and said the band felt the chemistry too. Seems like a cool guy. I hope they tour.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Wednesday – Labadee, Haiti

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Here’s a video of  Todd LaTorre from Queensryche singing Edge of  Broken Heart with Vixen  (whose singer, as mentioned, is recovering from brain surgery) and a humorous twist featuring all the fill-in singers at the end…loved the love at this show.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

A short clip of “our song” as he called it – Tyketto’s   Forever Young . RIP, Brittany.

L.A. Guns video…such a great, great show.

Thursday – Day At Sea

Last day! After a morning cruise breakfast of a lox and cream cheese bagel, I went to Vixen’s Share Ross’  essential oils seminar in Studio B, where I passed essential oil samples to a fit and healthy looking Taime Downe and his beautiful girlfriend – the seminar was a very cool gem in the whole cruise experience. I’ll just add, for posterity’s sake, that one of the things I do remember from the ’80s is that Taime always went out of his way to go around and introduce himself to people – like at the Rainbow party in the parking lot – and, quite honestly, was the most gracious and pleasant rockstar on the Sunset Strip. Just sayin’.

We then checked out “It Came From the Studio” Roundtable with Micheal Wagener (producer), George Lynch , Kip Winger and Mark Weiss (rock photographer) on the pool stage – hosted by Eddie Trunk.  There were some good questions and interesting stories. From there we saw Micheal Sweet of Stryper do an acoustic set with guests, took an unexpected nap on a pool lounge chair, then Rough Cutt , a band I was really looking forward to. Finished off the evening with a great Junkyard show and finally Atomic Punks on the pool stage.

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Sorry this Rough Cutt video is so short and rocky – I’m dancing around and I hate to take videos at shows and my video guy Grant left for Atomic Punks . His intro to Bad Reputation mentioned that it was about Rainbow girls…I got no problems admitting that was me and my pals – good times, good times ;o)

2018 Monsters of Rock Cruise

Final show of the cruise – Atomic Punks on the Pool Stage on a beautiful Caribbean night.

Friday – Disembarkation

Tired but happy, we had put our bags out the night before and leisurely made our way off the ship around 9 a.m., and then experienced an insanely thrilling taxi ride in and out of emergency lanes with brake-slamming jerks back into traffic, stopping just short of jumping dirt piles (even though I think the driver considered it once), to the Miami airport. I’ll also mention that I’m glad I wore my new Queensryche shirt home on the plane because singer Todd LaTorre was on our flight and was nice to chat with, so that was cool. All in all, another great cruise and amazing vacation. Life is good.
