The ULTIMATE Morocco Itinerary 7 Days | A Step-by-Step Guide

For this Morocco itinerary, I suggest to land in Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport and leave from  Marrakesh Menara Airport . As these two cities are on opposite sides of Morocco, there’s no need to waste time on routes already visited.

I didn’t stop in Rabat or Casablanca because I thought the route along the North Atlantic Ocean forgoes the rich sceneries that define Morocco – the old medinas of Fes , the dramatic Ziz Valley , the  Todgha Gorge -a string of river canyons, and of course, the Sahara Desert . Most importantly, this 7 day Morocco  itinerary is a scenically diverse haven.

Day 1. Tangier – Chefchaouen

If your flight arrives early at the Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, opt for the old Medina of Tangier for a half-day tour before driving towards Chefchaouen through the Rif. Dar Tanger Medina has beautiful narrow streets and small stalls that sell a variety of goods. The architecture, the mosques, and the intersecting alleyways are a definite treat that will give you a window into a culture so rich and inviting.

If your flight arrives later, you might want to head directly towards Chefchaouen. Although Tangier is beautiful, more time should be spent wandering through the streets of Morocco’s Blue City. A 2.30 hrs drive between the two destinations and a quick dinner along the way should bring you into Chefchaouen just before nightfall.

Find a riad in the city and spend some time wandering the neighborhoods before hitting the sack!

Chefchaouen, blue city in Morocco

Chefchaouen, blue city in Morocco

Chefchaouen Morocco Blue City, Souika, Bab El Sor, and Rif As-Sabanin Oven

Day 2. Chefchaouen – Fes

Chefchaouen is a Imazighen city north of Morocco. The varying shades of blue houses are arranged in different planes that dot the green field surrounded by the Lau River . The color blue is said to have the magical power of repelling mosquitoes.

A traditional breakfast should be followed by another visit around town, with spots including the viewpoint from Chefchaouen Ras Elma , and neighborhoods like Souika , Bab El Sor , and Rif As-Sabanin Oven .

After Chefchaouen, continue your Morocco itinerary by driving to Fes, a beautiful city founded in the eighth century. Fes is the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, with a medina that dates back to the thirteenth century. Artisans gather by streets reminiscent of ancient guilds, forming marketplaces that offer a diverse range of craftsmanship.

If you spend half a day wandering Chefchaouen and 3.30hrs driving to Fes, you should arrive in the city around the evening. Have a bite at one of the restaurants and take some time to enjoy the night markets at Andalous Quarter or Souk el Henna .

Day 3. Explore Fez

Fez is the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, with a medina that extends back to the thirteenth century. From splendid palaces to religious sanctuaries, the city is often called “Mecca of the West.” Its artisans and activities are spread across maze-like bazaars. Begin the day by visiting the Royal Palace of Fez (Dar el Makhzen) .

Later, enjoy the beautiful sight of the medina from Fez el-Bali . This ‘old wall’ provides a great view of the whole city. Visit more bazaars and markets like the souk at R’cif Square or Souk Al-Attarine and discover mosques and religious sites along the way. After lunch, continue visiting the artisan neighborhood.

Fes is known for its handicrafts. From woven scarfs to hand-painted ceramics, the city and its medinas have ample hidden treasures that can make great gifts for those back home.

Day 4. Fes – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

3.20 hours-2.05 hours – 2 hours.

The road between Fez and the Merzouga Desert is long and beautiful. Although 7 days in Morocco means little time for long stops, there are many sites along the way that are worth a short layover.

The drive along N13 passes by the Cedar Forest , the Port of Midelt , the Errachidia Reservoir , the magnificent Valley of Ziz , and the town of Erfoud (the door leading to the Merzouga Desert). It’s a great idea to witness the sunset on top of Borj Adoumoue , a fort that offers a wonderful view of Erfoud.

Day 5. Todra Gorges Desert – Dades Gorges

Following a night in the desert, drive out of the dunes towards Erfoud towards Tinerhir . Visit the Fougartas -an old sewer system of the 15th century. After lunch at Todra Gorge , cross Tinghir and the Dades Boumalne Valley to get to Dades Gorges , a place where over time, the river has eroded the rocks to form a wonderful scenery.

Day 6. Dades Gorges – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

2.30 hours-3.20 hours.

Leave early and drive through the Valley of Roses and the Village of Boutghrart . Follow the Kasbahs Mille road and stop at various lookout points, including Kasbahs, valleys, caves and scenic view spots. From Skoura , head towards Ouarzazate Ciudad , which is famous for its film studios. Visit the splendid Kasbah ait ben Haddou where some films like Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, etc. were filmed.

Morocco in 7 days The Ultimate Roadtrip Itinerary

The last day (or couple) should be spent touring Marrakech and all its beauty. As a former imperial city in Western Morocco, Marrakech is a major economic and historical hub that offers a splendid medina, numerous historical monuments (tombs and mosques), kasbahs, Jemaa El Fna Square , and other famous sites. Personally, the most enticing thing about this culturally-rich city its the number of eateries. From pizza to tajine, options are limitless.

How to Plan Your 7 Day Morocco Itinerary

From Marrakesh, with its maze of alleys and courtyards, to the awe-inspiring Atlas and the sighing sights and sands of the Sahara, Morocco has an unfair advantage. How can one country ooze with memorable experiences like a ripe fig between your fingers, while other places struggle to scrabble together more than a dusty claim to fame in an old movie no one can remember.

Not only does Morocco have enough to draw you back again and again but it’s almost humble in the way its stories unfold. You won’t find much of the brash and hustle and hee-haw of other popular spots. Somehow, apart from certain squares and souks, a kind of softness and quiet politeness has become the norm.

And what’s even more bewildering is Morocco’s constant contrast between new and old, an almost mythical atmosphere where luxurious resorts coexist with simple Berber tents.

Many Different Morocco Itineraries

Morocco is a country I’ve fallen in love with and visited many times. But I know that it can feel overwhelming, as well as exciting, when you sit down to plot out your own 7 day itinerary through Morocco.

Since the country has so much to offer and it’s impossible to cover everything in one week, I’ve come up with different itineraries to guide you.

The first one is the one that we’re just back from, a week long trip to Morocco with kids, getting off the beaten track and under the skin of the country – at least a little. But each itinerary takes in some of the main attractions of Morocco, so start reading through, choose the one that speaks to you the most, book your ticket and hit the road.

Action begets action, after all.

How to Travel to Morocco

Morocco is well connected to almost every part of the world, with planes, buses, trains, and ferries that arrive and depart from its main cities every day. Depending on where you are travelling from, here are the options available:

  • By plane: You can fly to Morocco from several major cities around the world. This is the most comfortable way of travelling, as you can book a direct flight and arrive at the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Marrakesh Menara Airport in Marrakesh, or Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport in Tangier. It’s only 3 hours 40 from the UK, for example, and no jet lag. As ever, I’d recommend comparing flight prices with Skyscanner to find the best deal.
  • By ferry: If you are coming from Europe, taking a ferry to Morocco from Spain, France, or even Italy is a possibility. The most popular ferry routes are from Algeciras in Spain to Tangier or Ceuta and from Sète in France to Tangier.
  • By bus: Buses travel regularly to Morocco from neighbouring countries in North Africa, like Tunisia, but there are also bus services from Spain.
  • By car: If you are planning a road trip through Morocco, you can drive your car through the land border at Ceuta or Melilla or take the ferry from Spain, Italy, or France and continue your trip once you arrive in Morocco. For most travellers, though, it’s best to pick up your car after flying into Morocco. A car is a nuisance in the old part of Marrakesh, so plan to only collect it when you’re ready to leave the city. See our guide to driving in Morocco here.
  • By train: There are train services from Europe to Morocco via the ferry from Algeciras to Tangier.

What is it like to have a private driver in Morocco?

The first Moroccan itinerary here is the trip we’re just back from. This is the route we followed in partnership with Sun Trails, with our daughter, then six.

Sun Trails are a boutique tour operator who run Morocco private tours . We travelled with a private driver, named Daoud, who also took on the role of interpreter in many places, finding local guides at the top sights.

Berber driver Daoud on a bespoke Morocco itinerary

Honestly? I was worried that this would feel intrusive during a family holiday and probably wouldn’t have taken the plunge had it not been a work project.

But in reality, it was one of the best travel decisions I’ve made.

Daoud was wonderful with Rosa (she still talks about him all the time) and he helped us to speak to the local people we met and showed us things that we would otherwise have missed.

Berber guide Daoud playing with Rosa in Morocco

Perhaps most importantly? He was also quiet and allowed us to settle into our routine. We never got the impression that stopping for a toilet break or photo stop was irritating and he had a sixth sense for when we wanted to talk and learn and when we wanted to enjoy the silence and watch the scenery glide by.

It was such a hit that, in countries where there is a language barrier, I’m going to actively seek out this way of getting around.

It’s also worth mentioning that you can also book a private Morocco tour with Sun Trails as a couple, a solo traveller or as a group of friends. They’re there to create a bespoke itinerary for you, not just to arrange trips for those with kids.

7-Day Morocco Itinerary 1: Off the beaten track from Marrakesh

Sweeping up over the Tizi n Tichka pass in the Atlas Mountains , this itinerary takes you from the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh into solitary outposts amid alien rock formations. You’ll see palm-lined retreats, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, underground cities and, of course, those burnt orange desert sands.

It’s a way of combining many of the highlights of Morocco without getting too caught up in the tourist traps along the way.

Day 1: Arrive in Marrakesh

Depending on what time you arrive, you can either leap into action and start exploring the city or simply check in at your hotel, have a nice dinner, and recover from any jet lag (unlikely if you’re coming from the UK, however.)

Riad Chergui

This beautiful little spot with its small pool and crushed red velvet restaurant lies tucked away within a maze of twists and turns in the old part of Marrakesh. It’s unpretentious and absolutely gorgeous.

Day 2: Marrakesh

Marrakesh can be something of a culture shock, especially around the UNESCO World Heritage Site and hubbub of Jemaa el-Fna square. While most people fall in love with the city eventually, it can be a little overwhelming to begin with, particularly if you’re travelling with kids.

The solution? I’d highly recommend easing in to things and a great way to do this is by taking a cooking class with a local guide.

Marrakech cooking class at Mama Toto's house with a family chopping onions and preparing a chicken tagine as part of an authentic Morocco itinerary

Cooking Class in Marrakesh

Our first morning in Marrakesh involved winding our way through the streets of the old Medina, struggling to keep up with the young woman ahead. Slim, dressed in jeans and with long, flowing hair, she was a student at the local university and our interpreter for the day.

She led us to a traditional, if grand, house in the heart of Marrakesh. One with tiles and balconies, an open courtyard inside and mirrors aplenty.

It was here we met Mama Toto, our chef and instructor for the session.

To her friendly chitter and jolly chatter, we chopped and washed, kneaded and pleaded and sipped green tea until finally our masterpiece was ready: a chicken tagine with olives and preserved lemon.

Somewhat surprisingly, I’ve made this dish at home, now, several times and it always comes out just as good. The secret inside tip? Create a layer of sliced onions at the base of your tagine to stop the chicken scorching or drying out.

Tour Marrakesh

Take the afternoon to explore the city’s main tourist attractions, such as the opulent Bahia Palace with its intricate mosaics, hand-carved ceilings, and superb gardens, or the Saadian Tombs which date back to the 16th century. If time permits, stop by the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakesh, before wandering through the narrow alleys of the Medina, the city’s old town.

Again, as part of our itinerary with Sun Trails , we opted to have a city guide to help us save time since we only had one afternoon. He dutifully took us through the top sights, pointing out the similarities between Moroccan architecture and Seville where we used to live.

Marrakesh Medina

But he really came into his own in the souks, with inside knowledge of where to find sparkling lights, eucalyptus cold remedies, and indigo. Plus, no trip to Morocco can be complete without a trip to a friend’s carpet shop, right?

Under his watchful eye, we witnessed the friendliest and most welcoming demonstration of carpets I’ve seen in all my travels along North Africa and the Middle East.

Day 3: Marrakesh to Skoura

5-hour drive. Accommodation in Skoura.

It’s an early start on day three to journey towards Skoura, a gorgeous vally of palm trees with kasbahs and a kind of oasis retreat.

Tizi n Tichka Pass

As you travel south, you’ll traverse the Tizi n Tichka pass, which stands at a height of 2,200 metres and offers a series of magnificent views where pink sand mixes with white snow like a child’s fairytale dessert. Wrap up warm, though. Those exposed peaks are cold.

The Argan Oil Cooperative

Hands up if you’ve heard of argan oil? Produced from the kernels of the argan tree, you can either drizzle it across bread and pasta or soak it into your skin in the form of beauty products.

Since argan trees are only found in Morocco and parts of southwestern Algeria, it’s a hyper local product and you’ll find women’s cooperatives along the road with various different demonstrations.

Near the Tizi n Tichka pass, we found one where you can see how the kernels are roast and ground into paste (and kids are also allowed to stop and take a turn.)

In Agdz, you can see the Kasbah Tamnougalt, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a stunning example of traditional Moroccan architecture.

In Ouarzazate, check out the Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios, where many movies and TV shows have been filmed.

Finally, head on to Skoura.

Aptly named for its gardens, Jardins de Skoura really lives up to the description as an oasis in Morocco. With only a few guests, the boutique rooms highlight local culture and the small restaurant provides an intimate Moroccan dining experience.

Day 3: Skoura to Erg Chebbi

5-hour drive. Accommodation in Merzouga.

We didn’t get the chance but heard that a guided tour of Skoura’s palm grove and the well-preserved Kasbah Amridil is a great way to spend the morning.

Abigail King in front of snowy mountains and palm trees en route to the Dades Gorge

The Dades Gorge

Instead, we drove on to the impressive Dades Gorge, the narrow and winding roads surrounded by towering red cliffs, traditional villages and lush green palm groves.

While the outside was warm and balmy, the short hike through the gorge brought tears to our eyes through the wind and cold. Some wise and enterprising souls make a good living selling scarves and wraps along this section. Either bring your own or bring cash!

Alternative option: visit the Todra Gorge, a narrow canyon with towering cliffs that leads to Tinerir.

Playing with kids in Ksar el Khorbat near Tinejdad as part of a Morocco Itinerary

Ksar El Khorbat in Tinejdad

Head into an underground city in Ksar El Khorbat, a traditional city made from earthen walls, with a small museum and a vast complex of housing. Around half the rooms here are still inhabited and the best part of the trip, for us, was when the children played together, both local and foreign.

If you have time, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif also comes highly recommended.

Caravan of camels at sunset in the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga on a one week Morocco itinerary

Late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, where you can explore the sand dunes on camelback. Quadbike or camelride the 150-metre-high Erg Chebbi dunes before heading to your desert camp for a night in the heart of the desert.

Inside Tip: Fossils in the Desert

Just before you reach the popular section of the dunes, there’s a gravel path that veers from the road to a small, rather battered hut. In here lie fossils and treasures aplenty as this section of dry land used to be beneath the sea.

You can chip out fossils yourself from the rock on this wind-whipped plain with no one but the curator around. We would never have found this spot by ourselves, so it’s a good example of when it’s handy to have a local driver.

Abigail King in a desert camp with table and chairs in the Erg Chebbi dunes in Morocco

Accommodation and Dining in the Dunes at Erg Chebbi

One of the biggest surprises about any Morocco itinerary is the range of accommodation available in the desert. Sure, the photos make it look as though you’re alone on the sifting orange sands. But in reality, you’ll cross the dunes flanked by convoys of tourists on camels to the thrum of quadbikers cutting in front of you.

At sunset, you’ll join around one hundred to two hundred people at the top of the largest dune and from there, you all spill off into the semi-permanent desert camps below.

Camels wait near a row of tents at a desert camp in Erg Chebbi

There’s a huge range of styles available. We stayed in a triple comfort tent, a kind of glamping arrangement with fabric walls but a fully plumbed in shower and toilet.

Dinner was served in a tent with around fifty or so other tourists, a traditional Moroccan meal of soup and tagine.

I’ve heard that there are more luxurious and isolated places, like this luxury Morocco desert camp. So I’ll have to plan to go back one day and test it out!

Day 4: Merzouga to Ouled Yahia

5-hour drive. Accommodation in Ouled Yahia

It’s a wild, barren drive from the desert to Ouled Yahia, with fudge coloured rocks rising in a mix of smooth and jagged formations all around. It makes the discovery of the oasis at Ouled Yahia all the more striking.

Berber Pizza

But if Berbers know anything, it’s how to make the most of this landscape. And so, between the Djeble Sahro volcanic ridges, we stopped for a Berber pizza.

Daoud produced a kind of flat bread filled with nuts and ground meat which he had picked up from Rissani. And while it looks and sounds rather unpromising, it was absolutely delicious.

You won’t find many rest stops on this stretch of the drive, so I recommend you pick up your own Berber pizza before you set off.

Day 5: Ouled Yahia into Saghro

Depending on the time of year, you can either laze by the pool and take in the view of the countryside in Ouled Yahia or walk around the village.

It’s a quiet place with traditional mud-brick buildings. If the stars align, you can visit the market and join local women as they bake bread. Apparently, you can also learn about traditional handicrafts like pottery, weaving, and embroidery from local artisans in Tamegroute or visit the Koranic library, but on our trip, the weather meant we had to reschedule some activities and couldn’t test this ourself.

The Texas of Morocco

Instead, we drove for a day trip into the “Texas of Morocco,” a land with strange natural stone sculptures and a sense of emptiness in the wild. Come spring, the fields blossom with white almond petals in this Saghro region but in late winter, government officials give out food and blankets to those who struggle instead.

It’s a great place for hiking, for serious hikers and young families alike. And Daoud stopped to make us a Berber barbecue, within sight of an elephant shaped rock.

Day 6: Ouled Yahia – Ait Benhaddou- Marrakesh

5-hour drive. Accommodation in Marrakesh.

It’s time to head back to Marrakesh, but not without one important stop.

Abigail King standing within UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou as part of a Morocco itinerary

Ait Benhaddou UNESCO World Heritage Site

Ait Benhaddou, a walled village constructed entirely of clay in the 17th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive structure has been featured in various films and TV shows, including Game of Thrones, and is a fabulous location for photography enthusiasts.

Then it’s time to cross the Atlas Mountains once again on your journey back to Marrakesh.

Take the last evening in Morocco to wander on the streets of Marrakesh and dine at a traditional restaurant.

Our Hotel Recommendations for Marrakesh:

  • Luxury: La Mamounia
  • Mid-range: Riad Alma
  • Budget: Hotel Gomassine

Where to Dine in Marrakesh:

  • Luxury: Dar Moha
  • Mid-range: Cafe Clock
  • Budget: Chez Yassine

With exquisite interior decor, Riad Alma is a cosy retreat that’s still close to the airport. The rooftop terrace has glimpses of the Marrakesh skyline but it’s the sumptuous sense of style that really stands out here.

Day 7: Depart Marrakesh

If time allows, take a brief morning walk around the centre of Marrakesh to say goodbye to the beautiful Red City before you head to the airport.

7-Day Morocco Itinerary 2: Imperial Cities & Desert

The second itinerary takes you to the imperial cities in Morocco: Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, and Rabat. These major cities have earned their imperial title because, at various points in Morocco’s history, they have all served as the country’s capital.

Day 1: Arrive in Casablanca

Accommodation in Casablanca

The best way to start this Morocco itinerary is to catch an early flight and arrive in Casablanca in the morning. This way, you will have plenty of time to discover Morocco’s largest city while sampling a taste of Moroccan culture.

Seeing Casablanca

Once you’ve checked into your accommodation, it’s time to hit the streets and delve into the historic Old Medina. Get lost in the winding streets, bustling markets, and traditional Moroccan architecture that make this place stand out. Just one note, though. It’s not quite as romantic as the film Casablanca would have you believe. It’s worth visiting, for sure. Just have your expectations at the right level.

In the afternoon, head to the Hassan II Mosque , one of the largest in the world. Next, explore the Gothic-style Casablanca Cathedral, a remnant of the French colonial era that now serves as a cultural centre. Finally, get lost in the opulence of the Royal Palace of Casablanca, the official residence of the King of Morocco.

As the sun begins to set, take a stroll through the beautiful Parc de la Ligue Arabe. This park in the heart of the city has lush gardens, tranquil fountains, and a serene lake, making it a nice place to unwind after a day full of adventure.

Hotel Recommendations for Casablanca:

Berber driver Daoud from a private tour company in Morocco

Should You Visit Morocco on Your Own or with a Tour Company?

It’s the age old question. Organise your own road trip or travel with a tour company? Obviously, there are pros and cons to both.

Driving around Morocco on your own

I’ve driven around Morocco solo – and loved it. But it was a challenge, for sure.

Hiring your own car allows you to be flexible with your travel plans, explore remote areas and interact with whoever you meet along the way. However, it’s not for the faint for heart.

Make sure you have travel insurance and enough cash, as some places do not accept credit cards. Stock up on paper maps, make sure your paperwork is in order and make sure you know where you can find fuel.

Travelling via public transport

I’ve done this as well, but it’s time consuming and difficult to connect all the dots. If you have plenty of time in Morocco, then it’s a great way to really experience the everyday way of life. But if you only have seven days and are looking for a bit of R&R amid your exploration, then this probably isn’t the best option to choose. And it’s certainly much harder work if you are travelling in Morocco with kids.

Joining a tour group

You’ll find several group tours operating across Morocco as it’s a safe, stable, tourist friendly place. The advantages of joining a group is, of course, instant friends. The disadvantage is the risk of making instant enemies as well ;-) More typically, the compromise means that you have to follow the group in terms of timings and can’t visit smaller hotels and restaurants.

Hiring a driver

This really is the best option for a 7-day Morocco itinerary. Hiring a driver means that you don’t need to worry about all the logistics but you can still stop if you see anything that catches your eye. Your driver can usually be your interpreter as well, meaning you’ll have a much richer experience through talking to locals.

Beautiful reflections in the water of a Moroccan landscape

FAQs about travel in Morocco

When is the best time to visit morocco.

Morocco has a surprisingly seasonal climate; it’s certainly not hot all the time. The most comfortable times to visit are in the spring or autumn months as the summer can be ferociously hot and the winter can cause the mountain passes to close due to snow.

How many days do you need in Morocco?

It’s possible to enjoy a long weekend in Marrakesh or on the coast but if you want to see anything of the country then you’ll need at least a week. With two weeks, you can obviously see a lot more but it’s possible to see the desert, Marrakesh and some beautiful places with any one of these 7 day Morocco itineraries.

Is Morocco safe with kids?

Yes, Morocco is safe with kids and a great place for a family holiday. But I understand the hesitation. You do need to be careful with drinking water and very rural parts can be very far from a hospital. You’ll also likely need travel vaccinations, which may not be recommended for children under two. As ever, check with a qualified healthcare professional well in advance.

What do women need to wear in Morocco?

Morocco is a reasonably conservative, muslim country so it’s a good idea for both men and women to wear clothes that reach down to cover wrists and ankles. This article on what to wear in Jordan provides helpful advice that applies to Morocco as well.

That said, women don’t need to cover their hair and, particularly in the cities, you’ll find young women wearing skintight fashion with their locks flowing.

However, a headscarf is extremely useful to travel with to protect against the wind and sand and if you do have long hair, it can really help it from thrashing in your face. Check out my video on wearing a headscarf in Morocco here.

Handy Tips for Planning Your Morocco Itinerary

Group tour or independent travel .

Glamping Morocco

Whether you want to spend a week in Morocco solo or accompanied is up to you. While independent travel means more freedom, and you can make choices based on your preferences, group travel can also take much of the planning off your plate.

I recommend group travels with G Adventures if you’re a nervous traveller, especially when going to the Moroccan Sahara. This trip plans everything for you, so all you need to worry about is what you’re packing – which, to be honest, is a whole different kind of stress, amirite?

As well as this, guided tours can help make transport around the country a lot easier (as you’ll see throughout this itinerary).

Book your Morocco Trip

Though, I’ll admit that few things beat the authenticity and mystery of a solo adventure, and you can plan out everything by yourself. This is where the following sections will come in handy.

What to Pack for Your 1 Week in Morocco Itinerary

Marrakech, Morocco

Since Morocco has no shortage of charming mazelike alleys and bustling souks, expect to do a ton of walking. Wearing comfy shoes , a hat, and high SPF sunblock is a must.

Surprisingly, Morocco has no dress code despite being an Islamic country. Women can wear shorts when visiting coastal areas. However, I advise you not to wear extremely short shorts – just be respectful.

Honestly, it’s best to stick to loose-fitting clothing and long pants to protect your skin from the sun. Anything tight and short will make days in the extreme desert weather seriously unpleasant.

You can also protect your peepers from the sun and wind by wearing polarised sunglasses .

Useful Resources

Skyscanner : A highly reliable search engine and travel agency that helps you find and book affordable flights, hotels, and car rentals.

Booking.com : One of the largest travel marketplaces, allowing you to browse various properties globally.

Tripadvisor : A travel information and booking site featuring reviews, photographs and forums about hotels, restaurants, activities, and more.

Get Your Guide : A travel agency/marketplace for tours and excursions around the globe.

Viator : An online marketplace for tours, activities, and attractions globally.

Rentalcars.com : A booking agency that compares and finds the best prices of different car hire companies, from luxury and economy to family rental cars.

Getting Around

Marrakech

The easiest way to travel in Morocco (between wider locations such as cities) is via shared grand taxis. The grand taxis are a more reliable option and can carry up to eight passengers operating on various routes, making them quicker than most buses or trains.

While it gets you to your next destination much quicker, a grand taxi usually costs more (up to twice as much) than the bus. You could use petit taxis if you travel around in one specific city and do short trips. These are cheap and plentiful, so finding one won’t be a hassle.

It’s best to rent a car if you’re travelling to the outskirts, like the coasts, deserts and the Atlas Mountains. Alternatively, an organised tour can also comfortably get you to these parts of the country.

7-Day Morocco Itinerary

Days 1-2: marrakech.

Morocco

Where else to kick off this Morocco itinerary than in Marrakech, the capital. Here, you’ll be able to spend some time adoring the Moorish architecture from an enchanting garden while sipping mint tea (what a life), or pottering around a vibrant souk.

Being a culture and artistic hotspot, you’re never far from grand palaces, luxury spas and hammams, five-star restaurants and traditional riads. There’s a reason why it’s called the ‘city of luxury’ after all.

The atmospheric souks, bustling streets, heaps of spices and lingering perfumes will delight your senses as you walk through the winding alleyways of this city.

Things to do in Marrakech

Morocco

Sample traditional food at a riad: A riad is a traditional house or palace with a courtyard that contains trees and plants. These often feature accommodations and restaurants serving traditional Moroccan cuisine, such as wood-fired breads and couscous.

Admire historical landmarks: See the beautiful Moorish-inspired architecture of some of Marrakech’s top landmarks — each with a fascinating backstory. Don’t miss Bahia Palace, Saadien’s Tombs, El Badi Palace and Koutoubia Mosque. See them all on this historical and cultural tour .

Relax in a steamy hammam: A hammam or Turkish bath is a tradition where locals gather in a steam-filled public bath (similar to a thermal spa) to unwind and bathe. Experience a hammam’s healing and exfoliating properties at Hammam De La Rose, Heritage Spa, or the Riviera Spa.

Visit the top sights: With so much to do, choosing just a few activities is challenging. However, try not to skip out on Marrakech’s fantastic sights, including a trip to Majorelle Garden , Palmeraie Ourika Valley, and Jemaa el-Fna square.

Enjoy a camel ride and picnic in the Agafay Desert: The Agafay desert is a popular location for camel safaris, quad biking and luxury camping. Many tour guides offer exciting activities in this arid, rocky terrain, such as this full-day desert and mountain tour .

Take a day trip to Ouzoud Waterfalls: Visit one of Africa’s tallest and most stunning waterfalls. This Ouzoud Waterfall tour includes a hike and a thrilling boat ride at this mesmerising landmark.

Getting to Marrakech

Marrakech

When travelling to Marrakech, you’ll likely land at Menara Airport – most major airlines around the world will fly here. Once you land, it’s around 20 minutes by taxi to the city centre.

Suggested Stay for Marrakech on your Morocco Travel Itinerary

The Riad Palais Des Princesses & Spa captures the essence of Morocco to the fullest, featuring both a hammam and riad. Now you can tick off two activities from the things to do list and access nearby attractions such as Jemaa el-Fna square.

The rooms are stunning and feature traditional interiors. Take a couples massage, rejuvenate in the hammam, or cosy up on a lounger in the central courtyard.

You’ll also have access to an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, terrace, room service and daily brunch. What more could you ask for?

Alternatively, check all accommodations in Marrakech .

Day 3: Essaouira

Essaouira

Essaouira is a charming haven by the sea – and a place I fell in love with. It’s unique for its 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah that shelter its cobbled medina (old town).

While Morocco is more associated with dunes and colourful markets, it makes perfect sense to explore its lesser-known shores. Essaouira will give you a more tranquil and laid-back feeling after a busy two days in the capital.

Alternative cultures and lifestyles flourish in this city known for its artisan industries – though one full day is enough for you to explore much of the medina and some of its coastal paradise.

Now, I highly recommend you take a day trip from Marrakech and return to the capital in the evening. Why? All will become clear when you see what’s in store for day 4.

Things to do in Essaouira

Souk Essaouira

Try wind and watersports: The city’s crescent beach sees strong trade winds making it ideal for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. So if this sounds like your thing, waste no time making your way to Plage d’Essaouira.

Visit a hidden beach: Nothing beats finding a hidden gem, and Iftane beach is as charming as they come. Sink into the soft sand of this beach as the azure water caresses the shores — there’s no better way to relax.

Admire the top landmarks: Learn about the history and culture of Essaouira by visiting its top landmarks, including Skala de la Ville, Skala du Port and Simon Attias Synagogue.

Wander through the buzzing medina: Stroll through the lively narrow streets surrounded by vibrant galleries, souks and street vendors. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Sight in 2001, you’ll see why this picturesque area has made it onto the popular series, Game of Thrones .

Indulge in seafood cuisine: Take the opportunity to tickle your palette with seafood dishes with a Moroccan twist. I highly recommend La Table by Madada, Seafood Corner and The Loft.

Top Tip: There are more brilliant things to do in Essaouira , so I suggest you dive into this guide too.

Getting to Essaouira

Essaouira

The drive from Marrakech to Essaouira is less than three hours – this is the easiest way to travel between the two if you’re not looking for a tour.

That said, I recommend booking a day trip and returning to Marrakech in the evening, as it makes travelling to the rest of the country a lot easier.

If you’re staying in Essaouira for a longer period of time, there is also a bus that takes slightly longer. Check tickets and times here .

Suggested Stay for Essaouira on your Morocco 1 Week Itinerary

If you’ve decided to bed down in this city for the evening, there’s no better way to enjoy the magical coastal scenery of Essaouira than staying at an elegant hotel overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Riad Lyon-Mogador gives you that and more.

Rooms are spacious, with traditional Moroccan touches throughout. This hotel features terraces, free Wi-fi, airport shuttles and an onsite restaurant.

Plage d’Essaouira is a nearby beach to soak up some sun, and you can pop over to souks, cafes and bars in the historic old town.

Alternatively, check all accommo d ations in Essaouira .

Days 4-5: Sahara

Kasbah Amridil, Morocco

The Moroccan Sahara encompasses a huge portion of the Western Sahara, which the government of Morocco claimed authority over in 1975. Marrakech is the gateway to the Sahara, so it’s best to travel from there.

And let me tell you, the journey from Marrakech to the Sahara is one of the most visually appealing, like ever.

What makes the Sahara the biggest tourist attraction of Morocco is its desolate desert flatlands and charming towns or villages that separate you from modern civilisation. The oases, dunes, ethereal skies and frozen-in-time kasbahs dotted about make it unmissable.

Take two days (or three, if you have an extra one to spare) out of your one week in Morocco, as travelling to the Sahara will take up much of your time.

Things to do in Sahara

Kasbah Amridil, Morocco

Camp amongst the towering dunes: Embrace the outer edges of the Sahara near Merzouga by spending a night under the stars in a Berber-style desert camp. This overnight camping tour includes luxury or standard tents and camel trekking.

Admire the Kasbah Amridil: A Kasbah is a living museum and fortress showcasing cultural heritage and traditional handmade artefacts over the centuries. And the Kasbah Amridil in sleepy Skoura village is the most iconic of the many Kasbahs across the desert. Visit this site to get memorable insight into the ancient traditions of Kasbah life.

Photograph the Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga dunes: Capturing the majestic sea of dunes as the sun creates captivating shadows between them is a must. Some of the dunes can reach 525 feet (160 metres), and the complete silence out there makes it feel otherworldly.

Explore Western Sahara’s biggest city: Laâyoune is the capital of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region. It offers much to do and see, including wandering through Souk ez Zaj (the oldest part of the city). The monuments and landmarks here, such as the Grand Mosque, Place El Mchawar and the Spanish Cathedral, will give you more insight into Sahrawi culture , which differs from the rest of Morocco.

Getting to Sahara

Kasbah Amridil, Morocco

I recommend travelling to the quaint village of Merzouga to base your activities if you’re using a rented car. Driving from Marrakech to Merzouga takes about nine hours (346 miles) via N9 and N10.

Alternatively, you can join this desert tour from Marrakech that includes a camel trek.

If you’re worried about time, I suggest taking an hour’s flight from Marrakech to either Zagora or Errachidia. From here, you can travel to the desert dunes, Merzouga, or other cities and towns.

Suggested Stay for Sahara on Your Morocco Itinerary

Riad Madu offers comfort, elegance and that classic Moroccan charm. Providing spacious rooms with modern and traditional touches, you’ll love its authenticity. Located in Merzouga, this property has everything you need for a cosy stay in the desert.

Take advantage of their 24-hour front desk, swimming pool, garden, terraces, room services, and other fantastic facilities. Sample tantalising Moroccan dishes, then enjoy lounging by the pool with rolling desert landscapes as your backdrop (talk about a sweet escape).

Alternatively, check all accommodations in the Sahara .

Days 6-7: Fez (And Back to Marrakech)

 Fez, Morocco

Fez is one of Morocco’s biggest cities, yet it’s a severely underrated one. It’s also known as the country’s cultural capital.

This mediaeval city has an old-world flair, transporting you back in time. With Marinid architecture, intricate cedar carvings and elaborate tilework everywhere you look, it’s virtually a photographer’s paradise.

Things to do in Fez

Fez, Morocco

Admire historical landmarks: You can’t come to Fez without making time for its stunning ancient buildings. I suggest visiting The Bab Boujloud, Al Attarine Madrasa and Bou Inania Madrasa.

Explore its medina: A walking tour through Fez medina is enough to fill all your senses. It’s radiant with food stalls, smells, bustling markets, mosques, palaces, and so much more.

Try some street food: Fez is an excellent place for foodies. From traditional meals to fast food, your taste buds are in for a good time. You’ll find stalls in all the different souks of the medina. M’sem is a crispy pancake that is quite popular, but I dare you to taste the infamous camel burger.

Photograph the views overlooking the tannery: Fez is famous for its leather tannery, which is also its main tourist attraction. You must visit one of the many leather shops featuring balconies and viewing platforms to see the tannery in all its glory. The best part is you don’t need a guide or tour for this activity.

Getting to Fez

Fez, Morocco

If you’ve opted to base yourself in Marrakech thus far, the easiest way to travel to Fez is by a one hour flight. Or, if you’re in the desert, the drive from Merzouga to Fez is around 7 hours.

At the end of your 7 day Morocco trip, I recommend flying home via Marrakech (or by Fez if you have a direct flight available).

Suggested Stay for Fez on your Morocco 7 day Itinerary

Riad Farah is a place full of Moroccan charm – from decorative tiles and gorgeous wooden shutters throughout, you can’t get any more traditional than this. At Riad Farah, you can expect excellent service and convenient amenities such as an airport shuttle, Wi-fi, room service, and more.

The bar and restaurant on site offer tantalising traditional cuisine, so you don’t have to stray too far. Enjoy the breathtaking views from their spacious rooftop terrace, and even the guestrooms feature patios with views.

Alternatively, check all accommodations in Fez .

“My 7 days in Morocco starting from Casablanca with Morocco Fabulous Travel exceeded all of my expectations. The itinerary was packed with incredible experiences, from touring the beautiful Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca to exploring the historic streets of the Fes Medina. The accommodations were also top-notch, and I felt well-cared for throughout the entire trip. The private tour allowed me to tailor the experience to my interests, and my guide was knowledgeable and accommodating. One of the highlights of the trip for me was sleeping under the stars in the heart of the desert – an experience I will never forget. I would highly recommend Morocco Fabulous Travel to anyone looking for a personalized and authentic travel experience in Morocco.”

When people throw around the word ‘remarkable’, they’re probably referring to places like Morocco.

Best time to visit morocco.

The climate in Morocco varies wildly according to the season and area of travel. In the lowlands, the cooler months from October to April are popular among visitors. This time of year is pleasantly warm to hot (around 86°F) during the day and cool to cold (around 59°F) at night. Winter in the higher regions often brings snow and can therefore get seriously cold, particularly at night. Tourists flock to the coastline from June to September for fun in the sun, with warm mostly rain-free days. Further inland it can get hot and rain is rare, which makes the best times to travel March to June and September to December. As a Muslim country, Morocco observes Ramadan. If you are planning to go on holiday in Morocco during Ramadan, it is important to consider that many restaurants and shops will either be closed or operating at reduced hours during this time.

Culture and customs

Morocco's culture has developed over centuries of influence from far and wide. Contemporary Morocco is a fascinating mix of Berber, Mediterranean, Andalucian and African traditions, which are present in the cuisine, clothing, music, language, customs and lifestyle. As an Islamic country, most Moroccans are Muslim; however, there are small populations of people who practice Judaism and Christianity. Classic examples of Islamic architecture can be observed all throughout the country and tenets of the Islamic religion are carried out in the customs and lives of the people. The 'Call to Prayer' can be heard five times a day, women are expected to dress modestly and alcohol isn't drunk by most of the population.

Most of Moroccan society can be considered traditional, with respect for elders, connection to family, and giving alms to the poor hallmarks of everyday life for many Moroccans. Hospitality is another important element of society, with warmly welcoming people into your home a time-honored tradition and social responsibility that dates back centuries.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat, or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Believe the hype - Moroccan food is legendary.

Things to try in Morocco

These slow-cooked stews are synonymous with Moroccan cooking. Chicken, olive, and citrus are well-known favorites, but there are endless variations using different meats, vegetables, and seasonings.

2. Couscous

Forget instant cous cous and try the real deal in Morocco. Often served with vegetables and meat, regional varieties sometimes also include everything from sweet raisins to spicy harissa or smoky almonds.

3. Fresh fruit

Morocco has an amazing array of fruit available in the markets, shops, and juice bars. Choose from bananas, mangoes, oranges, avocados, or peaches - eat fresh or get them whipped up in a juice.

4. Mint tea

While traveling through Morocco you'll probably drink more sweet mint tea than ever before. Offered as a gesture of hospitality when visiting someone's home or shop, it's considered impolite to refuse, so accept graciously.

Geography and environment

Located in North Africa, Morocco has the best of many worlds within its boundaries. From the sun-drenched beaches of the coast to the sands of the mighty Sahara and the snowy peaks of the High Atlas and Rif Mountains, Morocco has great variety in its landscapes and terrain. This combination of desert, woodlands, forest, mountain steppe, and grasslands ensures a wide diversity of flora and fauna lives within the country.

History and government

Early history.

The land now known as Morocco has been inhabited for centuries, with Moroccan civilization being known for its richness in history and culture. Centuries of foreign trade, invasion, and dynastic rule have given Morocco many different cultural influences that are evident in today's society. From the Phoenicians who entered Morocco via the Mediterranean in the 6th century BC, to the Roman influence of 40 AD and the formation of Islamic Morocco in the years after, Morocco has evolved with the rise and fall of dynasties, formation and dissolution of empires and the birth of new governments, movements, and ways of living. Reaching its height under the Berber Dynasties of the 11th and 12th centuries (the Almoravids, Almohads, Marinids, and Wattasids), Morocco subsequently fell to Arab tribes in 1559. The current royal family are descendants of the Alaouite Dynasty who have largely ruled since the 1600s, despite enduring a few crises in the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in relation to European influence in the area and surrounding countries.

Recent history

With the signing of the Treaty of Fez, Morocco was declared a protectorate of France in 1912 with Spain being allocated control of parts of Morocco, mainly in the north and south. European control was generally opposed by Moroccan citizens, with the people of Rif attempting to establish a separatist republic in 1921. Decades of opposition continued, with rioting and protests leading to increased political tension. In 1955, the road to Moroccan independence was paved by Mohammed V who negotiated reforms and the restoration of independence. By 1956, France had relinquished its protectorate of Morocco and in 1957, Mohammed V became king. In 1961, Hassan II assumed the title of King of Morocco and continued to rule until his death in 1999. His son, Mohammed VI, took over the mantle of king in 1999 and continues to rule today.

Top places to see in Morocco

1. marrakech.

Things just happen in Marrakech. One moment you're sitting down to a camel burger, the next you're chatting with a snake charmer. The labyrinthine markets are the perfect place to lose yourself but find a Moroccan memento or three.

The endless dunes of the Sahara will call to your inner explorer. Jump on a camel and start riding out over the sandy waves. At sunset, the desert glows rich and red and at night the stars turn the sky crystal.

The desert is calling! Add a  3 day Sahara Mini Adventure  to your Morocco trip itinerary.

3. Essaouira

The name 'Essaouira' means image, appropriate since its charm is undeniable. Within the stone ramparts, you'll find art galleries, wood workshops and whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters. Portuguese, British and Jewish influences all mingle in this artist's town.

Explore this windswept coastal city on our  11 day Premium Morocco Highlights with Essaouira trip,  or make it a quick journey on our  Five Days in Morocco tour.

Fes is the cultural heart of Morocco and home to some of its most iconic sights. Feel every sense come alive in the medina. Shops, dye pits and mosques all vie for space and you're as likely to see a donkey as a car.

5. High Atlas Mountains

The mountains are best explored at the ground level by foot or bicycle. Travel through Amazigh villages, up along crop terraces, down through lush valleys and past orchards, goats and Moroccan rural life. The seriously fit can tackle Mount Toubkal for incredible views.

Join a  7 day Mount Toubkal Trek  or a  Mount Toubkal Long Weekend Trek  for those short on time.

6. Todra Gorge

This is a rock climber's heaven or the ideal place for beginners to get a taste. It's a tight squeeze in some places but a sparkling river, the odd palmeraie, Berber villages and high cliff walls make it worth breathing in for.

7. Moulay Idriss

The small Medina of ancient Moulay Idriss was once forbidden to non-Muslims. Now it is a pleasure to explore as the faithful gather to pay homage to the founding father of Islam in Morocco at the 8th-century mausoleum.

8. Ait Benhaddou

Perfectly preserved, this is one of Morocco's most picturesque kasbahs. Centuries ago it was a stop for caravans as they carried salt across the Sahara. Today, it is inhabited only by a handful of families and the odd film crew.

Visit Ait Benhaddou on our  8 day Classic Morocco tour .

9. Casablanca

The very name conjures up images of war-time romance. But the real romance of Casablanca must be its French influences and the beautiful Hassan II mosque, the largest in Morocco.

10. Volubilis

Do some time travel and visit the ancient hilltop city of Volubilis, one of the Roman Empire's most remote bases. The ruins here are beautifully preserved and it's easy to believe you've stepped into the 2nd or 3rd century.

Rabat is Morocco's lively capital. Its history is long and colorful, having been host to Roman settlements, pirates, and more recently the Moroccan parliament. Stroll through the old quarter or enjoy views over the Atlantic Ocean from Kasbah des Oudaias.

12. Chefchaouen

You might recognize this city from the famous photos of its bright blue buildings. Set against a wide valley and tucked between two peaks in the Rif Mountains, much of Chefchaouen was recreated by Andalusian refugees escaping the Reconquista, so it might remind you of the hills of Spain.

Get a chance to wander around this striking blue city on our  18 day Morocco Encompassed tour .

13. Tangier

The coastal town of Tangier is the gateway between the Mediterranean and Africa. Enjoy fresh seafood by the port, watch the sunset over the Atlantic or visit the Caves of Hercules.

Explore the Gateway to Africa on our  9 day North Morocco Adventure.

Morocco has one of the oldest retail cultures in the world. From bargaining in age-old souqs to swiping your credit card at a modern gallery, it's all possible in Morocco. But to experience brilliant bargains, exciting finds, and a dose of history, you can't go past the souqs.

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country.   Australia   and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.

Things to buy in Morocco

1. Silver jewelry

Jewelry fiends will love Morocco's affinity with silver jewelry. Chunky rings, elaborate necklaces, and patterned earrings can all be found for great prices, especially if you're willing to haggle.

Save room in your backpack for an iconic silver teapot and some delicate tea glasses. Morocco's silversmiths have this ancient art running through their veins, with centuries of craftsmanship being passed from generation to generation.

The quality (and price) of leather in Morocco is pretty phenomenal. Handcrafted handbags, wallets, belts, and purses can be found in almost every souq around the country.

Festivals and events

Ramadan and eid.

The ninth and holiest of months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed by most in Morocco and is thought to be a time of spiritual rejuvenation. For this month, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset - refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours. Eid marks the end of fasting with 3 days of feasting and celebration.

Gnaoua World Music Festival

Seaside Essaouira hosts this world-famous festival that celebrates the mysterious music of the Gnaouas, brought to Morocco centuries ago via the African slave trade. Jazz, rock, blues, and pop music add a contemporary flavor, although the drums of the Gnaouas are the true soul of the festival.

Casablanca Festival

Touted as a 'celebration of all things Moroccan', this annual festival includes local and international music performances, dance, art installations, theatre, workshops, and street parades. This fusion of history and modernity, innovation and tradition is a shining example of what it means to be a citizen of cosmopolitan Casablanca.

What is the internet access like in Morocco?

Morocco's cities have internet access available in internet cafes and hotel lobbies. In some cases, free Wi-Fi can be accessed in public places. Less internet access is available in rural areas, so be prepared to 'disconnect' when traveling out of Morocco's big cities.

Cell phone coverage is generally very good in Morocco's cities and metropolitan areas, although coverage can be limited in remote or mountainous areas. Ensure you have global roaming activated with your carrier if you wish to use your phone while in Morocco.

Is Morocco a safe destination for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

We recommend LGBTQIA+ travelers exercise discretion when traveling in Morocco as homosexuality is not widely accepted in the community. Homosexual acts (including kissing) are illegal in Morocco and can attract a fine or even a jail sentence for offenders. That said, some towns (such as Marrakech and Tangier) are considered more gay-friendly than others. As long as travelers use discretion and avoid public displays of affection, travel in Morocco should not be a problem.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or   ILGA  before you travel.

If you are traveling solo on an Intrepid group tour, you will share accommodation with a passenger of the same gender as per your passport information. What should I wear in Morocco?

While Moroccan days are generally mild-to-hot or hot-and-humid, they can give way to cooler nights – outside of the summer months, anyway. Packing layers and sensible footwear to deal with Morocco's changeable climate, uneven paths and conservative culture is always a good idea.

F emale travelers aren't expected to dress as conservatively as local women, but it’s still a good idea to pack clothing options that will allow you to cover up.

How will I get around Morocco?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun.

7 days in morocco travel itinerary: one week tour.

A 7 Days in Morocco Itinerary offers a whirlwind immersion into a rich tapestry of experiences. Beginning in Marrakech, the city’s vibrant chaos and cultural allure unfold in the maze-like alleys of the Medina and the captivating Jemaa el-Fnaa square. The one week in Morocco journey ventures towards the Sahara, where the endless dunes of Merzouga invite an otherworldly adventure, culminating in a night under the desert sky.

Moving onwards, the dramatic Todra Gorge’s rugged beauty leaves an indelible mark before delving into the ancient allure of Ait Ben Haddou’s storied kasbah. Essaouira’s coastal tranquility offers a soothing contrast, a chance to unwind amidst its seaside charm and labyrinthine streets. The Morocco itinerary for 7 days draws to a close in Casablanca, where the grandeur of the Hassan II Mosque stands testament to both modernity and tradition, leaving echoes of Morocco’s diverse and captivating spirit.

7-day itinerary: Is a 1-week tour enough in Morocco?

While a week in Morocco offers a glimpse into its diverse landscapes and cultural richness, the country’s depth and breadth of experiences could warrant more time. With the 7 Days in Morocco Itinerary, you can explore key highlights like Marrakech, the Sahara Desert, Todra Gorge, Ait Ben Haddou, Essaouira, and Casablanca, but it’s a tight schedule. The distances between some of these locations can be significant, and travel times can consume a portion of your days.

Additionally, Morocco’s allure lies in its depth—each city, town, or landscape has its unique charm and attractions, which might tempt you to linger longer. If you’re looking to cover the essentials and get a taste of Morocco’s diverse offerings, a Morocco tour for 7 days can be a fantastic introduction. However, if you prefer a more relaxed pace or wish to explore more off-the-beaten-path locations, extending your stay would allow for a more immersive experience.

Testimonials: 7 Days Tour in Morocco Itinerary Reviews:

7 days desert tour from casablanca to marrakech review:, 7 days desert tour from tangier to marrakech review:.

I had Aziz assigned as my driver in my solo 7 days trip from Tanger to Marrakech via the Desert in Merzouga. I was skeptical at first before my trip as I always travel independently, but it turns out to be the highlight of my trip!

Aziz is always on time and make the looooong driving easy and fun. As a solo female traveler I feel absolutely safe even dozing off several times without having worried about waking up in weird places. He also treats his wife, aka his car, very well so the vehicle is in a good condition. If I have the luck to travel to Morocco again I will definitely look for him. The company is also very efficient in communication in email or WhatsApp. You can select your preferred accommodation from a list and all the places I stayed in are pretty nice. Thank you so much Lovely Morocco Tours for this wonderful experience

week in Marrakech seven-day excursion from Marrakech, Top 7 days trip from Marrakech

Lovely trip around the highlights of Morocco in a relatively short time made possible by Said even though we encountered challenging weather. We were driven around the country by the fantastic Youssef who took great care of us everywhere we went. Even though we had a setback because of the weather, everything went very smooth and we could still relax because everything was well coordinated and taken care of by Said and Youssef. In 5 days we visited Marrakech, Ait Benhaddou, Todra Gorge, Merzouga desert, Fes and Chefchauen amongst several other stops where we could truly experience the local Moroccan and Berber culture. The highlight of the trip was certainly the night spent in the luxury camp in the desert where we were hosted by Mohammed who is a great example of Moroccan hospitality. The luxury camp is indeed amazing and surprisingly comfortable! Well done guys and keep up your good work. A big thank you to Youssef for the very long distance driving and for managing the itinerary in such a short timeframe. If I will come back to Morocco, I will certainly contact Said for another unforgettable experience.

To anyone coming to Morocco, I can only recommend doing this tour with Addi. We booked a 7 day trip to the desert and back to Marrakech. As we were planing on going to the rural areas and villages we were glad to have a local guide who knows the best spots and can inform us about the Moroccan traditions. Addi is the best guide any touist can ask for. He is extremly helpful, warm hearted, organized and was always willing to tell us his personal experiences. This made the tour an absolute highlight. The hotels were all super and the camping in the desert was a memory we will never forget. Morocco has definitely stolen our hearts!!!

For New Year we visited Morocco for 10 nights with Addi. It was the most amazing tour one could imagine. Addi organized a fantastic tour for us, in 10 days we visited

Marrakech Ait Benhaddou which is a UNESCO world heritage site (where many films were shot) Ouarzazate Dades and Todra Gorges, we drove through Tizi-n-Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains Merzouga Sahara (spent 2 incredible days in a luxury camp), we did sand boarding, 4×4 safari, visited Nomad family, went twice on the camel on the dessert dunes, saw the sunrise and sunset in the desert, had fantastic dinner at the camp and after live Berber music and dancing around camp fire Erfoud, Ziz Valley and Midelt

We 3 girls from Italy traveled to Morocco for 5 days (from Marrakech to the desert and all the way to Fes. The experience was OUTSTANDING, we visited many sites of interest; starting from the Atlas Mountain and Ait Ben Haddou kasbah , Hollywood, Africa then to the Sahara desert where we experienced the camel ride to the camp through big dunes enjoying the sunset, and sunrise. Our driver, Addi (he is the best!!) was really knowledgeable, he also have been supersympathetic and kind, he explained everything about their country and Berbers, my thanks to you Addi for the best experience you gave us and what you shared with us, it was great. You made us feel like ‘home away from home’ you made us feel so safe, you took care of us like our own. Thank you so much!!

If you are in dilemma between group tour and private tour, we will strongly recommend the private tour because you can tailor it the way you want to.. number of stops, duration, and get a personalized experience.

I recommend everyone to do this tour with this company, they are the BEST! & ask for Addi as your driver/ guide, you will have an experience you will remember forever!

Ali and Addi were amazing! My best friend and I decided (on a whim) to take a trip to Morocco and visit Marrakech and Casablanca. Even before the trip, Days Morocco Tours were extremely responsive and catered to our every desire in preparation! Even during the trip they made sure we were seeing everything we had planned on! Their attention to detail was impeccable, and we felt safe and supported while we were with them. They provided great insight into Berber and Moroccan culture the entire time. We felt like we got the most out of our short trip with a visit to the Atlas Mountains and overnight stay, camel riding, a visit to a Berber home, cooking class, a special tour through the Marrakech markets, trip to Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Rick’s Cafe, etc. (all in 3 days!) it was absolutely amazing, and we can’t wait to return!! Great value, great service, unforgettable experience.
