Niagara City Cruises

Niagara City Cruises is Niagara Falls’ only boat tour that takes you right up to the mighty plummeting waterfalls. Complimentary ponchos are available for guests to keep dry on board, as the boat travels right into the mist so you’re bound to get a little wet. The Voyage to the Falls tour takes approximately 20 minutes and features an audio commentary sharing fun facts about the natural wonder. Other cruise options include the popular evening Falls Fireworks Cruise, a 40 minute trip to the base of the falls with great view of the city skyline, the summer fall fireworks display and the Falls Illumination.

Purchase tickets in advance online or in person at any of Niagara Parks ticketing windows. Start your tour at the Niagara City Cruises Funicular at the intersection of Niagara Parkway and River Road, located at the bottom of Clifton Hill. Tickets requiring wheelchair access must be purchased on-site at the Main Ticket Plaza on the Niagara Parkway.

For up-to-date information and details on Niagara City Cruises, we recommend you visit their website . For information about other places of interest to explore nearby, keep scrolling to see what Destination Ontario recommends.

Accessibility Features

Wheelchair accessible, universal washroom, support persons welcome, service animals welcome, information available in alternative format, elevator access, accessible washroom, accessible drop-off location, accessible transportation, accessible seating, accessible entrances/exits, more about niagara city cruises.

The Niagara City Cruises tour actually begins on land at the Niagara Funicular. Originally opened in 1984 under the name Clifton Incline Railway, the funicular had been non-operational for almost 30 years until Niagara City Cruises brought it back to life in 2019. The new, stat- of-the-art funicular was reconstructed and installed along the Great Gorge wall. Visitors access the boarding area via the funicular which drops 56 metres (19 stories) along the rock wall of the Niagara Gorge, offering spectacular views of the falls.

Located in the boarding and disembarking area, Riverside Patio is a full service, seasonal restaurant and patio bar operated by Niagara City Cruises. It’s a great spot to start or end your Niagara City Cruise excursion.

Niagara Falls is made up of three waterfalls, with the Horseshoe Falls located on the Canadian side and the American and Bridal Veil Falls located across the border. Both of the Niagara City Cruises signature tours offer exceptional views of the Horseshoe and American Falls as well as the Niagara Gorge.

You can experience the thunderous beauty of this natural wonder of the world up close and personal via the tiered decks or opt for viewing behind the glass walls for a waterproof experience. The bright red and biodegradable ponchos help keep you dry while also doubling as an easy to pack and reusable raincoat.

Niagara City Cruises staff and crew are fully trained on safety protocols and each watercraft is certified by Transport Canada. Additionally, the full fleet of watercraft is ADA compliant and fully accessible. Private charters, functions, or events aboard the Niagara Guardian 145 passenger capacity watercraft can be arranged.

Gain access to boarding at the Niagara City Cruises Ticket Plaza (5920 Niagara Parkway) or via the Funicular booth (intersection of Niagara Parkway and Clifton Hill). Ample parking is available next to the WEGO Transit stop.

Looks like there are no tips. Be the first one to add a tip to help people enjoy!

Most helpful positive review, most helpful critical review.

A trip to Niagara Falls is not complete without a signature ride on the great Niagara City Cruises (formerly operated by Maid of the Mist). Whether you’re traveling with family, your significant other, or friends, this famous Niagara Falls boat ride is a “must-do” while visiting the area.

Experience the refreshing mist on your skin as you take a 20-minute magical ride along the Niagara River. Niagara City Cruises departs from the Canadian side of the Falls and pass by the Great Gorge, American Falls, and Canadian Horseshoe Falls.

* Thanks to our classic Canadian winters, this cruise operates seasonally. While exact dates vary annually, it typically runs from April or May until late November.

Hop On A Hornblower Niagara Boat Tour !

Best Time to Visit

The cruise is seasonal, running from April or May until late November, so it's recommended you visit during these months to experience the best views of the city on a scenic cruise! The exact dates change every year so make sure to keep an eye out for the dates and times during which the cruise operates.

What to Know

Hornblower Cruises is the official boat tour supplier to Niagara Parks offering a 20-minute "Voyage to the Falls" boat tour that will be the best 20 minutes of your life! The cruises set sail from the Canadian side of the Niagara River and will take you through some great scenic adventures including the panoramic vista of Niagara Gorge, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Canadian Horseshoe Falls. You'll have access to two ships here, Niagara Wonder and Niagara Thunder, both with a capacity to seat 700 tourists!

How to Get There

Hornblower Niagara Cruises is nestled at 5920 Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, Ontario, L2E 6X8. You can easily spot the entrance in Queen Victoria Park if you take a short walk from the bottom of Clifton Hill. The best way to reach this spot is by booking a guided tour that departs from the Canadian side of the Falls, passing multiple points of interest such as the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Canadian Horseshoe Falls, and the Great Gorge. A helicopter tour of Niagara is a bonus with this 20-minute cruise along the scenic Niagara River!

Being an official supplier, Niagara City Cruises is located in Niagara Falls, Canada, making it one of the things you don't want to miss out on when you visit this picturesque city! Be mesmerized by the serenity around you as you feel the thunderous roar of the cruises departing from the Canadian side of the beautiful Niagara River! Enjoy spectacular views of the Niagara Gorge, American Falls, Canadian Horseshoe Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls! Be dazzled by the illumination of the Falls as the sun dips into the horizon! Relish the light mist experience on your skin as the night wraps itself around you! See the brilliance of sparkling lights on the Falls Fireworks Cruise!

A Niagara Falls Boat Tour is a must if you're visiting this gorgeous city! There's no other way you can get up close and personal with the famous Canadian waterfalls than by setting sail on the great Hornblower Cruises. As you depart from the waters of Niagara River, you'll see a spectacular vista spread out before you: the majestic Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Great Gorge all waiting for you to take in their beauty!

Aside from the 20-minute Voyage to the Falls boat tour, another tour popular among sightseers is the Falls Fireworks Cruise. See the whimsical starry night lit up with fireworks and the illumination from the Falls on this 40-minute cruise! Whether you prefer sailing during the day to admire the natural beauty of the waterfalls or cruising around the Niagara River at night to see the illuminated Falls juxtaposed with the darkness of the horizon — Hornblower Cruises has it all!

Hornblower Cruises commenced its journey in 1974 on the waters in Berkeley, California with just two ships. By 1980, the course of its operation shifted a bit when it was sold by the original owner, Ward Proescher, to P. Michael Watson and Terry MacRae while starting a competitor company in the Bay Area. But by 1989, Hornblower had expanded quickly by annexing other charter yacht businesses active in San Diego, San Francisco, Newport Beach, and Marina del Rey. The headquarters of the company were (and still are) nestled on the historic Steel Electric-class Santa Rosa ferry anchored at Pier 3 in San Francisco.

When Terry MacRae solely owned the company in 1992, it was renamed Hornblower Cruises & Events to reflect that the cruise wasn't just operating for businesses but for special events as well such as film shoots, weddings, parties, and more! Fast forward to 2019, this enterprise acquired Entertainment Cruises doubling the number of ferries and locations where they operated. Today, Hornblower's fleet consists of over 80 ships and sails from 19 different ports — quite a leap from the 2 ships the company started from!

Just recently, the Hornblower Canada Company started operating the Niagara Falls Cruises by the name of Niagara Falls Gorge Boat Tour from the Canadian side of the picturesque Niagara River near the great Niagara Falls. These cruises were previously operated by the Maid of the Mist, which now sails out of Niagara Falls, New York on the American side of the Niagara River. Niagara Falls Cruises have two ships with a capacity to seat 700 passengers each — Niagara Wonder and Niagara Thunder.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

niagara city cruises by owner

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
