New York City is among the best places to visit in the USA and it’s no wonder there are multiple passes available for the most popular attractions. We created this New York passes comparison to help you decide which one you should purchase because this is a great way to save money when visiting the city.

In this guide, we’re going to show you the best New York passes compared including pros and cons for each one as well as exclusive discounts.

Our NYC Experience

Kristen is a  New York state native  and  we lived in NYC for a few months in 2021 . We chose to move to the city so we could create the best possible content because you can’t just visit New York City for a weekend and claim to be an expert. Read more  about us .

When we lived here, we used the New York CityPASS , C3 Pass and the NY Sightseeing Pass in the city ourselves. We caption our personal photos in this guide with the corresponding attractions we visited with each pass. Additionally, we’ve used the Go City Pass in Rome , London and Paris so we’re extremely familiar with how these passes work.

Before using the passes ourselves, we had a lot of questions just like you which is probably why you’re reading this comparison. Our goal is to make this the best guide on the internet to help you choose the best New York attraction pass for your trip to the city.

High Level Overview

Before we get into the comparison of the New York attraction passes, it’s important to understand how these passes work . If you’re already used a pass, feel free to skip down to our comparison. But if you’ve never used a pass, be sure to read the next few sections before making a decision.

A NY pass will give you instant access to the most iconic landmarks, museums, observation decks, walking tours and boat cruises at a heavily discounted price. We like to compare these passes to buying in bulk because the more attractions you visit, the more you’ll save.

There are three main attraction pass companies including NY Sightseeing Pass, New York CityPASS and Go City New York. Each of these companies offer various options so you have a total of 7 New York passes to choose from .

Once you purchase a NYC pass, you’ll instantly receive an email with the pass and you’ll have about 12 to 24 months to activate it. You can also download your attraction pass in the corresponding app or use a printed version of the pass. The choice is really up to you, but we found it easier to have the pass on our phones because we couldn’t forget it.

An pass is considered active once it has been scanned at the first attraction via QR code . However, major attractions will require reservations on a timed entry system. So if you’ve made a reservation, you’ll have to show your timed entry reservation along with your New York pass.

Travel Tip : Attraction reservations will be often required or recommended. You should always make reservations even if they are recommended to help secure a time slot.

Day Versus Attraction Passes

The two types of NYC passes you can purchase are a day based or attraction based option . Let’s take a closer look at each type including pros and cons.

A day based pass is purchased around the total number of days you want to explore . This option is good for visitors who want to do as much as possible in a short amount of time. With this pass, there is no limit to the amount of attractions you can visit per day, but you’ll be limited by time .

Now we’re going to throw a wrench in the works because there are two different types of NY attraction passes . Here are the options:

With this pass, you’re limited to the number of attractions but you have plenty of time to visit each one.

Is There A Catch?

Like all things that save you money, there is a catch when purchasing a NY attraction pass . The purpose of the pass is to save money by bundling attractions and you’ll have to put in the work to get the most out of your pass.

Additionally, you can’t reserve time slots in advance for every attraction . So if you plan to visit in summer when tourism is at its peak, you’ll have to take this into consideration when planning your New York itinerary or you may have to contend with long lines. For example, when we visited New York in April , we never had to wait lines .

But since we have experience using all of these passes in the city ourselves, we can tell you they are legit. When you do the research , they will save you both time and money . We created this NYC passes comparison to help you have an amazing trip to the city.

New York Attraction Pass Options

As we mentioned earlier, there are three popular New York attraction pass companies and two passes are essentially run by the same company:

• NY Sightseeing Pass
• Go City New York
• The New York Pass by Go City

Many of these companies offer multiples passes with day or attraction based options, so this is how we arrived at a comparison of 7 different NYC passes . While the names are very similar and can be confusing, once you take a deeper look into each option, you’ll notice subtle differences.

Below is a chart we created to show you an overview of each New York pass compared against each other. By looking at the information in this way, it’s easier to see the differences in each pass.

We’ll discuss all of these passes in detail throughout the rest of this guide, but it’s also important to consider the attractions because each pass offers different options.

Popular New York Attractions

New York City is one of the most sought after travel destinations in the world and there is so much to do as a first time visitor. Here are major attractions in the city:

As you can see from the graph, many of the top highlights are included on most passes. But if you want to visit a specific attraction, you have to make sure it’s included on the pass you wish to purchase.

Additionally, there are also a few important updates for 2024 you need to know:

• The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) is no longer included on any attraction pass. However, NY State residents or students based in NY, NJ or CT will receive free admission with a valid ID.
• The 9/11 Museum is no longer available on the NY Sightseeing Pass, but you can book a 9/11 Ground Zero Walking Tour with this pass. You can reserve a timed entry ticket on the official website or with Get Your Guide , Viator and Tiqets .
• New York’s newest observation deck SUMMIT One Vanderbilt features numerous immersive exhibits and stunning views over Manhattan, but it’s not currently available on any NY pass. You can book tickets on the official website or with Get Your Guide , Viator and Tiqets .

Even if you’ve already seen the top attractions, a New York City attractions pass can still be a good option for you because there are several museums and unique activities included . We used several of these passes when we lived in the city and still couldn’t visit all of the attractions.

How To Choose Between DAY Or FLEX

Before purchasing this pass, you’ll have to decide between a day or attraction option . If you want the most flexibility, buy the DAY pass. If you only want to visit a few attractions or are planning to visit New York for a longer period of time, buy a FLEX pass because you have 60 days of validity.

We loved using our DAY pass to run around the city and check off many top attractions because it was a fun way to explore the city. At checkout, you’ll choose between 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 days . However, to get the most of out this pass you’ll need to make reservations and plan your days out.

The FLEX option is good for visitors who want to take their trip a little slower and visit NYC with less pressure. During checkout, you’ll decide between 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 or 12 attractions . No matter how many attractions you purchase, you then have 60 days to visit all of them once your pass is activated.

Is The NY Sightseeing Pass Worth It?

Yes, we think the NY Sightseeing Pass is worth it because this company offers the most attractions and cheaper prices even without our discount . Sightseeing Pass does a great job staying competitive in the market with new attractions and discounts every year.

The NY Sightseeing Pass is our favorite option because you get the most bang for your buck. We love the large amount of top attractions available on this pass including unique activities such as the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium. A DAY pass would be good for first time visitors who want to see all of New York’s top attractions . This would also be good for families visiting with children .

We’ve used CityPASS in major cities across the United States including Seattle , Denver and San Francisco and New York City. This pass is different from the others because it offers specific attractions at a set price point .

You can choose between the New York C3 Pass or the New York CityPASS which offer 3 and 5 attractions respectively. It’s often a cheaper option, but the catch is you’ll be limited to a very small number of attractions. Here is a quick overview:

• 9 day validity
• With CityPASS, you choose 5 out of 8 attractions but 2 are non-negotiable
• With the C3 Pass, you choose 3 out of 10 attractions
• Adult prices range from  $96 and $138
• Child prices range from  $74 and $118

We like CityPASS because it’s a basic option offering the top attractions in the city. However, the downside to this pass is that you’ll only have a few attractions to choose from. Below you’ll find a chart we created to help you easily understand your options with CityPASS.

So in a nutshell, these are the popular attractions included in the New York CityPASS:

• 9/11 Museum

But depending on the pass you buy, you won’t be able to visit all of these activities. The New York C-All Pass allows you to visit 10 attractions at a good price. But if you compare this to the other options, we think your money will be better spent on the other NY Sightseeing or Go City options because you’ll be able to pick from 100+ attractions instead of 10.

How To Choose Between A C3 Or CityPASS

Before purchasing this pass, you’ll have to decide how many attractions you want to visit . If you want to visit 5 attractions, buy the CityPASS. If you want to visit 3 attractions, but the C3 Pass. But no matter which pass you purchase, you’ll have 9 days to visit each attraction .

We used both a CityPASS and C3 Pass in the city. The biggest difference is the number of attractions offered on each pass so we recommend you figure out what attractions you want to visit. If you want to visit the Edge or the Modern Museum of Art (MoMa), you’ll need to purchase the C3 Pass.

Is The New York CityPASS Worth It?

Yes, we think the New York CityPASS is worth it only if you want to see 3-5 top attractions in the city . This company offers a cheaper option, but you won’t have many attractions to choose from. CityPASS is unique because it focuses on the top NYC attractions which might be attractive for some visitors.

The New York CityPASS is our second favorite option because you can see top attractions at a cheap price point . While there are only a few attractions on this pass, we like the simple concept. We also like their user friendly website and we’ve been partners with them for years.

A CityPASS is good for visitors who want to see the top highlights in New York . But keep in mind you must visit the Empire State Building and the American Museum of Natural History. However, you can visit the ESB twice in the same day and you’ll also receive entry into both the permanent and special exhibits inside the history museum. We used this pass when we lived in the city and liked that we could visit each attraction at a slow pace.

The C3 Pass is a lighter version of the CityPASS which is good for visitors who only want to see 3 attractions in the city . After using this pass, we think it’s very limiting compared to the NY Sightseeing FLEX or the Go City New York Explorer pass. But if you want to see the attraction on the pass, it could be worth it for you. Use this pass if you want to visit the MoMA or Edge .

Go City New York Pass

Go City offers attraction passes in major cities around the world. We’ve used these in Paris, London and Rome so we know how these work. The Go City New York Pass is set up very similar to the NY Sightseeing Pass. There is a day based option called the All-Inclusive Pass and an attraction based option called the Explorer Pass . Here is a quick overview:

All-Inclusive Pass :

• 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 10 day validity
• 103 attractions to choose from
• Adult prices range from $150 to $401
• Child prices range from $110 to $286

We like Go City because it offers a large amount of activities . Here are the popular attractions included:

Another feature of this pass is the exclusive attractions including Yankees tickets . All of the other attractions are the same as the NY Sightseeing Pass with the exception of the 9/11 Museum . There are also no special discounts on other experiences in the city.

How To Choose Between All-Inclusive Or Explorer

Similar to the NY Sightseeing Pass,  you’ll have to decide between a day or attraction option . If you want the most flexibility, buy the All-Inclusive pass. If you only want to visit a few attractions or are planning to visit New York for a longer time period, buy the Explorer pass because you have 60 days of validity.

The All-Inclusive Pass will give you the most options because it features 103 attractions, but you’ll be limited by time. During checkout, you’ll choose between 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 10 days . We highly recommend you make reservations and plan out your days to make the most of this pass.

The Explorer option is good for those visitors who only want to see some of the top attractions. At checkout, you’ll pick between 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 attractions , but then you have 60 days to visit all of the attractions on the pass.

Is The Go City New York Pass Worth It?

Yes, we think the Go City New York Pass is worth it because you can choose from numerous attractions and this pass will save you money. However, Go City are typically higher priced passes and they don’t offer as much choice as the NY sightseeing Pass with the exception being the 9/11 Museum.

The Go City New York Pass is our least favorite option because it can be expensive . However, compared to the New York CityPASS, you have more attraction options. We also don’t like how Go City inflates attraction prices on their website.

An All-Inclusive pass would be good for first time visitors who want to see as much as possibl e or families with children . This pass is very similar to the NY Sightseeing DAY Pass and The New York Pass so be sure to compare prices as well as attractions.

An Explorer pass would be good for visitors who want to see select attractions or visitors who are interested in museums . We think this is also good for returning visitors who want to see unique attractions. This pass is very similar to the NY Sightseeing FLEX Pass so compare prices and attractions before purchasing.

If you’re looking for the Big Bus New York  with hop-on hop-off option, it’s included on the Go City New York Pass. This will help you travel through Manhattan’s Uptown and Downtown loops. But be sure to read our tips at the end of this guide regarding the Big Bus tour.

The New York Pass

This last pass is essentially the same as Go City’s All-Inclusive pass because it’s owned by Go City. Prices and attractions are identical to the pass we just discussed and there are no attraction based options available. Here is a quick overview:

Personally, we’d purchase the NY Sightseeing Pass over this option because it’s a cheaper price with more flexibility and attractions. But if you want to visit the 9/11 Museum as one of your attractions, this might be a good option for you.

This is an extensive NY pass comparison, but we love to help our readers save money because that means you have more money for travel! So in order to make the most of your pass, here are a few tips to consider for your trip:

• We don’t recommend using Big Bus as your means of transportation around the city if you have a day pass because you’ll be limited by bus schedules and traffic. You should use the subway to make the most of your time. Walking tours, bike rentals or boat tours would be a good option.
• Big Bus tours could work for visitors using an attractions pass because this would count as one of your attractions. However, make sure you look at the routes before using the bus to maximize your time.
• Some passes offer special offers and discounts so read the fine print . This could save you extra money on experiences, shops and restaurants.
• We could average about three attractions per day if we used the subway and visited attractions that were located close to each other. Keep in mind, most attractions are open from 10:00-6:00pm with a few exceptions such as the New York city observation decks .
• Verify attractions on the official websites with our links . New York City is always evolving and new attractions open every year so sometimes other attractions become unavailable.
• Always make reservations when possible , especially if you visit in the peak summer season. New York is a very busy place and if don’t make reservations, you’ll be waiting in long lines.
• Visit the expensive attractions to get the most out of your pass . This includes the Empire State Building, Edge, The Ride, One World Observatory, Big Bus, various walking tours and more.
• You can find seasonal activities such as the Rink at Rockefeller Center and Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour on NY Sightseeing and Go City options.

What About Fast Track Or Skip The Line?

In our experience using these passes, we never had to wait in line for any attraction because we made advanced reservations and avoided peak times . The most popular attractions will require a timed entry ticket therefore fast track or skip the line are a moot point. If you can’t make a reservation, you should plan to visit that attraction early in the morning at opening time before it gets busy. However, you might have to wait in a security line which is unavoidable.

How Much Money Can You Save?

Depending on the pass you purchase, you can save 20-60% . But be sure to shop around to find the pass that better suits your needs such as a day or attraction based option.

What Is The Best Way To Purchase A New York Pass?

You should purchase your attraction pass online because you’ll receive the pass instantly via email. This way you can start making reservations for your attractions straight away. Always purchase the passes from the official websites (links in this guide) or reputable third parties like Get Your Guide and Viator .

Are NY Passes Legit?

Yes, the New York passes are legit because we’ve personally worked with NY Sightseeing, CityPASS and Go City. We have also used the passes in the city ourselves. These passes can save you both time and money if you take the time to plan your trip.

Hi! I love your posts. You helped me a lot with my out west trip 2 years ago. We are going to NYC -5 of us in June. Debating the passes. Can you help me understand which of the NY sightseeing pass I should get – flex or day – want to do 9/11 museum for sure and I read about the issue with this pass. With either- do I need to book 9/11 directly with the museum ? We will be there 6/7-11. Any thoughts on which pass you would buy ? The New York Pass is a smart card that has the size of a credit card. The New York Pass grants you access to 80+ attractions in New York City without spending extra cash for your ticket. All you have to do at the sightseeing attraction is to show your New York Pass and receive your ticket. The New York Pass is being activated once you visit the first attraction. In our case today, it is valid for three calendar days. With the 3-Day NYC Pass, you can visit as many attractions as you want to which offers you a lot of flexibility and lots of savings during your New York City trip.

Why you should have a 3-day itinerary for your New York Pass

There are a few reasons why you should have a plan using a 3 day NYC pass. First, the New York Pass only works on three conservative days. Having a 3-day itinerary for your New York Pass helps you to save the most out of your New York Pass for 3 days.

Don’t skip a day and use the pass as often as possible. Knowing which attractions are included in the pass is crucial. But, we think it is important to still enjoy your time and don’t stress too much about the 3-day pass for NYC. This is why we created this 3-day New York itinerary in a way, that you’ll visit the most expensive and fun NYC attractions but you’ll also have enough time to soak it all in.

The Perfect Itinerary For Your New York Trip

This itinerary contains over 50 spots and highlights of the city, including a map that shows you the best way to travel each day, taking you to or past the many big attractions. In addition, we‘ve added our favorite places, from great breakfast spots to start your day right to small bars and restaurants and hidden insider spots.

What awaits you here now is the perfect New York week, because this is what my itinerary would look like if I were visiting the Big Apple for the first or second time right now!

What to pay attention to while using the 3-Day New York Pass

Our 3-day itinerary for the New York Pass is structured and designed in a way that you can experience the itinerary all year long. There are a few minor exceptions that you have to pay attention to:

• Some sightseeing cruises have different hours of operations in the summer than in the winter.
• Cruises are running more often in the summer than in the winter.
• The main NYC attractions are open all year with no changes during the seasons.
• Holidays may interfere with your plans. Check special opening hours on a holiday in New York City.

3-Day New York Pass: Our favorite 3-day New York itinerary

Before I start diving deeper into the 3-Day New York Pass itinerary, here’s an overview of the NYC sightseeing attractions, museums, and tours, that will be a part of your 3 day NYC pass schedule.

Day – Hop-On Hop-Off, Food Tour & Top of the Rocks

• Times Square
• Hop-On Hop-Off Downtown
• Statue of Liberty Sightseeing Cruise
• Bryant Park & New York Public Library
• Food on Foot Tour

Top of the Rock & Rockefeller Center Tour

Times square & hop-on hop-off bus tour.

We start off the day right with a visit to the famous Times Square in Midtown Manhattan . They call it the crossroads of the world and it for sure is one of the highlights that you have to experience when traveling to New York City.

Right after it’s time to hop on one of the NYC sightseeing busses near Times Square and start your 3-Day New York Pass. With the New York Pass, you can enjoy the Hop on Hop off Busses for an entire day. It’s a great way to get around the city and explore as much as possible during the bus tour at the same time.

Walk your way over from Times Square to the Big Bus Stop on the corner of  W 42nd Street and Broadway .

The buses leave every 15 minutes from 8 AM in the morning until 6 PM at night.

Pick the Downtown Route.

If you want you can stay on the bus until you’re back to the starting location, or you can hop on and off as much as you want to.

These are a few NYC sightseeing attractions that you will get to see along the way:

5th Avenue Midtown, Times Square, Empire State Building, Flatiron District, Union Square, Greenwich Village, NoHo, SoHo , Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge, World Trade Center, Battery Park, South Street Seaport, Lower East Side, United Nations Building, Rockefeller Center and many more.

Great option: Statue of Liberty Cruise, Statue of Liberty Museum &  Ellis Island Immigration Museum

If you’re interested in Miss Liberty, get off in Lower Manhattan during the bus tour and use your New York Pass for a cruise to the Statue of Liberty. Enjoy the famous landmark, amazing city views and learn so much about her history at the new Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. Take the ferry to Ellis Island for a visit to the exciting Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

The Hop on Hop off Bus will take you back from Lower Manhattan to Midtown after you are done with your visit to the Statue of Liberty.

Bryant Park & Food on Foot Tour

Back to your starting point near Times Square, make your way over to Bryant Park . The popular park in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan is a great location to relax and feel like a local for a minute. New Yorkers come here for their lunch break, a date or just to read a book.

Right next to the park there’s the New York Public Library and you can see the Chrysler Building as well as the Empire State Building if you look up to the sky. After a few moments of relaxation, it is time for the Food on Foot Tour. In order to sign up for the tour, you have to secure your spot on the Food on Foot Tour website beforehand. We really love the  Midtown Mix Food Tour , which starts right at  Penn Station (20 minutes walk from Bryant Park).

During the tour, a local guide takes you behind the scenes of the best food spots in Midtown Manhattan and you’re able to taste the New Yorker cuisine at 5-6 different spots. The tour ends at Times Square.

With a full stomach, we are heading further Uptown to Rockefeller Center to finish up the day with one of the best views in Manhattan at Top of the Rock.

Our advice : If you don’t feel like walking, the Big Bus will take you there as well.

Great option: Rockefeller Center Tour

If there’s enough time before sunset, check out Rockefeller Center during a free tour with the 3-Day New York Pass. Peak behind the scenes of the famous New Yorker building. Tours are being held every day, every 30 minutes from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM expect 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM.

Top of the Rock Observation Deck

Try to visit the Top of the Rock Observation Deck during sunset to take advantage of the best light, views, and photos. It’s a magical time to watch the sunset over the Manhattan skyline and something you should get to see when visiting the Big Apple.

Enjoy the amazing sunset at Top of the Rock

Top of the Rock offers stunning views of Central Park, the Empire State Building and the city and will be the perfect ending of your first day of our 3-day New York itinerary with the New York Pass.

Day 2 – Boat tour, 9/11 Memorial & The Ride

Sightseeing Cruise

After unforgettable views of the city during sunset last night, day 2 begins with a fun sightseeing cruise on the Hudson River . Included in your 3-Day New York Pass experience this boat tour is one of our favorite things to do when it’s nice out.

The cruise starts at  Pier 83 on the West Side Highway.

You will enjoy this sightseeing tour so much because you will get so see so much that NYC has to offer. From the impressive Manhattan skyline with the newly developed Hudson Yards , the Vessel, the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Governors Island and much more.

Visit a museum in NYC: The 9/11 Memorial Museum & MoMa

After checking many main NYC attractions off your list already, it is time for a visit to the museum. You’ll have a lot of options with the New York Pass but we really want to express our recommendations for two excellent museums in the city.

First of all, the 9/11 Memorial Museum near One World Trade Center is one of a kind and even though it is a deeply emotional and sad experience, it is so worth going. You can pay your tribute to the endless victims of September 11, 2001, learn more about how it was like to be in New York on that day back in 2001 and most importantly find out more about the victims, and how the city was rebuilt after these tragic events.

For the lovers of art and design, make your way over to Midtown Manhattan to visit the just recently renovated Museum of Modern Arts . A lot has changed at the MoMA after the reopening in 2019 and you should definitely check it out.

If you can’t get enough, the 3-Day New York Pass offers more museum opportunities that you can benefit from on day 3. One of my personal favorites is the Metropolitan Museum of Art near Central Park or the Museum of Natural History . They are all included in your New York Pass.

Day 3 – Empire State Building, Central Park & Sailing tour

• Met / Guggenheim / Madame Tussauds
• Sailing in New York

Your third and last day in New York starts off with a visit to the famous Empire State Building . It’s New York City’s landmark and should be on your list when you’re visiting New York City. Try and be there as early as 8:00 AM to skip the crowds and have the Empire almost to yourself.

Central Park Bikes

Enjoy the calmness of Central Park. Rent a bike and ride a loop around the park. With your 3-Day New York Pass, you can either join a guided bike tour or rent your bikes for free and explore the park on your own.

We always recommend guided tours since you’re getting more of the inside scoop and history background of the park. But you will also have a lot of fun on your own. It’s really up to you and your own preference. For more information about Central Park read our full guide.

Madame Tussauds

Now you have the choice between many of the museums that are also included in the New York Pass. As I mentioned earlier, if you have visited the MoMA, how about the Met or the Guggenheim Museum?

Or if you don’t feel too artsy, have some fun at Madame Tussauds in Midtown. I’m personally not the biggest fan of this attraction, but it is an option and I know, a lot of New York City visitors have it on their to-do-list.

Sailing to the Statue of Liberty

In case you’re leaving the city the next day, you can make the most of your last night in town with your 3-Day New York Pass. To experience something really special, hop on a sailing boat to the Statue of Liberty at night.

Please note that you have to make a reservation on the website of the New York Pass. Both sailing trips that are available only run between April and October. If you happen to be there on a Friday or Saturday, from the 31st of May until the 7th of September there is a night sailing tour at 9:15 PM. Get to see the NYC skyline at night. A scenery you’ll never forget.

Which New York Attraction Pass is Best?

This post reviews and explains the various options for NYC tourist passes that are available to you and to help you decide which (if any) are right for you. ( en español ) ( auf Deutsch )

There are so many tourist passes available in NYC that it can be difficult to decide which, if any, are good options for you.

Therefore, we recommend first deciding on what you want to do and will have the time for, before choosing which pass you would like. 

In other words, don’t necessarily let any tourist pass decide for you where to go, but certainly, get ideas from what is offered.

As local walking tour guides, we know first-hand the confusion that confronts visitors to New York who are looking to save some money on attractions and tours.

There are several different passes to choose from, and we have broken them down by type. 

Each pass has its own benefits and is slightly different from the others.

One of the biggest differences is which attractions and tours are included, but all passes (except CityPass) usually include the following:

If these are places you want to visit, then one of the tourist passes below is probably a no-brainer.

And remember, there are many more attractions and tours included in each pass.

An all-inclusive pass allows you to enjoy as many attractions, tours, and experiences as you can within a set number of days for one set price (think of an all-you-can-eat buffet). 

These are the most expensive types, but you could potentially save the most amount of money with these passes.

Then there are passes that allow you to choose a set # of attractions and tours .

These passes usually give you the option to choose, 3, 5, or more options from a large pool of options. 

These are a bit cheaper than all-inclusive and allow for flexibility, but your savings potential is lower. 

Another option is prepackaged passes (think set menu).  These are the most certain of all of the passes. 

Lastly, there are numerous hop-on-hop-off bus tour companies that offer their own combo deals .

ALL-INCLUSIVE PASSES

Currently, there are 2 all-inclusive passes available in New York City: the Sightseeing Pass and the  New York Pass .

These passes are like an all-you-can-eat menu.

You pay one flat price for the pass which is sold in increments of  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 days.  

With your pass, you can visit as many attractions as you want in the number of days you select.

So, the more efficiently you are visiting attractions and taking tours, the less you will pay per ticket.

You also get deals at a variety of shops, restaurants, and other attractions not included in the pass.

These passes come with skip-the-line privileges for many attractions. 

Both of these passes have a long list of attractions, tours, and museums included, though the lists are not identical.

Be sure to always look over the list of attractions carefully before choosing a pass to purchase. 

We've provided the average daily cost of each multiple attraction so that you can see how much of a deal you will get each day.

THE SIGHTSEEING PASS

The Sightseeing Pass is a credit card-like pass that you can use to visit over 100 attractions, walking tours, cruises, bus tours, and more.

You can choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 10 days.

A big highlight of this pass is that it is the only all-inclusive pass that includes One World Observatory as an attraction.

Some Things To Know About New York Pass

• The pass will be activated as soon as you use it at the first attraction
• The number of days that the pass is good for refers to calendar dates, not 24-hour periods.  For example, if you use the 1-day pass for the first attraction at 1 p.m., it still expires at midnight that night.
• It can only be used once at each attraction, so it cannot be shared between two people.
• Line-jumping privileges at 15 of the offered attractions.  For some attractions, such as Top of the Rock, this can save you quite a bit of time.
• The New York Pass includes over 100 attractions .
• Money-back guaranteed insurance is an extra 4.5% of the cost of the pass.

It is nice to have different options for time increments.

Is the Explorer Pass Right For You?

Both of the passes offered by Go City are good for 30 days, so if you have a longer stay in NYC and want to see things at a leisurely pace, this could be a good option for you.

Because this pass offers a set number of attractions, it is probably better for those who have a pretty good idea of what they want to see already.

While you don’t run a big risk with this pass of paying for more things than you can see, you do want to be reasonably sure that your selected number of attractions will be enough.

Also, because you pay based on the number of things you do rather than different attractions’ individual prices, like with the Go Select Pass, you should look at the actual prices of the things you are most interested in seeing.  

For example, if you buy a 3 Attraction Pass for $79.99 and then choose to go to the Empire State Building ($38), the Statue of Liberty Ferry ($18), and the Museum of the City of New York ($18), then you are actually paying more for the pass than you would to just purchase individual entry at each place.

So the Go City New York Explorer Pass can be a good deal for the right traveler, but it does require a little advanced research.

WHICH “PICK” PASS IS BETTER FOR ME?

All of these passes are pretty similar. Here are a few notable differences:

• The Flex Pass includes One World Observatory as an attraction but the Go City New York Explorer Pass does not.
• The Flex Pass actually includes admission to every major observation deck in New York City, including the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, and Edge.
• The Flex Pass has a much larger list of attractions to choose from (about 90) whereas the Go City New York Explorer Pass has around half that many.

As with all passes, make sure the attractions you want to see are included in the pass you purchase!

The American Museum of Natural History actually does not have a fixed admission.  

The prices listed are suggested donations, so you can actually pay anything you like that works in your budget.  

Also, the Museum of Modern Art offers “Free Fridays” from 5:30 p.m. to 9 pm, so if your trip includes a Friday, you could take advantage of that.

CREATE YOUR OWN TOURIST PASS

There are a couple of considerations that you should make before you purchase any tourist pass, considerations that may lead you to create your own pass.  

We explain below.

Inflated Prices

Keep in mind that the retail prices for each attraction or tour are usually inflated in order to cover the commissions that these attractions pay to the tourist pass companies.

With that said, you still stand to save money, and having everything you want in one place is also peace of mind.

There are almost always lower prices or packages available that lower the retail cost (we explain below).

Calculate Cost Per Hour

You need to calculate the cost per hour of each tour and attraction to make sure that you are getting the best value possible. 

You should make your calculations based on the actual best price and not the retail price (we explain in the examples below).

Be Realistic

Likewise, the suggested amount of time for each attraction and tour is usually the best-case scenario.

You may very well find that you need more time than is indicated and you may experience fewer options than you planned .

You need to calculate travel time between attractions as well as time for lunch and dinner.

When you have highly rated pay-what-you-wish tour options like  Free Tours by Foot , you don't need to consider tours available in passes.   

To show you what we mean, here is a breakdown of the average time you can expect to spend at various popular attractions in New York City:

Example #1 - Top of the Rock  

All passes suggest a duration of 1-2 hours, but you should count on 2, even with skip-the-line privileges, particularly in high tourist season.  

The retail price is $41/adult. Based on this, you appear to be getting $20/hr/adult value.  

However, if you're only interested in the view, you could just visit Bar 65 on the 65th floor (just 2 floors below Top of the Rock) and grab a drink there.

They have a dress code of business casual, but at $20 a drink, it could actually be cheaper than the observation deck.

There are also combo packages available such as the Rock Pass, which also has tickets to the Rockefeller Center Tour. You might also want to consider a bus tour combo from City Sightseeing.

Therefore, ignore the stated retail prices and calculate the best prices from the deals currently available.

Example #2 - Statue of Liberty

This attraction is one of the worst choices to pick on a tourist pass.

First of all, it takes at least 4 hours (we suggest 5 hours) to get through security, visit both the Statue and Ellis Island, and return.  

Secondly, the tourist passes only offer access to Liberty Island and not to the Statue's pedestal or crown.

At $23.50/adult, this is under $5/hr/adult. You are better off purchasing tickets on your own.

Pitbull announces Party After Dark concert tour: T-Pain, Lil Jon to join as special guests

Latin rap star Pitbull is set to deliver a mix of his career-spanning hits on the upcoming Party After Dark Tour. The U.S. trek follows numerous successful solo tours for the "Give Me Everything" rapper, including the triple-headlining Trilogy Tour with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin .

Produced by Live Nation, the 26-city tour kicks off on Aug. 21 in Bristow, Virginia, making stops across the U.S. before wrapping in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Oct. 5.  Fellow rappers T-Pain and Lil Jon will serve as a special guests on the tour.

The Grammy-winning Pitbull is known for a slew of hit singles , including "Fireball," "Timber" with Kesha , "Hotel Room Service," "Give Me Everything" with Afrojack and Ne-Yo and "Time of Our Lives" with Ne-Yo.

T-Pain, known for singles like "Bartender," "Buy U a Drank" and "Booty Wurk" is popular for his use of auto-tune pitch with electronic-style vocal performances. His most recent album, "On Top of The Covers," was released in 2023.

What to Know Before Booking a National Park Trip This Summer

Additional routes in popular parks now require reservations, the annual pass gets a big change, Juneteenth is now a new free entrance day and more changes for 2024.

In 2023, the seashores, lakeshores, battlefields, historic sites, monuments and more that make up the National Park Service had 325.5 million visits , an increase of 4 percent from the year before.

The National Park Service director, Charles F. Sams III, praised the surge of interest in “learning our shared American story throughout the hidden gems of the National Parks System.”

Expecting an even greater turnout in 2024, the Park Service and Recreation.gov , the booking platform for federal land reservations, have implemented new measures to streamline the park experience, manage overcrowding and safeguard the environment.

More parks are requiring reservations

To better avoid congested trails, packed parking lots and overflowing trash cans, additional parks are joining Rocky Mountain , Arches and Glacier National Parks this year in requiring day-use permits, timed entries and other reservations for travelers who wish to visit, particularly during peak hours, holidays and the parks’ high seasons. Yosemite National Park is reinstating a timed-entry system it instituted in 2020, but paused in 2022.

Many park enthusiasts expressed mixed feelings about the reservation policies, with some lamenting a lack of first-come, first-served campsites while others find comfort in knowing they have a confirmed booking. As nearly 75 percent of visitors each year descend on national parks from May to October (and often on weekends), park officials stand by the system.

“In some parks, the level of demand is exceeding the capacity for which infrastructure was designed or is outpacing the National Park Service’s ability to sustainably support visitation,” said Kathy Kupper, a public affairs specialist for the service. “This trend is resulting in the need to explore new strategies to protect natural and cultural resources and provide opportunities for safe and meaningful visitor experiences.”

It can be confusing.

New to implementing timed-entry reservations for vehicles is Mount Rainier National Park , in Washington, for its popular Paradise and Sunrise Corridors during certain times in the summer season. Reservations cost $2, are valid for one day and must be purchased along with the park ticket, but do not apply for visitors with wilderness permits or camping or lodge reservations. Similar vehicle reservations are now required for certain periods for viewing the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park in Maui, Hawaii , and driving the Cadillac Summit Road in Maine’s Acadia National Park .

Visitors wishing to hike Old Rag Mountain in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park must obtain a day-use ticket between March 1 and Nov. 30, and in Zion National Park, in Utah, hikers wishing to visit Angels Landing , the dramatic 1,488-foot-tall rock formation, also need to purchase a permit. Fees range from $1 to $6, in addition to the parks’ entrance fees.

As each destination is managed differently, check the park’s webpage for the type of reservation required. Although most bookings can be made through Recreation.gov, some sites, such as Muir Woods National Monument, use a different system.

New features on Recreation.gov

In 2023, Recreation.gov reported that more than 4 million camping reservations and 2 million timed-entry reservations were booked online, and 1.5 million permits were issued. Some 2.9 million new users signed up for the site. With its expanding user base, the booking platform has added 58 reservable national park locations — including 17 campgrounds — such as Central Avenue Walk-in Sites at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Bluff Hike In Camping in South Carolina’s Congaree National Park.

Recreation.gov has also improved an alerts feature, piloted in July 2023, that can notify users through email or mobile push notifications when a sold-out campsite becomes available. After Recreation.gov notifies you of availability, you must book the campsite yourself online — and quickly, as you’ll be shown how many other people (possibly hundreds) have received the same alert.

While its customer support center and mobile app are still only available in English, Recreation.gov recently introduced a Spanish language translation option. The Park Service partners with Latino Conservation Week , which hosts nationwide hikes and events on environmental education and in-park stewardship, and will celebrate its 10th year in September.

A limit to the annual America the Beautiful pass

The 2024 America the Beautiful pass no longer allows two owners. The annual interagency pass, which costs $80 and covers the entrance fees for more than 2,000 federal recreation sites (of which roughly 100 do not charge for admission year-round), is now marked by a single signature line on the back of the card. The pass owner must show I.D. and be present with any accompanying travelers wishing to access the park with the pass. (Annual passes issued in 2023 will still be valid until their expiration date.) The pass covers all passengers in a vehicle — up to four adults, and children under 16 are admitted free — or up to four cyclists riding together. Active military or veterans and people with permanent disabilities are eligible for a free lifetime pass; 4th grade students may receive a free annual pass; and senior citizens may purchase a $20 annual pass or pay $80 for a lifetime pass.

At the parks, more accessible features, E.V. chargers and new lodging

To better protect against global warming, the Park Service is putting more than $65 million from the Inflation Reduction Act and Great American Outdoors Act into climate mitigation and ecosystem restoration.

Using $15.9 million budgeted for zero-emission vehicle deployment, charging capacity and infrastructure, the Park Service is prioritizing a reduction in carbon emissions, said Mr. Sams, by installing new electric-vehicle charging stations and running electric buses.

An interactive online locator tool created in 2023 shows E.V. charging stations throughout 27 national parks and the type of chargers available. In addition to the tool, every national park page displays alerts on road closures, parking lot capacities, construction work and other incidents.

Mr. Sams also said the Park Service is investing $1.3 billion from the Great American Outdoors Act to improve accessibility features, ranging from a new A.D.A.-compliant visitor center at Morristown National Historic Park in New Jersey to new beach wheelchairs at Sleeping Bear Dunes , Channel Islands and Virgin Islands National Parks . Each destination’s website has an accessibility tab to help visitors plan their trip, and Recreation.gov now has a search filter on its homepage to make it easier to locate accessible accommodations.

New lodging options now available across the country include the Flamingo Lodge , which opened inside Everglades National Park last fall with 24 guest rooms built from repurposed shipping containers. In March, along the southeastern border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cataloochee Ranch reopened with 11 renovated cabins and a new restaurant. This spring, the Clubhouse Hotel & Suites will welcome its first guests in Rapid City, S.D., the closest major town to Badlands National Park , and opening in May in Idaho is the Yellowstone Peaks Hotel , a 30-minute-drive from Yellowstone National Park. This fall, California-bound travelers planning a visit to General Sherman, the largest known tree on Earth, might book at AutoCamp Sequoia , just outside Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park .

Also in California: Those who don’t score a highly coveted (and contentious) spot at the newly reopened High Sierra Camps in Yosemite could book Wildhaven Yosemite in Mariposa, which offers more affordable rates, hiking trails and views of the Sierra Nevadas. Reservations for its first season are available beginning May 1.

Celebrating milestones and a new free entrance day

On the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, visitors can pay tribute to African American heritage at over 100 parks , including the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C., Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument , and the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail . This year also marks 100 years since Indigenous people were recognized as United States citizens. Although many parks have Indigenous programming , Mr. Sams, who is the first Native American to serve as N.P.S. director , suggested visiting Hopewell Cultural Historical Park in Ohio and Whitman Mission Historic National Historic Site in Washington, where he recently brought his daughter.

“In order to celebrate the diversity that makes our country great, we must share the complete story of America, which includes both the successes and challenges encountered on the way to form a more perfect union,” Mr. Sams said.

Juneteenth National Independence Day is the National Park Service’s newest free entrance day . Visitors can also take advantage of free admission on April 20, the first day of National Park Week; Aug. 4, the four-year anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act ; Sept. 28 on National Public Lands Day ; and Nov. 11 for Veterans Day .
