Paul Albert Anka, OC is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actor originally from Ottawa, Ontario who found fame with the 1957 single 'Diana'.

Paul threw himself into music during his school days, he sang with the St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church choir under the direction of Frederick Karam, with whom he studied music theory. He also studied piano with Winnifred Rees and attended Fisher Park High School where he was part of a vocal trio called the Bobby Soxers. It's no surprise that by the age of 14 the young singer had already recorded his first single, 'I Confess'.

After moving to New York he found noteirity with the song 'Diana' which peaked at #1 on the Canadian and U.S. music charts and remains one of the highest selling singles ever by a Canadian recording artist. The young artist became a word-wide heartthrob and toured the UK and Australia with Buddy Holly. In 1959 he had three top five singles in the US, his most successful of that year 'Lonely Boy' topped the charts and also peaked at #3 in the UK charts. He continued to enjoy chart success across the world until the mid-80's when he took a break from recording new music.

In 1998 he returned with the album entitled 'A Body of Work' which was his first new U.S. studio release since 'Walk a Fine Line' in 1983; vocalists and performers included Celine Dion, Kenny G, Patti LaBelle, and Skyler Jett. In 2009 when Michael Jackson returned with track 'This Is It' Anka stated that the track was a collaborative effort between the two in 1983. According to Anka, after recording the song, Jackson decided not to use it and the tune was then recorded and released by Sa-Fire. After Anka threatened to sue for credit and a share of royalties, the administrators of Jackson's estate granted Anka 50% of the copyright.

‘Night of a Lifetime’ it was called. And so it was. The night I saw the legendary Paul Anka at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, will live with me forever. Smartly presented in a tuxedo and a bow tie, Anka commanded the stage with a presence like that the greats who he has written songs for.

A songwriting master, he has penned the lyrics for ‘She’s a Lady’ for Tom Jones, ‘This Is It’ for Michael Jackson and ‘My Way’ for Frank Sinatra. Often we listen to some of the greatest songs without giving a second thought to where they came from. To hear an anthem like ‘My Way’ from the man who wrote it is truly something special.

Completely in sync with his band, silence swept the venue when Paul Anka sat at his baby grand to sing hit songs of his own, like ‘Diana’, ‘Lonely Boy’ and ‘You’re Having my Baby’. Songwriters are often hidden in the shadows of those who sing their songs. Watching Paul Anka in concert was truly confirmation that he has reserved a place for himself the music history books. I would thoroughly urge you to never miss the chance to have your ‘Night of a Lifetime’.

One of Canada's most widely recognised musical performers is Paul Anka. He has achieved global success with his singles and albums however perhaps most impressive is the fact at the age of 73, he continues to tour for the fanbase.

A lesser performer, or perhaps one less passionate would have left the game years ago but not Paul. Accompanied by a large live band and a number of backing vocalists, he delivers tender renditions of hits including 'Diana' and although he has probably performed this song hundreds of times, he seems to make each rendition special for the audience gathered. There is definitely a twinkle in his eye as he runs through a selection of swing music, a genre that he obviously loves so much and the crowd applaud loudly at the finale of every single lush performance. He is also a brilliant piano player and has attained this skill in his old age. As he takes the final bow to a smattering of applause, you begin to understand why he continues to take to stage night after night.

Oh my god, what can I say! This man is a true artist who has grown from a teenage idol to a huge figure in the music world. His skill as a performer is unique, in the way he energizes the involves audience. It was the experience of a lifetime we will never forget. We travelled from Australia to see Paul in an intimate theatre in New York. He is one of the greats!

Unfortunately, due to illness, Paul Anka's concert has been rescheduled to December 10, 2015. He will be incorporating seasonal music for the holiday season. I am disappointed, as I will not be able to make the rescheduled concert date.

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is the first theater in Sarasota to install the revolutionary Hearing Loop System for those who suffer from hearing loss, thanks to financial support from Sertoma Sarasota. The hearing loop is the only system that transmits performers' voices from a microphone directly into a hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with telecoils, allowing wearers to use hearing aids as wireless loudspeakers. This system complements the existing Sennheiser Infrared Listening System. Wireless headsets can be used at any seat in the auditorium and are available in both the Main and Bayside Lobbies. Sign language interpreters are available upon request through the box office.

Patrons in Wheelchairs or with Mobility Issues

Patrons in wheelchairs may enter through automatic doors in both Main and Bayside lobbies on ground level (no stairs). Accessible parking is available on the circle in front of the building and in the main parking lot. Cars must have necessary identification to qualify for these special arrangements. Patrons with mobility issues can be accommodated in restrooms off both lobbies. There is a wheelchair on the premises for emergency use, thanks to the generosity of Easter Seals.

Paul Anka has been in the music biz for quite some time.

In the mid-50s, the pop star started recording songs at 14. Hits like “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” and “Diana” quickly followed. Then, in 1962, he wrote the seminal theme for Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show.”

Somehow, nearly 70 years later, the 81-year-old Anka’s still going strong .

Starting in November, the veteran singer will embark on his 11-concert ‘Seven Decades Tour’ that will take him all over North America up until January 2024.

Along the way, he’ll stop into Atlantic City, NJ’s Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort on Nov. 10 and Westbury’s NYCB Theatre on Nov. 11.
