2023 John Deere Classic Helps Raise Record $14.1 Million for Charity
JASON DAY COMMITS TO #JDC24
Honoring Our Veterans: Military day discount details
We are very grateful for the partnership and relationship that we have with the John Deere Classic. They are an incredible asset to the community and they do some incredible work.
It is imperative that we do all we can to support Birdies (for Charity) and everything around it because those 480 charities, they’re doing the heavy lifting in our community. And that’s why Quad City Bank & Trust chooses to sponsor an event like this.
It’s been a family tradition to attend the JDC every year. There’s nothing I love more than watching everyone come in on 18 on Championship Sunday!
My dad and I had a magical experience at the John Deere Classic. We were greeted by hundreds of smiling volunteers, eager to help us in any way they could. We took several photos together around the course, but this is my all time favorite! We love the JDC!
Spending the day at the John Deere year after year with my father. Always a great tournament for a father son outing.
Taking the granddaughters to the John Deere Classic. My son and I loved seeing the the girls faces when they were the watching pro’s play.
We always love sitting at the final hole watching the leaders come in and clinch the victory!
I love going to the classic! I have been going every year ever since I was little. Once I was older, I volunteered to help with parking with my family and then we head out to the classic!
Watching great golf, and seeing friends and family at the JDC!!!

Illinois PGA tournament season to feature team play
The Illinois PGA informally opened its tournament season this week, but it won’t be long until the section’s newest feature in the schedule kicks in.
Team play will make its debut on May 13 at the first stroke play event at Schaumburg Golf Club.
This is real team play, not best ball or foursome competitions. With nine six-player teams and a seven-tournament schedule, it more closely resembles what the LIV Golf League started doing three years ago at its tournaments.
The 10-man IPGA tournament committee invited interest from section members, then named captains based largely on last year’s Bernardi Point Standings. Those who signed up were placed in pods based on past performance and the captains drew from each one to create nine teams of six players each.
Each player who signed up contributed to the season’s prize fund, and a few details will be finalized when they gather at Schaumburg.
“It should be pretty cool,” said tournament committee chairman Andy Mickelson, of Mistwood in Romeoville, “and it should be pretty lucrative for the top three teams.”
The competitive format will be two gross best ball and the season-long competition will be held at the six stroke play events — at Schaumburg, Merit Club in Libertyville, Glen Flora in Waukegan, Oak Park in River Grove, Crystal Lake Country Club and Mt. Hawley in Peoria — and conclude at the IPGA Players Championship Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 at Glen View Club.
Team captains are Roy Biancalana and Brian Carroll, both from The Hawk in St. Charles; Jim Billiter from Ivanhoe; Kyle Donovan from Oak Park; Kevin Flack and Mauh-Nah-Tee-See from Rockford; Chris French from Aldeen in Rockford; Jeff Kellen from North Shore in Glenview; Matthew Rion from Briarwood in Deerfield; and Mickelson.
The IPGA’s schedule also has two new events — the Pro-Junior on June 19 at Mount Prospect and the Pro-Veterans on Oct. 10 at Cantigny in Wheaton. The Illinois Open, the section’s premier championship, will return Aug. 5 to 7 to Flossmoor Country Club.
Here and there
The University of Illinois men’s team goes after its ninth straight Big Ten championship when the conference teams gather for a three-day competition Friday at Scioto in Columbus, Ohio. The Illini won their last regular season tournament, the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, last week at Atkins Golf Club in Urbana. Sophomore Ryan Voris was the individual winner.
The Chicago area’s two local qualifiers for the U.S. Open are today at Stonewall Orchard in Grayslake, and Monday at Cantigny. There will be 73 players competing for four spots in the final qualifying stage at Stonewall and 84 battling for five spots at Cantigny.
The U.S. Golf Association has announced 10,052 players have entered this year’s U.S. Open that concludes June 13 to 16 at Pinehurst, N.C. It’s the third largest turnout in the tourney’s 124-year history.
Recently announced professional changes have Jeff Kellen moving from Butler National to North Shore and Andrew Svoboda taking over at Butler.
Gene Hiser, who played for both the Cubs and White Sox, has announced the dates for two golf charity events he’s running. The Bill “Soup” Campbell Memorial Open is June 21 at Bridges at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates, and the 53rd Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities All-Star Invitational is July 18 at Twin Orchard in Long Grove.
Tickets are on sale for the John Deere Classic, Illinois’ only annual PGA Tour event. Two post-round concerts are also scheduled — Counting Crows on July 6 and Lainey Wilson on July 7.
Mistwood will host the College Learning Experience’s Dill Midwest Exposure Camp on June 18 and 19. It’ll bring together 28 girls and boys who want to connect with 10 college coaches, five heading girls teams and five guiding boys teams.

PGA Tour's 2022-23 schedule to include 44 regular-season tournaments, record $415 million in prize money
With the PGA Tour facing perhaps its greatest threat ever from the LIV Golf Invitational Series, it announced a 2022-23 schedule on Monday that includes a record $415 million in prize money in official events and another $145 million in bonuses, including $75 million for the FedEx Cup.
The 2022-23 schedule, which was released by the PGA Tour on Monday, will include 44 official regular-season tournaments, including the four majors, and three FedEx Cup playoff events.
Last week, LIV Golf, which is being financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, announced it will expand its series to 14 tournaments in 2023, with 48 players on four-man teams competing for $405 million in prize money.
LIV Golf has lured away major champions such as Dustin Johnson , Phil Mickelson , Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed with guaranteed contracts reportedly worth between $100 million and $200 million, in addition to lucrative purses for its events.
The upcoming PGA Tour season will be the last using a wraparound format. The tour is moving back to a calendar-year schedule starting in 2024.
Among other significant changes: Only the top 70 players will qualify for the first FedEx Cup playoff event at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee; 50 in the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields, Illinois; and 30 in the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

"We've heard from our fans and the overwhelming sentiment was that they wanted more consequences for both the FedEx Cup regular season and the playoffs, and to further strengthen events that traditionally feature top players competing head-to-head," PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. "We feel strongly we've accomplished all of these objectives and more, creating a cadence of compelling drama for every tournament throughout the season."
Following the FedEx Cup playoffs in August 2023, a yet-to-be-determined number of official tour events will be played in the fall. While all players with status will be eligible to play in those tournaments, those outside the top 70 will compete for FedEx Cup points and status for the 2024 season. The top 70 players who qualify for the first FedEx Cup playoff event will be fully exempt for the next season.
After the completion of the fall events, the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup points standings, as well as top performers from the fall, will compete in an international series that will include limited fields and no cuts. Dates and locations of the fall events and international series will be announced later this year, according to the PGA Tour.
Next season's PGA Tour schedule includes six invitationals -- the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Memorial Tournament, Players Championship and WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play -- that had their purses increased by a total of $43.8 million. The first two FedEx Cup playoff events will have their prize money jump from $15 million to $20 million.

They started well this go-around but will need to make some major gains on Sunday if they hope to win two of three titles in New Orleans.
A new pairing making its debut features world No. 2 Rory McIlroy -- in his first tournament appearance -- playing alongside Shane Lowry. The two have shared Ryder Cup moments together are near the top of the Zurich Classic leaderboard , sitting just two strokes back entering the final 18 holes Sunday.
Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala also entered as a strong duo on paper, as was the case with Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama. Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor hoped to do one better than their runner-up performance in 2023 with Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith also starring as an all-Canadian team. Brothers Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick team up for the second straight year with Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard, plus Parker and Pierceson Coody, also making this week a family affair.
