Pixies Announce First Run of 2023 North American Tour Dates

The post Pixies Announce First Run of 2023 North American Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence .

Pixies  have announced the initial handful of dates for their upcoming 2023 North American headline tour.

Currently wrapping up their 2022 jaunt in New Zealand, the alt-rock stalwarts will hit the road starting on May 4th at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California. They’ll primarily cover the southwest US throughout the month, making stops in cities such as Phoenix, Santa Fe, Denver, and two back-to-back nights in Las Vegas. They’ll wrap up the leg with a festival set at the Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City.

Though the tour is in support of Pixies’ September album Doggerel ,  the band have a whole treasure trove of hits and deep cuts to add to their setlists — “setlists” being plural, because each night will see the band play a unique lineup of songs, deciding whatever “the next song” will be right before playing its first note.

Tickets for Pixies’ new tour dates go on sale this Friday, December 16th at 10:00 a.m. local time, and you can head over to Ticketmaster to grab yours. See their full list of upcoming shows below, with more to be announced soon.

Pixies to play ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ in full at UK and European residencies

The tour will kick off in Spring 2024

Black Francis of Pixies performs at The Van Buren on May 08, 2023

Pixies have announced a new UK and European tour, in which they will celebrate their ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ albums.

  • READ MORE: Pixies – ‘Doggerel’ review: still the alt-rock gold standard

The tour is set to kick off in Spring 2024, and will see the alt-rock icons perform their third studio album ‘Bossanova’ (1990) and follow-up ‘Trompe Le Monde’ album (1991) in full.

‘Bossanova’ was introduced by the singles ‘Velouria’ and ‘Dig for Fire’, and marked the first LP following the success of their hit second album ‘Doolittle’ . It also was the first to feature no songs written by bassist Kim Deal, as she formed her other band The Breeders around the time it was written.

‘Trompe Le Monde’ arrived the following year, and featured four singles: ‘Planet Of Sound’, ‘Alec Eiffel’, ‘Letter To Memphis’ and ‘Head On’. Like its predecessor, it also contained less contributions from Deal than seen in the first two LPs, and marked the band’s final studio album, before their subsequent break-up two years later.

Starting with three back-to-back live dates in Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre on March 8, 9 and 10, the four-piece will then make stops in Manchester — for a three-night residency in the Albert Hall between March 12 and 14 — and another three-night stint in London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town between March 16 and 18.

The UK shows will be followed by three nights in both Amsterdam (March 20-22) and Paris (March 25-27). Tickets for all dates go on sale this Friday (June 9) at 9am local time and will be available here .

Recommended

Currently, the rock veterans are embarking on their ongoing tour of North America . The live dates come in support of their latest album, 2022’s ‘Doggerel’ , and features an appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee on June 18.

Other stops include a show in Washington D.C. later today (June 6), as well as gigs in Dallas (June 24), New York (August 21-22), Chicago (August 30-31) and Seattle (September 8). Find a full list of US tour dates and any remaining tickets here .

Speaking with NME back in September , the band discussed their approach to writing ‘Doggerel’, and explained how the members took the LP more seriously as they wanted it to stand out from their already-extensive discography.

“I’ve never been that prepared for a recording session in my life. This time I felt like: ‘Jesus, it’s been two years since we last got together and this is what? Our fucking 100th album or whatever the fuck? I thought I owed it to the band and the producer to come up with some goods,” frontman Black Francis said.

Pixies. Credit: Tom Oxley

“We’re getting better at what we do,” he added. “Gradually over the years we’ve been building up different kinds of muscles and we have a cosmopolitan sophistication that we’re able to tap into on this record more than we’ve been able to before. We’re able to get a little more cinematic.”

In other Pixies news, earlier this year the band apologised to fans after it was discovered that their hit 1988 song ‘Where Is My Mind?’ was turning off some people’s morning alarms on their phones.

“For the past few months, I could not figure out why on random days, with seemingly no reason, sometimes my alarm would either not go off, or turn itself off very quickly,” wrote one Redditor affected by the issue.

“Well this morning, I woke up about 5 minutes before my alarm went off, and I have cracked the code,” he added, proceeding to explain that the device he had contained voice-recognition software, which interpreted Francis’ exclamation of ‘Stop’ in the track to be an instruction to turn off any scheduled alarms.

Pixies Announce Leg One of 2023 North American Tour

The tour is in support of the band's latest album, Doggerel, a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock

pixies tour support

Currently in New Zealand wrapping up Phase One of their massive 2022 – 2023 World Tour, today Pixies announce initial dates for the first leg of their 2023 North American headline trek. Pixies will hit the road on May 4 at the Fox Theatre in Oakland CA, headlining shows in U.S. western states through to the middle of May. The confirmed dates are below; tickets go on sale this Friday, December 16 at 10:00AM (local). Log on to https://www.pixiesmusic.com for all ticket purchasing information.

The tour is in support of the band’s latest album, Doggerel, a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one. The album was released on September 30, 2022 (BMG) to tremendous reviews:

As will be the case on these upcoming dates, every Pixies’ show will be different from those they played before and those they will play down the line. Prior to every tour, the Pixies rehearse 90-100 songs from their extensive catalogue, and “the next song” is determined just before its first note is played. Concertgoers can expect the band to perform some of their most beloved and iconic Pixies songs, as well as tracks from Doggerel .

Pixies – Black Francis/guitar, Joey Santiago/lead guitar, David Lovering/drums, and Paz Lenchantin/bass – have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more. And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band’s “loudquietloud” signature sound. Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies’ calling card; eight genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa , and the iconic Platinum Doolittle , considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums. Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies’ live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi. Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.

Confirmed dates for the first leg of Pixies’ North American tour are as follows:

4 Fox Theater, Oakland, CA

6 Golden State Theatre, Monterey, CA

8 The Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ

9 Lensic Performing Arts Center, Santa Fe, NM

10 The Mission Ballroom, Denver, CO

12 Encore Theatre at Wynn, Las Vegas, NV

13 Encore Theatre at Wynn, Las Vegas, NV

Pixies, Modest Mouse, and Cat Power Tour 2024: How To Get Tickets & More

by Em Casalena January 29, 2024, 11:19 am

2023 was a great year for American alt-rock outfits Pixies and Modest Mouse. Last year’s tour was massively successful, so it only makes sense that we’d see more of them in 2024. This year’s upcoming tour will span the United States and Canada, particularly around the Midwest and American South. Pixies and Modest Mouse will be co-headlining with support from singer/songwriter Cat Power.

Videos by American Songwriter

pixies tour support

The 2024 leg of this tour will kick off on May 31 in Charleston, South Carolina at the Firefly Distillery. Assuming that the bands don’t add any final dates to the tour, it should come to a close on June 30 in Denver, Colorado at Fiddler’s Green.

The bands have been pretty mum about the upcoming tour, sans a few announcements and promotions. However, Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago did an interview with The Spokesman-Review about what fans can expect from their live performances late in 2023.

“We don’t have a set list written out and put by our feet,” said Santiago, “We haven’t done it [written a set list] in years. We call them [songs] out onstage. There’s no rhyme or reason on what we will be playing.”

Unpredictability leads to excitement, and this is definitely going to be one hell of an exciting tour. Luckily, no tour dates have sold out yet and tickets are quite easy to get your hands on. Tickets to the Pixies and Modest Mouse tour in 2024 are available for general sale through Ticketmaster and StubHub , as well as the bands’ respective websites .

Fans in the American South and Midwest are in for a treat this year, as the bands are expected to bring the same pumped-up energy to these upcoming shows that they did last year. You don’t want to miss this tour!

Pixies announce 2023 UK and European tour

Tickets go on sale later this week.

By Tom Skinner

Pixies have confirmed the release date for 'Doggerel', their eighth album and first in three years.

Pixies have announced a UK and European headline tour for 2023. The alt-rock Boston band are due to release their eighth studio album, Doggerel , on September 30 via BMG ( pre-order/pre-save here ). Early next year, they’ll hit the road for a run of concerts across Europe and the United Kingdom. Pixies will begin the stint in Stockholm on February 21 before making further stops in Oslo (February 22), Copenhagen (25), Berlin (26) and other cities throughout that month and into March. The group are scheduled to touch down in the UK on March 17, when they’ll take to the stage at the Forum in Birmingham. Gigs will then follow at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff (March 18) and the Roundhouse in north London (20/21). Tickets go on general sale at 8am BST/ 9am CEST this Friday (September 30) –  you’ll be able to purchase yours here . Check out the full UK/European live itinerary in the announcement post below.

DOGGEREL • EUROPE & UK 2023 Tickets are on-sale on Friday at 9am CEST / 8am UK. Set your reminders: https://t.co/faZ7LNoPRc pic.twitter.com/DIxV3JW2nn — PIXIES (@PIXIES) September 27, 2022

Pixies announced the forthcoming Doggerel back in April, and have already shared three singles from the record: ‘Vault of Heaven’, ‘Dregs of the Wine’ and ‘There’s a Moon On’. You can see the full tracklist beneath. 01. ‘Nomatterday’ 02. ‘Vault of Heaven’ 03. ‘Dregs of the Wine’ 04. ‘Haunted House’ 05. ‘Get Simulated’ 06. ‘The Lord Has Come Back Today’ 07. ‘Thunder & Lightning’ 08. ‘There’s a Moon On’ 09. ‘Pagan Man’ 10. ‘Who’s More Sorry Now?’ 11. ‘You’re Such a Sadducee’ 12. ‘Doggerel’

Describing the album, the follow-up to 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie , frontman Black Francis said: “We’re trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can do with this extra special energy that we’re encountering.” Guitarist Joey Santiago added: “This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”

Paz Lenchantin Departs Pixies After a Decade in the Band

By Matthew Strauss

Black Francis David Lovering Paz Lenchantin Joey Santiago

Paz Lenchantin is leaving the Pixies in order “to concentrate on her own projects,” the band announced today. “We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions, and wish her all the very best going forward,” Pixies wrote.

Emma Richardson, a painter who spent over a decade with Band of Skulls, will take over for Lenchantin as Pixies’ bassist, beginning with a show in Ireland later this week. See Pixies’ statement below.

Paz Lenchantin joined Pixies as a touring bassist in 2014 after the departures of Kim Deal and Kim Shattuck . She contributed a bit to Indie Cindy , before becoming a full-time band member in 2016 and working on Head Carrier , Beneath the Eyrie , and Doggerel .

In a statement to Rolling Stone , Lenchantin said, “It has been a dream of dreams these past 10 years to have been accepted as a Pixie by the band and by fans and an honor to have contributed to the Pixies legacy. My departure is a bit of a surprise to me as it is to many, but it looks like they have a solid plan figured out which in turn has pushed me to move onwards onto new projects that I am excited about.”

Paz Lenchantin, who joined Pixies in 2014, has exited the band to concentrate on her own projects. We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions, and wish her all the very best going forward. We are delight to welcome Emma Richardson on bass. Emma will make her worldwide touring debut with Pixies on the first night of the “Bossanova x Trompe le Monde” European tour, beginning this Friday in Dublin. See you on the road! La la love you, Pixies
