15 Best Things to Do in Batam (Indonesia)

Batam is just across the water from Singapore, so if you are looking for a weekend break to Indonesia then this is a great place to come. From Singapore it is a 40 minute ride to Batam on a speed boat and once you are there you can enjoy a huge range of activities far more cheaply than in many other parts of Southeast Asia.

The island is famous as a place where people come to relax and get away from it all and as such it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. You won’t find a huge array of ‘attractions’ like historical sites as such, but you will find a number of resorts, spas, restaurants and cafes, and the nightlife here is lively with a good range of choices if you are looking for some entertainment in the evenings.

Another reason why people flock to Batam is for the diving or snorkeling opportunities as the waters here are incredibly clear and visibility is excellent if you want to explore the underwater kingdoms in this part of Indonesia.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Batam :

1. Enjoy the water sports

Batam Cable Ski Park

One of the signature attractions in Batam is the water sports as it is located right next to the water.

In other places like Singapore the coast of water skiing or wakeboarding can really add up but in Batam you can enjoy these for a fraction of the price and one of the best places to do this is at the Batam Cable Ski Park.

Just some of the activities on offer here include canoeing, jet skiing, or even snorkeling or you can check out other famous resorts like the Batam View Beach Resort.

2. Visit Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple

This temple is one of the more serene ways to enjoy Batam and is the place to come if you want to find some inner peace.

Devotees here usually burn incense for good luck and you can enjoy the colorful and elegant Buddha statues here as well as the carvings of twelve zodiac signs which lie opposite the temple.

One of the best things about the temple is that there is also a cafe here and you buy a range of delicious vegetarian food including buns and snacks in the shape of cute animals.

3. Take a trip to Penyengat Island

Penyengat Island

There are a number of islands around central Batam Island that are perfect for day trips and one of these is the stunning Penyengat Island.

It is not one of the largest islands in the area and you can walk around it in around two hours which means that if you get here early you can go for a walk before spending the afternoon sunbathing and then catch the spectacular sunset.

One point of interest on the island is the local mosque called Masjid Kuning (Yellow Mosque) and legend has it that eggshells were used in its construction to make the walls stronger.

The island is also a great place if you want to get a glimpse of how locals live in the less touristy parts of Batam.

4. Dine on seafood

Batam Seafood

Batam is also known for its seafood which again is far cheaper than Singapore or other parts of Southeast Asia.

Some of the top picks for seafood in the city include the Sei Enam Seafood Restaurant as well as the Rezeki Seafood Restaurant and Harbour Bay Seafood.

If you are looking for signature dishes then try the chili crab which is famous in the region as well as black pepper crab and snacks like crunchy calamari.

Other underwater delights about here such as juicy prawns and even dine on freshly caught lobster which is usually simply grilled and served with white rice.

5. Travel along the northern coast

Duriankang Reservoir

Many people come to Batam and only check out the main tourist areas or take a boat to some of the neighboring islands.

If you want to explore a little further however then consider a trip along the northern coastline.

One of the best ways to do this is to hire a motorbike or a bicycle and drive past gorgeous lush jungles with sweeping vistas over the water on the other side of the trail.

The trail will take you along the Duriankang Reservoir and then along the pretty Nongsa Coast and if you choose to ride a bike then you can expect around a 30 kilometer ride from Nongsa Village to the end of the line.

6. Sunbathe on Nongsa Beach

Nongsa Beach

Nongsa Beach is one of the best places to come if you are in Batam and looking for some sand.

The beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is less crowded than some other places on the island.

It is also close to a range of amenities and you will find an array of eateries lining the beach that are a great spot if you fancy a spot of dinner or a drink while watching the sunset.

There are also some spas nearby and you can go for a paddle or a swim.

7. Watch the sunset at Barelang Bridge

Barelang Bridge

Barelang Bridge is one of the most iconic sights in Batam and people flock here in the late afternoon for the photo opportunities.

The bridge actually links main Batam Island with adjacent Galang Island and the bridge is a marvel of engineering as it majestically spans the water between these two islands.

If possible try to go around sunset for the best vistas across the water.

8. Have a massage

Massage

One of the reasons that people come to Batam is for rest and relaxation and as a result there are a wealth of spas here where you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a range of soothing treatments.

One of the most famous places to get a treatment is the Isabella Massage House although there are a huge range to choose from scattered across the city which will mean that wherever you go you will leave rejuvenated and relaxed.

9. Go scuba diving

Scuba Diving

If you are a diving newbie and want to get certified then Batam Island is the perfect spot to get your PADI certificate cheaply.

Some of the best places to dive here are located offshore from the main Batam Island and include Abang Island, Hantu Island, Labun Island, and Petong Island.

From Batam you can sign up for a course and will be taken out to the neighboring islands in a boat and the visibility here is amazingly clear so you will be able to take in a range of underwater creatures and this is a top spot if you like marine photography.

If you are already an experienced diver then you will also find a lot to enjoy here thanks to the huge selection of aquatic life in these waters such as sharks, rays, and turtles.

10. Play a round of golf

Batam Hills Golf Resort

Batam is a golfer’s paradise and you can enjoy not one but seven different ranges in and around the area.

These include the Batam Hills Golf Resort and the Palm Springs Golf and Beach Resort or you can go to the Padang Golf Sukajadi which is the most famous of all the courses here.

As well as enjoying a game of golf all the courses have bars and eateries attached so you can also get a bite to eat or enjoy a sundowner as you look over the idyllic rambling dunes.

11. Take a trip to Bintan Island

Bintan Island

Bintan Island lies close to Batam and is known for being a luxury retreat with a wealth of delightful high end resorts to choose from.

If you are not on a budget then you can think about staying overnight or you can just take a day trip to Bintan and enjoy the pristine white sands and the azure waters.

Bintan is slightly less busy than Batam and most people come here to chill out at one of the resident resorts on the island, so if you are looking to get away from the crowds then this is a good choice.

12. Check out the stilt houses in Tanjung Uma

Tanjung Uma

Many parts of Batam are incredibly modern but if you go out to the old villages then there are a wealth of historical relics to enjoy.

These include the stilt houses which are built over the water and this is an amazing sight if you have never seen traditional architecture like this before.

One of the best places to see these old fashioned stilt houses is in the sleepy fishing village of Tanjung Uma so if you are interested in local architecture and culture then this is not to be missed and shows a completely different side of this island.

13. Have fun at Ocarina Park

Ocarina Park Batam

Ocarina Park is a great place to come with all the family and is a large entertainment complex which also includes the Ocarina Waterpark.

The park ahs a range of signature features including a large Ferris wheel and you will find a range of rides for children of all ages as well as adults.

There is also a 3D movie theater inside the park and you will also find a number of food courts where you can get a bite to eat.

Certainly if you are looking for a place with a range of attractions all in one place then this is a great choice.

14. Enjoy the nightlife

Batam Nightlife

Batam is well known for having cheap alcohol particularly compared to neighboring Singapore.

It is also one of the liveliest parts of Indonesia if you are looking for an exciting nightlife scene.

The main area for bars and clubs is known as the Nagoya Entertainment District or just ‘NED’ and you can easily spend a night on the town here enjoying the local Indonesian beer Bintang or having a cocktail.

Venues range from low-key lounges where you can get a drink before dinner to larger nightclubs where you can dance the night away into the wee small hours.

15. Go shopping at Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

Batam is an island but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a wealth of shopping malls to visit and actually shopping is the number one pastime for many visitors here.

The Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall has the claim to fame of being the biggest mall in the city and you will find a full range of items here such as branded clothes and accessories.

Other malls include Mega Mall Batam Center and BCS Mall.

Lots of malls also sell a wealth of typical handicrafts such as wood carvings and textiles so if you are looking to pick up some gifts or souvenirs then you can do all your shopping under one roof.

Ultimate 4 Days Batam Itinerary

Batam Riau Islands is one of the few lesser-known tropical places in Indonesia. Over the years, it’s gained a lot of popularity in tourism for its low-expense holidays. I’ve lived in Batam for almost a decade and here’s how you can build your Batam Itinerary for 4 days.

To cover most must-visit places in Batam Riau including a stay at an exotic beach resort, you need no more than 3-4 days. It is a small city where only a few spots like the Barelang Bridge need more than an hour’s drive. Though a city, there’s not too much of a hustle and bustle. Take your time and wander the island at your own pace.

Like most of Indonesia, the people are hospitable and calm. So make yourself comfortable as you tread through this Batam Itinerary for 4 days.

Batam Itinerary for 4 Days

This itinerary is based on my experiences of the places I’ve visited considering their best times and peak times. I’ve put this list together – including getting there and keeping the short 4 days span in mind. Plan your itinerary at your convenience.

Day 1: Arrive at Batam Center, Riau Islands

There are a handful of ways to get to Batam. The easiest way is via ferry from Singapore (HarbourFront or Tanah Merah) to Batam. While you can choose your preferred terminals to land in among the 3 to 4 terminals across Batam, the most popular ports are Batam Center and Sekupang.

If you’ve booked a beach resort already at Nongsa or some other spot, Nongsapura and Marina Waterfront ferry terminals are better options. Tourists usually head straight out here to their resorts like Nongsa Point and Turi Beach and avoid the city traffics.

But if touring the place is your priority, I’d recommend at the heart of the place – Batam Center. When coming to different parts of Indonesia or Malaysia, getting to Batam via the Hang Nadim Airport is also an option.

getting to batam riau by ferry

Visit the Barelang Bridge

The first must-visit spot in Batam is the infamous Barelang Bridge. It constitutes of 6 bridges that connect the main Riau Islands – Batam, Rempang, and Galang Islands. Hence the name Ba-re-lang! While it’s no more than a set of bridges to look forward to, the 1st bridge is the main feature to visit.

Hung high by enormous cables to two massive towers placed in between the islands, it makes up for one of Batam’s most iconic spots.

Start driving here early in the morning (or right away if you’ve arrived in the morning). Traffic in the evenings and weekends here can get crowded. When you’re here, don’t miss out on grilled corn (called Jagung ) and coconut water at the street stalls after the bridge. They’re some of the best corn I’ve had!

batam itinerary for 4 days

Swim at Mirota Beach

With dozens of beaches to find on Batam’s map, it’s hard to find an ideal place to swim and sit on the beaches. Even if it is clean, it’s always crowded. Mirota Beach is one of the few sweet beaches on the Barelang route.

Get here early after stopping at the Barelang Bridge. The mornings are calm and empty for a swim. When I visited, the weather was perfect and the waters – though not crystal clear – were sweet for a dip.

Most stalls aren’t open early, so have your breakfast before getting here or get it with you. We swam for an hour or two before bathing and getting back on our way.

Have Seafood at Cita Rasa Restaurant

How can one not have seafood in Indonesia (unless you’re vegetarian, of course)? Cita Rasa seafood restaurant is just 40 minutes away from the Vietnamese Camp. Located on the Cita Rasa port, the road connectivity is terrible and parking isn’t great either.

But people do visit from around for its fresh offbeat and local seafood! Either Cita Rasa or there are a few other seafood options on the Jembatan Barelang path. Most seafood places by the sea aren’t very different from one another.

To name a few, some well-known seafood places around Galang and Rempang Islands are Indah Jaya Seafood, Lucky Seafood on bridge 5, or Barelang Seafood at bridge 1. Try not to get too far from Galang Island as your next stop is the Vietnamese Camp.

Drive through the Galang Refugee Camp

Further down a few bridges on Galang Island is the Vietnamese Refugee Camp. This is no more than a short 1-2 hour drive through the camp. You’ll need a nominal fee to enter. Step down at the museum and through the Galang camp pictures if you wish to.

When you drive through, you’ll pass by an old hospital, a cemetery, and even a police station which were all used back in the days by refugees!

Visit the Maha Vihara Dutriya Temple

Towards the evening, give the Maha Vihara Dutriya Temple before you head to your resort. The Buddhist temple features large statues of Buddha in various forms. I somehow visit it every time I visit Batam as the whole place gives a sense of relief and peace.

It makes a perfect end to a long day with calmness. A walk around the temple takes around 1 – 1.5 hours at most. There’s also a buffet-style vegetarian restaurant at the back of the temple that’s worth trying.

Batam Itinerary for 4 Days: Check in your resorts

There’s no hard and fast about choosing the best resorts in Batam. All of them are more or less the same. But to recommend, I’d say stay at a beach resort. Some all-time popular ones here are the KTM Resorts, Nongsa Point Resort, Turi Beach, and Harris Hotel.

Carry no more than a small backpack with you while touring the island. It gets really hot here and carrying large luggage around can be tiresome. Unless you’ve rented out a car, check-in and keep your luggage at the resorts.

Since Batam isn’t that big, feel free to book one of the mentioned resorts above for your entire trip. You can get back to the same resort after touring throughout the day. Most places in Batam take no more than an hour’s drive.

kiki beach resort batam

Day 2: Begin with Water Sports at Harris Resorts

Speaking of diving in Southeast Asia , Indonesia boasts its rich natural availability for it. Harris Waterfront Resorts is just one spot for watersports. If you’re looking for a specific watersport like kitesurfing or cable wakeboarding, these are pretty big sports in Batam and attract flocks of adventurer seekers here over the weekend for affordable rates compared to their home country. If you are looking for more relaxing and less technical water sports that are kids-friendly, when staying at resorts like Nongsa Point, Turi Beach, or Nuvasa Bay – request if they offer watersport facilities.

Some all-time watersport places are Montigo Resorts, Turi, and Max Dive’s centre for diving. For wakeboarding, some well-known spots are Cabana Club at Turi Beach and Waterfront City (Harris Resorts). A newer spot coming up is the Batam Wakepark specifically for Wakeboarding.

Leave snorkeling out for now as there’s a special spot for it. The most common activities here are banana boat rides, kayaking, and jet skis.

Have lunch at Love Seafood / Harbour Bay Seafood

Seafood again! Don’t miss out some great places like the Love Seafood in Batam Center or Harbour Bay Seafood. If you’re along with a group of 4-6, get the buffet deal at Love Seafood where they have a variety of options on the same tray.

On my visit, we got the buffet option with chilly crabs, fried prawns and squid, soft fish meat, and seashells – it was a LOT of food. It’s worth the visit.

Go shopping at malls and hit a spa!

If Batam’s famous for something – it’s seafood, resorts, and spa. There are tons of spa spots in Batam. The best area to find your preferred spa is Nagoya Hills. This part of Batam is popular for cheap shops and massages.

Get to the Nagoya Hill Mall which are dozens of spas including the Eska Wellness Spa and Reborn Batam. As for shopping, there are varieties of individual stores to check out in Nagoya. Practice your bargaining skills here!

If not shopping, stroll through the food stalls aisle at one end of the mall for some inexpensive Indonesian delicacies like curry puff, Roti’O, and Kue Putu!

Dine at Sederhana Padangnese

It’s a disgrace not to try the Padang cuisine in Indonesia. Luckily, there are Padang restaurants in all corners of Batam – some bigger than the others. But for the best, any local will recommend a Sederhana restaurant joint.

The nearest Sederhana Padangnese to the Nagoya shopping mall is no more than 10 minutes away. When you’re there, tell them which animal meat you eat and they’ll bring all the varieties of it to your table. Don’t worry, they’ll charge only for the plates you’ve taken!

batam sederhana padangnese restaurant

Day 3: Take the Pulau Abang Trip

Reserve a full day for snorkeling at Pulau Abang Island . Indonesia is known for its coral reefs but it’s hard to find those snorkeling spots, especially for tourists. Pulau Abang isn’t a resort (or hotel for that matter), it’s a small homestay organized by the locals of the island.

The whole day is organized on the package where pickup, meals, snorkeling gear and timings all come on a single package. But the most interesting part is snorkeling itself.

Snorkeling at Pulau Abang’s crystal clear waters and Dedap beach with natural white sands to be is one of Batam’s must-do experiences. The aquatic life lies right beneath our flippers no more than a meter away!

abang island batam riau

One site to book your Pulau Abang is EnjoyBatam – check out all the package details here as well. Being a local spot, only call reservation is available now. Request a local (or your resort) to help you out with the package booking.

Day 4: Stay at Kiki Beach Resorts

The Kiki beach is no doubt just another resort. What makes it unique is it’s a private beach not accessible by road unless you’re off-road through the woods. Situated on the Galang Island, the resort hosts a boat for pickup from a port on Rempang Island.

You can book one day and night stay where they pick you up at a specified time in the morning and drop off the following day. The remoteness of the spot where only tourists staying at their villas have access to the beach for that night makes it a luxurious experience.

With the civilization and Batam’s mainland far off, there was no city lit sky in sight. I felt blessed to experience the dark night’s sky ignited with stars. The villas itself are something to experience. Made up of large air-conditioned tents and floor-to-ceiling glass panels for entrance and bathrooms, it was worth the expense.

With no place to get around aside the beach, villa, and the long boardwalks – the resort is inclusive of kayaking and squad bikes.

kiki beach resort

More things to do in Batam Riau

I felt that Kiki Beach Resort is worth spending a day with its unique private beach service. But if you’ve had enough of resorts, the itsy bitsy stuff left to do in Batam is shopping and eating.

People come to malls like BCS, Nagoya Hill, Grand Batam, and Mega Mall for its great variety of clothing, shoes, and bags. Nagoya Hill and BCS are great to look for niche items in clothing and accessories and can even try out your bargaining skills here!

For food, some other things to try out in Batam is the evergreen Martabak Paratha. They’re called kosong paratha (very different from the Indian Paratha) given along with chicken curry. Some other food joints to try out at malls are Bakso Mie and Ria Resto.

On my last days in Batam, I went out to FreshBeer Batam Center where they have their own brewery. The more exotic part was their menu with choices of crocodile, snake, and deer meat! That sums up this post on Batam Itinerary for 4 days.

2D1N Batam Itinerary — Weekend Getaway with Adventurous Things to Do, Hidden Beaches and Cafe-hopping

pulau batam trip

A Bali-esq getaway gem that’s only a one-hour ferry ride away.

Quiet Turi Beach in Batam — Things to do in Batam

Things to do in Batam? Get a massage, eat, Netflix and chill in the hotel room with a box of donuts — end of list. At least that’s what I thought!

I never imagined I’d be able to run on empty beaches, visit a deer sanctuary, or go on adventurous activities like hiking and go-karting, while also relaxing in between with spas and cafe hopping.

After doing all that and more in this 2D1N Batam itinerary, it’s safe to say that I’ve discovered a side of Batam I haven’t experienced before and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Check-in at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel

View from hotel room at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel, Batam — Things to do in Batam

My two friends and I are the kind of travellers who’ll pick hostels over hotels but since we travelled in a group of three and agreed to split the cost, we decided to live it up a little and stay at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel which came up to S$87/pax for the night.

The beds and bathrooms were luxurious but we were especially taken by the alcove window. If we didn’t have to be out and about, we’d definitely be spending the entire day in this room.

Infinity pool overlooking the sea at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel, Batam — Things to do in Batam

The view from our room!

The pool opens from 6AM to 8PM daily and there’s a 24-hour gym right beside it.

Explore Wisata Ocarina Batam

Ferris wheel at Wisata Ocarina Batam — Things to do in Batam

Did you know that there’s an amusement park in Batam? Wisata Ocarina Batam has classics like the giant carousel wheel, viking, and an elevated spinning-swing-thing. And it’s only Rp15,000 (~S$1.50) per ride 😲

Here’s what really amused us though, we went on a Thursday afternoon during the non-peak period and all rides were closed. But since we were already there, we entered the grounds and got some dope pics of us exploring an ‘abandoned’ amusement park!

Sitting on a ride at Wisata Ocarina Batam — Things to do in Batam

For those who like some seriously quiet downtime, pack lunch and hang at one of the many gazebos — you’ll likely be the only ones there.

*Pro-tip: Go during weekends or public holidays to go on rides. Plus, there are foam parties on some weekends too, check their Instagram for updates.

Entrance fee: Rp15,000/child, Rp25,000/adult Cost: Rp10,000 – Rp15,000/ride Opening hours: 8AM – 10PM (Mon – Fri), 7AM – 10PM (Sat), 6AM – 10PM (Sun) Address: Sadai, Bengkong, Batam City, Riau Islands 29444, Indonesia

Coffee Run at Next Level

Pavillon at Next Level, Batam — Things to do in Batam

On the way to lunch, our Gojek driver recommended that we make a quick stop at Next Level to check out the immaculate vibes. Glad we did cause we felt like we were at a much quieter Tanjong Beach Club !

There are plenty of outdoor seats on the beachfront and some in the back under the shade too if you’re not a fan of the sun.

Outdoor sea-facing seats at Next Level, Batam — Things to do in Batam

They also converted a breakwater into a bar — a pretty cool concept if you ask me! And with prices here being very reasonable, time will slip away but your hard-earned moolah won’t.

I would have loved to have their specialty Next Level Nasi Goreng (Rp45,000) or hang out at the sea-facing bar. But since we were fuelling up at our next location, I only got myself an iced peach tea (Rp28,000) this time around!

Opening hours: 9AM – 12AM Address: Gold Coast Batam, Batam City, Riau Islands 29432, Indonesia

Lunch at Golden Prawn

Food at Golden Prawn, Batam — Things to do in Batam

Golden Prawn 933 is a great kelong seafood restaurant to have freshly cooked local dishes at a reasonable price point! We got to pick out fresh fish for the sweet and sour dish Rp67,000 (~S$6) and decided on the staple sambal kangkong Rp110,000 (~S$10) plus a tofu hotplate Rp123,000 (~S$11) for our meat-free pals!

Tofu egg dish at Golden Prawn, Batam — Things to do in Batam

We didn’t expect this much egg hiding under all the tofu but it was so good we had no complaints! But the sambal kangkong could have been spicier though 🌶️.

Cost: ~Rp100,000-Rp168,000/pax (~S$9 – S$15/pax) Opening hours: 9:30AM – 11PM Address: Jl. Golden Prawn, Tj. Buntung, Kec. Bengkong, Kota Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29458, Indonesia

Racing at Golden City Go-kart

Sitting in go-karts at Golden City Go-kart, Batam — Things to do in Batam

Zooming around at Golden City Go-kart while having mini competitions with each other was one way to override the impending food coma.

We’ve never tried go-karting before but after a short safety briefing, we were speeding like pros and had a great time 🏎️. It turned out to be pretty straightforward even for non-drivers like us. I never considered go-karting an activity to do when I’m looking for fun but now I might just try the courses we have in Singapore!

Tickets for go-karting experience at Golden City go-kart — Things to do in Batam

All tickets allow for 10 minutes on the track — but I think it was clear we didn’t want to leave so they let us have a few more rounds since it was just us on the tracks!

There’s also an option for a double go-kart (Rp250,000) which gives you the chance to sit beside your bestie and let them steer you if you have severe apprehension about being behind the wheel.

Cost: Rp200,000 for a single Go-kart Super Car Opening hours: 8AM -5PM Address: Jl. Bengkong Laut, Tj. Buntung, Kec. Bengkong, Kota Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29444, Indonesia

Archery or Air Rifle at Belalang Adventure

Entrance to Belalang Adventure, Batam — Things to do in Batam

After our go-karting fun, we walked 5 minutes to the nearby Belalang Adventure — a multi-activity playground offering high-element courses, paintball games, archery, ATV, and air rifle experience!

Using an air-rifle at Belaying Adventure, Batam — Things to do in Batam

Between the three of us, we split 15 arrows for a round of archery and 30 pellets for the air rifle experience — we had enough fun this way and it allowed us to share the cost too! We spent about 40 minutes here but they seem generally chill about how long you take to finish your round as long as there are not many visitors.

*Pro-tip: Call in to check if the high-element course is open — it might be closed on some days for routine maintenance.

Cost: Rp60,000 for Archery and Rp100,000 for Air Rifle Opening hours: 9AM – 5PM Address: Golden City, Bengkong Laut, Kec. Bengkong, Kota Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29444, Indonesia

Dinner at a Cheryl Signature Cafe

Front facade of Cheryl Signature Cafe, Batam — Things to do in Batam

For dinner, we headed to Cheryl Signature Cafe — a casual diner by the waterside. There’s a wooden floating platform that extends into the water where we could lounge. The platform was more stable than expected though so I didn’t feel any semblance of floating at all.

Having drinks at the floating platform of Cheryl Signature Cafe, Batam — Things to do in Batam

The vegetarians amongst us had the créme spinach pasta (Rp35,000). We also ordered a chicken salted egg rice bowl (Rp28,000) and non-alcoholic mojitos (Rp25,000). The food came in surprisingly large portions despite the price and was pretty filling.

Food and drinks served at Cheryl Signature Cafe, Batam — Things to do in Batam

The cafe is a prime spot to catch the sunset but unfortunately, it was kind of gloomy when we were there. Plus, it started drizzling halfway through our meal, so it was a good thing there are sheltered seats here too!

Opening hours: 11AM – 12AM Address: Bengkong Laut, Batam City, Riau Islands, Indonesia

Nightcap at Altitude Bar, Marriott Hotel

Signature bartender drink at Altitude bar on top of Marriott Hotel, Batam — Things to do in Batam

A drink I had at Altitude Bar — tastes very much like rum!

One of the perks of staying at Marriott Hotel is the Altitude Bar ! Since it opens till late, we dropped by for a nightcap here after an eventful day.

*Pro-tip: You can request for a bartender specialty drink if you want an aesthetically-pleasing shot for the gram!

At Rp190,000 (~S$17) each for our bartender specialty drinks though, prices here are a little steep. But we tried a drink each anyway so we could stay for the vibes.

The drink I had is a perfect choice if you’re a rum kinda person — which I’m not. But at least the pictures turned out pretty! If you don’t need a picture for the gram, I’d recommend you to stick to your usual order instead.

Regardless, observing the Singapore skyline while vibing to a live DJ at the bar was pretty fun! Eventually, we moved away from the bar and ventured to the left-most part of the roof — towards an area with circular tables for a quieter experience.

Opening hours: 5PM – 11PM (Sun – Thu), 5PM – 12AM (Fri – Sat) Address: Roof level, Batam Marriott Hotel Harbour Bay, Harbour Bay Downtown, Jl. Dying, Ken Sungai Jodoh, Ken Batu Ampar, Batam 29453, Indonesia

Breakfast at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel

Buffet breakfast at Harbour Bay Marriott Hotel Batam - Things to do in Batam

The breakfast spread at Marriott Hotel was indulgent, to say the least — there are cheese platters, noodle bars, pastries, local and Indian cuisine, and a free-flow juice bar.

I started with some butter croissants then moved on to a mushroom omelette and proceeded to have multiple servings of Indonesian fried rice. Buffet breakfast starts at 6AM and ends at 11AM — I’d say get a bang for your buck and be the first to enter and last to leave the dining hall 😉

Hike at Panbil Nature Reserve

Palawan Forest at Panbil Nature Reserve - Things to do in Batam

Panbil Nature Reserve was newly opened in 2022 and from what our guide shared with us, there will also be high-element courses available within the park soon!

We took on the guided Semar Hiking Package (Rp250,000/pax) — which includes a guided hike in the Palawan Forest Area, visiting the Sambar Deer Sanctuary, and a meal voucher.

The Semar Hike isn’t a relaxing hike in the forest looking at pitcher plants like we thought it’d be. It turned out rather challenging — we even found ourselves swinging from vines at one point! But it was all good fun and we were looking forward to interacting with the deers afterwards.

Feeding Sambar Deers at Panbil Nature Reserve, Batam - Things to do in Batam

So en-deer-ing 🦌

We got a chance to feed the deer while visiting the Sambar Deer sanctuary. But do take note — although feeding is included in the package, deers are notoriously elusive animals so whether or not they’re up for a nibble is anyone’s guess!

Either way, even if you don’t get to feed them, watching these graceful Sambar Deers from the perimeter of the fence is still a treat though! Cause we can almost never spot them in Singapore.

Fun fact: It’s quite common to find quartz crystals while on a hike here too, although it definitely takes a trained eye! Ask your guide to show you some of his finds or you can buy one off him for ~Rp55,000!

After feeding the deer, it was time for us to grab a meal. Using our meal vouchers, we had good old Indonesian fried rice and noodles for lunch at the in-house cafe. Plus, free coconut water too!

*Pro-tip: Contact Panbil Nature Reserve on WhatsApp for ease of communication and booking of the hikes.

Opening hours: 10AM – 6PM (Mon – Fri), 9AM – 6PM (Sat – Sun) Address: Jalan Kantong Semar, Panbil, Batam City, Indonesia

Popping by Sense Coffee & Pool

Sitting by the pool at Sense Coffee & Pool - Things to do in Indonesia

Sense Coffee and Pool has quite a cool concept — cafe-goers can choose to hang at the indoor or outdoor seats, or get a cuppa and have a dip in the pool!

Catching up on some emails here wouldn’t be a problem either — we spotted at least five power points!

Doing some remote work at Sense Coffee & Pool - Things to do in Indonesia

There’s an array of dishes here from western to local food all ranging from ~Rp28,000 to Rp50,000 and drinks start from Rp16,000. We kept things simple and got some iced caramel lattes (Rp29,000) which were alright for the price point.

They accept card payments so don’t worry about having to bring too much cash!

Cost of pool entry: Rp50,000 for unlimited hours Opening hours: 9AM – 8PM (Mon – Sat), 8AM – 9PM (Sun) Address: Komp. Centre Park No. 3, Taman Baloi, Batam Kota, Batam City, Riau Islands 29432, Indonesia

Bar Pools and Sunset at Turi Beach

Having drinks at the pool bar of Turi Beach Resort - things to do in Indonesia

A 30-minute Gojek ride later, we found ourselves at Turi Beach — a private beach only accessible to guests of Turi Beach Resort . But thankfully it’s not that exclusive, we were allowed in after paying an entry fee of Rp150,000 😉.

Best part is that the price includes a set meal that offered us a choice of local fried rice or noodles and a cold drink, usage of the pool, and pool towels!

Looking at the jetty at Turi Beach Resort - Things to do in Indonesia

We weren’t told what time we had to leave the resort premises so we ended up spending 4 hours alternating between hanging out on the beach swings, drinking at the pool bar, and walking on the jetty.

As someone who values peace and quiet, the entry fee is well worth it. And since there’s no time limit, no one’s stopping you from lounging out here the whole day.

Cost: Rp150,000/pax Address: Jl. Hang Lekiu, Nongsa, Batam 29465 Indonesia

Total Relaxation at Absolute Spa

Spa room with jacuzzi at Absolute Spa - Things to do in Indonesia

We ended our trip with a Full Glow Spa Package (~S$36) at Absolute Spa and were treated to a foot bath, body scrub, body mask, and access to the sauna.

To top it off, the package included a specialty treatment of choice so between the three of us, we chose head and shoulder massage, ear candling, and facial acupressure treatment!

Ear candling at Absolute Spa - Things to do in Indonesia

I got the ear candling treatment — this removes earwax and is believed to alleviate sinus symptoms! It really looks much more intense than it feels, I was actually so relaxed that I eventually fell asleep to the soft crackling sounds of the fire and gentle massaging of my pressure points.

We also really loved the fact that our rooms came with a built-in jacuzzi and shower so we didn’t have to move from one room to another. And being served iced-tea, ginger tea and tapioca chips post-treatment was just *chef’s kiss*.

Using the jacuzzi at Absolute Spa, Batam - Things to do in Indonesia

The clean rooms and friendly staff definitely added value to the experience! If I were in Batam again just for a day, I’d definitely call in and make an appointment before catching my ferry back.

Opening hours: 10AM – 10PM Address: Ruko Penuin Blok OA No.12 – 12A, Batu Selicin, Kec. Lubuk Baja, Kota Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29444, Indonesia

How to Plan a Quick Weekend Getaway in Batam

View of the sea from Wisata Ocarina - Things to do in Indonesia

I didn’t think Batam had this much to offer but now that I do, I’ll be thinking of the next time I can lounge on Turi Beach and have another relax-sesh at Absolute Spa .

Here are some tips if you’re planning your own weekend Batam itinerary.

1) Book a Ferry

Book your ferry tickets online (~S$73/pax for two-way) a few days in advance — remember to arrange for a return trip as tickets get snapped up fast, especially during the weekends.

*Pro-tip: Use code <THETRAVELINTERN> on Klo ok to get 5% off the ferry and activities * with a min. spend of S$50 (discount cap at S$15) at checkout. One-time use only! (* – list of excluded activities )

Also note that you’ll need to exchange your e-ticket for a boarding pass at Sindo Ferry’s counter, located on level three of Harbourfront Centre.

2) Register for E-sim

Check that your phone model is compatible with an eSIM, which is much more hassle-free. We got the 3-day package (~S$8 inclusive of 1GB data per day) and activated it on our phones just 10 minutes before boarding the ferry from Singapore!

3) Convert Currencies at Harbourfront Centre

Cash is still king in Batam so it’s best to have a little more on hand!

If you don’t have time to get cash changed beforehand, check out AGM Money Changer at Singapore Cruise Center . It’s located on the second floor right by the ferry departure gates and opens at 7AM daily!

4) Insurance

Last and most importantly, remember to get travel insurance in case of any unexpected circumstances. We got ours with Travelcare’s Essential Plan (S$4.30/day), which also covers Covid-19 related expenses.

5) Accommodation

Batam has four harbours — Batam Center , Sekupang , Harbour Bay and Nongsapura . So pick your accommodation wisely to reduce travel time from harbour to hotel!

Although Marriott Hotel is a 20-minute Gojek ride from Batam Center where we disembarked, we picked it anyway for the luxurious experience! Alternatively, HARRIS Hotel (~S$57/night) is right beside Batam Center.

It’s pretty simple to prep for a trip to this neighbouring island and now that you know of these things to do in Batam, a mental reset is just an hour and a weekend away!

Discover the Best of Batam with Our 3-Day Itinerary

Batam Itinerary - Batam is one of the cities in the Riau Islands Province (Kepulauan Riau) that is famous in Indonesia for its industrial area. Not only does Batam have beautiful natural scenery, as with most Indonesian islands surrounded by the sea, but it also offers tempting shopping tourism. Batam tourism itself is quite unique, so it should be on your travel wishlist.

Located in Nongsa on the northeast coast of Batam, Montigo Resort Nongsa is a five-minute drive from Nongsapura Ferry Terminal and a 30-minute drive from Hang Nadim International Airport.

Day 2: Discover the Best of Batam

There are so many things to do in Batam . Start your day with a visit to some of the iconic locations on your Batam itinerary :

Barelang Bridge - Batam Itinerary

Barelang Bridge is an iconic bridge that stands for Batam, Rempang, and Galang. There are six bridges that connect the islands of Batam, Rempang, Galang, Nipah Island, and Galang Baru Island. Visitors usually capture the moment when visiting the bridge, with photo spots usually chosen on the bridge or from the Dataran Dendang Melayu on the left side of the bridge.

After capturing the moment at Barelang Bridge, you can go shopping directly at Nagoya Hill.

Nagoya Hill - Batam Itinerary

Nagoya Hill, one of the largest and cheapest shopping centers in Batam, will spoil you for shopping. It is known as a shopping center with low prices because of its position in a strategic area of international trade. Moreover, this shopping mall applies the citywalk concept, "One Stop Travel Shopping And Fun," because it is built in one large area dominated by walking access.

You will find a wide range of vendor outlets, from food vendors selling Indonesian and foreign culinary specialties to branded clothing and bag traders, to souvenir traders both typical of Batam and abroad.

Satisfied with shopping, it's time for you to fill your stomach at Rezeki Seafood Restaurant. This seafood restaurant is a favorite of Batam residents and foreign workers in Batam. The location of the restaurant is in the Nongsa area and has a sea view, so you can enjoy fresh seafood with a beautiful beach view.

Apart from that, you can also enjoy dinner at the Golden Prawn. You can choose the seafood you want yourself, weigh it, then wait for it to be served by the restaurant. Of course, this makes your seafood very fresh when eaten.

Beautiful sea views with live music make the second day end exciting and fun.

Day 3: Experience the Thrills of Batam

Your third day trip in Batam will certainly be more enjoyable. Some of the itineraries that you can visit are:

Get your adrenaline pumping with a visit to the Batam Cable Ski Park, where you can try your hand at wakeboarding or water skiing. This water sports location is always crowded during weekends when many foreign tourists come.

It is strategically located in the Marina area only three minutes from the Ferry Water Front City terminal. The cable ski is located on a lake of about 5 square hectares and is surrounded by forests that add to the refreshing natural beauty. In the cable ski arena, there are also experienced instructors who guide tourists.

Batam Miniature Park - Batam Itinerary

Next, visit the Batam Miniature Park to learn about the island's history and culture. This Batam itinerary is located in the Golden City area, Bengkong Laut, and contains dozens of miniatures of traditional houses from every province in Indonesia. The traditional houses here are made exactly like real traditional houses but are mini in size, approximately 1.5 meters high.

Built on a wide expanse of grass, each traditional house is surrounded by a hedge, so that each house looks as if it has its own garden and yard. This is very interesting because it can add insight and general knowledge to children and foreign tourists who come to visit.

And now, end your day with a relaxing spa treatment at one of Batam's luxurious spas, Eska Wellness Spa Massage. Here, you can pamper yourself after a day of sightseeing in Batam. Eska Wellness Spa Massage provides nail art, nail extension, gel extension, acrylic, treatment for fungal nails, and other treatments. Massage and spa services provide various services such as sports massage, aromatherapy massage, physiotherapy, and various types of spa services.

For these services, customers will be pampered with a touch of soothing massage using organic spices. For the body scrub treatment, Eska Wellness Batam does not use sand, like spa services at several other beauty service places, but uses organic rice flour so it doesn't cause pain and irritation. For facial services, customers will be served using high-tech machines and beauty products that have been proven to be effective.

You can pamper yourself to your heart's content at the end of your vacation in Batam.

Those are the 3D2N series that you can enjoy while on vacation in Batam. Apart from the tours above, of course, there are many other interesting tours that you can visit if you have longer vacation time, such as Ranoh Island, Funtasy Island, Welcome To Batam Monument, Kepri Coral Batam, Waterboom Queen Garden, and many more. These locations will make your holiday experience even more enjoyable.

From sparkling beach life to ancient temples, Batam has something for everyone. Here are the top attractions and things to do in Batam.

#1 Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya

This striking Buddhist temple is one of the largest in Indonesia , and is known for its blend of traditional Buddist and modern architecture. The main prayer hall features a statue of the Maitreya Buddha, considered to be the future Buddha in Buddhist tradition. The statue is 25m tall and is surrounded by smaller statues of other Buddhist deities.

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya is also a cultural hub that hosts various activities and events throughout the year, such as meditation classes, Dharma talks and Buddhist festivals. The temple’s vegetarian restaurant is worth sampling.

#2 Tua Pek Kong temple

This Chinese temple is one of the oldest and most revered spiritual sites in the city. It is dedicated to the deity Tua Pek Kong, who is said to protect sailors and fishermen. His statue is inside the main prayer hall.

The temple's architecture is a mix of Chinese and local Indonesian styles, and features colourful embellishments and intricate carvings. The temple is particularly popular during the Chinese New Year, when it hosts various events and celebrations.

#3 Barelang Bridge

The Barelang Bridge is a chain of six bridges connecting Batam, Rempang, and Galang. Each of the six has a unique design and spans different parts of the strait; the name "Barelang" is derived from the names of the three islands.

The Bareling Bridge has become a popular tourist attraction in Batam, with many visitors coming to admire the views of the strait and the surrounding islands.

#4 Nongsa Beach

Nongsa’s white sands, warm clear waters, lush greenery and stunning sunsets make for an unsurprisingly alluring combination. A few waterfront resorts here even have private beaches, where visitors can bask in a more exclusive experience.

Nongsa Beach is also a popular spot for water sports – kayaking, jet skiing and parasailing are all available.

#5 Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

The best way to get around Batam is by taxi but there are a number of cheaper options too.

Taxis are widely available in Batam and are a convenient option for those who prefer a private and comfortable mode of transportation. It is recommended to use reputable taxi companies and negotiate the fare before getting in the car.

Public buses are a cheap and convenient way to get around Batam, with several routes covering different parts of the island. However, buses can be crowded and may not be the most comfortable option.

By motorbike taxi

Motorbike taxis, known as ojeks , are a popular mode of transportation in Batam, particularly for short distances. However, safety may be a concern, and it is recommended to wear a helmet and negotiate the fare before getting on the bike.

Car rental is a popular option for those who prefer to drive themselves and explore the island at their own pace. Several car rental companies are available in Batam, and it is recommended to book in advance.

The number of days needed to explore Batam depends on your travel plans and interests. If you are interested in experiencing the island's beaches, water sports, and outdoor activities, a 2-3 day trip to Batam would be sufficient.

This will give you enough time to explore popular attractions like the Barelang Bridge, the Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall, and the Batam Miniature Park. If you're planning to take day trips to nearby islands such as Bintan or Singapore, you may want to add an extra day or two to your itinerary.

The best time to visit Batam is during the dry season (May to September), especially in terms of weather. Temperatures sit at around 30°C, and things are generally dry and sunny.

However, it’s worth remembering that this is also the most popular time to visit, and things can get pretty crowded. To avoid the crowds and still enjoy good weather, visit from March to April and October to November.

Monsoon is generally from November to February. Heavy rainfall and the odd thunderstorm can be expected.

Most people will travel to Batam from Singapore using fast ferries but the island has its own airport as well.

AirAsia, Garuda, Sriwijaya and Lion Air have flights from Jakarta to Batam. Hang Nadim Airport is on the eastern side of Pulau Batam.

Ferries frequently zip back and forth between Singapore and the Riau islands. Crossings from Singapore’s Harbourfront Centre (the main terminal) take 30–60 minutes, depending on the type of boat and destination in Batam. There is also a boat from Malaysia to Batam Centre. Ferry operators include Batam Fast, Majestic Ferry and Sindo Ferry.

Abang Island Snorkeling: A Crazy 1 Day Trip!

Abang Island Snorkeling : There are many places for snorkeling experiences in Indonesia. The closest authentic snorkeling spot to Singapore is in Abang Island. I call it authentic because apart from the snorkeling.

One thing I loved about Abang Island was getting to stay with the real locals by the seashore. Sounds like your kind of holiday? Climb aboard on Abang Island snorkeling !

We’d been to beaches, resorts, and banana boat rides, but never to a rural island just for snorkeling! It was an exciting beginning as we packed up our cars.

pulau batam trip

Before we get into the itinerary guide on Abang Island Snorkeling, here’s why you should visit it in the first place.

Table of Contents

Why visit Abang Island in Batam

Being young and living in Batam back then, I never realized I was living right by an underwater paradise. But now I do.

With Indonesia comprising 76% of its geographical area as water, it has some of the world’s largest and beautiful underwater life, aquatic species, and water resources. Not to mention it being one of the most popular scuba diving destinations . Thus explaining its popularity for tourism.

However, Bali is the most famous vacation island for most travelers. What most don’t know is that most of Indonesia’s rich aquatic world and deep forests are still offbeat places. Abang Island is one such offbeat part of Indonesia .

To folks looking to explore Indonesia as travelers, this place is a must. When you visit Abang Island, you’re really traveling. As tourism is still young here, you get to meet the locals and understand their way of living on the water better.

And yes, the most important part, with Abang Island being a remote part of Indonesia, not many people visit it. Untouched by the majority of flocking tourists, it makes it a quiet blissful spot to visit. The underwater life of hundreds of species and corals to witness. A treasure to keep to yourself.

Abang Island is one of the best and closest spots for Snorkeling close to Singapore. And it’s cheap!

pulau batam trip

Abang Island Snorkeling – How to Get there?

Before we get into the whole trip, Abang Island being the spot stowed away from many, it’s tough to find contacts to book your package tour. We’ll talk about the tour package soon.

Abang Island is a part of Batam Riau .

From Batam Center, it’s a one-and-a-half-hour drive to get to the south of Batam (Over the Barelang Bridge). From there, there’s no path for driving. You need to book a boat to take you to Abang Island – this is a motorboat big enough to hold two families.

It’s also called Bot Pompong. Well, every boat has its skipper. It’s a 12-kilometer ride to Abang Island on the boat.

How to Get to Abang Island from Batam?

  • Drive/Hire a taxi from Batam Center to the South of the Riau Islands : Pass over the Barelang bridges and to Galang Island.
  • Get on your booked boat (Bot Pompong) to take you to Abang Island.
  • Ride 12 kilometers on the boat to get there.

For better guidance, you can opt for a snorkeling package where they pick you up right at Batam Center and take you straight to Abang Island .

As we lived in Indonesia for years, all of our families have been in and around beaches here for a long time. Thus it wasn’t difficult for us to find Abang Island with our own vehicles.

abang island snorkeling

Abang Island Snorkeling Package

With the locals of this island being remote, it’s a little tricky to find Abang Island. Here’s an unbiased site to check out snorkeling packages.

While the page mentions a one-day trip to Abang island,  I recommend staying a night with the locals for a night. We stayed at Abang Island for a night and started the snorkeling tour in the morning. We got to experience a night away from the busy world. A night with almost no network.

With the humidity and no air-conditioning, we sat at the edge of a narrow pathway outside our homestays with our legs dangling by the waters. It was a night to remember!

To those who wish to only opt for the 1-day trip, look for accommodations in Batam Center.

Accommodation in Batam

With Batam Riau close to Singapore and having great beaches, there are tons of resorts and homestays to pick from. Pick the ones close by the beach. KTM Resorts, Nongsa Point, and Turi Beach are some of the most popular and authentic resorts for ages.

These are all beachside resorts. Here are more resorts and hotels on Booking.com along with their prices. Go for the beach sides!

Search for your preferred stay here:

Budget accommodation : For fellow travelers looking for budget accommodation, check out Hostelworld. Recently, a few cheap stays in Batam have been set up and listed on HostelWorld. Check them out here:

Things to pack for Abang Island

  • Three sets of summer clothes : Two sets for the night stay and the next morning snorkeling. The last for change of clothes after you return wet.
  • Sun protection products : I recommend sunscreen lotion when visiting Indonesia. After all, it’s a tropical country on the equator line, and the sun has great potential to damage your skin here!
  • Swimwear : Simple swimwear attire should do. Since they provide you with the snorkeling mask, flippers, and other basic snorkeling equipment, you needn’t worry about it.
  • Camera : Oh this is optional alright. But to the photography enthusiasts, you’d be missing out a great deal without a sweet camera!

Abang Island is best to visit when you’re staying in Batam Riau. Thus I’d recommend booking a stay in Batam. Check out Turi Beach Resort on HostelWorld . I’ve been there myself, it’s great!

Within an hour’s drive and the boat ride, we made it to Abang Island by evening. We stayed there for the night.

We began with the Abang island snorkeling the following morning.

Abang Island Snorkeling – Stay for a night

It’s an island but we didn’t stay much on land though. Even our stays were on shallow waters away from the shore.

We were more in stilt houses- the kind of house that I’d love to stay in again! These were houses raised above the water level with the help of piles.

We moved around to other houses with narrow pathways built either of wood or concrete.

abang island homestay

This small village lies in the water! We’d accommodations booked before our arrival there. It was a stay with the locals. The people there were hospitable. We had three small stilt houses booked.

For dinner, one of the families that were conducting us invited us over to their home. There was fresh fish for the night! We didn’t have trouble communicating with the locals as we already knew Bahasa Indonesia.

Here’s a list of common Indonesian phrases to learn for travelers that’ll come in handy when visiting Indonesia.

fresh fish

Spending the night at Abang Island

Being used to air-conditioning, it was a bit tough sleeping without it in the room. There wasn’t much ventilation in our rooms either.

We didn’t complain much about it though. We didn’t want to sleep much anyway. After an hour of trying to sleep, we decided to get out of the homestay. Besides, there was a bit of a mosquito problem. So don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent for the night stay just in case.

We sat down outside on the edge of the narrow pathway facing the sea with our legs dangling over the waters. Now the sea level was higher and the waves hit against the piles harder.

The lust of cool breeze outside and the whispers of the waves wouldn’t let us back in. And so we sat. We sat there for hours, chatting about all the stupid things we did back in our childhood.

Looking forward to travel-blogging? Here are some decent courses I picked for you from Udemy to kickstart your blogging. Check them out!

At last, let’s talk about what we were here for – Abang Island snorkeling !

Start the Morning with Snorkeling

When we woke up, it was already late. We’d overslept and everyone already had their swimsuits on. So we gobbled up noodles provided for breakfast. And off we went to the core of our trip there – snorkeling!

After fumbling around with the sizes of our flippers and swimwear, we got ’em and entered the boat again. They took us to shallow waters nearby smaller uninhabited islands where we’d get the best snorkeling experience.

And so was it the best snorkeling! We were first in the shallows where we could feel the land beneath us.

Then with the life jackets on, we were guided a little deeper.

rainbow fish, snorkeling

All we had to do was lie on our faces with the snorkeling masks on. And we’d see the world of fishes beneath us. Starfish , Sea Anemones , Corals , you name it- they were all there!

The waters being clear made the colors of the marine ecosystem beneath us more beautiful. Even under the blazing sun and the thousands of sea urchins waiting to prick us underneath, it was worth the sight.

However, the sea urchins played their part in perfecting the elegance of life underwater, didn’t they?

Conclusion – Heading Back Home

After hours of snorkeling, we got back to our homestays by noon. After lunch, we packed up to leave. On our way back to Batam on our boat, we could’ve talked about the snorkeling experience, but nope. We were way too exhausted!

Super-tanned and exhausted, all we needed was a big night’s sleep. We didn’t even bother speaking to one another. We all knew we’d enjoyed our stay and Abang Island snorkeling.

Say you haven’t snorkeled yet and wish to spend an evening close to the seas and nature, then the Abang Island snorkeling experience is waiting for you!

  • Note : Some people don’t like getting sun-tanned. And the heat in Indonesia is harmful to your skin. It’s best to take precautionary measures and apply sunscreen before you go.

Hu Lihua salah seorang turis asal Shicuan, Cina, mengaku baru pertama kali menanam mangrove. "Ini adalah pengalaman luar biasa, saya sangat senang," kata Hu Lihua kepada Tempo , awal April 2024 lalu.

Kawah Ijen Jadi Perhatian Media Internasional setelah Insiden Kecelakaan Turis Cina

Setiap satu orang turis menanam satu bibit mangrove.
