Dubai Safari Park – A Great Wildlife Project
Dubai Safari Park, located in Al Warqa’a is another jewel in the crown of the happening city. Opened on 12th of December 2017 the Dubai Safari Park promises to be an affordable and economical recreational option for all. This project replaces the 50-year-old zoo in Jumeirah. Lack of space and adverse conditions of the Dubai Zoo was a point of main concern which led to this initiative. The safari park now houses the existing animals from the Jumeirah Zoo plus new ones. This massive wildlife project consists of 250 species, including endangered species.
Some of the critically endangered species were announced to be a part of an international breeding program involving the breeding of animals to send them to other zoos or to be released into the wild. There is now a total of more than 2,500 animals with a planned addition of approximately 2,500 more. The area of the safari park is spread over 120 hectares of land, which has been divided into five villages.
Table of Contents
The Safari Village
This is not your conventional zoo where you only get to view the animals lounging around in their cages or small enclosures created for them. You now get to view them in a more natural habitat.
For a tour of the safari village, an air-conditioned car specially designed for the tour will give you a classic, close-up view of the exotic animals and their lifestyles. Consider it an escapade into the jungles of Africa and Asia, where you can behold lush, tropical forest sights. Animals inhabiting the Safari Village include bears, baboons, water buffaloes, zebras, and deer. You can witness the majestic brown lions soaking up the sun, cheetahs on their racing tracks and tigers in their enclosure with the splendid, gurgling waterfalls to keep them cool.

Other attractions include brown bears, a bird theatre with 6 shows and feeding areas for giraffes. An expedition of this region of the Safari Park can take anywhere from 45 to 120 minutes.
The Arabian Village
Now let’s enter the region that constitutes the Arabian village Arabian village. This tract of land consists of sandy deserts, and rocky mountains, and the steppe showing you the Arabian habitat landscape surrounding the wildlife. A steppe is a vast area of barren land without any plantation except for shrubs. A luxuriant meadow filled with a great variety of flora and fauna is a welcome sight. Populating this territory you will meet Arabian wolves, Antelopes, and Nilgais. Nilgai is the largest Asian Antelope.
Step onto a train crossing through the Arab village and watch the horses, birds, ostriches and falcons enjoying their day. It will take about 20 to 25 minutes to…

Here in the Asian village the scenery, the environment, the landscape is all set to reflect the Asian forests. You can take a walk along the dense trees of the enclosure and witness the beautiful Asian creatures. This will require at around 30 to 90 minutes of your time. Eight outdoor UAE attractions to visit before summer
By Katy Gillett
During summer in the UAE it’s much too hot to be outside for any length of time, which means there are plenty of seasonal outdoor attractions that can only be visited for about seven or eight months of the year.
From the bazaar-like pavilions at lively Global Village to the winter desert pop-up cafes that get increasingly creative year after year, these popular landmarks are best enjoyed when the weather is cool.
With only a few weeks left of the season, it's time to make the most of the pleasant mornings and late afternoons at these must-visit parks, gardens and adventure hubs before they wind down. Here are 8 attractions across the UAE to enjoy before summer gets into full swing.
The neon lights of Global Village
Global Village
Is it a theme park? Is it a market? Is it a funfair? Well, Dubai ’s beloved Global Village is all of that and more. The seasonal outdoor attraction, which opened in October and is scheduled to close on Sunday, 5 May, packs in 27 country pavilions, 3,500 retail outlets and 250 dining options, in addition to plenty of rides, funfair games, activities and events. Every year, the concept might be the same, but it ever-so-slightly reinvents itself, bringing in new performances, acts and attractions, which this year included a circus featuring jugglers, fire breathers and unicyclists, as well as a laser show and an area called Mini World, showcasing miniatures of global landmarks such as Burj Khalifa and the Eiffel Tower. Plus, it's home to some of the most authentic street food in Dubai.
Address: Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Exit 37, Dubai
Dubai Miracle Garden
Dubai Miracle Garden touts itself as the world’s largest flower-themed garden, but there are plenty more reasons to head to this foliage-strewn, 7.2 hectare seasonal attraction featuring more than 150 million blooms. For starters, there’s a Guinness World Record-holding, life-sized installation of an Airbus A380, created in collaboration with Emirates and covered in more than 500,000 fresh flowers, weighing over 100 tonnes. There’s also the kid-favourite Smurfs Village, a forest of mushroom-shaped houses and topiaries of the little blue creatures, as well as a beautiful 15-metre floral clock, a colourful umbrella tunnel and the adjacent Dubai Butterfly Garden. While it is yet to confirm its closing date for this season, it usually stays open until late May.
Address: Arjan, Dubai
Dubai Safari Park is home to hundreds of animals
Dubai Safari Park
Three-thousand animals from all over the world call this 119-hectare site home. Dubai Safari Park, which reopened after a three-year transformation in 2021, is not just an attraction, but also an area for conservation and education. It’s open to the public between October and May, with the visitor areas split into five attractions – African Village, Asian Village, Arabian Desert Safari, Explorer Village and Adventure Valley – each encompassing different animals in climate-suitable habitats and interactive experiences such as rhino and giraffe-feeding, and a drive-through safari excursion. There’s also a petting zoo and child-friendly aviary where kids can feed the birds.
Address: Al Warqa 5, Dubai
Dubai Garden Glow is one of the city's quirkiest attractions
Dubai Garden Glow
In a city full of weird and wonderful attractions, this has to be one of the quirkiest. Dubai Garden Glow is essentially a glow-in-the-dark garden with five themed areas, including a dinosaur park with over 120 animatronic prehistoric creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous eras. More than 10 million LED lightbulbs illuminate the zones, which also include an art-themed park, ice sculptures of wild animals, optical illusions in the Magic Park and a 3D forest set-up where children can explore and learn. While it is yet to confirm when it will close this year, it usually shuts from early June to mid-September.
Address: Zabeel Park, Dubai
Hatta Watchtower, a stone fort on a hilltop in Hatta
Hatta Wadi Hub
Hatta , an exclave of Dubai high in the Hajar Mountains, is the perfect antidote to the intense activity of everyday city life. While the village is open year-round, with attractions such as the centuries-old Hatta Heritage Village, Hatta Dam and JA Hatta Fort Hotel always welcoming tourists, most of the outdoor adventures are only doable between October and May. Hatta Wadi Hub is a go-to for lovers of the great outdoors, as everything from mountain biking, hiking and kayaking to zorbing, tube sliding and gel balls are on offer. There’s a new aerial park with zip lines, a giant swing and high ropes course. Plus, Hatta’s chalet-style Terra Cabins allow families to enjoy a charming, hotel-like experience, with minibars, walk-in rain showers and on-demand multimedia projectors, in the heart of this rugged mountainous landscape.

A rhinoceros rests in the shade at Sharjah Safari
Sharjah Safari
Over 120 species, including rare animals from Africa, live in this 800-hectare park, located in Sharjah ’s Al Bridi Nature Reserve, where the focus is also on conservation and research. The experience opens to the public annually in September and encompasses 12 themed areas, each representing a different region of Africa, featuring flora and fauna unique to those lands and marine environments. The rarest of them all is the black rhinoceros, with other animals including ring-tailed lemurs, lions, African elephants, Nile crocodiles, zebras, springboks and Bridi, the first African female giraffe to be born at Sharjah Safari. It will likely close its doors in June for the summer months.

The boardwalk at Jubail Mangrove Park
Jubail Mangrove Park
Wandering along the boardwalk at Abu Dhabi ’s Jubail Mangrove Park is an exercise in serenity. Surrounded by the wildlife-teeming mangrove forests and cool waters, nature-lovers can spot myriad avian and marine species native to the area. Spot turtles, herons and gazelles, which live alongside mangrove periwinkles, mud creepers and flamingos. While it’s open throughout the year, with activities such as guided tours, yoga and kayaking at sunrise, sunset and under the night’s sky, it’s best seen during the cooler months. Whether you want to see it during high or low tide depends on your interests. During high tide, the mangroves are submerged in water, creating a stunning, picture-perfect landscape that reflects the blues and greens of the sky and surrounding greenery. Low tide reveals the intricate root systems that keep this essential ecosystem living and breathing, as well as the diverse marine life that reside in the tidal pools.

One Degree Winter
Every year, the hungry and adventurous head down the Dubai-Hatta motorway to the Sharjah border where during the winter months you can find the UAE’s original desert café. One Degree Winter, which now also has bricks-and-mortar locations across the UAE, started a trend of seasonal pop-up venues, which have proliferated in the past few years, but it’s still a must-visit for its casual, cool and authentic vibes. Sit back on the comfortable sofas surrounded by sand in every direction while enjoying the Arabic music that blasts through the speakers and a cool breeze that ripples through the desert dunes. It also has a menu of excellent coffee and indulgent dishes that ooze with cheese or are laced with sugar syrup (think juicy burgers or luqaimat, sweet Emirati dumplings). This year it closes at the end of April.

Dubai floods: Chaos, queues and submerged cars after UAE hit by record rains
Passengers report being stranded in the desert city as the international hub struggles in the wake of unusually heavy rain
Don’t blame cloud seeding for the Dubai floods
Dubai is wrestling with the aftermath of extraordinary torrential rains that flooded the desert city, with people describing harrowing stories of spending the night in their cars, and air passengers enduring chaotic scenes at airports.
Up to 259.5mm (10.2in) of rain fell on the usually arid country of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, the most since records began 75 years ago . The state-run WAM news agency called the rains on Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949”.
As the sun returned on Wednesday, along with it came stories of people stuck in cars and offices through an arduous night.
“It was one of the most horrific situations I had ever experienced,” said one Dubai resident in his 30s, who did not want to give his name, after his 15-minute commute turned into a 12-hour ordeal on flooded roads.
At Dubai’s airport, one of the busiest for international travel, with nearly every flight repeatedly delayed, Emirates passengers were told to stay away “unless absolutely necessary”.
Frustration from those already there began to build.
A large crowd formed at a connections desk, clapping and whistling in protest as they waited for information.
“They are completely lost, it’s complete chaos – no information, nothing,” fumed one passenger, who did not want to be named, after a 12-hour wait, Agence France-Presse reported.
Standing water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. One couple called the situation “absolute carnage”. They spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity in order to speak freely in a country with strict laws that criminalise critical speech. “You cannot get a taxi. There’s people sleeping in the Metro station. There’s people sleeping in the airport.”
The BBC reported other passengers were diverted to Dubai World Central Airport – also known as Al Maktoum airport – telling the broadcaster they had been “living on duty free” and that water was in short supply.
One furious British traveller told PA Media that once his flight was diverted to Dubai World Central, he had not been given any food or water either. “It’s just been an absolute disaster. We’re stuck here and seven hours without a single update is inexcusable.”
Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, posted on X on Wednesday night: “Customers should expect delays with departures and arrivals” and that while some passengers had been able to get to their destinations “we are aware that many are still waiting to get on flights”.
The airline cancelled all check-ins and announced that it would continue to suspend services until Thursday morning, apologising for the disruptions. Those on FlyDubai, Emirates’ low-cost sister airline, also faced delays.
Dubai airport posted on X early on Thursday that flights had resumed from Terminal 1 but urged people to travel to the airport only if they had a confirmed booking, as flights continued to be “delayed and disrupted”.
Paul Griffiths, the airport’s CEO, acknowledged the issues with flooding on Wednesday. “It remains an incredibly challenging time. In living memory, I don’t think anyone has ever seen conditions like it,” Griffiths told the state-owned talk radio station Dubai Eye.
Neighbouring countries were also hit by heavy rains earlier this week, including Oman, where 20 people have died, including 10 schoolchildren swept away in a vehicle with an adult.
Soldiers were deployed to badly affected areas of the sultanate, which rests on the eastern edge of the Arabian peninsula, to evacuate people trapped by flooding.
Schools will stay closed in Dubai until next week, authorities said, underscoring the difficulty of the clean-up.
In an unusual direct intervention, the UAE president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered “authorities to quickly work on studying the condition of infrastructure throughout the UAE and to limit the damage caused”, official media said.
The president also gave orders for affected families to be transferred to safe locations, said a statement carried by the WAM news agency.
Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, wrote on X about “efforts being made by teams of citizens and residents that continue day and night” as the city’s media office posted video overlayed with dramatic music of officials conferring in groups and water pumping appearing to take place in the background.
Photos too were posted of what it said showed water flooding into desert areas.

Similar scenes were visible around the Gulf state including in Sharjah, in neighbouring Dubai, where people waded through main streets and paddled around on makeshift boats.
At least one person was killed in the flooding. A 70-year-old man who was swept away in his car in Ras al-Khaimah, one of the country’s seven emirates, according to police.
The UAE government announced that remote working for most federal government employees had been extended into another day because of the impact.
