You’ll pedal past the historic Main Post, coastal bluffs, and breathtaking views of the towering Golden Gate Bridge. Try the Presidio Promenade Trail for that famous Golden Gate Bridge underbelly and coastal scenery!

Angel Island Perimeter Road

Route time: 3-5 hours

Biking Distance: 6.2 miles

Want to take the road less traveled? Hop on a ferry and head to Angel Island for a bike ride around the entire perimeter of the land ! Angel Island is a state park that offers a 6.2-mile biking loop with beautiful city, coast, and bay views. You need to pay a fee and take a ferry to the island, but it’s well worth the trip where you’ll enjoy fewer people and tons of waterfront views.

• We had the best experience here renting bikes. We found them on Google and wanted to bike across the Golden Gate bridge. They matched us with bikes that were perfect for how short I am and how tall my husband is. We filled out the paperwork and were on our way. We biked over the bridge and into Sausalito. Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the tour leave.

The tour departs daily at 10am. We ask for all guest to arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to complete their paperwork and get fitted to their bike. The tour will take 2.5-3 hours as you are guided along the San Francisco waterfront, across the Golden Gate Bridge and into sunny Sausalito. The tour departs from our Fisherman’s Wharf Tour Center, located at 2661 Taylor Street.

What is the tour cost?

The tour costs $65 (ages 12 and older) and $45 (ages 11 and under.) We also have an electric bike option that is $85 (ages 13 and older.)

Where does the tour go?

The tour starts in Fisherman’s Wharf and rides along the beautiful homes and marina waterfront. As you ride through the Golden Gate National Recreation Area you will see the Presidio and Crissy Field. There is a bathroom / coffee break along the way, and then you continue up to the Golden Gate Bridge. You will cross the majestic Golden Gate Bridge (with plenty of stops for pictures) and ride down into Sunny Sausalito where the tour concludes. Riders are then free to enjoy the quaint town of Sausalito, grab a bite to eat, and check out the quirky shops. When you are ready to come back you can bring your bike back on the ferry and return to San Francisco (ferry ticket sold separately.) We also offer a paid bike drop off in Sausalito for those who wish to leave their bikes there.

Are the bike and helmet included with the tour?

Absolutely! In fact, after the guided tour ends you may enjoy a free, bonus bike rental for the rest of the day. Helmets are always included complimentary and we highly recommend all riders wear one.

Is this tour suitable for children?

This is a beginner to intermediate tour and is suitable for all ages. We offer a variety of kid’s equipment in order to ensure that everyone is safe and comfortable on this tour (we have tag-alongs, child seats, trailers, and independent kid’s bikes.) When you arrive to check in for your tour, we will get you fitted to the bike that suits you best. 

How many people are typically on the tour?

It depends on the season, day of the week, and the tour!

Are Electric bikes necessary for this tour?

Electric bikes are not necessary but very helpful! They are pedal assist bikes that give you a boost as you go uphill/while you ride. It is certainly doable without the electric bike, but there are a few hills along the way. Those who use an electric bike will be able to zip up the hill with no problem! 

What is the difference between a guided and a self-guided tour?

A self-guided tour includes an all day bike rental , with route guidance by our team of local experts- who will show you all the best photo opportunities and places to stop. We include a free detailed handlebar map or you can download the route to your phone at the shop prior to departing. In addition to the aforementioned, a guided tour includes a professional tour guide and many stops along the way, where you will learn all of the rich history and culture about each of our unique city neighborhoods. Guided tours also include a bonus all day bike-rental after the guided tour concludes. Both Self-Guided and Guided tours include rear bike rack, bungee cords, bike bell, front handlebar bag, helmet, and lock. 

Can I take a ferry after the tour?

Normally there are ferries running 7 days a week back from Sausalito and Tiburon multiple times a day. During covid 19,the ferry runs Friday-Sunday at 12:30, 2:30, and 5:30pm. 

Can we leave the bikes in Sausalito after the tour?

Yes, we have a drop-off station in Sausalito where you can leave the bikes and we pick them up for you, for a fee. It is not booked in advance but does require you to have a phone to call us when ready to drop off in Sausalito. Please inquire with one of our team members or your tour guide for more information, or to be shown where the drop-off station is, when you check in for your tour.

Nick accommodated our schedule and has a wonderful route that is off the beaten track but still gets you to important sites like the GG Bridge and waterfront, Presidio, Haight ashbury, pacific heights etc. A key distinguishing feature is the headset in one ear that allows Nick to narrate while covering so much ground in the city. This is a guided tour where you wear a headset and listen to Nick tell you about the rich history of the beautiful neighbourhoods. We stopped at Bob’s doughnuts and he bought us a delicious doughnut. I loved the Victorian homes we saw, and the Haught-Ashbury district where we saw the painted ladies. Golden Gate state park was gorgeous. Nick offered to take many photos and welcomed questions. Creme de La creme was riding on the Golden Gate Bridge and getting some awesome photos. It helped that the weather was incredible in November. Nick and this tour were recommended to us by a teacher colleague and I mentioned to Nick that he was entertaining and knowledgeable and he seemed like a teacher and he said he used to be. Support this local one man operation and don’t forget to tip him. He gave us a great sheet with his favourite places at the end and we went to the tapas restaurant across the street and the fun pin ball place around the corner. Using an ebike was easy even though I'd only used regular bikes previously. Even with only average fitness it was completely manageable. The tour guide Nick made sure to keep our group together well at intersections and had chosen a route that made the most of bike paths. He balanced rest/snack/photos stops with riding and kept us informed of what the plans were. We each had an earpiece so we could hear instructions and commentary from Nick. It gave me confidence and helped me get my bearings in the city. We had a group of 10 + the leader, I felt like that was probably a suitable maximum. I'm so pleased I did this tour. The tour took us through so many neighbourhoods and points in SF. We also got to go up Twin Peaks (on a very clear day) and got some fantastic views! We did this tour right at the beginning of our time in SF and it gave us an excellent overview. Nick was full of information and passion. At the end he even gave us a booklet of recommendations for lots of different areas of the city. We referred to this booklet throughout the rest of our time in SF and it really added to our experience. The bikes were super easy to ride and very comfortable for over 5 hours. Got to enjoy all the sights and sounds of the city while Nick gave us a custom overview of each neighborhood we rode through. While both tours are excellent, the E-bike tour allowed us to cover much more distance and to hit the really impressive vistas from the top of San Francisco hills, including the highest point, Twin Peaks. I was amazed how easy it was to cruise up these hills on the E-bikes. The bikes, which are converted by tour-leader and company founder Nick, are easy to ride, comfortable and safe. After having to ride my own bike home after the ride, I realized I'm hooked on E-bikes! Nick is also an amazing tour leader.
