“Basically, people do the PPP programs with an agreed contract with the government, and those entail those fare adjustments. That’s why you have fare adjustments with your toll roads, or your light rail, or any PPP type of partnership,” he added.

In the meantime, the LRMC is focusing on completing its Cavite extension project, which hopes to cut travel time between Baclaran and Sucat to 10 minutes. Alfonso estimates that the first five stations of the Cavite extension line – Redemptionist station, MIA station, PITX/Asiaworld station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue station, and Dr. Santos station – will be operational by September 2024. – Rappler.com

Passengers also have the option to buy Beep cards. Having a Beep card reduces the LRT travel time since you won’t have to wait in line to purchase single journey tickets.

It‘s a stored-value smart card that has a 4-year validity from the date of purchase. No need to fill out any forms to get one. All you have to do is pay for the initial load of the card and you can start using it right away for your next LRT ride.

It doesn’t have a minimum load amount but the set maximum load amount is PHP 10,000.

The Beep card can also be used for other modes of transportation like the MRT , BGC Bus, Citylink Coach Services, and the majority of P2P buses in the city.

The maximum speed of LRT 1 and LRT 2 trains is 80 kilometers per hour.

LRT 1 Line has a 19.65 km service route. On the other hand, LRT 2 Line has a 13.8 km service route with its trains measuring 92.6 meters long.

It must be noted that eating, drinking, and smoking are not allowed inside the trains, stations, and terminals. Passengers are also not allowed to bring pets inside the trains.

If you’re riding a type of public transportation like the LRT on a daily basis, it’s important to prioritize comfort over everything else. Make sure to wear a comfortable and breezy shirt during your daily commute. Always buy clothes made with breathable material so you’ll stay cool and fresh even if it’s scorching hot.

The pouch should have enough space for you to store your Beep card, ID, spare change, and keys. This way, it will be easier for you to find your coins and card when you’re about to board the train. It saves a lot of time and effort during the commute.

Don’t leave your manners at home. Make sure to follow all the rules and don’t try to get ahead of everyone. Wait for your turn because it will definitely come.

Don’t shove and push people while trying to get into trains. Don’t be rude to other passengers because they just want to get to their destination like you. While inside the train, make some space for the other passengers if you can.

Riding the LRT during rush hour is definitely an experience that you won’t easily forget. Passengers completely fill out the trains like sardines in a can and the lines to the ticket booths and security check are unbelievably long.

Luckily for you, you can avoid the rush hour if you take the trips before 6 AM or after 9:30 AM. In the afternoon, it’s best to ride the LRT at around 4-5 PM and if you won’t make it, just wait it out and take the trips after 8:30 PM.

Getting a Beep card is definitely a smart choice. It will save you a lot of time during the commute because you won’t have to wait in line just to buy single journey tickets.

The card can be used for a lot of other things too. You can also use them to ride the MRT, BGC Bus, P2P Buses, and a lot more.

There are LRT stations that are less crowded when compared to other stations. Take the time to research and find out which stations are less of a hassle to ride the LRT from. This piece of information is important, especially for stations that are close to each other.

Once you’re inside the train, you also have to look for the best spot. It should not be too far from the door so you wouldn’t have a hard time getting off at your destination. However, it shouldn’t be too close to the door because you might get pushed a lot. If possible, look for a spot where you have something to hold on to.

Always make sure to keep your valuables safe and secure. Thieves take advantage of crowded places since they can easily steal things without getting noticed.

The best way to avoid these incidents is to tightly hold your bag, make sure that the zippers face your body, and be alert all the time. There are hidden pouches that you can buy to secure important stuff like money, cash cards, IDs, and Beep card inside your clothing.

If you’ll be riding the LRT on a daily basis, memorizing all the stations can be a lifesaver. You wouldn’t miss getting off at your destination if you know when you were getting near your stop. Maps and signs are available but it’s not guaranteed that you’ll have the chance to take a look at them during the trip.

Has remote work changed how people travel in the U.S?

The prevalence of remote work since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly changed urban transportation patterns in the U.S., according to new study led by MIT researchers.

The research finds significant variation between the effects of remote work on vehicle miles driven and on mass-transit ridership across the U.S.

“A 1 percent decrease in onsite workers leads to a roughly 1 percent reduction in [automobile] vehicle miles driven, but a 2.3 percent reduction in mass transit ridership,” says Yunhan Zheng SM ’21, PhD ’24, an MIT postdoc who is co-author of a the study.

“This is one of the first studies that identifies the causal effect of remote work on vehicle miles traveled and transit ridership across the U.S.,” adds Jinhua Zhao, an MIT professor and another co-author of the paper.

By accounting for many of the nuances of the issue, across the lower 48 states and the District of Columbia as well as 217 metropolitan areas, the scholars believe they have arrived at a robust conclusion demonstrating the effects of working from home on larger mobility patterns.

The paper, “ Impacts of remote work on vehicle miles traveled and transit ridership in the USA ,” appears today in the journal Nature Cities . The authors are Zheng, a doctoral graduate of MIT’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a postdoc at the Singapore–MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART); Shenhao Wang PhD ’20, an assistant professor at the University of Florida; Lun Liu, an assistant professor at Peking University; Jim Aloisi, a lecturer in MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP); and Zhao, the Professor of Cities and Transportation, founder of the MIT Mobility Initiative, and director of MIT’s JTL Urban Mobility Lab and Transit Lab.

The researchers gathered data on the prevalence of remote work from multiple sources, including Google location data, travel data from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration and the National Transit Database, and the monthly U.S. Survey of Working Arrangements and Attitudes (run jointly by Stanford University, the University of Chicago, ITAM, and MIT).

The study reveals significant variation among U.S. states when it comes to how much the rise of remote work has affected mileage driven.

“The impact of a 1 percent change in remote work on the reduction of vehicle miles traveled in New York state is only about one-quarter of that in Texas,” Zheng observes. “There is real variation there.”

At the same time, remote work has had the biggest effect on mass-transit revenues in places with widely used systems, with New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia making up the top five hardest-hit metro areas.

The overall effect is surprisingly consistent over time, from early 2020 through late 2022.

“In terms of the temporal variation, we found that the effect is quite consistent across our whole study period,” Zheng says. “It’s not just significant in the early stage of the pandemic, when remote work was a necessity for many. The magnitude remains consistent into the later period, when many people have the flexibility to choose where they want to work. We think this may have long-term implications.”

Additionally, the study estimates the impact that still larger numbers of remote workers could have on the environment and mass transit.

“On a national basis, we estimate that a 10 percent decrease in the number of onsite workers compared to prepandemic levels will reduce the annual total vehicle-related CO2 emissions by 191.8 million metric tons,” Wang says.

The study also projects that across the 217 metropolitan areas in the study, a 10 percent decrease in the number of onsite workers, compared to prepandemic levels, would lead to an annual loss of 2.4 billion transit trips and $3.7 billion in fare revenue — equal to roughly 27 percent of the annual transit ridership and fare revenue in 2019.

“The substantial influence of remote work on transit ridership highlights the need for transit agencies to adapt their services accordingly, investing in services tailored to noncommuting trips and implementing more flexible schedules to better accommodate the new demand patterns,” Zhao says.

KLIA Ekspres

KLIA Ekspres ticket (Single and Return Trip) validity is one (1) month from the date of purchase.
The ticket is valid on KLIA Ekspres from KLIA T1/KLIA T2 to KL Sentral or vice versa only. However, one trip will still be deducted if you board KLIA Transit train and alight at any intermediate stations. The fare difference will not be refunded.
The card has a lifespan of ten (10) years. However, if there is no transaction for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months, your card will be deactivated by TNGSB.
You are required to present your MyKad at the Ticket Counter for verification purpose before your ticket is activated. ERL reserves the right to deny boarding to customers who are unable to present a valid MyKad. Refund request will not be entertained in this case.
No refund for unutilised KLIA Ekspres trip(s) and it cannot be converted to stored value.
The KLIA Ekspres ticket (encoded in the card) is subject to all applicable laws and regulations, and also to the terms and conditions specified in ERL’s Conditions of Carriage. A copy of ERL’s Conditions of Carriage is available at its ticket counters and on its website www.KLIAekspres.com.
Faulty Card – if you are not able to use the card at a KLIA Ekspres gate, please seek assistance at the KLIA Ekspres Ticket Counter. You are required to complete a feedback form. A replacement ticket may be issued immediately for the unutilised trip(s), subject to our Conditions of Carriage.
ERL reserves the right to add and/or amend any of the terms and conditions applicable to the usage of the card and/or use of tickets purchased thereunder (“Usage Terms”), at their sole discretion and without prior notice. Rapid KL Rail Services

The 2-day unlimited rides are applicable on LRT, MRT & Monorail lines operated by RapidKL only.
The 2-day period is based on calendar day (i.e. not on 48-hour basis), starting from the first usage on Rapid KL services.
The first usage must be made within one (1) month from the date of card purchase.
There is a cash value of RM5 in the KL TravelPass when you first purchase it. This is a refundable minimum balance required for use on Rapid KL rail services. IMPORTANT: Please ensure that there is a minimum balance of RM5 in the card at the point of entry on the LRT, MRT or Monorail services.
No refund for unutilised rides. The unutilised rides cannot be converted to stored value.

Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and LRT-2) will have to pay higher fares beginning August 2, 2023 , after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved the implementation of adjusted fares for both train lines .

Operators Light Rail Manila Corporation ( LRMC ) and Light Rail Transit Authority ( LRTA ) have released the updated fare matrices for the LRT-1 and the LRT-2, respectively. For both train lines, the new base fare is P15 for single-journey ticket users , and P13 for stored-value card users .

For single-journey ticket users, an end-to-end ride on the LRT-1 (Baclaran to Roosevelt) will now cost P35 , while for stored-value card users, it will cost P33 . Previously, fares were at P29 and P30, respectively.

Single-journey ticket users of the LRT-2 will also have to pay P35 for end-to-end travel (Recto to Antipolo), and stored-value card users will pay P33 . The previous respective fares were P30 and P28.

Both train lines use beep for their stored-value card systems.

Inquirer.net has also reported that management of the Metro Rail Transite Line 3 (MRT-3) will likewise be petitioning for a fare increase of P2.29 for the boarding fee and P0.21 for every kilometer of travel.

In the same report, Jorjette Aquino , assistant secretary for railways at the DOTr, said that the national government currently subsidizes P85 of the actual P115 end-to-end fare on the MRT-3. “With fare adjustment, kung itutuloy ang pag -file ng petition ng MRT-3 at ito ay naaprubahan , 70% pa rin ang isu -subsidize ng national government,” she added.

Single-trip Bonds: An Alternative for Non-Bonded Carriers

What is a non-bonded highway carrier to do when they have an opportunity to pick up a load that needs to travel in-bond through Canada? One alternative is to obtain a single-trip bond.

Bonds issued by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), whether single-trip or annual, allow highway carriers to move goods inland to a sufferance warehouse for release or "in-transit" through Canada for furtherance to a point outside of the country.

In order to become an annually bonded carrier with CBSA, carriers must have a carrier code, post financial security of up to $25,000 as well as fill out an application. However, to obtain a single-trip bond the process can be completed on an as-needed basis.

A single-trip bond can be acquired by the carrier directly through CBSA at the First Port of Arrival (FPOA) by filing security using cash or certified cheque or by engaging a customs broker who provides this service.

Goods moving on a single-trip bond are linked to the carrier code of the carrier moving the goods, a bond authorization number and Cargo Control Number (CCN) printed on a Cargo Control Document (CCD). This allows for reporting, tracing and acquittal of each shipment by CBSA.

CBSA expects the single-trip bond process to be limited and declining in use and as such this process remains paper-based.

The process for a single-trip bond movement of goods:

The highway carrier will transmit cargo and conveyance data as a frontier release prior to arriving at the FPOA.
At the Primary Inspection Line (PIL), the driver will declare that a single-trip authorization is required to move the goods inland. The carrier will then provide a lead sheet to the Border Services Officer (BSO) with the a bar coded CRN or a bar coded CCN and handwritten CRN.
The BSO will refer the driver inside for primary processing to apply for a single-trip bond.
The carrier will present a completed paper re-manifest (A8A) to the BSO. The officer will stamp the A8A allowing the carrier to move the goods inland. The clearance is then processed as an in-bond movement.
The A8A copies will be split as they were pre-emanifest carriers will not be penalized for handwriting the CCN onto the A8A being used to re-manifest, single-trip in-bond movement.
Goods must go to the destination that CBSA has allowed the carrier to carry the goods to as per the bond. The single-trip bond naturally ends at the destination of the goods.
The carrier is required to retain all records relating to this single-trip bond for three (3) years plus the current year.

New York City and Empire State officials are cautioning about the challenges of traveling Monday afternoon during the solar eclipse .

The greater New York City area will see a partial solar eclipse (not a total one), but will have nearly 90% of coverage of the sun. The strongest effects will start around 3 p.m. and last an hour.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management warned "New Yorkers are advised to take caution while traveling due to the sudden lack of light."

Gov. Kathy Hochul said a large number of visitors are expected to New York state and traffic could be more congested than normal.

“New York is prepared to welcome visitors from around the world to view the total solar eclipse on April 8, and I urge all travelers to be prepared for a high volume of traffic,” Hochul said.

The state Department of Transportation said extra HELP and tow trucks will be on the roads, but New Yorkers should take precautions before heading out to view the eclipse.

"I urge all New Yorkers to enjoy this natural wonder - but do so, safely," Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said in a statement. " Leave early, be prepared for traffic delays - bring extra food, water and blankets and don’t forget your eclipse viewing glasses. Please remember to not park on the shoulders of the road, and most importantly, pack your patience."

Single Trip Tickets in Singapore – No Longer Available

As their name suggests, single-trip MRT tickets were purchasable directly from a ticketing machine within one of the stations. These are often called ‘standard tickets’ within stations. These are no longer available post-Covid. There were some pros and cons associated with these single-trip tickets, but now you can purchase cards that are valid for buses and trains.

1. Buying Stored Value Cards for MRT in Singapore

Stored value cards are the most popular option for Singaporeans and permanent residents using the MRT in the city. They are often called ‘Adult Stored Value Cards’ . These are contactless stored value smartcards which can be used on buses, the MRT and LRT throughout Singapore. Therefore, their use is not restricted to only the train system in Singapore. They can be used on buses as well which is a major bonus.

There are some clear pros and cons of using Stored Value Cards while you are in Singapore.

There are many clear benefits of using a stored-value card in Singapore. Once you have topped them up with cash, they naturally save a lot of time at each station. Unlike the single trip tickets, stored-value cards only have to be topped each time that you want to enter the MRT Network in Singapore. This eliminates the need for you to wait in line at a ticketing machine every time you want to use the MRT.

The cost per trip is also cheaper than using single journey tickets. Therefore, this is the ideal card if you are staying in Singapore for a long period of time. If your stored-value card is damaged or not working properly you can easily go to a TransitLink Ticket Office to get a replacement.

If for some reason you do not want to use your stored value card anymore you can return it for a refund as well. Again, in this case, you have to go to a TransitLink ticketing office to get your money back. Keep in mind that the $5 card cost paid during the purchase of the card is non-refundable.

There are actually very few ‘cons’ about using a stored-value card in Singapore. The major one that you have to really think about is how long you are staying in Singapore? If you are only staying in the city for a few days then a Singapore tourist pass is by far your best option if you want to use the MRT extensively. While planning, you might realize that you are only going to use the MRT once or twice during your entire trip. In this case, you are best to use single journey tickets instead of getting any type of card.

Stored value cards do require an upfront payment. Consequently, if you do not use the card extensively you will lose $5 in cash because of the down payment that you had to make when you originally purchased the card.

How much do stored value cards cost in Singapore?

The time of writing adult stored value cards cost $12. This total value of $12 dollars includes a $5 non-refundable card cost and a $7 travel value balance. The $7 dollar balance can be used for rides on LRT, MRT and trains throughout Singapore.

According to the information above, you can see why you don’t want to purchase a stored value card unless you plan on using Singapore MRT for an extended period of time. You will waste the $5 non-refundable payment and maybe some of the $7 cash balance if you only use it once or twice.

Once your card is purchased, the minimum amount that you can top-up is $10 and the maximum is $500. Aside from TransitLink Ticket Offices, you can also use General Ticketing Machines (GTMs). These are located in MRT stations and bus interchanges to top-up your smartcards by cash or NETS. Add Value Machines (AVM + ) can also be used for top-up purposes.

2. Buying Singapore Tourist Passes for the MRT in Singapore

The third option for buying MRT tickets in Singapore is getting a Singapore Tourist Pass. As the name suggests, Singapore Tourist Passes are designed for temporary visitors to the city. They are not designed for permanent residents or Singaporeans that spend considerable amounts of time in Singapore. There are clear pros and cons to purchasing a Singapore tourist pass that we will outline below.

One of the clear benefits of purchasing a Singapore Tourist Pass is that you know exactly how much it is going to cost you per day for your transportation. This is especially important if you are trying to create a budget for your trip. As most people know, Singapore is not considered to be a very cheap place to travel. Therefore, a lot of budget travellers and backpackers are always looking for ways that they can save more money while they are in Singapore .

If you are an active traveller and plan on using public transportation extensively while you are in the city, the Singapore Tourist Pass is the best MRT option for you. Singapore has an extensive selection of things to do and see. So you might want to maximize the number of trips you can take with the card. If you plan on staying in Singapore for three days or less and want to sightsee a lot, this is the best option for you!

Singapore tourist passes are ideal for active visitors to the city. However, they are not the best option if you are staying in Singapore for an extended period. Similarly, they are not the best option if you are not seeing a lot of different sights. If you pay upfront for a Tourist Pass and then do not actively use the card you are just going to throw your money away. Therefore, you need to really think about your itinerary and how much public transportation you are going to require while you are in the city.

Where can you buy Singapore Tourist Passes?

Similar to stored-value cards, you can buy Singapore Tourist Passes at selected TransitLink Ticket Offices or Automated STP Kiosks. You can refer to the official TransitLink website that summarizes all of the relevant offices and what their daily hours are. Keep in mind that there is an office in Changi Airport, so it is possible to purchase a card after you land, but before you travel from Changi into the city center!

Currently, there are four different types of Singapore tourist passes that are available to visitors in the city. Some of the cards are valid for one day where the others are valid up to 3 days. You also have some choice in terms of what type of card you want to get and the perks and discounts associated with each one.

Jack Smith argues "not a single" Trump official has claimed he declared any records personal

Washington — Special counsel Jack Smith urged a federal judge to keep a presidential recordkeeping law out of instructions that would be provided to the jury in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump , according to court documents filed by Smith's team late Tuesday. Prosecutors warned that including the law in the instructions risked jeopardizing the proceedings, and signaled they would appeal the judge's decision if she ruled against them.

Last month, U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon , who is overseeing the case in Florida, asked Smith's and Trump's legal teams to file jury instructions based on two hypothetical scenarios: in one, the president has the authority under the Presidential Records Act (PRA) to categorize any records as personal. Under this scenario, Cannon wrote that "neither a court nor a jury" would have the ability to review the decision, a finding that could nullify much of the special counsel's case against Trump.

In the other, the jury would be able to examine a record that had been retained by a former president and make a finding that it was either "personal or presidential," under the PRA. Under this scenario, it is possible jurors could find that some official documents were mishandled.

Federal prosecutors rejected both proposals and wrote Tuesday that the PRA — a 1978 law that manages the maintenance of White House documents produced during each presidency — "should not play any role at trial at all," arguing that Trump's alleged mishandling of classified records occurred after his presidency ended.

Trump and Smith filed separate proposals for jury instructions in the case Tuesday, although a trial date has yet to be set.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that both of Cannon's hypothetical scenarios "rest on an unstated and fundamentally flawed legal premise." Any jury instructions that include the PRA risked "distort[ing] the trial," they said.

Instead, the special counsel suggested jurors should only have to determine three elements of the case that amount to whether Trump willfully retained national defense information without the authorization of the federal government.

Smith's team requested that if the judge opts to include language concerning the PRA, she affords them ample time to appeal the matter to higher courts ahead of trial.

The former president's legal team took the opposite view, writing Cannon "correctly stated the law" when she suggested the jury instruction that would have granted Trump much broader power under the PRA.

"If this case is presented to a jury—which it should not be—the jury would be forced to resolve factual issues relating to not only PRA categorizations but also documents' alleged classification status," Trump's defense team argued in their filing .

In their own proposed jury instructions , Trump's legal team suggested Cannon tell jurors that Trump was authorized to access the classified records during his presidency and that certain precedents allow for former presidents to access certain documents.

The special counsel charged Trump in a 40-count indictment that includes 32 alleged violations of a national security law that makes it illegal to mishandle national defense information. The former president is also accused of engaging in an obstruction scheme as part of an alleged effort to thwart federal investigators as they probed his retention of documents with classified markings. The FBI ultimately recovered over 300 sensitive government records from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence that prosecutors accused him of illegally keeping.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all counts and has denied any wrongdoing.

Tuesday's late-night filing from the special counsel contended that the question of presidential versus private records under the PRA is not a question for a jury because it doesn't apply to Trump's alleged conduct. Instead, prosecutors said this was a matter of law that should be left up to the judge.

Trump's legal team has filed a number of motions to dismiss the case against him, including one on the grounds that the PRA granted Trump "unreviewable discretion" over classified records.

"President Trump was still the President of the United States when, for example, many of the documents at issue were packed (presumably by the GSA), transported, and delivered to Mar-A-Lago," they wrote in a February court filing.

Attorneys for the former president also argued that the PRA "precludes judicial review" over a president's recordkeeping, contending that the court has no jurisdiction in the matter, language that was reflected in Cannon's order asking for input on the proposed jury instructions.

Smith's team, however, pushed back in responding court filings, writing that the more than 300 documents with classified markings recovered from Trump "are indisputably presidential, not personal."

"Trump was not authorized to possess classified records at all," prosecutors said.

The federal probe into Trump's handling of classified records followed a months-long effort by federal officials to collect what they said were missing documents. Investigators ultimately executed a search warrant at his Florida residence and club, Mar-a-Lago, in August of 2022, after the former president allegedly failed to fully respond to a grand jury subpoena.

In Tuesday's filing, Smith's team again pushed back, alleging that Trump's use of the PRA — namely the claim that he had the power to declare certain government documents as personal in nature — was "invented" as a "fictional" defense for his alleged conduct only after the federal probe was underway. The special counsel said neither communications with his defense team throughout the investigation nor witness testimony backs up Trump's claims.

Prosecutors revealed that during its grand jury investigation, the special counsel's office interviewed individuals close to the former president, including his chiefs of staff and top White House lawyers.

"Not a single one had heard Trump say that he was designating records as personal or that, at the time he caused the transfer of boxes to Mar-a-Lago, he believed that his removal of records amounted to designating them as personal under the PRA," according to the special counsel. "To the contrary, every witness who was asked this question had never heard such a thing."

In response to Cannon's order, however, Trump's lawyers reiterated their contention that the former president was shielded from prosecution under the PRA.

"There is no basis for the Special Counsel's Office, this Court, or a jury to second-guess President Trump's document-specific PRA categorizations."

Cannon has yet to rule on any of Trump's motions to dismiss the indictment, and the former president's legal team urged her again on Tuesday to rule in his favor. Two of the former president's aides, Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira, also face charges in the case and filed their own motions, which also remain unresolved. Nauta and de Oliveira pleaded not guilty to allegations that they worked with the former president to obstruct the federal probe.

The judge has yet to set a trial date in the case — originally scheduled for late May — and has not issued any order related to a request from Smith that she reconsider a ruling tied to protected witness names. She held a hearing on those two issues on March 1.

Trump originally argued that a trial should not go forward before the fall election, but conceded that August would be feasible, should the judge decide to proceed. The special counsel pushed for the trial to begin in July, a proposal that seems less likely to be adopted, since Cannon's docket still contains several unresolved motions.

Creating a Prestocard.ca account

As soon as you receive your card, you should register it at prestocard.ca or complete a paper Presto registration form and mail it to the Presto Customer Service Centre. Registration lets you:

Transfer funds to a new card if your card is lost or stolen
Access your Transit Usage Report for tax credit purposes

Load money into your Presto e-Purse

If you load your card online or by phone , you need to load at least $10.00 at a time. Your e-Purse cannot contain more than $1,000. Card readers on the bus are updated at least three times a day. Be sure to leave enough time for your online purchase to get activated on the buses. Once loaded, you need to tap onto a card reader within 30 days to complete the transaction.

Auto-loading and auto-renewing

Make sure your e-Purse never runs out of money by setting up Autoload:

Register your card.
Choose the balance at which you want to reload
Choose the amount that will be loaded at each reload
Activate your Autoload contract by tapping onto a reader within 30 days.

Make sure you always have a pass loaded to your account by setting up Autorenew. Your payments will go through six days before the start of the month. Simply cancel Autorenew before the 20th day of the month to stop the following month’s pass from loading. At the start of the month, you need to tap your card as part of a regular trip to activate the load onto your PRESTO card. Until you have done so, your monthly pass is not valid and does not count as paid fare.

Set up your card for an aged-base or special access discount

You can purchase a Presto card set with a Youth or Senior discount at an OC Transpo Customer Service Centre or at a participating Shoppers Drug Mart store . Anyone can buy a Presto card with an age-based discount . You can buy it for yourself or on behalf of an eligible person. You must meet eligibility criteria to use the card with a discounted fare. You also need to prove eligibility if requested.

Before you can take advantage of a Community, EquiPass or Access fare discount for which you qualify, you need to bring your card and proof of eligibility to an OC Transpo Customer Service Centre. Once you have bought and setup your card, you’re ready to load it.

Replace a lost or stolen card

If your card is registered, you can transfer your balance to a new card if it gets lost or stolen:

Report your card lost or stolen (can take up to 24 hours to be blocked on the readers – you are responsible for charges during this period).
NEW: Transfer your card balance to another card in your account, a new card you bought online, or a new card you bought in-person.
You can only transfer your card balance from a cancelled Presto card to another Adult card in your account or a card with the same fare type as the cancelled card, and the card you’re transferring to can’t have a transit pass on it.
Some information on the new card will be overwritten to reflect the information on the old card.

Presto on Google Wallet (not available)

Presto on Google Wallet is not accepted as payment on OC Transpo buses, fare gates or Para Transpo. OC Transpo customers should not add their Presto card to Google Wallet on mobile devices.
If you have accidentally transferred your Presto card to your Google Wallet, don’t worry! Contact Presto Customer Service to set up your account on a new, plastic card.

DayPasses are available for purchase at a ticket machine, or from your bus driver (one-day DayPasses only). Validation period begins from the moment of purchase. Get more information on DayPasses .

Monthly passes (includes Presto and ParaPay*)

Monthly passes go on sale 14 days before the start of the month. A monthly pass is only valid during the calendar month for which it is purchased. Discounted monthly passes must be set at a Customer Service Centre or by calling OC Transpo Customer Service. Age-based monthly passes can be set at a participating Shoppers Drug Mart.

* ParaPay cannot be used for trips on OC Transpo buses or the O-Train. Read more information on ParaPay .

† Access pass holders are required to pay a $2.55 top-up charge per ride to use Para Transpo services.

How to get ParaPay

To open your account, call Customer Service and give your Para Transpo ID number.

If you want be able to load your account online , you also need to:

Provide your email address
You will then receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account and load money or a pass

Load a monthly pass ( ParaPass ) or money to pay-per-trip ( ParaPurse ) online, in-person, by phone or by mail.

Book your trips and ride — Your fare is automatically paid when you book, and if you cancel, your account will be reimbursed.

Loading your ParaPay account

You can load your ParaPay account with money to pay-per-ride (ParaPurse), a monthly pass (ParaPass) or both.

ParaPurse lets you deposit money to your account and pay for your Para Transpo trips as you go. A minimum $10.00-load is required when adding funds to ParaPurse.
