The 2021 Symetra Tour schedule has been released and players will compete for a record purse average of $190,000. A total of 20 events will be contested for $3.8 million in total prize money.

“We are proud to unveil a schedule that includes six new title sponsors, six new venues and three existing tournaments that have increased their purse,” said Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of LPGA Qualifying Tours. “Each year, our two stated goals for the schedule are to improve the quality of the venues for both new and existing tournaments, and to increase the amount of money for which our athletes are competing for each week.”

For perspective, consider that in 2013, the 15-event schedule featured an average purse of $108,000 and one tournament at $150,000. In 2021, half of the events on the schedule will be $200,000 or more.

The season kicks off in Arizona with two new desert partners coming on board – Carlisle Companies Inc. and Casino Del Sol Resort. The first event, the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic, is set for March 18-21 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa.

The Symetra Tour’s usual spring Florida stop in Winter Haven, the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic, is noticeably absent. Jean Reynolds won the first edition in 2009.

This 2021 developmental tour consists of more than 300 members from 40 countries. In 2020, seven different countries were represented among the 10 champions during the 2020 season (Chinese Taipei, Finland, People’s Republic of China, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United States).

symetra tour

The LPGA-owned Symetra Tour has never been stronger, and its 2021 schedule reflects the massive growth the developmental circuit has experienced in the last half-dozen years.

The 2021 Symetra Tour schedule has 20 events, consistent with the schedule announced for 2021 before the pandemic struck. The schedule features 10 events on the schedule feature a purse of at least $200,000, marking a four-tournament increase from last year's planned schedule.

There are two new events on the schedule, including events the Circling Raven Championship from Aug. 28-30 in Worley, Idaho, at Circling Raven Golf Club, and the Copper Rock Championship at Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah from Sept. 3-5. Both new tournaments feature $200,000 purses.

Six tournaments are leaving the schedule:

  • Florida's Natural Charity Classic -- Country Club of Winter Haven, Winter Haven, Fla. -- $125,000
  • Brown Deer Park Golf Course, Milwaukee, Wis. -- $125,000
  • Windsor Golf Classic -- Windsor Golf Club, Windsor, Calif. -- $150,000

  • Zimmer Biomet Championship -- Lake Course at Grand National, Auburn, Ala. -- $300,000
  • The CDPHP Open -- Capital Hills at Albany, Albany, N.Y. -- $150,000

However, seven existing tournaments on the schedule have purse increases for 2021.

The top 10 players on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card money list earn 2022 LPGA Tour status. Nos. 11-35 on the list get into LPGA Q-Series without needing to advance through any stages of Q-School.

There’s a three-way tie for the lead after the first round of the season-ending Symetra Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., but this is a week that runs much deeper than who’s atop the leaderboard.

Come Sunday’s finish, there will be 10 players celebrating victories.

That’s how many LPGA tour cards will be won off the top of the season-long Volvik Race for the Card money list.

Daniela Iacobelli opened with a 7-under-par 65 to grab a share of the lead at LPGA International’s Jones Course. She knows what magic can happen with a strong finish. Iacobelli jumped from 22 nd on the tour’s money list to fifth when she won the Tour Championship in 2012. She starts this week 16 th on the money list.

Finishing up with a birdie Thursday, Iacobelli relished good memories.

“I felt nerves over the putt on No. 18, because you’re staring out at the LPGA sign, and I could remember the exact putt I had when I won in 2012,” Iacobelli said. “It was a little reminiscent, but still a fresh start.”

Iacobelli is tied for the lead with Kendra Dalton and Laura Wearn.

The battle for the 10 tour cards opened a bit with news that Mind Muangkhumsakul wouldn’t be teeing it up this week. She holds down the 10 th spot on the money list but missed her tee time for Wednesday’s pro-am and was withdrawn from the event, per tour rules. Muangkhumsakul has a $10,176 lead on Min Seo Kwak on the money list, and Kwak made a strong start Thursday. Kwak opened with a 66 and is tied for fourth.
