Tenacious D Announce Summer 2023 U.S. Tour

Tenacious D have been more active on the road of late — the comedy rock duo of actor  Jack Black and his foil, Kyle Gass , have now added a group of U.S. shows to their summer 2023 "Spicy Meatball Tour."

The dates come on the heels of the recently re-recorded version of Tenacious D's fan-favorite live cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." The  hilarious music video  features the D in a romp by the sea.

Tenacious D announce 2023 European tour including London date

Tenacious D will close out their 2023 European summer tour with a headline date at The O2 in London.

After a year of being busy voicing Bowser for the new Super Mario Bros. film and just generally being wholesome , Jack Black will be returning to the UK and Europe next year alongside Kyle Gass for a Tenacious D tour.

The pair will cross the pond in summer 2023 to headline massive venues in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, before wrapping up with a huge date at London’s The O2 on June 16. Of course, that final show is The D’s first UK show since their 2019 tour, which included a two-night stint at Wembley.

Concert Review: Tenacious D – The Spicy Meatball Tour

I first heard of Tenacious D 20-years ago when a friend of mine told me he was going to see the band along with Weezer.  The next day he raved about the “D,” and urged me to buy their CD.  I did.  And I loved it.  20 years later, I finally got to see what I was missing.

Consisting of the always manic Jack Black and the more reserved Kyle Gass, Tenacious D is best described as if Heavy Metal and Classical Music had a baby.  Both men are amazing musicians, each note from their guitars hitting your ears clearly.  Where Black’s input is mostly power chords, Gass plays as intricately, and as beautifully, as one of my favorite classical gitarists, the late Roy Clark.

For nearly two hours the boys rocked, combining beautifully written music with amazingly strong, often funny, lyrics.  Like “Weird” Al Yankovic, Jack Black has an amazingly strong voice, suited for the music he plays and reminiscient of the late, great Ronnie James Dio.  

The show also had it’s fun bits, including a recurring bit with the band’s pyro technician who always seemed to set of the effects at the wrong time.  Another highligh was the premiere of a new song, scheduled to be released the next day, called “Video Games.”  Later, Black produced a Sax-a-Boom, an oversized member of the horn family,  Not to be outdone, Gass emerged from the shadows with an enormous MAX-a-Boom and blew a great rendition of the Gerry Rafferty hit “Baker Street.”  The group also covered Chris Issak’s “Wicked Games” and did a kick-ass version of Led Zepplin’s “Good Times, Bad Times.”

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention the D’s opening act, Steel Beans, a literal one-man-band who played guitar, drums and keyboards at the same time.  And very well.

Tenacious D reveal support acts for ‘Spicy Meatball’ 2024 UK and European tour

Jack Black and Kyle Gass will be hitting the road next spring

Tenacious D have announced the acts who will be joining them as support for their upcoming UK and European tour.

Comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the duo shared news of an upcoming 2024 tour across the UK and Europe at the start of the month – dubbed the ‘Spicy Meatball Tour’.

Now, the band have announced the two special guests who will be joining them for the upcoming dates next spring – namely Crusade and Dave Hill.

“Please welcome our friends, Mr Dave Hill and Crusade, on the Spicy Meatball tour as we roll through Europe and the UK this spring!” the rock duo said in a new update .

Crusade – a progressive metal band from Tennessee – will be joining Black and Gass during their run of European shows, which will start at the end of April. Comedian and musician Dave Hill will open for the band for their run of UK shows the following month.

The 2024 tour launches with a stop in Stockholm on April 29, before continuing with dates in Oslo (30), Copenhagen (May 1) and Luxembourg (3).

From there, the duo will play a show in Dublin on May 5, before making stops at six UK cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham and Brighton.

The ‘Spicy Meatball Tour’ will wrap up with a slot at the Accor Arena in Paris on May 15. Tickets are available now and you can find any remaining ones here .

Back in May, Tenacious D released their first new song in five years, ‘Video Games’ . The duo followed it up the following month with a studio version of their viral ‘Wicked Game’ cover .

Tenacious D played a show at The O2 in London this summer as part of their ongoing ‘Spicy Meatball Tour’, and have since performed gigs in North America.
