Her vil de streame alle storturneringer, som The Masters, The Open og Ryder Cup.

The Masters

Like bak ham følger Tiger Wood som vant turneringen ved fem anledninger, senest i 2019.

The PGA Championship

The US Open

The Open Championship

The Players Championship

Solheim Cup

Viktor Hovland wins PGA Tour's season-ending FedEx Cup title at East Lake

  • Published 28 August 2023

Viktor Hovland and his caddie embrace after his victory in the Tour Championship

Viktor Hovland kept his emotions in check throughout the final round, only allowing himself to smile after holing the final putt

Norway's Viktor Hovland hit a superb bogey-free seven-under-par 63 to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title at East Lake in Atlanta.

Hovland led by six going into Sunday's final round but was pressed by Xander Schauffele, who shot a 62 and closed to within three strokes with six to play.

However, Hovland birdied the final three holes to win by five strokes on 27 under and collect $18m (£14.1m).

"It's pretty surreal to be standing here right now," he said.

"The gameplan before starting was middle of the green, make a lot of pars and make Xander get after it, which he did early so I had to change my gameplan a little bit."

Hovland and Schauffele had equally fast starts, both picking up four birdies in their opening six holes after a near two-hour delay because of lightning and heavy rain.

The American holed further birdie putts on the eighth, 11th and 12th holes to reduce the deficit to three as Hovland missed chances of his own but also made some crucial par putts.

It looked like the world number five's advantage may be further reduced on the 14th after he hit a poor chip but he sensationally holed a 23-foot putt to save par.

"That was just huge for momentum because two shots with four holes to go is a lot different from three shots," Hovland said.

"And after that I really relaxed."

His fifth birdie of the day came on the 16th, to end a run of nine pars, and he added two more on the 17th and 18th to seal his sixth PGA Tour victory and the biggest win of his career in the season-ending tournament.

Schauffele also had a bogey-free round as he finished on 22 under to claim the $6.5m (£5.2m) runner-up prize from the $75m (£59.5m) bonus pot. US Open champion Wyndham Clark finished third on 16 under.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, who started the week two shots ahead of Hovland on 10 under par as leader of the FedEx Cup standings, had a disappointing week and closed with a level-par 70 to finish on 11 under.

McIlroy's back 'close to 100%'

Three-time champion Rory McIlroy, who had been battling a back injury all week, closed with a five-under 65 to finish fourth on 14 under.

"As the week went on it got looser and [on Sunday] it was pretty close to 100%," the Northern Irishman said on Sky Sports.

"I wish I had felt like this the rest of the week but even without a bad back I'm not sure I'd have been able to hang with the two guys in front."

The world number two picked up the injury at the start of week while exercising, leading to initial concern about his fitness for next month's Ryder Cup.

However, McIlroy seemed unconcerned, adding: "My game is where it needs to be and as long as I stay healthy for the next few weeks I'm excited to get back to Europe, play in Ireland and at Wentworth [in September's BMW PGA Championship] and ultimately get my game in shape for the Ryder Cup.

"It will be nice to all get together, get some early team dinners before the week in Rome and feel like that team chemistry is starting already.

"There's still a few weeks to go, but it's the next big thing in all of our calendars."

The US team will be finalised on Tuesday when captain Zach Johnson selects his six wildcard picks to add to the six players who have already qualified.

Europe's qualification process finishes after this week's European Masters in Switzerland, with Luke Donald naming his six captain's picks on Monday, 4 September.

The Ryder Cup takes place at the Marco Simone Golf Club, near Rome, from 29 September to 1 October.

ATLANTA -- When Oklahoma State golf coach Alan Bratton was recruiting Viktor Hovland in 2015, he remembers Hovland telling him that he couldn't wait to get to the United States and hit balls off grass.

"I remember thinking that was a phrase I'd never burped out of my mouth," Bratton said. "I couldn't relate to it."

Bratton didn't grow up trying to play an outdoor sport in Oslo, Norway.

The Scandinavian country known more for downhill skiing and snowboarding is now home to the hottest golfer on the planet after Hovland won the Tour Championship by 5 strokes over Xander Schauffele at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday. Hovland carded a 7-under 63 in the final round.

Hovland started the staggered-scoring event at 8 under and shot 19 under on his own to finish 27 under. He was 11 shots better than U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark , who finished third, and 13 better than Rory McIlroy , who was fourth.

It was Hovland's second straight victory after he captured the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields, Illinois, last week. His latest victory came with the FedEx Cup and an $18 million bonus. Hovland, 24, earned $21.6 million over the past two weeks.

"It's been a great year," Hovland said. "I feel like I've taken a lot of steps this season, contending in more major championships. I finally won in the U.S. I won a big tournament, Jack [Nicklaus '] event. And honestly, after that, I felt like I've gotten so much better, and it was very pleasing to see. Obviously, the last couple weeks have just superseded that. It's been pretty surreal.

"Obviously, you dream about it, but these things happen when you don't really expect them."

Hovland joins the likes of past FedEx Cup champions McIlroy, Tiger Woods , Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson .

Hovland's path to East Lake Golf Club was one of the most unlikely. He didn't start playing golf until he was 11. His father, Harald, worked as an engineer for one year in St. Louis and brought his son home a set of clubs.

Hovland practiced at an indoor golf facility and played outdoors when there wasn't snow on the ground. There are about six to eight hours of daylight during the winter months, and Hovland passed time by watching instructional swing lessons on YouTube. The good news: There are about 18 to 19 hours of daylight during the height of the summer. Hovland didn't leave the golf course until after 10 p.m. on most summer days.

"I would take every single day very seriously because every day I had home in the summer I couldn't just waste away the day, because in a couple months, it's winter, and I can't play outside," Hovland said. "So every single day I tried to get its most out of, and I think that really helped me."

Bratton got his first look at Hovland while he was watching future Oklahoma State player Kristoffer Ventura competing in the European Boys' Team Championships in Scotland in 2013. Hovland was two years younger and wasn't one of Norway's best players.

Bratton saw enough talent in Hovland to offer him a scholarship in 2015, and Hovland signed with the Cowboys shortly after visiting campus. In 2018, Hovland helped the Cowboys win a team national championship. That summer, he won the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Hovland was the low amateur in the 2019 Masters then the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in his final tournament as an amateur. His 4-under total of 280 over 72 holes broke Nicklaus' U.S. Open scoring total for an amateur set at Cherry Hills in 1960.

Less than a year later, after earning his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour, Hovland picked up his first victory at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open, making a 30-foot birdie on the final hole to win. He became the first player from Norway to win on the PGA Tour. Less than 10 months later, he made a 12-foot birdie to defeat Aaron Wise in the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Hovland's victory at Puerto Rico taught him something else about his game: He needed to develop a better short game.

"I suck at chipping," Hovland said at the time. "That's something I know I'm going to have to improve if I want to play my best at this level."

Since bursting on tour, Hovland has been regarded as one of the best ball strikers in the world.

"He's just so straight. He's just so accurate," England's Matt Fitzpatrick said. "Tee to green is phenomenal. Every time he hits a shot -- it just stupid as sounds -- the ball's always going forward. There's not really much shape on it. It's just always going forward, and I think that's impressive."

But what wasn't impressive until recently was Hovland's short game. During the 2020-21 season, he ranked in the top 10 on tour in strokes gained: tee to green, off the tee and total. He was 124th in strokes: gained around the green. Hovland was 191st in that statistic last season.

"His short game [trouble] was overblown," Bratton said. "When he was younger and during his time here, his short game wasn't awful. It wasn't his strength. It got exposed a little bit out there on the PGA Tour. He was never very good from the rough. Going against the best players in the world, you can't afford to have a weakness. When that's all anyone wants to talk about, then it can become something bigger than it needs to be."

To Hovland's credit, he devoted more time to chipping. He has been working with short-game specialist Joe Mayo. Hovland has been using the AimPoint putting technique to help him read greens better since 2020; developed by Mark Sweeney, it uses physics to help players read the slope of greens.

"He's been awesome," Hovland said of Mayo. "I like just picking people's brains, and he's an interesting brain to pick. He might be one of the only golf instructors that never watches golf. So when he came on board, he had no idea how I played, what I was doing, what it looked like. So he kind of had a fresh set of eyes. Yeah, he's just brought a lot of math and physics to my golf game, and we've just applied that, put a lot of hours in -- and funny enough, it works."

Hovland won twice more this season, at the Memorial in June when he beat Denny McCarthy in a playoff in a designated event then last week's playoff event. He also has won twice on the DP World Tour. Since 2020, only Jon Rahm has won more times combined on both tours with 10 victories.

At East Lake Golf Club, everything came together for Hovland. He led the field in strokes gained: off the tee (4.814), was fifth in approach (4.730), 11th around the green (1.103) and fourth in putting (3.387).

When did Hovland realize winning a Tour Championship might be possible?

"When I start to see the short game kind of come around and I believe I have all the shots," Hovland said. "I just saw the shots that I was able to pull off in tournaments and in highly stressful situations. I coupled that with the course management stuff and just the attitude, just handling bad bounces, handling bogeys, handling bad shots. Just those three aspects combined, when I started to see that, I wasn't stressed when I showed up to a golf tournament or a golf course. It was like, 'OK, whatever happens, happens. I might play bad, and that's OK.'

"Even today, it wasn't like, 'Man, I hope the double cross with the driver doesn't show up today. I hope I don't three-putt today. I hope I don't chunk the chips today.' You know, that might happen, but it's OK. I think just as soon as I made that mindset change, everything started to kind of come together."

The final round of the Tour Championship will be held Sunday afternoon at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

The action will begin at 1 p.m. EDT with CBS providing the coverage. You can also live stream it on fubo TV (FREE trial) and DirecTV Stream.

Viktor Hovland is one round away from the FedEx Cup title and its $18 million prize. He shot a 66 on Saturday to build a six-shot lead over Xander Schauffele during a third round that was interrupted by inclement weather. Hovland is coming off a 61 in the final round last week at Olympia Fields to win the BMW Championship. Schauffele had a 68. Collin Morikawa had a 73 to fall seven behind. Scottie Scheffler didn’t make birdie until the 18th hole for a 73. He was nine back.

  • SUNDAY COVERAGE: CBS, and live-streamed on fubo TV (FREE trial) and DirecTV Stream

For further details on the tournament, read The Associated Press’ Doug Ferguson’s account of the third round:

ATLANTA — Viktor Hovland can’t remember playing this well with every aspect of his game, and he can’t think of a better time for it to all come together.

One more round of that and he’ll have $18 million to show for it, along with his name on the FedEx Cup trophy.

Hovland delivered another sterling performance Saturday in the Tour Championship, a 4-under 66 that allowed him to pull away from an All-Star cast of contenders and build a six-shot lead going into the final round of the season at East Lake.

“The list of names that’s been on that trophy is pretty special,” Hovland said. “It feels more like a sprint. Obviously, it’s a marathon getting into this week. But it’s hard to win the FedEx Cup if you haven’t played well the last few weeks.”

Scottie Scheffler

No one has played better.

He broke the course record at Olympia Fields on Sunday with a 61 that allowed him to surge past Scottie Scheffler and win the BMW Championship. He has not let up at East Lake, even in the extreme heat.

The Norwegian star was tied with Collin Morikawa to start the sunbaked third round, with Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele all lined up behind him. No one could keep pace, especially after a 90-minute stoppage because of storms in the area.

Hovland, who started at 8-under par as the No. 2 seed, was at 20 under.

Schauffele, who has never finished worse than seventh or shot worse than par in his seven years playing the Tour Championship, had a 68 and was at 14 under. All he could think about was a pair of 4-foot putts he missed on the back nine — for par at No. 15, for birdie on the closing hole — knowing how much ground he had to make up.

“Not good enough,” Schauffele said about his round.

Morikawa didn’t make a birdie until the 16th hole in his round of 73, leaving him seven shots behind with Keegan Bradley, who had to birdie two of the last four holes for a 70.

Scheffler only started making putts — only one for birdie — late in his round of 73 that tied him with Rahm (71), leaving both nine shots behind and out of contention for the FedEx Cup title.

Hovland still has one round left, and last year was an example that no lead is safe. Scheffler started the final round with a six-shot lead over Rory McIlroy, only to shoot 73 as McIlroy rallied for a 66 to beat him by one.

“I know what I need to do,” Schauffele said. “I need to go out and try and put as much pressure on him tomorrow on that front nine as I can, and hope for the best.”

Hovland played bogey-free on the front nine as so many contenders were slowed by mistakes.

Bradley had three bogeys in a four-hole stretch. Scheffler three-putted from 12 feet, missing his par putt from 30 inches on the par-5 sixth. Rahm drove into the water on No. 8 for a double bogey and didn’t make his first birdie until the 12th hole.

Jon Rahm

And then clouds began to appear on another day of extreme heat, leading to the 90-minute delay. When players returned, Hovland made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 12th and a 20-footer on the next hole.

At one point he stretched his lead to seven shots, and it looked as though that’s how he would end the day until he missed a 7-foot birdie putt as darkness fell on East Lake.

“He’s just playing unbelievable golf,” Schauffele said. “He’s been working really hard. I saw him working hard through the playoffs there. I was out late and he was one of the guys I always saw until dark as well. So, no surprise.”

The FedEx Cup comes with an $18 million bonus ($17 million in cash) and a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour. It also might be enough to at least merit consideration for Hovland as PGA Tour player of the year, having also won the Memorial and a FedEx Cup playoff event.

“I don’t think I’ve ever played this well before, with this stretch, just putting all the short game and stuff together,” Hovland said. “I’ve certainly hit the ball this good before. I feel like I’ve hit the ball better than I have this week and even last week.”

Xander Schauffele

U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark had only one bogey in his round of 68 that left him in the group with Scheffler and Rahm.

McIlroy, who started six shots behind, had three bogeys on the front nine and didn’t make a birdie over his last seven holes for a 71. He was 11 shots back.

Tour Championship 2022: Tee times, prize money, TV coverage as Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler head field

Alex Livie

Published 24/08/2022 at 09:00 GMT

Patrick Cantlay arrives at the Tour Championship both as the defending champion and the form player in the field after securing back-to-back wins at the BMW Championship last week. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has been the most consistent player all season and his reward is a two-shot advantage over the rest of the field in what is a staggered start at East Lake.

TOUR Championship

ATLANTA — The PGA Tour season concludes at East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship this week, as the top 30 players look to take home the FedEx Cup.

Here is everything you need for the Tour Championship: a preview, full TV schedule, streaming schedule, and complete list of first-round tee times.

Tour Championship Information

Where: East Lake Golf Club (Par 70, 7,346 yards)

When: Aug. 24-27th

Purse: $75 million ($18 million to the winner)

Defending Champ: Rory McIlroy

Tour Championship Preview

The final event of the 2023 season is here as the PGA Tour looks to crown a FedEx Cup champion at the Tour Championship. Players will compete for a $75 million purse, where the winner will take home a whopping $18 million.

This week is different from the BMW Championship and FedEx St. Jude Championship. Players start with strokes depending on where they finished on the points standings. Scottie Scheffler will start at 10-under, Viktor Hovland at 8-under, Rory McIlroy at 7-under, Jon Rahm at 6-under and so on.

East Lake Golf Club is a doozy. Multiple par-4s stretch beyond 450 yards, and there are only two par-5s on the course. Keeping it in the fairways will be imperative. Water comes into play on some pivotal holes, so avoiding the penalty areas will be a crucial component to hoisting the FedEx Cup trophy.

McIlroy sits in a strong spot entering the week. Last year, he came from behind and waltzed past Scheffler to win his third FedEx Cup. With nine straight top-9s and his game in form, can the Northern Irishman close it out in Atlanta again?

Scheffler fell short last year, but did he learn his lesson?

Hovland is coming off a historic 61 at Olympia Fields to win the BMW Championship, and he looks dialed in this week. Can he go back-to-back?

Xander Schauffele plays East Lake better than anyone in the field. Only Tiger Woods plays this course better historically. Schauffele won in 2017 and has finished in the top seven in the past six seasons.

So many intriguing storylines are here in Atlanta as the top players in the world will battle it out at East Lake. Of course, they will need to beat the heat too.

The 2024 Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship gets under way on Monday with a dozen of this season’s best players featuring in a high-profile draw.

It represents the second-last ranking event on the 2023/24 calendar, with just the World Snooker Championship to follow later in April.

Staged at the Manchester Central for the first time, only the top 12 competitors from the one-year rankings list have qualified.

Tour Championship prize money Champion: £150,000 Runner-up: £60,000 Semi-Finals: £40,000 Quarter-Finals: £30,000 Round of 12: £20,000 Highest break: £10,000

Who has won the Tour Championship?

Since 2019, the Tour Championship has been the culminating event in a series of three in which the lineups are determined by the one-year rankings.

Ronnie O’Sullivan prevailed in its inaugural staging before Stephen Maguire emerged victoriously in a delayed behind-closed-doors edition in 2020.

Neil Robertson subsequently won back-to-back Tour Championship titles, with Shaun Murphy most recently winning in Hull 12 months ago.

Murphy, Robertson, and Maguire have all failed to qualify this season – making O’Sullivan the only former champion in the 2024 Tour Championship draw.

Who is in the 2024 Tour Championship draw?

For the first time in the event’s history, the field has been increased from eight players to 12.

The reason for this is likely what materialised in 2023, when a host of marquee names endured disappointing campaigns and failed to qualify.

As a result of the change, many feel that unnecessary damage has been inflicted on the tournament’s identity and prestige.

Nevertheless, the 2024 Tour Championship draw still boasts an incredibly strong lineup comprising players ranked inside the world’s top 16.

As this season’s highest earners from results in ranking tournaments, Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Zhang Anda, and Ding Junhui are the top four seeds.

Their reward is an automatic bye through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The remaining eight contenders will battle it out for the other four quarter-final spots.

One tie immediately stands out, with Mark Allen drawn to face John Higgins in a blockbuster first-round battle.

Elsewhere, there are all-English fixtures between Ali Carter and Barry Hawkins, and Mark Selby and Gary Wilson.

Mark Williams encounters Tom Ford, who like Zhang and Wilson will participate in the Tour Championship for the first time.

2024 Tour Championship Draw Round of 12 Mark Williams (8) 10-9 Tom Ford (9) Mark Allen (5) 10-7 John Higgins (12) Gary Wilson (6) 10-8 Mark Selby (11) Barry Hawkins (7) 8-10 Ali Carter (10)

Quarter-Finals Judd Trump (1) 4-10 Mark Williams (8) Ding Junhui (4) 8-10 Mark Allen (5) Zhang Anda (3) 8-10 Gary Wilson (6) Ronnie O’Sullivan (2) 10-2 Ali Carter (10)

Semi-Finals Mark Williams (8) 10-5 Mark Allen (5) Gary Wilson (6) 7-10 Ronnie O’Sullivan (2) Final (bo19) . Mark Williams (8) 10-5 Ronnie O’Sullivan (2)

What are the ranking subplots?

The race is well and truly back on at the top of the official rolling two-year snooker rankings list.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been the world number one since mid-2022, but that status will be under serious threat in the next few weeks.

Thanks to his victories in five ranking events this season, Judd Trump has narrowed the gap considerably.

In fact, Trump is so close to O’Sullivan now that he’ll usurp his fellow Englishman if he wins the event, or if he reaches the final and O’Sullivan doesn’t.

Mark Allen, meanwhile, remains in pole position to end the 2023/24 term as the world number one, with the Antrim potter at the top in the provisional end-of-season standings.

Results at the Tour Championship will also help determine the specific seeding positions for the top 16 at the Crucible Theatre this year.

Who is the betting favourite?

With ten titles between them this season, sharing five pieces of silverware apiece, it’s hardly surprising that Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump are the two betting favourites.

O’Sullivan is just about favoured with most online bookies at about 6/4, with Trump boasting odds of around 2/1.

The two rivals are on opposite sides of the draw, which could set up a tantalising final in what would be a repeat of the World Grand Prix title decider from January.

The only other multiple champions from the 2023/24 season are Mark Allen and Gary Wilson, who have outright odds of around 14/1 and 50/1 respectively.

I’d have kept it at eight players to preserve the one table setup throughout but feel any diminishing of its prestige is marginal at best. This is my favourite event of the ITV portfolio. Every match remains two sessions.

' src=

Would tend to agree. It’s definitely a pity that it has changed to 12, but there has been a bit of an overreaction to it really. I’m looking forward to seeing what the atmosphere will be like at the new venue.

Hopefully “best friends” Ronnie and Ali to meet in last 8

2024 Zurich Classic leaderboard, grades: Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry battle back to notch key win in playoff

Sunday's achievement marked the 25th victory of mcilroy's pga tour career and lowry's second in the united states.

Rory McIlroy has accomplished another first on the PGA Tour. Teaming up with Shane Lowry at the 2024 Zurich Classic, the two emerged victorious over Martin Trainer & Chad Ramey in a playoff at TPC Louisiana. McIlroy & Lowry made birdie on the final hole of regulation in the foursomes format to reach 25 under -- the number that Trainer & Ramey held as a clubhouse lead -- before making par on the first extra hole to grab the title.

The victory marks the 25th of McIlroy's PGA Tour career, pulling him past Dustin Johnson and Gary Player. He now stands alongside Tommy Armour, Johnny Miller and Macdonald Smith with that many wins. It also represents Lowry's third win on the PGA Tour and his first in the United States since the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

With the victory, Lowry gains access to the remaining big-money PGA Tour signature events this season: Wells Fargo Championship, the Memorial and Travelers Championship. He will also benefit next season as he'll be able to start his season at The Sentry.

"It feels absolutely amazing," McIlroy said. "We've had an awesome week here in New Orleans. ... It feels like it's just a bonus to win at the end, but [it] couldn't be better to have this man alongside me to get a PGA Tour win together."

McIlroy & Lowry started the day just off the pace of 54-hole leaders Patrick Fishburn & Zac Blair. The two struggled early in their final round as the competition transitioned to the foursomes format. Lowry put McIlroy in a couple spots of bother on holes Nos. 1 and 3, leading to early bogeys which sandwiched a birdie on the par-5 2nd.

This was nothing new for the Irish team as they became familiar with sluggish starts this week. The duo caught fire a few holes later around the turn rattling off four birdies in a five-hole stretch to catapult themselves back onto the first page of the leaderboard.

The birdies subsided on the difficult back nine, but one from the blade of McIlroy arrived on the par-4 16th. After hitting his tee shot in the fairway bunker with an iron in hand, McIlroy made amends connecting from just inside 20 feet after Lowry hit a pearl from the sand.

McIlroy's short-game prowess was unable to make up for the mistake off the tee on the 17th leading to an immediate bogey; that meant the two needed birdie on the last to force a playoff with Trainer & Ramey. The birdie came courtesy of a stellar spinner from the wedge of McIlroy, which left Lowry little worry over the putt to tie the clubhouse lead.

On the first playoff hole, McIlroy & Lowry were never out of position as they found the fairway and slid into the greenside bunker in two on the par-5 18th. Meanwhile, Ramey & Trainer struggled after their 3-hour layoff, hitting a number of poor shots. Despite this, Trainer still had a par putt from inside 10 feet to extend the playoff, though it never sniffed the hole and left him dejected.

"It's been an amazing week," McIlroy said. "I had never been here before. Shane has been here a handful of times, and we went out to some really nice dinners and people could not have been more hospitable or nicer to us during the week. I'd say we're going to come back and defend next year." Grade: A+

Here are the grades for the rest of the notables on the leaderboard at the 2024 Zurich Classic

10. Adam Hadwin & Nick Taylor (-21): The Canadian duo got off to a great start Sunday with birdies on both front-nine par 5s. Getting within two strokes of the lead, Taylor & Hadwin appeared primed to replicate last year's final-round heroics where they fired a 9-under 63. Unfortunately, once they creeped onto the first page of the leaderboard, they began to head in the wrong direction with a bogey on Nos. 9 and 12. Coming off a runner-up finish in 2023, Taylor & Hadwin once again put together a solid showing alongside each other and may make captain Mike Weir consider the partnership in Montreal later this year. Grade: B+

T23. Collin Morikawa  &  Kurt Kitayama (-18): These two were effective together but didn't possess enough firepower. Their first-round four ball consisted of just six birdies, and they added two more in Friday foursomes to make the cut on the number. They remained bogey-free up until the par-3 17th on Saturday, but by then, the peloton had passed them. Kitayama remains solid from tee to green while Morikawa continues to move in the right direction with his game. Grade: C+

T23. Patrick Cantlay  &  Xander Schauffele (-18): Given their history in both this event and national team competitions, Schauffele & Cantlay disappointed. They came into the week as the betting favorites and held a share of the lead through 35 holes thanks to a massive effort in Friday foursomes. Only then did the struggles begin as the two made bogey to polish off their second rounds, fell flat during Saturday's four ball format and were too far behind to make any noise Sunday. They are both approaching two years since their last wins. Grade: C-

MC. Sahith Theegala  &  Will Zalatoris (--): This new team was solid in the opening round with a 7-under 65 but back tracked in foursomes. It's not all that surprising given the fresh nature of the relationship and the time it often takes for players to get comfortable with one another in foursomes. Both players are in fine form so we shouldn't put too much stock into their early exit. They could conceivably be teammates again on Team USA for the 2024 Presidents Cup this upcoming fall. Grade: F

Playoff update

Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy are in the greenside bunker in two although McIlroy may have an awkward stance for what would otherwise be a pretty standard up-and-down. Meanwhile, Ramey blasts their second wayyyyy left. They might be pin high but about 50 yards away with little green to work with. Advantage McIlroy/Lowry.

Let's do this

Playoff format.

The two teams will play 18-9-18-9 (Foursomes-Fourball). Both of these teams made birdie on 18 in regulation in the final round in the foursomes format. If they tie, they will head to the par-3 9th and play four-ball (the format from Rounds 1 and 3).

McIlroy/Lowry tie clubhouse lead at 25 under

A birdie on the last will force a playoff between McIlroy/Lowry and Trainer/Ramey. Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn need eagle on the last to join the party.

Blair/Fishburn make a mess of 17

Well, that may do it for this team. They make their second double bogey on a par 3 and it will be the final nail in the coffin. They drop two off the lead and will need eagle on the last to join a playoff. Meanwhile, Shane Lowry has…oh, I don't know…2 feet for birdie on 18 to tie Martin Trainer and Chad Ramey at 25 under.

McIlroy/Lowry bogey

Not a great hole from Shane Lowry on 17. He bails out way right to avoid the water and puts McIlroy in a pickle. He did well to give Shane a par look from 15 feet, but he was unable to convert. The two head to 18 where they MUST birdie to tie the clubhouse lead.

Rory's putt on 16

Rory rolls one in.

The Irishmen are tied for the lead! Rory McIlroy rolls one in after Shane Lowry hit a great approach from the fairway bunker to reach 25 under. That may spell the end of Martin Trainer and Chad Ramey's chances in the clubhouse. Meanwhile, Zac Blair misses a 10-foot birdie bid on 15 which would have pushed them to 26 under. The three teams are tied at the top.

Good finish upcoming

The birdies are coming from the final few groups. Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry have gotten to 24 under. Lowry just missed an 8 footer to tie the lead (see below). Ryan Brehm has knocked in two birdies in a row to get to 24 under while Zac Blair faces a putt to get to 26 under a hole behind.

Here they come!

Blair/fishburn drop two.

That's what can happen in alternate shot. Zac Blair finds the water on No. 9 and then misses a 6-foot putt for bogey. They are now 24 under and one behind the clubhouse leaders who are sitting pretty. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have tacked on three straight birdies and eye a fourth on the par-5 11th which would push them to 24 under.

Back-to-back birdies

Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy take advantage of the par-5 7th and tack on another on the par-4 8th. They are now 22 under and three off the lead in the clubhouse (and in their group).

Fishburn flagging pins!

Clubhouse leaders, ramey/trainer post clubhouse lead.

The two are 25 under and one clear of the field.

Ramey/Trainer look to post

The hottest players on the golf course are coming up on their final hole. The two have gotten to 24 under which is now one behind Patrick Fishburn and Zac Blair and they will aim to match them and post the clubhouse lead at that very number. They are 8 under and would match the tournament low in alternate shot should they birdie 18.

Shane struggling

The team of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have carded two bogeys in their first three holes in large part because of Shane Lowry. A poor drive on No. 1 leads to a bogey and a poor tee shot and short missed putt on No. 3 leads to another. They made birdie on No. 2, but they are now four adrift from the two teams at the top.

Two at the top

Martin Trainer and Chad Ramey have joined the lead at 23 under. The two are out in front on the golf course and have gotten to 7 under through their first 13 holes. That is an incredible round in foursomes and they will hope to tack on probably two more birdies to post 25 under.

McIlroy/Lowry get underway

Let's see what the overnight betting favorites can do. They start the day two behind the leaders after rounds of 61 and 64 in the four-ball format. The two shot 2-under 70 in foursomes on Friday and will probably need to improve upon that given the crowded nature of this leaderboard. I'm keeping an eye on Lowry's putter as either a catalyst or hindrance to this squad.

Cantlay/Schauffele get within four

Can the 2022 champions be the team to post a score? A birdie on No. 11 gets them to 19 under and four behind the leaders. They have seven holes left and would love to add maybe four more birdies to get to that 23-under number and force the leaders to post something under par on difficult, windy day.

Here they come

Chesson Hadley and Greyson Sigg turn in 5-under 31 and are now within two of Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn. 5 under is no small feat in alternate shot and they will now have a chance to post something for the leaders to look at. The record in foursomes in 63 shot a couple times last year.

Sigg/Hadley showing the way

The Georgia Tech and Georgia duo has creeped inside the top five thanks to a fast start. The two are now 4 under through their first six holes and only three behind Fishburn and Blair at 23 under.

Today's forecast

Weather update.

The wind is up and it looks like some scary clouds might be rolling into the area. Rain is expected around 2 p.m. local, but hopefully it will skirt past without any delays. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay meanwhile are hot out the gates with a pair of opening birdies to get within five strokes of the leaders.

Cantlay/Schauffele in foursomes

The two have carded rounds of 63-66-66 in their last three foursomes rounds in this tournament. Once again it appears the easier four-ball format will be the death of this team as they aimed to win their second title in the last three seasons. They begin the day seven strokes off the pace and, who knows, if they can shoot something like 63 again maybe they have an outside chance.

Final-round action underway

The teams transition to foursomes (alternate shot) for the deciding final round at TPC Louisiana. This traditionally favors the stronger teams which is music to the ears of the betting favorites Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy. They won't go off for a little while, so in the meantime let's see if Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele can make a push.

Snooker could do with a Luke Littler to kick-start a new class of 92 but the likes of Mark Williams and Robert Milkins can't see it happening. This is very honest and pretty worrying. Crucible maximum breaks

The first 147 at the World Championship was achieved by Canada's 'Grinder' Cliff Thorburn in 1983 while Jimmy White (1992), Stephen Hendry (1995, 2009, 2012), Ronnie O'Sullivan (1997, 2003, 2008), Mark Williams (2005), Ali Carter (2008), John Higgins (2020), Kyren Wilson (2023) and Mark Selby (2023 final) are the others to managed Crucible maximums.

O'Sullivan's effort in 1997 against Mick Price, timed at five minutes 20 seconds, is the fastest ever recorded in the professional game.

World Championship history

The World Championship is snooker's most prestigious tournaments in the calendar and also the leading event to bet on among the sport's punters.

Taking place at Sheffield's world famous Crucible Theatre around April and May every year, except in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic forced its delay until August, the World Championship provides the climax to every snooker season and is the title all players dream of winning throughout their careers.

It is also the cornerstone of snooker's Triple Crown, which also includes the UK Championship and the Masters, and any player winning all three tournaments during their careers becomes an undisputed legend of the sport.

The World Championship, which was first held way back in 1927 when the legendary Joe Davis won the first of his record 15 crowns, has seen a number of repeat winners over the years such as Ray Reardon, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan who have all helped snooker punters beat the bookies on many occasions.

However, the heavily backed crowd favourite Jimmy White was a beaten finalist on no fewer than six occasions - including five in a row between 1990 and 1994 - much to the bookies' relief!

While 'Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan's seven world titles and three much-celebrated 147 Crucible breaks have brought much cheer to snooker fans in more recent times, the highly unexpected triumph of journeyman pro Stuart Bingham in 2014 was a real fairytale story that ranks closely behind the shock underdog victories that Dennis Taylor, in the 'Black Ball final of 1985', and Joe Johnson enjoyed over Steve Davis in the 1980s.

Mark Williams rolling back the years to win his third world title in 2018 also brought the house down, especially when deciding to fulfil his promise to strip naked for the post-match interviews!

A year later and there was less drama, as Judd Trump produced one of the most impressive displays in memory to thrash John Higgins , before O'Sullivan clinched a sixth title in 2020's summer renewal .

Then, in 2021, Mark Selby recovered from a heartbreaking semi-final defeat to O'Sullivan the previous year to win his fourth world title , moving alongside Higgins on the all-time list.

O'Sullivan went on to win his seventh World Championship in 2022 , beating Trump 18-13 in the final, while Luca Brecel overcame maximum man Mark Selby 12 months later.

World Snooker Championship 2024 LIVE RESULTS: Ronnie O’Sullivan leads Ryan Day by FOUR frames, Higgins vs Allen

  • Kieran Davies , Digital Journalist
  • Updated : 22:01, 28 Apr 2024

WE are fast approaching the quarter-final of the World Snooker Championship 2024 - and Ronnie O’Sullivan is close to booking his spot.

The Rocket is currently locked in a thrilling battle with Ryan Day where he leads 10-6 going into Monday's session.

John Higgins and Mark Allen will also resume their mouthwatering tie which the latter is currently winning 9-7.

  • Day Nine start time:  10am BST
  • FREE live stream:  BBC iPlayer
  • TV channel:  BBC One/Two/Four/Eurosport

Jekyll and Hyde performance at Crucible

There is no doubting the abilities of Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Throughout the session, there is no inbetween with 'The Rocket', he is either missing easy opportunities or firing absolute worldies that only he would pot.

This is part of the reason he gets annoyed with his own game at times, setting such a high bar for what he expects from himself.

Fine margins at snooker's elite tournament

In this evening's session, the difference between the players leading their matches and their opponents is purely clinical potting.

Ryan Day had plenty of opportunities to win frames that ended up going to Tonnie O'Sullivan.

The same could be said of the other match where Kyren Wilson showed his immense potting potential whereas Joe O'Connor seemed to feel the pressure of the big stage.

Rocket in pole position for quarter-finals

Ronnie O'Sullivan went into today's session with a two frame lead over Welshman Ryan Day.

He heads back to the hotel with a four frame lead and only needs a further three frames to seal victory.

Day will look at a session filled with missed opportunities and will be hoping that he can show more of the quality that saw him beat Barry Hawkins.

tour championship tv norge

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Joe O’Connor

A fantastic break of 102 seals the frame for O'Connor.

He will take a lot of confidence from that into the next session.

It is Joe O'Connor's first century of this match.

Kyren Wilson leads the match by four frames.

Kyren Wilson 10-5 Joe O’Connor

Joe O'Connor is currently on a break of 52 and leads the frame 52-25.

The problem for him at the moment is the three remaining reds clustered around the black.

As he pots the pink, he cannons into the cluster and they break kindly for him.

Massive chance to win the final frame of the day at this visit.

Wilson rattles a red as he looks to cut it into the bottom pocket.

He will be disappointed only to score 25 from that visit.

Many of the reds are still clustered in the middle of the table so it will be interesting to see how many points O'Connor can work from this chance.

O'Connor misses a cut into the middle pocket as he catches too thinly.

As he was playing to get onto the blue, he leaves Wilson with a pot.

This is pretty much the story of this match for Joe O'Connor, he is missing chances and Kyren Wilson is capitalising on the errors.

A break of 86 seals the frame for Kyren Wilson.

He wins the frame 110-0 to move into a five frame lead.

The last frame of the evening session is of massive importance now to O'Connor, who will not want to go into the next day's play six frames down.

Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-6 Ryan Day

A break of 75 is enough to win the frame for Ryan Day.

He moves to within four frames of Ronnie O'Sullivan as they finish play for the evening.

If he can make a good start to tomorrow's session, this match could still hang in the balance.

Kyren Wilson 9-5 Joe O’Connor

Joe O'Connor manages to take his chance to reduce the gap.

He wins the frame and is now only four frames behind.

If he can win the remaining frames in the session he could put the seed of doubt in Wilson's mind.

Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-5 Ryan Day

O'Sullivan misses a pot he regards to be relatively easy and bangs his cue into the floor in anger.

Day has the chance to take advantage and is currently on a break of 40 and leads the frame 42-13.

'The Rocket' is sat in his seat still ruing the pot he missed to give his opponent the chance to get in a frame-winning position.

Kyren Wilson 9-4 Joe O’Connor

Joe O'Connor is slowly chipping away at Kyren Wilson in this frame.

He is still not looking confident on his visits and struggling to find his best form.

O'Connor leads the frame 49-7 but there are still three reds remaining on the table.

Day finally takes one of the chances presented to him and wins the frame.

He reduces the gap to five frames and needs to build on that morale-boosting break.

There are not many frames left in the session but Ryan Day has to aim to win them all.

tour championship tv norge

Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-4 Ryan Day

Ryan Day is currently on a break of 48 and leads the frame 54-21.

Apart from one big break in this match, all of his other notable visits have been in the 30s.

The Welshman really needs to win this frame at this visit.

O'Connor is given a glimpse of a chance of making a score in this frame.

He plays a red into the middle but the cue ball position is terrible and leaves himself no colour to follow up with.

He has to play safe with his next shot but he cannot keep passing up these moments without getting a big score now.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has a break of 21 but is desperately unlucky when he cannoned into the pack.

Nothing easy is there for him and he goes for a very thin cut into the middle bag that narrowly misses.

This is a big chance for Ryan Day now.

O'Sullivan gets a 94 break in whirlwind fashion once again.

He opens up a six frame lead and it is hard to see a way back for Ryan Day now.

From O'Sullivan's perspective, the more he wins now this evening, the less he will have to do tomorrow.

Ronnie O’Sullivan 9-4 Ryan Day

'The Rocket' is getting into the groove now.

Even when he is leaving himself with far from perfect positioning, he is pulling off fantastic pots to keep the break going.

O'Sullivan is currently on a break of 84 and has another frame in the bag.

tour championship tv norge

Wilson just looks focussed to see this match out now.

He is potting well and wants to finish the evening session with as many frames as possible.

O'Connor is in a position now where every frame is must-win.

After O'Sullivan misses a plant, Day decides to continue the frame despite there not being anywhere near enough points on the table.

With only one red remaining, Day tries to play for a snooker but leaves the ball potable and 'The Rocket' smashes it into the top pocket.

Ronnie O'Sullivan takes the frame and is starting to pull away now.

Kyren Wilson 8-4 Joe O’Connor

In a tight frame, with the reds so spread, it is becoming difficult now to leave the cue ball safe.

O'Connor takes on a pot and misses and Wilson fires in a long red.

The colours are the only problem, with both pink and black near the cushion.

Ronnie O’Sullivan 8-4 Ryan Day

You just cannot leave Ronnie O'Sullivan even half a chance.

He can just produce something from nothing.

Currently on a break of 40, he leads the frame 61-6 and looks like he may win this frame in this visit.

This frame has really turned into a game of safety play.

O'Sullivan plays a brilliant snooker behind the blue and despite so many reds being on the table, Day fouls twice trying to get the pace so soft he does not leave anything on.

When he finally makes contact he leaves 'The Rocket' a touching ball.

As it stands O'Sullivan leads the frame 20-6.

The first frame after the interval is a scrappy one.

With the reds spread all over the table, both players are trying to leave the cue ball near the baulk cushion to try and tempt their opponent into a risky long pot.

Day seems to be changing his approach now and not giving O'Sullivan the free-flowing open game he loves so much.

tour championship tv norge

A fantastic break of 73 wins the final frame before the mid-session break.

It is Joe O'Connor's highest break in this match so far.

He really needs to regather his thoughts an ensure his wins the next mini-session this evening.

Hannah Green wins LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for 2nd straight year

LOS ANGELES — (AP) — Hannah Green won LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for the second straight year Sunday, holing out twice from off the greens in a pivotal back-nine stretch at challenging Wilshire Country Club.

A year after making a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation and winning on the second hole of a playoff, Green — with help from Maja Stark — took the late drama out of this one for her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second of the year.

“It wasn’t as a eventful as the last couple days. I was nervous,” Green said. “And I’ve never been able to win having a lead into the last hole like that, so it is nice to be able to get it done earlier in the round.”

Green closed with a 5-under 66 to beat Stark by three strokes. The 27-year-old Australian, also the winner early last month in Singapore, finished at 12-under 272 on the tree-lined layout with poa annua greens that become bumpy late in the day.

“It’s really kind to me,” Green said about the course. “I felt like a couple times today almost got like a member bounce. I, obviously, really am fond of the golf club and joked that they didn’t approve it with me that they were making alterations. I love it here.”

Green began the key run with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th and made a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th. Then, after Stark bogeyed the par-4 16th two groups ahead, Green ran in a 25-footer for eagle from the fringe on 15 to open a four-stroke lead, and made it 5 under in five holes with a birdie on 16.

“When I chipped in on 12 I kind of felt like I really snagged one there,” Green said. “I really like the 13th hole and also played the 15th really well. When I made eagle on 15 that kind of sealed the deal. I did see Maja got it to 9 under so I know what I needed to do. Usually, I make it really tricky on myself and only win by a shot.”

Stark finished with a 68, rebounding from the bogey on 16 to birdie the final two holes. The 24-year-old Swede also finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year.

“I’m really proud of the way I’ve played,” Stark said. “I feel like I’ve hit a lot of good shots and I feel like my nerves kind of took over for a little while, but I was always able to get back to the normal — my normal state of mind.”

Haeran Ryu (69) was third at 6 under, followed by fellow South Korean players Jin Young Ko (67) and Jin Hee Im (72) at 5 under.

Grace Kim, four strokes ahead entering weekend after opening rounds of 64 and 66 and tied with Green for the lead after a third-round 76, finished with a 77 to tie for 25th at 1 under. She failed to make a birdie the final two days.

Korda withdrew from the Los Angeles event Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.

Nelly Korda Withdraws From JM Eagle LA Championship Following Five Consecutive Victories

The World No. 1 is coming off a major win at last week's Chevron Championship.

  • Author: Madison Williams

World No. 1 Nelly Korda announced her withdrawal from this week's JM Eagle LA Championship after winning her last five tournaments in a row.

Korda is coming off a victory at the first LPGA major of the year , the Chevron Championship on Sunday. It is a historic achievement. Only two women's golfers have won five consecutive tournaments— Annika Sorenstam in 2004-05 and Nancy Lopez in 1978. For men's golfers, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods have accomplished this feat.

As for this week's tournament, Korda admitted she needs to rest after competing at the top of her abilities over the last month.

"It was not an easy decision," Korda said in a statement . "After the unbelievable week at The Chevron and grinding through the mental and physical challenges of four events in the past five weeks, I am definitely feeling exhausted. With so much still to come throughout 2024, I feel I need to listen to my body and get some rest, so I can be ready for the remainder of the season."

Prior to the Chevron Championship, Korda won the LPGA Drive On Championship, the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, the Ford Championship and the T-Mobile Match Play. At 25 years old, Korda has 13 LPGA wins, including two majors.

As of now, Korda's next scheduled tournament is the Cognizant Founders Cup, which runs from May 9–12. The LPGA's second major of the year is the U.S. Women's Open, which begins on May 30.
