Udaipur, Rajasthan's "white city", is often called the most romantic city in India because of its famed lakes and palaces. Therefore, it's only natural that they feature prominently in the top things to do in Udaipur. Experiencing Udaipur is all about reliving royalty and appreciating the city's regal beauty.

Check out these places to see around Udaipur too. There are many interesting day trips and side trips to go on. If you don't mind the heat, try and catch Udaipur's biggest festival, Gangaur, in March or April (it happens a couple of weeks after Holi each year). The Mewar Festival is held alongside it and celebrates the region's culture.

Explore the City Palace Complex

How did Rajasthan's royal rulers survive after India became a democracy and their states merged into the Union of India? They converted their palaces into hotels and tourist attractions in order to generate an income. Udaipur's City Palace Complex , belonging to the Mewar royal family, really sets the standard as far as such heritage tourism is concerned. This all-encompassing destination incorporates two authentic palace hotels (see below) and the City Palace Museum . Plus, a collection of vintage cars and Jag Mandir, a pleasure palace on an island in the middle of Lake Pichola. It's the largest palace complex in Rajasthan.

Wander Through Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli provides a further fascinating look into the lifestyle of the royal family and culture of the region. This sprawling mansion, built in the 18th century on the edge of Lake Pichola at Gangaur Ghat (where you can sit by the water), was once the residence of the Prime Minister of Mewar. It was converted to a museum after five years of restoration work in the late 1980s and is a joy to wander through. Inside there are more than 100 rooms, courtyards, and terraces, many with beautiful frescoes and fine mirror work. Royal paintings, costumes of the kings, personal items, and traditional Rajasthani arts and crafts are on display. There's also a puppet gallery and turban collection with the world's biggest turban. The Haveli is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A folk dance performance and puppet show is held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Boat on Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake

Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake (to the north of Lake Pichola and connected by a canal) are the most popular of Udaipur's man-made lakes. A boat ride on Lake Pichola gives a whole new perspective ​on the city, especially the City Palace Complex. There are a couple of options, depending on what you want to see and how much you're prepared to spend. To visit Jagmandir Island, you'll need to take one of the boats that depart from Rameshwar Ghat in the City Palace gardens (a small fee is payable to enter the City Palace if you're not staying at a hotel there). Tickets cost 500 rupees per person for the regular boat ride during the day, and 800 rupees per person for the sunset boat ride. Cheaper public boat rides depart from the jetty at Lal Ghat. A lesser-known option is to get a boat from Dudh Talai adjacent to Lake Pichola. You can explore Fateh Sagar Lake by renting a boat from the bottom of Moti Magri (Pearl Hill).

Soak Up the View from a Rooftop

The numerous rooftop restaurants on Lal Ghat, Gangaur Ghat and Hanuman Ghat provide a fabulous panorama of Lake Pichola. For something special, including a superb view of the the City Palace, head to Upre by 1559 A.D. atop the Lake Pichola Hotel near Hanuman Ghat. On the other side of the lake, Sun and Moon Restaurant on the rooftop of Hotel Udai Niwas at Gangaur Ghat is sought-after for its view. At Lal Ghat, try the rooftop restaurant at Jaiwana Haveli or Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel .

Watch the Sunset at Ambrai Ghat

Udaipur has many vantage points for photography but arguably the best one is Ambrai Ghat, especially at sunset. It's located directly opposite the City Palace and also fronts the Lake Palace hotel, so you have an unsurpassed view of both as their lights are turned on. To get there, head to the Hanuman Ghat area and keep walking along the road that runs parallel to Lake Pichola as far as you can, past the Amet Haveli hotel and Ambrai restaurant. Do be aware that Ambrai Ghat is a popular local hangout for couples. (Of course, locals know the most romantic spot with the best views in the city!)

Visit Jagdish Temple

This imposing white Hindu temple, with intricate architecture and carvings, is an unmissable landmark in the Lal Ghat area near the entrance to the City Palace. It was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1961 and houses a black stone idol of Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who's regarded as the preserver of the universe in Hinduism. The highlight here is the evocative aarti (worship ceremony) every sunrise and sunset.

Stay at an Authentic Palace Hotel

Udaipur's mystical Lake Palace hotel appears to float in the middle of Lake Pichola. It was built by the Maharanas of Mewar as a pleasure palace in the 18th century. The royal family restored and converted it into a palace hotel in 1963, and then leased it out to the luxury Taj hotel group in 1971, as a way to maintain it. Shilpgram (meaning "craftsmen's village") is a rural arts and crafts complex, located on the outskirts of Udaipur. It was set up by the government in 1986 to showcase rural life and traditions from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa. The complex has huts from each of the states, incorporating their distinctive architectural features. Artisans also sell their wares and perform folk dances. Horse rides and camel rides are offered as well. The complex really comes alive during the 10-day Shilpgram Arts & Crafts Fair in late December.

Continue tracing the heritage of the Mewar royal family at Saheliyon ki Bari (Courtyard of Maidens), which was built by Maharana Sangram Singh -- popularly known as Rana Sanga -- next to Fateh Sagar Lake in the 18th century. This elegant garden served as a recreation space for the royal ladies. It's filled with a lotus ponds, sculptures, marble pavilions, fountains, trees, and more than 100 rose bushes. The impressive cascading rain fountains were added by Maharana Bhupal Singh in the late 19th century and imported from England. Admire the View from Monsoon Palace

The Monsoon Palace (also known as Sajjan Garh) can be seen from Udaipur, perched high on a hill above the city. As its name suggests, it was a favored destination of the royal family during the monsoon season. The palace belonged to the Mewar royal family until it was placed in government hands. Despite its dilapidated condition, it's a popular sunset spot due to its unsurpassed view over Udaipur. Those who are familiar with James Bond's Octopussy movie will also recognize the palace as the home of the principal villain, Kamal Khan. The drive to the palace takes around 30 minutes and passes through Sajjan Garh Wildlife Sanctuary Biological Park. Auto rickshaws aren't allowed to enter the park. So, it's best to rent a car or take the special minivan that departs from the entrance to Bagore ki Haveli at 5 p.m. daily.

Get Wild at Sajjangarh Biological Park

Sajjangarh Biological Park surrounds the Monsoon Palace and can be visited on the way. The main attractions are trekking trails and a zoo. As far as zoos in India go, it's not bad, with spacious enclosures spread over a wide area. Electric golf carts can be rented to see all of it at a cost of 50 rupees per person, or 400 rupees for a private cart. There are about 20 types of animals and reptiles including lions, tigers, leopards, sloth bear, deer, ostrich, porcupines and turtles. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Tuesdays. Entry tickets cost 35 rupees per person for Indians and 300 rupees for foreigners. Do be aware that many of the animals sleep during the day, so it's best to visit after 4 p.m. You'll probably want to give it a miss if you don't have children though.

Red cable cars ferry sightseers on short trips (five minutes one-way) up the hill from Deen Dayal Park at Dudh Talai to Karni Mata temple . There's a viewing platform there, and it's another notable location for seeing the sunset over the city. Do be aware that the line and waiting time to buy tickets can be lengthy. The lake palace.

The Lake Palace in Udaipur is located on the Jag Niwas Island on a sprawling 1.5-hectare land. This magnificent structure was built on the Lake Pichola by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1734. Once a summer palace for the royalty of Udaipur, it has now been converted into a heritage hotel. Still retaining the grandeur, it resembles a fairy tale kingdom. Enhancing the magical aura are the rippling waves and the beautiful sunset. The intricate craftsmanship and aesthetic handicrafts and textiles add to the beauty this place. The elegant white marble palace is a fantasy as it arises softly from the blue waters. 4 acres of rock have been used to lay the foundation of this palace and was known as Jag Niwas after its founder.  The palace highlights include fountains, gardens, pillared terraces, painted mirrors, pink stone work, lotus leaves and cusped arches. Dhola Mahal, Bada Mahal, Phool Mahal, Ajjan Niwas and Kush Mahal are some of the apartments in here. Fateh Sagar Lake

The Fateh Sagar Lake is known to be the second largest lake in this city, is located on the northern side of Lake Pichola and is just opposite the entrance to Moti Magri Mahal. This artificial lake was built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1678 and got its name from Maharana Fateh Singh. This water body has a depth of 11.5 metres and extends 2.4 km in length and 1.6 km in breadth.

This is a quiet place and one can enjoy a boat ride here. The beautiful lake is encircled by hills on all the three sides and offers a stunning view which is considered to be places to visit in Udaipur.

City Palace

Lake Pichola

This is one of the most important places to visit in Udaipur. Lake Pichola is the reason we call Udaipur the ‘City of Lakes’. Built in 1362, and extending 3 miles in length and 2 miles in breadth, this lake is an essential part of Udaipur and far by its best feature. Astonished and amazed by the beauty of Lake Pichola, Rudyard Kipling once wrote: "If the Venetian owned the Pichola Lake, he might say with justice, `see it and die'".

Take Kipling at his word and visit Lake Pichola when in Udaipur, both in the day and at night. the lake takes on a whole new character depending on the time of the day. In the morning, lake and palaces are quiet. The lake is speckled with tourist boats and people clicking selfies line the shores. As night creeps in, all the Palaces around the lake light up and illuminate the lake. No boats, no birds, nothing to see except the lit-up palaces as they stand impressively around the lake. It is an awe-imposing spectacle.

Vintage Car Museum

The vintage car museum in Udaipur was unveiled for the general public on 15th February 2000 and is one of the places to visit in Udaipur. This inauguration has allowed the local and foreign visitors to appreciate the collection of cars of the Maharanas of Mewar. The vehicles in the museum are more than 70 years old but each have been beautifully restored and live in to tell the story.

The vintage car collection is placed in the Mewar State Motor Garage. This place is also home to a famous garden restaurant, The Bougainvillea. This motor garage is semi-circular in shape and with its forecourt is housed inside a bigger courtyard.

There is an old Shell petrol pump inside the garage which is still in working condition. This garage was built during a time when only the Maharanas of Mewar had owned the cars. Jagdish Temple

Built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651, Jagdish Temple, situated within the Udaipur City Palace is another one of the great works of architecture from the olden days. It has finely carved pillars, beautifully decorated ceilings, gorgeously painted walls, and spacious halls and corridors. Apart from this, the architectural expertise also extends itself to the pyramidal spire, mandap (prayer hall) and the porch. There are 50 finely carved pillars, each on the first and the second floors of the three storey temple.

The main shrine, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is reached by climbing 32 marble steps and it is encircled by minor shrines of Lord Ganesha, Sun God, Goddess Shakti and Lord Shiva respectively. All the fine details of the palatial temple are built in accordance with the Vedic Vaastushastra, which speaks of the science of building. The entire structure today serves not only as a place of worship but also as an initiation into the culture of the people of the past.

It shows how highly they regarded architecture as a means of expression of sentiments; the construction of this temple cost Jagat Singh 1.5 million rupees. Bagore Ki Haveli

Saheliyon Ki Bari

Saheliyon ki Bari is a beautiful garden in the city of Udaipur and is one of the popular Udaipur tourist places. Fountains, marble art and the lush lawns attract the public each time. Saheliyon ki Bari in English means the ‘garden of maids’. This garden represents a green retreat of Maharana Sangram Singh in the desert lands and was built in the 18th Century for the royal ladies of Mewar. It is situated on the banks of the lake Fateh Sagar and is one of the stunning places to visit in Udaipur.

According to the legend here, the garden was personally designed by the king and gifted to his queen. The queen had 48 maids accompanying her after the marriage and to offer them peace and happiness away from the regular life, this garden was built.

There are four water pools, marble elephants, fountains and kiosks around the here. The bird fountains and the lotus pool are very popular. The stunning and romantic view of the garden makes it a special place for lovers. Rain fountains were added to the garden later by Maharana Bhopal Singh. Shilpgram Fair

Shilpgram is a crafts fair and is organized annually in the west side of the city of Udaipur. It aims to promote the art, craft, textile and handicrafts of Rajasthan. This state is famous for handicrafts, bandhej, tie and dye, mirror work and embroideries. Camel leather items, hand woven clothes are some other items that are highlight of this fair.

The gala is usually held during the month of November or December and continues for 10 days. This fair encourages local designers, potters and other visual artists. There are a lot of workshops held for those who are interested in learning the art and craft of Rajasthan.

Shilpdarshan is also organized at the Shilpgram fair in Udaipur. This program is organized to make the public understand the traditional skills and help in selling the local art works. There is a Crafts bazaar at this fair that helps in selling the Rajasthan handicrafts and souvenirs.

Gulab Bagh and Zoo

Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace

Sitting on a hill just outside the main Udaipur city is the Monsoon Palace, undisputedly one of the best places to visit in Udaipur. The palace was built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh in order to be able to monitor the approaching monsoon clouds better. Monsoon Palace is a majestic piece of architecture. It is built with white marble and has light, wide corridors and rooms within. But the best thing about the palace is the view from its windows.

Monsoon Palace looks down at Lake Pichola and beyond the lake is a panoramic, birds-eye view of the city of Udaipur embraced by the Aravalli range. Words cannot describe the beauty of this scene adequately enough. The view is enhanced multi-folds s during the monsoon season. During the rainy season, Monsoon Palace is uniquely suited to present to the visitor the majesty of Udaipur as dark clouds descend upon it.

It is truly a scene to remember. But on the other hand, sunsets here are also absolutely fantastic. Try to include at least one sighting on your visit. The palace is circled by the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, so you can stroll through the sanctuary inhabited by Tiger, Nilgai, Sambhar Deer and various other animals.

Jaisamand Lake

Lake, also popular as Jaisamand Lake. This is the second largest artificial lake in Asia with an area of 87 square kilometres. The lake is surrounded by the Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary. As a result, the entire location is very scenic and peaceful. The huge lake was built in the 17th century by Rana Jal Singh, who constructed a marble dam across the Gomti River, thereby creating this lake. There are three islands in this lake which are home to the tribes of Bhil Minas and one of the best Udaipur tourist places,

Thanks to the nearby sanctuary, the aquatic life of the Jaisamand Lake is fertile too. The whole lake is a magnificent structure but its bund is perhaps its most striking feature. It is no exaggeration to call it gigantic at 202 feet long, 116 feet high and 70 feet broad (at the base). All along the marble dam are quaint little attractions like the Shiva temple, the elephant statue made of marble, and six exotic cenotaphs (marble chattris).

And crowning the lake stands the grand palaces of the Queens of Udaipur. The lake is a marvellous example of riverine architecture and a place to behold. Visit it in the winter months for the best possible experience. You can take boat rides on the lake for as little as 30/- INR. Known as Lake Garden Palace, Jag Mandir has been built on the island of Lake Pichola. The construction of this structure has been credited to the three Maharanas of Mewar. This palace was started by the Maharana Amar Singh in the year of 1551 and was later carried on by Maharana Karan Singh and completed by Maharana Jagat Singh. Hence it is called Jagat Mandir or Jag Mandir.

Serving as a summer resort and pleasure area for the royal family of Mewar, this place is also famous for holding parties and wedding functions. In here you will find Gul Mahal, Darikhana, Garden Courtyard, Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Zenana Mahal, and Kunwar Pada ka Mahal.   

Jag Mandir is the main palace and it includes the Gul Mahal. The towers at the corner are octagonal in shape and have cupolas on the top. Residential suites, reception halls and internal courts adorn the palace and one of the best Udaipur tourist places.

The architecture of the building reflects Mughal and Rajput style. The Zenana Mahal is constructed adjoining to the main temple and the Kunwar Pada ka Mahal is located at the western end of the structure. The Gul Mahal was built by Maharana Amar Singh and it was developed by Maharana Jagat Singh for housing the Mughal prince Khurram. The palace has been built with sandstone, black marble, and has a crescent of Islam fixed on the dome of the structure. Maharana Pratap Memorial

This is one of the famous, low-key sites in Udaipur. The Maharana Pratap Memorial was built by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar in memory of the legendary Maharana Pratap. The central figure of the memorial site is that of Maharana Pratap mounted on his horse and loyal friend, Chetak. The statue is symbolic because it tells a story of courage and faithfulness and deep love between humans and animals. Both Maharana Pratap and Chetak are the heroes of this story.

Apart from this statue, the memorial also has statues of other members of Pratap’s court like Hakim Khan Sur, Bhamashah, Bhilu Raja, and Jhalaman. The memorials are set in the landscaped Japanese Rock Garden. You can take a pleasant stroll around the entire garden, stretch your legs, and look down from Moti Magri to the city around you. The remains of an old Udaipur Fort nearby are an added attraction to the already picturesque landscape.

Photographers, make sure your batteries are charged and your focus is set because you are going to take a lot of pictures out here. The place just calls for them. Early morning or evening is a good time to visit the memorial. Avoid scorching afternoon heat and if you go in the evening, you get to watch the light and sound show too. Udaipur Solar Observatory

Udaipur Solar Observatory is known to be the best solar observing arena in the whole Asia and is one of the celebrated places to visit in Udaipur. This is situated in the island of the Fateh Sagar Lake and has been designed on the model of the Solar Observatory, Big Bear Lake in California.

This place was established under the care and expertise of Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar and the Vedshala Trust of Ahmedabad. The observatory aspires to do research in Modern science and is the main lace to develop the solar physics in India.

As the island is surrounded by water on all sides it offers a perfect atmosphere for solar observations. Sharp images of the sun can be acquired easily on an island because the air turbulence is lesser on an island than on the normal ground. The other advantage is that this observatory is located in Rajasthan that receives maximum exposure to sun.    

There is a range of telescopes on display that will give a person perfect observation of sun. This observatory has added a new instrument namely, the “solar vector magnetograph”. This instrument will be helpful in determining the magnetic field of the active regions. Dudh Talai Musical Garden

Dudh Talai Musical Garden is a small pond surrounded by a rock garden which is supposed to have a musical fountain in it. This garden is situated within the city and you can easily stop by for 10 to 15 minutes. While the setting of the garden is good, the best part about it is the wide-ranging view visible from here. Lake Pichola is located nearby and you get to see the Udaipur City Palace at a very good angle from this point.

Camel rides and horse rides are also available and you may also go boating on the pond. One high point of the location is the ropeway connecting it to the Karni Mata Temple. The location of this garden is good for photography.

Eklingji Temple

The Eklingji Temple Complex is one of the architectural sights you need to put on your list of places to visit in Udaipur. It is a complex whose foundation dates back to 734 AD. The first temple of the complex was built back then by Bappa Rawal and dedicated to Eklingji. Eklingji is a form of Shiva and the complex is full of figurines of Shiva along with figurines of Parvati, Saraswati, Ganesh, Kartik and Nandi.

Over the time, the complex has grown to house 108 temples, all of them are made out of marble and granite with complex designs cut into the stone. The sole temple of the Lakulish sect in India, known simply as the Lakulish Temple and built in 971 is also housed here. This complex is a not just a place for history enthusiasts and people who want to pay their respects in the temple. It is a place full of memories of a distant past; a time when modern technology could not aid in the construction of complicated buildings.

The main temple, built in the 15th century, has a structure topped with elaborate domes that will boggle your mind. Appreciation for the marvellous stone work will be the overwhelming sentiment you experience when you walk around the 108 temples. Kumbhalgarh fort.

The Kumbhalgarh Fort is another attraction and tops the list of the places to visit in Udaipur. It is 64 km away from the main city and is the second important structure after the Chittorgarh fort. This place also served as a refuge to baby king Udai of Mewar and is the birthplace of the King Maharana Pratap. The walls of the fort are very thick and stretch across 36 km. Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is the main attraction for the people visiting the city of Udaipur. It falls in the district of Rajasamand in Rajasthan and lies 65 km away from the main city. This reserve spreads on a sprawling 578 sq km land and encircles the fort of Kumbhalgarh. It covers a broad area that includes the Rajasamand, Pali and the city of Udaipur.

This sanctuary was built to provide shelter to the endangered animals like jackal, jungle cat, sloth bear, wolf, leopard, sambhar, hyena, chital, wild boar, Chausingha, Chinkara and many more. Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh Fort lies 112 km away from the city of Udaipur and is a true embodiment of the pride and chivalry of the Rajput tribes making it one of the places to visit in Udaipur. The fort tells a long story of sacrifice, courage, romance and determination. The marvellous site has a well- designed palace, towers and cenotaphs.

Built by the Mauryan rulers in the 7th Century, this fort is a huge structure that is secured with strong gates. It covers a total area of 700 acres and is near to the Gamberi River. The fort has seen a total of three battles in the lifetime. There are seven giant pols that you will come across while travelling towards this place.

This place partly reflects the art and architecture of the Dilwara temples in Mount Abu. Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary

Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary situated on the shores of Jaisamand Lake, the second largest artificial lake of Asia. The lake and the sanctuary work in synergy with each other which helps the marine and the forest life to thrive and grow immensely. In existence since 1957, the wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 62 square kilometres and houses wildlife such as sloth bears, leopards, chitals, chinkaras, wild boars apart from a wide variety of the birds like Darter, Open Bill Stork, Pond Heron, Little Cormorant and Indian Shag.

The density of the flora is matched by the depth of the fauna in the lake which includes various species of fishes, turtles and many crocodiles. The Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is a great compliment to the Jaisamand Lake. Do visit both together for an optimal experience.

Nathdwara Temple

This place deserves a visit for the dramatist and historian in you. Haldighati is a mountain pass in the Aravalli range, connecting the districts of Rajsamand and Pali. It gets its renown for the battle of Haldighati that took place between Rana Pratap Singh of Mewar and Raja Man Singh of Amber in 1576. It was a singularly ferocious battle that is still alive in the memory of Rajasthan. A marble chattri is located 4km from the site with a marble statue of Chetak, the faithful horse of Rana Pratap Singh, nearby. Chetak is said to have fallen during this battle. This statue honouring his death was put up by Maharana Pratap in 1576.

The place gets its interesting name from the yellow colour of the sand which looks like turmeric (haldi). Other interesting places close to Haldighati that you can tour are Balicha Village which is famous for its terracotta crafts and Badshahi Bagh, famed for its Chattri-Gulab and a place where you can get your hands on some rose water and Gulkand which is touted to have amazing medicinal properties.

Lake Pichola is one of the largest and the oldest lakes that Udaipur features. 4. Fateh Sagar Lake

The three storied palace comprises of an elegant facade with elephant statues, the Gul Mahal, a garden courtyard, the palace of 12 stones, a zenana mahal and Kunwar Pada ka Mahal.

13. Maharana Pratap Smarak

The Maharana Pratap Smarak overlooks the beautiful lake of Fateh Sagar. The place showcases a marvellous statue of Maharana Pratap with his horse Chetak beautifully crafted in bronze. A lot of tourists stop by this place to pay homage to this famous Hero of the Rajputs.

Visiting Hours – 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM in the months of April to September and 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM in the months of October to March.

Time required for exploring the place – half an hour

Activity – You can enjoy the light and sound show at the Maharana Pratap Smarak. The timings for the light and sound show are 8:00 PM – 8:45 PM in the months of April to September and 7:30 PM – 8:15 PM in the months of October to March.  

14. Haldighaati

Haldighaati is the renowned destination where the historical battle between the Rajputs and the Mughals took place. The Rajput army was led by the famous Rajput Hero Maharana Pratap. The place features a cenotaph made up of delicate and thin columns carved from superior quality marble, dedicated to Chetak, the horse of Maharana Pratap. Also, the place is quite renowned for the beautiful Mulela art wall hangings that the local artisans excel at. So, you can have a great time shopping in Udaipur  for some of such unique items.

It is well decorated with fountains, trees, bushes and plants. It is situated on a 90-feet hillock and you can see the entire city of Udaipur.

16. Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum is one of the most important museums in Rajasthan. It has a collection of artefacts and objects that are important to the culture and heritage of the Mewari region. It is functional under the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal that holds training, documentation and puppetry sessions. It is playing a major role in keeping the tradition of folk art alive

17. Mansapurna Karni Ropeway

Mansapurna Karni temple was built by Maharana Karan Singh but being located in the remote Machhala Magar Hilltop, it was not very easily accessible to people. Therefore in 2008, a ropeway was set up to make it accessible to the general public. The ropeway connects Deendayal Upadhyay Park to Karni Mata Temple and gives you a spectacular view of the Doodh Talai Lake and the whole city. If you are there during the sunset, you will enjoy the view more.

20. Crystal Gallery

Crystal Gallery has the largest collection of crystals in the world. The Crystal Gallery is located inside the Fateh Prakash Palace. It was built in 1877 by Maharana Sajjan Singh and the crystal artefacts were brought from Birmingham.

21. Neemach Mata Temple

It is located on the Dewali Hilltop and on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake. Mata Temple is devoted to the Neemach Mata Devi, also known as Ambaji. It is greatly revered by the Hindu pilgrims and devotees. The central deity is believed to be the home goddess of the royal family of the Maharanas in Udaipur. Besides, of the ‘Shikhar’ which is the central towering segment in a temple, there is the inner sanctum sanctorum that has a ‘hawan kund’ for performing the ‘yagnas’. Also, the temple offers panoramic views of the beautiful lakes and the whole town below. Neemach Mata Temple will have to be trekked or climbed up to by a flight of stairs. The distance is about 900 metres. The temple also has an idol of the Hindu God Ganesh and three sides facing lions.

22. Bagore ki Haveli

Bagore ki Haveli is eighteenth-century palace that is located on the waterfront of Lake Pichola, in the Gangaur Ghat Marg. The palace has about a hundred rooms that have doors adorned with mirrors and glassworks. It was built by Amar Chand Badwa, who was the Prime Minister of Mewar. It has beautiful paintings and minerals that aid on the walls and the Queen’s chamber is one of the most popular attraction in the palace with two spectacular glass and Mirrors cultures of peacocks.

23. Marvel Water Park

Marvel Water Park is one of the oldest and popular water parks in town. It is situated in Goverdhan villas. There are many rides and water slides. The most famous slides are Zip Zap Zoom, Splash Pool, Twisty Turvy, Soakers etc. There are several food joints and restaurants inside the premises.

24. Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort is among the five hill forts in Rajasthan that UNESCO declared as World Heritage site in 2013. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is situated in Rajsamand district and is constructed on the foothills of Aravali ranges. The Majestic fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century during the reign of Mewar. The Fort is also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. It houses the Badal Mahal that was built by Rana Fateh Singh. Kumbha Palace, Jain temples, Chhattris, water reservoirs, Baoris etc are also built in this Fort.

25. Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary

Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the shores of Jaisamand Lake. It is spread over 62 km and is a home to wildlife species like Chital, Sloth Bears, Leopards, Wild Boars, Chinkara, Open Bill Stork, Darter, Pond Heron, Indian Shag and Little Cormorant. The Jaisamand Lake has fishes, turtles and crocodiles.

The Haveli became the residence of Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore in the year 1878 and hence the name Bagore Ki Haveli. This was converted into museum retaining the royal touch to the building. The museum presents the culture of Mewar. The antique collections include the stuff used by Rajputs such as jewellery boxes, hand fans, copper vessels and so on. Ranakpur is mainly known for its Jain temple built in the 15th century after a divine vision. It pays homage to Adinath, the first Tirthankar of the present half-cycle according to Jain cosmology. This temple is known for its beautiful marble carvings and stunning architecture and has even called one of India’s most beautiful Jain temple.

4. Kumbhalgarh Fort

• Distance from Udaipur:  2 hr (86.0 km).

This massive fort has the distinction of having the second largest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. 1. Udaipur City Palace Museum

One of Rajasthan’s architectural wonders, the City Palace in Udaipur is home to the state’s biggest palace complex. It is the most visited attraction in Udaipur. The palace is surrounded by the Aravali Mountain range and is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Pichola. A spectacular perspective of the surroundings is provided by the natural settings. The main Tripolia (triple) gate, which serves as the complex’s entry, provides views of the City Palace’s many architectural styles.

2. Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is a stunning artificial freshwater lake found west of Udaipur’s Old City. As you see Udaipur’s stunning lakes and ghats you will understand why it is known as the “Venice of the East.” Discover Udaipur’s renowned Ghats, which are the backdrop for many well-known Bollywood films and tv series. Take a walking trip to explore the histories behind Hanuman Ghat, Nav Ghat, Lal Ghat, Ambrai Ghat,and Gangaur Ghat. One of the best things to do in Udaipur is to go on a boat ride around the lake and take in the lovely city’s beautiful scenery It is something you shouldn’t miss.

3. Jag Mandir Palace

On the southern island of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan, stands the majestic Jag Mandir Palace. It is sometimes referred to as “The Lake Garden Palace.” The palace has three stories and is built from yellow sandstone and marble. Admire the sight of eight life-size elephant sculptures made of pure white marble that appear to watch over the palace. Embark on a pleasant boat ride and go to an island in Lake Pichola. 5. Udaipur Old City

Udaipur a fairy-tale-like city is a favorite destination for many tourists who come to Rajasthan thanks to its romantic old-world charm, glistening lakes, and magnificent architecture.

Go on a tour around the vibrant ancient city of Udaipur. There’s a lot to explore in the Old City area. Check out the impressive collection at the Vintage Car Museum at the Udaipur Palace. 6. Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli is a magnificent mansion-turned-museum constructed in the 18th century by one of Mewar’s ministers. This museum has a variety of intriguing Rajput antiquities, including copper utensils, jewelry boxes, hand fans, hookahs, dice games, and other unique items.

In addition to providing stunning views of Lake Pichola, the building serves as a showcase for Rajasthani tradition and architecture.

In the haveli’s more than 100 chambers, you’ll find paintings, intricate glasswork, and sculptures that will wow you at every turn. Plan your visit for the evening if you want to watch the lovely Dharohar Dance Show.

The Puppet Museum, a favorite among children, has a collection of puppets on exhibit. One is greeted with small puppets and other handcrafted furnishings at the museum’s entrance.

You can also enjoy the one-hour Dharohar Dance Show, which begins each evening at approximately 7 pm and is Bagore ki Haveli’s main attraction. This one-hour performance is held in the Neem Chowk courtyard.

7. Ranakpur Jain Temple

Ranakpur, nestled in a secluded valley in the Aravali range, is located in the Pali district about 60 kilometres north of Udaipur. It is home to one of the biggest and most significant Jain temples in India.

Head out to the Ranakpur Jain Temple, which dates back to the 15th century. Explore the temple’s five spires, 20 domes, 29 halls, and 420 pillars.

Enjoy the clever architectural design that allows the entire building to be illuminated by natural light. Stroll through the temple’s lit courtyards, which open up to the sky. Near the main temple building, you’ll find three other temple structures with stunning architectural details as well.

8. Kumbalargh Fort

Visit the 15th-century Kumbhalgarh Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which can easily be reached within a 2 hours drive from Udaipur.

Discover the Kumbhalgarh Fort’s four main entrances, Art Pol, Halla Pol, Ram Pol, and Hanuman Pol. Visit the complex of temples by exploring the many Ganesh, Vedi, Nilkanth, and Mahadev temples. Experience the wonderful vistas of the Kumbha Palace, Jhalia ka Malia, and Badal Mahal or the palace of clouds while you have the chance. The Sound and Light Show at Kumbhalgarh Fort is a must-see event. The show takes place every evening, in the fort, well-lit by floodlights describing the history and cultures of Maharanas of Mewar.

9. Mount Abu

The hill station, Mount Abu is situated in the Aravalli Range. Every year, tourists are attracted here to beat the heat of Rajasthan and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere.

Its description as “an oasis in the desert” is not coincidental. The abundance of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls makes it the ideal haven from the oppressive desert heat. Mount Abu is around 163 kilometers away from Udaipur. The drive takes 3 hours. Pass by Nakki Lake, the area’s most well-known lake. It has wonderful mythology behind it in addition to being lovely and spiritual. There are several temples on Mount Abu as well. Visit the five Jain Dilwara Temples and marvel at Guru Shikhar’s priceless marble sculptures.

From food to life style, everything is in royal style and most importantly it is conserving culture in a beautiful way, The Lok Kala Madal, Shilpgram, City Palace, Saheliyon ki Bari and Museums all are a distinct place to visit. I usually prefer to visit any place by taking bike or car on rent and if someone have same habit( I think many would agree), then you can hire a car for rent from Anita Holidays Actually Udaipur is not a big city, so travelling by car is safe. Even I booked a hotel which was recommended by Anita Holidays and it was great to acquire their package and in very small time they arranged very well. So Dudes if you all are thinking to visit in this monsoon. Believe me monsoon is the best season.

Truly Udaipur is an awesome place to visit. Not only the city but the surrounding area of the city is also full of mesmerizing natural gems. Whether it is Chandni village, Shivalik Dam, or Badi Lake. It’s worth visiting these places too.
