You can also reach the town by train from Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, etc. From Kathgodam, you can take the local bus or book a cab to reach here.

Nainital is well-networked with the rest of Uttarakhand, and other neighbouring states by national and state highways. The best and nearest junction for road travel is in Delhi, about 350KM away and you can take NH 9 to reach Nainital from Delhi . Nainital: 7 Offbeat Day Trips

Nainital needs no introduction. It has been a popular hill station in Kumaon for more than a century and I don’t really have to reiterate the same. Today, I am listing out a few interesting places that you can visit from Nainital on a day trip. I have taken care to keep the distance to a maximum of 100 KMs so that you can make day trips from Nainital. However, it is also possible to stay in these places and spend more time, if you can.

Do note that there are other better-known hill stations nearby like Almora, Bhimtal, Ranikhet, and Mukteshwar, along with the Corbett National Park, which is also within striking distance. I have left them out because they are already famous and you probably know them already. Coming back to Nainital, it remains one of the most sought after destinations for family vacations. As a well-developed tourist centre, you can stay in the budget and premium accommodation options in Nainital and drive to these places on day trips, once you are done with local attractions of the town. However, before that, you should also enjoy Nainital and nearby areas, especially Pangot, a good birding detsination.

Jageshwar: The Abode of Shiva

Jageshwar is a cluster of ancient Shiva & other Hindu temples near Almora dating back to the 1st Millennia. It is one of the most important surviving archaeological sites in the entire Himalayas and is a great example of the region’s architecture and sculpture. Better known as Jageshwar Dham, it is around 96 KMs from Nainital and can be clubbed with a visit to Almora, which is 36 KMs away.

Kaladhungi: Memories of Corbett

Kaladhungi is another small town surrounded by fertile valleys known for its agricultural riches. It is 37 KMs from Nainital, closer to the plains and on the edge of the famous Jim Corbett National Park. Corbett himself used to live here, in a place called Chotti Haldwani, just in the outskirts of the town. Now, that place has been turned into the Corbett Museum, where you can find his personal memorabilia and relive his adventures.

Ramgarh: The Fruit Bowl of Kumaon

Ramgarh is a small town on the way to the more famous hill station of Mukteshwar. It is only 35 KMs from Nainital at an altitude of 2000-2300 meters. Although small, it is an important town where many major Hind literary figures like Mahadevi Varma & Ramdhari Singh Dinkar lived and worked. This may give you an idea that this is a place is an idea for long term stay, where you can work on that novel that you may have been planning to write for the last 10 years! These slopes are very fertile, full of apricot, pear, peach, and apples, thus earning it the sobriquet of Fruit Bowl of Kumaon.

Someshwar: The Rice-bowl of Kumaon

Someshwar is around 102 KMs from Nainital, on the way to a more famous hill station called Kausani. Someshwar area is a plain valley just before the hills of Kausani starts. It is primarily fed by two rivers, Kosi and Sai. You can reach here by any Kausani, Garur, or Bageshwar bound bus from Almora. It is not a touristy place and the primary delight is the lush green rice-fields dotted with hilly streams and hanging bridges over them. Sattal: Hike Through Seven Lakes

The name Sattal literally comes from Sat Taal (Seven Lakes). It is a small place 21 KMs from Nainital, surrounded by an interconnected cluster of seven lakes. Himalayan lakes are delightful anyway and here you have not one but as many as seven lakes. You can hike through the forests from one lake to another and enjoy the views of Kumaon while at it. It is also a major hub for ornithologists and lepidopterists and in fact, there is also a butterfly museum.

Naukuchiatal: The Nine Cornered Lake

Naukuchiatal literally means nine corned lakes and it is another lake town as the name suggests. It is around 26 KMs from Nainital and is another place that is growing rapidly in popularity. It is known for activities like angling, bird watching, parasailing, paragliding, rowing, paddling, yachting etc.

Nainital Lake / Naini Lake

At a distance of 1.5 km from Tallital Bus Stand, Nainital Lake is a natural freshwater lake, situated amidst the main town of Nainital. It is one of the prime Nainital tourist places . Nainital Lake is commonly represented to promote Nainital Tourism. The lake was built in 1839 by P. Barron. Situated at an altitude of 2,000 m, this is one of the four lakes of Kumaon hills, the other three lakes are Sattal Lake, Bhimtal Lake, and Naukuchiyatal Lake. Nainital Lake is lunar-shaped and has an outlet at the southeastern end. The lake covers a perimeter of 2 miles with a depth that varies from 6 m to 28 m. The northern part of the lake is called Mallital while the southern part is known as Tallital. Balia Nala is the main feeder stream of the lake. At a distance of 10 km from Tallital Bus Stand, Naina Peak, also known as China Peak, is a mountain peak in Nainital. It is the highest peak in Nainital, and among the famous attractions to visit during your Nainital trip . Naina Peak is situated at an altitude of 2615 m. The peak was renamed from China Peak to Naina Peak after the 1962 war with China. This highest point of this mountain is widely known for its amazing natural surroundings and the snow-covered mountains all around. At a distance of 2 km from Tallital Bus Stand, the Naina Devi Temple is a Hindu temple situated on the northern end of the Nainital Lake near the Nainital Boat House Club. It is one of the top places of pilgrimage in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, and among the must-visit places during Nainital Tour . The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Naina Devi represented by two eyes. According to the legend, Naina Devi Temple is the place where eyes from burned body of Goddess Sati fall when her corpse was being carried by Lord Shiva. At a distance of 22 km from Nainital & 12 km from Bhimtal, Sattal or Sat Tal is a cluster of seven inter-connected freshwater lakes located in Nainital district. At an altitude of 1,370 m, it is one of the most scenic places around Nainital and also one of the popular Uttarakhand tourist places . The group of lakes is set amidst dense forests of oak and pine trees. Sattal is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted fresh water bodies in India. This is often compared with Westmoreland of England by British. The names of the seven lakes of Sattal are Purna Tal, Ram Tal, Sita Tal, Laxman Tal, Nal Damyanti Tal, Sukh Tal and Garud Tal. The town of Bhimtal is older than the Nainital city and it was once part of the ancient silk route. The town and the lake are named after Bhima, one of the Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata who is said to have visited the place during the exile period. 6. Ranikhet, Uttarakhand-‘The Queen’s Land’

The Queen’s land, Ranikhet is a charming hill station in Uttarakhand developed by the Britishers.

The place is surrounded by green lush forests of pine, oak, and deodar trees and wildlife including leopards, deer, etc.

Ranikhet is a paradise for trekkers, Haidakhan temple devoted to Lord Shiva is one of the famous treks. 7. Kausani, Uttarakhand – ‘Switzerland of India’

Kausani is a popular tourist destination for nature lovers, travelers, and romantic couples. It is located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, 51 Km from Almora. The city is surrounded by lush greenery and blue pine forests with charming attractions making it a relaxing vacation away from the noisy and polluted city life.

Pangot Hill Station

Pangoot or Pangot is a famous destination for birding and sightseeing. Pangoot is a gorgeous hill station and it is a good option to visit while you are enjoying your trip to Corbett. Since it is just 96 kilometres from the Jim Corbett Park it is an ideal short getaway to explore the surrounding places around Jim Corbett National Park. Chenna Peak range surrounds the entire destination and it is blessed with thick forested area making it a suitable nesting place for birds. Pangoot is mainly known for birding and here you can get a glimpse of many exotic birds like slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, blue-winged minla etc. This tourist destination is also well stocked with cosy hill resorts which provide the tourists with an ultimate comfort amidst the natural setting. Pangoot is a perfect place for nature lovers, photographers and honeymooners.

Pangoot is located at a distance of around 83 kilometres from Corbett. And it is 13 kilometres from Nainital. You can get taxi and bus services from this place.
