Cruising along Duke Street, listening to soft calypso music, you will see the island's old Bermudian-style homes. Panoramic views include talcum powder-like beaches and the stunning Caribbean Sea, little changed since Christopher Columbus sailed past in the 15th century. This is also the land of the 17th-century buccaneers, who used Grand Turk as a bolthole between raids on passing ships.

Grand Turk Rainbow Calypso Island tram tour
Grand Turk is such a great island for vacation. Different from visiting European cities, we came here for relaxation and for fun. We could drive around the whole island for couple hours but I was here for three times with different cruise lines. First, I spent half day on a beach. On the second visit, I joined an excursion with tram. The third time, I took a taxi (van) going to the Cockburn Town for photos and videos. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video has to be worth at least 1.8 million words. So, take a look the video on my utube channel. Just search 逆難疫旅 HowFarGo
Having traveled to most regions of the world and in the last ten years travelling six to eight months a year We decided to spend six nights 0n gran Turk and it has to noted that the island is absolutely filthy with rubbish strew everywhere add to that ,that prices as per all of Turks and Caicos are exorbitantly high and the islanders are only slightly less rude than those on provincialis, plus the beaches are very average by Caribbean standards and yet again rubbish is strewn everywhere . In short a thoroughly awful island and we can’t wait to leave tomorrow morning .
We took our first trip to Grand Turks. The island is beautiful. The water is clear and the beaches are so pretty. We had visits from some of the islands wild donkeys and dogs who liked to hang out on the beach. The only downside to staying at Grand Turks is meals are expensive and credit cards are not accepted at very many locations. There are also some smelly areas where the air is not pleasant due to standing water. This is the perfect location if you want to relax. Bring bug spray, plenty of cash. When the cruise ships are not in port not everything is open. A great place to relax and get away.
. . . but it is here...…. I did not feel very safe, but we did park our transportation device (a golf cart) and took all our stuff and took some photo's. It's dilapidated and hurricane struck....
There were no shore excursions which interested us on this cruise, so hired a car to explore the island instead. After at least two huricanes recently, the infrastructure except for the government buildings and a few resorts were in good shape. The roads are in extremely bad shape except for that to the College and lighthouse. We did not go off the semi-paved roads onto the crushed coral and semi-sand covered roads in case the tires of the car (only with Japanese GPS and not able to be changed) suffered a problem. We drove up to the lighthouse, somewhat rusty with apparently a good view, a nice garden and gift shop, admission was charged at the gate and may who were on an organized excursion were dismayed at this. The college appeared to be in good shape; lots of donkeys around. Some nice views of the sea but on the whole a very poor island. Cruise port was much the same as others, lots of shops and cafes.
When you walk the streets of Cockburn Town in the morning you will be greeted by anyone and everyone. From one end to the other it is chock full of history, Unfortunately the hurricanes have wreaked havoc on many of the buildings in recent years and rebuilding is a slow process. It's all part of their history and these people seem to take it in stride. If you walk in the evening, after sunset, you would be advised to bring a flashlight as street illumination is little and far between. A very safe place to visit.

Island Tram Tour
We have been to Half Moon Cay many times and wondered about the Island Tram Tour as we wanted to see "behind the scenes". We've walked the island many times and swam and snorkeled in the beautiful beach. This time we took the tram tour and did not regret it even though we were very familiar with the island. Our tour guide Yvette was amusing and a lot of fun as well as informative. Although it was almost a glimpse of the of the living accommodations on the island for the 35-40 residents, it was very informative. I would recommend it.
Really nice place! Wish we could have stayed here 2 days and not go to Nassau. Water is awesome. Enjoy!!!
This was one of our two ports on our Carnival cruise and we were not sure what to expect. My sister had been on a cruise that stopped here the October before, and said it was like you were in a movie scene because it is so beautiful. She couldn't have been more accurate. The island itself was very nice and well kept, and it was also nice that it was a private island so you didn't have to be bothered by locals trying to sell you things or having your belongings stolen. The buffet was delicious and consisted of many healthy options. And the beach was so beautiful! I have been to many Caribbean islands with beautiful beaches, but Half Moon Beach is by far the prettiest beach I've ever been to. It had the softest white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. It was so relaxing! Overall, I loved going to Half Moon Cay and I hope to travel here again in the future!
Visited this stop on a Holland America Caribbean Cruise. It was absolutely beautiful scenery and relaxing to lounge by. Although it was a tad over crowded as the entire cruse ship was crammed into a tight area of beach lined with chairs. Thank goodness we were lucky enough to be the only ship there, had there been another ship it would have been way too much. Great stop and good beach. Don’t expect too much snorkeling at least for coral or fish on the port side beach as there isn’t any. You’ll have to take a snorkel excursion which i’m sure would be fantastic as the water was crystal clear. Overall very good visit
This was my third time at Half Moon Cay on a Holland American cruise, and it is always my favorite. The beach is pristine and beautiful, the water clear and gorgeous. Grab a chaise in the shade and do some fantastic people watching. Walk the beach, and the little inland trails, go to the bbq buffet (if you're a vegan like me, bring a steak knife so you can carve up the fruit centerpieces). Tender services are quick, there are showers and places to change if you get too sandy, and of course beach bars if that's your thing. Everybody needs an occasional day at the beach, and this is the beach for it.
First stop on our Holland America cruise and we were not sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowding, long stretch of the most beautiful beach and plenty to explore. The water is some of the clearest and has most beautiful Carribean colors that change with the sun and clouds. Lots of activities like snorkerling, horseback riding, a tram, walking trails, small shopping area, nice bar/reetaurant available on the beach, clean restrooms, plenty of chairs for lounging and just taking in the beauty of the sea.

Have been to HMC a few times. Always get off the tender, find a lounger and SIT!!! And do NOTHING!!! I'm now a solo cruiser and going back in June. I'd like to see the island. CCL offers an island tram calypso tour. Just 45 minutes but you see all the highlights of the island and then can enjoy beach/bbq etc for the rest of the day. Anyone been on this tour? TIA.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.
Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?
Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:
- Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
- Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
- How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
- What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
- What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
- What is the current exchange rate for rubles?
Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.
The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.
If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.

Classic film lovers: See James Dean’s apartment and more on new TCM tour at Warner Bros.

In 2021, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour created new interactive exhibits focused on the company’s recent history, unveiling areas dedicated to the DC Comics universe and the “Harry Potter” franchise.
This week, the popular Studio Tour in Burbank is doubling down on its more distant past.
Warner Bros. is now offering a Turner Classic Movies-branded version of its studio tour that will bring guests to previously off-limit areas of the lot, including vintage animation buildings, a mini rose garden and an apartment that once housed James Dean. The 90-minute tram portion of the jaunt — about 30 minutes longer than the studio’s standard tram excursion — will allow guides to go deeper into the history of the studio’s catalog to deliver factoids related to such films as “Casablanca,” “My Fair Lady,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Auntie Mame” and many more.
“We’re off the leash,” says Brad Taylor, a 15-year tour guide veteran with Warner Bros., noting that the TCM excursion will include time for guides to chat with visitors about their favorite films.
“We get to talk to the guests and really hang out with people who have the same passion that we do,” Taylor says. “I find that ‘classics’ guests are less about behind-the-scenes and more, ‘I can’t believe this is where we are.’ It’s just the look on their faces when they realize ‘Casablanca’ filmed here, or James Dean stood right here.”
The launch of the TCM tour arrives during the network’s 30th anniversary and close to 12 months after classic film fans were given a scare. In June, Warner Bros. announced that layoffs would hit TCM, including some of the network’s top executives, prompting concern from prestige directors such as Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese. After garnering national attention, key cuts were reversed and Warner Bros. sought to assure fans that TCM would continue to be handled with care.
Long live TCM! Our culture would be worse off without movies on TV
Without Turner Classic Movies and other channels for movies on TV, we’d lose the instructive pleasures of the happy accident, the unexpected discovery.
Aug. 1, 2023
TCM network hosts — Eddie Muller, Jacqueline Stewart, Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone and Dave Karger — recorded new video segments for the outing. The tour will take guests into the lot’s Property House, an area not visited by the standard tour. Here, visitors can get glimpses of materials for a full set, including items for a complete Oval Office setting, but expect guides to highlight vintage items, such as a throne from the Errol Flynn pirate film “Captain Blood.”
Danny Kahn, vice president-general manager of the studio tour, says there have been numerous requests over the years from guests to delve a little deeper into the studio’s animation history. That’s why the TCM tour will for the first time take visitors to an area of the lot once known as “Termite Terrace,” which from 1955 to 1964, says Taylor, housed the animation department, a building with a sloped roof designed to capture sunlight. Animation legend Chuck Jones, says Kahn, had an office in the Termite Terrace area in the 1990s despite Warner’s moving animation production elsewhere.

How the Universal Studios tram tour defined the modern theme park
The most important theme park ride ever created? It may just be the Universal Studios tram tour, which dates to the silent film era. Once primarily a behind-the-scenes tour, the trek has evolved to define the modern theme park.
Aug. 3, 2023
Another unique tour locale is the exterior of the Dean apartment. When Dean resided there during filming of “East of Eden,” it was actually across the street from the lot, the apartment nesting above a pharmacy. But gradual studio expansion has led to the area now being on Warner Bros. property.
“That was an actual drugstore with apartments, and the studio rented it for him,” Kahn says. “I think it was to keep an eye on him and keep him on a short leash.”
The tour will also give tram riders a look at executive life at the studio, allowing them to briefly walk around a rose garden. The manicured spaces once held a tennis court as well as offices and personal screening rooms for the likes of studio mogul Jack Warner, with many of the structures dating to the 1920s. “It’s a really historic area of the lot that hasn’t really changed a lot in all these years,” says Kahn, noting the area is still in use by studio principals. “Jack Warner, when he ran the studio, privatized the first floor. That was a massage parlor that he had beneath his office.”

Staples of the tour, such as a journey around the backlot city streets, a visit to the “Friends” set and cafe and recent additions highlighting the studio’s modern franchise films are included in the TCM trek, as is a pre-tour reception with beverages and pastries. All told, expect the tour to last about 3½ hours. A tour spokesperson says the first TCM-branded outing is scheduled for Wednesday, with trams expected to depart daily after that date. Adult tickets are $95, but there is a Southern California resident discount available for $75.
“It feels so good to have TCM here,” Kahn says. “People understand that the TCM brand is synonymous with classic film.”
