The bus driver was extremely rude and bossy he wouldn’t let us take anything onto the bus (which is fair for cleanup when it come to alcohol but we were starving and had food packed) and the bus didn’t have any charging ports or bathrooms. Overall not a great experience.

Had an excellent experience with travelmaster. Used them to get to and from Nia Horans first concert in Dublin. Very attentive bus driver, he had great local knowledge as we had to travel off route due to a traffic accident still got to the concert with plenty time. Bus could do with a upgrade but service was excellent

Terrible company

Terrible company, extremely unhelpful customer service and no help when dealing with complaints. Do not communicate well and they have started parking way up the road from the 3arena which seems very unsafe especially during the winter. Do not use this company

Cancelling trips.

Travelmaster will gladly cancel a booked trip less than 2 weeks out from it and provide 0 context They will do this just after their phone lines close so you can not ring for context This company is a disgrace. Don't bother with them, we had a trip booked since February and now they've cancelled it. Leaving us and everyone else scrambling to find alternative transportation to Dublin Untrustworthy, uncommunicative and unacceptable

Extremely disappointing bus service.

Extremely disappointing bus service. Would highly advise not to use! It’s our second time using this service and it’s just as disastrous as the first time when the driver was 2 hours late picking us up and 2.5hrs late collecting us to bring us home. This time the driver ‘forgot’ to stop ar the loughrea plaza so we had to go all the way back!. This is is not a new stop and it’s his job to remember all stops, extremely unprofessional and honestly has been hell both times, so many things went wrong on each journey that makes it seem neither driver has ever drove a bus before or ran a service.

Got a bus to Harry Styles in Slane and our bus driver Tommy was excellent! He couldn’t have been more accommodating! It’s obviously a very difficult venue to get out of and he was in no rush getting out of there and made sure everyone was back on time! He stopped on the way up and back in a service station for us! Would love to have Tommy every journey I take with travelmaster 😊

Return journey for Garth Brooks

I booked return seats for Garth Brooks for myself & 3 others. The bus pulled up, a few people from the queue got on (bus driver for both buses were painstakingly slow checking people off a printed list, there must be a quicker way, a scanning device or something!) & then the bus driver said they were full and that another bus would be here in 10 minutes. About 25 minutes later another bus came & all bar 4 people were able to get on so I don't know what ever happened to those other poor people who were turned away after booking seats. When I booked the return journey I was expecting a bus that would arrive at scheduled time with enough seats to cater for all who had booked. The second bus that we made it on didn't leave until after 4pm & we were meant to leave at 3pm. Not the company's fault on this part but where buses had to park up was a 38 minute walk to Croke Park.

Date of experience : September 17, 2022

Myself and 4 friends got the bus from cork to Marley park for the greenday concert. The bus was supposed to leave at 1pm but it left 40mins late. The bus driver read out every single name and called them on one by one - instead of simply scanning the code OR allowing the person to call out their name so it could be ticked off the list. The bus driver was extremely rude to people for no reason. He told us we had 30mins after the concert to get back on (tickets say 45mins) and there was no stop halfway (tickets say there is). The seats are not sturdy and the toilet was a mess. The whole bottom floor on the bus smelled of urine the entire trip.

Date of experience : June 28, 2022

Good service but poor timing

Got the bus to the Green Day Hella Mega tour in Dublin. Useful, but the bus showed up late for the pick up and arrived at the concert venue late as well. 1 of the 4 bands missed, very disappointing. Surely a bespoke bus put on exclusively for the concert has to be on time!?

Date of experience : June 29, 2022

Not a fantastic experience.

Honestly a very useful way to get to and from a concert. For the Hella Mega tour date in Dublin me and 4 others got the bus from cork to right outside the venue. However, the bus itself was 20 minutes late which would've been fine if the driver didn't refuse entry to everyone so that he could read every individual name of about 30-40 people from a list to let them in one by one, and also refused to allow people in together when everyone had a screenshot of a ticket that could've been scanned upon entry. We ended up leaving 40 minutes late because of this and our driver was incredibly rude to the passengers in the bus; I personally was shouted at when I first entered the bus for mishearing my name, as the driver was standing quite a ways away and barely anybody could hear as he called out - I cannot stress this enough - 30+ names one by one, most of the time twice. When leaving for the concert the driver was very unhelpful when people were asking him questions and only answered them with the same response every time. The bus itself was also in shambles if I'm honest. The seats were broken so that you could not put pressure on the back of the seat, or else it would completely fall down onto the person behind you. The bathroom was unclean and had no toilet paper, and had a horrible smell for the entire trip home through the whole bottom floor of the bus. Literally the entire time. It was actually nasty.

Terrible experience

On the 13th of November I travelled to Kendrick Lamar in the 3arena on the travelmaster bus from Alfred Street. A second bus had to come after the first bus was full and the second bus driver was 10 minutes late. He was also one of the most unpleasant men I have ever met in my whole life. He called out everyone's names one by one while we stood out in the lashing rain, this took about 20 minutes as he had 70-80 names to call out and some of the people had gone on the first bus. Perhaps using the QR codes supplied on the tickets would be beneficial in future, however he seemed to be incapable of doing so and was instead just ticking people off a list and calling them out. He also called out one of my friends name and then proceeded to not let him on because people were talking while his name was called out, told him he wasn't being left on the bus and when my friend re approached him after everyone else was on the bus driver started a shouting match with him and tried to claim his name wasn't on the list despite having called out his name five minutes previous. He then claimed that he was leaving at 11pm regardless of what time the concert ended, which caused everyone on the bus to have to leave the concert early. The bus driver himself didn't show up at the bus until approximately 11:15pm so this threat of leaving at 11pm was completely false. I also missed the end of Kendrick because of this. The toilet on the bus on the way up and down also had no toilet paper nor soap, making me worry for the general cleanliness of the bus.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

Rupert Neve Designs MBT

For the first time, the Red and Blue bands of RND’s popular Silk circuit can be used together in the same device — but there’s more to the MBT than purple Silk!

Rupert Neve Designs (RND) are probably best known for their mixers, mic preamps, EQs and dynamics processors, but they’ve also built up a significant range of master‑bus related products, and their latest release is the MBT, or the Master Bus Transformer to give it its fully expanded title. The MBT is a stereo device that’s designed to give the user control over a range of potentially pleasing processes, including tone‑shaping, compression, stereo width enhancement and harmonic distortion.

Construction & Controls

The fascia of its substantial, 2U 19‑inch rackmountable, black‑painted steel chassis offers plenty of space between the controls, and the white legending is large enough to be easily readable from a distance (something that can often present a challenge to spectacle wearers such as myself!). On the back, you’ll find XLR connectors for the electronically balanced inputs and transformer balanced outputs, along with a combination IEC connector and mains power on/off switch. And on the inside, as with all the RND products I’ve reviewed, the PCB design, layout, components and build are all of the highest quality. The main PCB is dominated by the two channels’ custom output and inter‑stage transformers, and power to both it and the front‑panel daughterboard is provided by a pair of high‑quality switch‑mode power supplies.

The electronically balanced inputs are on Neutrik Combo connectors, while the transformer‑balanced outputs are on XLRs.

The input section features a ±12dB trim control and a relay‑switched high‑pass filter, whose corner frequency can be set within a range of 15‑100 Hz, allowing you to remove unwanted low or subsonic frequencies below the cutoff point. The post‑trim/pre‑EQ stereo signal level is displayed on a pair of LEDs that turn green at ‑20dBu and red at +23dBu.

The relay‑switched EQ that follows the input is a simple two‑band shelving setup with up to ±9dB gain per band. The low‑frequency band covers 30‑240 Hz and its high‑frequency counterpart 3‑24 kHz but, as you’d expect, these curves reach deeper into the frequency spectrum than those figures might suggest, and the bands overlap somewhat between approximately 350Hz and 2.5kHz.

The curves of the shelving filters can reach well up/down into the audible band, even at their most extreme settings.

A potential side‑effect of compressing a stereo source can be a narrowing of its soundfield, and the relay‑switched Width section that follows allows you to compensate for this, but it also gives you the ability to creatively widen your mix’s stereo image. It’s not the simple M‑S balance control you might have expected, though. It operates on a sum of the L‑R signal, which is high‑pass filtered and then passes through a gain stage. The signal is then multed, with a polarity inverted version fed to one of the L‑R channels and a non‑inverted one to the other. The Width knob controls the gain stage, while the always active high‑pass filter has a user‑adjustable corner frequency range of 50‑800 Hz, so you can remove low and low‑mid frequencies up to 800Hz from this ‘synthetic Sides’ signal to avoid any low‑frequency anomalies that result from the process.

The Super Silk section allows you to add more distortion than in previous products, and to blend the Red and Blue Silk characters.

Super Silk utilises a dedicated L‑R pair of inter‑stage transformers that can be pushed close to core saturation without affecting the output level. A Drive LED sitting between the Blue Silk and Red Silk level controls illuminates when the signal level entering the inter‑stage transformers reaches the optimal range for the production of the Silk harmonic distortion. This new Super Silk circuit topology allows you to achieve much higher levels of harmonic distortion than were possible under previous iterations of the Silk Texture function. In addition, an amber‑illuminated button activates Zener diode‑based soft‑clip circuitry that sits after the inter‑stage transformers and adds emphasis to the Silks’ harmonic distortion.

In the final front section there’s ±12dB of output trim available. This area also hosts a red‑backlit button that relay‑switches the MBT into hard bypass, as well as a twin 16‑segment LED output level meter, scaled from 0‑24 dBu, and a green power‑on LED. The evenly spaced meter scaling is worthy of mention: with 0‑12 dBu being covered in two 6dB steps, 12‑16 dBu in a single 4dB step and 16‑24dBu in four 2dB steps, there’s helpfully higher resolution across the most critical area.

This new Super Silk circuit topology allows you to achieve much higher levels of harmonic distortion than were possible under previous iterations of the Silk Texture function.

Once you’ve inserted the MBT on your master bus, everything that follows requires only your ears, intuition and creativity. The high‑pass filter on the input is an extremely effective subsonic filter and I found myself leaving it permanently in circuit, set at approximately 25Hz. The equaliser is smooth, transparent, effective and sounds extremely musical to my ears. The high‑frequency band’s extension up to 24kHz and beyond offers the ability to add an airy, silky high end to a track, whilst the low‑frequency extension meant that with judicious use, and careful balancing with the high‑pass filter, I could boost a track’s low‑end foundations and still maintain definition.

The optical Color Comp compressor features both a side‑chain high‑pass filter and a parallel compression Blend control.

As a master bus compressor, the MBT’s Color Comp does the business too. Set as I like my master bus compressor to be (a 2:1 ratio with the side‑chain HPF engaged to keep unwanted low‑frequency‑driven compression in check, with a long release time and the threshold set so the LED flickers to indicate just 2‑3 dB of gain reduction) it sounded good. Really, really good. With tracks that needed some compressor ‘glue’ to hold them together, increasing the amount of compression and, where necessary, increasing the ratio to 5:1, it gave me exactly what I wanted. But there’s more to it than that. The higher compression level built up the track’s weight and warmth with the increased low‑frequency harmonic content. And, of course, the Blend control made setting up parallel compression simple and intuitive when required.

If I have a favourite section on the MBT, it’s the Width processor...

If I have a favourite section on the MBT, though, it’s the Width processor. I’m something of a convert to M‑S mastering but on heavier mixes I found that I preferred the sound of the MBT’s Width process. With the Width control set at approximately 60 percent of its travel and the HPF at about 100Hz, the stereo soundfield of one of my favourite tracks (Colin Blunstone’s live performance of ‘She’s Not There’ from the Night of the Proms ’93 CD) was lifted out of my monitors in stunning fashion. I did experiment with boosting the Sides signal in my DAW to see how close this would get me, but while it gave me a result that I wouldn’t have been reluctant to go with it just didn’t feel quite as exciting as what I’d achieved using the MBT’s Width control.

The Silk harmonic distortion facility has always appealed to me, but the increased level range available within Super Silk’s two frequency bands (in broad terms, across low to low‑mid for Blue Silk and high‑mid to high for Red Silk) mean you can now make things really saturated if you feel the need. As I’ve found in the past, deciding on the amounts of either Silk is a matter of using your ears rather than anything else. Since the MBT offers the ability to run both colours separately or in combination, and the Harmonics knob gives you control over just how much of that Silking drives the inter‑stage transformers, you might find you want to spend a little longer listening out for exactly what this section is doing.

That said, you might want to keep an eye on what the Drive LED is doing, since that gives you a measure of what’s happening inside the inter‑stage transformers. A solid (and pretty bright) LED indicates that you’re getting very close to core saturation, while for mixing and/or mastering if the Drive LED is flickering and the Red and Blue Silks and/or the Harmonics master are in the first 20 percent of their travel, you should be in a fairly safe zone, where transients aren’t being reshaped too much.

Switching in the transient‑shaping Zener diode soft‑clipping acts to increase the overall harmonic saturation and bring out further the impact of the Silk mix that you have created. Personally, then, I think this all adds up to make the MBT as good a candidate for processing things like drum, synth and guitar subgroups as for master bus processing or mastering.

Finally, it isn’t often that the output stage of a piece of outboard gets singled out for mention, other than in relation to any potential transformer‑related distortion, but in the case of the MBT the ±12dB output trim control is a critical component. Sitting in the signal path are five potential sources of gain — input trim, EQ boost, the Color Comp’s make‑up gain, and the additive contributions of the Width and Super Silk sections — so in practice the output trim sees pretty much constant use, as you balance the effects of the first four gain stages, the amount of Silk you add, and the input level requirements of the next unit in your signal chain.

Ride The Bus?

Rupert Neve Designs’ Master Bus Transformer is an extremely impressive device that delivers exactly what its designers intended it should, and although the price tag puts it out of the reach of all but professional studios and wealthy project‑studio owners, its audio quality and performance easily justify that cost. Obviously, signal coloration is a matter of taste, but if your production direction and technique involve adding copious amounts of harmonic distortion to your subgroups, stems or mixes, the MBT is definitely going to appeal. Special mention also goes to the Width function, which does broadly what M‑S based stereo widening can do but in a slightly more exciting fashion, especially when processing heavier tracks. I’d urge anyone who has both the need for bus or mastering colour and the budget available to audition an MBT at the earliest opportunity. I’ll be very sorry to see this one leave!

  • Extremely impressive performance.
  • Can generate high levels of harmonic distortion.
  • Mastering quality optical compression and EQ.
  • The stereo widening function works really well.
  • Not inexpensive.

A very impressive combination of equaliser, optical colour compressor, stereo widener and harmonic distortion generator that delivers an overall performance that justifies the professional price tag.

Amazing Customer Service

Customer Service was great, had error with ticket purchase and it was resolved speedily with good reception.

Date of experience : 03 April 2024

No consideration just a PROFIT MAKING…

No consideration just a PROFIT MAKING ORGANISATION. Issued with a travel pass that was 6 days rather than 7. Here I was issued with a complimentary pass (day) to compensate the shortfall. Only to have an "expiry date" upon it. N yes you guessed there not bothered!!!! Money grabbing corrupt company!!!!

Date of experience : 14 March 2024

NO REPLIES!

Sent emails, no replies, tried to call numerous times, no reply not taking calls due to staff shortages..... sorry, but that doesn't help the customer, had people emailing me annoyed cause nothing was been sorted, bad customer service.

Date of experience : 04 March 2024

Excellent customer service

Query was resolved promptly and in a friendly manner

Lost my card, quickly rectified by customer service

Lost my card for the second time, emailed customer service who very quickly transferred the remaining days of my lost pass onto my new card

Date of experience : 17 March 2024

Horrible customer service!!!! NEED MY REFUND!

Lost my card since the 4th of march, 2024 with a full 28day ticket on it valid from the 4th of march. I sent an email for card to be blocked and a new card to be sent, I got a response that I need to pay for a new card then ticket can be transferred. I have paid for a new card yet no card has been received since the 5th of march. I have since been paying for my travels with my money hence losing more money. I have requested for a refund for my money on 28 day ticket as this was used only once but no response. The customer service is terrible, I have called but not reachable by calls, reached out on Facebook, more than 4 emails sent requesting for my refund with proofs, still no response. I want my refund as I have been paying for my travel daily and can not lose my money on my 28day ticket.

Great service

Customer service were great, resolved my issue on time and happy with the services I got. However, email is the best and easy way of getting your problems sorted.

Date of experience : 15 March 2024

Why have you replied to my review but not my 10+ emails?? You've took my money!

Why is it that you can reply to a review but not my emails (10+) and everytime I call you which is at least three times a day, it's saying the same thing... that you're not offering a telephone service due to staff shortage. BUT YOU CAN REPLY TO MY REVIEW??. So seen as this is the only way you're getting back to me, we'll have a conversation through trust pilot. So... WHEN ARE YOU GIVING ME MY MONEY BACK?? or putting my 28 day rider on my Stagecoach card

Date of experience : 07 March 2024

Reply from TravelMaster

Sorry to hear there have been some issues with communications. From one of your emails which came from one of your email accounts, I can see that one of our customer service advisors sent a response on the same day. In addition, I can see that there has been some further discussions and merging of your multiple emails from your other account with another customer service advisor. I apologise that one of our partners gave you some incorrect advice at an interchange. As our advisor notified you, your ticket is not a TravelMaster ticket, it is a tram only ticket bought at a ticket vending machine operated by Travel South Yorkshire. Therefore we do not have your money or the ability to add this ticket to your card. To do this we recommend you contact Travel South Yorkshire (https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/contact). We do have plans which are moving towards delivery to both increase customer service representatives and join services better with Travel South Yorkshire. Whilst communications have failed you on this occasion, please be assured we are looking to improve this in the near future.

The new app is very convenient to use…

The new app is very convenient to use and has made getting tickets easy to do. However it did take about 8days to get a response on advice for a lost active card.

Date of experience : 05 March 2024

Thanks for the 5 stars 🤩 we are glad the app is easy to use. Please keep an eye out for ways in which are making it even easier. Sorry to had a bad experience in regards to our customer service. We've been taking a little while lately to get back to people due to staffing issues but we are now back on track and getting through the backlog.

Very bad experience

Very bad experience, I tried to buy a monthly buspass and there was an error on the payment page then money was deducted from my account without receiving my ticket and until now I didn’t receive refund. Because of that I should pay again for travelling every day.

Date of experience : 09 February 2024

We are sorry you had a bad experience with our systems. I am glad we managed to sort you out the payment issue. It does look like the bank had not cancelled the pending transaction against your account so it looked like money was taken for the pass. In cases of pending transactions money doesn't reach TravelMaster but does appear to show deducted in your account and we understand can affect your balance. We do have safeguards in place to stop this happening but occasionally as with all systems there is the odd exception. We are sorry for the inconvenience this caused you.

What a brilliant service following a lost travel pass

What a brilliant service. My daughter lost her bus pass and having purchased another Travelmaster very quickly and efficiently froze the lost one and credited the new card with the remaining days travel from the lost card. Excellent service. Thank you x

Date of experience : 12 January 2024

Satisfaction

Honest and helpful. I am pleased with the customer service.

Date of experience : 15 February 2024

I ordered a wrong bus pass my fault

I ordered a wrong bus pass my fault, but when I called to get it changed they had a staff shortage and weren’t taking calls and this went on for 3 or 4 days. Emailed and got help eventually with a account credit so I could buy the correct one. So received a good service apart from how long it took.

Date of experience : 16 January 2024

Thanks for taking the time to leave a response. Sorry we have been a bit slower at responding to queries lately but we are working on additional agents and resilience plans to improve this moving forward. I am glad we managed to get you sorted out with credit.

Great customer service

Very happy with the support I received. Great and helpful customer service!

Poor company with poor communication…

Poor company with poor communication skills , Very slow to reply and you never know what to expect , waiting time is usually after 5 days even though they say within it never is , I've had a lot of issues with buying online not usually my fault ,you never know what they will do either it's not always plain sailing with refunds they sometimes offer vouchers instead or decline refunds if the ticket you purchased has started , when you contact them , this is when they should reply! I find them hard to communicate with and also I find that the app has issues where it jumps to the previous month worst I've ever come across and customer services are appallingly bad and all other other ways of purchases the same , back to cash on the bus , .

Date of experience : 24 February 2024

Sorry you have experienced issues when contacting us. We have had a large influx of customer service requests recently and lower staffing levels. We are now back on track with staffing in the team and making our way through the backlog so may still take some time for responses. However, we are getting back towards the timescales on our Customer Charter. If you are able to send us some screenshots of the app jumping to previous months that would be appreciated - it's not something which we have had reported elsewhere. Our policy is always voucher or resending a ticket for collection first (if we don't get back to you on the day of contact we provide tickets for when you first contact us). If your ticket has already started we do not provide refunds for any previous used or unused travel. What we do offer though if a refund is not applicable is to move the remaining travel from the day you contact us to a new ticket.

Had a problem with an Annual City Wide…

Had a problem with an Annual City Wide purchase. Reported same. Within 24 hours had received a call back from the team; a solution to the problem and customer service which was 100% over and above expectations. Well done and a special thank you to Steven.

Very responsive

Contacted via email with a top up enquiry. Response the following day and sorted out successfully. Great service. Thank you!!

After smart card broke

After smart card broke, customer services were brilliant and sorted out transfer of ticket etc. quick, efficient, polite and helpful team.

Thanks for the review, Caroline! It's lovely to hear such great feedback.

Huge problems with Zoom card

Usually news about buses is bad: fares going up or services cancelled. So when Travelmaster market a new discount card for 18-22 year olds on which you can load a week's pass for £15.60, you would think it is good news at last. No - many bus (especially Stagecoach) drivers & tram conductors refuse to accept that the Zoom card is anything more than an entitlement to an 80p ride. We bought a week's pass for my son, who is not a confident traveller and he was constantly having to pay extra. Travelmaster says that it is easy to contact. No it's not. Nobody seems to answer the phone and response to emails takes 2 days. The response to our problems has been very lukewarm. In essence Travelmaster are selling a product which doesn't work.

Date of experience : 07 October 2022

Hi Peter, sorry you and your son have experienced issues. Adding 18-22 products to the Zoom Beyond card is a new process which is still bedding in and because of pass misuse last year with the Zoom Beyond card not all drivers and conductors are aware of the initiative. We have been in contact with Stagecoach, Supertram and other operators to ensure that the new process is understood by all staff including the production of awareness bulletins and posters. If your son does continue to experience issues then there is an option to order a free 18-22 Discount Card from our website (as has been the case for a number of years) but we hope this is not the case. One reason for enabling the 18-22 discount products on a Zoom Beyond card was to avoid young people needing multiple passes for both ease and reduction in creation of 'additional plastic'. Please be assured we are working hard on educating operators and their teams to minimise issues with acceptance.

great customer service

i had an issue with my smart card so i contacted their customer service and they were super helpful and polite as well as informative. so great!

SEPTA bus overhaul will not exacerbate inequalities, new study says, despite critics’ concerns

The study measured the number of jobs a rider could reach within 30 and 45 minutes and average travel times to the nearest hospital, rec center, library, and closest supermarkets.

The SEPTA route 7 bus drive along Oregon Avenue.

A new independent analysis of SEPTA ’s bus network overhaul contradicts a major concern raised by critics of the project: that proposed service changes would reinforce transportation inequities.

The latest complete version of SEPTA’s bus network overhaul, a plan developed over the last three years, would deliver increased access to opportunity or preserve existing levels of access for most Philadelphia riders compared with current routes, according to an equity analysis by the nonprofit TransitCenter think tank.

Overall, the study found that the December 2023 draft of the Bus Revolution would result in minor changes, up or down, in the numbers of jobs, hospitals, libraries, rec centers and supermarkets that riders could reach and travel times needed to get there.

“The way I read it, Bus Revolution is neither as bad as anyone fears nor as good as some people would like it to be,” said Connor Descheemaker, coalition manager for the nonprofit advocacy group Transit Forward Philadelphia.

And SEPTA planners were constrained by a mandate to keep the route reorganization cost-neutral, meaning that every boost in bus service in one area had to be balanced by a cut somewhere else, a kind of mathematical taffy pull.

“The only way to more substantively improve access is to invest money on more service hours,” Descheemaker said.

Access to hospitals, groceries, and rec centers

New York-based TransitCenter conducted the equity comparison analysis of the December 2023 Bus Revolution plan and the current network for Transit Forward Philadelphia.

The researchers used several periods throughout the week to show differences and similarities.

They found average travel times to the nearest hospital, rec center, library, and three supermarkets fell within one minute of current times for all demographics measured in both the proposed and current network.

The analysis also measured the number of jobs a rider could reach within 30 and 45 minutes of their starting point at different times in each network.

It found some improvements in access to jobs under the Bus Revolution Plan, including:

Asian residents would be able to reach more jobs within 30 minutes on weekday afternoons and evenings than today.

The number of jobs accessible within 30 minutes on weekday mornings increased across all demographics. Notably, one of the biggest improvements was for households without access to a car.

Black residents would see an increase number of jobs accessible within 45 minutes on weekend afternoons .

Outcomes were broken out for white, Black, Asian and Hispanic people , as well as people age 65 and over. The study also looked at access for households living in poverty and people who don’t own a car.

It relied on population demographics and employment data from the U.S. Census, TransitCenter said.

Descheemaker cautioned that the analysis looks at bus service in the city and does not cover Bus Revolution changes proposed for the other four counties in SEPTA’s service area.

Allocating limited resources

Like many peers, SEPTA faces an operating deficit, $240 million in its case, as federal pandemic aid sunsets.

The transit agency last week concluded a series of eight final community meetings and one virtual meeting after City Council members asked for more time to engage their Black, brown and lower-income constituents on the plan.

SEPTA paused the project in February, just as its board was poised to adopt the final draft of route changes after more than two years of public question-and-answer sessions and surveys.

“There were areas that kind of fell through the cracks a little bit” earlier, said Dan Nemiroff, SEPTA’s director of service planning. He said the latest meetings reached people who might not ordinarily come to such events, thanks to Council members who helped organize and publicize them.

A SEPTA map shows the agency conducted widespread outreach during the redesign process, but with gaps in neighborhoods west of Broad Street like Strawberry Mansion , Brewerytown -Sharswood, Nicetown - Tioga , and Fairmount . The areas range from more affluent, to gentrifying, to historically disinvested.

While acknowledging the difficulty of making a budget-neutral plan, SEPTA officials maintain the result will still serve riders better than the current network does.

“It better allocates those limited resources of bus hours and miles to when people are using the system, said Deputy Chief Officer Colin Foley. “It’s no longer a 9-to-5 a.m./p.m. commute as much as it used to be.”

SEPTA has already made some changes to the December version of the plan, the fourth draft, in response to questions and concerns expressed in the recent round of meetings, officials said.

For instance, planners have committed to keeping Route 32 in its current alignment — a priority that Strawberry Mansion residents have pushed for over a number of months. The route had been marked for elimination.

Route 32 travels from Roxborough down to North Philadelphia, goes through Strawberry Mansion and Fairmount, serves the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and then proceeds down South Broad Street to South Philly .

Route 16 would be kept at its current alignment, running from Cheltenham, straight down Broad Street, to its end point at City Hall, Nemiroff said. The earlier proposal would have shortened it. Route 57 also would be kept as is, Nemiroff said.
