Videos by American Songwriter
The five-time Grammy Award-winning Wooten will be joined by brothers Joseph, Roy, and Regi Wooten on the tour, which kicks off on September 29 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and concludes in Buffalo, New York on October 14.
During his career, Victor Wooten has played with the likes of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones (as a founding member), Chick Corea, Dave Matthews Band, India Arie, Keb’ Mo’, and Cory Wong.
Joseph Wooten has been the keyboardist for the Steve Miller Band and has worked with Whitney Houston, George Clinton, Kenny G, and more. Roy Wooten is also a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Regi is a bass-playing pioneer who has been compared to countless artists from Jimi Hendrix to Chuck Berry.
According to a press statement, “Together The Wooten Brothers bring an uncanny level of experience, originality and expertise to the stage. Playing together since childhood, the formidable group has shared stages with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, Ramsey Lewis, Stephanie Mills, War, and others.”
“Being in a band with my brothers is the best thing for me,” says Victor in a statement. “It’s like a family reunion every time we get together to play. They are my teachers and I feel most at home with them.”
This will be the brothers’ first tour together as a band since the death of their saxophone-playing brother Rudy several years ago. In the next year, The Wooten Brothers will release their first studio album in several decades.
“The music we are working on at the moment is a collection of new and old,” adds Victor. ‘We have songs that were recorded decades ago that have never been heard by anyone. We also have newer music that was recorded over the last year. It will be a nice collection of old and new. With the older music, we want to introduce the world to Rudy, our saxophone-playing brother who passed away in 2010. Be prepared to have your mind blown.”

The Power Station Tour resumes in February featuring support from Victor Wooten
GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter, producer, and guitarist extraordinaire Cory Wong has shared THE POWER STATION TOUR (WEST COAST) , an all-new collection captured live on stage during his biggest US headline tour thus far. Recorded last November in a variety of iconic venues across the country, the 19-track album sees Wong joined by singer-songwriter mandolinist Sierra Hull and singer Robbie Wulfsohn (of Ripe) for a spectacular set that expertly showcases the tour’s singular energy and collective spirit. THE POWER STATION TOUR (WEST COAST) is available now at all DSPs and streaming services.
“ I’m a LIVE guy, ” says Cory Wong. “ I love the energy of live shows and that’s really where my band shines. There’s something special about a group of 10 musicians on stage giving it everything they’ve got with a packed room of people giving that energy right back. My live show is a balance of highly arranged material with jumping points that give ample room for exploration night after night. This album is a collection of our favorite journeys through each song. ”

General Admission Standing Room with Limited Seating Victor, bass guitar/vocals; Joseph, keyboards/vocals; Roy, percussion/vocals; and Regi, guitars/vocals. For over four decades the Wooten Brothers have been recognized as some of the most innovative musicians in existence and are collectively known as one of the most talented and dynamic band of brothers the world has ever known. Since they were young, the five brothers have been a musical tour-de-force redefining the limits of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock, and bluegrass. Sons of military parents, their early years were spent living in different states including Hawaii, California, and Virginia where they shared stages with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, Ramsey Lewis, Stephanie Mills, War, and other artists. In the mid 80’s, the brothers released an album as The Wootens for Clive Davis’ Arista Records. This will be the brother’s first tour together as a band since the untimely death of their saxophone-playing brother Rudy a few years ago.
Victor Wooten, a five-time Grammy Award-winning artist, has graced the cover of Bass Player Magazine five times. He is a founding member of the eclectic group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and is recognized as one of the greatest living bassist today often drawing comparisons to Jaco Pastorius, and was named one of the “Top ten bassist of all time”by Rolling Stone Magazine. He is also an award-nominated author, naturalist, and music educator and has been running his unique music/nature camps since the year 2000. Wooten’s camps are held at his own Wooten Woods, which is just outside of Nashville. In 2010, he started his own record label, Vix Records, which has released a series of acclaimed recordings over the last few years.
Joseph Wooten has a dizzying list of talents that is impressive even by the Wooten clan’s standards. Currently the keyboardist for the Steve Miller Band (since 1993), he is also a composer, orchestrator, motivational speaker, and has been showcased as an amazing vocalist since he was a child. In 1981, Joseph became known as the “overnight accordion player” when he literally auditioned, bought an accordion, and began performing within a matter of a few days for the Busch Gardens amusement park in Williamsburg, VA. He has collaborated with the likes of Whitney Houston and Kenny G, and when not touring with Miller, leads his own band, performs with Freedom Sings, and even helps out his little brother as keyboardist, vocalist, and composer for The Victor Wooten Band. Roy “Futureman” Wooten, also a five-time Grammy Award winner, is best known for his masterful drumming and percussion skills and is a founding member Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Roy, a seasoned drum set player, is mostly known for his frenzied, inimitable on-stage performances heightened by his surreal choice of instruments: his trademark inventions “The Drumitar” and “RoyEl” keyboard. He is also a philosopher, researcher, filmmaker, and educator. His impressive solo career and “Black Mozart” projects scan the genres of classical, jazz, soul, gospel, and spoken word.
Regi Wooten’s signature guitar style of chording, slapping, tapping and frenzied strumming has earned him world-wide notoriety and comparisons to Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and Chuck Berry. In recent years, Regi has performed with many artists including the legendary Ginger Baker. Regi, known worldwide as “The Teacher”, currently teaches music in Nashville, TN and has taught many notable musicians. He was teaching his little brothers Joseph and Victor when he himself was only 9 years old. One of his early, but lasting contributions was the composition of his and his brother’s high school Alma Mater.

Victor Wooten Performs Bass Concerto Alongside L.A. Phil At Walt Disney Concert Hall
It’s not every day that an electric bassist takes the lead with a major city’s symphony orchestra—but Victor Wooten is no ordinary bassist. Between two weekend performances with the Thomas Wilkins -conducted Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA., the five-time Grammy winner—perhaps best known for his work with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones —took his own symphonic composition, La Leccion Tres , out for a stroll with nearly 50 different instruments behind him. The three-part concerto proved to be a rich tapestry combining orchestral grandeur with jazzy funk jams, with a sprinkling of lighthearted humor to tie it all together.
Before Wooten took the stage in his signature cap, the LA Phil, with Wilkins at the podium, regaled the crowd with its first-ever rendition of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor ’s Ballade in A Minor, Op. 33 , followed by Leonard Bernstein ’s symphonic dances from West Side Story —snaps from the orchestra included.
Those pieces proved to be prescient warmups for Wooten’s genre-bending display of musicianship. With his two Fodera basses in tow—his “yinyang” bass and his custom piece that allows for cello-like bowing—the Idaho native-turned-Nashvillian guided the audience through his 12-bar-based odyssey.
The opening movement was much like any concerto, albeit with an electric bass carrying the melody across multiple octaves. Wooten blended his abilities beautifully with the array of woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion at his back. In switching between his Foderas (and the disparate means by which he played them), the youngest of the five Wooten brothers spiced up the proceedings while highlighting his aim to draw classical music and jazz fusion into a single fold.
That all set the stage for the second movement, wherein Wooten’s talents truly shined. At one point, the rest of the LA Phil all but faded out, leaving the man of the hour to tap and slap his way through a bass solo that bordered on mind-altering in its own right. It was here that he laid down his bona fides as one of the greatest bassist of all time, as previously proclaimed by Bass Player magazine and Rolling Stone .
With the third movement, Wooten and the LA Phil lent a smidgen of jazz-like levity to proceedings. Before the music began, Thomas acted as though he’d lost control of the bass section and couldn’t make sense of the music—even going so far as to flip the sheet music upside down in a bit of slapstick. At that point, Wooten stepped up to play the part of orchestral savior. His custom bass and bow at the ready, he guided the stand-up bassists in the philharmonic through the early portions of the movement, bit by bit. Once “back on track,” the concerto continued apace, to and through a riveting finale that saw every player in the orchestra come together in collective triumph.

By the end, Wooten had succeeded in what he had initially set out to do when he wrote La Leccion Tres just prior to the COVID lockdowns that delayed its debut. That is, he connected diverse musical styles nearly seamlessly, with his basses serving both to connect genres and draw in a variety of curious spectators. In doing so, he only further burnished his credentials as a virtuoso, apart from and beyond Béla Fleck and his own brothers. The musical world can only hope that he will have many more “lessons” to share in the coming years.
Victor Wooten will return to the road with The Wooten Brothers in May for a run of European tour dates before returning to the states for their summer tour. For a full list of shows and to purchase tickets, head here .
