Regent Dining
By flossie009 , December 26, 2020 in Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Recommended Posts
On recent threads there have been various questions and discussions about dining on board so I thought I would try to summarise the various options.
These are from our memories of sailing on the various Regent ships pre-covid shutdown.
If anything is incorrect or missing I am sure other frequent cruisers will chime in.
EXPLORER & SPLENDOR
Breakfast (times dependant on port arrival time but generally open from 6am):
- Pool Grill - Fitness Breakfast
- Compass Rose - waiter service; full hot & cold menu
- La Veranda - extensive hot & cold buffet plus egg station for cooked to order (a sample menu is on the Regent website )
- Room Service - may be ordered the night before by filling out a breakfast card & hanging outside suite door. Served in the room or on the balcony with full set-up including table linen
- Coffee Connection - fruit, cereal, cold cuts etc
On Sundays there is the added option of caviar & champagne in Compass Rose and La Veranda
Lunch (times vary) (Sample lunch menus for some venues are available on the Regent website 😞
- Pool Grill - Daily specials plus burgers, hot-dogs, salads etc
- Speciality restaurants - on sea days both Prime 7 & Chartreuse are open with lunch menus. On port days one or other will be open for lunch - no reservations are required for lunch - Pacific Rim does not open for lunch
- La Veranda - extensive hot & cold buffet plus pizza station
- Compass Rose - this restaurant does not open for lunch on Explorer or Splendor; apart from when there is a Sunday at sea, when an extravagant & extensive Sunday Brunch will be staged.
Note: on embarkation day only the Pool Grill & La Veranda are open for lunch
Dinner (6:30pm - 9:30pm) (sample dinner menus are available for all venues on the Regent website 😞
- Compass Rose - open seating - daily specials plus extensive “always available” menu
- Sette Mari at La Veranda - " Italian " cuisine - part waiter service, part buffet
- Pool Grill - casual dining (the only venue where the evening dress code does not apply)
- Chartreuse - reservations required - “ French ” cuisine
- Pacific Rim - reservations required - “ Asian & Pan-Asian ” cuisine
- Prime 7 - reservations required - American Steakhouse
- Room Service - during restaurant dinner hours, dishes from the Compass Rose menu may be ordered for service in your suite
VOYAGER & MARINER
- as Explorer, above
Lunch (Sample lunch menus are available on the Regent website )
- La Veranda - extensive hot & cold buffet plus pizza station
- Compass Rose - waiter service - the lunch menu includes dishes from the Explorer speciality restaurant lunch menus and from the Pacific Rim dinner menu
- as Explorer; but without Pacific Rim
- as Explorer
- as Voyager & Mariner
- as Explorer; but without Pacific Rim & Chartreuse; the only speciality restaurant being Prime 7
In addition, on all ships:
- Afternoon Tea is served daily in one of the lounges - scones, sandwiches & cakes served with tea, coffee ……… and/or a drink from the bar
- Coffee Connection is open all day (until 6pm?) for cold snacks
- a room service menu is available 24 hours (a sample menu is on the Regent website )
- If they have the ingredients on board, & given 24/48 hrs notice, the chef will be pleased to prepare any dish you may desire; from liver & bacon to a full Indian feast
- Occasionally if the ship is in port for the evening, & weather conditions are suitable, an extravagant evening Deck BBQ party may be held. In this case the speciality restaurants will be closed on that evening.
I hope this helps those new to Regent; and remember that all the dining options are included in the cruise fare 😀

Let us hope that when the ships start sailing, and before the dreaded covid has been eliminated from the world, we are not faced with a dining experience as depicted in this short vignette:
Thanks Flossie for your helpful summary. We are more curious about dinners. Booked on Explorer November 2021. Will you please give your personal opinion on specialty restaurants(rating) and difficulty/ease of booking (we are booked Concierge, so no butler) . There will be 6 of us (3 couples)
Really appreciate your input

TY for the extensive dining descriptions. We'll be on the Mariner for an AK cruise which includes two Sundays. One is at sea and the other is cruising the Glacier. Does anyone know if the latter is considered a sea day because of no port or would there be no extensive Sunday brunch that day?
I really enjoy caviar. 😁
Caviar & champagne is an option every Sunday breakfast on all ships in Compass Rose & La Veranda - whether at sea or in port.
The Sunday Sea Day Brunch is only on Explorer & Splendor; but only once per cruise segment even if there are two Sundays at sea.

All three speciality restaurants on Explorer are very good; serving delicious food in elegant surroundings. We like to have at least one meal in each per cruise, but forced to give a preference would put them in the order Pacific Rim, Chartreuse and then Prime 7. However, food & drink is so subjective that others would no doubt put them in a different order.
Compass Rose has the most extensive & varied menu on board so we enjoy dining in there most evenings.
Our least favourite restaurant is Sette Mari, but others rave about the venue. If you enjoy eating under the stars then the outside deck of Sette Mari is for you (if not too windy)
We have never tried the casual dining at the Pool Grill for dinner.
4 hours ago, docmark said: difficulty/ease of booking
90 days before your cruise you will be able to make one reservation in each of the three speciality restaurants. I believe your cruise comprises two segments so you may find that you are able to pre-book once in each restaurant for each segment.
If you wish to dine with the other couples in your party, agree times & dates before and have their booking numbers to hand when you book your dining on line.
The ability to share may be restricted immediately post Covid; any problems simply ring the Regent office and they will assist.
To make further reservations when on board, simply call in to the Dining Reservations desk (near Reception from memory) or telephone from your suite.
Given the length of you cruise, you should have no difficulty getting further reservations; particularly if you remain flexible on timing.
There is no preferential treatment for reservations apart from the occupants of Grand Suites & above.
Being a party of six, it is probably worth making contact with the Food & Beverage Manager in the first few days of the cruise. He/she will be able to help with any special arrangements for your group.

Amazon Prime gives us access to "The Goes Wrong Show". It's so funny. I don't think we have this episode yet, but I'll look for it. But dining on Splendor next September is something I don't want to think about at this point.

Thanks Susan for the great dining recap. So glad you corrected my erroneous comment about Compass Rose being open for lunch on embarkation day. I thought at one time that was true but you are so right, it isn't
I agree with your ranking of the specialities though we do enjoy going to Sette Mari. Maybe not as much since the new menu was introduced in Compass Rose a few years ago. We still go at least once or twice on any cruise over 20 days just for the variety. As well we haven't tried dining at the Pool Grill for dinner.

🤔 My memory is probably also failing but I think Compass Rose may be open at lunch on changeover day, but only for those guests continuing from one segment to the next (on Voyager, Mariner & Navigator) 🤔 - but perhaps that is only on Grand Voyages & the World Cruises?
Also, there are sometimes groups of local Travel Agents being entertained in Compass Rose on changeover day.

We enjoyed CR for changeover day lunches several times - don't think it was only on our Grand Voyage or World Cruise.
The summary of the restaurants is great, thank you.
One thing that is nice, especially for us on a day when we get back from a morning excursion and want something from the pool grill and not wanting to sit outside in the pool grill. Get a table in La Veranda and note the table number, then go to the pool grill and order what you want and give them your number. It's a great way to cool down inside. You will see that their hot dogs are also very popular.

This is enjoyable, however I don't really understand why they can't do it on all ships.

Seven Seas Voyager Restaurants
There are five excellent Seven Seas Voyager restaurants, including the outstanding Chartreuse restaurant. This review explains what makes them so good.
In this review
- Dining ratings
- Chartreuse – the best restaurant at sea
- Compass Rose
- The Veranda
- The Pool Grill
All the Seven Seas Voyager restaurants are great, but some are exceptional. In particular, the French restaurant called Chartreuse which I rate as the best restaurant at sea. Seven Seas Voyager has five restaurants:
- Chartreuse.
- Compass Rose.
- The Veranda.
- The Pool Grill.
Chartreuse – the best restaurant at sea
Chartreuse is one of two specialty dining venues. Indeed, it is a quintessentially French restaurant with a chic decor and, most importantly, sublime food. What’s more, I rate Chartreuse as the best restaurant at sea.
As you might expect, the menu is boldly French. Indeed, this fine dining restaurant revels in the best of haute cuisine such as tempting hor d’oeuvres like Emmenthal-Blue Cheese Souffle, Steak Tartare with Sturgeon Caviar and Escargots a la Bourguignonne.
There is a small but delightful soups course with an astoundingly good Cream of Artichoke. In fact, I can say without reservation that it was the best soup I’ve tasted in all my years on cruise ships.
The Chartreuse main course includes a divine Roasted Lobster Tail with Scallop Mousse, Asparagus & Almond Broth. I also enjoyed the Dover Sole which is prepared table-side. In addition, the Chartreuse restaurant serve a heavenly Rack of Lamb as well as Milk Fed Veal Fillet with Apple Confit, Bacon, Prunes and a Port Wine Sauce.
The Chartreuse restaurant is open nightly from 6:30pm, however it is worth noting that reservations are required. It is one of the most popular Seven Seas Voyager restaurants so I recommend making your booking online prior to your cruise.
Prime 7 is the other specialty Seven Seas Voyager restaurant, however it is entirely different to Chartreuse. It is an American-style steakhouse serving mostly grilled meats and seafood.
There are crisp white tablecloths and high-back leather chairs as well as themed artwork on the walls. It’s all very smart, however I can’t help feeling it’s overly familiar. Indeed, these up-market surf-and-turf restaurants seem to have spread like wildfire across almost all the World’s luxury cruise ships in recent years.
That said, the meat and seafood served in Prime 7 is very good. Appetizers include Ahi Tuna and Avocado Tower as well as a Foie Gras Slider. I especially enjoyed the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake – it was bursting with flavour.
There are prime steaks for main course including Porterhouse and Bone-In Rib Eye, as well as Fillet Mignon. In addition there is lamb, veal pork and poultry too. It’s worth noting that all of these cuts are large – up to 510 gm / 18 oz.
If you prefer a smaller portion Prime 7 have a Small Plates Menu with scaled down meat cuts weighing no more than 170 gm / 6 oz.
Prime 7 have a petit dessert menu, in fact there are just four sweet treats. There is a 14-layer Chocolate Cake and a Caramel Popcorn Sundae, but I recommend the Key Lime Pie. I think it is the perfect way to finish a surf-and-turf dinner.
Prime 7 is open for dinner only, from 6:30pm. Also, you do need to make reservations and as it is one of the more popular Seven Seas Voyager restaurants I recommend booking your table online prior to your cruise.
Compass Rose is the main Seven Seas Voyager restaurant. It is also a beautiful dining room with ornate chandeliers and a chic Parisian decor. The cuisine is equally inspiring and the chefs consistently present some of the best tasing dishes at sea.
The four-course menu in Compass Rose is mostly European. In fact it has a distinctly French feel. There are classic starters including Caviar as well as delightful soups and exceptional main courses. I especially enjoyed the lobster tail which was grilled to perfection.
However, one of the real treats is being able to order off-menu. Indeed, the chefs in Compass Rose can cook almost anything your heart desires. Simply let the maître d’ know a day in advance and your wish is their command. For instance, one evening the chefs prepared an Indian feast for me which included one of the best shrimp curries I’ve ever tasted.
The service in Compass Rose is generally good, however when I sailed it was patchy on some evenings.
The Compass Rose restaurant can get busy, so occasionally there maybe a short wait for a table. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dinner service commences at 6:30pm. You do not need to make reservations.
The Veranda is a relaxed, buffet restaurant with lovely ocean views as well as a small teak terrace for al fresco dining.
It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At breakfast there is a traditional buffet spread of hot and cold options – in fact it is the most popular breakfast spot onboard. At lunch time the buffet offers antipasti and salads as well as lobster, jumbo shrimps, roasted meats and fish.
However, in the evening The Veranda becomes Sette Mari at La Veranda – a relaxed Italian-style restaurant. In fact it is part buffet, part á la carte , which I think is an interesting concept. The first course – antipasti – is served from the buffet, while the remainder of the meal is served á la carte .
The menu is classic Italian with Soups and Pasta followed by s econdi – the main course – with dishes like Mediterranean Sea Bass and Veal Scaloppini. There are also desserts including Panna Cotta and Tiramisu as well as a lovely Chocolate & Almond Cake.
The Veranda is open for breakfast from 7:00am to 10:00am, lunch from noon to 2:00pm, as well as dinner from 6:30pm. You don’t need to make reservations.
The Pool Grill is the most casual of all the Seven Seas Voyager restaurants. It’s located poolside so you can enjoy a bite after sunbathing or swimming.
It is an al fresco venue with ample shade so you can dine in comfort. The menu includes burgers, grilled fish and hot dogs as well as toasted sandwiches, nachos and salads.
The Pool Grill is open daily for breakfast from 6:30am and for lunch from 11:00am. Reservations are not required.

Seven Seas Voyager Itineraries
Seven seas voyager review, review of seven seas voyager.
The 2003-built Seven Seas Voyager cruise ship is the third-oldest of the RSSC-Regent boats, preceded by the "old-timers" Navigator (1999) and Mariner (2001).
The vessel (IMO number 9247144) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311513000) and registered in Nassau .
History - construction and ownership
Regent Cruises (officially Regent Seven Seas Cruises / RSSC ) is an all-inclusive, top-luxury cruise brand fka "Radisson Seven Seas". Until 2014, the company (as part of "Prestige Cruise Holdings") was owned by Apollo Management LP - one of the world's largest private investment equity funds. Since September 2014, RSSC and the sister company Oceania Cruises are owned by NCL Norwegian (shipowner), acquired at the total cost of USD 3 billion. Regent cruise ships are medium-sized, with capacity up to 800 passengers. The fleet consists of 6-star rated all-suite and all-balcony vessels with a space-to-guest ratio around 70 and staff-to-guest ratio 1-to-1,6 (some of industry's best). As building cost per berth , RSSC liners are among the world's most expensive ships.
The 700-passenger ship Seven Seas Voyager was the second 100% balcony 100% suite cruise ship in the world, following Seven Seas Mariner. It isn't just about the quick service, the inspired voyages or the outstanding celebrity lecturers, but also the fact that this is a cruise liner with a big personality. Where else are passengers going to find a captain who reads poetry over the public address system together with the weather and navigation reports? Or fiercely social cruisers - like "a family afloat," as one repeat traveler frames it - who return to Seven Seas Voyager cruise ship year after year, in large part to spend time together?
Decks and Cabins
Seven Seas Voyager staterooms (353 total, in 13 Suite categories) are all (100%) with private step-out balconies. The largest accommodations are the Master Suites (on decks 7 and 11) ranging in sizes 1150-1220 ft2 (107-113 m2) with terrace sized 185 ft2 (17 m2). The lowest cabin category (Deluxe Suite) costs ~3 times less in comparison to Master Suite’s rates.
The boat has 12 decks , of which 9 are passenger-accessible and 6 with cabins.
Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks
Compass Rose restaurant is the main dining room on Seven Seas Voyager. It functions on an open seating basis and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner without set dining assignments. La Veranda is the ship's daytime buffet, serving breakfast and lunch. In the evening it is transformed into a bistro serving Mediterranean cuisine. The specialty steakhouse restaurant "Prime 7" is free of charge but requires reservations for dinner. Dinner is served alfresco on Voyager's pool deck at least once during each cruise. Another choice for casual lunch is the poolside grill. Dinner can be ordered from the MDR menu during restaurant hours to be served en suite.
Follows the complete list of Seven Seas Voyager restaurants and food bars.
- Compass Rose (main dining room restaurant, open-seating breakfast, lunch and dinner; features European Continental dishes and alternative choices - vegetarian, specialties from the Spa menu, select dishes from Regent's Chartreuse menu with gourmet French cuisine)
- Signatures (French specialty restaurant, dinner-only, reservations-only) in 2016 was replaced by RSSC's new Chartreuse restaurant with traditional French cuisine).
- Pool Grill (fast food bar, poolside; serves the pool deck area)
- Prime 7 (reservations-only dinner restaurant with American Steakhouse menu)
- La Veranda / Sette Mari (casual dining venue; operates as ship’s self-service buffet restaurant; in the evenings, the buffet transforms into “Sette Mari” Italian dinner restaurant, complimentary).
Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport
With its shiny, Scandinavian-inspired interior, Seven Seas Voyager cruise ship has an old-school sensibility. It is not showy, it is understated. There are no Aloha Deck or Fiesta Deck there - simply deck number 4, number 5 and so on. There is also a clubby feel, in part because Seven Seas Voyager cruise liner offers praised beverages - from diet Coke to Chivas Regal - at all its lounges and bars. A lot of the suites also have butlers.
Follows the complete list of Seven Seas Voyager lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens and adults.
- Constellation Theater (2-deck high main show lounge for grand music and show productions; also features “Cirque Rock ‘n Roll” aerial acrobatics spectacle)
- Atrium (8-deck high open-floor area)
- Club.com (Internet computers room); Library
- Connoisseur Club (smoking lounge with comfortable leather armchairs; offers hand-rolled Cuban cigars)
- Card Rooms (hosts bridge tournaments and lectures)
- Voyager Lounge (disco nightclub; operates as a piano bar during the day with resident pianist performances)
- Coffee Connection (specialty coffee and patisserie bar)
- Horizon Lounge (with a large dance floor; hosts daily trivia shows and offers Afternoon Tea)
- Observation Lounge (grand piano bar with live music performances in the evenings)
- The Boutique (duty-free shopping arcade: luxury jewelry, precious stones, brand perfumes, watches, designer clothes, accessories, gifts, souvenirs, Regent-logo wear)
- Casino (with 2 sections: for the slot machines, and for the gaming tables)
- Voyager Pool area (with a large swimming pool, 2 Whirlpools, sunbathing area with loungers, tennis tables, seating area; served by the Pool Bar)
- Canyon Ranch SpaClub and Wellness Center (Treatment Rooms, Saunas, Steam Rooms, Relaxation Room. The Centre includes ship’s Beauty Salon, Gym and Aerobics Studio)

- The Top Deck (Power Walking/Jogging Track; sports court: mini-golf putting green; Golf Net; Shuffleboard; Paddle Tennis court).

Seven Seas Voyager Wiki
Regent Voyager ship was built in Genoa Italy and is the line's second vessel providing ultra-inclusive "big yacht" luxury cruise vacation experiences. Her fleet mates are the Regent ships Mariner and Navigator , and the new Explorer (2016).
On September 2, 2014, NCL Norwegian purchased the company "Prestige Cruise Holdings" (owner of Oceania Cruises and RSSC) for USD 3,025 billion, thus becoming the official owner of all vessels in both fleets.
In mid-April 2016, RSSC announced upgraded fares adding free international flights to all 2017-2018 voyages. These roundtrip air travel deals (business class) were added to company's signature (standard) all-inclusive package - wines, spirits, soda, water, unlimited internet, free shore excursions, prepaid gratuities, pre-post cruise hotel stays and transfers. The air-inclusive cruise deals involved international flights leaving from 26 cities (the USA and Canada), regardless of the suite category booked.
Apollo Group provides all RSSC ships with the entire onboard hotel product and services. This includes administration, food staff (preparation and serving), housekeeping staff, also the vessel's provisioning and crewing. Other cruise lines served by Apollo are Thomson UK (Marella Cruises) and Oceania .
