After watching an epic day of golf and soaking in the sunshine, ocean breeze and salty air, spectators made their way to the front lawn for a concert with country music’s @thompsonsquare. The vibes around town are going crazy over this first-year event - The Myrtle Beach Classic. Saturday 3:44 PM | Classic Chronicles: Patience Pays Off   These kids waited patiently as finishing golfers worked their way down the autograph line. Their perseverance paid off just a moment later as the pride of St. John’s University, Ryan McCormick, happily obliged and spent a few moments with these appreciative kids.   McCormick shot a 2-under 69 to finish the day at 8-under. When you play each of your first three rounds under par and get welcomed by a group of appreciative young fans, you’ve got plenty of reason to smile! ...

Saturday 3:30 PM | Classic Chronicles: Double Trouble for the Wallace-Fox Pairing at 18   The Dunes Club’s finishing hole is claiming its share of victims. This time, it was both members of the 11:15 AM pairing of England’s Matt Wallace and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox.   Each found the woods with their final tee shot of the day. Wallace had no play to the green, and had to pitch out to attempt his up-and-down from the fairway. His third shot found the front rough, requiring a chip and recovery putt for bogey. Wallace retrieved his ball from the cup and tossed it in the pond in disgust.   Fox had the slightest of clearings with his second-shot approach, made it through but found the front right bunker. He couldn’t convert the up-and-down, and likewise had to settle for bogey. ...

Saturday 1:50 PM | Classic Chronicles: Smiling Silverman When you finish birdie-birdie-birdie-par on Moving Day, you’ve got plenty of reason to smile. And as Ben Silverman walked off 18 today tied for 2nd at 11-under, he was more than happy to shared the good vibes with these young autograph seekers near the clubhouse. Silverman’s one of 12 golfers right now currently at double-digit strokes below par. The action is most definitely heating up this afternoon at The Dunes Club.

Saturday 11:03 AM | Classic Chronicles: Agronomy Team’s Myrtle Beach Roots Running Wide & Deep   We’re standing behind 14 green with Jim Huntoon and a small group of Horry Georgetown Technical College Golf & Sports Turf Management students. Levi Crapps, Tyler Reid and Blaise Moyer are listening and watching as Huntoon imparts his wisdom. He’s their associate professor, leading a total HGTC student group of 18 this week that’s contributing to the Myrtle Beach Classic agronomy team in a variety of roles.   And it’s the true definition of TEAM here this week. PGA TOUR personnel and Dunes Club agronomy chief Steve Hamilton lead a total team of 50 local golf industry members on any given day of the Classic. It includes the agronomy heads of Grande Dunes Resort Course (Stephen Drews), Oyster Bay (Josh Schumacher), Heritage Club (Shawn Keller) and Blackmoor (Andy Traynham).   It also includes four equipment technicians here this week from industry leading companies (JRM Inc. and Toro STI), plus local tracks Blackmoor and the four-course Barefoot Resort & Golf represented by Aaron Rich.   Huntoon sits down for a quick chat with Rich, whose own family roots in Myrtle Beach golf run deep (dad Mike Rich works at Eagle Nest and goes back to the days of Bay Tree Resort and Possum Trot; brother Drew Rich is the super at Crow Creek and a former student of Huntoon). As the longtime agronomy chief at Heritage prior to joining the HGTC faculty, Huntoon takes this moment with Rich to touch on one of an endless supply of course maintenance topics to which the two can relate.   It’s a quiet moment in a week otherwise filled with heavy activity. And it’s a moment for Huntoon to take great pride in the contributions his local colleagues and students are making. He’s especially proud of the fact that 30-35 HGTC grads represent this team on any given day.   The overwhelmingly positive reactions of players and fans to the Dunes Club’s impeccable turf conditions are the ultimate validation of this team’s effort. Well done, team. ...

Saturday 9:30 AM | Classic Chronicles: Welcome to Round 3   We’re not saying it’s Magnolia Lane. But for golf fans attending the Myrtle Beach Classic this weekend, we’ll swear it’s our own little slice of welcoming heaven.   The crowds are expected to swell even more today, with some 11,500 spectators in attendance. The morning arrivals are being greeted right now by mostly sunny skies, 65 degrees (climbing to a high of 72), and a light breeze coming off the shore.   And each fan entering through this gateway is greeted by the rich, blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean nearby.   Hat … sunscreen … tickets … Check.   We’re ready for a memorable, spectacular day. ...

Saturday 9:00 AM | Classic Chronicles: A Wild Ride We’ve been following George’s story for some time now, and over the last two months we have seen the highs and lows of what competitive golf brings. From The Q at Myrtle Beach to The Myrtle Beach Classic, it’s been a wild ride, and in some ways George and others have helped trail blaze what the future of golf may look like. While the scorecard might not show the number George and others wanted, there is no denying the impact @bryanbrosgolf has on the game of golf. And that impact is GAME CHANGING. Over the week, we were able to see first-hand that impact. From hosting a Mini Golf Championship for 100 fans on Tuesday night, to captivating the audience in interviews with the media on Wednesday, to cheers and crowds that followed his every move, there is no denying the impact George brought this week. I can’t imagine the pressure George must have felt. All eyes were on him, and every family member from every corner of the earth seemed to be in attendance. His baby girl got to see daddy play on TOUR for the first time. His 38-week pregnant wife, Mills, followed every step for all 36 holes. The Myrtle Beach community hopes that despite the scorecard, you will always remember this week. Ultimately, that is why The Golf Capital of the World exists: To Create Memories That Last A Lifetime His southern charm and easy-going personality are contagious and we can all agree the game of golf is better with George Bryan IV part of it. Until we see you again ✌🏼

About the Golf Course

18 challenging holes and stunning scenery.

Nestled among the rolling hills of the Palouse sits the historic University of Idaho Golf Course. Originally designed by Francis L. James and constructed in 1936, our golf course boasts a rich history and stunning scenery. Our panoramic vistas and the university’s arboretum create a backdrop that changes with the seasons from emerald green to amber gold.

Our uniquely challenging course offers a variety of shots, from uneven lies to elevated and recessed greens. The front nine provides scoring opportunities, featuring three par-5s in an open grassland venue. The back nine tightens up into a narrow parkland theme, including two difficult par-3s. The round concludes by running a gauntlet of three challenging holes known by locals as "Heartbreak Ridge."

Course Policies

  • No alcohol on course.
  • Each player must have their own set of clubs.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn on course.
  • No radio or music on course.
  • Children under five must stay in golf cart.
  • All yardages are measured to the center of the green.
  • No more than five minutes break at turn.
  • Pace of play should not exceed 2 hours 15 minutes per nine holes.
  • Please repair all ball marks and maintain pace of play.

Rare sighting of northern lights illuminates the home of golf, jack's place, more, share this article.

the world tour golf course

The skies over some of golf’s most famous cathedrals lit up this weekend in a fashion as rare a hole-in-one on a par 4.

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, glowed in brilliant purple, green, yellow and pink hues. The Old Course at St. Andrews, Jack’s Place at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, and Royal Liverpool, site of last year’s 151st British Open in England were among the courses far and wide to post stunning images with the night sky illuminated during the early hours of May 11.

According to USA Today , the powerful geomagnetic solar storm — the brightest in more than a decade — will persist throughout the weekend, offering another chance for many to catch the northern lights.

Thanks to the phenomena, some of our favorite courses have never looked so good. Here are some of the golf courses around the world that have posted photos.

PGA Championship 2024: Michael Block on his 'Year of Blockie' and what happens when your 15 minutes of fame are up

1491804379

Michael Block reacts after his shot from the 15th tee during the third round of the 2023 PGA Championship.

Kevin C. Cox

Michael Block has snuck into his office and he reminds himself to shut the door. This is his home, a room tucked away in the ranch-style clubhouse surrounded by the rolling foothills of Southern California. But Block prefers an open entryway so he can keep an eye on the assistants running Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club’s pro shop, to say hello to those checking in and to deliver a good-natured jab to the regulars. Yet Block has to be hidden now, after the “photo requests and autographs and conversations” made it impossible for the staff to get any work done. He’s uncomfortable being sequestered from “my guys,” but the door must remain closed.

That Block is rarely here makes the isolation harder. He rushed back from Frisco, Texas, where he competed at the Club Pro Championship, to be at Arroyo Trabuco’s two-day member-guest. It will be the only two days he’s at the club this month. He’ll get a week of practice and preparation before heading to Louisville for the PGA Championship, followed by a return to Texas for the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial, which he will play for the second straight season on a sponsor exemption. As Block recounts his itinerary he realizes, with a mix of incredulity and resignation, it’s been a year since he’s given a teaching lesson. Chasing a dream has made home a foreign place.

“It's been the best year of my life, and I wouldn’t change one thing about it. But it's very, very strange,” Block says. “To go from a nobody, a husband and father of two, then all of a sudden the golf’s world's watching every move I make, just the whole thing's been very odd.”

It was this time last May that Block captivated the golf world, the 46-year-old public course club pro with a friendly demeanor and self-deprecating humor contending at Oak Hill during the 2023 PGA Championship while winning over the crowds in Rochester and those watching from home. On a macro level there was something palliative about Block’s Cinderella success against the backdrop of the prevalent greed, entitlement and self-interest from professional golf’s civil war. In a micro sense, it was endearing to see a man have the time of his life in a moment he thought would never come.

This wonder crescendoed on Sunday, when Block, paired with Rory McIlroy, made a slam-dunk hole-in-one late on the back nine, a shot that left Block seemingly feigning disbelief as the gallery chanted his name. He made a nifty up-and-down for par at the final hole to finish tied for 15th, earning an invite into this year's PGA.

The “Block Party” was one of the feel-good stories of the year. Then the damndest thing happened. The party continued. Much, much longer than anyone—including Block—could expect.

1493411937

Michael Block, who was the low PGA professional, is congratulated by 2023 PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka at Oak Hill.

Ross Kinnaird

Block received two PGA Tour sponsor exemptions in the ensuing three weeks, with one of his rounds at Colonial receiving featured group coverage, and was given an invite into the Australian Open. After failing to qualify for the U.S. Open he was on the grounds of Los Angeles Country Club anyway, promoting Dewar’s Scotch whisky. There were countless other promotional events, including a hole-in-one challenge with Michelob and working a drive-thru shift at Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers restaurant. He was invited to Tiger Woods’ charity invitational, rubbed shoulders with Brooks Koepka, Max Homa and Bubba Watson. He still competed in his local PGA competitions—including winning the Southern California PGA Professional Championship—but he also became a fixture on the celebrity circuit. The 46-year-old “nobody” was suddenly receiving texts from Michael Jordan and hanging out with Hollywood stars.

“I literally spent a year living a dream, feeling like I just woke up from a dream. I'm like, no, I was just on FaceTime with [actor] Mark Wahlberg sitting next to [rapper] DJ Khaled having lunch in his backyard,” Block says. “And it makes no sense to me. But at the same time I've been going with it. One of the things that Khaled told me while sitting in his backyard was, ‘This is your year Blockie and don't say no to anything.’”

This guiding principle spurred a Block backlash of sorts. Inaccessibility to professional athletes has been a growing problem in sports, yet Block was perhaps too available. He did 30 interviews between Sunday at Oak Hill and a press conference two days later at Colonial, and he’s lost count of how many podcasts, interviews and videos he’s done since. A lot of those platforms aided Block’s popularity, amplifying his story and persona to a public that mostly couldn’t get enough. In that same breath, Block’s willingness to partake in the hagiography of his life could be construed as thirsty. This culture loves celebrities, but it doesn’t want its celebrities to want celebrity.

Provoking that agitation was Block’s response to a podcast host's question about the biggest difference between his game and Rory McIlroy’s. Block responded, “Oh my God. What I would shoot from where Rory hits it would be stupid. I think I'd be one of the best players in the world. Hands down. If I had that stupid length, all day. My iron game, wedge game, around the greens and my putting is world class.”

Never mind this is exactly the type of conviction needed by any golfer, let alone a club pro contending at a major championship. Block’s words were seen as cavalier and brash , sentiments that while celebrated in other sports are considered cardinal sins in golf.

Not helping was Block’s performance. He finished dead last the week after Oak Hill at the Charles Schwab Challenge and didn’t do much better at the RBC Canadian Open. In fact, of the eight PGA Tour starts Block made the past two seasons, Oak Hill was the only one where he made the cut. Without the game to back his story up, Block went from a scene stealer to side show. The line is thin and the standards are harsh, but that is the reality.

He was enjoying the spoils of his newfound stardom, but Block admits the negative reaction got to him.

“The hate part of it, the social media part got us nasty, man,” Block says. “I'm sure some people talk trash behind my back in my life, but I'm literally seeing people that hate me and I'm going, ‘What in the world did I ever do to this human being?’ I didn’t understand it. That was definitely the toughest part.

“I was trying to defend myself and trying to be like, ‘Hey, you don't know me.’ I remember I saw someone say, ‘I heard Michael doesn’t treat club pros well.’ Bro, I’m a club pro, what are you talking about? People just hate people just to do it and just to get likes and all this other stuff. So I understand that's what just kind of comes around with the territory in this world.”

1514008874

After his PGA Championship performance, Michael Block got numerous opportunities to play in pro events, and tried to qualify for the Open Championship.

Mark Runnacles/R&A

It’s worth remembering how unchartered this territory was for Block. He didn’t become a PGA member until 35 years old, too busy trying to get Arroyo Trabuco off the ground in the early-to-mid Aughts to worry about playing against fellow club pros and the opportunities that come with it. Eventually the Arroyo Trabuco regulars, who played against Block in a Tuesday morning money game, pushed him to get his PGA license to compete, and in his first year he won the PGA’s Professional Championship. Even before Oak Hill, Block had become something of a SoCal PGA legend; he’s won his district’s Player of the Year honor in 10 of the last 11 years. Still, the expanse between who he was to what he had become was wide, and he had to make that tightrope walk where every misstep was now noted.

If Block’s sensitive about the criticism, it’s because he’s a people-pleaser. It’s what got him into the club pro business. He loves being social, and loves that it’s his job to help make others happy. It’s why Block acted like such a showman in Rochester (although, he would like to add, he truly didn’t know he made that hole-in-one with Rory). Fans enjoy when he hams it up, and frankly, he does, too.

“I've noticed that I love the crowd,” Block says with a laugh, when answering what he’s learned about himself. “I really do. They really inspire me to hit better shots. I really love making putts, whether it's for a birdie part or bogey, I don't care. Just to have the crowd roar and to cheer for me, what a rush.”

And who could blame him? He was a regular guy being treated like royalty, so you’re damn right he was going to say “yes” to every opportunity. That many came with financial benefits didn’t hurt, but in truth, Block says he knew how ridiculous all this was, and also understood it had a shelf life. He didn’t want to view this once-in-a-lifetime stretch with regret.

Block gets that next week the "Year of Blockie" will likely conclude at Valhalla. What happened last spring hasn’t bestowed fantastical aspirations of winning the Wanamaker. Block simply wants to make the cut, and considering he owns a share of the Valhalla course record, he likes his chances. However, the Block Party’s one-year anniversary has allowed him to look through the window of the past. Block says he has watched the highlights from his final round at Oak Hill; when he ultimately returned to California, Escalade gifted him a car to use for the rest of the year (the company had a suite right next to his ace at the 15th), and preloaded on a TV headrest the broadcast from Rochester.

“It was surreal,” Block says. “I’m sitting in an SUV watching myself on television. Like, come on .” He also doesn’t need to watch it again.

“It’s imprinted in my head,” Block says. “I can’t tell you what I did yesterday. But I can tell you every shot, every interaction, every minute of that experience. I still remembering going into the merchandise tent early Saturday and there’s a huge reaction to me being there. Or at night, when me and my friends are having wine and beer and running up the largest bill I’ve ever seen, and some stranger took care of it for us. I remember everything, because I didn’t want it to end.”

The one thing that sticks out the most is a scene that happened across the country from Arroyo Trabuco’s clubhouse, moments after Block made his hole-in-one. That’s where Block’s family was, including his mom and dad and his sons. After the ace, the owner of the course jumped on a table and bought a round for everyone.

“Man, I started crying when I saw that watch party,” Block says. ‘I had no idea that watch party was happening when I played on that Sunday. When I got back, you know, all the servers, the line cooks, everyone in the restaurant was just like, you can tell that they look at me differently now 'cause they've seen me on the TV and watching that stuff.”

Now 47, Block never wanted to be staring down a six-footer to pay for his mortgage, and he’s not obtuse to his playing results post-Oak Hill. He’s wary of the road. He wants to be with his family, especially as his sons are becoming serious golfers. He’s looking forward to Valhalla where “I promise to take as many autographs and photos to anyone that asks,” Block says, “and to thank everyone for what they’ve given to me over the past year.”

But he knows who he is and where he belongs. Michael Block wants to be home, preferably with the door open.

2024 PGA Championship Field Includes Tiger Woods, All of World's Top 100 Players

John schwarb | may 7, 2024.

Apr 14, 2024; Augusta, Georgia, USA; Tiger Woods walks onto the 18th green during the final round of

The field is out for next week’s PGA Championship, and as expected the top 100 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are all on the list.

Actually, the top 103 in the world are in the 156-player field for Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., as well as a couple of intriguing names at No. 644 and No. 801 in the world.

No. 801 is Tiger Woods, the four-time PGA champion who won in 2000 at Valhalla in a thrilling playoff over Bob May. Woods set the consecutive-cuts-made record last month at the Masters before fading on the weekend to 60th, but left Augusta National optimistic for the rest of the majors this season. He accepted a special exemption to the U.S. Open last week.

No. 644 is LIV Golf’s Talor Gooch, who confirmed his special exemption from the PGA of America on Monday via his social media. His spot appears to underline the PGA of America’s desire to have the strongest possible field in its major; Gooch was a three-time winner and LIV Golf’s player of the year in 2023.

LIV Golf’s David Puig and Dean Burmester also received exemptions. Puig has won twice on the Asian Tour in the last seven months and is 106th in the world, while Burmester won back-to-back DP World tour events to end 2023 and won on LIV last month in Miami.

There are 15 LIV golfers in the field. Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA champion, a three-time PGA winner overall and coming in off a win last week in Singapore. Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and Cameron Smith are other past major champions from LIV Golf in the field.

Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1 who won last month at the Masters, is scheduled to compete but is on baby watch at home with wife Meredith. He is skipping this week’s Wells Fargo Championship, a signature event on the PGA Tour.

As usual, the field also includes 20 PGA professionals who qualified via the annual PGA Professional Championship. The total PGA professional count is 21, as Michael Block returns after a T15 finish last year at Oak Hill which earned him a spot at Valhalla.

The winners of this week’s Wells Fargo and Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour will receive spots in the field if they’re not in already.

Below is the full field for the the PGA Championship, which is May 16-19.

Schedule announced for 2024 DP World Tour Qualifying School

The 2 024 DP World Tour Qualifying School schedule has been announced and includes five new venues, an increase in First Stage opportunities and a return to INFINITUM for its dramatic conclusion, as professionals and amateurs from across the world look to secure their place on golf’s Global Tour.

INFINITUM

Hopefuls will compete through three stages, as they look to add their name to a growing list of Major Champions, World Number Ones and Ryder Cup stars that have been produced at Qualifying School since its inception in 1976.

The Qualifying School will visit 15 venues from August to November and will once again conclude with Final Stage at Costa Dorada’s award-winning INFINITUM resort.

All five venues making their Qualifying School debuts will act as First Stage hosts, as the number of First Stage opportunities increases from nine to ten, giving additional players the chance to earn one of the DP World Tour cards on offer.

Golf Nazionale in Italy will make its Qualifying School bow fresh from hosting the Junior Ryder Cup last year, while Moonah Links is also a new venue and sees Qualifying School return to Australia for a third successive year. There are debuts on the schedule too for Golf de Léry Poses in France, Huddersfield Golf Club in England and Horsens Golfklub in Denmark.

Second Stage will take place across Spain, with the same four venues returning to the schedule; Desert Springs Resort in Almeria, Isla Canela Links in Huelva, Golf Las Pinaillas in Albacete and Fontanals Golf Club in Girona.

Mike Stewart, DP World Tour Qualifying School Director, said: “We’re excited to be able to share the full schedule for the 2024 DP World Tour Qualifying School, and we’re delighted to welcome our five new host venues.

“Increasing First Stage opportunities from nine to ten is an important change for 2024, as we hope to give more players the opportunity to clinch one of the coveted DP World Tour cards that are up for grabs.

“All 15 venues will provide a true test to those teeing it up and those that do come through the three-stage process will be ready to compete on the DP World Tour in 2025.

“INFINITUM has provided the perfect setting for Final Stage over the past five years, and we’re looking forward to returning there for a sixth time. It is a truly first-class venue and we’re grateful for their continued help and hospitality. It is a true highlight of our schedule.”

Joaquín Mora Bertrán, Deputy General Manager of Golf, Beach Club and F&B at INFINITUM, said: “We are delighted to welcome one of golf’s most exciting events back to INFINITUM.

“This is a very exciting time for INFINITUM, with major investment across the entire resort making the experience for visiting players, DP World Tour hopefuls and our members and residents even better.

“Earlier this year, we announced major improvements to the Lakes, and we are excited to see how the players react when they take on the renovated course – along with the equally enjoyable Hills - in November.

“Part of what makes INFINITUM the perfect stage for Qualifying School is the line-up of amenities on offer for golfers of all levels, from the new Callaway Fitting Studio to the nine-hole Ruins course where players can hone their skills.

“We look forward to working with the DP World Tour once again to make sure this unique event is as unforgettable as ever.”

The Final Stage of Qualifying School will take place at INFINITUM from November 8-13, 2024, where 156 players will compete over six rounds.

Each player will play two rounds at the Lakes Course and the Hills Course at INFINITUM, before the top 65 and ties play the final two rounds at the Lakes Course.

After six rounds, the leading 20 players and ties will earn DP World Tour playing privileges for 2025. This number has been reduced from the leading 25 players and ties that were awarded playing privileges last year as part of an overall review of DP World Tour playing categories.

Entries for the DP World Tour Qualifying School will open in June, with an official date yet to be confirmed.

Greg Norman, LIV Golf, Singapore

LIV Golf may soon have its own network of golf courses, similar to the Tournament Players Club (TPC) model employed by the PGA Tour .

The tour currently owns and operates 38 courses across its TPC network, with one of them—TPC Craig Ranch—playing host to this week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson . Many have or continue to host PGA Tour events, some open to the public while others are private.

TPC Sawgrass , the most famous of these courses, hosts The Players Championship every year. In 2020, TPC Harding Park in San Francisco became the first of its kind to host a major championship. Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship there.

Now, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, in an interview with Bloomberg, revealed he wants to bring this model to the tour he runs.

“Man United owns their stadium. Indian Premier League, they own their stadiums. NFL, they own their stadiums,” Norman explained.

Greg Norman, LIV Golf

“Think about LIV owning all its own golf courses, each team having a home venue and hosting. And now you can build out around that. It’s not just a golf course. You bring in education, hospitality, real estate, merchandise, management, and all these other different opportunities that the game of golf has to deliver to a community or to a region. We are going to be doing that.”

LIV Golf currently has 13 teams and employs a 14-event schedule. Theoretically, each team could purchase a golf course and host one event each year. Perhaps Rippers GC, an all-Australian squad led by Cameron Smith, could buy The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, which has hosted LIV Golf’s two most successful events over the past two years.

This year, Rippers GC prevailed in a playoff there, and given that they competed in their native countries, the crowd gave them overwhelming support.

Maybe Stingers GC, Louis Oosthuizen’s South African team that lost to Rippers GC last week, purchases property in their native country.

Cameron Smith, LIV Golf, Adelaide

Or perhaps another team expands somewhere else.

At any rate, LIV Golf has no sign of slowing down, as Norman hopes to bring events to even more countries in 2025 and beyond.

“The Philippines are very keen to get us there,” Norman added.

“Golf in the Philippines is doing very well. We are not just sports; we’re sports, entertainment, and culture. So no matter where we go in the world, we adjust what we need to deliver from an entertainment standpoint.”

Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore is hosting a LIV Golf event this week. Brooks Koepka leads by three shots , heading into the final round of his final event before the PGA Championship.

The circuit returns to the United States for two events, bookending the U.S. Open in June.

“Our product is received with open arms by many, but a few want to try and stop us for all the wrong reasons,” Norman added.

“They haven’t been able to sustain their position in the game of golf. What we have done brilliantly is inject more capital. Golf is finally looked upon as an asset class.”

What It Will Take to Win the Cognizant Founders Cup

Amy olson retires from lpga tour to focus on motherhood.

The LPGA’s 13 Founders would have loved Upper Montclair Country Club. The 100-year-old AW Tillinghast design tests the world’s best players in so many ways and will do so again as the Cognizant Founders Cup is contested at the venue for the third year in a row this week.

One of the few classic designs on the schedule, this historic venue has played host to three major professional tours. The first two editions of the Cognizant Founders Cup held at Upper Montclair did not disappoint. In 2022, Minjee Lee got to 19-under and won over a charging Lexi Thompson. Then, about a month later, she won the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club.

In her title defense last year, Lee lost in a playoff to Jin Young Ko. That was Ko’s third Founders Cup win in four years, and even though each of those wins came at different venues, Ko will definitely capture some attention in Clifton, N.J. With the LPGA Tour’s next major championship taking place in nearby Lancaster, Penn., these next two weeks in the Garden State will be critical preparation leading up to one of the most lucrative tournaments on the schedule.

Can Nelly Korda win six in a row? Upper Montclair is one of the few venues she has not yet conquered. Korda did not compete here in 2022 and missed the cut a year ago. But, she’s still the favorite by a large margin and will need to navigate this design better than she has in the past if she wants to make history. Northeast golf is much like what we saw in Los Anegles two weeks ago at Wilshire Country Club. The 144-player field will have to hit the fairways if they want to contend in New Jersey.

Korda, Brooke Henderson and Linn Grant lead the LPGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee this week at Upper Montclair. A complete comparison of driving skill this statistic evaluates length and accuracy, favoring length. Seven fairways at this venue bend left to right, and the other seven tee shots move right to left, meaning this tree-lined test should favor those who can hit fairways. The par 5s are very scorable, providing another advantage for our longest hitters.

Over the next two weeks in New Jersey, and leading into Lancaster for the U.S. Women’s Open, monitor par-4 play very closely. Lee and Ko conquered the par 4s at Upper Montclair Country Club en route to winning the past two years.

The greens at this course average 7,000 square feet in size. That’s large for this region, but the reality is, they play much smaller. Proximity to the hole limits stress on putting, and this is where the best will separate themselves. Putting has been the most valuable skill for contending, evidenced by those who finished in the top 10 in the past couple of years really excelling on the greens. Angel Yin, Madelene Sagstrom and Ko have been fantastic with their putters and lead this field in those metrics, meaning they should have a decided advantage at the Cognizant Founders Cup.

Proximity to the hole helps considerably when playing this venue. Upper Montclair has three nines, and the Tour uses the South Course for the front nine and the West Course for the back nine.

If you have played Upper Montclair, then you know it will test a full complement of clubs in the bag. Ko, Albane Valenzuela and Megan Khang lead the Tour in strokes gained approach, and being able to knock it close on these unique greens is a huge advantage. Not to mention the course boasts 65 bunkers, 44 of which are deep, diabolical and sit greenside.

Scrambling and sand save capability will help a player capture the crown. The cutline average for two years is even par, telling us that players will surely make bogeys. The average winning score is 16-under in the two editions of the tournament to be held at Upper Montclair. To score, a player will need to save par when they miss greens and probably have to do so from the sand. The best at the top of the betting board who can save par with their short game are Korda, Patty Tavantanakit, Atthaya Thitikul and Celine Boutier.

Three weeks ago, we predicted Nelly to win her fifth in a row. Last week, and a little more impressive, Hannah Green was selected as the outright winner. The winner of the Cognizant Founders Cup should come from one of the names mentioned above.

Nasa Hataoka and Madalene Sagstrom seem like good choices to lean toward, but my official picks will be in my LPGA newsletter. Who will you choose? Two back-to-back weeks in New Jersey and then the U.S. Women’s Open. It’s time to get serious and what better event to stand out than the one that honors the LPGA’s Founders.

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele shot an 8-under 64 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LIV Tour’s Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club.

The 41-year-old Steele’s last PGA Tour victory came in 2017 when he won his second Safeway Open. He lost in a playoff to Australian Cameron Smith at the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Steele had a 36-hole total of 14-under 130. He had a streak of four birdies, a bogey and two birdies in the middle of his round.

Danny Lee was a stroke behind after a 67, followed by Carlos Ortiz (68) and Mito Pereira (67) in a tie for third.

First-round leader Jinichiro Kozuma shot 71 and was tied for ninth, four strokes behind Steele. The Japanese player had an eagle, three birdies and four bogeys.

Jon Rahm, who has yet to win since joining LIV in December, shot 69 and was tied for 15th, six strokes off the lead.

Steele predicted a 20-under total would be needed to win after Sunday’s final round.

“There’s good scores out there for sure,” he said. “If you’re in the fairway, then you can take on a lot of the pins.”

Smith shot 65 and was among those three behind in a four-way tie for fifth.

Enjoying the home crowd’s support, Smith said he was grateful for the lady his errant shot hit on the 17th hole. The shot rebounded kindly off the woman and Smith ended up with a birdie on the hole.

“I hit her in the back,” Smith said. “It probably wasn’t going to be in the trees, but it was going to be in the rough and a different lie, so it could have been a different outcome. But (I) made her proud and made a birdie there, and she helped me out — hopefully that eased the pain a little bit for her.”

A new friendship ensued.

“She was nice,” Smith said. “I went over there and I signed a ball, and she said ‘just give me a hug’, so I gave her a hug as well. She was sweet.”

There was also drama in another Australian’s round with Lucas Herbert’s caddie, Nick Pugh, hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the crowd while replacing the flagstick at the 12th hole.

Herbert had just holed a birdie putt to finish his round in the shotgun format and was celebrating with fans at the par-3, known as the ‘watering hole’ with its loud music and boisterous fans, when Pugh was hit in the back of the head.

Pugh initially sunk to his knees but made his way back to the clubhouse and was reportedly uninjured and in good spirits.

The LIV tour remains in the Asia region next week for the May 3-5 Singapore event at the Sentosa Golf Club. Then there’s a month-long break before resuming in Houston from June 7-9.

Mel Graham Course

Mel Graham Course

International World Tour Golf Links is the brainchild of designer and developer Melvin F. Graham, nephew of well-known evangelist Billy Graham. In 1978, he founded Graham Enterprises, which became a leading real estate and development firm in the Carolinas. As the chairman and CEO of the company, Graham has specialized in golf courses, residential communities and commercial development. World Tour Golf Links is proud to be called a Mel Graham course!

Mel Graham put eight years of planning into his dream course, studying all the courses around the world that inspired him and choosing the ones that would best fit into the surroundings of Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand.

Finally, in October 1999, Mel’s vision came to fruition with a world-class course and clubhouse that has become a destination golf Mecca for golfers who enjoy the “insider” experience of playing holes they would never otherwise get to play.
